These photographs were taken on a professional
camera-Nikon D3100. I set up my camera on a
steady tripod so that I would get a better steadiness
of the model, without the shakiness of my hand. I
also used a camera light to get the different tones on
his body and facial features to create more definition
of the photographs, making them look professional,
and to produce a better quality photograph. I chose a
range of clothing for my model which I though was
suitable for the genre of music. I used the medium
shot each time, the medium shot allows the model to
show their emotions and some of their body
language to help aid our understanding. The middle
photograph is my favourite of the following
selection because I like the shirt as it suits my genre
perfectly and he is slightly smiling which supports
the overall formality of the magazine structure.
Photoshoot ExperimentPhotoshoot Experiment I think my photos follow the codes and
conventions of a photograph for a cover because,
they are sharp and clean photographs. Also the
mode of address is not direct which makes the
magazine feel less formal which suits the style
that I'm following.
These photographs below are for my double paged spread. What I like about these
photographs is the way he is positioned, because he looks casual as oppose to smart
which again helps the informality of this magazine. The photograph on the right is
over exposed due to the lighting, I prefer the one on the left because the lighting is
much more sufficient, as it picks out his facial expressions and tones on his face and
body better. The clothing looks less formal which is the look I was trying to get
across because it links nicely to my genre of music.
These photographs to the right
are for my contents page, I
still have to take some
however for that part of the
magazine. I took these when I
went to a concert in the
summer. I am undecided
which one to use yet but ill
make my decision when the
time comes to designing that
section of the magazine. My
preference is definitely the top
one however because you can
tell it’s a music concert due to
the hands and the man on the
stage playing his guitar, it just
seems more obvious, to the
reader what is going on.
I decided to change the model just
to compare which one looked better
and what the overall outcome
would be. These are mid shots of
my friend. What I like about these
is the different angles which I have
used as one of them is straight one
looking directly at the model
whereas the other being more to the
side getting the guitar in. I
purposely asked my model to try
different items of clothing which
allowed me to choose the most
suitable one for my magazine.
Personally the photograph where he
is looking directly at the camera is
my favourite so far because it
allows the reader to have more of a
personal connection with the artist
and understand what the article is
trying to entail. I think I am going
to use this model for my final
design on my magazine.
The photo on the left is a close-
up of the models face, which I
thought would be appropriate to
use on my contents page,
however I might try and take
some more close ups as this one
isn't particularly that good. I like
the lighting produced on his face
because it gives the photograph
more definition, to improve this
photograph I could maybe get
more of his shirt in as oppose to
just his face. The photograph on
the right is a different shot
consisting of a long shot of his
whole body. This works well but
I think he could look more direct
at the camera and also wear
suitable clothing appropriate for
my magazine itself. However the
lighting works well bringing out
shadows across the models body.
I decided to take photos of the opposite gender to what I am going to be using
for my magazine just for experimental reasoning. This photograph above is a
close up of the models face, again this was just for experimental purpose to get
a wider variety of shots, as oppose to just having the same/similar shots all the
time. What I like about this model is the glow on her face, produced from her
makeup and the lighting of the outdoors. Her facial expressions help imply that
she is confident as an artist. However I don’t think I am going to use this for my
magazine because I have other photographs which I think suit my magazine
more so than these photos, and my intention is to use a male character.
I decided to take some more photos, as experiments using the different shot
types. As you can see to the left, I took a full body shot of the model, the use of
a full body shot provides an understanding of what the artist is like due to the
style of clothing and the way they stand/pose This models clothing is fairly
suitable for the chosen genre, but not the clothing I would want my model to
wear.
