Textual Analysis Of The Martian
Last quarter I took a class called Psychology of Gender that I really enjoyed. The topics that we
discussed were all very interesting and had me wanting to go to every class for engaging
discussions. We were put into groups at the very beginning of the quarter. We had the same group
throughout the entire quarter, with these groups we lead class discussions and presented our final
presentations. The final assignment for this class was for each group to choose a film and watch it.
While watching the film we were to look and see if we could identify any particular discourses
about gender that the film, intentionally or unintentionally, displayed. We were tasked with looking
back at some of the ideas we had discussed in class, some of which ... Show more content on

As a psychological minded individual I have been given a great vocabulary both from the
Psychology of Gender class and many others to describe gender issues and power issues reflected in
the world. I had not however, written an assignment on gender and power issues in the world and in
the media before. Approaching this assignment with a sense of openness and excitement really
reflects how much of a difference it makes when you feel connected to the material you are learning
in a class. Since this assignment, not much has changed about me as a student. I find that if I am
engaged with the material of classes and with my classmates I will have a lot to discuss in class. My
Psychology of Gender class further proved to me that professors who are very open to different
ideas and veering off the planned topic promote the greatest learning and reflecting. I was able to
reflect about societal issues and norms more in the class than any other class before it because of the
great atmosphere that the professor

Textual Analysis Of Troy
Troy is clearly the protagonist. He's likable and complex. He's the type of character that feels like he
can attract talent, given his range of emotion and his deep, psychological need and inner struggle.
Troy's choices to find his biological family and give Gigi a ride move the story forward. Troy has a
solid external goal and he's driven by his inner, emotional need to find out about his biological
parents and connect. It's a solid goal and objective. The stakes are personal. Troy is well established
as being obsessive–compulsive. He has a fear of germs. The story really never fully addresses or
resolves this. There are several great scenes that highlight his behavior through action and great
visual storytelling, but there's no resolution. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clarify the backstory about Gigi (how she died, how baby was given up). Clarify more effectively
how the idea of doppelgangers and parallel worlds help Troy come to resolve his identity and family
issues. While the connection between the origin of the universe and the origin of Troy are well
linked, at the end one doesn't really understand how Troy meeting his "double" Yuseff really impacts
him or helps him solve his inner conflict or feeling or belonging. Reconsider the title – it doesn't do
justice for the script. Overall, a creative and imaginative script with a very unique voice, but at the
same time, it's ambitious and left up to interpretation. It's not always an easy script to follow or

Textual Analysis Of Due South
The Canadian television series Due South will be subjected to a textual analysis with the goal of
figuring out if this show represents Canada and Canadian aspects. Due South is a crime series
created by Paul Haggis and produced by Alliance Communications. The show follows the
adventures of an officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and his partner from the Chicago
Police Department. The show falls under the genre of both comedy and drama. The character
Benton Fraser (played by Paul Gross), who is the Canadian Mountie, embodies key characteristics
and stereotypes of a typical RCMP officer. The same can be said for Raymond Vecchio (played by
David Marciano) who evidently embodies common stereotypes associated with a Chicago police
officer.

Plagiarism: A Textual Analysis
The plagiarism tutorial taught me three things. The first thing that it taught me was APA format
requires the citing of paraphrased material to be different than the citing of directly quoted material
(Jackson, 2017). This is helpful to me because in my last class I was citing my paraphrased material
like it was directly quoted. The second and third thing it taught me was there is a better way to use
paraphrasing as a tool to avoid plagiarism and that there are six different types of plagiarism
(Jackson, 2017). In today's e–publishing environment it is becoming easier to discover plagiarism
(Ocholla & Ocholla, 2016). Two resources that I have found to be helpful in checking my work for
plagiarism are paperrater.com and smallseotools.com.

Stylistics In Textual Analysis
1. Introduction and Theoretical framework 1.1 stylistics Stylistics is the linguistic study of style in
language. There has been a long debate among scholars about the role and definition of stylistics
.Many scholars have tried to give their insights about the role of stylistics to the field of textual
analysis. Coyle ( 1993) states that the purpose of stylistics is to uncover the literary language used
by the author to formulate his message. stylistics then is concerned with revealing the aesthetic and
artistic aspects of a text. Simpson ( 2004) provides a similar understanding of stylistics. He asserts
that the role of the discipline is to explore the creativity in language usage . Simpson further ... Show

The analyst can also investigate the use of definite or indefinite articles, demonstratives such as this
or that, and examine the frequency in the usage of certain grammatical constructions ( comparative,

have been researchers that have done studies and articles written about how politicians use pronouns
in a strategic way to show power, solidarity or authority, for example if a speaker uses mostly the

Textual Analysis Of Casablanca
Welcome to Rick's: A Closer Look to the Introduction of Rick When the opening of the film
Casablanca (Michael Curtiz, 1942) first introduces Rick at "Rick's", many indications of his
character are shown. He is sophisticated, mysterious, and a hard thinker. These traits are shown by
his playing chess by himself and wearing very expensive, well–kept clothing. The "Rick
Introduction" scene in the film is able to give the audience an immediate perspective on who Rick
really is, within a matter of seconds. This scene plays a vital role in pointing out major
characteristics of Rick which are: mysterious, complicated, discriminating, and headstrong by just
looking at his costume, his acting, and props. When Rick is first introduced into the film, ... Show

We see an over the shoulder shot to indicate the conversation being held between Rick and the
German man. We then see a shot reverse shot, showing that both of these characters are engaged
with each other. When looking at the acting of Rick, his voice looks calm and his face looks at ease.
This suggests that people cannot get to him (get in his head, or persuade him). This scene has huge
importance since people can implicitly assume that Rick does not take sides, and only cares about
himself. By looking at the color of costumes between Rick and the German man indicates that Rick
is good based on his white tuxedo, and the other man is not (he is wearing black). The costume of
Rick plays a major role in determining he is a good character. A major part scene in particular
implicitly that his character is discriminating and headstrong. Maybe the most important part of this
scene suggests Rick has sympathy for the Allies. By him letting people with less money, and less
prominent into the bar, you can infer that he must feel something. Also by not letting a wealthy
German into the bar, and letting a criminal like Ugarte in, he must have some sort of negative
feelings to the Germans. After his encounter with the German man, Rick has a discussion with
Ugarte. When they are talking together, Rick appears to be extremely taller than Ugarte. This
technique known as forced perspective, makes Rick seem even more

Textual Analysis Of A Restaurant
What differs a good restaurant from a great one is whether or not the restaurant gives their
customers an enjoyable experience at their restaurant. The complete, enjoyable experience had at a
restaurant is defined by several factors. A restaurant that is worth the time, money, and calories has a
lively atmosphere that helps facilitate open and meaningful conversation, staff that is willing to go
the extra mile, and a menu of reasonably priced food that looks appealing and tastes even better. Part
of having a complete, enjoyable experience at a restaurant is determined by the atmosphere of the
restaurant. A good restaurant that helps provide the perfect experience has an open and airy
atmosphere that makes customers feel they can act like themselves and not be confined. Cafe
Cappuccino is not only a lively and open restaurant, but it also has a nature out youth and comfort.
Walking in for the first time, the first thing to catch my eye was the lights hanging from the ceiling
that resembles flowers. The walls were painted with shades of blue and brown and it was the colors
that reminded me of my room as a child. Due to that, the colors added a sense of comfort and

