The Role Of An Aging Population In The United States
The United States' population over 65 years of age is increasing as the baby boomers reach
retirement age. Greater life expectancy is a result of people living longer with better nutrition,
healthcare, and management of chronic diseases. In the primary care setting, where I work, we have
a large patient population of older adults. Caring for middle–aged and elderly patients requires
greater time and intensity than caring for most younger patients. It is not unusual for an elderly
patient to have six or more chronic conditions and twelve or more prescription medications which
require coordination and monitoring. Updated HIPAA consents and Health Care Proxy documents
are essential to providing seamless care. Since primary care involves repeated encounters with
patients over time, I am quite familiar with many of my patients and their families and, when
appropriate, assist families to assure that these are documents are current. Additionally, I have had
personal experience caring for an aging family member. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

commitment that we made to do this. In hindsight, despite the difficulties, this was the best decision

Demographics of the Aging Population
The aging population is one the most rapidly increasing issue across the nation today. According to
demographic data, it has been gradually developing over the last two hundred years. It has become a
factor in many countries. The aging population is a result of declining humanity, longevity, and
decreasing fertility with fewer young people. As the population ages there will be a major strain on
the budget of the government, because more health care service are being used by people of sixty–
five than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A wellness program can be done at home costing very little to nothing extra, whereas, without the
wellness program the diabetic would end up on expensive medication and needing to see their
doctor on a regular basis and may even be hospitalized or result in having a limb removed or loss of
vision. This means, without the wellness program, a chronic illness can become very costly.
When it come to the demographics of the aging population on the marketing needs and service,
patient access to care and satisfaction sometimes suffers. Providing refined services to the patients
brought on new pressure for advancement. Unlike health care, the cost of production decreased with
technology improvements in other industries. Health care organization has been faced with large
capital expenditures in order to keep up with technology to provide better health care services.
Physicians and hospitals have had to find ways to provide services and technologies that is more
cost effective. There have been times that a patient has been handed off from department to another
and from one specialist to another with little regards to the patient's understanding. Patients have
had to wait longer to see the doctor.
Addressing the challenges that the aging population is facing has become more signification as time
expands. The need for more health care will increase as the

Ageing Population And The Aging Population
Introduce the topic of the aging population and the ways in which people are trying to look and feel
younger and healthier. The world is ageing rapidly. People aged 60 and older make up 12.3 per cent
of the global population, and by 2050, that number will rise to almost 22 per cent according to the
United Nations Population Fund (UNPF). In the United States of America, the older population
defined as persons 65 years or older numbered 46.2 million in 2014.They represented 14.5% of the
U.S. population, about one in every seven Americans. By 2060, there will be about 98 million older
persons, more than twice their number in 2014.

Many products are competing to offer magic formulas that will reverse the ageing process. These
advertisements are speaking to the battle with calls to defy aging. Offering 'instant' solutions –
enumerated consumer perceptions not a brand communication but recorded in the advertisements
through to the effects of aging that speak to the fear of flaws that need to fixed. Others go as far as to
suggest that they transform more than just the skin.
The adverts, also suggest solutions that can halt the effects of aging. Even through showing a virtual
mirror to youth in another person suggesting magic as well.
All the advertisements evoke the symbolism of the 'fountain of youth' or the transformative
symbolism of energy in making people immortal. Consequently, this advertisements use science and
DNA aesthetics to persuade the audiences of the efficacy of their 'regenerating' or 'reactivating'
properties.

Date – Dec 3rd, 2014 Over the past few decades, vantage point of our modern society has been
changed about aging population. There are huge differences between past and present social view of
point for aging population. In modern society, people have thought about aging population that they
are burden for their present as well as future life. There are many facts such as country economy,
health care issue, economic challenge, social changes and so on, which support these modern
thinking of society. But, this is universal fact that after twenty four hours, each present day (today)
become past day (yesterday). It is also true that because of aging people like grandparent and
parents, young generations are here. In their young age if older people have thought like this, its
result something else and might be young generation do not get what they have now. So, as a human
being, modern society must give as well as show respect to aging population like how older society
gave and also show respect to their aging population. Firstly, modern society have thought that
aging population have effect over country's economy. Living

