Skull Island Act 1 Scene 2 Essay
Scene 1: The tone of the overture for the film is very dark. This harsh music could foreshadow fights
or arguments during the movie. However, the music also has parts where it speeds up and slows down.
The slow parts could resemble the calm before the storm, which occurs when the music speeds up.
Scene 2: The mood of the music is very mysterious. The characters do not know what they are getting
themselves into by sailing to Skull Island. They are somewhat nervous about what they are going to
encounter, but seem to be kind of optimistic. The music gives the island an intriguing atmosphere.
Scene 3: As the crew approaches the island natives, the music crescendos and the drums are very
prominent. They speed up as the crew gets closer and closer signifying the anticipation of meeting the
natives. The strings, percussion, and brass instruments can easily be heard throughout the scene. These

As the man confesses his love to the woman, the music is light hearted and fairy like. Then, as the
woman is standing by the side of the ship alone, a boat comes into view. The music matches the
approaching visitors and their mysteriousness. It becomes slow, low, and dark. However, as the people
on the boat take the girl the music speeds up and crescendos and then finally tapers off as they leave in
the boat.
Scene 5: The music during this part is harsh, which represents the danger that is approaching. During
certain sections, the music is drown out by the roaring of Kong and the screaming of the woman.
However, it is still noticeable how the music speeds up as Kong gets closer to the woman. The strings
play an important role during this part since they can play quick notes easier than other instruments
that may be in the orchestra. The music returns to its normal speed and the trumpets are prominent

Reoccurring Themes In Dubliners By James Joyce
In Counterparts , in the collection Dubliners by James Joyce, many themes are developed over the
course of the short story. Farrington is oppressed by his boss and at home and he cannot stand being
controlled by his smaller boss and his monotonous work. He finds comfort in the bar, however this
comfort turns into his humiliation and anger again. His anger towards the characters due to being
bossed around and his own clumsiness controlling him is a reoccurring theme in the story. Farrington s
anger towards his boss happens due to his own fault. He is incompetent at the workplace, and cannot
make copies of legal documents for his job. This incompetence is going to continue, and he will
continue to mess up in the future, and continue to

A Chapel By William Blake Analysis Essay
Blake starts the poem with an almost idyllic or nostalgic atmosphere; he uses rhyme s that contains a
very long E sound, which forces the reader to smile for proper pronunciation. The speaker is visiting
the garden of his youth, which he realizes has been occupied by briars and tombstones; symbolizing
death. The once open, green piece of land where he used to play, has been covered, and on it, a chapel
has been erected in the middle of its space. The narrator s dismay cannot be fully recognized as the
poem starts; the building of the chapel does not imply any specific disapproval, especially because the
line, And saw what I never had seen, may be taken positively at first read. However, A Chapel was
built in the midst Where I used to play on the green, hints at a more despondent feeling; the narrator is
realizing that the field has been robbed of its innocence, which effectively begins to present the chapel
as evil. The Chapel, in comparison to the garden, is completely unnatural; its shape is triangular and
squarish, making it almost forced and artificial in its place on the natural field. In this way, Blake
successfully conveys his antipathy towards the church and organized religion; he is presenting its
position in the garden as one of complete irregularity, sadness, and gloom. Thinking of the garden of
love in the biblical sense, it very much represents the Garden of Eden; where Adam and Eve once
lived in innocence, without the guilt of love. Thinking of Blake s

Apollo And Dafne Essay
Apollo and Dafne is a life sized hand carved marble sculpture created by Gian Lorenzo Bernini
between 1622 and 1625. It represents Apollo (God of Light and Poetry) and a river nymph named
Daphne. It is kept at the Galleria Borghese, Rome (Italy).
This sculpture is inspired by a tale from book I of Ovid s Metamorphosis. Daphne was Apollo s first
love. It was no accident, but by the evil intentions of Cupid. Apollo saw cupid with a bow and arrows
and made fun of him feeling confident after defeating a python. Cupid is upset with getting teased.
Cupid fires two different arrows. One arrow is tipped with gold and makes people fall in love. The
other lead arrow does the opposite. Apollo is struck with the golden arrow of love and Daphne gets
shot with the lead tipped arrow. Apollo immediately falls in love with Daphne, but she finds the idea
of loving anybody unpleasant. Daphne tells her father; Peneus she wants to remain a virgin. He tells
her that she owes him grandchildren. Peneus agreed to his daughter s request, saying she will not have
to get married. Apollo is head over heels in love with Daphne and pursues her in the woods. He is
attempting to convince her of how wonderful he is but Daphne wants nothing to do with Apollo.
Eventually, Apollo catches up with the beautiful nymph in the woods. Daphne calls out to her father to
help. Peneus turns her into a tree. Daphne is encased in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Juan Rico Character Analysis
Soldiers supply the violence, those in charge the heads supply the control. Tagalog speaking and math
inept Juan Rico is a fairly bland character at the beginning of Starship Troopers whom enlisted into the
Terran Federation Army on a whim; the desire to escape his father s suffocating standards and the
pressure of both of Rico s friends enlisting quickly forces our main character to sign up. By the end of
his saga, Juan Johnny Rico morphs from an inexperienced fresh faced teen into a cold, calculating
warrior soldiering his way up the ranks of the Army. Without being fully aware of his own transition,
we witness Johnny s descent, and his decision to join did nothing but contribute to the apathetic,

Dubois is an eccentric one armed veteran who s introduced next in the book as Johnny s former
History and Moral Philosophy teacher while he was still in secondary school. Sassy and inquisitive, he
operates as the moral compass of the novel, explaining to us in Johnny s periodical flashbacks why the
world became what it is and why it was vastly superior to previous societies at any other point in
history. As law, only citizens can teach History and Moral Philosophy. It s already been established
that soldiers are brainwashed for the sake of being the government s expendable ammo, so it s
inherently flawed from the get go that Dubois teaches the only class on morality. Somehow, in the
future, the right to self ceased to exist. To Dubois, the noblest fate that a man can endure is to place his
own body between his loved home and war s desolation (Heinlein 114). Remember, civilians are in a
bubble of ignorance, so his declarations of sentiment are ill received by his students. They don t know
how to honestly respond to his questions because they haven t taken the time to think about what
morality and history have to do with each other, and this includes Johnny. During his training, Johnny
receives a letter from Dubois, who is proud of his decision to join the Military Infantry and offers
words of encouragement and advice. Johnny, alone and sad, soaks this in and actually begins
processing Dubois words. However, he doesn t realize the flaws in what his teacher

