2. Gender-
When looking through the results of my survey,
although I didn’t have a wide range of responses I still
found that there were more females answering the
survey than males. 58% of the people who answered
my survey were females and only 39% were males.
With this information being so clear as to who reads
music magazines more I will definitely focus more on
the female audience when making my magazine
however I will still keep it quite neutral because there
were still males interested but it will mainly be aimed
towards the female gender including sections that
would appeal to them more.
3. Age-
When looking through this question on my survey it
became very clear that the most popular age group
for people interested in magazines are 16-19 year
olds, there were 31 people ( 72%) of 16-19 year olds
that responded to my survey so due to there being a
significant difference between the amount of
teenagers to adults my magazine will be mainly
focused on the younger generation and will include
bands or features that would interest that age group
and will include music they will be aware of in order
to encourage them to buy my magazine.
4. Which genre is preferred-
When I was looking through my survey and came across
this question It was hard to see which of the three genres
was preferred, once I had analysed the graph I noticed
that there was only a small percentage between people
preferring indie music and pop music. Although there was
a small difference between them all I narrowed it down to
pop and indie being the most popular- indie being the
very most. Seeing as though there was such a little
difference between the three I will be focusing my
magazine mainly on indie music because that is the most
popular but I will also interpret rock and pop in the
magazine eat some point even if It is just a little section as
they were both quite popular, NME does this with the
three genres so I believe I will get most of my inspiration
from there.
5. Preferred colour scheme-
When I was looking at this question from my survey it is
extremely clear that NME has the preferred colour
scheme, there is a significant difference between the
two magazines so I will be mainly focusing on bold,
bright, eye catching colours just like NME did. Q didn’t
have such a big vote but I believe this is because NME is
the most known music magazine across the country and
mainly targets the audience of the same ages that I will
be focusing on.
6. Preferred layout
When analysing this question it was clear to see
that NME also had he preferred layout. NME and Q
have a very simple layout but it is extremely
obvious that NME was the popular choice, I will
mirror this layout and take some of the
conventions similar to NME and I will use similar
layout such as a set colour scheme throughout and
also I will use house colour just as NME did.
7. Price-
When observing the results for this question I noticed
that people had chosen that they would rather pay
£2-£3 for a magazine than £1-£2. This would be
because the cheaper magazines wouldn’t be as good
of a quality and I would like my magazine to be of a
good quality so that I can have good readership and
circulation for my magazine. If I was to have a bad
quality magazine I wouldn’t have as wide of an
audience because people wouldn’t buy a bad quality
magazine.
8. What would most encourage people to buy a
magazine-
When I was looking at this question I noticed that more
people would prefer to buy a magazine and receive a
free t-shirt than buy a magazine and gain a free CD. 26
people preferred to have a free T-shirt and this is
because t-shirts are generally more expensive than CDs
and they will be band merchandise mainly which would
make them even more expensive rather than getting
them for free when buying a magazine. I will use t-shirts
as freebies when I am making my magazine because
they were the most popular choice and if people are
choosing to buy my magazine for free t-shirts rather
than the less popular CDs it will get my magazine more
popular and a better circulation.
9. Most wanted artists to be featured-
When I was reading through the answers for this question on
my survey I noticed that there was a mixture of indie and pop
bands but also a couple of rock bands, I narrowed it down to
pop and indie bands as these were the most popular. Indie was
defiantly the most popular but when I make my magazine I will
combine the two as this will then attract a wider audience
extending the popularity of my magazine. My magazine will
have bigger features of indie bands because this was the most
popular choice.
10. How often they purchase a music magazine-
When analysing this question I straight away
noticed that more people buy magazines monthly
than they do weekly. This data shows me that I
should publish my magazine monthly so that I have
more people buying my magazine as it will be a
cheap magazine for a monthly published product
and also It will include a lot more because it will
have had the whole month to gather and prepare
the information whereas weekly magazines do not
include that much and they are not as interesting
as monthly magazine so I will defiantly be making
mine monthly.
11. What appeals to the audience when buying a music
magazine-
When reading through the answers for this question I noticed
that there were a very wide range of answers for what would
appeal to the audience when buying a music magazine. Most of
the answers were to do with the content and some were to do
with the visual part of the magazine e.g. colour scheme and
photos. When I make my magazine i will make sure that I
include most of these aspects as to make my magazine extra
appealing for a wider range of people. There were also a few
answers suggesting that there were freebies included in my
magazine which I will make sure there will be as then It will
encourage people to buy my magazine gaining my magazine
more popularity and circulation.