Textual Analysis: Perseus
Intro
On October 23, 2016, Crescent School held an exhibition called The Gallery of the Gods. Grade ten
Students created very interesting displays on various greek myths to inform people about Greek
Mythology. Each myth or episode entails a handout which has the outline for the myth, characters,
and significance. The handout is complemented and enhanced with a visual piece, allowing the
viewer to have a detailed and visualized experience of the story behind each myth or episode.
One of the displays that really stood out was called Perseus. This masterpiece was created by
Graham Armstrong and Zach Charendoff to represent the myth Perseus. This presentation was very

"I created my diorama with a foam core bottom and placed a moss texture which resembles grass on
top. The rest was decoration. The most challenging aspect was keeping the water in one spot and not
flowing everywhere," said Jackson Brajer.
Another display that really caught my attention was Sisyphus by Colin Davies and Nik Turnbull.
This display tells a story of how Sisyphus is continuously pushing a boulder up a mountain and once
he reaches the top he must repeat the process. This display was very attractive because of the texture
of the sand, the interactivity, and the lego. This display was a game where the patron must pull the
string up which is attached to Sisyphus. While this is happening the boulder must roll along with
Sisyphus. If the patron drops the boulder the game is over. Some elements that made this
masterpiece visually attractive are colour and interactivity. The use of colour in this display is very
impressive because it is all black so it looks really depressing just like what happens in the myth. It
was very intriguing with how interactive it was, the display was very interactive. It allowed the
viewer to change, explore and affect the experience. In the myth, Sisyphus a very smart king
enjoyed tricking lots of people. Including telling Asopus that Zeus had his daughter but didn't say
zeus was a god. Asopus then told Hades. Hades punished Sisyphus by making him do external hard
labour by rolling a rock up a hill which would then roll down, then he would have to do it again.
The meaning portrayed in this presentation is that people must respect their superiors or there will
be consequences. If Sisyphus didn't mess around with his superiors maybe he would not have been
punished so

Textual Evidence Analysis
Teaching students how to provide accurate evidence from parts of stories, such as chapters, dramas,
and poems when writing or speaking about a text, and to describe how each successive part builds
on earlier sections is significantly important, because it improves the student reading comprehension
skills, which is a prerequisite for becoming a great reader. Previously, I taught my student to identify
key elements in a story to help her find the main idea and to use context clues to determine meaning
of words. However, after the lesson, I noticed my student made a poor effort to refer back to the
story when writing or talking about the story to provide appropriate evidence. In this lesson, my
student will not only summarize the story, but my student will also go back to the chapters,
paragraph or stanzas to provide accurate evidence. By doing that, my student will successfully
completed the New York State common core standard, which is "Refer to parts of stories, dramas,

Frankenstein Textual Analysis
Recently we read the story Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. In the excerpt from Frankenstein the
reader might notice, through the stories first person view, that the monster is watching the villagers
to become normal like them. The monster learns how to use their tool and how they talk and he
observes how they act and he thinks about how they act and do things with each other. All of those
things have lead me to believe that he is trying to learn to live like them. In the story the monster is
always thinking about how the people act. He tries to figure out what they do with their lives. One
example is "I thought of that days occurrences of that day. What chiefly struck me was the gentle
manners of these people,". He has figured out that they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

villagers like or disliked. He is slowly learning how to act like the people. Throughout the story and
him watching and listening to the people he learns their language. The monster says that he learns
the way the way that the villagers communicate. He learns the words they use the most such as fire,

Textual Analysis Of Hamlet
Hamlet is one of Shakespeare's most popular plays to date. It follows the tragic story of the young
prince of Denmark and his quest for revenge. Although it is a great play, it is much too out–dated for
the modern generation to be interested in it and to see the greatness of it. The solution for this would
be to create a film that not only exhibits the central themes but also attracts the contemporary
teenage audience. To effectively gain their attention, the setting, characters and language would need
to be modified.
First of all, the setting of Hamlet takes place in Elizabethan times; however, the current teenage
audience would not find that setting relatable or interesting. The setting needs to fit with the
audience they are targeting and if it is a modern day audience then the setting should reflect that.
Furthermore, buildings such as castles are no longer common and the teenage audience would be

Times change and so do the words that people use so it will be hard for a modern day society to
understand the passages full of metaphors and allusions relating to Elizabethan times. Additionally,
watchers may find the film boring or complex if they do not understand what each character is
saying. Conversation is a key aspect in grasping the nature of certain characters and this cannot be
done if the watcher does not comprehend it. Additionally, allusions are abundant in Hamlet, but
these allusions are now centuries too old. Allusions need to be understood by the audience for the
most impact but the ones in Hamlet will not work. For example, "It out herods Herod" (3.2.14)
Herod was known to be a tyrant but that is not common knowledge for someone in this day and age.
Language is a major part in Hamlet to progress the story and characters but if the audience does not
comprehend it, it is more or less

Scott and Craig–lees (2010) organized an experiment that analyzed if product placement, inclusion
of branded products that appear through audio or visual means, influenced audience engagement
through levels of pleasure, arousal, and cognitive effort. The researchers focused on specific
variables that may influence the effects product placement has on their audience. For example,
engagement (attention), involvement( interest ), connectedness ( to the program), engrossment(

while viewing). However, the researchers are primarily focusing on engagement. They hypothesis

options for them to answer. For their engagement test, they utilized Mehrabian and Russell's

with brand recognition. The analysis indicates that when all levels of engagement are present, which

Textual Analysis Of Music
I find the process of thinking of something on a conceptual level and turning it into a conceivable
object really intriguing. It requires excellent communication not only with people but also within
one's self; I think this is also the hardest part making something new and different–– creating. It
requires finding an inspiration and then creating something that other people can understand and
relate to because they have either experienced what the art piece represents or because they have
thought of the same concept. I found it interesting how the four students interpreted the same piece
of music differently and how drastically different their representation of their concepts were. For
example, while one took a political stance, the other took a more philosophical view of good vs.
evil. I think this shows their personality and their thinking style and how they interact with the

Given Komugi's character design and overall purpose in the anime in addition to the mental and
language representations addressed previously, Komugi has many connotations placed upon her. Her
character continues to reinforce that unusual embodiments are inherently inferior (Garland–

not worth much of anything aside from her Gungi skills. However, Komugi is also a significant
source for intersectionality. Utilizing feminist theory, individuals can see that she is already depicted

With its powerful, heart–rendering, and emotive storyline, I believe that the animated film Shrek,

for example that love is for anyone. Sound, editing, and setting, are some of the filmic elements that

Textual Analysis Weekend
From the beginning to the end of the music video "Hmm for the Weekend" by Coldplay featuring
Beyoncé (2015), the audience is shown a multiple array of colours and authentic sounds, from
traditional bells, to Chris Martin's angelic voice. However, the video also portrays prolific visuals of
the Indian culture. On one hand, viewers suggest it over–generalizes the representation of an Indian
culture as it screens the false realties of race and ethics. On the other hand, there are those who
suggest it shows the appreciation of the culture. Through Jason Rodriquez's article "Color–Blind
Ideology & Culture Appropriation of Hip–Hop" (2006), this paper will explain how the music video
"Hmm for the Weekend" by Coldplay featuring Beyoncé uses culture ... Show more content on