The Problem Of Aging Population
An aging population is a population with an increased median age due to an increase in life
expectancy, accompanied by a decrease in fertility rates. This phenomena is already occurring in
other countries, and the United States is expected to undergo a similar demographic shift. The
population of citizens aged 65 and over is projected to double in the next few decades, from 43.1
million in 2012, to 83.7 million in 2050, and life expectancy is expected to rise at the same time
(Ortman, Velkoff, Hogan, & others, 2014). The most important consequence of this is an increase in
the percentage of older people from 13% to 20%. An increase of these amount while seemingly
insignificant is going to pose a significant burden on the societal support systems set in place to help
older individuals. These burden while widespread across different departments, is poised to heavily
impact a healthcare climate that is already stretched to the brink. It is essential for adequate
preparation to be made in form of public policies that plan for the future. The three most important
public policy issues facing the United States are reauthorizing the Older Americans Act, ensuring
long–term services and supports, and health coverage for older individuals. The Older Americans
Act of 1965 was the first comprehensive federal policy directed towards ensuring increased care for
older citizens. It created the Administration on Aging (AoA), National Eldercare Locator Service,

Europe's Aging Population : Europe
Europe's Aging Population
Europe provides a well–documented example of a developed region experiencing an aging
population. Carone et al. (2005) say that over the coming decades, the number of people aged 65
and over in the EU is predicted to double, as a result the old age dependency ratio will change to
2:1, meaning that for every two people of working age there will be one aged 65 or older. The scale
of the aging population is compounded by the region's low fertility, with member states averaging
1.5 children per childbearing woman in 2004, well below the replacement rate. Carone, et al. (2005)
point out that there are cultural and structural reasons for this, including high usage of birth control;
higher female education attainment and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the last 10–15 years, this has become an issue as Europe's elderly population has grown
substantially. In 2014, the over 65's accounted for 18.5% of a 506.8 million EU total (Eurostat,
2015). In 1960, the share of the population aged over 80 was only 1.5%, however, it had risen to
nearly 5% by 2010 (OECD, 2013).
Inward migration is put forward as a potential solution to filling the labour deficit left by aging
populations. For the EU, proposals for a quota of migrants adjusted for each member state's
circumstances could help alleviate the challenges of an ageing population (Ellyatt, 2015). Through
bringing in migrants of working age, Denton and Spenser (2014) suggest that gross domestic
product (GDP) will increase; they note additionally that bringing in families will help boost fertility
rates and therefore mitigate the challenges of an aging population over time. However, these
proposals have been met with criticism. Despite being dated, Coleman (2000 and 2001) said that
encouraging migration is only a short term fix. In order to ease the issues of population aging, the
rates of immigration would have to be so high that the cultural, social and political side effects of
altering the composition of the host population would outweigh any potential benefits. For example,
it is noted by Kassam, et al. (2015) that Germany would need an average of 533,000 imigrants every
year to offset its shortage of workers. The likely

Canada's Aging Population
Canada is on the verge of running into a large increase in the number of elderly people who will
need quality health care in the next few years. In fact, in the report "Canada's population estimates:
Age and sex, 2014", (Statistics Canada Demography Division 2014) it states that, "on July 1, 2014,
15.7% of Canada's population (nearly one in six Canadians) was aged 65 and older... Furthermore,
seniors would account for between 24% and 28% of the population by the year 2063". This report
targets the challenges the elderly population in Canada face in their health care system, how these
issues are going to get worse with the expected aging population, as well as some possible

In the article "Don't Seniors Deserve Better?" (MacQueen, K. 2011), MacQueen writes that many
elderly patients in the midst of a medical crisis go straight to the hospital and stay there, tied to
machines, consuming high–tech resources to little effect, growing weaker until the dim hope of a
nursing home bed is made available. He also continues by saying that elderly citizens suffer a five
percent functional decline for every day in hospital. This is a great issue; the fact being that Canada
does not have enough long term facilities for the elderly population to stay in nursing homes is not
being fair to the seniors of Canada. In fact, (MacQueen K. 2011) remarks, that each day in Canada,
7550 hospital beds are filled with the elderly who should be in long–term care nursing homes or in
rehabilitation, yet they cannot get this option. Also, outside of the hospital, many elderly people run
into the financial crisis of caring for their medical needs without the help of the Canadian
Government. In the article "The unexpected costs of caring for your elderly parents" (Leong, M.
2014) Peter Silin says, "People think the government will pay for home care and nursing homes
which they will, but that help is really limited." In fact, "Seven in 10 caregivers were providing
some sort of financial assistance to their parents or aging relatives, a 2012 BMO survey suggested,
and half of these individuals said they had to adjust their own retirement plans as a result." (Leong,
M. 2014). With that, it costs $1,000 to keep a person in a hospital bed for a day, long term care costs
$130 a day, and home care costs $55 dollars a day. (Simpson, C., Caissie M., Velji, K. 2015). After
looking at the negative impacts of keeping our elderly in the hospitals, as MacQueen stated earlier,
"elderly citizens suffer a five

