Essay About Work
Work can cause many issues with oneself and society. There can be a inner struggle in someone if they
don t like their job. Society can cause the discussion of jobs to become a controversial topic. In the
poems Lady In The Pink Mustang by Louise Erdrich, The Restaurant Business by James Tate, and So
Mexicans Are Taking Jobs From Americans by Jimmy Santiago Baca, the authors use divisions and
conflicts to make readers see a bigger picture.
In the poem The Lady in the Pink Mustang by Louise Erdrich the speaker tells the story of a women in
a pink mustang whos job seems to be working as a prostitute. Erdrich wants the readers to get a sense
that the women does not care much for her job but continues to do it. It can be understood that ...

None of these poems have a hidden meaning and each author had a significant way of showing the
meaning. Erich and Baca follow the template of poetry. Whereas, Tate uses the template of poetry in
story form. In all of these works readers can find that the speakers have an argument. In The Lady In
The Pink Mustang the speaker explains in the end that she is not proud of her job but she has to make
a living somehow and until she runs out of money she will do what she has to. In The Restaurant
Business Tate parallels to Erdrich by having the restaurant owner pose the argument that though he
works for his own sadness, if he choices to leave the business he loses his seat of having a title and
even though he hates to work that s the only bit of happiness he has left. Lastly the speaker in Baca s
poem constructs a real life argument and turns the whole piece of work in a political poem by arguing
the discussion of jobs in America. All of these works show that work is hard but it is real and
sometimes it is not a realistic job and not everyone will agree with the job title or job

Minuet In Modernism
A Minuet in Modernism: A Study of Modernism as a Radical Form of Literature, superimposed with
the exploration of the literary prowesses of Virginia Woolf and Katherine Mansfield in juxtaposition
In his seminal lecture on Modernism in Architecture at McGill University School of Architecture on
21 October 2000, Arthur Erickson espoused Modernism as an artistic movement that released
[society] from the constraints of everything that had gone before with a euphoric sense of freedom
(Erickson, 2000). Modernism, as an artistic movement, is defined as a genre that aimed to transcend
and subvert the limitations of traditional literary conventions of the Romantic, Realist and Victorian
literary movements, and eagerly championed for new and innovative experimentation in both form
and style (Cooper, pg. 9). Flowered into Society by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

depicted in a continuous flow uninterrupted by objective description or conventional dialogue , Prof.
John Lye suggests that the vestiges of Impressionism in modernist literature contributed significantly
to an intimate presentation of the texture or process of structure of knowing and perceiving (Lye,
1997). Albert Einstein s theory of relativity renounced the concept of universal time and theorised that
experience is both a subjective and an intrapersonal experience. Einstein s concept of relativity
coincided with the Modernist narrative, and helped attribute to new and abundant artistic forms

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this paper is to tell the reader how children are most influenced psychologically by war
and that the psychological effects are more severe than those of physical, emotional, and social
influences. Researches that were found in this projects includes: book, journal, websites, professional
member of the APA, et al. Through further reading on the research, it has come to the conclusion that
children face more psychological effects than others and that it can lead to post traumatic stress
disorder (PTSD) and other symptoms and disorders such as depression or anxiety. Research has also
found that children can experience symptoms of these disorders by being directly or indirectly
influenced by war.
INTRODUCTION Fear, Hostility, Bloodshed, Battle. These are some of the few words that come to
mind when people hear the word war . People say that war is a mean to better the world or to protect
the lives of others, when in reality it is just another way to torment the lives of other. Everyone is a
victim in times of war, but the group that suffers from it the most are children. Many believe that
children are more affected socially, physically, and emotionally by war rather than suffering
psychologically through Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other disorders.
Children rely on empathy and attention from their

Film Analysis Of The Romantic Genre And Movie Rocky
Genre theory is used to study films and put them into a classification so that audiences know what
type of film it is before they see it. Genres are categories based on the story of the film, sometimes the
actors and actresses, or even the directors. All films fall under a genre or sub genre category. Romantic
Comedy is an example of a genre which is light hearted, humorous story involving people in love,
sometimes overlapping with subgenres such as screwball comedy teen comedy, or gross out comedy. (
Goodykoontz Jacobs, 2014, table 4.1). This paper will focus on the romantic comedy genre and movie
Rocky. It will take a better look at the specific conventions of this genre and how this movie fits the
gangster genre. Romantic comedy films create a comic climate through a series of cues to the
audience: subject matter is treated as trivial, jokes and physical humor make fun of events, and
characters are protected from harm (Grindon Leger (2015). Romantic comedy films usually have a
couple that meet and fall in love in some way throughout the movie. In the movie Rocky Sylvester
Stallone as Rocky meets Adrian at the pet shop and realizes she is the women he wants to be with.
Rocky is a want to be boxer at the time who wants to be a professional boxer and knows Adrian s
brother from the gym. When Rocky sees Adrian through the window of the pet shop he uses the
excuse that he buys a fish and asks her out. Adrian agrees and she is a very bashful lady, she dresses
and looks very homely. Rocky and Adrian starting dating and she supports him through his boxing
career. The couple falls in love and they get married. Adrian starts dressing nice and gets contacts to
the point you see her transform into a beautiful lady by the end of the film. The genre of Romantic
comedy is pairing two individuals into a couple with some comedy which Rocky proves to have. The
comedy part would be where Adrian asks Rocky why he boxes and he says because he can t dance or
sing . Throughout the film there are little conventions to show the comedy. The film Rocky the first
convention would be the setting. In the film it is set in 1976 in the low income part of Philadelphia.
This shows the Rocky and Adrian started out

The Rocket Book Report
In the Set Up, we learn the things that need fixing on the team. Rocket (voice of Bradley Cooper)
doesn t get along with anyone, especially Peter. Gamora (Zoe Saldana) has captured her sister Nebula
(Karen Gillan), who wants to kill her. Peter wants a romantic relationship with Gamora, yet yearns to
know who his father is. Even Yondu (Michael Rooker), the Ravager who raised Peter, is in a state of
stasis=death. Accused of breaking the Ravager code, he faces rejection from his mentor, and his crew
begins to accuse him of growing soft.
The Catalyst sets the A Story in motion, a MacGuffin that allows us to get to the heart of the real story.
Rocket steals some valuable batteries from the Sovereign, and the Guardians are pursued until a
mysterious individual saves them. Upon landing on a nearby planet, they learn that the man is Ego ...

As they spend time in their prison cell, the two are forced to converse, opening themselves up in
vulnerability, temporarily letting down their guard. Yondu demonstrates that he has a soft side, and
Rocket begins to trust him, finding a new ally. Later, the two will help each other transform.
Meanwhile, Peter has passed from his thesis world of seeking his father and has entered his antithesis
world of discovering what it is like to have that relationship. As Ego bonds with Peter, teaching him
about his new powers during the Fun and Games, Peter can t help but feel overjoyed. Much like a
child, he plays a game of catch with his father, an experience that almost seems too good to be true.
Of course, it is too good to be true. During the Midpoint, in which Peter thinks he has everything he
wants, Gamora questions Ego s motives, causing Peter to lash out at her. He s happy to have finally
found his place in a family, but Gamora tells him that he s already been a part of one. The Bad Guys

