The document discusses photo choices for magazine covers. It describes selecting a close-up portrait of the cover model Chris wearing everyday clothes to appeal to college students. The photo has simple lighting and expression to avoid negatively judging Chris before reading. A second photo of two girls gardening was chosen to represent that activity stereotypically associated with females. Their varied costumes and hairstyles show that anyone can enjoy gardening. The third photo depicts a boy participating in sports with specialist gear as stereotypically a male activity. It shows the full-body of the model leaning on a fence in a relaxed mood at the sports location.

1. I chose this picture to be my main image on my front cover as it has a
simple background meaning the main focus is on the model and so the
photo doesn’t appear too busy. The light is hitting him in the right places
and he hasn’t got a shadow behind him.
As this is the only picture to appear on my front cover, I took a close up of
Chris and chose him as he is also the main coverline so I knew I had to link
the two. The lighting isn’t too harsh and he has a standard expression on
his face so you don’t judge him negatively before picking the magazine up.
He is wearing everyday clothes to be relatable to college students and
isn’t wearing much vibrant colour to make sure his face is the main focus
on the photo and the colours represent his gender but also appeal to the
magazine’s audience of 16-18 year olds.
2. I chose this photo as stereotypically, girls are
seen to garden most out of the two genders
so Sofia and Ellie represent the people doing
the activity.
They both vary in costume to identify that the
way you dress doesn’t decide if you enjoy
gardening and their hairstyles represent
people who are prepared to get dirty and tie
their hair back.
The target audience will be girls and I made
sure to include the top of the archway and
some plants so they have a more elaborate
background. The light hits them enough to
not be bleached out but also understand the
weather conditions outdoors.
3. I chose this photo as it’s dark to portray the dirt doing sports gets you in.
Chris was the model here and it’s stereotypically a boys activity to part
take in. I got a long shot of him so you see his full costume of a jacket and
trainers to show you are required to wear specialist gear.
The colour of his jacket is also representing him and his gender with the
obvious blue approach and same with his trainers so they don’t blend in
with the grass. He’s leaning against a fence to show his chilled mood and
that it’s an enjoyable thing rather than a strenuous one.
I took the photo around where the sport would take place so you get to
see a glimpse of whereabouts it’ll take place but not too much to take
attention away from the model as a long shot means the focus is on his
whole body rather than one particular body part.