Local Foods And Local Food
The local food movement connects both producers and consumers in the same geographic region
which develops a more community reliant food system. Local foods impact the local community,
environment, one s health, and the overall society. Local food does not have a definite answer, but it
does involve many subjects which are all distinguishable throughout the food system. Local food
could also represent the distance from the farm to the table. If local food is distributed straight to a
food hub, or a farmers market, or a grocery store, then the food could be considered local. If the food
is distributed to a manufacturer, or a warehouse that delivers the food to a grocery store, then the food
would not be considered local. This would not be considered local because the food is being carried to
multiple different areas which increases food miles. There are many goals that are put in place from
many local food supporters that involve food hubs, community gardens, and farmer markets that all
want to create a more sustainable local food system. Local food systems help the local economy and
allows consumers to buy products from their local farmers, and communities. Some urban areas are in
high risk of poverty and it does not allow for locals to buy healthy foods for their families. They are at
risk for their health from the foods they have to buy considering what they can and cannot afford.
Also, there are many urban communities who are creating a more local food system for their

The Differences Of Religion In Eastern And Western Religions
The eastern religions that we have discussed in class are Hinduism, Confucianism, Buddhism, and
Taoism. The western religions that we have discussed in class are Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.
The Eastern Religions have originated in countries such as China, India, and Japan. The western
religions originated in Europe and the Americas. There are few similarities between eastern religions
and western religions, but many differences. The biggest difference between the two religions is that
eastern religions believe in more than one god, whereas western religions believe in one God.
In eastern religions it is common to worship more than one god. Eastern religions believe in
polytheism, and polytheism is when someone believes in many gods. After death, Eastern religions
believe in reincarnation. Reincarnation is the rebirth and spirit matter distinction and is the liberation
cycle of existence. In western religions only one God is worshipped. Western religions believe in
monotheism. Monotheism is the belief of one God and it is the belief that only God has created the
world and everything in it. After death, western religions believe in heaven. A similarity of eastern
religions and western religions are that they both believe in an afterlife, although they do not believe
in the same kind of afterlife. Another similarity is that both eastern and western religions have had a
huge impact throughout history. Hinduism is one of the eastern religions that we discussed in class.

The Impact Of Great Britain On The Industrial Revolution
By Definition, a rapid major change in an economy (as in England in the late 18th century) marked by
the general introduction of power driven machinery, or by an important change in the prevailing types
and methods of use of such machines. Merriam Webster This definition over simplifies the industrial
revolution. In reality the Industrial Revolution was much more complex and encompasses many
different aspects. With that said the events that led to the Industrial Revolution were even more
complicated. How and why Great Britain was the first to lead the Revolution was multifaceted and
involves many aspects of economic and social developments. The predisposition of easily acquired
recourse and healthy state politics allowed Great Britain to prosper. A core piece of the Industrial
revolution was the advent of new technology. This technology would increase the production and
efficiency of all factories. As more and more people flooded the cities and towns the demand for more
goods skyrocketed pushing civilization into a new age. The Industrial Revolution was a cycle that feed
itself, with need came technology and with technology came need and through this process arose new
society. What led Great Britain to become the first country to star in the Industrial Revolution, comes
down to a complex system of factors. Each aspect holds a major role in the contribution in the growth
of the Industrial Revolution and of Great Britain.
To begin with, for any civilization to develop,

Gathering Blue Essay
Have you ever thought about what it would be like not to be free? What would it be like not to be able
to make choices? What would it be like not to be able to do what you want? It s scary to think about
not being free, but even in the world today some people don t even have basic human freedoms. Lois
Lowry shows us in her books The Giver and Gathering Blue what it would be like not to have freedom
and how important it is that we have it.

dismisses it from her mind for the most part and focuses on the singer. At the end of the song, she

walks down the stairs of the stage. She is horrified by the sight of the man s bare, grotesque feet and
ankles. He has big ankle cuffs and a huge chain dragging behind him. Kira is so surprised that she
thinks for a minute she could have imagined it, but as she sees the fresh trail of blood the singer leaves
behind as he walks inside, she knows she hasn t. When she realizes suddenly and with clarity what it
all meant, (p. 211) she sees that she is not as free as she thought she was in her new life.
Kira also starts to question her freedom when she and Thomas go downstairs to visit the little girl Jo.
Jo is a little tyke who is also and orphan like Kira and Thomas but has an amazing voice. She is being
locked in a room all by herself and forced to learn songs. All she wants is to sing her own songs, but
the Council of Guardians won t let her. Kira starts to see what Jo is going through. All the nice things,

Winter s Bones Film Analysis
Winter s Bones is a film based on a novel. It was nominated to several Academy Award like the

It helps the plot to cause intrigue and expectation. We can appreciate some songs of the genre folk and
country, typical of those regions. The light used throughout the film. In terms of cinematography, long
shots, full shots, and close up predominate. The use of establishing shot helps the viewer to locate not
so much at a specific time but in a specific context. That is, deep America. POV shots are also used on
different occasions. An example of this, it is a scene in which Ree goes with his neighbor who is also
half cousin in a car to supposedly look for Jessup s body. From the perspective of the character we see
the road. The director uses match on action at different times. For example, there is a scene in which
the protagonist arrives at her friend s house to see her and ask her a favor. We see them open the door
and then they are inside the room. This effect helps to give continuity to an action that happens in one
shot and continues in the next one. Another of the editing techniques widely used in the film is the
reverse shot parent, 180 degree rule, and aye line match. There are very meetings in the movie. Most
of them, between the protagonist and each of the characters that she visits to ask about her father.
Sometimes these conversations can be carried out with the characters in the same plane. Other times,
the camera shows us first one of the character, and then the other character in other shot as the

As Hercules stumbled upon the den of the Nemean lion, he could see it sleeping soundly. Hercules

me very well. I very strongly agree with the results I have received. The first letter of my score is I,

something I have always had an appreciation for and felt was necessary for my happiness. The next
letter in my type stands for sensing. This means I heavily rely on my five senses to take in