Reflective Essay On Group Diversity
Through my work in groups, I have had to adjust my feedback and leadership styles based on the
different cultures of my group members. Every organization has its own unique spoken and unspoken
rules that define the culture. Culture is often simply stated as, the way we work around here. Cultures
are formed and change through a variety of environmental events, leadership, and experiences (Weiss,
Tilin, Morgan, 2014, p. 153). I need more here maybe?
When bringing students together from different backgrounds and cultures, it is anticipated to run into
some cultural diversity. While these differences are expected to be met with professionalism in all
settings, according to Weiss, Tilin, and Morgan (2014) we have a tendency to interpret the behavior of
others through the lens of our own habits of thought or personal bias (pp. 191 192). Upon acceptance
into the radiography program, I had a preformed stereotype or prejudice of my classmates. Because it
is a prestigious and competitive program, I assumed each member would strive to go above and
beyond to produce optimum results. My personal cultural bias was believing everyone would set those
high goals and do whatever it takes to achieve them. I have found in my classroom groups that some
members only do the bare minimum. They are sometimes unprepared and look toward others for
results. This impacted group communications because someone had to lead the group and bring more
insight when others were not contributing. It also made members do more than their fair share of
work. Some members had to take on more to make up for the lack of effort shown by others.
My group works together very well when providing feedback. We established that we all thrive from
constructive criticism and even welcome it. Feedback is important for all groups because knowing
what was good and bad about a performance or assignment is how you learn from your experiences.
By institutionalizing feedback strategies, power sharing becomes the responsibility of leaders as well
as members who provide each other with constructive opinions and supportive advice (Weiss, et al.,
2014, p. 141). So far my experiences in providing and receiving feedback within my group have been
mostly positive.

Farenheit 451 Paper
Faith is the heroism of the intellect (Charles Henry Parkhurst). In Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury,
the protagonist, Montag, is an intellect. In the society he lives in, books are illegal. The government
feels threatened by people with the knowledge that books promote. Montag has the infamous job of a
fireman, an odd twist on our society s fireman. Fireman in this time start fires rather than stop them
and the fuel for the fires are books. The government attempts to suppress thinkers; people who
question orders given, people who question things that most just ignore. Montag s job easily disguises

Either he sacrificed everything he has worked for and let Faber lose his life too or he killed Beatty.
Beatty s death symbolizes the end of Montag s life in that society. From there on out, Montag had to
hide from the police and anyone who could potentially turn him in. His decision to kill Beatty portrays
him as heroic because he made a tough decision that most wouldn t make. Montag s decision to kill
Beatty makes him heroic also because he saved Faber from being arrested. Montag killed a good
friend to save Faber, a man he has known for a week or two. As a true hero, he saw which person was
more important to him and he made the tough decision to kill one of them. He stopped at no cost to
stand up for what he believed in and that makes him truly heroic. Along with the end of his
relationship with Beatty, Montag also ruined his relationship with his wife. Let me alone, said
Mildred. I didn t do anything (52). Montag and his wife, Mildred, have been struggling lately with
their marriage. Montag has been doing everything he possibly can to keep it together and Mildred isn t
even making an effort. Montag finally breaks down and shows her all the books that he has been
coveting in the air duct in their house. Mildred doesn t know how to react when she sees the books.
She wishes that Montag wouldn t drag her into his own mess. She does not want to be involved with
whatever he schemes. This scene symbolizes Montag s heroism

Explain Why the Arab Invasions of 710 and 711 Were so...
Explain why the Arab invasions of 710 and 711 were so successful. In answering this question we
must first appreciate the difficulty historians face in discovering the real truth of the early Arab
invasions, a fact well demonstrated in the varying estimates of Arab invasion forces (ranging from
1,700 9000 in current publications). Scant contemporary evidence exists beyond a short narrative
present in a Spanish chronicle of 754, a vital surviving Islamic administrative document of the time,
and some archaeological remains. Our knowledge of the invasions is largely founded on the works of
later Islamic historians, the Ajbar Machmua text for example and the works of Ibn Idhari and al
Maqqari. Unfortunately there are fewer Christian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The existence of a rival claimant caused dangerous divisions throughout the kingdom and in Akhila s
demesne land of Tarragona and Narbonne coins were minted without the king s image, a clear
measure of defiance. It is also reported in some sources that during the invasion Akhila conspired with
the Arabs to depose Roderic. Some go as far as to say that during the final battle a wing of Roderic s
army loyal to Akhila turned on him in the midst of the fighting. Whether this is true can hardly be
proven but something catastrophic must have happened for the King s army supposedly far larger than
Tarik s (Estimates 24,000 30,000 ) to suffer such a devastating defeat. Many historians support the
idea that elements within the Visigothic nobility gave assistance to the invaders probably as a means
of removing Roderic. It is unlikely however that they foresaw the long term implications of the
invasion and the extension of Muslim presence in Iberia. It is argued that as well as the problems the
succession dispute posed, the very fabric of Visigothic society itself was weak. It is suggested that the
Visgothic nobility of the time, who had placed themselves above the native Hispano Roman
population in terms of rights and privileges, were suffering a backlash from the lower sections of
society. Incidents of rebellion had increased as had the number of slaves deserting their Lords. Many
runaways turned to outlawry and as a consequence

How Does Running Impact My Life
Run Forest, Run! is what we hear people say when we run around the community. I really quite enjoy
running on the cross country team for my high school. Running has been a part of who I am for a very
long time. As a little kid I would always like to run around my neighborhood chasing people or just
running for fun. I was just really active as a kid. What really impacted my life was my first year in
middle school. It all started in sixth grade and after sixth grade my passion for running grew. All three
years of running in middle school were a success especially in eighth grade when I qualified for the
state finals. First of all, in sixth grade I attended Gompers Jr. High and I had no idea what sports were

Supernova Research Paper
A supernova is a stellar explosion that happens in the galaxy. This can have as much energy as our Sun
or any regular star. These can be seen throughout the entire galaxy, but it is hard for us to see because
of the amount of dust that covers it blocks our view. Johannes Kepler was the last person to observe
the last Supernova in our Milky Way galaxy. He discovered that phenomenon in the year 1604. A
supernova is created when there is a change in a core or center of a star. There are only two ways that
a change can happen in a star. The first way it can change happens in binary star systems. Those are
two stars that orbit at the same point. A carbon oxygen white dwarf takes away matter from another
star. Subsequently the white dwarf will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the star actually starts to run out of nuclear fuel some of the mass flows into the star s core.
When the core becomes too heavy it cannot take its own gravitational force. Which causes the core to
collapse, and as it collapses it results in a giant supernova. Many people worry that the sun will
become into a supernova. That has no chance of happening because the sun does not have enough
mass to become a supernova. Supernovas are very interesting things that happen in our universe. Even
though they can only burn for a short period of time, it has the potential to tell scientists a lot about
what is going on. There is a specific form of supernovas that has shown scientists that we all live in a
universe that keeps expanding. Which means the universe is growing at an increasing rate. Many
scientists however believe that supernovas have a huge role in distributing elements throughout the
entire universe. As the star begins to explode it shoots debris and elements all over space. The
elements that we find here on Earth are created in the core of the star. As these elements move onto
different parts of the universe it helps form new planets and

Comparing Plato s Republic, More s Utopia, and Gurney s...
Plato s Republic, More s Utopia, and Gurney s Dinotopia
Throughout history, mankind has struggled to lead better lives and improve their society for future
generations. What do we continuously attempt to improve? What kind of changes are we trying to
institute? In other words, what is an ideal society? Many people have very diversified views about a
perfect civilization. In Plato s Republic, Sir Thomas More s Utopia, and James Gurney s Dinotopia,
three imaginary societies are described, each with its own peculiarities and highlights. Various aspects
of the nations described in these three novels, including their respective economies, governments, and
social structures, will be compared and contrasted.
A crucial aspect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also applies the use of funds within the country, similar to many other nations in the world today.
Now, we will proceed to the most important part of any human institution the government. In Utopia,
the political hierarchy is based on the household: every city has 6000 households, each containing ten
to sixteen adults. For every thirty households, one Styward, or District Counselor, is elected. One
Bencheater, or Senior District Counselor, is elected for every ten Stywards. Every town has one
mayor, who is elected by secret ballot by the Stywards. Every three days the Bencheaters have a
meeting with the mayor to discuss public affairs and, rarely, to settle disputes. There are rules
concerning the debate of propositions. For example, no resolution can be debated on the day that it s
first proposed... Otherwise someone s liable to say the first thing that comes into his head, and then
start thinking up arguments to justify what he has said, instead of trying to decide what s best for the
community (More 74).
The Dinotopian government resembles The Republic in that there is one main leader. The mayor of
Waterfall City, which is a hereditary position, wields supreme authority over the entire island. In
addition, a senate acts to pass laws and settle disputes, similar to the Stywards and Bencheaters in
Utopia.

