Career Cruising
Through the Career Cruising, the three careers that I explored are Oceanographer, Commercial
Diver, and Environmental Engineer. In order to first understand these careers, I must understand my
learning styles and how it fits into the careers. According to the learning styles test, I received a
48.57% for auditory, and a 62.86% for both kinesthetic and visual. According to these results it
means that I am primarily a hands on learner as well as visual learner; this means I am a good fit for
jobs that require observation as well as labor, and a poor fit for jobs that require listening. Because
of these results it means I am a good fit for oceanography and commercial diving. Oceanography
requires mainly observation and recording, and commercial ... Show more content on

Environmental engineers focus on cleaning and protecting healthy air, soil, and water. They monitor
the quality of theses aspects to ensure healthiness in the environment. Many engineers take part in
projects around the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of water plants that filter
sewage. Some deal with garbage disposal such as landfills, and some can be assigned with
managing toxic or radioactive materials. They also evaluate government or private projects on how
they will affect the surrounding environment, and they advise companies of existing policies that
may interfere with the project development. Environmental engineers also work in flooded areas,
erosion control, and recycling. The minimum degree required is a bachelor's in environmental
science or similar. However, it is generally recommended to obtain a master's. At the entry level,
these engineers start out with an annual salary of $61,200. The median salary is $84,610, and the
experienced salary is $100,470. By 2024, the career is expected to increase by 12%. Environmental
engineers are employed by the government. For those interested in this career, useful resources
include: the US Environmental Protection Agency, TryEngineering.org, and the American Academy

Creative Story : A Short Story
It was turning dark, starting to rain and shadows were cast all over the cemetery. The only light was
from the headlights of the car we came in. There was a slight cold breeze from the north and it was
about 60 degrees. My hair would be all over the place if it weren't for my bandana with the
American flag pictured on the front. "Napoleon, come here." Gertrude my 18 year old sister told me.
"This is the spot of mom and pa's murder when they were looking at grandpa's grave." "Wait
murder! You said they got in a car crash! Why didn't you tell me." "You were three years old when it
happened 11 years ago and you weren't very mature until now!" Gertrude explained. "You lied to me
for 11 years!" I screamed and ran to the car.
The car ride home was quiet. It was like the car was filled with dead people. When we got there I
went to the docks downstairs where I was working on a new submarine. The only problem is the
door I made is 5 foot tall and I'm 5' 2" and Gertrude is 5' 11". A week has passed and the mansion is
still dead quiet from the argument a week ago. Luckily, I finished the submarine and Gertrude and I
are leaving today to try and find Atlantis. "Gertrude are you ready?" I screamed up the stairs toward
her room. "Yes, I am just grabbing my camera. I'll be down at the dock in a few minutes." Gertrude
replied. "Ok, I have all of your diving gear and 2 oxygen tanks." I responded. Starting to walk down

Underwater Cemetery How new technologies have helped undersea treasure hunters disturb long
forgotten shipwrecks According to the United Nations more than three million shipwrecks can be
found on the ocean floor. These ships contain trillion dollars worth of artifacts, however we should
not forget that an incalculable number of people lost their lives on those ships, making them massive
underwater cemeteries. All those deaths left behind them mourning family members who demand
that wrecks be left as undisturbed graves. An experienced diver once claimed that hunting through a
shipwreck was like walking through a haunted house. You can sense the presence of those who sank
with the ship and have nothing to identify their lost remains. This is why the shipwreck are primarily
their graveyard and not a place for treasure hunts. They should be left in peace. Ships like the
Nuestra Senora de la Mercedes which sank near the coast of Tampa bay, killing over 200 crews
members, should be protected by some regulation. For the respect of those who died serving their
country, even if the ship contains half a billion dollars worth of sunken treasure. ... Show more

They call the "finders keepers" concept and stipulates that since they found the artifact they should
be the rightful owner of those objects. When you dive, the underwater pressure squeezes your

at risk when they fetch the treasures. This is not an act of bravery but one blinded a quest for money

Sharks aren't the scariest things in the ocean for scientists who dive to work. Powerful currents,
created where the ocean floor drops away, can be just as deadly. "You can get sucked down and
crushed by the pressure within minutes," notes Marcel Jaspars. He's a chemist who once saved
himself from such a current. He encountered it while taking photos of a sea sponge near Indonesia,
in Southeast Asia. Luckily, he inflated his dive vest in time. He was able to float to the surface and
escape the potentially deadly current. Polynesia sharks David Gruber and his team meet sharks

Pomponi Unlike Jaspars, Shirley Pomponi never dreamed of becoming a deep–sea diver. She
planned to be a nurse. But after her first dive, she knew there was no way she was going to spend
the whole rest of her life on land. "The freedom was amazing," Pomponi says, recalling her early
dives in the Caribbean Sea. "You're breathing underwater – almost weightless – and looking at all
these amazing things." Sponges fascinated her the most. These simple animals live everywhere,
from shallow waters to deep seas. Because they're always anchored to the seafloor, they can't move
if another sponge tries to overtake them. So sponges make chemicals to protect themselves against
hostile invaders. Some of those defense chemicals might lead to new drugs. For example, some sea–
sponge chemicals poison an invading sponge by stopping its cells from dividing. Halting cell growth
is also a key way to stop cancers, Pomponi notes. Cancers are basically cells that invade healthy
tissue, where they endlessly divide, or grow. Shirley Pomponi, Mir submersible Pomponi stands

Dive Mask Research Paper
SCUBA DIVING GEAR 101: The Basics As much as we, humans, would like to swim and dive in
open waters without any form of protection and aid, our anatomy just isn't perfectly designed to
handle underwater conditions for long amounts of time. This is where SCUBA Diving gear comes
in. SCUBA Diving gear allows us to see, breathe, swim and stay warm underwater. To beginners,
this stuff might look like it came from a sci–fi alien invasion movie, so we'll discuss each one to
help you understand. The Dive Mask. This piece of equipment protects your eyes from sea salt and
other nasty sea stuff. But more importantly, the dive mask lets you ogle at the beauty of the
underwater world! The dive mask separates your eyes (and sometimes nose) from water and creates
an air pocket to let you see clearly underwater. The mask is fastened on the diver's face because of
something called "elastomer skirt", but we don't have to worry about that yet! All it means is that the
water can't get through and your mask won't suddenly come off. The Snorkel. It's like a straw, but
instead of sucking water or beverage, we actually use this to breathe through our mouths. The
snorkel allows us to breathe while facing down when underwater. Some models are even designed to
allow us to expel the water that somehow gets in there. It is usually used for short and ... Show more

Because we don't have gills, we have to rely on the regulator to breathe underwater. The regulator is
called as such because it regulates the amount of air you receive from the SCUBA tank every time
you inhale. It is a little similar to the snorkel in that it allows you to breathe underwater and it has a
mouthpiece. However, the regulator is connected to the SCUBA tank and will allow you to stay
underwater for much longer. The octopus, on the other hand, is not a pet you can take with you
when you go diving (although I wish I could). It is a backup regulator, in case something goes

What is Nitrox? Essay
What is Nitrox?
Enriched Air Nitrox, Oxygen Enriched Air, Nitrox, EANx, Safe Air
Breathing in the Deep
The common gasses used in diving include compressed air and Nitrox. Nitrox is a mixture of gas
composed of nitrogen and oxygen. Nitrox also contains normal air, which is 78% nitrogen, 21%
oxygen and 1% of other gasses, primarily argon.
Scuba diving is diving with a self–contained underwater breathing apparatus, that is completely
independent of surface supply. Providing the diver with the advantages of underwater mobility
whilst being able to sustain life at underwater pressures. Embolism results when gasses in the lung
expand during ascent and rupture lung tissue, causing air bubbles to enter the bloodstream.