According to Rodriquez, color–blind ideology is what leads to "the assertion of essential sameness
between racial and ethnic groups despite unequal social locations and distinctive histories" (165). In
this case, the targeted group is Coldplay since they are blinded by their political and social statuses
as artists while they use Indian culture to their advantage to maintain popularity in the music
industry. Rodriquez suggests that color–blind ideology is noticed when the dominant group is aware
of the social, political, and economic status of both groups and uses the attributes from the minority
group to an extensive level (657). The political and artistic goal of the video frames the use of the
Indian festival Holi. In addition, it captures the religious tradition and uses it as a prop. The video
essentially plays off a false ideology towards the ethnic view of India as it inoculates the dominant
picture of a "real" Indian culture. The idea of "sameness" creates the illusion of how one can act and
look as a "real" Indian if dressed in a certain way, or if one celebrates the same tradition. Analysing
the context of the video through color–blind ideology, it is important to view the social, economic
and political status between two different groups in order to realize how one group uses the other.
The myth of "sameness" is effective since it perpetuates the inequalities when one compares the
difference between two groups. Color–blind ideology is a form of racism since it creates a dominant
culture to admit to taking familiarities from another culture without the dominant culture truly
realizing the effect. For instance, Coldplay uses their advantage as a popular culture music group to
represent a variety of themes to their fans and supporters; however, the group fails to realize their
racial privilege and social status in

immediate, and it provoked an uncomfortable feeling of loss. We hadn't been friends, the Tomkeys

and watches TV so they must be normal is the mindset David had but after finally thinking about
what his mother told him about looking at his own self he was able to see that he was the one that

Textual Analysis Of Girl
Girl' Shifts Your Perspective in More Ways Than One
Girl provides a brief glimpse into the daily life of a homeless woman.
Almost every film you'll ever watch in your life will be shot with a similar aspect ratio, with the
frame being around twice as long as it is tall. With minor variances due to wide–screen or
cinemascope or a particularly bold director, the vast majority of films will use nearly the same
aspect ratio, and after seeing that setup in film after film year after year, it just feels comfortable
now. Our televisions are set designed for this aspect ratio. Out computer monitors. Our portable
gaming devices' screens. Even our phones are designed with this ratio in mind.. Which is what
makes the fact that Megan K. Fox's Girl employs the exact opposite aspect ratio, one where the
frame is twice as tall as it is wide, impossible to miss. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the film progresses, it becomes clear that this feeling is intentional, forcing the viewer feel what
the Girl, a homeless woman who feels trapped in her situation, is feeling. The aspect ratio, coupled
with the fact that the Girl is framed in the same way in nearly every shot throughout the film, creates
the feeling that no matter how far into the film the viewer is, or whatever setting the Girl is placed
into, she is ultimately in the same spot. The choice to use such a unique aspect ratio is incredibly
bold, but ultimately serves perfectly to create the feeling that the film aims to create in the

Textual Analysis Of Hate Speech
Discursive practices were evident in this article as ideologies were discussed (Schroder, 2012:115),
for example minority and majority groups were analysed according to the comments of hate speech
as people in Slovenia write hate speech towards editors or political groups that they don't agree with
and to influence political participation (Erjavec & Kovačič, 2012:917). This emphasises the fact that
with the use of discursive practices and discourse analysis one can gain insight about a particular
issue and construct opinions regarding the use of hate speech (Schroder, 2012:115). With the help of
critical discourse analysis the author was able to find the reasons and values behind hate speech.
This influences the argument stating that the reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is evident as four strategies regarding hate speech which came about from the critical discourse
analysis of the comments were analysed. The first strategy is known as the rearticulation of the
meaning of news items and so they change the meaning and refer to politics and nationality. The
second strategy is the rearticulation of domestic political topics, the third strategy is the
rearticulation of events and situations and the fourth strategy is the attack on certain celebrities'
opinions (Erjavec & Kovačič, 2012:907–908). This emphasises the effectiveness of the analysis of
text and how important it is to deeply analyse the posts and identify the meanings behind them.
These strategies influence the author's arguments stating that most of hate speech is directed towards
an opposite side and that all hate speech is based on political issues (Erjavec & Kovačič,

Textual Analysis : ' The Flies '
Milca C. Altamirano ENG 101 Jon LaGuardia 7 September 2016 Textual Analysis You awake with a
breeze twirling with the fragments of hair left on your scalp; a dance known only to friends of the
oncoming light. You open your eyes only to see the endless ocean in the sky. You do not see your
family, nor your friends. You demand your legs and arms to function, they do not. You beg them to
work the one time you need them to, and in defiance to the groan of your bones, you stand. You
begin to wonder if this is a dream, a nightmare. It's not real. I will see them when I wake up. They
are fine. It's not real. The earth rises and in its presence is the rubble of your home, your brother's
home, and your neighbor's home, scattered and utterly destroyed. With a horrible realization, you
start screaming for the arms of your children and wife to wrap around you once again. You can't hear
yourself scream. You can't hear anything except the deafening silence. You drop to our knees while
your eyes are drowned in a river of sorrow. Then, you feel the small hands of your children grasp
yours with surprising fierceness. Though your wife is nowhere to be seen in the mist of dust, you
have never been so relieved to bask in the mist of ruins and death. This is a devastating reality many
are facing in the Middle East every day, some more grim than others. It is through a writer's words,
written or oral, or a photographer's lens where we see our news, our history being captured. In this

Textual Analysis Of The King
Another film technique used to shape my reaction to Bertie is dialogue. Dialogue helps us
understand the character and sympathise with the battle he has to overcome. The battle of becoming
king and even worse with a stammer made it hard for Bertie to take on the leadership role and speak
for the nation. ''My husbands work involves a great deal of public speaking'' is quoted by Elizabeth,
Bertie's wife. This shows that Bertie had to be a confident at speaking in front of large audience as it
was his role to speak for the nation. Bertie doubts himself of being an unsuccessful leader and
because he doesn't accept the duty of being a king this showed weakness. As Bertie became king he
was ill prepared to take on the role as he had only ever been a naval ... Show more content on

Bertie's stammer problem also contributes to the act of him not believing in himself because he
quotes ''I cant even give them a christmas speech''. Bertie's stammer has affected his role of king as
it requires him to speak to and for the nation. ''Is the nation ready for two minutes of radio silence''?
From Bertie's dialogue i believed that he didn't want to be the king and with his stammer this made
it an even greater obstacle that he has to overcome in order to be ''the leader''.
In the opening Scene of the film a series of camera angles including close ups a low shot and a pov
shot show a large grey microphone shaped like a bullet making it intimidating. Emphasis has been
put on the microphone through the use of camera angles to portray the idea that it is berties nemesis
it is a symbol of what Bertie will have to face and overcome. The threatening way the microphone is
portrayed through camera shots makes the viewers aware that the Bertie is not confident at speaking
and with a stutter this makes it more noticeable. This discourages him from truly finding his voice

Friends, Makes Life Better
Before the 1994 television season started, networks were declaring that the upcoming fall season
was going to be the "Year of the Family". Many creative powers were aiming to capitalize on the
familiar formula of relative–based series with shows like: Family Matters, All–American Girl, Me
and The Boys, Full House and Party of Five. On September 22, 1994 David Crane and Marta
Kuffman created a new sitcom by the name of Friends and it featured an unconventional family of
friends. The characters, Chandler Bing, Joey Tribbiani, Monica Geller, Ross Geller, Phoebe Buffay,
and Rachel Green lived off and with one another in Manhattan, New York. Over the course ... Show