English Verb Forms Of English Grammar
According to ELT and Greebaum s The Oxford English Grammar (1996) English verb forms can be
systematized under two huge categories, each of them includes sub categories of forms.
1.Inflected forms:
1.1. Base Form of verbs: In English grammar a regular English verb has only on principal part, from
which all following verb forms can be derived. This form is available in dictionary and is called base
form. For example, base form is paint, the inflected forms are: paint, paints, painted, painting. Hence
we can notice, that the base may be called the bare infinitive and the another common way to referring
to verbs is combination with to + infinitive, for example, to paint (Greenbaum, S., 1996, Pp.118 121)
1.2. Irregular verbs have three principal parts (because the simple past and past participle are
unpredictable). For instance, the verb write with the base form write, past form wrote, and past
participle written, the remaining forms (writes and writing) are derived regularly (Greenbaum, S.,
1996, Pp.126 128)
1.3. Also there are such verbs as do, say and have that additionally have irregular third person singular
present tense forms.
1.4. That is, the copular verb be is irregular (forms: be, am, is, are, was, were, been and being),
1.5. On the opposition modal verbs (can and must) are defective verbs and are being used only in
limited number of forms (Greenbaum, S., 1996, Pp.125 129).
Another important part of verb form analysis is grammatical base form or plain form

American Pie Is A Song That Made A Huge Impact On Americans
American Pie is a song that made a huge impact on Americans in any time period. Don McLean sang
about the events from the nineteen fifties through nineteen seventies after Buddy Holly s death. Many
events from those years are controversial. McLean also stated how music changed from these decades.
Rock n Roll used to be popular since the fifties. American Pie by Don McLean describes the transition
in Rock n Roll music from the iconic history of the mid nineteen hundred. Nonetheless, many critics
assume the first line of the chorus relates to McLean s relationship with the Miss America contestant.
According to the Understanding American Pie website, the catchy phrase, So bye bye, Miss American
Pie, refers to, the beauty queen Miss America (Fann 3). During McLean s successful career, he dated
Miss America, which Americans said that she is as American as an apple pie. She represents the
simplicity in American history that carried meaning. Miss America does not correlate with the theme
of the song. The transformation of Rock n Roll music was impacted by different elements instead of
Miss America. The lyric, So bye bye, Miss American Pie, that Americans assume is the Miss America
never cause the change of events and music. Primarily, McLean wrote this song after his Rock n Roll
musicians who crashed in the plane accident. Based on the Genius website, Don McLean quoted a

The place where a person lives often provides insight into their life. As implied by the title of the
novel The House on Mango Street, the novel placed a strong focus on the places where people lived
and how they related to the people themselves. Two characters houses stand out in this novel in
particular: the houses belonging to Esperanza and Sally. Through the description of the appearance of
the two houses and how each person feels while inside their house, Cisneros created a striking contrast
between the two houses.
One of the most prominent places mentioned in the novel is Esperanza s dream house. Although

Tides and the Moon
I was recently tasked with examining the relationship between the Earth s moon and the Earth s tides.
I took that to mean literally: how are the tide levels of Earth s bodies of water affected by the Moon?
When approaching this question I want to do so with the scientific method in mind. The scientific
method refers to a body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or
correcting and integrating previous knowledge (Goldhaber amp; Nieto, 2010). The scientific method
is a way to ask and answer scientific questions by making observations and doing experiments. It is
also a good tool when we are searching for cause and effect relationships in ... Show more content on

Spring tides are about the same height whether at New or Full Moon, because the tidal bulge occurs
on both sides of the Earth, the side toward the Moon (or sun) and the side away from the Moon (or
Sun). They will not be equally high because the distance between the Earth and Sun, and the Earth and
Moon both vary and so will their tide producing effectiveness. The highest Spring tides occur when
the Moon is at its closest to the Earth this is called a Perigean Tide (Ninderthana, 2011).
The moon s point of closest approach or perigee is approximately 362,570 kilometers from Earth, and
its apogee, or the farthest point in the moon s elliptical orbit, is approximately 405,410 kilometers
from Earth (Image: 1. p. 7). If the lunar perigee occurs when the Moon is between the Sun and the
Earth, it produces unusually high Spring tides. When lunar perigee occurs on the opposite side from
the Earth than where the Sun is located it produces unusually low, Neap Tides (Image: 2. p. 7). The
high, High Tide is called the Proxigean Spring Tide, and it occurs not more than once every 1.5 years
(Ninderthana, 2011).
In the published work by Fergus J. Wood, Tidal Dynamics, Wood stated that, because of the
gravitational nature of the interaction between the Earth, the Moon, and the water on the Earth, there
is a curious amplification event called evection that occurs when the Moon is at its closest perigee
distance called its proxigee . The Moon draws even closer to the Earth than

James Joyce Research Paper
James Augustine Aloysius Joyce is well known for his many extraordinary Literature pieces. Still, to
this day he is celebrated throughout Ireland as being one of the most influential figures in Irish history.
Among his literary works, the most recognized and famous literature pieces were Dubliners, A Portrait
of an Artist as a Young Man, Ulysses, and Finnegans Wake. Very early in life, Joyce struggled with his
identity and self importance. Furthermore, Joyce publicizes these identity struggles and adolescence
challenges in his autobiographical novel, A portrait of an Artist as a Young Man. This novel introduced
his newly formed technique called the stream of consciousness. This well developed technique
indirectly allows the audience to distinguish the thoughts and feelings of the main character, Steven
Daedalus; this fictional character is an actual representation of himself. Stephen Daedalus reappears in
Joyce s masterpiece Ulysses, but depicted with more sophisticated character traits. As a young adult,
James Joyce established his own set of principles in which to follow throughout life. These Principles

Complexity Theory
INTRODUCTION Brain manages the body functions, and process the information that allows us to
act on a changeable external environment. To fulfill these functions, during evolution, brain acquired a
large computing power, and specialized functions, such as cognition, emotion and consciousness. With
approximately 86 billion neurons (Herculano Houzel, 2009), each neuron with approximately
hundreds to thousands of synapses has a great structural complexity, and with its non linearity, it
presents a rich dynamic. It is also a physical system composed of neurons that communicate with each
other through electrical discharges. With that in mind, it is no coincidence that the main model used in
neuroscience to describe the behavior of neurons was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the question, yet unsolved, is how the brain binds these distinct neural representations and
allow us to have the notion of one single object. This problem becomes more apparent when we
present to the brain more than one object, for example, a red triangle, and a yellow square. How given
the features triangle, square, red, and yellow, to avoid an incorrect combination?
If we take a computer system like a PC this would be no problem, because each information would be
allocated in a specific memory address. However in a distributed system, such as the brain, the
solution is not trivial. Moreover it is not a matter of finding a mechanism that works across a generic
distributed system, but one that is appropriate for the brain. It is important to note that when I say that
every sensory feature would be identified with a specific assembly of neurons, it does not mean that
these neurons need to be located next to each other. An intuitive solution would be to imagine the
existence of dedicated assembly connecting the different features that are represented in distinct parts
of the brain. Other alternative would be the presence of specialized synapses connecting distinct
feature assemblies. However, these options were discarded since these solutions would involve
creating specialized circuits in the brain. As a consequence of this inflexibility, the demand for
memory storage and processing would be greater than that the brain

The Star Spangled Banner Essay
Asking most American s today regarding the national anthem of the United States of America the clear
answer would be The Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key, but most Americans are unaware of
the great debate between the two patriotic songs America, the Beautiful and The Star Spangled Banner
in regards of the suitable national anthem. There is no doubt that controversy shrouds the beloved
national anthem, as issues of racism, slavery, and the militaristic tone arise after each passing century.
However, in my opinion, the national anthem should not be changed as it is a part of America. Not
only is the Star Spangled Banner a song that is a piece of history of the land of the free, it is also a
song that has deep roots in this country, and is a part of America s heritage.