However a double–blind study to this test this found no statistically significant reduction in reported
fatigue. Other studies with a number of varied dive profiles, and also different levels of exertion,
which would be necessary to investigate the issue. There is much more scientific evidence on
breathing high oxygen gasses increases exercise tolerance during aerobic exertion. It is possible that
the positive reputation of Nitrox can be credited to a lack of knowledge of un–studied situations.
Such as competitive diving's accelerated oxygen use and fatigue in contrast to scuba diving's slower
oxygen use and intake due to the need to conserve the gas.
The Benefits of Nitrox over Compressed Air
Recreational Nitrox (21 – 40% oxygen) contains a lower percentage of nitrogen than air, The
reduced percentage of nitrogen in recreational nitrox allows for extended no–decompression limits
by reducing nitrogen absorption. The weight of air at sea level is approximately 1.2g/L.
The weight of air 100940 Newtons/m2. Ptotal = Patmosphere + Pfluid = (1.01 x 105) + (100940) Pa
= 10200940 kPa, approximately 1 x 107
The pressure increases the deeper you travel underwater, to calculate these pressures:
Total pressure = Pressure exerted by water at 33ft + Atmospheric Pressure
Pressure exerted by water = Density of water x Gravitational constant x Height
Density of water = 1g/mL
Gravitational constant = 6.67×10−11 N(m/kg)2

Gas Laws and Equilibrium: Extended Response Task Scuba Diving
Good Morning/Evening Ladies and gentleman, Scuba diving is a method of underwater diving in
which a diver utilises a Self–Contained Underwater Breathing apparatus (Scuba) to breathe under
water. There are three main gas laws that are pertinent to scuba diving. These are Boyle's Law,
Dalton's Law and Henry's Law. Throughout this presentation we will examine how gas laws relate to
the diving industry and how innovative technology could transform the future of diving. The
pressure on a submerged diver:
Hydrostatic and Atmospheric pressure are the two major components which act upon a diver at
depth. Hydrostatic pressure refers to the weight of the water above the diver, whereas Atmospheric
Pressure is equal to the total weight of the atmosphere above the water.
Atmospheric Pressure:
Although air is very light, the atmosphere above the earth is approximately 150km high. This
amount of air has extensive weight and exerts significant pressure on the earth surface. Atmospheric
pressure at sea level can be referred to as, 1 ATA or one bar.
A diver descending to a depth of 10 meters, is equivalent to the entire 150km of atmospheric air (1
ATA). This is due to water being much denser than air. If the diver were to descend another 10
meters, the water will exert a further pressure, equal to another atmosphere, 2 ATA.
Absolute pressure:

While most people associate commercial diving with the offshore oil industry, there is also a lot of
inland commercial diving. This includes support for everything from nuclear power plants to bridge
inspection and repair to building and repairing wastewater treatment facilities. Regardless of what
kind of commercial diving it is, it requires a skill set far from recreational diving, and quite unlike
anything else at all. A commercial diver must be equally capable of performing a multitude of
different tasks, and in much more demanding situations than other tradesmen. The growing demand
for commercial divers is larger than ever with the amount of work there is for a commercial diver.
The states with the highest employment level include Louisiana, Florida, Texas, Washington, and
Michigan. These states have the highest demand for commercial divers. Alaska, Louisiana,

Diving : A Window Of An Unexplored World
DIVING: A Window to an Unexplored World Mankind has always been very curious about the
ocean and its secrets. In the past centuries, countless numbers of inventions and experiments have
been made in an attempt to maximize the time that a person can stay underwater. Thanks to a device
called the aqualung, invented in 1943 by Jacques Cousteau, people were able to dive down and
explore the ocean with his/her own air source without the need to be connected to an air source at
the surface. Eventually, this lead to the formation of a subculture around the sport, with many divers
around the world exploring the world's oceans. There are many reasons to be a part of this
subculture. I interviewed Luke Inman, a successful Instructor Trainer for the Professional
Association of Dive Instructors, and an avid filmmaker and photographer who constantly works
with the BBC, Discovery Networks, National Geographic, & Animal Planet, and after asking him
what rituals or practices a person must do to become part of this subculture, he answered: "You have
to have a love for the ocean, you have to love fish". You also need to take a Scuba course. This
course is called an Open Water Diver course (or OWD for short); this will be the diver's first
certification. It teaches you about atmospheric pressure, how your body is affected underwater, the
risks of diving, and how easy they are to evade by following simple procedures. After the diver gets
certified as an open water diver, he or she may want to

The Dangers of Scuba Diving and Underwater Exploration Essay
Scuba diving can be a fun activity, you just have to take certain health and safety precautions. There
are lots of dangers in scuba diving, and underwater exploration. There is always the danger of a
shark attack. Sharks are closer to the banks during the months of April through September. From the
months of October through March, they have migrated South for the Winter. After returning from
migration, sharks are often hungry and tend to feed on things other than whats on their diet. Most
attacks on humans are in the months of April and March. One of the main staples on a sharks diet is
a sea turtle. When a diver is in all of their gear, sharks mistake them for sea turtles. Although a shark

This happens because the deeper you dive into the ocean, the higher the pressure is on your ears.
Diving in high pressure for long periods of time can also cause permanent hearing loss. Diving has
many pros and cons. Chambers page.2 Not everyone can dive. Diving take many months of training.
Training usually lasts up to three to four months. During the first month of training, you will
practice your swimming skills. An instructor will test your ability to withstand certain conditions
while in the water. They will test your ability to with stand strong currents, and big waves. You will
also be taught what to do if you become tired or dizzy while diving. If you do become tired or dizzy
while diving, you need to lie on your back and float. During the second month of training, you will
practice breathing at different pressure points, and altitude. Diving in deeper water makes it harder
to breathe, and without proper training, can cause dizziness or unconsciousness. During the second
month of training, you will learn about all of your scuba gear. You will learn how to put it on, and
how to use it. Scuba gear can weigh up to seventy five pounds. If you aren't muscular enough, the
weight of the scuba gear can weigh you down, and cause you to be tired or drown. Months before
training to dive you should go to a gym and try lifting weights, and improve your leg and arm
muscles. ("Gear") During the third

Factors Caused By Recreational Scuba Diving And Snorkeling...
Globally, marine ecosystems, in particular, coral reefs, are experiencing increasing pressure due to
the growth in recreational scuba diving, and snorkeling. Pressure refers to the frequency, and
quantity of divers, and dive boats on any particular reef. This pressure often results in damage to the
reef, and is caused by divers, snorkelers, and even dive boat anchors, and anchor lines, furthermore,
this damage takes significant time to repair, due to the rate at which coral grows, and repairs itself.
Although this damage is not irreparable, continual pressure by recreational dive and snorkeling
industries, can lead to damage beyond the reef's ability to recover. Damaged reefs result in loss of
sea life, vibrancy, and color, the primary draw for divers, snorkelers, and other marine enthusiasts.
Consequently, this damage extends to the economies of the local communities, in which water
related activities are a primary source of revenue. To sustain these local communities' economies,
and tourist enjoyment, private SCUBA organizations can coordinate, and facilitate options to reduce
the recreational damage of the ocean's reef system through education, artificial reef attractions, and
alternative dive programs.
SCUBA diving is a growing, and global recreational sport, with one certification agency, PADI,
claiming an "annual average of 900,000 new diver certifications globally". Of course, not all of
these new divers will continue on to become frequent, or repeat divers, however,

Boyle 's Law And Scuba Diving Techniques
Even though there may be other laws that are just as important to know, Robert Boyle created a law
named "Boyle's Law" that has important relevancy to anyone who is a scuba diver. Knowing the
breakdown of how Boyle's law works allows for safe practices and scuba diving techniques. Many
instructors train, and make sure they teach their students the law, to prevent life threatening
circumstances. It is crucial to know, who created the law for legibility, how the law works
scientifically, and its relationship to scuba diving.

