Nations With A System Of Liberal Democracy
1. Nations With A System Of Liberal Democracy
Nations with a system of liberal democracy have a hope to achieve a structure of government that
benefits all citizens equally (Callan, p. 1, 2004). However, countries that claim to be liberal
representative democracies (such as the United States, New Zealand, and the Britain) have failed to
be representative of all the citizens. Due to historical occurrences, traditional gender roles, and lack
of activism from the elite (white men in positions of power), women have been denied their natural
human rights and, as a result, their full potential to become active in the political sphere. As
mentioned by Anne Phillips in Engendering Democracy, "[s]ex remains a significant...indicator of
where and how much we are politically involved..." (99). This ... Show more content on

By assuming "men" and "citizens" can be used interchangeably, we are excluding women from
documents that directly talk about equality and freedom in liberal democracies. This shows how
separation of men and women rank is ingrained in our society. This is not limited to the United
States. Many leading liberal democracies, such as the United Kingdom, have documentation that
uses the word "men" when referring to the nation's citizens (Bill of Rights, 1689). Today, there lies a
separation of the capabilities of men and women in the minds of some. This is based on a false
understanding of gender roles, where women must 'live up to' their role of a procreating mother. As
Anne Phillips explains in Engendering Democracy society has programmed young minds to think it
is the women's duty to "...[collect] the children and [make] the tea..." and this truly is "a vital
political concern" (Phillips, 97). The issue lies in status quo, which the elite continue to apply in
nations worldwide. By training young minds to believe they have a specific role to live up to, we are
resisting citizen's natural growth and are instead demanding citizens to follow what has always been
done. Women are told to complete household and family duties while men are told to go into the
workforce and bring in an income and support his family. This system of patriarchy allows men to
become

3. Importance Of Liberal Arts Education
Before beginning my college journey, I had considered what I expected out of a liberal arts
education. My number one reason for attending Central was for their education program. My goal
for the future, however shallowly thought out it may have been, was to be a good teacher, and make
a difference in children's lives. Because of Central's Teacher Academy program, their high
standards, and excellent reputation in the field, I knew this was the place that would help me attain
those goals. However, since we have read "Only Connect", "This is Water" along with "Claiming an
Education," I realize there is so much more Central can offer me if I claim it for myself. Taking all
this into consideration, I have reevaluated and added precise ... Show more content on

William Cronon in his "Only Connect" article broke down what a liberal arts education should
provide me and every other student in order to be the change. The ten characteristics are the
following: they listen and they hear, they read and they understand, they can talk with anyone, they
can write clearly and persuasively and movingly, they can solve a wide variety of puzzles and
problems, they respect rigor as a way of seeking truth, they practice humility, tolerance, and self–
criticism, they understand how to get things done, they nurture and empower the people around
them, and only connect. With the goal of being a good teacher, I am going to emphasize a couple the
characteristics from the list above that I want to master in order to be the best teacher my students
can have.
The first characteristic he mentions is "they listen and they hear". An educated student should be
able to block out the noise and business swarming around them, and concentrate on the person they
are listening to. Not only should I be able to follow along when a student is talking, but understand
the deep value of the student as a human being. When the importance of another's life is considered,
the importance of what they are saying increases. I want to be a teacher who takes time for her
students to tell them about their weekend or a problem at home. I want to be able to listen and hear
what they are saying.

