1. Who would be the audience for your media
product?
2. My magazine was targeted at D and E in the social
demographic who are students, generally people in
their teens and early twenties. I selected this group
as they are overall more involved in the Indie Rock
scene and are more likely to be interested in the
genre and the news that goes along with it. I came to
this conclusion after reading the letters pages of
magazines such as Kerrang! And NME, discovering
that the majority of letters where from below twenty-
five year olds. I also discovered this because of
personal experience at gigs of the bands mentioned
in these magazines, finding that over 80% of the
people in the crowd were below the age of twenty-
five.
3. Due to this choice in target group, the price must
be fairly affordable as student budget is low and
this can affect the overall purchase of the
magazine if it becomes overpriced. This is
important as if your product cannot reach its
target audience then it is likely to flunk and not
become much of a success. My magazine is
created for both genders of audience and this is
shown in the diversity of colours, allowing it to
be enjoyed by many different people, it is also
shown through other codes and conventions
such as register and tags.