Unlike most of the other television shows that were broadcast in that era, the show did not revolve
around having a dependable family unit to fall back on. The show featured a new format; one that
was driven by six unmarried characters in their twenty's going through the highs and lows of life and
making the most of life in the process. This simple format was quickly embraced by generation X'
who were also trying to figure out their young lives and plot out their future. Other sitcoms of the
day were popular because they had a central authority figure or had characters that were beginning
to start their own families. Aside from romantic relationships, Friends did not have a central plot or
real character development. The 6 friends did not subscribe to having a job that defined them or
their life. Their definition of success was having good friends, enjoying the moment, having fun, and
just hanging out with one another. The primary message of the show was that friends would always

Studies In Paul's Letter To Philippians Summary
The letter to the Philippians has been the subject of historical criticism in relation to its
contemporary authors and philosophers. In Studies in Paul's Letter to the Philippians , Hans Dieter
Betz scrutinizes five segments from the letter to the Philippians to examine scholastic interpretations
and to suggest a new interpretation regarding its literary genre as preparation for
death(praemeditatio mortis).
Hans Dieter Betz is a German–American scholar of the New Testament and Early Christianity. He
was born and raised in Germany, and he earned his Doctor of Theology at Mainz in 1957 under Dr.
Herbert Braun. He served as editor of the lexica "Religion in Geschichte und Gegenwart" (4th ed.

He differs his book from commentaries in purpose, nature and content, stating that his purpose of
study is for "further investigations regarding specific passaged or problems yet unresolved or even
undiscovered"(p1). For reading Philippians, Betz critically engages in the previous literary
commentaries and employs textual and literary criticism. Especially he critically engages to
Lohmeyer's criticism on Philippians, affirming that Lohmeyer's interpretation on the Philippians
which reads the epistle as deutero–Pauline and from the second–century era. However Betz
criticizes Lohmeyer's interpretation of Philippians as the polemic of Martyrs. He points out that
regardless of vivid and impressive ideas about Martyrdom in the letter(p. 17), connecting his
personal affliction to Philippian martyrdom is too subjective to validate. Betz clearly demonstrates
the difficulty of accessing to the original manuscripts of the text(Volagen) through textual criticism
and literary criticism due to the additional redactions. By representing the uncertainty of the original
text, he emphasizes the variance of the text manuscripts and highlights the importance of textual
criticism and comparative studies to read

Towards a better and cleaner textile industry [Textual Analysis] Written Assignment 4 This
assignment is through an analysis of appeal forms, speech acts, move structures, text functions, text
types and relevant rhetorical strategies going to determine the genre and purpose of the text
'Towards a better and cleaner textile industry', which was posted on Novozymes website on March
30, 2011. Appeal Forms The text consists of a number of logical arguments that promote the use of
enzymes in the textile industry, which means the dominating appeal form is logos. This is supported
by the use of numbers (l. 1–3), scientific terms as polycarboxylates, enzymes and molecule and the
reference to the special trial method; LCA (l. 18–23). This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

17–38) and at last the peroration (l. 40–45). This is supported by the common known subject i.e. that
Novozymes produces enzymes and the use of both logos and ethos appeal. In addition, the move
structure more specifically follows the news–report move structure as it uses the inverted pyramid,
where the most important information is in the beginning. The moves are: Event (l. 1–3), then
interpretation (l.4–8) followed by background (l. 10–15), details of the event (l. 17–23), background
(25–42) and at last comments from people involved (l. 42–43). As the text comes from Novozymes,
it would though be characterized as a press release which often bears resemblance to the news–
report move structure. Though as mentioned in the paragraph about appeal forms, the use of ethos
indicates that the text is not only made for an informative purpose. Text Functions At first sight, the
function of the text is the informative text function, as it seeks to express something about the
referent. This is supported by the dominant use of logos appeal, representative speech acts and the
move structure being press release. Though, as the commissive speech act and indirect directive
speech acts are also present, there is evidence that the text also has an indirect directive text function
as it tries to affect the receiver to use enzymes. In combination with the use of ethos, this indicates
that the text has a character of argumentation. Text Types As stated above

Each of the stimuli I selected was due to something in the image or video that drew my attention.
The first image referenced as "Sunset" attracted my focus due to the color and the dark contrast of
the boy and tree standing out against the background. The advertisement deemed "Human" caught
my attention because of the complexity of the picture. There are so many components to the picture
interacting with each other. The bodies and the actual text overlap constantly causing me to attend to
it longer. Unlike "Sunset" the color in "Human" is very subdued, but the orientation of the different
bodies makes it interesting. The "Mountain Dew" commercial aired during the Super Bowl this year,

For a computer, the lack of distinct borders would also make it hard to distinguish one structure or
object from the other.
This picture is actually a great example of multiple Gestalt principles. The cars moving from right to
left demonstrate the principle common fate. They can quickly be determined as cars driving on the
road. Even thought the actual road isn't completely visible from this angle, due to the cars obvious
movement it is easy for the observer's brain to assume a road is there.
Proximity is also used to process what is going on in this picture. The sign at the forefront of this
picture reading "EPCC" can be understood using proximity. The letters are all very close together
and are placed in front of a solid green background. This suggests that those letters all actually
belong to one sign and one word.
The lines of cars that are occasionally obstructed from the observer's view by other objects are
visually understood using continuation. Even though the cars are cut into portions, as observers we

The article primarily appeals to individuals with interest in global warming. The main point that
Wood focuses on is the idea of sulfur–aerosol injection, in which sulfur dioxide would be pumped
into the sky. However, there are several issues with this concept that he addresses in his article.
The first issue that is addressed is the possibility of acid rain and severe climate shifts.
Geophysicists argue that while the idea would work, catastrophic failures would incur if the sulfur
dioxide were ever to stop pumping into the atmosphere. Wood lists several downfalls of this system,
almost in an intimidating manner. He makes the downfalls seem horrendous to the benefits.
However, Wood also completely disregards the other alternative ideas for solving global warming.
From painted skies to carbon–eating trees, the only concept discussed in depth is the sulfur dioxide
idea. This raises concerns as the idea he appears to support the most also happens to be the idea that
he discusses the atrocious downfalls of.
What is interesting about this paper is the author's purpose. It seems as though he is attempting to
raise awareness and support geophysics. However, all the points he brings up to discuss he quickly
refutes with dangers. This confuses the reader as the article is more intimidating rather than
informational. The overwhelming sense of danger associated with each

Teotihuacan Textual Analysis
Often when studying history we encounter a paradigm of thinking that explicitly emphasizes the
importance of written history above all else. In art history however, we are struck with the issue of
navigating this paradigm in a field of study that sometimes only has visual culture for us to
reference. Because of this, it often becomes a challenge to incorporate this visual evidence with a
written record, whether it be another culture's record or a written record that isn't inherently
"written". And when it comes to examining the visual culture of Post–Classic Mexico, both of these
are the case. With Mixtec and Aztec codices made entirely of pictographs and glyphs, we are forced
to consider colonial hybrid documents in addition to these glyphs ... Show more content on