5. Education And Liberal Arts Education
A study in general education (liberal arts) affects different aspects of my development both
physically and mentally. A liberal arts education has shaped the form I conceive and return over
individual circumstances. After attending class and reading all the benefits of a liberal arts education
it has shaped the direction I held regarding a Liberal Arts education. A liberal arts education has
shifted the way I study and the process I go about completing my school work. Furthermore, from
the manner I organize my day to the way I organize my goals, a liberal arts education really shaped
the way I do my everyday schedule. The liberal arts class changed me into a greater adapted, more
efficient and effective member of society. A liberal arts education taught me the value and efficiency
of critical and independent thinker. Within the real world, an individual who can show
aforementioned qualities is higher valued than the person who cannot. With a liberal arts education,
you are more fit to acquire and exhibit these skills. A liberal arts education are intended to broaden
the general knowledge and experiences of the students, and the class accomplished just that. The
class affected my mentality about school and the way I see the real world.
The meaning and purpose of a liberal arts education are to achieve education further than merely
college core, but also to prepare you for future occupations. A liberal arts education introduces
profession opportunities and builds a foundation

7. The Rise of a Liberal Democracy
In the article Fareed wrote he defines democracy as simply a government with free and fair
elections. It is in essence rule of the majority, so if the majority is filled with ill intent then that is the
direction of the government. Basically an unfiltered voice for the masses; and it is not suitable by
itself. Liberal Democracy is described as what people think of today when they here of Democracy;
it is a government with a system of values/rights built in to protect the people from themselves. It
has basic rights like freedom of speech, press, religion, etc. written out so the Government cannot

The beginning of the Civil Rights movement started in 1948 when president Truman signed
Executive order number 9981 which stated that the armed forces had to treat all races, colors
religion and national origin the same. Ensuring that finally African Americans would finally be
treated equal while risking their lives for their country. Then in 1954 Brown v. Board of Education
went to the Supreme Court, and the court ruled that segregation was unconstitutional, allowing for
desegregation of the United States. The ruling annulled the previous Plessy v. Ferguson, which
stated separate but equal facilities; the courts said when separate it is almost certainly not equal. On
December 1st 1945 Rosa Parks Refused to move to the back of the bus to let a white person sit, she
was arrested and her arrest inspired the Montgomery bus boycott. The African American society
refused to ride the buses, and the president of the Montgomery Improvement Association led the
boycott, his name was Martin Luther King Jr. While the bus boycott would last for a year until the
buses were desegregated, King would preach the method of civil disobedience and non–violent
protests, just like Gandhi used in India to gain freedoms for his people. In 1957 the Governor of
Arkansas had to send in the National Guard to integrate a white high school in Little Rock Arkansas.

9. Liberal Arts In Public Education
Imagine a world with no books. No novels, no magazines, no newspapers. Imagine a world with no
entertainment. No movies, no television, no news. Imagine a world where we don't know our past.
We as humans don't know where we came from or what we have done. Imagine a world with no art.
It is difficult to envision such an existence as more than a fairy tale, yet this is seemingly what the
American society desires. When the American public education invests all of its time and money
into science, technology, engineering, and math careers (STEM), it is actively devaluing the careers
and subjects that the American culture depends on. Liberal arts classes– the language, arts and social
sciences–are forced to take a back burner while STEM classes assume ... Show more content on

Colleges do put equal emphasis on liberal arts and STEM when they are looking at a student's
academic resume which is one of the reasons why they are crucial. A liberal arts credit could be
what makes or breaks a student's acceptance letter. Colleges require four years of English Language
Arts, the same amount that is required of math and at some colleges even more than is required of
science (since some colleges only require three years of science). Yet it is deemed less important.
Colleges don't require a technology or engineering course, yet they do require a fine arts course, two
social sciences courses, and two years of a foreign language course. All of which are liberal arts and
still liberal arts is presumed insignificant. But that's just the raw academics to get accepted into
college. What if the college wants a personal essay? That would require the knowledge of an
English course. One cannot simply just write down their ideas and have it become a perfect essay. It
has to be formulated/edited in ways that are taught in English classes, and sophisticated vocabulary
has to be used in order to not sound immature. What if the college wants an academic resume? Yes

