The document discusses photo selections for different sections of a music magazine.
For the front cover, the photographer chose a photo of a happy girl group to welcome readers and encourage sales. The tallest girls are on the sides with the shortest in the middle for symmetry.
For the contents page, one photo features a singer holding a guitar to draw in music fans. Another candid shot of the girl group's natural reaction was chosen to show their interesting side.
A third contents photo captures the girls looking shocked for a caption with shocking news. Their hand gestures clearly show their stunned emotion.
The double page spread photo features the serious expressions of the girl group in an angled shot that draws the reader in and
1. Here are the final
photos I have
decided to use in my
music magazine
2. Front cover
I have chosen this photograph for my front cover
as the girls all look happy and this will welcome
the target audience and encourage them to buy
the magazine. The girls look happy and relaxed
together which shows they are a close girl group
and the target audience may be interested to
find out more about them. I also chose this
photograph because of the position and angle I
have taken it from. As the girl in the middle was
the shortest I positioned her in the middle with
the taller girls either side, creating a symmetrical
reflection which I thought looked professional.
The angle has also been taken slightly above eye
level which I think looks effective and helps get
more of the two girls on the sides into the shot. I
also chose for the girls to do a certain action with
their hands as this looks more interesting and
helps the girl group stand out from other front
covers with a simple posed photograph.
The microphone prop has also been used to
clarify the magazine is a music magazine and the
girls are from a girl group. Another reason I
chose this photograph was because of the space
at the top, which meant I had enough room to
position a bold masthead.
3. Contents page
I chose this image for my contents page as the girl looks really happy, which again creates a
welcoming impression for my magazine. I wanted this image to show a singer as I have
already featured a girl group. I like the angle of the photograph and I feel the guitar and the
girl have been positioned well together, whilst also looking realistic. The blue clothing in
this photograph stands out and creates a suitable contrast with the guitar, as the guitar also
stands out. The blue clothing also goes well with my colour scheme. Another reason I have
chosen this photo is because the backdrop is plain and doesn’t interfere with the singer. I
chose to use a guitar as a prop as this would draw the audience in as they are interested in
music and may be interested in musicians who can play the guitar.
4. Contents page
Although this was an unplanned and
spontaneous photo, I really liked how it turned
out. I chose to include this in my contents page
as it is shows the natural side to the girl group,
when they are not posing for the camera. I
thought using a posed photograph may show
repetitiveness through their photo shoot and the
audience may become bored. This natural shot
also shows a more interesting side to them as
they are clearly interested by something, this
may draw the target audience as they may want
to find out the reason to the expression on the
girls faces. Another reason I chose this
photograph was because I thought it would look
good with a caption featuring a rhetorical
question next to it, as this would grab the
readers attention. A posed photograph may not
work with a rhetorical question. I also like this
photograph as I chose for the girl on the left to
stand up and I like how this has turned out as it
demonstrates a variety of different heights with
the two other girls at different heights too.
5. Contents page
For this image I wanted the girls to look
shocked as I was planning to caption it
with some shocking news. I like this
photograph as I feel it captures them
looking this way. I chose for the girls to use
their hands to suggest they were shocked
as well as just their facial expression and I
think this works well as it demonstrates
how stunned they are and the audience
can easily indentify their emotion. I also
like how I have taken this photograph at
eye level with the girls looking straight into
the camera, as this makes the reader feel
more involved as they look as if they are
looking straight at you. I am also happy
with the backdrop of this image as it is
different to all my other images and this
will add a difference when my
photographs are positioned together as
they won’t appear repetitive.
6. Double page spread
I really liked this photograph as the facial expressions shown by the girl group all look serious and
professional. I thought this would be suitable for my double page spread as it shows a different side
to the girl group and that they can be serious at times. I like how this photo hasn’t been taken straight
on like all my other images, instead it has been taken at an angle with the girls all looking into the
camera, which is another feature I like as it addresses the reader and draws them in. I also choose this
image as I am happy with the way they girls are positioned, with the girl on the left standing up. I
think my article will work well around the horizontal shape of the girls bodies. I am also happy with
this photograph as the wall can act as a backdrop and I think this will look effective once positioned
onto my double page spread.
