3. The general characteristics
for the genre country pop
are the green outdoors,
girls dressed in raunchy
outfits and the use of
musical instruments. These
are all used in this video
therefore it is a great
example to take influences
from.
4. Within the video they have linked the lyrics to the
visuals to enhance the music video. For example, they
sing about girls walking around in revealing clothing
and then a visual appears to back up the lyrics. This
makes it easier for the audience to understand the
music video as it has been made clear what the song is
all about. They also use jump cuts to add emphasis on
the change in beat and to also draw the viewers’
attention to the mouths of the two girls. This technique
definitely enforces voyeurism as it is sexualising the two
girls so that they are more attractive towards the
audience. Yet, the whole video is based upon girls having
to bare clothing and they’re line “I’m just a girl in a
country song” shows how they are making mockery of
the need for sexualisation. If men were sexualised is it
the same? This and many other points are what the
visuals and the lyrics are trying to bring across.
5. Overall, I would state that the music video is a performance based video due to the two artists showing off
their singing talents as opposed to bringing across a specific story. They have also included transitions such
as the flashing lights that replicate bright spot lights that would be scene in a barn. This brightens up
their music video and makes it look professional without distracting the viewer from the obvious country
genre.
6. Within the video they have various locations all which
have connotations to being in the countryside. The open
fields representing that even though the two girls are
‘free’ they are being forced to conform to the female girl
band stereotype of baring skin and flaunting your assets.
They want to be different and I find this makes their
great role models for the young people in our society
today. They even turn the back of two trucks into a stage
and they made it look magical. This simple design
concept proves to their fans that they are just like
ordinary girls, sending the message that you do not need
to conform to be successful. As their audience are able
to relate to them it increases their fan base and
promotes their ‘girl next door styles’.