Oppositely, if the gas decreases in size the molecules will subside and the pressure will drop. (Hess,
2016) In order to understand this mathematically, and get the approximate value, p (pressure) and v
(volume) = the k (constant) this is shown as PV=k and if comparing the same matter with different
conditions the equation is demonstrated as P1V1=P2V2. (Hess, 2016) This will give you an
approximation in numbers, if the volume, and or pressure, has either increased or decreased.
Knowing this has contributed to the understanding of how much oxygen to give and how the body
reacts while scuba diving
Scuba divers trained well on knowing Boyle's law, and how the body reacts while underwater, could
prevent possible life threatening circumstances. In any scuba diving safety training, Boyle's law is
used as a primary example of the physiological reaction that the body will go through while
underwater. A primary example that most scuba divers are trained on in relation to Boyle's law is
that a balloon pushed underwater, for example, shrinks as its volume is compressed (2014).
Conversely, a balloon inflated underwater and released expands and may burst as it rises and its
volume expands (2014). At sea level the pressure is at 1 atm (760mmHg), which is 14.7 pounds per
square inch and because seawater is less dense a diver is exposed to a much higher pressure
(Meeraus, 2001). This means that the lower the diver descends

Scuba Snorkeling And Snorkeling Diving
The Extreme and Thrilling Dangers of Scuba Diving
Have you ever been scuba diving or perhaps seen pictures of it? It is an amazing opportunity that
should be on everyone's bucket list. When most people look out at the ocean, they think of how
beautiful it is. Although the ocean is marvelous on the outside, they're only looking at the outside.
The inside is when it really takes your breath away. When scuba diving, you are given the chance to
swim in one of the world's glories –– the ocean. The views of the majestic, unique, and
extraordinary landforms, ships, and animals are extremely amazing and breath taking.
A thing to consider is the difference between scuba diving and snorkeling. Snorkeling is out of a
snorkel (where the name comes from) and they skim the surface of the water. Scuba diving is deep
underwater exploring. You breath usually compressed air so you have longer endurance and don't
have to return to the surface until your air runs low. Going deep underwater where water is very
pressurized and air is limited makes scuba diving an extremely more dangerous activity. Although
scuba diving can be very dangerous, to some the danger gives extreme divers a thrill.
There are many diving spots throughout the world that are extremely dangerous. These are places
where people have lost their lives diving in. Extreme divers are waiting to conqueror spots like these

Underwater Photography : An Enthusiast Of The Sport
When thinking about a choice for the subject of this assignment, I knew I wanted to look into
underwater photographers. I am a recently certified scuba diver and have quickly become an
enthusiast of the sport. My recent purchase of a GoPro camera inspired my interest in photography
and in taking this course. Underwater photography was naturally something I wanted to know more
about. In my initial research, I found several professionals; most of whom would have been very
suitable for this assignment. What intrigued me about Adriana Basques is that there are so many
elements to her work that I respect; her determination, creativity, ability to inspire, and her courage,
as well as her high level goals in continuing this chosen path. The first thing I was drawn to in
Adriana's work was how striking her images are. There is often a shock element, borne of her
creative, determined and often fearless approach to getting the shots she wants. I like her
perfectionist attitude – her desire to learn everything about her work and to strive to be excellent at
it, whether it's diving or capturing images. The final result is collection after collection of images
with intense clarity, color and light, that tell a captivating story about life under the sea. However,
there's not only the shock factor, or the natural beauty of the environment in her images. She also
has a strong ability to elicit emotion from the viewer. I find myself admiring her. As a previous

The Aqua-Lung
Diving is something that many consider as their hobby. This is given credit to Jacques Cousteau
because he invented the Aqua–Lung. In the article "The Aqua–Lung–Bringing Ocean Exploration to
New Depths" by Jess Therell, it informs readers about the invention of the Aqua–Lung and the
development of the creation of this. The different inventions that are made before the Aqua–Lung
was invented greatly impacted the creation of the Aqua–Lung. Some of these inventions were by
Captain Yves Le Prieur and by Emile Gagnan. The contrasts between the Aqua–Lung and other
inventions are that the Aqua–Lung controls with the air pressure unlike the other inventions and it
can allow humans to remain underwater for a longer period of time. Before the Aqua–Lung, ... Show

One previous invention that helped in the development of the Aqua–Lung is designed by Emile
Gagnan, which was first used for car engines. In Paragraph 3, it states, "Its chief feature was that it
helped supply the exact amount of fuel needed for an engine to run, reducing unnecessary usage and
minimizing waste." This is very similar to the invention for the Aqua–Lung because Cousteau
wanted that all the air could be used by the by diver and no air would be wasted. Moreover,
Cousteau was able to adapt Gagnan's invention to create something called the "demand regulator."
In Paragraph 4, it states, "Cousteau adapted Gagnan's invention to create the 'demand regulator,' the
defining component of the Aqua–Lung system. The regulator is the piece that fits into the diver's
mouth. The other essential parts were the tanks containing the air that were strapped to the diver's
back, as well as a hose to carry air from the tank to to the regulator." Cousteau was able to use this
invention in his advantage so that he could develop the creation of the Aqua–Lung. The invention of
Emile Gagnan was an invention that Cousteau used in the development of the

What Are Jacques Cousteau's Major Accomplishments
Jacques Cousteau was a man of numerous works and various talents during his lifetime. In America
he was well known for having several positions in his career. For example, he was a marine officer,
oceanographer, scientist, conservationist, filmmaker, and an underwater explorer. However, in
overseas countries, Cousteau was well–known for his documentary television show called the
"Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau." Lastly, but certainly not least, Cousteau is the Creator of
countless diving and scuba devices such as the "Aqua–Lung." Overall, Jacques was an intelligent
man with various ideas to help other scientists answer the questions of the oceans that we have
every day. The world's oceanographers and scientist would even continue on to say that ... Show

He grew up with stomach problems and anemia, which kept him sick and away from multiple
activities during his early childhood. Before Cousteau's mass of great career accomplishments, he
began his fascination with water at the age of four years old, when he first learned how to swim.
According to "SeaSky.org," in 1930 Cousteau had joined the French's navy and graduated as a
gunnery officer. Shortly after his graduation, Cousteau had joined the navy's information service,
where he swiftly became vastly interested in the photography business. With Jacques being a part of
the navy, he would continue to travel around the world to numerous places. Cousteau's traveling
around the world had allowed him to shoot film in some of the greatest and glamorous places
around the Indian and Pacific oceans. Nevertheless, a few years later in 1933, Cousteau's life nearly
came to a complete end. Jacques was involved in a fatal automobile accident, which placed