One of the most prominent examples of this is the debate surrounding the Great Goddess of
Teotihuacan which can be seen in Figure 2. With a lack of textual evidence to help understand this
deity's gender or potential role in Teotihuacan culture, we as historians are forced to make
assumptions often relying "on modern, Western stereotypes of femininity and masculinity"
(Mandell, 29). As seen in Elisa C. Mandell's article "A New Analysis of the Gender Attribution of
the "Great Goddess" of Teotihuacan" from Ancient Mesoamerica, the depiction of the Great
Goddess is complicated due to a lack of obvious primary or secondary sexual organs (Mandell, 30).
Because of this, analysis of the deity's gender must be based upon more subjective elements such as
clothing and ceremonial dress. However, unlike the Aztec, we have no textual evidence like codices
or colonial hybrid documents to designate gendered clothing or depictions in Teotihuacan culture.
We cannot even assume the deity's gender from Post–classic text as it can easily be misinterpreted
like the initial theory that the Great Goddess represents the rain god Tlaloc. Whereas in the post–
classic period we can look at at statue of Coatlicue and connect her skirt of snakes to the textual
depiction of her image, we have no basis of comparison to identify or gender the Great Goddess.
And while Mendell's argument for the female gender of the Great Goddess remains sound, she is
forced to draw from a variety of complex representations of Teotihuacan art and iconography such
as sculpture, bowls, and murals that lack a direct translation and association which inherently leaves
room

The chapter '1968' contributes to a reading of Maestro focusing on the both the role music plays in
the Paul's development and the very nature of music itself. In this chapter, Paul undergoes emotional
and physical maturation, and his appreciation and comprehension of music is strongly tied with this
change. It in this chapter that he meets Rosie, his first love and future wife. Rosie represents Paul's
first experience of the adult world. She acts as a kind of conduit for his maturation. When teaching
her, he employs Keller's idiosyncratic techniques, which he had previously dismissed as juvenile and

After losing his virginity, Paul gains a greater understanding of emotion: "Each day my eyes seemed
to be opened just a little wider and more of that sun–drenched town of lush gardens, scents, and

scene. Sexuality is personified and described as a force acting upon Paul, changing him. Paul relates
these new emotions to music: "I was transported again to that same sensual, aching zone. The music
seemed nearer to lovemaking than to music ... and now I knew about lovemaking." Again, sensual
language is used to convey a strong sense of feeling. Following this, Paul seeks music full of
emotion and power, from Romantic composers Liszt and Rachmaninoff, as an output for these
feelings, ignoring Keller's regiment of rigid Classical music. In this instance, music plays a key role
in Paul's emotional

Textual Analysis Of Rhetoric
The word "rhetoric" has multiple origins, but it's mainly from French and Latin. The definition of
the word is meant to use to persuade or influence others. This was the study of principles and rules

Rhetoric is normally advertised we see on social media or T.V. aiming to try to persuade us to buy

Textual Analysis Of Socrates
Socrates is remembered for drastically altering philosophical ideology by implementing personal,
existential thought into Greek society. Actually, Socrates was nicknamed the Athenian Gadfly,
because he felt that the gods must have put him in front of the Athenian people so that the citizens
wouldn't lack spiritually, and felt like he was a gadfly annoying a horse. Before Socrates, philosophy
consisted more of 'what is out–of–one's control' such as skepticism about the universe and its nature.
Socrates flipped the script from external, tangible ideology to internal thought and how it effects the
human collective, hence procreating the concept of Ethics. He pioneered morality as a science.

Because of Socrates we know that it is a positive thing to think deeper, search harder, and accept
what we can't understand or control. Yet, the analysis of Socrates' thought is handicapped by the
infamous "problem of socrates": he didn't document or write anything. However, others, such as
Plato and Xenophon, did document the dirty life and times of Mr. Socrates. The debate, supposedly,
is how fabricated the stories truly are. Much like the story of Jesus Christ, there isn't nothing written
by him or even till late in his life, or perhaps after, so it is hard for one to accept Socrates' ideas as an
absolute truth. Socrates believes that knowledge is one of the most paramount ways in which a man
can 'succeed.' True knowledge is something one understands to be true because of having lived it out
for one's self. Every scenario that a person lives through only makes that person more
understanding. Wiser, if you will. People are flawed. However, if they learn from the negative
situation, the situation is no longer negative. On the contrary, the situation actually becomes even
more positive then it once was negative. This theory relates to all people and

The Disney movie Pocahontas was released in 1995 and was directed by Mike Gabriel and Eric
Goldberg. The film depicts the life of a young Native American woman known as Pocahontas and
the hardships she comes to face as she develops a relationship with an English settler whose original
plan was to take stronghold of their land. Pocahontas utilizes the dramatic progression of exposition,
complication/rising, action and resolution. In addition, the film is organized in a series of cuts and
angles to develop an aesthetically pleasing movie.
Pocahontas introduces crucial background information such as the different settings, characters, etc.
This is primarily done through the use of dialogue. An example of this would be the lyrics of the

For this scene, the directors utilized a panoramic style camera angle, where the camera rotates
horizontally across Virginia. The use of a panorama displays the vastness of the undiscovered and
untainted land before the invasion of the English settlers. In addition, panning creates a smooth
transition between the different cuts in the movie. It creates a match cut, where two similar shots are
joined together, making the transition hidden from the viewers.
In addition, the directors also include an aerial view camera angle in this scene, which gives the
impression of a bird flying above the vast landscape. In contrast to the panorama, this camera angle
provides a greater distance between the land and the camera while the panorama was much closer.
Instead of seeing just the crops and the trunks of the trees, the aerial perspective allows the viewer to

objects. Though they are different in size, it's clear they serve that same idea. Both items are also
shaped in sort of a rounded and spherical way; the edges are smoothed out and they all have a nice

Though the vases themselves aren't geometric in shape, the design in the painting creates a bunch of

The black strokes seem to represent different size branches as those found on a tree or a plant of
some sort. Another noticeable difference is that the modern vases are European, one being from
Sweden and the other from Italy. The ancient jars, as previously stated, are Egyptian. The sizes seem
to differ between the modern and ancient containers as well. The modern vases appear taller and
leaner compared to the shorter and more rotund jars. This may be because the jars did not have to be
very tall in order to hold the organs; they were able to serve their purpose at a smaller height and a
wider circumference. The tall and slender shapes of the vases were probably just a design or style
choice the designer made to achieve his vision. The materials used to create the pieces are worth
noting as well. The vases were probably glass blown and then hand painted while I couldn't really
tell for sure what the jars were made of but it appeared to be some sort of stone or clay. Either way,
the Egyptians used organic and natural materials found in their environment and carved and chiseled

president condemned NFL players peacefully protesting with more fervor than those the words, and
the actions of Neo Natzi's and White Supremacists". Smith said it wasn't about politics, but one man
(Donald Trump) as to why some African American players knelt for the playing of the National
Anthem. The words of Smith were powerful, and intelligent to the common viewer. Smith spoke for

Textual Analysis: Misconceptions
Oftentimes it is difficult to discern the errors within your own work due to misconceptions or flaws
in thinking. Within my Textual Analysis paper the main difficulty was a difference between the
definition of rhetorical analysis from previous learning. In an attempt to fix it I tried to add some
clarity to the meaning behind the points I made because they were unclear and not fully developed.
The content I added to my paper was further analysis of the previous content in the paper because
the summarization of the story was good but the explanation behind my points were lacking. For my
first paragraph I added three sentences to the end of the paragraph to clarify what I was discussing
with the excerpts that I was referencing. To relate to