In fact, as a young child, we are taught respect when we stand up, look at the flag with a hand in the

also used to lift the spirits of Americans all over the world. In events, such as the Gulf War where
Whitney Houston united a whole stadium whilst singing the national anthem, and even after 9/11

Lactase Experiment
The results of the experiment vary from what is reported by previous studies (Curry, 2013, Enattah et
al., 2002, Tishkoff, 2007). The experiment was conducted on students currently in the Biology 225
course in Schenectady, NY. The class was primarily composed of individuals whom are descendants
of Europe. Therefore, an assumption was made that by in large, the percentage of lactase persistent in
the class that was expected was going to be near 95% (Curry, 2013). However, such a high percentage
was not found. Of the class, only 49.3% of individuals were determined to possess a genotype that
results in a phenotype of lactase persistence. Conversely, 40.8% of the class was found to carry the
genotype lct/lct which results in the phenotype of lactase non persistence. Therefore, the results are
nearly 50% off from what we expected initially. This could be for numerous reasons, but perhaps the
assumption should not have been made. The results fit much better when compared to the world
average occurrence of lactase persistence. Curry notes that out of all individuals over the age of 8
years old, only 35% still possess the ability to digest and breakdown the lactose in dairy products
(2013). The results do fit closer to the world average, therefore indicating that the assumption may
have been wrong, the results of the experiment still do not necessarily indicate whether the total
population of students in the Spring 2016 Biology 225 class fits the societal model where there is a

Destruction Of The Neurons Responsible For Involuntary...
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also called Lou Gehrig s disease, is a
neurodegenerative motor disease that results in the destruction of the neurons responsible for
involuntary muscle movement (NINDS 2014). Patients are determined to have ALS if they have both
upper motor neuron disease and lower motor neuron disease (Gordon 2011). Many people that have
been diagnosed with ALS are seen in wheelchairs or if the person is in the early onset of ALS, using
other walking devices. This is because in 65% of patients, ALS begins with weakness in the arms,
legs, and body, therefore this results in the loss of capability to walk (Gordon 2011, A.D.A.M. 2012).
Most patients live for approximately three to five years after symptom onset and usually die when the
muscles in the chest stop working, which causes their heart and lungs to stop functioning as well
(Gordon PH 2011, A.D.A.M. 2012). This is caused by muscles weakening until atrophy and
fasciculations occur, leading to the brain being unable to control voluntary movement (NINDS).
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is classified as a motor neuron disease (NINDS).
The nervous system is made up of neurons that take in information through our senses and then
processes it to the rest of the body(IQWig 2012). After this, motor neurons send a signal from the
nerve cell in the brain, to the brain stem, down the spinal cord, and cause a reaction in the muscular
system (NINDS 2014). An example of this would be

condition in which the heart has become weak and cannot pump enough blood to meet the need for
oxygen rich blood required by the vital organs of the body, less blood is pumped out of the heart to the
organs and tissues in the body and pressure in the heart increases, it does not mean the heart has

The physician will order lab tests such as electrolyte panel, creatinine and albumin levels to determine
if there are any abnormalities with the liver and kidney functions, a chest x ray may be performed to
determine if the heart is enlarged and an Electrocardiogram to see if the patient has ventricle
thickening, abnormal heart rhythm or even a heart attack. Once these tests have been completed the
physician may order a MUGA scan or cardiac catheterization to determine the patient ejection fraction
or EF, but most common practice is to order an echocardiogram, which is less invasive, to determine
the ejection fraction. (Association, American Heart, 2013) Ejection fraction, usually stated as a
percentage, determines how well the heart pumps with each beat. A normal heart will pump a little
more than half the heart s blood volume with each beat. Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF),
measures the amount of blood pumped out of the left ventricle of the heart with each contraction.
Right ventricular ejection fraction (RVEF), measures the amount of blood pumped out of the right side
of the heart to the lungs for oxygen. A normal EF ranges from 55 77% and will be lower when the
heart muscle has been damaged by cardiomyopathy, heart attack or other disease that have weakened
the heart muscle. An ejection fraction of 40% usually confirms the diagnosis of heart failure and an
ejection fraction of less than 35% puts the patient at risk of life

Sigmund Freud s Life Of Psychology And Psychoanalysis
My life is interesting only if is related to psychoanalysis said Sigmund Freud, a pioneer in the world of
psychology and psychoanalysis ( Sigmund Freud Life and Work. ). Freud had a passion for the mind.
Not just the mind of the average man but also the minds of the sick and tortured souls. He built his life
around knowledge and manipulation of others minds to give them peace and reach understanding.
Though he has been condemned as a cult leader and a fraud, Sigmund Freud is undisputedly the most
influential person ever to grace the world of psychology and psychoanalysis (Hunt 166). There were
social, economic, and cultural influences on Sigmund Freud which affected his lifetime achievements.
Sigmund Freud was born on May 6th 1856 in Freiberg, Moravia to his father, Jacob Freud, and his
mother Amalia Freud. Sigmund Freud s father was a cloth and textile salesman. His father had been
married two previous times and had two children born before Sigmund. Sigmund was his mother s
first child and she loved him dearly, and he her. Freud recounted that he got his sense of humor and
skepticism from his father where he received his beloved sense of sentimentality from his mother (
Sigmund Freud Life and Work. ). Sigmund was in the Austro Hungarian ruling class where he was
from and his primary spoken language was German. Freud considered himself an oddity in that he was
a sentimental German person, and relished in the fact that he was his mother s favourite child. Amalia

Stroke Rehabilitation
INTRODUCTION
Stroke is an acute cerebral vascular event, which leads to problems with brain functions.
Each year, about 500,000 individuals in Europe experience stroke, which is considered the third
leading cause of death in Western countries after cardiovascular diseases and cancer
(Pendlebury, Giles, Rothwell, 2009; Sudlow Warlow, 1997). This catastrophic and often unexpected
event has a wide range of physical and psychological long term consequences on both patients and
relatives (Wolfe, 2000).
The long term effects of a stroke and the consequent form of physical and cognitive rehabilitation
depend on type, severity, and location of the occlusion. It is possible to identify two basic categories
of impairment or disabilities: motor disability, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thanks to this new technology, patients can be evaluated through daily activities safely and without
the necessity to use real environments that of course are not always available inside the hospital. VR
assessment and rehabilitation could be more engaging and consequently more effective compared to
classic methods. Many authors have recognized the importance of VR in the field of neuropsychology
and developed protocols that surround this technology (Bohil, Alicea, Biocca, 2011; Riva,
Bacchetta, Cesa, Conti, Molinari, 2003, Rose, Brooks, Rizzo, 2005; Riva, 2009; Schultheis
Rizzo, 2001; Bohil et al., 2011; Riva, Waterworth, Waterworth, 2004; Schultheis Rizzo,
2001; Riva Gaggioli, 2009). Referring back to Tsirlin and colleagues (Tsirlin et al., 2009), the authors
highlighted three main issues described below.
The first issue concerned the need to develop an ergonomic instrument of analysis to match the
patients physical problems with the tool. Post stroke patients may suffer from postural disorders or
hemiparalysis. These patients need a wheelchair, which can limit the use of some types of
technologies. Another critical point that emerged from this review concerns