Alexander The Great Dbq
332 B.C The first idea of SCUBA diving was in the year 332 B.C when Alexander the Great was
lowered in a diving bell–like object. Alexander the Great went down in a glass diving bell so that he
could see what was going on around him under water. Scyllis was a Greek during one of the many
wars. He discovered that his enemies, the Persians, were going to attack his naval ship. To stop the
Persians, he cut the ships from their mooring. To do this, used a reed of a snorkel as a tool to breathe
underwater and avoid being spotted.
1300 In the years of 1300, primitive goggles were made by thinly slicing and polishing tortoise
shells in Persia.
1538 In the year 1538, a simple diving bell was built by two Greeks. It was big enough to hold both
the inventors. They displayed their invention before the Emperor Charles V in Toledo, Spain. In
order to prove that the bell actually worked, the inventors lit a candle inside and were then lowered
with the candle. When they were brought back up, the candle was dry, ... Show more content on

He was the first ever to record decompression sickness. Decompression sickness is when nitrogen
bubbles form in the tissues of the body while one is diving. Boyle conducted a series of experiments
on animals to prove his law, which is called Boyle's Law. Because of him, further investigation on
decompression sickness followed. The Germans had actually perfected their diving bell in the year
of 1616. Franz Kessler created a diving bell that was made out of a long wooden barrel which would
reach a diver approximately by the ankles. The diver was then lowered by the use of weights and
was lifted by releasing the weights. The diving barrel had two windows. In order to make it
watertight, it was covered in leather. Not many people used Kessler's diving bell apparatus because
they were to afraid to see what happened in the deep ocean

The Physics Of Scuba Diving Essay example
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to swim with the fish and explore the underwater
jungle that covers two–thirds of the earth's surface? I have always been interested in water activities;
swimming, diving and skiing, and I felt that scuba was for me. My first dive took place while on a
family vacation. I came across a dive shop offering introductory dives, which immediately caught
my interest. After much convincing (my parents), with my solemn assurance that I would be careful,
I was allowed to participate in a dive.
I was ready, or so I thought. The slim basics such as breathing were explained and I was literally
tossed in. Sounds easy enough, right!, well WRONG!!. From the moment I hit the water, my
experience was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scuba diving is the most frequently used mode in recreational diving and, in various forms, is also
widely used to perform underwater work for military, scientific, and commercial purposes.
There were many steps in the development of a successful self–contained underwater system. In
1808, Freiderich yon Drieberg invented a bellows–in–a–box device that was worn on the diver's
back and delivered compressed air from the surface. This device, named Triton, did not actually
work but served to suggest that compressed air could be used in diving, an idea initially conceived
of by
Halley in 1716. (Ketels, 9)
In 1865, two French inventors, Rouquayrol and Denayrouse, developed a suit that they described as
"self–contained." In fact, their suit was not self contained but consisted of a helmet–using surface–
supported system that had an air reservoir that was carried on the diver's back and was sufficient to
provide one breathing cycle on demand. The demand valve regulator was used with surface supply
largely because tanks of adequate strength were not yet available to handle air at high pressure. This
system's demand valve, which was automatically controlled, represented a major

How do the pressure variations with depth affect our ability to explore the ocean? Water is around
800 times denser than air and much heavier. This is why only 5% of our oceans have been explored.
The deepest part of the ocean is still unseen by humans. Everything in the deep ocean is under great
pressure. At any depth in the ocean the weight of the water above pushes on any object below it. The
deeper we go the more harmful to our bodies this can be. For every

Different Types of Diving Mask: Scuba Dive in Nassau Bahamas
You may be preparing to scuba dive Nassau Bahamas, but you'll need to check if you have all of the
proper equipment first. A proper scuba diving mask is a crucial part of your equipment, but there are
many different types of mask to choose from. Whether you're purchasing a mask now or just wish to
expand your knowledge on the topic, there are four main types of mask that you should learn about.
Swimming Goggles
Unless you're diving in particularly shallow areas, swimming goggles are usually not a good choice
for scuba diving. Their main purpose is to provide swimmers with clear vision when they're
swimming or dipping their heads underwater. Some people use them for shallow snorkeling, but
when it comes to deeper snorkeling and scuba ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If contact lenses aren't an option, you can order some optical lenses for your mask or specially order
a mask that already has your prescription lenses installed within it. Optical lenses can easily be
installed in most diving masks, and they come in practically every prescription type available. If you
can't find your prescription, you may be able to find something close enough to your prescription or
you may have some custom made.
Full Face Masks
Full face masks are the mask of choice for very deep diving, underwater cave exploration and dives
that go on for extended periods of time. Full face masks differ from diving masks as they also
include a respirator attachment. Unlike the use of a mouthpiece when using a diving mask or
swimming goggles, respirators or demand valves allow the use to breathe without needing to bite
down on the mouthpiece. This is especially useful if the diver falls unconscious. Full face masks
also have several useful options such as gauge displays and backlights that aren't available for
diving masks. Full face masks also usually have much wider lenses than diving masks, which allows
the diver to see further and more clearly. They're also useful for protecting the diver's face from cold
and possibly polluted water. Due to their high costs, these are typically only purchased by
professional divers. However, particularly passionate hobbyists also purchase them on occasion.

Scuba Diving And Physics Of The Underwater World
Scuba Diving and Physics
Introduction
Exploration of the underwater world is fascinating; both from an aesthetic and scientific point of
view. One must have a passion for adventure and the knowledge and skills that come with a diving
certification. Diving with a Self–Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus, S.C.U.B.A., remains
the ultimate way in which we can experience this wondrous environment and explore the scientific
principles behind humans delving into the expanse of the largest unexplored area on our planet. The
application of key fundamental tenets of science allows us to venture into a world in which we are,
without question, out of our element. The development of modern–day scuba equipment is a
compelling one.

A significant breakthrough was not seen until 1943. Captain Jacques Cousteau and Emile Gagnan
finished development of the Aqua Lung. The Aqua Lung used a similar on–demand valve that drew
from two to three cylinders that each contained over 2500 psi of breathable gas. Some years later,
the Lambertsen Amphibious Respiratory System was completed. This was later named S.C.U.B.A.
This was developed and used by the military of several countries. It remains in use by the military
and civilians all over the world. (2)
The invention of scuba permitted divers freedom of movement and granted them access to deeper
depths due to the longer dive times that it allowed. Without the need for very expensive support
devices in order to dive with contained air, the cost to dive in such a manner decreased drastically,
which gave rise to the community of recreational scuba divers.
Discussion
Although buoyancy is a concern for scuba divers; the main focus, and science, behind scuba diving
lies in pressure. On land, air is exerting a constant, imperceptible pressure on our bodies. This
pressure is not felt because the human body is comprised mainly of liquid. This liquid evenly
distributes the pressure throughout the body. There are three air spaces in the human body. These are
the lungs, sinuses and ears. The air in these spaces is equal to the pressure of

Scuba Snorkeling : Scuba Diving
What is Scuba Diving? Scuba Diving is defined as swimming and breathing below water. Scuba
stands for Self–Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus.1 Scuba makes it possible for one to
explore the amazing sights of the underwater world. Divers can remain underwater by using a
cylinder of air to breathe. It is practiced recreationally all around the world and can even be a
profession. Scuba divers enroll in courses through an organization, such as PADI.
What is PADI? PADI stands for Professional Association of Diving Instructors. It is the world's
leading diver training organization. More than 23 million certifications have been issued around the
world. PADI diver courses can be found nearly anywhere. Translations of PADI materials are
available in 26 languages.2 This organization provides instructors that help those interested in scuba
diving to learn.
How to become a diver? PADI offers two ways to get involved with scuba diving, Discover Scuba
and becoming an Open Water Certified Diver. Discover Scuba is available for those who want to try
scuba diving, but are not yet ready to dive into a certification course. Discover Scuba is offered in
either a pool, off a beach or from a dive boat. Basic skills and safety guidelines are learned before
one tries Discover Scuba. If the program is enjoyable, a student may proceed to the next step, which
is becoming an Open Water Certified Diver. First, lessons will be taken either in a classroom or

