1. Throughout my front page, contents page and double page spread I have been
consistent with my use of colour and font choice to make my magazine look like the
stereotypical pop magazine. The font I used represents my targeted audience
because it is simple yet still has a fancy edge to it. The use of green and pink
throughout emphasises the targeted audience of my magazine and also makes the
magazine look fun and would appeal to a younger audience. It is also conventional
of a pop magazine to use bright colours due to their young look. The consistent use
of these colours and fonts show the continuity of the magazine because if I used
different fonts and colours on the contents page and double page spread to the
front page, it wouldn’t look professional and would look like it hadn’t been thought
through at all.
2. Front page
For my front page, I used a young female artist for my main story in my
magazine as I chose the audience for my magazine to be teenage girls,
but also had other stories and content to appeal to boys.
Stereotypically, pink is a colour you associate with girls as it is quite a
girly colour, so I made this my primary colour. This made sure that the
product was appealing to girls, but then I used a secondary colour of
green to appeal to both girls and boys. Green also makes sure the front
cover has the conventions of a pop magazine because it makes it look
bright and interesting.
3. Contents page
For my contents page I used lots of different images that convey the pop
genre. I did this by using young artists and titles for pages that would appeal
to young teenage girls. The competitions I used would appeal specifically to
the target audience because there were some technology competitions. Also,
by shortening the ‘competition’ title to ‘comps’ relates to the audience
because they would much rather scan the page and see what is on offer than
read a long title. Using social media icons is a great way to advertise the
magazine and the readers would be likely to have accounts with Facebook,
Twitter and Instagram and would like to keep up to date with the magazine.
4. Double page spread
For my double page spread, I carried on with the font type and consistent colour choice
to keep the audience interested and to make my product look as professional as
possible. The four images on the top of the right-hand side page spell out the word
‘SOLO’ and I thought this was a fun way to add to the interview with the artist. I also
added a triangle behind the interview text to go with the triangle on the front page to
show the artist, as I thought this was a good way to make the text stand out and catch
the reader’s eye. I also used a pull out quote from the interview as the reader would
only have to read this to figure out whether they wanted to read it or not, and made a
kind of circular shape to go behind it to, again, catch the reader’s eye and also make the
page interesting and fun to look at.
5. For my magazine product, I researched
colour schemes and went onto a website
called kuler.adobe.com, where there are lots
of different matches of colours. I then typed
in ‘pop’ and this came up with a variety of
colours and different options. I specifically
chose this colour scheme due to their
vibrant colours. The green and pink in the
middle work very well together so this is one
of the ways I chose my colour choice for my
magazine.
6. For my magazine product, I thought about the artist I
wanted to have for my front cover. I decided this
would be a young female because my target audience
is female teenagers, and I think this is who they would
be mostly interested in.
I chose the person on the left because I
thought, after taking lots of images of
each, the images turned out better and
the poses looked a lot nicer and worked
better than the person on the right.
7. This was a way of getting people around
the age of my target audience to have
their input into my magazine. I chose
these specific titles for my magazine
because they sound like something you
would see on a pop magazine. I ended up
choosing the title ‘Pulse’ because of the
amount of votes it received.