UFOs: Are They Real?
UFOs have been one of the greatest mysteries of all times. From the beginning of time humans have
seen UFOs. The real mystery is whether or not a UFO is a ship from another planet. There have been
numerous reports of flying saucers. Many of them have been able to be explained and some were even
elaborate hoaxes. But still, there are a few out there that are unexplainable and could quiet possibly be
visitors from somewhere else in the universe. Even the government has admitted after long studies
that some of the reported cases seem to lean towards extraterrestrials. UFO stands for unidentified

The next morning a team of Royal Air Force scientists were sent to the site. They found three holes in
the ground in a perfect equilateral triangle and in the middle was a piece of scorched earth. There was
also a line on all the nearby trees about 4 feet off the ground (Kettelkamp 19). The scientists used a
Geiger counter and found extremely high radiation readings from the site. The next night the object
appeared again in a nearby field. When investigated the site was similar to the one from the previous
night. The official report stated that the object that showed up on the radar and was later seen in
Rendlesham Forest could not be identified (Kettelkamp 24).
Sightings of UFOs have not been limited to just on Earth. There have also been many sightings by
astronauts in space. Gemini 7 photographed what appeared to be two flying saucers. Apollo 8 may
have photographed what was a giant spaceship near the moon. On their next orbit the object had
disappeared. Apollo 11 may have also spotted a UFO near the moon. Possibly the most famous and
mysterious sighting is the picture taken by the Viking satellite. The photo shows what looks to be a
giant face on Mars. The face looks remarkably similar to the face on the Sphinx in Egypt. Some
believe it could be a giant monument from an alien race that once lived on Mars (Kettelkamp 7).
Photographic analysis could not identify any of the reported objects.

Reflection About The Taz Prayer
At the Taizé prayer, the place with the altar and candles was inviting; first the silence for about 10
minutes, then the music played, followed by long pauses for praying and reading the scriptures
together. The prayer around the Jesus cross statue in the center was about to begin when a person
placed the cross on the ground and next to the cross a pillow for people to kneel and express their
burdens. After about ten minutes, the prayer around the cross continued, but this time the cross statue
was moved to a table. People freely approached the cross statue at the table and placed their heads on
it or kissed the cross. After a few more prayers were said aloud, then the altogether final prayer
followed by a song was the end of the prayer. From this opportunity of praying in a group, I learned
about the gifts and challenges of prayer while reflecting in silence and listening to the meditative
music.
The Taizé prayer is an opportunity to reflect on your day or your life and pray with others together.
This was my first time in a Taizé prayer, I have never heard about it before this class. The prayer is
centered on a worship group that between silence, songs, prayers, and bible readings, people stand up
to acknowledge the cross statue in the center by kneeling in front or kissing the statue. You are not
alone, you spend the hour with people of different churches or religious beliefs either in silence,
singing, praying and worshipping.
During the prayer, I learned that the peace

Police Accountability vs. Police Independence Essay
Introduction
The debate regarding police independence versus police accountability has been hotly contested since
at least the 1960s.1 At the heart of the debate are questions relating to the degree and manner of
oversight to which police forces should be subjected, while maintaining the independence of those
polices forces to carry out their duties free from undue political (or other) interferences. This essay
examines the principles underlying the independence of the office of constable , the notion of

Responsible government
Whereas the principle of the independence of the office of the constable serves to ensure that police do
not become the slave of any state or interest group, the principle of responsible government can be
usefully conceived of as ensuring that police remain the servants of the public at large. Contrary to the
idea that the police office is not a servant of anyone, save of the law itself 6, responsible government
and police accountability measures aim to ensure that police forces are answerable to the very
communities which vest in the police force the right and responsibility for upholding the law.
In practice, police accountability measures are usually tied into extensive governance frameworks,
laws and procedures, including: administrative mechanisms for handling citizen complaints; civil
actions and criminal prosecutions in the courts; the exclusion of improperly obtained evidence in

Communication in Law Enforcement
Communication in Law Enforcement

Ray Kirby
How can communication be improved in an organization that is structured in a traditional bureaucratic
form? To understand how communication can improve within a traditional bureaucratic criminal
justice system, one must understand the structure and how communication is dispersed within the
respective criminal justice agencies. It is also important to realize that each agency or criminal justice
organization has policy and procedures governing how communication is transmitted. (Stojkovic,
Stan, Kalinch, David, Klofas, 2012) Within law enforcement agencies information is passed either up
or down the chain of command. Meaning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, better understanding of these barriers by top level managers within the organization will
allow for better formalization of communications. These barriers include: 1. Preconceived ideas 2.
Denial of contrary information 3. Us of personalized meanings 4. Lack of motivation or interest 5.
Non credibility of the source 6. Lack of communication skills 7. Poor organizational climate 8. Use of
complex channels 9. Communication gap (Stojkovic, Stan, Kalinch, David, Klofas, 2012)
The understanding of those barriers to which prevent information from being received can allow for
better communication throughout the department.
How might computerized communication be utilized to improve the effectiveness of communication
in a bureaucratic organization? Computerized communication within law enforcement has and will
continue to improve law enforcement as the technology is implemented and utilized within these
agencies. The utilization of such devices as mobile data terminals (MDT s) has given the average
patrol officer access to enormous amounts of information. Even in 1979, Computer and technology
were said to have the potential to aid in criminal justice activities through the rapid communication of
accurate and complete information, and perhaps a more rational approach to decision making (Colton,
1979. P.19). Now in 2014, the computers and

Foreign Investment And Expanding Trade Relations
In today s developing economies the competition to attract foreign investment and expanding trade
relations has become the foremost economic strategy to satisfy the quest of the society for rapid
economic growth. The failure of inward looking economic policies to change the trajectory of decades
long stagnated economies forced countries to adopt outward looking trade policies and market
economy. As a result, attracting foreign investment and promoting exports emerge to be the core
economic and trade strategies. Foreign investment is believed to provide multidimensional benefits to
the host economy both directly and indirectly. The main direct benefit is the capital inflow that fills the

The rapid industrialization of developing countries sought to bring about economic convergence
among economies depends on the possibility of free flow production knowledge and information. At
the center of this argument is the externalities that emanate from foreign invested as well as exporting
firms.
The spillover effects that arise from foreign direct investment (FDI) has amassed an extensive body of
literature in the past two decades. Most of these studies focused on the productivity and knowledge
gains towards domestic firms. Such spillovers are thought to arise as a result of horizontal and vertical
linkages between foreign and domestic firms. The early studies citep{blomstrom, Kokko, sjoholm,
haddad, aitken} who follow the pioneering work of cite{caves} focuses on externalities that affect the
productivity of firms within the same industry. A review of such studies by cite{gorg} pointed out that
the evidence for intra industry productivity spillover is weak or at best mixed.
Unsatisfied with the lack of empirical evidence to support horizontal spillovers the research started to

The Enlightenment Period In America
Out of this week s reading, the one thing that I came to admire was the enlightenment period. The
Enlightenment period began because of small groups. Men would meet in coffeehouses and the
women would meet in salons. People could slow down, talk and dream. This caused a movement of
people taking their dreams and ideas to a reality. This movement sparked the future of the world. This
began the Scientific Revolution and the Glorious Revolution. With havening a movement of this scale,
it could not be contained to one place. It expanded to France and eventually the Americas. The
advancement in technology cased the western world to expand and lead to the form of the Americas.
People began to travel based on their enlightenment and need for freedom.