The Importance Of Perfluorooctanoic Acid ( Pfoa )
In the 1950 s DuPont, an American industrial conglomerate, started producing Teflon at its
Washington Works Plant near Parkersburg, WV; a couple of hours southeast of Columbus, Ohio on the
Ohio River. Teflon is a non stick coating commonly found on water resistant clothing, cookware,
among other things. One of the main byproducts of Teflon is perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), more
commonly known as C8. DuPont s Washington Works plant released C8 into the air as well as the
Ohio River until 2001, at which point abnormally high levels of the acid were detected in drinking
water supplies throughout the river in Little Hocking, Ohio. The Little Hocking water system consists
of five groundwater wells located immediately west (downstream) of the Ohio River and it took
approximately 50 years for the C8 released into the Ohio River to reach the well fields. This is
because contaminates were transferred via groundwater, which travels much slower than the river s
surface water. However, once the C8 had infiltrated the wells, an estimated 70,000 people were
exposed to contaminated water. Shortly after the harmful levels of C8 were detected in the well fields,
exposure to C8 was linked to cases of kidney cancer, testicular cancer, ulcerative colitis, thyroid
disease, pregnancy induced hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia. As a result, in 2005, customers of
Little Hocking Water (LHWA) along with five other rural water systems (Lubeck Public Service

Drug Testing Essay
There is a big question floating in the air around a lot of people today,
Is drug testing the welfare constitutional or not?
When dealing with this we come to many road blocks. We should know and understand the difference
in a drug use problem and a psychiatric disorder. Also understanding the difference in substance abuse
and substance dependence. Confusing the two could be an issue. When you decide to drug test the
welfare there is much more that needs to go into it than just the test to determine if you should receive
benefits from the state or not. Think about the rights we have as Americans have. Drug testing the

Full Metal Alchemist Research Paper
Full Metal Alchemist is a show that revolves around alchemy. Alchemy is also something that existed
in the real world. Although Full Metal Alchemist (FMA) is just a show, it shares some very interesting
similarities to real alchemy, such as the concept of transmuting elements, creating a philosopher s
stone , and the pursuit of immortality. The two also have some stark differences such as the process of
creating a philosopher s stone, the purpose and uses of alchemy, and the political significance of
alchemy in FMA. They both have some similarities that they share but they also remain very different
in many ways. In the science of alchemy all alchemists practiced transmutation. They sought a way to
change base metals into precious metals. In FMA the alchemist they had the power to change base
metals to gold. This is a process that can be done in the real world. In order to change Lead (Pb) to
Gold (Au) it requires particle acceleration to release three protons from lead therefore changing the
atomic number of the atom from 82 to 79. This process will then change the lead to gold. In FMA they
use another form of energy to accelerate the particles and they can change lead to gold almost
instantly. That is a form of transmutation that they both share. ... Show more content on

Heathcliff Characteristics
Geographical Surroundings Shape Traits Throughout the novel, issues of setting and social status can
reflect onto the characters, therefore shaping their traits. Each character is connected to their differing
settings, which in return creates the character s differing attitudes and psychological or moral traits.
Heathcliff, Edgar Linton, and Catherine Earnshaw are the three characters in which their settings
reflect their personalities, and therefore create their physical and moral traits. Heathcliff is harsh and
fierce, for he seems dark and mysterious because he never shows his emotions. When first introduced
to Heathcliff in the novel, he lacked hospitality and comfort towards Lockwood when he had come to
visit him as a guest. Heathcliff, for the beginning parts of his life, stood in a lower social class than the
people he lived around, and therefore created a dark attitude towards others out of anger and jealousy.
His dark and evil traits are connected to landscape around his house, Wuthering Heights, for they have
the same characteristics as Heathcliff. The landscape that surrounds the house can be described as

Critical, Theological Review of the Film Chocolat Essay
Set in 1950 s France, Chocolat is a film centred on the Catholic virtue of temperance, or rather the
struggle to achieve temperance when the church is faced with the temptation of a 2000 year old
chocolate recipe. Temperance is defined in the catholic encyclopaedia as the righteous habit which
makes a man govern his natural appetite for pleasures of the senses in accordance with the norm
prescribed by reason , and in Chocolat it is the Comte de Reynaud, the major and self appointed moral
authority for the whole community, that attempts to keep check of the villager s carnal passions and
temptations. There is an obvious conflict between the Comte and Vianne Rocher, the single mother
who arrives in Lansquenet bringing a splash of red to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Comte reacts by slamming the door shut against the wind, forcing it, and its possible changing
qualities, out of the church. It is the season of Lent, and the restrictions of that religious season are
strictly enforced in the village. The citizens are ruled with an iron fist by the mayor and there is little
joy in the village with the inhabitants slaves to the religious oppression of the Comte de Reynaud.
Even the young Catholic priest, Pere Henri is controlled by the mayor. The mayor even tells Pere
Henri at one point, If you haven t seen the chocolaterie, you might want to take a look. It s important
to know one s enemies. Thus, anything and anyone who opposes this man s rigid religious tradition is
the enemy , an attitude often seen, even today among religious extremists and legalistic believers. The
Comte encourages the villagers to resist the temptations of Vianne s sweet chocolates, telling them to
boycott immorality , and a tussle ensues between him and Vianne. Jeff Shannon, a noted film critic,
comments, The film covers familiar territory and deals in broad metaphors that even a child could
comprehend. There is nothing deep or complex about the message, and yet the cinematic metaphors
are so broad that countless applications are possible. The film begins with the introduction, Once upon
a time , thus some see it as a kind of superior fable or parable of the eternal cosmic battle between

Slaughterhouse Five Delusions
From the very beginning of Slaughterhouse Five the biggest question is: is it real or delusion?
Throughout the book, Billy pilgrim claims to travel through time and be abducted by aliens, but until
the later chapters, there is no solid evidence as to whether it is real or just delusion. The truth about
Billy s tale is concealed until near the end of the book when he meets Kilgore Trout and finally some
solid evidence shows that Billy s unusual adventures are just delusions and insanity. In fact, the
technique Vonnegut uses to conceal the truth is called an unreliable narrator. An unreliable narrator is
when the reader cannot believe what the narrator is saying. An unreliable narrator gives the reader
false information but acts like it is true. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

(pg.149). To them, death is just a small part of an endless cycle. Consequently, Billy seems to hold
little value for human life, especially his own. The death of people in the book is never really given

older Caucasians. Hispanics are one and a half times more likely to develop Alzheimer s disease than
Caucasians. Most cases of Alzheimer s are caused from a mutation in one of the APP, PSEN1, or