Benefit Of Ocean Exploration
Astonishingly, Did you know that we have better maps of the moon than we do of the ocean? It's
true! Scientists are working to make drones to explore the deep sea. Ocean Exploration is a
developing science that incorporates the use of marine biology and drone technology. Ocean
Exploration technology will be an overall benefit to society because 1. exploring the ocean is easier
than before and 2. ocean exploration can help with monitoring the deep sea.
First of all, ocean exploration technology has advanced much more than before in the past decade.
In the past, people had to bring everything needed for scuba diving which included hundreds of
pounds of gear and photographing technology. Now, all you need is the drone and an ocean. There
are many things needed for scuba diving. Such as, oxygen tanks and diving gear that also cost lots of
money. With drones, ocean exploration will be much cheaper and faster than scuba divers ever have
been. (#2) According to a journalist, Kimberly Pierceall, from Military Times, from her article
'Researchers Want To Use Drones For Ocean Floor Exploration' She said that, "..They (Scientists)
hope (12 research drones) will survey the deepest parts of the ocean faster – and cheaper – than
anyone has done before" (Pierceall, 2017). This evidence proves that with new developing ocean
technology, exploring will be cheaper and faster than it ever has before. This is a benefit to society
because researchers will be able to explore vast amounts of the

Basketball Temperature Lab Report
The experiment had four different temperature 12 ̊, 51 ̊, 75 ̊, 111 ̊. In the experiment it was about
how temperature effects the air pressure of a basketball. The one thing that would change the
experiment is recording the bounce because participants had to get the bounce and the measurement.
The highest bounce was the hot ball that was 111 ̊it bounce high. The lowest bounce was the frozen
ball that was 12 ̊ because it barely bounced.
Introduction
Many athletes use basketballs, soccer balls, and volley balls to play their sports. The balls need to
have the right temperature and air pressure inside in order to work best. When a ball drops gravity

could also be tested. Further research could benefit athletes as they could expect more consistent
performance in sports balls. The research could be expanded to improve the quality–reliability,
safety and performance of vehicle tires as well. The next problem addressed could be whether
different surfaces could affect the rebound of a ball or the performance of a tire. More research in
this question could result in better athletic performance indoors and out. It could provide valuable
information for manufacturers of sports equipment. Vehicle tires and other devises that require a

Hugh Bradner Essay
Hugh Bradner It was getting cold and repetitive doing many underwater dives into the frigid water.
Hugh had thought of ways to make his job quicker and easier or, if it came down to it, perhaps
something warmer. In his basement, he was working on suit that could hold warm water inside.
Separating the cold and warm water with the fabric. It was the neoprene fabric recommended by the
scientist and engineer of Scripps Institute. Today Hugh had finally finished fabricating the suit in his
basement, but it was very heavy and hasn't been in a test dive yet. He and his co workers decided to
create this wet suit to make their work easier, maybe go for a US patent if possible. If that didn't
work he could just sell the suit to the navy and such. In 1915, the 5th November in Tonopah,
Nevada; Hugh Bradner was born. Brother to Mead Bradner, and children to both Donald Bradner
and Agnes Bradner (maiden name Mead). He and his brother were raised in Findlay, Ohio, and had
done most schooling there. After high school, Hugh decided to study at Miami University in 1936.
Hugh chose to study in the fields of Engineering, geophysics, and physics. Further on in life, he had

Analysis Of Diving Into The Wreck By Adrienne Rich
Is it possible for words on a page to become a painting in the mind? After plunging into Adrienne
Rich's "Diving into the Wreck," it is apparent that words on a page can come to life in the mind of
the readers. Rich uses a vast amount of describing words, and a setting of a scuba diver to allow
readers the ability to acknowledge and understand the difficulties life may imply upon humankind.
Throughout the next few paragraphs, it is evident that certain elements of poems can become a large
factor in allowing the reader to get more out of a poem, rather than just words on a page. In
summary, Adrienne Rich gives the reader a depiction of a person dealing with one or even many
difficult intricacies in life through the symbolization of scuba diving in a large body of water (Mays,
2014, p.581). Whether that be national issues, personal relationships, the death of those close by, or
even more personal issues, the reader is able to relate with Rich's symbolization of a scuba diver
getting ready for an intense journey through a large, dark body of water. Scuba diving into a
shipwreck is an abstract way to relate the thoughts people bottle up inside their bodies into a larger,
more meaningful picture, which allows the reader to understand how issues weigh on the mind. In
addition, Rich doesn't just use simple words to create a symbolization, she precedes or follows those
words with meaningful adjectives which help to create a clearer appearance for the reader to
imagine. In the

Massive reefs, the size of greyhound buses, are innumerous surrounding the island. Ocean currents
pulled us as we dove, giving us a scenic tour of the underwater landscapes. But it's not solely the
awesome view of Cozumel that holds a significance to me, It's the experiences i've had on the
island. Since diving in Cozumel is something both my father and I really enjoy, during winter break
last year, we decided to spend an entire week in Cozumel doing the "Ultimate Diver Experience" as
branded by the travel company. That trip did not disappoint. My dad and I really bonded there and I
think that's definitely a reason for my attachment to Cozumel. We dove twice a day, every day, and it
was spectacular. Though my dad and I have always been close, it was different for me to see him in
a relaxed state, as he's usually busy doing 1000 things at once back at home. Through that trip we
really got closer and got to share such an amazing experience together. The trip we took wasn't just
to get away from the world for a while, it was also to celebrate my 18th birthday, and that night of
my actual birthday was one that I'll always remember. We decided to take a taxi into town away
from the quiet of the resort we were staying at. Not with any specific location in mind, we shuffled
around the city looking for a good place to spend the evening. We settled on a small bar that all the
locals recommended and propped up our feet to watch the game, the Cowboys were playing! We
ordered what i'm convinced were the best chicken nachos on the planet earth, may or may not have
downed the traditional 18th birthday tequila shot, and watched the Cowboys take home the win. But
from there the night was not over! My dad had planned something really special. We packed up and
headed back to the resort where my dad had signed us both up to do a night dive. I've always wanted
to do one and it really was incredible. You dive off the both into a pitch

Career Cruising Through Three Careers: Oceanographer, Commercial Diver, and Environmental Engineer