The American s part in the Battle of Iwo Jima
Before World War Il, Iwo Jima had no importance to Japan. Once World War Il began, it became an
important stepping stone for America to conquer Japan. The United States wasn t planning on being
apart of World War Il, until the Japanese provoked them into retaliation. Japan planned to attack the
U.S. in retaliation for the oil. The U.S. Refused to give Japan more oil, then Japan bombed Pearl
Harbor, which killed thousands of soldiers. The day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, President
Roosevelt declared war on Japan. Germany and Japan were joined together as the Axis Powers.
Germany then declared war on the U.S. and World War Il was started.

Hurricane Devastation Of The Hurricane
Abstract Hurricane Katrina was considered as one of the worst hurricanes ever recorded in the history
of the United States. It was the sixth strongest Atlantic hurricane ever and the third strongest on record
that had reached the United States. According to Brinkley (2006), Katrina was the eleventh tropical
storm, fifth hurricane, third major hurricane, and second Category 5 hurricane of the 2005 Atlantic
hurricane season. The hurricane occurred on August 29th, 2005, and had a massive physical impact on
the land and to the residents of New Orleans City (Galea Brewin, 2007). Before the hurricane, there
was massive destruction of the wetlands beside construction of canals and these increased the erosion
rates in the lands. After the floods, much of the city s water was contaminated leading to the loss of
the aquatic lives and indigenous plants.
Introduction Arguably, the hurricane Katrina effect was estimated to cover about 90,000 square miles;
affecting over eighty percent of the city s land space (Jacob et al., 2008). The disaster led to the
displacement of over eight hundred thousand New Orleans citizens and directly affected over one
million families (Kirk, 2009). These exceptional properties and life loss was recorded in

What Defines Human Nature And The Hierarchy Of Human...
What defines human nature and the hierarchy of human relations? In this paper, I will argue that
Beauvoir s view that society constructs man, maleness, and the masculine as the human standard
(rendering woman, femaleness, and the feminine deviant and defective) is flawed. Although Beauvoir
s evidence was compelling I had several issues with some of the finer details such as what term
designates a human being, that a woman s body is considered disadvantaged, and that female nature is
defective. I also disagree with her statement that woman can t think of herself without man, woman is
only a symbol of sex to man, and that man and woman are the Self and the Other.
Firstly, Beauvoir argues that man represents the positive and the neutral while woman represents only
the negative. I feel that this statement is saying that woman is only what man are not. By making this
assumption I infer that Beauvoir feels woman is only considered when man has reached the limits of
their reach. However, I believe that man the line separating man and woman is inconclusive in its
stance. When looking at what is considered masculine and what is considered feminine, there are
some relatable similarities. For example, the work ethic of a man at work is similar to the work ethic
of a woman at home. A man would be expected to complete his work load in a proficient manner and
bring home money to the family. A woman would be expected to care for the family and the home in a
proficient and timely

A Gradual Decline in Prejudice between Places and People...
A Gradual Decline in Prejudice between Places and People in North and South Through her
characterizations of the two main characters in Margaret Hale and John Thornton, Elizabeth Gaskell
develops a transition from prejudice to love. She reveals their inner most thoughts through an
omniscient third person narrative to allow the audience to empathise with their feelings. The
Characters develop through dialogue because they dispute over the North and South divide and try to
distance themselves from each other. But despite their prejudices love prevails because of the actions
of good will shown by Margaret, which John interprets to be feelings of love. The audience is satisfied
that they have found a general cause which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mrs Hale had a preliminary regard for the town which was confirmed upon seeing the gloom of the
town. You can t think the smoky air of a manufacturing town, all chimneys and dirt like Milton
Northern, would be better than this air, which is pure and sweet Margaret detests the cultural aspects
of Milton; she does not like the wallpaper or the architecture. The people in the town would make,
loud laughs and jests, particularly aimed at all those who appeared to be above them in rank or station
, Margaret has been alienated by the attitude of the townsfolk, and there is that element of prejudice
because they can see by the way she dresses she is not of their class. When Mr Thornton is introduced
to Margaret there is an initial prejudice, as the narrator says, He almost said to himself that he did not
like her, before their conversation ended. For Margaret the feeling is mutual, as she demonstrates by
speaking condescendingly of John to her mother. She believes Mr Thornton s education is responsible
for him being in trade, why he can t help that poor fellow . She talks in a pitiful manner of Mr
Thornton being in trade, because of her prejudice towards tradesmen. The Thornton and Hale family
symbolize the divide of North and South in Gaskell s novel. Mrs Hale criticises her husband s new
job, as she is still bitter that they had to move from the luxury of

Hobo House Spider
House spider: Was there an aha ? If so, what was it? Was it too obvious, not obvious enough, or about
right, any way? There are two realizations needed to solve this puzzle. The first is that all the sections
are anagrams for sicknesses. The other is that each disease is missing a letter, to be used for the final
solution. We figured out the connection to diseases, but were thrown of by the missing letters,
unfortunately the first few we solved were plausible disease names with and without the missing letter.
Did it have flavortext? If so, was it too helpful, too obscure, or about right, and why? If it was not
great, do you have any suggestions for improvement? There was flavortext, we were able to figure out
the answers were diseases based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My conclusion on the rules is that the solver must form a complete loop that does not touch or
intersect itself. The line must make a corner in the squares before and after passing through an orange
line, and in one of the squares adjacent to a brown line. Also, the loop must pass through all orange
and brown lines. I was able to solve the 5x5 and 8x8 puzzles, but I did not figure out the aha to
relating the puzzle to the lower grid to get a solution. In other words, figuring out the upper puzzle
was relatively obvious, whereas how to connect it to the final solution was not obvious