Japan And Australia On Population Aging
The Responses of Japan and Australia on Population Aging
As time goes on, more and more countries come into population aging period. Population aging
means the ratio of 65 years or above is over 7%, or the ratio of 60 years old or above is over 10%.
Japan has the most serious aging problem in the world, and as predicted, after several decades there
will be no Japanese populations without taking response measures. Australia also faces with the
population aging problem during recent several years. Aging will lead to the declining of economic
growth and the increasing of pension burden. This essay focuses on comparing the similarities and

Those aged above 65 have enlarged from 26.5 million in 2006 to 29.47 million in 2011 (Yoshiko,
2015). By the end of this decade, for each child under 15 years old, he has to support three
pensioners (Patrick, 2010). The birth rate of Japan drops a lot since the 21st century, so the children
and working–aged cohorts experience a sharp decrease, and the elder experience a sharp increase.
Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (2011) believes that after a few years, the first group of the
baby boomers will reach their retirement age, which will cause a great increase in the debt, deficits,
and deflation of Japanese government. In order to support its aging population, Japan has to increase
its workforce and productivity. With Japan losing its workforce gradually, it is hard to keep its status
as an economic superpower.
The aged 65 and older population in Australia is about 2.5 million in 2002, which covers about 12
percent of the total population of Australia. However, the number is predicted to increase to about
4.2 million in 2021, which covers about 18 percent of the total Australian population (Department of
Infrastructure and Regional Development, 2005). Now, 14.3% of Tasmania population is over 65
years old and 14.9% of South Australian population is over 65 years old (ABS, 2010). As predicted

Population Aging
Population aging is a term used to describe a country that has rising life expectancy and declining
fertility rates. Populations age when both fertility and mortality rates are low, less people are being
borna nd less people are dieing. This phenomenon of a larger proportion of older population is
happening in many countries and placing a burden on the younger population to support them. One
of the country's experiencing this is Italy. Italy lies on the southern part of Europe, like it's capital
Rome it is home to many ancient ruins and landmarks. It is home to 61.85 million (July, 2015)

Population aging is important to study because it raises concerns about health care can affect the
society economically. In this paper we will look at different tables and figures to show how Italy is
undergoing population aging. Population pyramids are often used to show age and sex structure of a
country's population. It shows the distribution of age groups within a population which forms the
shape of a pyramid. The population is along the horizontal axis, with males on the left and females
on the right. The gender population are in 5–year age groups represented as horizontal bars along the
vertical axis, with youngest age groups at the bottom and the oldest at the top. The shape of the
pyramid changes over time based on a few trends like fertility and mortality. In this paper these
pyramids will be used to illustrate how Italy is undergoing population aging. In figure 1 below the
35–54 cohort has the largest age structure and will eventually be more dependent than the
generations before them. This creates a burden placed on the younger generations that will have to
provide economically for a larger cohort than themselves. The shape of figure 1 at the bottom ,
shows a small cohort of people ages 0–25, this age group is one of the smallest in the age structure.
This is evidence of population aging, this shows that the majority of the population is older than the
age of 25, so the population is clearly aging. The pyramid shows

Population Of The Aging Workforce
Executive Summary
Population of the aging workforce will continue to increase and it is important to understand the
advantages of older workers in an oragnisation and the implications (Bockman & Sirotnik, 2008).
Many employers regard older workers as hinders or obstacles to growth and development of
organisations (Kunze, Boehem & Bruch, 2013). This report firstly introduces the perceptions of
older workers and discuses the stereotypes that older workers are less productive than younger
workers. This report addresses the common issues of the aging population in the workforce and its
misconceptions of older workers in a telecommunication oragnisation that callout and call–ins
customers and door to door sales. In addition, demonstrates possible solutions and implications to
reduce misconception and poor performance from older workers by creating supportive and
encouraging environments that also allows older workers to participate in learning, training and
development. The findings of this report revealed that the misconception of younger workers were
more productive and performed better than older workers were proven false. Furthermore, the
results revealed that older workers were as capable in performing as effectively as younger workers.
Further recommendations were needed to ensure that practical implementation and methods are
taken to improve the quality of the work environment for older workers by following the S.M.A.R.T
principle.