This is the reason why liberal arts education has been incorporated in the curriculum that is being
taught in school over the years. When students have mastered all the skills and abilities that they
need to know to help them in today's modern society. They need to know how to use those skills for
effective critical thinking and they also have to know that for one to solve a problem effectively, it
requires strong analytical and creative processes, which can be develop through liberal arts
education. When students plan to continue their education, the best thing for them to do, especially
if they are not college ready, is to start out at a community college. Community college has a lot to
offer for instance, they have smaller interactive classrooms with well qualified professors who will
teach their students how to challenge their minds and promote further development before they
transition into a four year university, where courses are a little more challenging and students have
to learn how to be more independent. "One challenge is aligning trends with course credits; free
course and massive open online courses, as well as prior learning experience, are all relatively new
approaches to education that educators and policymakers have to address when discussing college
credits and transferring credit, according to the AACC brief" (States Improve on Transfer Issues, but

13. Liberal Democracies Vs. Liberal Democracy Essay
Liberal democracies, are defined as the system in which governmental body operate under the
principle of individual rights and work to protect them regardless of religion, sect, ethnicity etc.
Liberal democracies are thought to be secular in nature and generally do not account for religions or
ethnicities rather they promote a certain nationalistic perspective throughout the state. Laws are
made through majority vote in the parliament and are meant to be logical in nature rather than
derived from sources like religion, culture, traditions etc. However, in some parts of the world such
as Middle East, people value their sectarian or ethnic identities more than nationalistic values. So a
debate emerges around the openness of democratic system to religion. Although Ethnocracy offers
short term solution for some countries like Syria, yet the system should be based on liberal
democracy that work on the principle of "State nation" that protects core values of democracy and
account for religions as well.
Ethnocracy is a system that only allows political parties based on ethnic, religion or sectarian
identities to participate in the elections and individual choices are ignored. This system is applicable
in some countries like Lebanon where after widespread conflict between different groups, it has
been authorized that three parties based on Christians, Sunni Muslims and Shia Muslims can only
participate in elections and people have to tie with any of these groups. There are quotas

In the book of Matthew Jesus distributes talents to three servants. One servant received five talents,
one two, and the other one. Each servant was expected to reap according to what they had been
given; therefore, servant one was to reap five, servant two, two, and servant three, one. However, at
the end of the parable, only servant one and two had fulfilled their task. Servant three did not. Just as
Jesus had given his servants a task, I will be given tasks, much like this assignment, to complete
under the Christian Liberal Arts Curriculum. It is my job to be as servant one and two were –– to
fulfill my tasks that are given. With that in mind, I shall achieve all of my vocational and

Dating back to its establishment in 1955, the Liberal Democratic Party (L.D.P) had dominated
Japan's political scene. One of S.C.A.P's more noteworthy modifications to the old Japan was the
shakeup of political power to which the L.D.P had dominated for so many years. Allowing for not
only more diversity in terms of political parties, but also a better representation of what a
functioning democratic state embodies. While, as you can imagine, this liquidation of the L.D.P left

percentage of female members of the Lower House, the Upper House and local assemblies make up

of Japan's Western counterparts, and even ranks relatively low in comparison to the lowest groups of

19. The Benefits Of Liberal Arts Education
A liberal arts education is an essential necessity to one's self–development, however, the high
demands to integrate technology has a threat to the future of the liberal arts institution. A liberal arts
education will increase the intellect, imagination, and critical thinking skills of each student. The
world is progressing rapidly and the demand for innovative educated people is at an all–time high.
There is a heightened demand for individuals with a liberal arts education; however, the future
demands are not as intense for individuals who has majored in a specific academic subject. Thus,
they will become increasingly valuable in the job market after graduating from college. Studying a
specific skill set in modern day society does not equate to a lifetime of success; neither will it lead to
more desirable employment opportunities. Therefore, the individual who decides to major in a
liberal arts education can expect to live a life of completeness, joy, contentment, success, and
happiness. A liberal arts education is crucial in the modern day, there is a high demand globally for
every person who has a liberal arts education. The institution of liberal arts has been experiencing
severe challenges compared to its ancient antecedents the Greek and Romans era.