The Law Of The Old Testament Essay
Many people, even if they are not very religious, are concerned about what is heaven, and if they are
going to heaven. They want to know how to know God and how to be right with God, so that they do
go to heaven. Let s discuss this very simply.
Actually, this is a very difficult question to answer under the LAW of the Old Testament. But it is a
very easy question to answer under grace in the New Testament. Keep in mind we shouldn t be living
under the law of the Old Testament. We are judged by our belief in the gospel, not by the law (Rom
2:16).
CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS VIEWS
There are two ways to live a God type of life. THE FIRST is focused on self (in the Bible, Paul calls
this self righteousness. This is where your focus is yourself, and you living a good life my means of
some law, standards, rules, principles, methods (Phil 3:9). Living in this type of self righteousness he
says we are ignorant of God s righteousness (Rom 10:3).
THE SECOND is to live life by in God s grace and in his gift of righteousness (Rom 5:17). This is the
gospel way, relying on the finished work of the cross of Jesus.
WHAT IS LAW IN THE BIBLE?
The first way I just described is the way of the Old Testament, which was a system of law. Everyone
who lived by this system failed (Rom 3:10). Not one single person was able to live in this type of
arrangement (Acts 15:10).
By the time Jesus came there were close to 700 laws to follow. Earlier, when Moses brought the law
in, there were only 10

the causes and effects of war. Einstein reached out to Freud after the First World War, as requested to
do so by the International Institute of Intellectual Cooperation (IIIC), to discuss what he called a
subject calculated to serve the common interest of the League of Nations and of intellectual life. His
central argument surrounds wars between nations, international affairs, but agrees that these greater
wars must originate at the individual. Einstein continues, not to explain why men engage in acts of
war and violence, but to suggest ways in which war can be resolved by setting up, by international
consent, of a legislative and judicial body to settle every conflict arising between nations... [that
would] abide by the orders issued by this legislative body, to invoke its decision in every dispute, to
accept its judgments unreservedly and to carry out every measure the tribunal deems necessary... He
believes that laws governed by the community, instead of individualistic oligarchies, will do well to
succeed. This does eventually somewhat translate to actual law during World War II: First, that

Descriptive Essay On A Live Concert
About a year ago, my father, my sister, and I, went to go attend a live concert because I had never
viewed one before. Although, both my sister, and father had seen many concerts before me (thank you
my beloved family for leaving me alone with no form of entertainment, every time you left for a
concert). We planned to see the band Blink182, one of my family s favorite punk rock bands, in
Maine. There are three main parts to this wonderful journey, it begins with the drive, then the actual
concert, and finally the drive back, which were all equally entertaining (in my opinion). It was an
outdoor concert, but I would have preferred an indoor concert because functioning bathrooms are
really important to me, but I did not complain. My sister and I anticipated the day we would leave to
see the wonderful Maine we had heard so much about from our father. All we had to do, was wait. The
day arrived sooner than expected, and my father booked us a flight to Boston, Massachusetts. Prior to
our departure, I had always thought that Boston was located in Maine (I do not know anything about
geography), but I soon learned it was not, thanks to my father, and sister constantly making fun of my
poor geography skills. We then left on September 3rd, for an airport in Boston. My father had to drive
us the rest of the way up to Maine, from the airport (and boy, was that an adventure). We took a detour
on the way up, and stopped at a recommended place from my father, called Newbury Comics. Being

The War between the States
The Civil War also known as the War Between the States was a war fought from 1861 to 1865. The
war was fought in the United States after seven Southern slave sates declared their separation to form
the Confederate States of America. The Southern states were known as the Confederacy. But, the
states that remained which were the Northern States were called the Union. The War was the deadliest
war in American history; it killed approximately 620,000 soldiers. The soldiers died from combat,
accidents, starvation, and diseases. The Southern States declared secession because they did not want
to get rid of slavery. However, the Northern States and Abraham Lincoln had abolished slavery and
were completely against it. This made the Southern states upset; it became the major cause of The
Civil War.
On April 12, 1861, the deadliest was begun, shots were fired. The Confederate soldiers attacked the
Union s Fort Sumter in South Carolina. General Beauregard sent Major Anderson a message an hour
before the attack saying he would fire if Anderson and his soldiers didn t surrender. An hour passed
and Anderson did not surrender so the firing began. Major Anderson and 68 of his soldiers were inside
the fort when the attack began. A couple months prior Anderson moved his troops from Fort Moultrie
to Fort Sumter, because he thought Fort Sumter was more protected. Fort Sumter had been the only
fort in South Carolina that was not seized. On the day of the attack when the Confederate opened fire,

Elishade And Orsi Analysis
When choosing a theorist that best describes religion with clarity and concise points, Clifford Geertz
displays a superior definition in comparison to Eliade and Orsi. According to Geertz, religion is a
system of symbols which acts to establish powerful, pervasive, and long lasting moods and
motivations in men. He argues that religion creates a facade of a general order of existence, leading to
seemingly factual/uniquely realistic moods and motivations. While all religions vary in viewpoints,
prayer remains an axis connecting each to the others. More specifically, time and time again, those
dealing with sickness and suffering have turned from medical healing to the powers of prayer. Geertz
establishes the power of prayer as a symbol regarding religion and its importance within a variety of
religious groups such as the Amish, Jewish, and Episcopalian views within Christianity. With the
subtleties that Geertz defines within the functioning of symbols, religion can create different moods
and motivations for believers. Despite the fact that worldview created through symbols varies by
religion, there is a common core of religious vernacular within prayers that act as a symbol that
connects different religions together. Despite the fact that worldview varies, many religions share a
commonality of religious jargon which connects their religious symbols. ... Show more content on

To Orsi, religion is explaining, understanding or modeling reality by means of a meaning making
symbol system to further establish relationships. The main difference between Orsi and Geerts is that
Orsi assumes religion is good or bad . By being objective, Orsi creates an opinion that religion is very
one sided and that pigheadedness leads to cultural bias between different religions such as the Israeli
Palestinian conflict. To search for authenticity of many religions would denote from the core
ambitious nature of many

United States army as well as naval forces to a group of businessmen belonging to the sugar and

forces of the United States at the Honolulu. He proposed that the past should be buried and the
restored Government should resume its authority without being affected. But Congress did not act
upon this command. In 1894, Hawaii came under Stanford Dole, who, declared himself president of
the Republic without much consent from the natives. The queen was placed under house arrest held
for the guilt of treason. A fine of $5000 was also placed on her. In 1896, the Republican Party called
for the annexation of Hawaii in the presidential election. In 1990, Hawaii legitimately became a U.S.
territory under William McKinley, out of fear that it may be annexed by Japan. He also feared that he
lacked majority support for the annexation in the Senate. Eventually, several immigrant laborers from