  • 1. Career Cruising Through the Career Cruising, the three careers that I explored are Oceanographer, Commercial Diver, and Environmental Engineer. In order to first understand these careers, I must understand my learning styles and how it fits into the careers. According to the learning styles test, I received a 48.57% for auditory, and a 62.86% for both kinesthetic and visual. According to these results it means that I am primarily a hands on learner as well as visual learner; this means I am a good fit for jobs that require observation as well as labor, and a poor fit for jobs that require listening. Because of these results it means I am a good fit for oceanography and commercial diving. Oceanography requires mainly observation and recording, and commercial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Environmental engineers focus on cleaning and protecting healthy air, soil, and water. They monitor the quality of theses aspects to ensure healthiness in the environment. Many engineers take part in projects around the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of water plants that filter sewage. Some deal with garbage disposal such as landfills, and some can be assigned with managing toxic or radioactive materials. They also evaluate government or private projects on how they will affect the surrounding environment, and they advise companies of existing policies that may interfere with the project development. Environmental engineers also work in flooded areas, erosion control, and recycling. The minimum degree required is a bachelor's in environmental science or similar. However, it is generally recommended to obtain a master's. At the entry level, these engineers start out with an annual salary of $61,200. The median salary is $84,610, and the experienced salary is $100,470. By 2024, the career is expected to increase by 12%. Environmental engineers are employed by the government. For those interested in this career, useful resources include: the US Environmental Protection Agency, TryEngineering.org, and the American Academy of Environmental ... • 3. Creative Story : A Short Story It was turning dark, starting to rain and shadows were cast all over the cemetery. The only light was from the headlights of the car we came in. There was a slight cold breeze from the north and it was about 60 degrees. My hair would be all over the place if it weren't for my bandana with the American flag pictured on the front. "Napoleon, come here." Gertrude my 18 year old sister told me. "This is the spot of mom and pa's murder when they were looking at grandpa's grave." "Wait murder! You said they got in a car crash! Why didn't you tell me." "You were three years old when it happened 11 years ago and you weren't very mature until now!" Gertrude explained. "You lied to me for 11 years!" I screamed and ran to the car. The car ride home was quiet. It was like the car was filled with dead people. When we got there I went to the docks downstairs where I was working on a new submarine. The only problem is the door I made is 5 foot tall and I'm 5' 2" and Gertrude is 5' 11". A week has passed and the mansion is still dead quiet from the argument a week ago. Luckily, I finished the submarine and Gertrude and I are leaving today to try and find Atlantis. "Gertrude are you ready?" I screamed up the stairs toward her room. "Yes, I am just grabbing my camera. I'll be down at the dock in a few minutes." Gertrude replied. "Ok, I have all of your diving gear and 2 oxygen tanks." I responded. Starting to walk down the ... • 5. Underwater Cemetery Research Paper Underwater Cemetery How new technologies have helped undersea treasure hunters disturb long forgotten shipwrecks According to the United Nations more than three million shipwrecks can be found on the ocean floor. These ships contain trillion dollars worth of artifacts, however we should not forget that an incalculable number of people lost their lives on those ships, making them massive underwater cemeteries. All those deaths left behind them mourning family members who demand that wrecks be left as undisturbed graves. An experienced diver once claimed that hunting through a shipwreck was like walking through a haunted house. You can sense the presence of those who sank with the ship and have nothing to identify their lost remains. This is why the shipwreck are primarily their graveyard and not a place for treasure hunts. They should be left in peace. Ships like the Nuestra Senora de la Mercedes which sank near the coast of Tampa bay, killing over 200 crews members, should be protected by some regulation. For the respect of those who died serving their country, even if the ship contains half a billion dollars worth of sunken treasure. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. Ocean Pressure Lab Report Sharks aren't the scariest things in the ocean for scientists who dive to work. Powerful currents, created where the ocean floor drops away, can be just as deadly. "You can get sucked down and crushed by the pressure within minutes," notes Marcel Jaspars. He's a chemist who once saved himself from such a current. He encountered it while taking photos of a sea sponge near Indonesia, in Southeast Asia. Luckily, he inflated his dive vest in time. He was able to float to the surface and escape the potentially deadly current. Polynesia sharks David Gruber and his team meet sharks while diving in French Polynesia. Pomponi Unlike Jaspars, Shirley Pomponi never dreamed of becoming a deep–sea diver. She planned to be a nurse. But after her first dive, she knew there was no way she was going to spend the whole rest of her life on land. "The freedom was amazing," Pomponi says, recalling her early dives in the Caribbean Sea. "You're breathing underwater – almost weightless – and looking at all these amazing things." Sponges fascinated her the most. These simple animals live everywhere, from shallow waters to deep seas. Because they're always anchored to the seafloor, they can't move if another sponge tries to overtake them. So sponges make chemicals to protect themselves against hostile invaders. Some of those defense chemicals might lead to new drugs. For example, some sea– sponge chemicals poison an invading sponge by stopping its cells from dividing. Halting cell growth is also a key way to stop cancers, Pomponi notes. Cancers are basically cells that invade healthy tissue, where they endlessly divide, or grow. Shirley Pomponi, Mir submersible Pomponi stands beside Mir, a Russian submersible, just before a dive into Lake Baikal. At 1,642 meters (5,387 feet), this freshwater lake in southeastern Siberia is thought to be the world's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Dive Mask Research Paper SCUBA DIVING GEAR 101: The Basics As much as we, humans, would like to swim and dive in open waters without any form of protection and aid, our anatomy just isn't perfectly designed to handle underwater conditions for long amounts of time. This is where SCUBA Diving gear comes in. SCUBA Diving gear allows us to see, breathe, swim and stay warm underwater. To beginners, this stuff might look like it came from a sci–fi alien invasion movie, so we'll discuss each one to help you understand. The Dive Mask. This piece of equipment protects your eyes from sea salt and other nasty sea stuff. But more importantly, the dive mask lets you ogle at the beauty of the underwater world! The dive mask separates your eyes (and sometimes nose) from water and creates an air pocket to let you see clearly underwater. The mask is fastened on the diver's face because of something called "elastomer skirt", but we don't have to worry about that yet! All it means is that the water can't get through and your mask won't suddenly come off. The Snorkel. It's like a straw, but instead of sucking water or beverage, we actually use this to breathe through our mouths. The snorkel allows us to breathe while facing down when underwater. Some models are even designed to allow us to expel the water that somehow gets in there. It is usually used for short and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because we don't have gills, we have to rely on the regulator to breathe underwater. The regulator is called as such because it regulates the amount of air you receive from the SCUBA tank every time you inhale. It is a little similar to the snorkel in that it allows you to breathe underwater and it has a mouthpiece. However, the regulator is connected to the SCUBA tank and will allow you to stay underwater for much longer. The octopus, on the other hand, is not a pet you can take with you when you go diving (although I wish I could). It is a backup regulator, in case something goes wrong with your first ... • 11. What is Nitrox? Essay What is Nitrox? Enriched Air Nitrox, Oxygen Enriched Air, Nitrox, EANx, Safe Air Breathing in the Deep The common gasses used in diving include compressed air and Nitrox. Nitrox is a mixture of gas composed of nitrogen and oxygen. Nitrox also contains normal air, which is 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and 1% of other gasses, primarily argon. Scuba diving is diving with a self–contained underwater breathing apparatus, that is completely independent of surface supply. However a double–blind study to this test this found no statistically significant reduction in reported fatigue. Other studies with a number of varied dive profiles, and also different levels of exertion, which would be necessary to investigate the issue. There is much more scientific evidence on breathing high oxygen gasses increases exercise tolerance during aerobic exertion. It is possible that the positive reputation of Nitrox can be credited to a lack of knowledge of un–studied situations. Such as competitive diving's accelerated oxygen use and fatigue in contrast to scuba diving's slower oxygen use and intake due to the need to conserve the gas. The Benefits of Nitrox over Compressed Air Recreational Nitrox (21 – 40% oxygen) contains a lower percentage of nitrogen than air, The reduced percentage