The document discusses the design choices made for a hip hop magazine. It explains that informal language was used to appeal to the target audience of hip hop fans. An interview format was chosen for a double page spread to make it more interesting than a written article. A variety of fonts were selected that would appeal to fans of the genre. Contents included reviews, gig dates, and competitions to interact with readers. The model used was the same age as the target audience and depicted in casual hip hop style clothing without makeup to be authentic. A variety of camera shots and angles were used for photos but props were avoided.
2. Language
Language
I used informal language in my magazine to
appeal to my target audience, also my genre was
hip hop and the speech used in hip hop is
informal so I wanted to show my audience my
magazine related to my chosen genre.
By using informal language I can relate to my
target audience and they will be interested in my
magazine also if I was to use formal language it
may bore my target audience.
For my double page spread I did an interview
instead of an article as it looks more interesting
than a written article. The interview allowed me
to make it realistic as the questions allowed me to
break up the text.
3. Font
Font
I have used 3 main fonts
throughout my magazine they
were Impact, urban sketch and
Haettenschweiler, these fonts
were all san serif and would
appeal to my target audience.
My masthead is bright and
vibrant and stands out.
4. Contents
From looking back at my
target audience research I
found out that I should
include, reviews, gig dates
and competitions to
interact with the audience.
I think my audience will
like this as it gives them a
chance to win exclusive
items and this will help
my magazine to stand out.
5. Model
Model
The model I used was from the
same age as my target audience. I
didn't use make up or anything
like that as my model was a boy
and hip hop stars wouldn’t wear
make up.
He is wearing a blue hoodie as
hoodies are associated with hip
hop stars. I also had him wearing a
parka coat as parka coats were in
fashion when I took my photos. I
did this to show my audience my
hip star was conscious about his
looks.
6. I used a range of camera shots and
angles but I didn't use any props. I
used a medium close up for my
front cover as it is shot used by most
magazine for their front covers. I
used costume changed. Also in my
first photo shot I had my model
holding a cd but this looked like he
was promoting a product and didn't
really work for my magazine.