Textual Analysis Of The Martian

  • 1. Textual Analysis Of The Martian Last quarter I took a class called Psychology of Gender that I really enjoyed. The topics that we discussed were all very interesting and had me wanting to go to every class for engaging discussions. We were put into groups at the very beginning of the quarter. We had the same group throughout the entire quarter, with these groups we lead class discussions and presented our final presentations. The final assignment for this class was for each group to choose a film and watch it. While watching the film we were to look and see if we could identify any particular discourses about gender that the film, intentionally or unintentionally, displayed. We were tasked with looking back at some of the ideas we had discussed in class, some of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a psychological minded individual I have been given a great vocabulary both from the Psychology of Gender class and many others to describe gender issues and power issues reflected in the world. I had not however, written an assignment on gender and power issues in the world and in the media before. Approaching this assignment with a sense of openness and excitement really reflects how much of a difference it makes when you feel connected to the material you are learning in a class. Since this assignment, not much has changed about me as a student. I find that if I am engaged with the material of classes and with my classmates I will have a lot to discuss in class. My Psychology of Gender class further proved to me that professors who are very open to different ideas and veering off the planned topic promote the greatest learning and reflecting. I was able to reflect about societal issues and norms more in the class than any other class before it because of the great atmosphere that the professor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Textual Analysis Of Troy Troy is clearly the protagonist. He's likable and complex. He's the type of character that feels like he can attract talent, given his range of emotion and his deep, psychological need and inner struggle. Troy's choices to find his biological family and give Gigi a ride move the story forward. Troy has a solid external goal and he's driven by his inner, emotional need to find out about his biological parents and connect. It's a solid goal and objective. The stakes are personal. Troy is well established as being obsessive–compulsive. He has a fear of germs. The story really never fully addresses or resolves this. There are several great scenes that highlight his behavior through action and great visual storytelling, but there's no resolution. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clarify the backstory about Gigi (how she died, how baby was given up). Clarify more effectively how the idea of doppelgangers and parallel worlds help Troy come to resolve his identity and family issues. While the connection between the origin of the universe and the origin of Troy are well linked, at the end one doesn't really understand how Troy meeting his "double" Yuseff really impacts him or helps him solve his inner conflict or feeling or belonging. Reconsider the title – it doesn't do justice for the script. Overall, a creative and imaginative script with a very unique voice, but at the same time, it's ambitious and left up to interpretation. It's not always an easy script to follow or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Textual Analysis Of Due South The Canadian television series Due South will be subjected to a textual analysis with the goal of figuring out if this show represents Canada and Canadian aspects. Due South is a crime series created by Paul Haggis and produced by Alliance Communications. The show follows the adventures of an officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and his partner from the Chicago Police Department. The show falls under the genre of both comedy and drama. The character Benton Fraser (played by Paul Gross), who is the Canadian Mountie, embodies key characteristics and stereotypes of a typical RCMP officer. The same can be said for Raymond Vecchio (played by David Marciano) who evidently embodies common stereotypes associated with a Chicago police officer. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Plagiarism: A Textual Analysis The plagiarism tutorial taught me three things. The first thing that it taught me was APA format requires the citing of paraphrased material to be different than the citing of directly quoted material (Jackson, 2017). This is helpful to me because in my last class I was citing my paraphrased material like it was directly quoted. The second and third thing it taught me was there is a better way to use paraphrasing as a tool to avoid plagiarism and that there are six different types of plagiarism (Jackson, 2017). In today's e–publishing environment it is becoming easier to discover plagiarism (Ocholla & Ocholla, 2016). Two resources that I have found to be helpful in checking my work for plagiarism are paperrater.com and smallseotools.com. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Stylistics In Textual Analysis 1. Introduction and Theoretical framework 1.1 stylistics Stylistics is the linguistic study of style in language. There has been a long debate among scholars about the role and definition of stylistics .Many scholars have tried to give their insights about the role of stylistics to the field of textual analysis. Coyle ( 1993) states that the purpose of stylistics is to uncover the literary language used by the author to formulate his message. stylistics then is concerned with revealing the aesthetic and artistic aspects of a text. Simpson ( 2004) provides a similar understanding of stylistics. He asserts that the role of the discipline is to explore the creativity in language usage . Simpson further ... The analyst can also investigate the use of definite or indefinite articles, demonstratives such as this or that, and examine the frequency in the usage of certain grammatical constructions ( comparative, superlative,.....). The researcher can examine the use of pronouns in the selected speeches. There have been researchers that have done studies and articles written about how politicians use pronouns in a strategic way to show power, solidarity or authority, for example if a speaker uses mostly the pronoun we, this will indicate his attempt to create a sense of unity with his audience. 1.2.3 Figures of speech Martha J. Kolln (1999) defines figurative language as the language that expresses meaning in nonliteral terms , characterized by figures of speech such as metaphors , similes , analogies and personification . • 11. Textual Analysis Of Casablanca Welcome to Rick's: A Closer Look to the Introduction of Rick When the opening of the film Casablanca (Michael Curtiz, 1942) first introduces Rick at "Rick's", many indications of his character are shown. He is sophisticated, mysterious, and a hard thinker. These traits are shown by his playing chess by himself and wearing very expensive, well–kept clothing. The "Rick Introduction" scene in the film is able to give the audience an immediate perspective on who Rick really is, within a matter of seconds. This scene plays a vital role in pointing out major characteristics of Rick which are: mysterious, complicated, discriminating, and headstrong by just looking at his costume, his acting, and props. When Rick is first introduced into the film, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We see an over the shoulder shot to indicate the conversation being held between Rick and the German man. We then see a shot reverse shot, showing that both of these characters are engaged with each other. When looking at the acting of Rick, his voice looks calm and his face looks at ease. This suggests that people cannot get to him (get in his head, or persuade him). This scene has huge importance since people can implicitly assume that Rick does not take sides, and only cares about himself. By looking at the color of costumes between Rick and the German man indicates that Rick is good based on his white tuxedo, and the other man is not (he is wearing black). The costume of Rick plays a major role in determining he is a good character. A major part scene in particular implicitly that his character is discriminating and headstrong. Maybe the most important part of this scene suggests Rick has sympathy for the Allies. By him letting people with less money, and less prominent into the bar, you can infer that he must feel something. Also by not letting a wealthy German into the bar, and letting a criminal like Ugarte in, he must have some sort of negative feelings to the Germans. After his encounter with the German man, Rick has a discussion with Ugarte. When they are talking together, Rick appears to be extremely taller than Ugarte. This technique known as forced perspective, makes Rick seem even more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The complete, enjoyable experience had at a restaurant is defined by several factors. A restaurant that is worth the time, money, and calories has a lively atmosphere that helps facilitate open and meaningful conversation, staff that is willing to go the extra mile, and a menu of reasonably priced food that looks appealing and tastes even better. Part of having a complete, enjoyable experience at a restaurant is determined by the atmosphere of the restaurant. A good restaurant that helps provide the perfect experience has an open and airy atmosphere that makes customers feel they can act like themselves and not be confined. Cafe Cappuccino is not only a lively and open restaurant, but it also has a nature out youth and comfort. Walking in for the first time, the first thing to catch my eye was the lights hanging from the ceiling that resembles flowers. The walls were painted with shades of blue and brown and it was the colors that reminded me of my room as a child. Due to that, the colors added a sense of comfort and youthfulness to the