1. How did you attract/address your
audience?
Media Evaluation Part 5
2. The first aspect of my magazine that really
attracted my audience, is the colour. The colours I
used which were pink, yellow and black stood out
very well because I used contrasting colours in
the background. Also, I got my model to wear a
bright pink top so that also stands out. I also used
the same colour palette on my contents page and
double page spread. On all 3 pages I did make
sure that the masthead stood out to the reader by
making it big and in one of the brighter colours. I
also used the colour pink to stand out to my
female audience.
Next, I also wanted to make the model stand out. I
managed to do this by using a male model which I
felt would stand out to girls more as it is a bit of
eye candy for them. I think having a male model in
my magazine more people will buy it.
3. Next, I used Bursts on my front cover and my
double page spread to stand out to the reader. I
used it on my front cover to direct interest on
the main focus of my cover which was my male
model being a pop star. Also, I used it on my
double page spread to highlight that the pop
star was successful and that he had an album
coming out. I used a very bright yellow for my
bursts as this stood out well against the pink
and white backgrounds. I used quite a sharp
shape on my double page spread so that it
would attract to audience and it would also be
the first thing they see.
Furthermore, I used pull quotes from my
interview I did as it gives the reader an idea of
what to expect when reading it. Also, using
quotes make the interview feel more personal
for the reader and in some ways they may relate
to what the pop star is saying.
4. Carrying on, the next feature I included to grab
my readers attention was the pictures of
familiar artists. I used pictures of artists that
they know and that are very popular in the pop
world. This way when they see them in my
magazine they will be intrigued to read about
them. I included images of artists which they
may inspire to be like and I included a lot of
male photos as this will attract teenage
females.
I have also have used banners on my front
cover which stand out to my audience. Again, I
have used very bright colours and in my top
one on my front cover I made the word ‘you’
larger and in capitals to make it seem more
personal. Also, on my front cover I changed the
colour of the 5 on my banner at the bottom to
make it stand out. The colour is very feminine
so will appeal to my ideal reader. The size is
also a lot bigger so it attracts there eye.