21. Summary Of The Meaning Of Liberal Education
The Meaning of Liberal Education In the article, "The Meaning of Liberal Education", the author
Robert A. Scott explores what the purpose of a liberal arts education is and how it is connected to
making students more aware of their world. Scott conveyed that a liberal education provides a broad
exposure to be shared by all students no matter their major. He feels that a liberal education will
expose the student to the world in which we live. According to Scott, by experiencing a liberal
education, the student is able to find questions behind the answers. He stated that history,
imagination, and compassion are three essential subjects which need to be discovered during the
process of obtaining an education. He feels that too many adults lack the skills to understand the
dynamics of culture and how people interact. After discussing the matter with several professionals,
Scott was surprised to find that many employers felt that individuals lacked subject–matter
knowledge. Internships were considered to be ideal for preparing adults for their future. By
receiving internships, the adults would be well–rounded. It is thought that by receiving a liberal
education, a citizen can acquire a network of fellow students and alumni that they can use
throughout their careers and also their social life. Scott is of the opinion that a liberal education
nurtures the ability to differentiate between what is true and what is false and an individual can grow

23. Liberal Arts Misperceptions
Why are many young Americans so uncomfortable with liberal arts? And why are countless high
school graduates shying away from this particular form of education? Just like anything else that is
popular, once liberal arts has been accurately, or inaccurately, discredited, the aftermath inevitably
spreads. As more information is being mistakenly spread, numerous liberal arts colleges are taking
the fall. To combat the onslaught of negative publicity, university officers are beginning to speak out
to discredit the invalid claims. Sanford J. Ungar, a journalist and president of Goucher College, is
one of the faculty members actively trying to disprove the accusations against liberal arts colleges
and educations. In his February 2010 article from the academic journal The Chronicle of Higher
Education, Ungar gives readers multiple examples of common misunderstandings about liberal arts
and then informs them why those examples are incorrect. Appropriately titled, Ungar's "7 Major
Misperceptions About the Liberal Arts" is an easy "go to" guide when a person wants to learn more
about liberal arts. These readers, mainly students and parents looking toward a higher degree of
education, can read Ungar's essay and find new knowledge about the liberal arts discipline. As
students and parents are looking into colleges, their minds need to be open and free of biases.

25. The Importance Of Liberal Arts
Today students major in areas such as medicine, economics, engineering and business yet, not many
major in liberal arts. Why is that? Steve Pearlstein, a writer and a Robinson Professor of Public
Affairs at George Mason University, in his article "Meet the parents who won't let their children
study literature" (2016), argues that college students should be able to pursue on the major they want
rather than listen to what their parents want for them. He supports his argument by providing
testimonies, statistical evidence, and studies. The author's purpose is to encourage all students to
consider becoming a liberal arts major. Out of all his appeals, his strongest were both logical and
ethical because he provided an amount of sources that build up his credibility. In the other hand, the
article lacks on emotional appeal. Overall, he delivers a well structured article that hits the points on
why we should consider majors like liberal arts and how students take majors that their parents
prefer. To build his argument Pearlstein uses logical appeal that demonstrates to be one of his
strongest appeals out of his whole article. He does this by this by giving an example of a parental
testimony. Kyler Tucker of Fredericksburg, Va, a parent that stood outside with his son in long line
in front of engineering school booth commented: " To spend $80,000 on a history, degree, I'd need

29. Liberal Arts Degree Advantages
Being slightly educated in liberal arts is essential to being a well–rounded person. Knowing liberal
arts widens a person's horizon, creating a different mindset. Although knowing some liberal arts is a
good quality to take out into the real world, it is not necessary to get a degree in liberal arts if the
person does not plan to pursue a job in the liberal arts field. There are more cons than pros in getting
a full liberal arts education. Although a liberal arts degree makes for a well–rounded person out in
the real world, it takes up a lot of time and money, and will narrow a person's chances of getting a
job. Getting a liberal arts degree is going above and beyond normal expectations in today's society.
It is challenging the mind, forcing a person to think in a different way than most people think. It
allows the person to see the world in a completely different perspective than the norm, seeing
everything with a more open mind. However, a liberal arts degree can only go so far. Knowing
liberal arts broadens a person's knowledge with real world issues, but it will not do much in the
occupational field. Therefore, it is a wiser choice to take a few core classes in liberal arts, instead of

