The document provides an evaluation of improvements made from a preliminary school magazine project to a final music magazine project. The student felt their final products showed significant improvement in appearance and audience appeal. Issues identified with the preliminary magazine's front cover included a lack of background, simple text, inconsistent coloring, dull title, and uneye-catching coverlines. The student addressed these issues by making the title bolder, organizing bold coverlines, using an eye-catching main image and background. Similar issues with the contents page were also improved upon, such as adding more images and sub-headings to guide the audience.

How My School Magazine Improved
1. Evaluation: Question 7
Looking back at your preliminary
task, what do you feel you have
learnt in the progression from it to
the full product.
2. Looking back at my school magazine, I feel
that my final media products for my music
magazine show a significant improvement. I
have learnt how to make my products look
much better and also how to appeal to my
target audience. I am overall pleased with
the outcome of my final products for my
music magazine and I think they represent
the Rock genre of music well and therefore
appeal to my target audience.
3. The problems with the front cover of
my school magazine are as followed:
-There is no background so the
magazine itself does not get the
attention from the audience.
- The text used is simple and does not
vary meaning that nothing stands out to
the audience
- The colour scheme is not constant, as it
changes halfway down the page making
it seem less organised.
- The title is not bold and does not stand
out from the coverlines therefore
becomes boring and dull.
- The main coverline is not eye-catching
so does not attract any of the audience.
4. The ways in which I have improved my
front cover for my music magazine are:
-I have made the title bold enough to
stand out against the coverlines.
Although the colour is still the same, I
made it stand out with a different font
to get the audiences attention
-The coverlines are organised and the
titles are bold so the buyer can easily see
what bands are in that month’s issue.
-Direct address and the right attitude
from the main image means that it will
be the main selling point of the
magazine as this will really draw in the
audience’s attention.
- I used a simple, yet eye-catching
background which really makes my
main image stand out.
5. Problems with the contents page of my
school magazine:
- The colour scheme is not the same as
the one on the front cover which makes
it seem unprofessional
-There are not enough coverlines for the
whole of the magazine suggesting the
rest of the magazine is not very good
either.
-There is too much space around the
whole page which makes the magazine
look a lot more boring
-The “Regulars” and “Features” are
hard to distinguish from each other as
they do not stand out
- There is only one image used on the
page which could suggest the rest of the
magazine will be just as bad, therefore a
lose in interest from the audience.
6. The ways in which I have improved
my contents page for my music
magazine are:
-There is more than one image on the
page, giving the audience a sneak
preview in what is in the magazine
and is also eye-catching.
-The content of the magazine has
been organised into smaller sub-
headings making it easier for the
audience to find what they are
looking for.
- I made sure I had way more
features and regular this time around
to fill up all the space that was left,
without making it feel too cramped.
- I also did not use a colour
background because I think it would
have looked confusing with all the
images as well.