atmosphere of the restaurant. Grade ten Students created very interesting displays on various greek myths to inform people about Greek Mythology. Each myth or episode entails a handout which has the outline for the myth, characters, and significance. The handout is complemented and enhanced with a visual piece, allowing the viewer to have a detailed and visualized experience of the story behind each myth or episode. "I created my diorama with a foam core bottom and placed a moss texture which resembles grass on top. The rest was decoration. Another display that really caught my attention was Sisyphus by Colin Davies and Nik Turnbull. This display tells a story of how Sisyphus is continuously pushing a boulder up a mountain and once he reaches the top he must repeat the process. This display was very attractive because of the texture of the sand, the interactivity, and the lego. This display was a game where the patron must pull the string up which is attached to Sisyphus. While this is happening the boulder must roll along with Sisyphus. If the patron drops the boulder the game is over. Some elements that made this masterpiece visually attractive are colour and interactivity. The use of colour in this display is very impressive because it is all black so it looks really depressing just like what happens in the myth. It was very intriguing with how interactive it was, the display was very interactive. It allowed the viewer to change, explore and affect the experience. In the myth, Sisyphus a very smart king enjoyed tricking lots of people. Including telling Asopus that Zeus had his daughter but didn't say zeus was a god. Asopus then told Hades. Hades punished Sisyphus by making him do external hard labour by rolling a rock up a hill which would then roll down, then he would have to do it again. The meaning portrayed in this presentation is that people must respect their superiors or there will be consequences. Textual Evidence Analysis Teaching students how to provide accurate evidence from parts of stories, such as chapters, dramas, and poems when writing or speaking about a text, and to describe how each successive part builds on earlier sections is significantly important, because it improves the student reading comprehension skills, which is a prerequisite for becoming a great reader. Previously, I taught my student to identify key elements in a story to help her find the main idea and to use context clues to determine meaning of words. However, after the lesson, I noticed my student made a poor effort to refer back to the story when writing or talking about the story to provide appropriate evidence. In this lesson, my student will not only summarize the story, but my student will also go back to the chapters, paragraph or stanzas to provide accurate evidence. In the excerpt from Frankenstein the reader might notice, through the stories first person view, that the monster is watching the villagers to become normal like them. • 21. Textual Analysis Of Hamlet Hamlet is one of Shakespeare's most popular plays to date. It follows the tragic story of the young prince of Denmark and his quest for revenge. Although it is a great play, it is much too out–dated for the modern generation to be interested in it and to see the greatness of it. The solution for this would be to create a film that not only exhibits the central themes but also attracts the contemporary teenage audience. To effectively gain their attention, the setting, characters and language would need to be modified. First of all, the setting of Hamlet takes place in Elizabethan times; however, the current teenage audience would not find that setting relatable or interesting. The setting needs to fit with the audience they are targeting and if it is a modern day audience then the setting should reflect that. However, the video also portrays prolific visuals of the Indian culture. On one hand, viewers suggest it over–generalizes the representation of an Indian culture as it screens the false realties of race and ethics. On the other hand, there are those who suggest it shows the appreciation of the culture. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Rodriquez, color–blind ideology is what leads to "the assertion of essential sameness between racial and ethnic groups despite unequal social locations and distinctive histories" (165). In this case, the targeted group is Coldplay since they are blinded by their political and social statuses as artists while they use Indian culture to their advantage to maintain popularity in the music industry. Rodriquez suggests that color–blind ideology is noticed when the dominant group is aware of the social, political, and economic status of both groups and uses the attributes from the minority group to an extensive level (657). The political and artistic goal of the video frames the use of the Indian festival Holi. In addition, it captures the religious tradition and uses it as a prop. The video essentially plays off a false ideology towards the ethnic view of India as it inoculates the dominant picture of a "real" Indian culture. The idea of "sameness" creates the illusion of how one can act and look as a "real" Indian if dressed in a certain way, or if one celebrates the same tradition. Analysing the context of the video through color–blind ideology, it is important to view the social, economic and political status between two different groups in order to realize how one group uses the other. The myth of "sameness" is effective since it perpetuates the inequalities when one compares the difference between two groups. Color–blind ideology is a form of racism since it creates a dominant culture to admit to taking familiarities from another culture without the dominant culture truly realizing the effect. For instance, Coldplay uses their advantage as a popular culture music group to represent a variety of themes to their fans and supporters; however, the group fails to realize their racial privilege and social status in ... • 51. Studies In Paul's Letter To Philippians Summary The letter to the Philippians has been the subject of historical criticism in relation to its contemporary authors and philosophers. In Studies in Paul's Letter to the Philippians , Hans Dieter Betz scrutinizes five segments from the letter to the Philippians to examine scholastic interpretations and to suggest a new interpretation regarding its literary genre as preparation for death(praemeditatio mortis). Hans Dieter Betz is a German–American scholar of the New Testament and Early Christianity. He was born and raised in Germany, and he earned his Doctor of Theology at Mainz in 1957 under Dr. Herbert Braun. He served as editor of the lexica "Religion in Geschichte und Gegenwart" (4th ed. 1998–2005) and "Religion Past and Present" (2007–2014). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He differs his book from commentaries in purpose, nature and content, stating that his purpose of study is for "further investigations regarding specific passaged or problems yet unresolved or even undiscovered"(p1). For reading Philippians, Betz critically engages in the previous literary commentaries and employs textual and literary criticism. Especially he critically engages to Lohmeyer's criticism on Philippians, affirming that Lohmeyer's interpretation on the Philippians which reads the epistle as deutero–Pauline and from the second–century era. However Betz criticizes Lohmeyer's interpretation of Philippians as the polemic of Martyrs. He points out that regardless of vivid and impressive ideas about Martyrdom in the letter(p. 17), connecting his personal affliction to Philippian martyrdom is too subjective to validate. Betz clearly demonstrates the difficulty of accessing to the original manuscripts of the text(Volagen) through textual criticism and literary criticism due to the additional redactions. By representing the uncertainty of the original text, he emphasizes the variance of the text manuscripts and highlights the importance of textual criticism and comparative studies to read ... Textual Analysis Towards a better and cleaner textile industry [Textual Analysis] Written Assignment 4 This assignment is through an analysis of appeal forms, speech acts, move structures, text functions, text types and relevant rhetorical strategies going to determine the genre and purpose of the text 'Towards a better and cleaner textile industry', which was posted on Novozymes website on March 30, 2011. Appeal Forms The text consists of a number of logical arguments that promote the use of enzymes in the textile industry, which means the dominating appeal form is logos. This is supported by the use of numbers (l. 1–3), scientific terms as polycarboxylates, enzymes and molecule and the reference to the special trial method; LCA (l. 18–23). This ... This is supported by the common known subject i.e. that Novozymes produces enzymes and the use of both logos and ethos appeal. In addition, the move structure more specifically follows the news–report move structure as it uses the inverted pyramid, where the most important information is in the beginning. The moves are: Event (l. 1–3), then interpretation (l.4–8) followed by background (l. 10–15), details of the event (l. 17–23), background (25–42) and at last comments from people involved (l. 42–43). As the text comes from Novozymes, it would though be characterized as a press release which often bears resemblance to the news– report move structure. Though as mentioned in the paragraph about appeal forms, the use of ethos indicates that the text is not only made for an informative purpose. Text Functions At first sight, the function of the text is the informative text function, as it seeks to express something about the referent. This is supported by the dominant use of logos appeal, representative speech acts and the move structure being press release. Though, as the commissive speech act and indirect directive speech acts are also present, there is evidence that the text also has an indirect directive text function as it tries to affect the