A liberal arts education is one that, by definition, focuses not on one specific subject, but rather
prepares its student by giving them knowledge in many areas and developing the student's critical
thinking that will allow them to adapt to an ever–changing world. Naturally, this means students at a
university that employs a liberal arts education take classes outside their major. Students of the
humanities or social sciences must enroll in courses of mathematics and natural sciences, and while
many find no joy in such requirements, they better the individual and are helpful in everyday life, as
well as in larger issues. As Crane and Chiles so eloquently write, specifically of science, "Science
matters at a liberal–arts university because the problems facing our global community will not be
solved by scientists alone." Mathematics as a subject acts in a similar way, giving skills to students,
non–mathematics majors included, to help in their everyday lives or potentially to help the world. ...

In today's generation college students struggle to attend higher education. Tuition has been higher

as the student. The title provides the basic to justifying the claim. The title can grave the readers

37. The, Liberals And The Neo Orthodox
Throughout the Church history, details in which to interpret Scripture and the place of it, has been
debated among major groups for centuries. Three major groups that all read and interpret scripture
to a different standard are the Evangelicals, Liberals and the Neo–Orthodox. Each group holds the
Scriptures sacred in their own way, but not everyone agrees to the others use. The first group was
the Liberals. The Liberals were by far the most unique of these three groups because were prepared
to disregard standard traditions to get to a more contemporary way of practicing their faith. One way
they did this was in the way they looked at scripture. When reading Scripture, they did not see it as
"inspired" in the same way that other groups did. Typically, across denominations, most everyone
views scripture with the most authority because it is God's Word and they believe that the text is
directly from God's mouth, but the Liberals didn't see it that way. They believed that Christianity
was meant to change as time progressed. For example, they believed many of the statements that are
made throughout the Bible, both New and Old Testament, were not meant to be the standard in
which Christians were to be held at today because times have changed and changes in beliefs are to
be made as society and culture changes. The next group was the Evangelicals. Evangelicals were a

liberal arts is a synthesis of several elements, it provides a broad base of knowledge by shaping
one's mindset and formulating a nonstandard intellectual position. As the articles suggest, the liberal
arts education helps obtain a full picture of the world and prepares to overcome any hardship by
endowing a person with creative and analytical thinking. It also teaches focus and self–expression.

The world needs citizens who think not only for themselves but also for other inhabitants. It requires
the individuals who are not afraid to criticize and be criticized, who always understand and seek for

provides people with by producing citizens who can deal with sensitivity and become citizens of the
world – understand the world from the perspectives of different cultures. (Roth, 2014; Guo, 2015)
Hence, the liberal education is an indispensable aspect of a healthy republic as it creates effective

41. The Art Of Liberal Arts
The Art of Liberal Arts
"I can't go to a liberal–arts college. My parents are conservatives!" I told my eighth grade teacher.
He laughed and then went on to explain what a liberal–arts college actually is. Like many others, I
believed a common misperception about the liberal–arts. In "The New Liberal Arts" by Sanford J.
Ungar, the writer explains wrong ideas about the liberal–arts to a college–based audience including
students, professors, and administration. He explains the importance and relevance of a liberal–arts
education. Ungar claims that it is a better investment than narrow, specific technical training because
it prepares students for career placement by giving them skills in communicating effectively,
thinking creatively, and understanding comprehensively. I agree with Ungar and I think he
successfully explains the reasons why liberal arts are important and relevant in today's society.
First, the logic of the article focuses on why students should have a balanced, well–rounded
understanding of the world to be successful in life rather than having a career–based education that
is only focused on one aspect. There were no obvious fallacies found in Ungar's argument beyond
the generalization about costs for all colleges thus not focusing primarily on the financial situation.
Additionally, Ungar uses a 2009 survey for the Association of American Colleges and Universities
to reveal that "more than three–quarters of our nation's employers recommend that college–bound