"Population ageing is both a triumph and a challenge" (Lim, 2008). With the advances in economics
and medical development as well as better health systems, Singaporeans now are having longer life
expectancy than they used to have in the past. Current research has shown that Singapore is one of

The health care system within the country has been upgraded to cater to the seniors. This is to
provide a complete and affordable health care system for the elderly. These care systems or places
can be easily accessed, afforded and directed to many different needs faced by the elderly. For
example, building more hospitals so that they can be easily accessible and topping up of the
Medisave accounts, when there is a surplus, for the less well–off Singaporeans as the priority
(Sadasivan and Osman, 2006).
Research has shown that most seniors will want to live independently. By "enabling ageing–in–
place" (Lee, 2009), the government improves the infrastructures, such as the Housing Development
Board (HDB) buildings, and public transport system. These improvements will enable them to move
around freely and easily and they will find it easier to gain ace to public amenities with the elderly–
friendly transport system.
From the researches done, it can be seen that the problem of ageing is a norm for economic
developed countries. The shift in age structure will have an effect on the country's economy.
However, this problem can be solved by having policies that benefit both the elderly as well as the
country. "We are crafting new policies, improving our infrastructure and developing effective
programs to enable older citizens to lead full and happy lives" (Lee, 2009). The government ensures

The Canada 's Aging Population
The Canada's aging population, those 55 years and older, stands at 30.8% of the Canada's total. This
segment of Canada's population is growing due to demographic factors such as births and deaths
rates, health and immigration, and will continue to grow for the next 50 years. Because of advances
in medicine, health and nutrition, Canadians are living longer and are more active. Many of them
too, have more disposable income than earlier generations of aged population. They see themselves
as "alive, active and accomplishing", and higher percentage of are working into older age. They
have significant and varied, current, new and changing needs for services, some age specific, in the
areas of sports, exercise, activity and active recreation. To date, there has not been an adequate focus
on addressing the sporting and activity needs of the aged in Canada by federal or provincial
governments nor by professional sports organizations. Why is that? What can be done to change it?
What is aging anyway? The term "aging" refers to a complex process of biological, physical,
psychological and social changes in a person as he/ she ages over their lifetime. Typically, the term
refers to older adults and takes on the meaning of the process of "getting old" and "being old". It
relates not only to how individuals live, act and perceive themselves, but also to society's culture

Aging Population and Government Intervention
Part A: Rationale and Theoretical Review
i) Background and formation of the issue
According to the UN World Health Organization definition of aging over 65 years as "elderly",
when the population of a region or country, the ratio of the elderly more than 7%, referred to as
"aging society."
ii) Give evidence to illustrate the influence of the global issue
 The world's population is ageing rapidly. Between 2000 and 2050, the proportion of the world's
older adults is estimated to double from about 11% to 22%. In absolute terms, this is an expected
increase from 605 million to 2 billion people over the age of 60.
iii) 2 Reasons to explain the choice of the global issue
 If the advanced countries the existing retirement protection system is not adjusted, it will pose a
serious financial blow States.
 Older people face special physical and mental health challenges. The 2013–14 Budget report in
Hong Kong has mentioned the need to cope with an aging population and long–term public
spending surged problem. The recurrent expenditure on medical and health services for 2013–14
will reach $49 billion, an increase of $2.7 billion over 2012–13.The bulk of the additional funding is
for new recurrent allocation to the Hospital Authority (HA) to enhance and expand appropriate
public medical services.

Aging Population A Growing Challenge
Minarechova, Radka. "Aging population a growing challenge." Slovak Spectator 08 Sept. 2014: 12.
Newspaper Source. Web. 18 Nov. 2015.
In this article, Radka Minarechová addresses the growing challenges associated with the fastest
aging population in one of the European Union countries, known as Slovakia. As the elderly
population increased, the productive working age deceased, which caused the country to suffer
greatly based on their involvement in employment, society, independent living and aging
prevention. It becomes clear that the country was not prepared to solve problems dealing with aging.
As a result, it is shown that discrimination towards the elderly by the others within the population is
discovered within specific areas such as health care and employment. With the retirement age at 62,
the more individuals requesting for pensions, the greater the effect on the contribution to the funds
necessary for the benefit of the recipient, especially healthcare. The subject of aging is highly
relevant to Zimmerman's article. The need to improve the aging phases every individual experiences
is a serious issue that can be resolved or reduced. Although Minarechová's argument does not focus
directly on the health concerns dealing with aging, but the author touched the important subject of
how it can affect our population rather than benefit us as a society. Not only is the topic relevant to
Zimmerman's argument but it was written around the same time. Therefore, there is a high