Who Is Hassan A Foil In The Kite Runner
There is no good if there is no bad, a recurring motif throughout many fiction novels. This novel was

bravest characters, the heart of Afghanistan, and is one of the most complex characters, but has an
instinctual nature which makes him a simple character to understand. Hassan s purpose in the novel is
to be the foil of Amir. Initially, the story came to be when Hosseini thought of giving Hassan an alter

Hassan had it tougher than Amir at the very beginning, he was born into a difficult life by being raised
by a Hazara servant. Which as a result, he learns that it is his duty to sacrifice himself for others. For
instance, he wakes up every morning to get Amir ready for school while he is held back doing
housework, and even tells Amir he is happy with what he has, although he clearly sees what he lacks
himself. On other several different accounts he was taking advantage of his selflessness from being
raped for the sake of keeping Amir s winning kite in tack, which he knew meant a great deal to him.
Yardley reviews Hosseini s second book where it is about the story of these two women, which
reaches its climax in an act of extraordinary generosity and self sacrifice (3) Hosseini adopted the
theme of sacrifice in both of his novels, where a character voluntarily sacrifices something so dear to
them, in Hassan s cases his innocence. By Hassan having the crucial trait of being selfless, it is the
motor to all the event that foreshadow. Perhaps if Hassan was not as selfless, Amir and Assef would

Strategy and Strategic Management
STRATEGY AND STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
What is Strategy?
A strategy is a long term approach to implementing a firm s business plans to achieve its business
objectives. It is also defined as the art and science of planning and marshalling resources for their
most efficient and effective use.
However, Johnson and Scholes (Exploring Corporate Strategy) define strategy as follows:
Strategy is the direction and scope of an organization over the long term: which achieves advantage
for the organization through its configuration of resources within a challenging environment, to meet
the needs of markets and to fulfill stakeholder expectations .

It entails specifying the organization s mission, vision and objectives, developing policies and plans,
often in terms of projects and programs, which are designed to achieve these objectives, and then
allocating resources to implement the policies and plans, projects and programs. A balanced scorecard
is often used to evaluate the overall performance of the business and its progress towards objectives.
Recent studies and leading management theorists have advocated that strategy needs to start with
stakeholders expectations and use a modified balanced scorecard which includes all stakeholders.
Strategic management is an ongoing process that evaluates and controls the business and the industries
in which the company is involved; assesses its competitors and sets goals and strategies to meet all
existing and potential competitors; and then reassesses each strategy annually or quarterly [i.e.
regularly] to determine how it has been implemented and whether it has succeeded or needs
replacement by a new strategy to meet changed circumstances, new technology, new competitors, a
new economic environment., or a new social, financial, or political environment. (Lamb, 1984)

Japan s Foreign Policy During The End Of The Twentieth...
In the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Japan was a strong militaristic country that
held a strong power and influence in the Asia Pacific region. It was an expansionist and strong
imperialist nation similar as the Western colonizers such as England, the Dutch, Russia, France and
Germany. The Japanese empire extended from the Dutch East Indies in the south to Manchuria in the
north before the country surrendered on September 1945 to the Allies. The Allied Power led by
General Douglas MacArthur had occupied Japan for several years before it was fully liberated in
1952. After the occupation, Japan s foreign policy was given back to its government. The country took
the opportunity given to repair its relations with its neighbours. Some historians claimed that the
reconciliation period was successful through several treaties agreed upon the East Asian countries in
the 1960s. However, it was different side of the story when the issue was asked to the Japanese former
colonies. A lot of its people will claim that they could not forget what the Empire of Japan had done to
them. Hence, it would be wise to ask how does Japan war history would affect its relations with its
East Asia neighbours?
This paper will explain the two most significant impacts that the aggressive Empire of Japan history
affects its connections with its neighbours. History has caused the reconciliation process between the
countries to be delayed and continues frictions between them to occur.

Ancient Roman Times Research Paper
Reading in the ancient roman times was different and similar from reading in the US today. The
ancient romans read from scrolls made out of sheets of papyrus or wooden tablets covered with wax.
We read from stacks of printed paper fastened together at one side. But there are also similarities
between the two. The first difference between reading in the ancient roman times and reading in the
US today is that the ancient romans would have public reading sessions. Public reading became the
central pillar of Roman literary life. People would recite epics, tragedies, comedies, and lyrics, but
mostly poetry. They d regale crowds, at dinner parties, in plazas/forums, and during the Games

Purpose Of A Business Model For An E Procurement...
Introduction:
Executive Summary
The aim of this report is to help XYZ Micro Turbines better understand the opportunities and
challenges faced by leveraging an e Procurement marketplace to conduct business, whilst maintaining
a bespoke e business solution for their customers.
The internet and World Wide Web have changed how we conduct business for ever, the basics of
business remain the same, and a company with goods or services needs customers to purchase from
them. E business refers to a broader definition of E Commerce, not just the buying and selling of
goods and services, but also servicing customers, collaborating with business partners, and conducting
electronic transactions within the organization (Turban, et al., 2002). What makes e business different
is the scope and range of the business/customer relationship. There is no longer the need for a face to
face physical transaction to take place in order to procure goods or services. Through the use of
technology e business has revolutionised the way we think about and transact business. Understanding
the different type of business model available to organisations helps drive their strategy. In this
instance XYZ Micro Turbines wish to conduct business with its suppliers over and established e
Procurement marketplace yet create a bespoke e business solution for customer purchases. This report
aims to identify what XYZ Microturbines need to undertake to make sure they are ready to implement
their business

Mattel Inc
Question One: Do manufacturers of products for children have special responsibilities to consumers
and society? What are these responsibilities and how well has Mattel met them? Provide evidence of
Mattel s strengths and weaknesses in this area.
Yes. As Mattel s products are designed primarily for children, it must be sensitive to societal concerns
about children s rights.
Strengths
Responsibility towards the community * Mattel recognizes international environment, different legal
systems and cultural expectations, and the use of technology especially with regard to consumer
privacy and has taken steps to strengthen its commitment to business ethics and social responsibility. *