The Myth of Liberal Arts Education "I do not understand why I have to study Arts and Humanities
courses when I am a pre–engineering student," as a lot of international students complain that they
have difficulty adjusting the life in a liberal arts college. As the increasing popularity of attending
liberal arts college, the Liberal Arts Education(LAE) has been highly debated and evaluated. Over
the long history of evolvement, the liberal arts education has been changed from a required, closed
and limited course to a broad, liberal and inclusive curriculum. However, differences do exist
between the western and oriental education and thus the extent to which LAE shape students'
personality and intellectual ability across different countries is worth–considering. The emergence of
LAE in Asia is discussed and further analyzed. One may think the geographical difference is the
main reason; however, it turns out that the country's economic power, political influences, and
cultural differences play a more significant role to the distinction between the educational systems.
Regardless of other variables, economic power or the matureness of one area's economic and
political influences is interconnected that affect educational systems to a considerable extent. The
mainland China and Taiwan is a good analysis, material in distinguishing the vast difference
between the two given that they have the same ancestors and language. After Mao Zedong took over

45. The Benefits of a Liberal Arts Education
The strength of a liberal arts education is the strong, varied foundation it provides over a wide
spectrum of subjects. A liberal arts education is aimed at teaching you how to think. It helps you to
develop strength of mind, and an ordered intellect. This broad–based education allows students to
create new theories, discoveries, and connections between fields. With such expansive roots, great
innovators can build and expand from what others have learned, instead of wasting effort on
rediscovery of what is already known. With the knowledge of a subject's strengths and capabilities,
and weaknesses and restrictions, students can combine traits of different subjects to formulate new
and more complicated concepts. New colors can only come from mixing those which already exist.
The pigment of a new color depends on the shades and hues of the colors used to create it. Such is
true for education. The resulting ideas are a sterling product of the compatibility of the subjects
blended to create it. What vocational schools have in central focus, they lose in direct focus.
Enormous concentration in one area pigeon–holes, severely limiting the range of career
opportunities. A liberal arts education on the other hand, teaches one how to think, and how to apply
this to a variety of subjects. Both aspects have their strengths and their downfalls. However, one can
hardly say the liberal arts is useless and should be tossed aside in the modern day. A better

47. Liberal Arts Education : The Ideas Of A Liberal Arts College
Every year, millions of high school seniors make a decision on where they want to attend college.
One of the ideas these students have to consider is if they want to attend a vocational college or a
liberal arts college. While some students feel very strongly one way or another, many students don't
even know what a liberal arts education is. For a Christian liberal arts college, their answer should
be simple. Jeffry C. Davis once said in his book Liberal Arts for the Christian Life that "Rightly
understood, the pursuit of Christ is the supreme liberal art–the fundamental discipline that sets us
free." (Davis 23) I believe that Davis is right on target with this quote, that anyone who is seeking
true and complete freedom should be seeking Jesus Christ.
But still, what is a "liberal arts" education? There's no one clear–cut answer to that question, and
there's still debate on what the ideal liberal arts education looks like. For the purpose of this essay,
I'd like to use the definition that was originally used for liberal arts. In the same book as before,
Davis states that
Together, these seven studies became what the Roman orator and statesman Cicero first described as
the artes liberales, a term relatively understood in the first century BCE as "the academic disciplines
for freedom." The arts proved to be freeing or liberal (a word that comes from the Latin liber,
meaning "free person")... (Davis 27)
Freedom. That was the goal of having a rounded, liberal arts education.