receiver to use enzymes. In combination with the use of ethos, this indicates that the text has a character of argumentation. Text Types As stated above ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first image referenced as "Sunset" attracted my focus due to the color and the dark contrast of the boy and tree standing out against the background. The advertisement deemed "Human" caught my attention because of the complexity of the picture. There are so many components to the picture interacting with each other. The bodies and the actual text overlap constantly causing me to attend to it longer. Unlike "Sunset" the color in "Human" is very subdued, but the orientation of the different bodies makes it interesting. For a computer, the lack of distinct borders would also make it hard to distinguish one structure or object from the other. This picture is actually a great example of multiple Gestalt principles. Even thought the actual road isn't completely visible from this angle, due to the cars obvious movement it is easy for the observer's brain to assume a road is there. Proximity is also used to process what is going on in this picture. The sign at the forefront of this picture reading "EPCC" can be understood using proximity. The letters are all very close together and are placed in front of a solid green background. This suggests that those letters all actually belong to one sign and one word. The lines of cars that are occasionally obstructed from the observer's view by other objects are visually understood using continuation. The main point that Wood focuses on is the idea of sulfur–aerosol injection, in which sulfur dioxide would be pumped into the sky. However, there are several issues with this concept that he addresses in his article. The first issue that is addressed is the possibility of acid rain and severe climate shifts. Geophysicists argue that while the idea would work, catastrophic failures would incur if the sulfur dioxide were ever to stop pumping into the atmosphere. Wood lists several downfalls of this system, almost in an intimidating manner. He makes the downfalls seem horrendous to the benefits. However, Wood also completely disregards the other alternative ideas for solving global warming. From painted skies to carbon–eating trees, the only concept discussed in depth is the sulfur dioxide idea. This raises concerns as the idea he appears to support the most also happens to be the idea that he discusses the atrocious downfalls of. What is interesting about this paper is the author's purpose. • 59. Teotihuacan Textual Analysis Often when studying history we encounter a paradigm of thinking that explicitly emphasizes the importance of written history above all else. In art history however, we are struck with the issue of navigating this paradigm in a field of study that sometimes only has visual culture for us to reference. Because of this, it often becomes a challenge to incorporate this visual evidence with a written record, whether it be another culture's record or a written record that isn't inherently "written". And when it comes to examining the visual culture of Post–Classic Mexico, both of these are the case. With Mixtec and Aztec codices made entirely of pictographs and glyphs, we are forced to consider colonial hybrid documents in addition to these glyphs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most prominent examples of this is the debate surrounding the Great Goddess of Teotihuacan which can be seen in Figure 2. With a lack of textual evidence to help understand this deity's gender or potential role in Teotihuacan culture, we as historians are forced to make assumptions often relying "on modern, Western stereotypes of femininity and masculinity" (Mandell, 29). As seen in Elisa C. Mandell's article "A New Analysis of the Gender Attribution of the "Great Goddess" of Teotihuacan" from Ancient Mesoamerica, the depiction of the Great Goddess is complicated due to a lack of obvious primary or secondary sexual organs (Mandell, 30). Because of this, analysis of the deity's gender must be based upon more subjective elements such as clothing and ceremonial dress. However, unlike the Aztec, we have no textual evidence like codices or colonial hybrid documents to designate gendered clothing or depictions in Teotihuacan culture. We cannot even assume the deity's gender from Post–classic text as it can easily be misinterpreted like the initial theory that the Great Goddess represents the rain god Tlaloc. Whereas in the post– classic period we can look at at statue of Coatlicue and connect her skirt of snakes to the textual depiction of her image, we have no basis of comparison to identify or gender the Great Goddess. And while Mendell's argument for the female gender of the Great Goddess remains sound, she is forced to draw from a variety of complex representations of Teotihuacan art and iconography such as sculpture, bowls, and murals that lack a direct translation and association which inherently leaves room ... In this chapter, Paul undergoes emotional and physical maturation, and his appreciation and comprehension of music is strongly tied with this change. It in this chapter that he meets Rosie, his first love and future wife. Rosie represents Paul's first experience of the adult world. She acts as a kind of conduit for his maturation. When teaching her, he employs Keller's idiosyncratic techniques, which he had previously dismissed as juvenile and worthless: "'Looser', I would counsel, repeating the clever phrases I had learned from Keller." This demonstrates a change in Paul's attitude toward music, a transition from arrogance to maturity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Paul relates these new emotions to music: "I was transported again to that same sensual, aching zone. The music seemed nearer to lovemaking than to music ... and now I knew about lovemaking." Again, sensual language is used to convey a strong sense of feeling. Following this, Paul seeks music full of emotion and power, from Romantic composers Liszt and Rachmaninoff, as an output for these feelings, ignoring Keller's regiment of rigid Classical music. Lines 94–96 supports my idea of Beowulf wasn't afraid of nothing or nobody. He could have been in the king's position, but he chose not too for the simplest facts that he wasn't next in line. Although he was the strongest, he wanted to do what was ethical. Beowulf decided to take 14 of his best men because he knew they were his ride or die. They weren't going to get scared and back down. His men weren't cowards. Line 111 and 120 supports my decision to where they stayed strapped and ready for who or whatever. Actually, Socrates was nicknamed the Athenian Gadfly, because he felt that the gods must have put him in front of the Athenian people so that the citizens wouldn't lack spiritually, and felt like he was a gadfly annoying a horse. Before Socrates, philosophy consisted more of 'what is out–of–one's control' such as skepticism about the universe and its nature. Socrates flipped the script from external, tangible ideology to internal thought and how it effects the human collective, hence procreating the concept of Ethics. He pioneered morality as a science. Because of Socrates we know that it is a positive thing to think deeper, search harder, and accept what we can't understand or control. Yet, the analysis of Socrates' thought is handicapped by the infamous "problem of socrates": he didn't document or write anything. However, others, such as Plato and Xenophon, did document the dirty life and times of Mr. Socrates. The debate, supposedly, is how fabricated the stories truly are. Much like the story of Jesus Christ, there isn't nothing written by him or even till late in his life, or perhaps after, so it is hard for one to accept Socrates' ideas as an absolute truth. Socrates believes that knowledge is one of the most paramount ways in which a man can 'succeed.' True knowledge is something one understands to be true because of having lived it out for one's self. Every scenario that a person lives through only makes that person more understanding. Wiser, if you will. People are flawed. Pocahontas introduces crucial background information such as the different settings, characters, etc. This is primarily done through the use of dialogue. It creates a match cut, where two similar shots are joined together, making the transition hidden from the viewers. Upon first sight, my first thought was that the purpose of these items is obliviously to hold and serve as containers for other objects. Though they are different in size, it's clear they serve that same idea. Both items are also shaped in sort of a rounded and spherical way; the edges are smoothed out and they all have a nice organic flow to them. There is nothing geometric or jagged about any of the pieces. While reading deeper into the description of the Egyptian jars, I found out that they were used to store the deceased's organs during the process of mummification. These jars ... The design on the other vase looks to be like a tree growing upward. The black strokes seem to represent different size branches as those found on a tree or a plant of some sort. Another noticeable difference is that the modern vases are European, one being from Sweden and the other from Italy. The ancient jars, as previously stated, are Egyptian. The sizes seem to differ between the modern and ancient containers as well. The modern vases appear taller and leaner compared to the shorter and more rotund jars. This may be because the jars did not have to be very tall in order to hold the organs; they were able to serve their purpose at a smaller height and a wider circumference. The tall and slender shapes of the vases were probably just a design or style choice the designer made to achieve his vision. The materials used to create the pieces are worth noting as well. The vases were probably glass blown and then hand painted while I couldn't really tell for sure what the jars were made of but it appeared to be some sort of stone or clay.