of nitrogen in recreational nitrox allows for extended no–decompression limits by reducing nitrogen absorption. • 14. Gas Laws And Equilibrium : Extended Response Task Scuba... Gas Laws and Equilibrium: Extended Response Task Scuba Diving Good Morning/Evening Ladies and gentleman, Scuba diving is a method of underwater diving in which a diver utilises a Self–Contained Underwater Breathing apparatus (Scuba) to breathe under water. There are three main gas laws that are pertinent to scuba diving. These are Boyle's Law, Dalton's Law and Henry's Law. Throughout this presentation we will examine how gas laws relate to the diving industry and how innovative technology could transform the future of diving. The pressure on a submerged diver: Hydrostatic and Atmospheric pressure are the two major components which act upon a diver at depth. Hydrostatic pressure refers to the weight of the water above the diver, whereas Atmospheric Pressure is equal to the total weight of the atmosphere above the water. Atmospheric Pressure: Although air is very light, the atmosphere above the earth is approximately 150km high. This amount of air has extensive weight and exerts significant pressure on the earth surface. Atmospheric pressure at sea level can be referred to as, 1 ATA or one bar. A diver descending to a depth of 10 meters, is equivalent to the entire 150km of atmospheric air (1 ATA). This is due to water being much denser than air. If the diver were to descend another 10 meters, the water will exert a further pressure, equal to another atmosphere, 2 ATA. Absolute pressure: The absolute pressure ... Commercial divers have the opportunity to travel the world and to dive to fix many important structures. They have a responsibility to inspect and repair so that production won't be slowed down and make the company lose money. A commercial diver must be equally capable of performing a multitude of different tasks, and in much more demanding situations than other tradesmen. The growing demand for commercial divers is larger than ever with the amount of work there is for a commercial diver. • 18. Diving : A Window Of An Unexplored World DIVING: A Window to an Unexplored World Mankind has always been very curious about the ocean and its secrets. In the past centuries, countless numbers of inventions and experiments have been made in an attempt to maximize the time that a person can stay underwater. Thanks to a device called the aqualung, invented in 1943 by Jacques Cousteau, people were able to dive down and explore the ocean with his/her own air source without the need to be connected to an air source at the surface. Eventually, this lead to the formation of a subculture around the sport, with many divers around the world exploring the world's oceans. There are many reasons to be a part of this subculture. I interviewed Luke Inman, a successful Instructor Trainer for the Professional Association of Dive Instructors, and an avid filmmaker and photographer who constantly works with the BBC, Discovery Networks, National Geographic, & Animal Planet, and after asking him what rituals or practices a person must do to become part of this subculture, he answered: "You have to have a love for the ocean, you have to love fish". You also need to take a Scuba course. This course is called an Open Water Diver course (or OWD for short); this will be the diver's first certification. It teaches you about atmospheric pressure, how your body is affected underwater, the risks of diving, and how easy they are to evade by following simple procedures. After the diver gets certified as an open water diver, he or she may want to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. The Dangers of Scuba Diving and Underwater Exploration Essay Scuba diving can be a fun activity, you just have to take certain health and safety precautions. There are lots of dangers in scuba diving, and underwater exploration. There is always the danger of a shark attack. Sharks are closer to the banks during the months of April through September. From the months of October through March, they have migrated South for the Winter. After returning from migration, sharks are often hungry and tend to feed on things other than whats on their diet. Most attacks on humans are in the months of April and March. One of the main staples on a sharks diet is a sea turtle. When a diver is in all of their gear, sharks mistake them for sea turtles. Although a shark attack is a danger, it is not very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This happens because the deeper you dive into the ocean, the higher the pressure is on your ears. Diving in high pressure for long periods of time can also cause permanent hearing loss. Diving has many pros and cons. Chambers page.2 Not everyone can dive. Diving take many months of training. Training usually lasts up to three to four months. During the first month of training, you will practice your swimming skills. An instructor will test your ability to withstand certain conditions while in the water. They will test your ability to with stand strong currents, and big waves. You will also be taught what to do if you become tired or dizzy while diving. If you do become tired or dizzy while diving, you need to lie on your back and float. During the second month of training, you will practice breathing at different pressure points, and altitude. Diving in deeper water makes it harder to breathe, and without proper training, can cause dizziness or unconsciousness. During the second month of training, you will learn about all of your scuba gear. You will learn how to put it on, and how to use it. Scuba gear can weigh up to seventy five pounds. If you aren't muscular enough, the weight of the scuba gear can weigh you down, and cause you to be tired or drown. Months before training to dive you should go to a gym and try lifting weights, and improve your leg and arm muscles. ("Gear") During the third ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Factors Caused By Recreational Scuba Diving And Snorkeling... Globally, marine ecosystems, in particular, coral reefs, are experiencing increasing pressure due to the growth in recreational scuba diving, and snorkeling. Pressure refers to the frequency, and quantity of divers, and dive boats on any particular reef. This pressure often results in damage to the reef, and is caused by divers, snorkelers, and even dive boat anchors, and anchor lines, furthermore, this damage takes significant time to repair, due to the rate at which coral grows, and repairs itself. Although this damage is not irreparable, continual pressure by recreational dive and snorkeling industries, can lead to damage beyond the reef's ability to recover. Damaged reefs result in loss of sea life, vibrancy, and color, the primary draw for divers, snorkelers, and other marine enthusiasts. Consequently, this damage extends to the economies of the local communities, in which water related activities are a primary source of revenue. To sustain these local communities' economies, and tourist enjoyment, private SCUBA organizations can coordinate, and facilitate options to reduce the recreational damage of the ocean's reef system through education, artificial reef attractions, and alternative dive programs. SCUBA diving is a growing, and global recreational sport, with one certification agency, PADI, claiming an "annual average of 900,000 new diver certifications globally". Of course, not all of these new divers will continue on to become frequent, or repeat divers, however, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, can you place blame on two ordinary individuals who simply just want to have fun, enjoy life, and check things off their bucket list? Can you sit here in front of my client and tell him or her that he or she is at fault for this tragic death? My client is not a professional or and expert in scuba diving, however, the individual who owns this credible and highly known business is. Boyle 's Law And Scuba Diving Techniques Even though there may be other laws that are just as important to know, Robert Boyle created a law named "Boyle's Law" that has important relevancy to anyone who is a scuba diver. Knowing the breakdown of how Boyle's law works allows for safe practices and scuba diving techniques. Many instructors train, and make sure they teach their students the law, to prevent life threatening circumstances. It is crucial to know, who created the law for legibility, how the law works scientifically, and its relationship to scuba diving. Robert Boyle, known as the "Father of Chemistry" an Irish chemist, physicist and inventor, was prominent in the 17th century (Ward, 2016). Boyle was born into an extremely wealthy family and at 8 years old received his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Hess, 2016) In order to understand this mathematically, and get the approximate value, p (pressure) and v (volume) = the k (constant) this is shown as PV=k and if comparing the same matter with different conditions the equation is demonstrated as P1V1=P2V2. (Hess, 2016) This will give you an approximation in numbers, if the volume, and or pressure, has either increased or decreased. Knowing this has contributed to the understanding of how much oxygen to give and how the body reacts while scuba diving Scuba divers trained well on knowing Boyle's law, and how the body reacts while underwater, could prevent possible life threatening circumstances. In any scuba diving safety training, Boyle's law is used as a primary example of the physiological reaction that the body will go through while underwater. A primary example that most scuba divers are trained on in relation to Boyle's law is that a balloon pushed underwater, for example, shrinks as its volume is compressed (2014). Conversely, a balloon inflated underwater and released expands and may burst as it rises and its volume expands (2014). At sea level the pressure is at 1 atm (760mmHg), which is 14.7 pounds per square inch and because seawater is less dense a diver is exposed to a much