Targeting children with internet sites, however, brings about extra concerns. Mattel must be very
careful to protect their legal and moral reputations by respecting the privacy of the children and their
families, which is put in jeopardy every time the website asks a minor to provide information.
Lack of total control over business partners
Though Mattel has embarked on the Global manufacturing Principles (GMP) and regular social audits,
Mattel cannot intensively monitor the business processes and activities of its partners. There is no
guarantee that its business partners will completely comply with Mattel s corporate social
responsibility (CSR), ethical business conducts and product safety requirements. Mattel somehow
could be facing legal actions and criticisms from various stakeholders around the world.
Question Two: Comment on the strengths and weaknesses of Mattel s core brands (Barbie and
American Girl). In looking at Barbie specifically, has Mattel s success with the American Girl
collection cannibalized sales from Barbie? Explain.
Strength
Brand Recognition * Barbie is Mattel s flagship brand and its number one seller routinely accounting
for more than 50 percent of Mattel s sales revenue. * Barbie was the only Mattel brand that made the
list of the 2002 The 100 Best Global Brand . * American Girl is targeted for girls in from 7

Tevye s Fiddler On The Roof
The definition of a fiddler is as follows: a person who plays the violin, especially one who plays folk
music. However, in the play Fiddler on the Roof , the word fiddler has so much more meaning. It
means tradition, balance, and it is also a representation of the people of Anatevka. The fiddler in the
play shows up fairly often. And every time it adds meaning to the play. At the very beginning, Tevye
tells us that the fiddler is a representation of the people of Anatevka: But in our little village of
Anatevka, you might say every one of us is a fiddler on the roof, trying to scratch out a pleasant,
simple tune without breaking his neck. (Pg 2) And it is completely true. Throughout the book it is
evident that Tevye especially struggles to keep his balance while he tries to keep ... Show more

Speaking of balance, that s the other thing that the fiddler represents. When Tevye comes back from
the bar, and after speaking to the constable (Pg. 54), the fiddler comes into the scene and ...he circles
Tevye, and they dance off together. (Pg. 54). In the book, that s all it says. However, in the movie you
can see the fiddler beckoning Tevye and they begin to dance off together, but the music slowly begins
to spin out of control as the fiddler dances off the stage with Tevye and the next scene begins. This
indicates that the story is going to spin out of control. So that is how the fiddler represents balance,
because the music spinning out of control represents them losing balance. The music that the fiddler
plays represents their balance. Which ties into the first quote I mentioned, where Tevye explains that
each person in Anatevka is a fiddler on the roof trying to scratch out a pleasant, simple tune without
breaking his neck. (Pg 2.) So, what the music sounds like is how balanced they are. If they are
beginning to fall off the roof, the music gets more intense because the fiddler is

Theories Of Aging
Why do people age? Over the ages people have wondered how do we age? Do our genes determine
our lifespan? Does damage to our DNA affect how long we live? There have been many theories
answering that one question and few are right and some still have to be proven. People aging isn t
magical, aging is scientific. Chemistry is behind aging.
The first theory is that we live as long as we do because our genes determine how long we live. This
means that we have a gene that tells our body how long we have to live. If this is true we could change
that gene and live longer than predetermined. For example that gene is a timer that is counting down,
imagine you could add time to the timer prolonging the time left. Different animals have proven this
theory to work. A type of worm can to 300 years old, which could support the first theory that genes
determine your lifespan.
The second theory is that over time our body and DNA receive damage until the point when our body
will not function anymore. This theory states that how long we live ... Show more content on

The Error Hypothesis refers to the errors, which occur in the chemical reactions in producing DNA,
RNA, or proteins because the metabolic system is not 100% accurate. Cell death is the reason for
unrepaired errors due to insufficient energy or nutrients. The Free Radical Theory refers to molecules,
which have a strong tendency to link to other molecules messing up their functions. They are
produced for metabolism and sometimes produced by accident if oxygen is always present. The Cross
Linkage Theory states that the aging of living organisms is due to the formation of bridges between
protein molecules in the DNA, which cannot be broken by enzymes that interferes in the production of
RNA by DNA. Can be caused by metabolism. The Brain Hypothesis refers to the aging is caused by a
breakdown in the homeostasis of the

Pangea The lost Super Continent
Our planet is carrying so much secrets while it rotates its axis, and revolves around the sun in elliptic
path. The biggest question man that ever faced is, why do living organisms have so much biodiversity
since they all come from a common ancestor? In order to answer this question, we have to see the
earth s past life. Rodina is the first supercontinent in our whole geological time period, and the
meaning of this word is homeland in Russian language. This Precambrian continent was the dominant
land mass for at least 350 million years until it started to tear apart because of the heat beneath this ...

It shows that present is the key for our past. Alfred Wegener, geophysist who proposed the concept of
Continental Drift in 1912, but it was not accepted by public when he released his work. On his period,
people were strongly believed in a God; therefore, they did not like any scientific approaches that are
questioning their beliefs to find the existence of our planet. However, today, people are become well
educated, and with the advancement technology, they accepted the fact. Evidences from rock
sequences, mountain ranges, glaciation, and fossils are favoring his hypothesis. For example, the plant
is known as Glossopteris found in South America, India, Africa, Australia, and Antarctica. It show that
these land masses were connected in the past. In addition, the modern continental fit is also supporting
the connection og Gondwana because the eastern part of South America s continental margin fits with
the western coast of Africa. When the surrounding changed, all living organisms began to adopt with
their new homeland by undergoes the process called Evolution . This process gave a rise to

Carboxylic Acid Lab Report
Carboxylic acid synthesis, reactions and pharmacological activity Carboxylic acid is organic chemical
compound that contain a functional group that is carboxyl group COOH which is made of hydroxyl
group and carbonyl group both attached to the same carbon which is attached to hydrogen atom or
alkyl group thus the general formula of the carboxylic acid is R COOH with R represent alkyl group
or a hydrogen atom. Carboxylic acid functional group is partly ionized in solution so it is a weak acid,
however it s acidity is considered as the chef chemical characteristic of it as it is generally more acidic
than the other organic compounds that contain hydroxyl group and more acidic than the common
organic functional groups but it is generally weaker than the common mineral acids such as
hydrochloric acid (HCl). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All acid derivates can be hydrolyzed by water to yield carboxylic acids, the condition of this reaction
are vary wildly from mild to severe conditions as it depend on the compound that is involved. The
easiest acid derivate to hydrolyzed is acyl chloride because it require only the addition of water,
carboxylic acid salts can be hydrolyzed simply at room temperature by the addition of water and
strong acid such as hydrochloride acid (HCl) on the other hand carboxylic nitriles, esters and amides
are less reactive and must be typically heated with water and a strong base or acid to be converted to
carboxylic acids, if a base is used then a salt is formed instead of an acid which can be easily
converted to an acid by the addition of hydrochloric acid, the amides are less reactive and require
more vigorous treatment and nitriles can be partly hydrolyzed under milder