One of the defining characteristics of a liberal arts education is the broad range of subjects taught,
which, aside from gaining a comprehensive knowledge base, allows students to learn material they
may have never thought they'd be interested in. Broader topics will allow me to make more
informed decisions regarding potential degrees and careers in the future. New interests I develop in
college may lead me to a completely different degree than the BA in economics I plan on pursuing.
Additionally, an undergraduate degree earned from a liberal arts education will provide me with
more choices when determining which graduate program to take.
Perhaps by some twist of fate, the top careers I am considering will no longer viable options when I

thing that will remain constant, however, is the set of skills needed to solve new problems

My only concern with the previous pro humanities argument is the fact that most students pursuing a

53. Liberal Arts Education Vs Liberal Education
Liberal education consists in reading and analyzing complex intellectual material every day, this
kind of education is intellectually too demanding for most young people and only a few percentiles
are indeed good at it, however, a large proportion of people who are able to assimilate a liberal
education have no interest in doing so. Liberal arts education has been criticized due to
misperceptions by students, society, and media. Ungar points out seven misperceptions about
Liberal arts education and also provides a response for each one of them. Students can make a living
with a liberal–arts college degree by finding a job easily in the future, the field of study in liberal
arts education is broader, and it is more affordable.
After students graduate from a liberal arts college, they usually obtain a job within a short period of

which in fact, is a significant concern because economic issues are important when choosing a
university. The net cost of a small liberal–arts college can be lower than the net cost of a large public
university. For this reason, a small liberal–arts college is the best option. The advantage of a small
liberal–arts college goes beyond the net cost to the relation between students and professor, staff and
other students. Since it is smaller, students are able to rich their professors, to get to know them and

55. The Theory Of Liberal Eugenics
Nicholas Agar, in Liberal Eugenics promotes a more neutral position of moral obligation to
tolerance in respecting the differences people have regarding what constitutes a valuable trait and
their perceptions of a good life, thus seemingly avoiding the authoritarian eugenics of the past. In
this new conception of eugenics governments cannot tell parents what children should be like and
parents will respect their child's autonomy as not to favor one specific identity or lifestyle over
another. In this doctrine parents have the freedom to select particular hereditary traits and it is
morally permissible for them to eradicate traits deemed undesirable, as long as the child's autonomy
is not in any way compromised. Scholars such as Agar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I do recognize that it is often the case that laws and policymaking take time to catch up with such
technology, but nonetheless find themselves doing just that, playing catch up. I then concede that if
the courts had the provisions in place to combat such dangerous effects of the uses of neo–eugenics
it could be appropriate for generations alike to decide for themselves what diseases, disorders and
traits would need to be addressed with genetic modification and liberal eugenics to create a more
perfect society. This would only be appropriate if those in the intergenerational justice community
and specifically those playing the game of tug–a–war with the idea of liberal eugenics could agree to
address civil rights and identity politics in order to procure protections for minorities and suspect
classes alike. Until then, it would be a rather reckless assumption that using genetic engineering and
neo–eugenics to create more well off human beings would be beneficial for society as a whole, as
some scholars have suggested.
Many academics such as Janna Thompson have proceeded with caution to make the case that such
technology could create a more just society. That "by eliminating from the next generations people
with disabilities that predispose them to act unjustly: psychopaths, for example" we lessen the

60. Democracy And The Liberal Democracy
Democracy varies in every country depending on the type of government or regime they have. There
is the liberal democracy, which is all about giving people their rights and liberties; everything is
done through fair voting and electing. The people are aware of everything that happens in their
government. Illiberal democracies are basically the same as liberal, but the people in power are
more secretive of their activities, and there is less civil liberty. It is essentially a partial democracy.
Now Authoritarian regimes designate any political system that concentrates power in the hands of
one leader or a small elite. There are no free elections and very little regard for the law. Political
institutions, social structures, and the democratic rule of law all affect liberal, illiberal, and
authoritarian regimes democratic quality differently. First, liberal democracies are more open with
the people. The philosophical traditions of a liberal democratic republic are democracies, liberalism,
and republicanism. Democracies try to be equal with all, it stresses public rights, it reaches for what
the majority wants, and it is very protective against authoritarianism. In liberalism, natural rights
can't be violated, private rights are very important, no one is above the law, and the government has
no rights. In republicanism the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. The chief
executive is chosen through lections, and every citizen has their right to vote. Political