higher pressure (Meeraus, 2001). • 32. Scuba Snorkeling And Snorkeling Diving The Extreme and Thrilling Dangers of Scuba Diving Have you ever been scuba diving or perhaps seen pictures of it? It is an amazing opportunity that should be on everyone's bucket list. When most people look out at the ocean, they think of how beautiful it is. Although the ocean is marvelous on the outside, they're only looking at the outside. The inside is when it really takes your breath away. When scuba diving, you are given the chance to swim in one of the world's glories –– the ocean. The views of the majestic, unique, and extraordinary landforms, ships, and animals are extremely amazing and breath taking. A thing to consider is the difference between scuba diving and snorkeling. Snorkeling is out of a snorkel (where the name comes from) and they skim the surface of the water. Scuba diving is deep underwater exploring. You breath usually compressed air so you have longer endurance and don't have to return to the surface until your air runs low. Going deep underwater where water is very pressurized and air is limited makes scuba diving an extremely more dangerous activity. Although scuba diving can be very dangerous, to some the danger gives extreme divers a thrill. There are many diving spots throughout the world that are extremely dangerous. These are places where people have lost their lives diving in. Extreme divers are waiting to conqueror spots like these for the thrill where others won't step foot near, in fear of their life falling like some of the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am a recently certified scuba diver and have quickly become an enthusiast of the sport. My recent purchase of a GoPro camera inspired my interest in photography and in taking this course. Underwater photography was naturally something I wanted to know more about. In my initial research, I found several professionals; most of whom would have been very suitable for this assignment. What intrigued me about Adriana Basques is that there are so many elements to her work that I respect; her determination, creativity, ability to inspire, and her courage, as well as her high level goals in continuing this chosen path. The first thing I was drawn to in Adriana's work was how striking her images are. There is often a shock element, borne of her creative, determined and often fearless approach to getting the shots she wants. I like her perfectionist attitude – her desire to learn everything about her work and to strive to be excellent at it, whether it's diving or capturing images. The final result is collection after collection of images with intense clarity, color and light, that tell a captivating story about life under the sea. This is very similar to the invention for the Aqua–Lung because Cousteau wanted that all the air could be used by the by diver and no air would be wasted. Moreover, Cousteau was able to adapt Gagnan's invention to create something called the "demand regulator." In Paragraph 4, it states, "Cousteau adapted Gagnan's invention to create the 'demand regulator,' the defining component of the Aqua–Lung system. The regulator is the piece that fits into the diver's mouth. The other essential parts were the tanks containing the air that were strapped to the diver's back, as well as a hose to carry air from the tank to to the regulator." I have always been interested in water activities; swimming, diving and skiing, and I felt that scuba was for me. My first dive took place while on a family vacation. I came across a dive shop offering introductory dives, which immediately caught my interest. After much convincing (my parents), with my solemn assurance that I would be careful, I was allowed to participate in a dive. I was ready, or so I thought. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scuba diving is the most frequently used mode in recreational diving and, in various forms, is also widely used to perform underwater work for military, scientific, and commercial purposes. There were many steps in the development of a successful self–contained underwater system. In 1808, Freiderich yon Drieberg invented a bellows–in–a–box device that was worn on the diver's back and delivered compressed air from the surface. This device, named Triton, did not actually work but served to suggest that compressed air could be used in diving, an idea initially conceived of by Halley in 1716. (Ketels, 9) In 1865, two French inventors, Rouquayrol and Denayrouse, developed a suit that they described as "self–contained." In fact, their suit was not self contained but consisted of a helmet–using surface– supported system that had an air reservoir that was carried on the diver's back and was sufficient to provide one breathing cycle on demand. The demand valve regulator was used with surface supply largely because tanks of adequate strength were not yet available to handle air at high pressure. This system's demand valve, which was automatically controlled, represented a major ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Separating the cold and warm water with the fabric. It was the neoprene fabric recommended by the scientist and engineer of Scripps Institute. Today Hugh had finally finished fabricating the suit in his basement, but it was very heavy and hasn't been in a test dive yet. While that helped his intentions to help create the bomb at Los Alamos, it was at the laboratory that Hugh met his wife Marjorie Hall Bradner (no maiden name mentioned). The laboratory had such high security no family members could attend, only co workers. Later on in his married life he had a daughter named Bari ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Analysis Of Diving Into The Wreck By Adrienne Rich Is it possible for words on a page to become a painting in the mind? After plunging into Adrienne Rich's "Diving into the Wreck," it is apparent that words on a page can come to life in the mind of the readers. Rich uses a vast amount of describing words, and a setting of a scuba diver to allow readers the ability to acknowledge and understand the difficulties life may imply upon humankind. Throughout the next few paragraphs, it is evident that certain elements of poems can become a large factor in allowing the reader to get more out of a poem, rather than just words on a page. In summary, Adrienne Rich gives the reader a depiction of a person dealing with one or even many difficult intricacies in life through the symbolization of scuba diving in a large body of water (Mays, 2014, p.581). Whether that be national issues, personal relationships, the death of those close by, or even more personal issues, the reader is able to relate with Rich's symbolization of a scuba diver getting ready for an intense journey through a large, dark body of water. Scuba diving into a shipwreck is an abstract way to relate the thoughts people bottle up inside their bodies into a larger, more meaningful picture, which allows the reader to understand how issues weigh on the mind. In addition, Rich doesn't just use simple words to create a symbolization, she precedes or follows those words with meaningful adjectives which help to create a clearer appearance for the reader to imagine. • 76. La Isla De Cozumel Research Paper La Isla de Cozumel lies 12 miles off the coast of playa del carmen on the east coast of Mexico. The small island is only 30 miles long, but is home to some of the most beautiful flora, fauna, scenic landscapes, and beaches on the planet. Cozumel is a favorite tourist destination, but more specifically a favorite within the SCUBA diving community. Cozumel is famed for its vibrant reefs and long stretching drift dives. Drift diving consists of divers entering the water at one location and being pulled by underwater currents many miles from their original location. Apart from the allure of the beauty of the island, the island holds a special significance to me. I've been diving since I was 10 years old; I can vividly remember performing my swim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Massive reefs, the size of greyhound buses, are innumerous surrounding the island. Ocean currents pulled us as we dove, giving us a scenic tour of the underwater landscapes. But it's not solely the awesome view of Cozumel that holds a significance to me, It's the experiences i've had on the island. Since diving in Cozumel is something both my father and I really enjoy, during winter break last year, we decided to spend an entire week in Cozumel doing the "Ultimate Diver Experience" as branded by the travel company. That trip did not disappoint. My dad and I really bonded there and I think that's definitely a reason for my attachment to Cozumel. We dove twice a day, every day, and it was spectacular. Though my dad and I have always been close, it was different for me to see him in a relaxed state, as he's usually busy doing 1000 things at once back at home. Through that trip we really got closer and got to share such an amazing experience together. The trip we took wasn't just to get away from the world for a while, it was also to celebrate my 18th birthday, and that night of my actual birthday was one that I'll always remember. We decided to take a taxi into town away from the quiet of the resort we were staying at. Not with any specific location in mind, we shuffled around the city looking for a good place to spend the evening. We settled on a small bar that all the locals recommended and propped up our feet to watch the game, the Cowboys were playing! We ordered what i'm convinced were the best chicken nachos on the planet earth, may or may not have downed the traditional 18th birthday tequila shot, and watched the Cowboys take home the win. But from there the night was not over! My dad had planned something really special. We packed up and headed back to the resort where my dad had signed us both up to do a night dive. I've always wanted to do one and it really was incredible. You dive off the both into a pitch ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