  • 4. A Chapel By William Blake Analysis Essay Blake starts the poem with an almost idyllic or nostalgic atmosphere; he uses rhyme s that contains a very long E sound, which forces the reader to smile for proper pronunciation. The speaker is visiting the garden of his youth, which he realizes has been occupied by briars and tombstones; symbolizing death. The once open, green piece of land where he used to play, has been covered, and on it, a chapel has been erected in the middle of its space. The narrator s dismay cannot be fully recognized as the poem starts; the building of the chapel does not imply any specific disapproval, especially because the line, And saw what I never had seen, may be taken positively at first read. However, A Chapel was built in the midst Where I used to play on the green, hints at a more despondent feeling; the narrator is realizing that the field has been robbed of its innocence, which effectively begins to present the chapel as evil. The Chapel, in comparison to the garden, is completely unnatural; its shape is triangular and squarish, making it almost forced and artificial in its place on the natural field. In this way, Blake successfully conveys his antipathy towards the church and organized religion; he is presenting its position in the garden as one of complete irregularity, sadness, and gloom. Thinking of the garden of love in the biblical sense, it very much represents the Garden of Eden; where Adam and Eve once lived in innocence, without the guilt of love. Thinking of Blake s ... Local foods impact the local community, environment, one s health, and the overall society. Local food does not have a definite answer, but it does involve many subjects which are all distinguishable throughout the food system. Local food could also represent the distance from the farm to the table. If local food is distributed straight to a food hub, or a farmers market, or a grocery store, then the food could be considered local. If the food is distributed to a manufacturer, or a warehouse that delivers the food to a grocery store, then the food would not be considered local. The Importance Of Perfluorooctanoic Acid ( Pfoa ) In the 1950 s DuPont, an American industrial conglomerate, started producing Teflon at its Washington Works Plant near Parkersburg, WV; a couple of hours southeast of Columbus, Ohio on the Ohio River. Teflon is a non stick coating commonly found on water resistant clothing, cookware, among other things. One of the main byproducts of Teflon is perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), more commonly known as C8. DuPont s Washington Works plant released C8 into the air as well as the Ohio River until 2001, at which point abnormally high levels of the acid were detected in drinking water supplies throughout the river in Little Hocking, Ohio. The Little Hocking water system consists of five groundwater wells located immediately west (downstream) of the Ohio River and it took approximately 50 years for the C8 released into the Ohio River to reach the well fields. This is because contaminates were transferred via groundwater, which travels much slower than the river s surface water. However, once the C8 had infiltrated the wells, an estimated 70,000 people were exposed to contaminated water. Shortly after the harmful levels of C8 were detected in the well fields, exposure to C8 was linked to cases of kidney cancer, testicular cancer, ulcerative colitis, thyroid disease, pregnancy induced hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia. Although Full Metal Alchemist (FMA) is just a show, it shares some very interesting similarities to real alchemy, such as the concept of transmuting elements, creating a philosopher s stone , and the pursuit of immortality. The two also have some stark differences such as the process of creating a philosopher s stone, the purpose and uses of alchemy, and the political significance of alchemy in FMA. They both have some similarities that they share but they also remain very different in many ways. In the science of alchemy all alchemists practiced transmutation. They sought a way to change base metals into precious metals. In FMA the alchemist they had the power to change base metals to gold. This is a process that can be done in the real world. In order to change Lead (Pb) to Gold (Au) it requires particle acceleration to release three protons from lead therefore changing the atomic number of the atom from 82 to 79. Each character is connected to their differing settings, which in return creates the character s differing attitudes and psychological or moral traits. Heathcliff, Edgar Linton, and Catherine Earnshaw are the three characters in which their settings reflect their personalities, and therefore create their physical and moral traits. When first introduced to Heathcliff in the novel, he lacked hospitality and comfort towards Lockwood when he had come to visit him as a guest. Heathcliff, for the beginning parts of his life, stood in a lower social class than the people he lived around, and therefore created a dark attitude towards others out of anger and jealousy. In fact, the technique Vonnegut uses to conceal the truth is called an unreliable narrator. An unreliable narrator is when the reader cannot believe what the narrator is saying. Hispanics are one and a half times more likely to develop Alzheimer s disease than Caucasians. Most cases of Alzheimer s are caused from a mutation in one of the APP, PSEN1, or PSEN2 genes. When one of these three genes are reformed, a toxic fragment called amyloid beta peptides is created in the brain. The peptide will then produce clumps in the brain, called amyloid plaques, which is a characteristic of Alzheimer s disease. • 27. The Law Of The Old Testament Essay Many people, even if they are not very religious, are concerned about what is heaven, and if they are going to heaven. They want to know how to know God and how to be right with God, so that they do go to heaven. Let s discuss this very simply. Actually, this is a very difficult question to answer under the LAW of the Old Testament. But it is a very easy question to answer under grace in the New Testament. Keep in mind we shouldn t be living under the law of the Old Testament. We are judged by our belief in the gospel, not by the law (Rom 2:16). CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS VIEWS There are two ways to live a God type of life. THE FIRST is focused on self (in the Bible, Paul calls this self righteousness. This is where your focus is yourself, and you living a good life my means of some law, standards, rules, principles, methods (Phil 3:9). Living in this type of self righteousness he says we are ignorant of God s righteousness (Rom 10:3). THE SECOND is to live life by in God s grace and in his gift of righteousness (Rom 5:17). This is the gospel way, relying on the finished work of the cross of Jesus. WHAT IS LAW IN THE BIBLE? The first way I just described is the way of the Old Testament, which was a system of law. Everyone who lived by this system failed (Rom 3:10). Not one single person was able to live in this type of arrangement (Acts 15:10). By the time Jesus came there were close to 700 laws to follow. His central argument surrounds wars between nations, international affairs, but agrees that these greater wars must originate at the individual. The war was fought in the United States after seven Southern slave sates declared their separation to form the Confederate States of America. The Southern states were known as the Confederacy. But, the states that remained which were the Northern States were called the Union. The War was the deadliest war in American history; it killed approximately 620,000 soldiers. • 31. Elishade And Orsi Analysis When choosing a theorist that best describes religion with clarity and concise points, Clifford Geertz displays a superior definition in comparison to Eliade and Orsi. According to Geertz, religion is a system of symbols which acts to establish powerful, pervasive, and long lasting moods and motivations in men. He argues that religion creates a facade