Society can cause the discussion of jobs to become a controversial topic. In the poems Lady In The Pink Mustang by Louise Erdrich, The Restaurant Business by James Tate, and So Mexicans Are Taking Jobs From Americans by Jimmy Santiago Baca, the authors use divisions and conflicts to make readers see a bigger picture. In the poem The Lady in the Pink Mustang by Louise Erdrich the speaker tells the story of a women in a pink mustang whos job seems to be working as a prostitute. None of these poems have a hidden meaning and each author had a significant way of showing the meaning. Erich and Baca follow the template of poetry. Whereas, Tate uses the template of poetry in story form. In all of these works readers can find that the speakers have an argument. In The Lady In The Pink Mustang the speaker explains in the end that she is not proud of her job but she has to make a living somehow and until she runs out of money she will do what she has to. In The Restaurant Business Tate parallels to Erdrich by having the restaurant owner pose the argument that though he works for his own sadness, if he choices to leave the business he loses his seat of having a title and even though he hates to work that s the only bit of happiness he has left. Lastly the speaker in Baca s poem constructs a real life argument and turns the whole piece of work in a political poem by arguing the discussion of jobs in America. • 6. Film Analysis Of The Romantic Genre And Movie Rocky Genre theory is used to study films and put them into a classification so that audiences know what type of film it is before they see it. Genres are categories based on the story of the film, sometimes the actors and actresses, or even the directors. All films fall under a genre or sub genre category. Romantic Comedy is an example of a genre which is light hearted, humorous story involving people in love, sometimes overlapping with subgenres such as screwball comedy teen comedy, or gross out comedy. ( Goodykoontz Jacobs, 2014, table 4.1). This paper will focus on the romantic comedy genre and movie Rocky. It will take a better look at the specific conventions of this genre and how this movie fits the gangster genre. Romantic comedy films create a comic climate through a series of cues to the audience: subject matter is treated as trivial, jokes and physical humor make fun of events, and characters are protected from harm (Grindon Leger (2015). Romantic comedy films usually have a couple that meet and fall in love in some way throughout the movie. In the movie Rocky Sylvester Stallone as Rocky meets Adrian at the pet shop and realizes she is the women he wants to be with. Rocky is a want to be boxer at the time who wants to be a professional boxer and knows Adrian s brother from the gym. Rocky and Adrian starting dating and she supports him through his boxing career. The couple falls in love and they get married. Adrian starts dressing nice and gets contacts to the point you see her transform into a beautiful lady by the end of the film. The genre of Romantic comedy is pairing two individuals into a couple with some comedy which Rocky proves to have. The comedy part would be where Adrian asks Rocky why he boxes and he says because he can t dance or sing . Throughout the film there are little conventions to show the comedy. • 8. Reflective Essay On Group Diversity Through my work in groups, I have had to adjust my feedback and leadership styles based on the different cultures of my group members. Every organization has its own unique spoken and unspoken rules that define the culture. Culture is often simply stated as, the way we work around here. Cultures are formed and change through a variety of environmental events, leadership, and experiences (Weiss, Tilin, Morgan, 2014, p. 153). I need more here maybe? When bringing students together from different backgrounds and cultures, it is anticipated to run into some cultural diversity. While these differences are expected to be met with professionalism in all settings, according to Weiss, Tilin, and Morgan (2014) we have a tendency to interpret the behavior of others through the lens of our own habits of thought or personal bias (pp. 191 192). Upon acceptance into the radiography program, I had a preformed stereotype or prejudice of my classmates. Because it is a prestigious and competitive program, I assumed each member would strive to go above and beyond to produce optimum results. My personal cultural bias was believing everyone would set those high goals and do whatever it takes to achieve them. I have found in my classroom groups that some members only do the bare minimum. They are sometimes unprepared and look toward others for results. This impacted group communications because someone had to lead the group and bring more insight when others were not contributing. It also made members do more than their fair share of work. Some members had to take on more to make up for the lack of effort shown by others. My group works together very well when providing feedback. We established that we all thrive from constructive criticism and even welcome it. Feedback is important for all groups because knowing what was good and bad about a performance or assignment is how you learn from your experiences. By institutionalizing feedback strategies, power sharing becomes the responsibility of leaders as well as members who provide each other with constructive opinions and supportive advice (Weiss, et al., 2014, p. 141). In answering this question we must first appreciate the difficulty historians face in discovering the real truth of the early Arab invasions, a fact well demonstrated in the varying estimates of Arab invasion forces (ranging from 1,700 9000 in current publications). Scant contemporary evidence exists beyond a short narrative present in a Spanish chronicle of 754, a vital surviving Islamic administrative document of the time, and some archaeological remains. The existence of a rival claimant caused dangerous divisions throughout the kingdom and in Akhila s demesne land of Tarragona and Narbonne coins were minted without the king s image, a clear measure of defiance. It is also reported in some sources that during the invasion Akhila conspired with the Arabs to depose Roderic. Some go as far as to say that during the final battle a wing of Roderic s army loyal to Akhila turned on him in the midst of the fighting. Whether this is true can hardly be proven but something catastrophic must have happened for the King s army supposedly far larger than Tarik s (Estimates 24,000 30,000 ) to suffer such a devastating defeat. Many historians support the idea that elements within the Visigothic nobility gave assistance to the invaders probably as a means of removing Roderic. It is unlikely however that they foresaw the long term implications of the invasion and the extension of Muslim presence in Iberia. It is argued that as well as the problems the succession dispute posed, the very fabric of Visigothic society itself was weak. It is suggested that the Visgothic nobility of the time, who had placed themselves above the native Hispano Roman population in terms of rights and privileges, were suffering a backlash from the lower sections of society. Incidents of rebellion had increased as had the number of slaves deserting their Lords. Many runaways turned to outlawry and as a consequence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These can be seen throughout the entire galaxy, but it is hard for us to see because of the amount of dust that covers it blocks our view. Johannes Kepler was the last person to observe the last Supernova in our Milky Way galaxy. He discovered that phenomenon in the year 1604. A supernova is created when there is a change in a core or center of a star. There are only two ways that a change can happen in a star. The first way it can change happens in binary star systems. • 14. English Verb Forms Of English Grammar According to ELT and Greebaum s The Oxford English Grammar (1996) English verb forms can be systematized under two huge categories, each of them includes sub categories of forms. 1.Inflected forms: 1.1. Base Form of verbs: In English grammar a regular English verb has only on principal part, from which all following verb forms can be derived. This form is available in dictionary and is called base form. For example, base form is paint, the inflected forms are: paint, paints, painted, painting. Hence we can notice, that the base may be called the bare infinitive and the another common way to referring to verbs is combination with to + infinitive, for example, to paint (Greenbaum, S., 1996, Pp.118 121) 1.2. Irregular verbs have three principal parts (because the simple past and past participle are unpredictable). For instance, the verb write with the base form write, past form wrote, and past participle written, the remaining forms (writes and writing) are derived regularly (Greenbaum, S., 1996, Pp.126 128) 1.3. Also there are such verbs as do, say and have that additionally have irregular third person singular present tense forms. 1.4. That is, the copular verb be is irregular (forms: be, am, is, are, was, were, been and being), 1.5. On the opposition modal verbs (can and must) are defective verbs and are being used only in limited number of forms (Greenbaum, S., 1996, Pp.125 129). The scientific method refers to a body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge (Goldhaber amp; Nieto, 2010). The highest Spring tides occur when the Moon is at its closest to the Earth this is called a Perigean Tide (Ninderthana, 2011). The moon s point of closest approach or perigee is approximately 362,570 kilometers from Earth, and its apogee, or the farthest point in the moon s elliptical orbit, is approximately 405,410 kilometers from Earth (Image: 1. p. 7). However, the question, yet unsolved, is how the brain binds these distinct neural representations and allow us to have the notion of one single object. This problem becomes more apparent when we present to the brain more than one object, for example, a red triangle, and a yellow square. How given the features triangle, square, red, and yellow, to avoid an incorrect combination? If we take a computer system like a PC this would be no problem, because each information would be allocated in a specific memory address. However in a distributed system, such as the brain, the solution is not trivial. Moreover it is not a matter of finding a mechanism that works across a generic distributed system, but one that is appropriate for the brain. It is important to note that when I say that every sensory feature would be identified with a specific assembly of neurons, it does not mean that these neurons need to be located next to each other. An intuitive solution would be to imagine the existence of dedicated assembly connecting the different features that are represented in distinct parts of the brain. Other alternative would be the presence of specialized synapses connecting distinct feature assemblies. However, these options were discarded since these solutions would involve creating specialized circuits in the brain. As a consequence of this inflexibility, the demand for memory storage and processing would be greater than that the brain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The experiment was conducted on students currently in the Biology 225 course in Schenectady, NY. The class was primarily composed of individuals whom are descendants of Europe. Therefore, an assumption was made that by in large, the percentage of lactase persistent in the class that was expected was going to be near 95% (Curry, 2013). However, such a high percentage was not found. Of the class, only 49.3% of individuals were determined to possess a genotype that results in a phenotype of lactase persistence. Conversely, 40.8% of the class was found to carry the genotype lct/lct which results in the phenotype of lactase non persistence. Therefore, the results are nearly 50% off from what we expected initially. This could be for numerous reasons, but perhaps the assumption should not have been made. The results fit much better when compared to the world average occurrence of lactase persistence. Curry notes that out of all individuals over the age of 8 years old, only 35% still possess the ability to digest and breakdown the lactose in dairy products (2013). The results do fit closer to the world average, therefore indicating that the assumption may have been wrong, the results of the experiment still do not necessarily indicate whether the total population of students in the Spring 2016 Biology 225 class fits the societal model where there is a ... • 25. Destruction Of The Neurons Responsible For Involuntary... Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also called Lou Gehrig s disease, is a neurodegenerative motor disease that results in the destruction of the neurons responsible for involuntary muscle movement (NINDS 2014). Patients are determined to have ALS if they have both upper motor neuron disease and lower motor neuron disease (Gordon 2011). Many people that have been diagnosed with ALS are seen in wheelchairs or if the person is in the early onset of ALS, using other walking devices. This is because in 65% of patients, ALS begins with weakness in the arms, legs, and body, therefore this results in the loss of capability to walk (Gordon 2011, A.D.A.M. 2012). Most patients live for approximately three to five years after symptom onset and usually die when the muscles in the chest stop working, which causes their heart and lungs to stop functioning as well (Gordon PH 2011, A.D.A.M. 2012). This is caused by muscles weakening until atrophy and fasciculations occur, leading to the brain being unable to control voluntary movement (NINDS). Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is classified as a motor neuron disease (NINDS). The nervous system is made up of neurons that take in information through our senses and then processes it to the rest of the body(IQWig 2012). After this, motor neurons send a signal from the nerve cell in the brain, to the brain stem, down the spinal cord, and cause a reaction in the muscular system (NINDS 2014). (Emory healthcare, 2013) CHF is a medical condition in which the heart has become weak and cannot pump enough blood to meet the need for oxygen rich blood required by the vital organs of the body, less blood is pumped out of the heart to the organs and tissues in the body and pressure in the heart increases, it does not mean the heart has stopped working. Once these tests have been completed the physician may order a MUGA scan or cardiac catheterization to determine the patient ejection fraction or EF, but most common practice is to order an echocardiogram, which is less invasive, to determine the ejection fraction. (Association, American Heart, 2013) Ejection fraction, usually stated as a percentage, determines how well the heart pumps with each beat. A normal heart will pump a little more than half the heart s blood volume with each beat. Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), measures the amount of blood pumped out of the left ventricle of the heart with each contraction. Right ventricular ejection fraction (RVEF), measures the amount of blood pumped out of the right side of the heart to the lungs for oxygen. A normal EF ranges from 55 77% and will be lower when the heart muscle has been damaged by cardiomyopathy, heart attack or other disease that have weakened the heart muscle. An ejection fraction of 40% usually confirms the diagnosis of heart failure and an ejection fraction of less than 35% puts the patient at risk of life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He built his life around knowledge and manipulation of others minds to give them peace and reach understanding. Though he has been condemned as a cult leader and a fraud, Sigmund Freud is undisputedly the most influential person ever to grace the world of psychology and psychoanalysis (Hunt 166). There were social, economic, and cultural influences on Sigmund Freud which affected his lifetime achievements. Sigmund Freud was born on May 6th 1856 in Freiberg, Moravia to his father, Jacob Freud, and his mother Amalia Freud. Sigmund Freud s father was a cloth and textile salesman. His father had been married two previous times and had two children born before Sigmund. Sigmund was his mother s first child and she loved him dearly, and he her. Freud recounted that he got his sense of humor and skepticism from his father where he received his beloved sense of sentimentality from his mother ( Sigmund Freud Life and Work. ). Each year, about 500,000 individuals in Europe experience stroke, which is considered the third leading cause of death in Western countries after cardiovascular diseases and cancer (Pendlebury, Giles, Rothwell, 2009; Sudlow Warlow, 1997). This catastrophic and often unexpected event has a wide range of physical and psychological long term consequences on both patients and relatives (Wolfe, 2000). Reflection About The Taz Prayer At the Taizé prayer, the place with the altar and candles was inviting; first the silence for about 10 minutes, then the music played, followed by long pauses for praying and reading the scriptures together. The prayer around the Jesus cross statue in the center was about to begin when a person placed the cross on the ground and next to the cross a pillow for people to kneel and express their burdens. After about ten minutes, the prayer around the cross continued, but this time the cross statue was moved to a table. In this paper, I will argue that Beauvoir s view that society constructs man, maleness, and the masculine as the human standard (rendering woman, femaleness, and the feminine deviant and defective) is flawed. Although Beauvoir s evidence was compelling I had several issues with some of the finer details such as what term designates a human being, that a woman s body is considered disadvantaged, and that female nature is defective. I also disagree with her statement that woman can t think of herself without man, woman is only a symbol of sex to man, and that man and woman are the Self and the Other. Firstly, Beauvoir argues that man represents the positive and the neutral while woman represents only the negative. I feel that this statement is saying that woman is only what man are not. By making this assumption I infer that Beauvoir feels woman is only considered when man has reached the limits of their reach. However, I believe that man the line separating man and woman is inconclusive in its stance. When looking at what is considered masculine and what is considered feminine, there are some relatable similarities. For example, the work ethic of a man at work is similar to the work ethic of a woman at home. A Gradual Decline in Prejudice between Places and People in North and South Through her characterizations of the two main characters in Margaret Hale and John Thornton, Elizabeth Gaskell develops a transition from prejudice to love. She reveals their inner most thoughts through an omniscient third person narrative to allow the audience to empathise with their feelings. The Characters develop through dialogue because they dispute over the North and South divide and try to distance themselves from each other. But despite their prejudices love prevails because of the actions of good will shown by Margaret, which John interprets to be feelings of love. The audience is satisfied that they have found a general cause which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mrs Hale had a preliminary regard for the town which was confirmed upon seeing the gloom of the town. You can t think the smoky air of a manufacturing town, all chimneys and dirt like Milton Northern, would be better than this air, which is pure and sweet Margaret detests the cultural aspects of Milton; she does not like the wallpaper or the architecture. The people in the town would make, loud laughs and jests, particularly aimed at all those who appeared to be above them in rank or station , Margaret has been alienated by the attitude of the townsfolk, and there is that element of prejudice because they can see by the way she dresses she is not of their class. When Mr Thornton is introduced to Margaret there is an initial prejudice, as the narrator says, He almost said to himself that he did not like her, before their conversation ended. For Margaret the feeling is mutual, as she demonstrates by speaking condescendingly of John to her mother. She believes Mr Thornton s education is responsible for him being in trade, why he can t help that poor fellow . She talks in a pitiful manner of Mr Thornton being in trade, because of her prejudice towards tradesmen. The Thornton and Hale family symbolize the divide of North and South in Gaskell s novel. • 45. Hobo House Spider House spider: Was there an aha ? If so, what was it? Was it too obvious, not obvious enough, or about right, any way? There are two realizations needed to solve this puzzle. The first is that all the sections are anagrams for sicknesses. The other is that each disease is missing a letter, to be used for the final solution. We figured out the connection to diseases, but were thrown of by the missing letters, unfortunately the first few we solved were plausible disease names with and without the missing letter. Did it have flavortext? If so, was it too helpful, too obscure, or about right, and why? If it was not great, do you have any suggestions for improvement? There was flavortext, we were able to figure out the answers were diseases based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My conclusion on the rules is that the solver must form a complete loop that does not touch or intersect itself. The line must make a corner in the squares before and after passing through an orange line, and in one of the squares adjacent to a brown line. Also, the loop must pass through all orange and brown lines. I was able to solve the 5x5 and 8x8 puzzles, but I did not figure out the aha to relating the puzzle to the lower grid to get a solution. In other words, figuring out the upper puzzle was relatively obvious, whereas how to connect it to the final solution was not obvious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