Population Aging In The United States
The world population is growing older; it is going to have an enormous impact on public and private
interests. Between 2012–2050, the United States will experience considerable growth in its more
elderly population. The US Census project that by the year 2030 the population of individuals aged
65 and over will be reached approximately 73 billion. It generates social and economic difficulties
such as the tendency of economic growth, the workforce, health care system, immigration, and
pension system (Ortman et al). Population aging is present in every country both developed and
developing country; people are living longer than their previous generations. "In 2012, the United
States had the largest number of people in the oldest–old age category among developed countries"

Impacts of an Aging Population
The impacts of an aging population on a country
An aging population is where the population of a country is of a high elderly dependence. There are
three main ways to split the ways they are sorted and these are Social, the ways in which the elderly

the politics of a country, and finally, economic, the ways in which the elderly population affect the
wealth of the country.

This will save the government a small percentage of money but not a great amount. The pension age
for women is going to be raised from 60 to 65 between 2010 and 2020 and the pension age for both
men and women will be raised to 68 in 2044. The government also plans to get rid of the fixed
retirement age, meaning that employers will no longer be able to dismiss staff at the age of 65. The
government also plans to make it easier for older people to get jobs by controlling age–
discrimination. This will get older people into work but not for a great deal of time and therefore just
prolongs the issue rather than solving it. The UK have in place a replacement migration scheme, this
is where younger workers from overseas are used to fill skill gaps in the UK workforce. The UK
encourages foreigners to come and work here. Around 80% of immigrants from new EU countries in
2004 were 34 or under, they come to work and in doing so fill skill gaps and pay taxes. This greatly
increases the government's income and helps pay for state pensions. It also reduces the dependency
ratio largely. However, it does cause friction between the British people and the immigrants, as there
is a general distrust and feeling of malicious intent.

The aging population has increasing and decreasing effects on health care today. Some effects are
minor and some are major. They all are transforming, or eventually going to transform, health care.
Some increasing effects that the aging population has made on health care today are obesity, falls,
financial demands caused by the baby boomer era, and life expectancy. A decreasing effect that the
aging population has made on health care today is the prevalence of disability. There are many other

These hospitals and caring centers that lacks these specific assets make the elderly worried that they

People are living longer than they were 20 or 30 years ago; very few of physicians have the
expertise to care for aging patients. Because of longer life expectancies; the need for additional
health care workers continues to rise. Many of today's physicians, nurses or other hospital staff are
also of the baby boomer age group as well. As this group of individuals starts to retire themselves;
this will place an even greater burden on a system

Elderly Adults : An Aging Population
Elderly adults will always be present. If the average age span of the elderly rises, then changes will
be made in numerous areas. An aging population calls for a changing nation. Many advantages
come with a large elderly population, yet several disadvantages come in tow as well. If that
population begins to live exceeding the average lifespan of past records, then numerous
accommodations will need to be made. These arrangements will ultimately have an effect on
surrounding age groups. Although now looking at the repercussions of significant numbers of
elderly existing at the same time can seem very dramatic, years from now as these changes are made
and put into action they will grow on society and possibly benefit the nation as a whole. Change
involves work, and as that work is dealt with eventually growth will occur.
An aging population calls for a changing nation. The number of older adults continues to grow, soon
to be the fastest growing age group. When one overrides the other, the goods and services change to
those needed by that particular age group. Many advantages come with a large elderly population,
yet several disadvantages come in tow as well. If that population begins to live exceeding the
average lifespan of past records, then numerous accommodations will need to be made. These
arrangements will ultimately have an effect on surrounding age groups.
The nation shows many concerns about the growing number of persons 65 years and over living

The Aging Population Analysis
The older population is categorized into three distinct classes: young–old, old–old, and oldest–old.
As presented by Hooyman and Kiyak (2011) on page 18, in figure 1.5, the young–old is from the
ages of 65–74, the old–old is from the ages of 75–84, and the oldest–old are from the ages of 85 and
older. The figure on page 18, shows us how much more the older population will grow between
2008 and 2050, each group is significantly growing, but the oldest–old seems to be growing the
fastest among the three groups. According to Hooyman and Kiyak (2011) this is due primarily to the
development in medicine, public hygiene, and health care. While further investigating the growth of
the older population we will examine changing life expectancies between ... Show more content on