"93 percent of Americans consider the arts to be vital to providing a well–rounded education for

From a young age, the arts start to show people different ways to view certain aspects of life. For
example, two people can paint the same scene or person but the pictures will look different. This is
because each person sees things in their own special way. The different ways people portray their
subjects is related to how they see them, but the real importance is that the painting itself lets
someone express how they see it. This different perspective helps others obtain new viewpoints as
well. This fact can also be proven in the theater. Theater is known to help give students new
outlooks on life as well as helps them understand their own lives (Fowler 89–90). These students
learn the roles of a huge spectrum of different characters, all that come from different places,
cultures, religions, and incomes. The opportunity to be put into the character of someone that has

would otherwise go unlearned. If children are taught arts education at a young age they will better

72. Democracy And Liberal Democracy
Democracy is a political system in which the power belongs to the people by which majority rules.
The source indicates that freedom of choice is an essential component to a liberal democracy as it
gives the power to the people by having multiple political ideologies to choose from and elect as
their government. When there is competition between multiple parties, each party has a critical
opposition that can hold each party accountable and restrict their power within government. This
gives the power to the people because it allows people to choose from multiple political ideologies.

During post war Germany, Adolf Hitler had full control over the country's political and economic
systems. During this time, in 1933, the Enabling Act was introduced essentially giving all the power
to Adolf Hitler to enact any laws without consulting the people. This act was the first step of abusing
civil liberties in a democracy and essentially forming a oligarchy. Furthermore, in the Soviet Union,
the Communist party led by Joseph Stalin controlled the government and all its actions. The
Communist ideology revolves around collectivist beliefs in which the collective supersedes the
individual It also promotes a central government led by a single leader. In the USSR, Stalin ran the
government to his accord and that resulted in civil liberty abuses. Stalin held false elections that did
not provide a choice to the citizens. Furthermore, he had got rid of anyone who questioned him
further restricting the freedom of accountability.
Competition between parties allows different ideologies to hold each other accountable during times
of crisis or prosperity. This is evident in the United States parliament. In the United States
parliament, the ideas of Montesquieu are implanted. Montesquieu suggested that government be

The basic elements in a liberal democracy are regular elections, a parliament exercising control over
government within law and individuals freedoms such as free debate, freedom of association and the
right to protest (Carter & Stokes, 2002).
Regular elections should include competitiveness among parties to keep elections fair and voters
should be aware of their interests. Additionally, as Carter and Stokes (2002) state that there should
be "a parliament that can exercise control over the government and all this happens within a frame
work of the rule of law" (p.10).

Press should be careful to present complete and just information in order to maintain the public
trust. One example is from New York Times (3 May 2003) that journalist Jayson Blair had made up
interviews and stories, he was fired at the moment in an attempt to protect the integrity of the paper
(Street, 2011, p.53).
The love of propaganda of our days negatively affect news presentation in a way it manipulates and
derives new information or selects information in favor of some particular groups.
Investigating government power or political activity is another contribution that news can make to
democracies. In other words this function can be described as maintaining politicians' honesty. This
provides the public to be aware of their politicians' activities so people can make sound choices and
rational decisions. In countries with non–liberal regimes, journalism cannot fulfill its investigative
duties, serving to their political masters. Hutton (2008) claims that in China, journalists and editors
receive "daily instructions on what may or may not be reported" (p.134).
Journalists' duty to serve the public includes investigating and gathering information by means of
having connections and resources who mostly disguise themselves for the sake of remaining hidden.
