2. Lighting
• The first part of the scene is dark and blurred but with a warm
orange glow signifying Sarah’s wish of seeing her daughters
birthday party. After the crash we are unsure what has actually
happened to her so this clip makes it out as though she is ok and is
making a wish on her birthday cake.
• The second part of the scene takes place in the hospital but it has
an eerie green tint on everything, it lets the audience to know there
is something not quite right in this scene. The colouring
• The third part of the scene is lit a lot more like naturally, this change
makes it clear that the last part was an hallucination.
3. Location
The first part of the scene takes place in a very dark setting presumably at
Sarah’s daughters birthday party. It is meant to be confusing as to where the
scene actually is because of the darkness and blurring
The second part of the scene takes place in the hospital after the crash but
within Sarah’s nightmare. The clip is very empty and makes Sarah look very
isolated, the darkness and isolation makes the clip terrifying for Sarah. She is
lost and confused in her own dream and this is demonstrated by the emptiness
of the hospital
The third part of the scene takes place in the real world hospital this is made
clear by the change in coloring and lighting. The hospital is very hot white
signifying the contrast between the darkness of Sarah's nightmare in the last clip
4. Costume and props
• In the first part of the scene, Sarah’s daughter is wearing a
white top signifying her innocence in this situation. Even
though we don’t know she's dead we know she’s suffered
from a crash that wasn’t her fault. The cake lets us know
this is Sarah’s daughter as they were discussing her party
before the crash. The candles on the cake give a warming
glow that cut through the darkness and make it feel
unsettling and happy at the same time.
• The second part of the scene, there is a heart rate monitor
flat lining and further confirming that something is not right
because we can obviously see Sarah is not dead. Sarah is in
her hospital robes which are white and contrast the
darkness to make her stand out and be vulnerable.
• In the third part of the scene,