of a general order of existence, leading to seemingly factual/uniquely realistic moods and motivations. While all religions vary in viewpoints, prayer remains an axis connecting each to the others. More specifically, time and time again, those dealing with sickness and suffering have turned from medical healing to the powers of prayer. Geertz establishes the power of prayer as a symbol regarding religion and its importance within a variety of religious groups such as the Amish, Jewish, and Episcopalian views within Christianity. With the subtleties that Geertz defines within the functioning of symbols, religion can create different moods and motivations for believers. Despite the fact that worldview created through symbols varies by religion, there is a common core of religious vernacular within prayers that act as a symbol that connects different religions together. In the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Japan was a strong militaristic country that held a strong power and influence in the Asia Pacific region. The Japanese empire extended from the Dutch East Indies in the south to Manchuria in the north before the country surrendered on September 1945 to the Allies. The Allied Power led by General Douglas MacArthur had occupied Japan for several years before it was fully liberated in 1952. After the occupation, Japan s foreign policy was given back to its government. The country took the opportunity given to repair its relations with its neighbours. • 46. Tevye s Fiddler On The Roof The definition of a fiddler is as follows: a person who plays the violin, especially one who plays folk music. However, in the play Fiddler on the Roof , the word fiddler has so much more meaning. It means tradition, balance, and it is also a representation of the people of Anatevka. The fiddler in the play shows up fairly often. And every time it adds meaning to the play. At the very beginning, Tevye tells us that the fiddler is a representation of the people of Anatevka: But in our little village of Anatevka, you might say every one of us is a fiddler on the roof, trying to scratch out a pleasant, simple tune without breaking his neck. (Pg 2) And it is completely true. Throughout the book it is evident that Tevye especially struggles to keep his balance while he tries to keep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Speaking of balance, that s the other thing that the fiddler represents. When Tevye comes back from the bar, and after speaking to the constable (Pg. 54), the fiddler comes into the scene and ...he circles Tevye, and they dance off together. (Pg. 54). In the book, that s all it says. However, in the movie you can see the fiddler beckoning Tevye and they begin to dance off together, but the music slowly begins to spin out of control as the fiddler dances off the stage with Tevye and the next scene begins. This indicates that the story is going to spin out of control. So that is how the fiddler represents balance, because the music spinning out of control represents them losing balance. The music that the fiddler plays represents their balance. Which ties into the first quote I mentioned, where Tevye explains that each person in Anatevka is a fiddler on the roof trying to scratch out a pleasant, simple tune without breaking his neck. (Pg 2.) So, what the music sounds like is how balanced they are. If they are beginning to fall off the roof, the music gets more intense because the fiddler is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Theories Of Aging Why do people age? Over the ages people have wondered how do we age? Do our genes determine our lifespan? Does damage to our DNA affect how long we live? There have been many theories answering that one question and few are right and some still have to be proven. People aging isn t magical, aging is scientific. Chemistry is behind aging. The first theory is that we live as long as we do because our genes determine how long we live. This means that we have a gene that tells our body how long we have to live. If this is true we could change that gene and live longer than predetermined. For example that gene is a timer that is counting down, imagine you could add time to the timer prolonging the time left. Different animals have proven this theory to work. A type of worm can to 300 years old, which could support the first theory that genes determine your lifespan. The second theory is that over time our body and DNA receive damage until the point when our body will not function anymore. This theory states that how long we live ... The Error Hypothesis refers to the errors, which occur in the chemical reactions in producing DNA, RNA, or proteins because the metabolic system is not 100% accurate. Cell death is the reason for unrepaired errors due to insufficient energy or nutrients. The Free Radical Theory refers to molecules, which have a strong tendency to link to other molecules messing up their functions. They are produced for metabolism and sometimes produced by accident if oxygen is always present. The Cross Linkage Theory states that the aging of living organisms is due to the formation of bridges between protein molecules in the DNA, which cannot be broken by enzymes that interferes in the production of RNA by DNA. Can be caused by metabolism. The Brain Hypothesis refers to the aging is caused by a breakdown in the homeostasis of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The biggest question man that ever faced is, why do living organisms have so much biodiversity since they all come from a common ancestor? In order to answer this question, we have to see the earth s past life. Rodina is the first supercontinent in our whole geological time period, and the meaning of this word is homeland in Russian language. However, today, people are become well educated, and with the advancement technology, they accepted the fact. Evidences from rock sequences, mountain ranges, glaciation, and fossils are favoring his hypothesis. For example, the plant is known as Glossopteris found in South America, India, Africa, Australia, and Antarctica. It show that these land masses were connected in the past. In addition, the modern continental fit is also supporting the connection og Gondwana because the eastern part of South America s continental margin fits with the western coast of Africa. • 49. Carboxylic Acid Lab Report Carboxylic acid synthesis, reactions and pharmacological activity Carboxylic acid is organic chemical compound that contain a functional group that is carboxyl group COOH which is made of hydroxyl group and carbonyl group both attached to the same carbon which is attached to hydrogen atom or alkyl group thus the general formula of the carboxylic acid is R COOH with R represent alkyl group or a hydrogen atom. Carboxylic acid functional group is partly ionized in solution so it is a weak acid, however it s acidity is considered as the chef chemical characteristic of it as it is generally more acidic than the other organic compounds that contain hydroxyl group and more acidic than the common organic functional groups but it is generally weaker than the common mineral acids such as hydrochloric acid (HCl). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All acid derivates can be hydrolyzed by water to yield carboxylic acids, the condition of this reaction are vary wildly from mild to severe conditions as it depend on the compound that is involved. The easiest acid derivate to hydrolyzed is acyl chloride because it require only the addition of water, carboxylic acid salts can be hydrolyzed simply at room temperature by the addition of water and strong acid such as hydrochloride acid (HCl) on the other hand carboxylic nitriles, esters and amides are less reactive and must be typically heated with water and a strong base or acid to be converted to carboxylic acids, if a base is used then a salt is formed instead of an acid which can be easily converted to an acid by the addition of hydrochloric acid, the amides are less reactive and require more vigorous treatment and nitriles can be partly hydrolyzed under milder ...