is rising more by each generation. This advancement is greatly affecting the field of gerontology
(Hooyman and Kiyak, 2011). A vastly growing practice area that is much needed because by the
middle of the 21st century, more than 40% of Americans age 65 and older can expect to live to at
least 90 (Gonyeathe, 2013). This is a major advancement since 1900, when the average life
expectancy in the U.S. was around 47 years old, and from 47 to today's 78.1 years (Hooyman and
Kiyak, 2011). When Hooyman and Kiyak (2011) examined the life expectancies from 1990 and
2005, they noticed a decline in the older population mostly because of low birthrates experienced
during the 1920s and 1930s; however, they expect a rise in this age population because most of the
baby boomers will be turning 60 in the years following. During U.S. events like the 1930s Great
Depression, and the late 1940s and early 1960s baby boomers years, these historical events has
shifted the demographics of the older population. The advancement of old age is a huge milestone
today, and as this extremely diverse population continues to grow associated risk factors are
assumed to follow such as economic hardship, and disabling illnesses or health conditions for the

The Benefits Of Aging Population
It is suggested that at the rate we are going now we won't be able to accommodate the needs of an
aging population as it continually grows. I argue that this is true based on the numbers from the
research I have done. I argue for the reasons of manning in health care, money, health and the
economy with a large population getting older and ready to retire that we are going to potentially
face some serious problems. At the rate our aging population is growing I believe we will not have
enough people and facilities to take care of the aging population once they need health care for
things that come with old. The populations of most western countries are getting older, mainly the
Baby Boomers, born in the 1950s and 1960s. They live longer and had fewer children than previous
generations. (Irman, 2017). Population aging of this dimension is unique in world history. Because
of this it will pose serious challenges for the health care systems, pension schemes, and public debt
management of modern societies. (Irman, 2017), "The problem is that population aging is itself a
cause for a decline in both GDP and per–capita GDP". (Irman, 2017, p. 3). If you have less people in
the workforce than before that's less people paying taxes and buying goods and services. There
could be less money going into the government and more coming out for older folks for things like
Social Security and Medicare. The aging population is growing and so is the population of people

Canada's Aging Population Essay
Canada, along with many other nations, is currently faced with an aging population. In Canada
seniors are the fastest growing age group and make more then half of the population. And the
numbers of older adults are higher in rural areas than in urban areas (Menec et al., 2015). Rural
communities exist throughout Canada where there are large aging populations and higher number of
children, but there are fewer working individuals as compared to urban communities (Menec et al.,
2015). Many rural areas are aging more quickly than its urban counterparts as many choose to move
to a rural community for the slow pace of life, attractive scenery and smaller community areas
(Spina & Menec, 2015, Menec et al., 2015). Rural seniors challenged with issue ... Show more

Thus, such communities will require the appropriate conditions to handle the needs of the aging. In
terms of physical environment, this includes such features as safety, open spaces to promote
walking, and age–appropriate leisure activities Seniors in rural communities identified the need of
"walkable" sidewalks or accessible buildings as it not only supported older people in the form of
physical exercise but also easier commute to attend social or personal needs (Public Health Canada,
2009). In a Study by Bascu et al, in 2012 about 40 percent of seniors experienced fall and related
functional limitation. The study revealed that seniors' safety and security concerns tend to relate
more to a poor physical environment which adds to the number of accidents, including falls and
complications. Seasonal conditions such as icy, wet pathways that hinder mobility increase fall and
isolation. Creating a safe physical environment enables seniors to live independently and recreate
personal identity in the face of the challenges of aging (Keating, Swindle & Fletcher, 2011). It may,
however, be challenging to create this environment. An underlying issue is that funding is needed to
ensure the availability of the resources

The Aging Population Of America
Introduction
The aging population in America is growing quickly and is projected to double by the year 2050.
The current growth in the number and proportion of older adults in the United States is
unprecedented in our nation's history. By 2050, it is anticipated that Americans aged 65 or older will
number nearly 89 million people (The State of Aging and Health in America, 2013). Along with this
increase in the aging population, it is estimated that by the year 2020, 157 million Americans will
have some form of chronic illness (Taking Care: Ethical Caregiving in Our Society, 2005). With
advances in medicine, people are able to live longer lives with chronic illnesses that in the past
resulted in a decreased life expectancy.
In addition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To compensate for this, many are looking towards helping older adults stay in their home for as long
as possible, even if they experience functional or cognitive impairments. This idea is known as
aging in place. In the USA, 95% of adults over the age of 75 want to age in place. There are benefits
and challenges to aging in place. The benefits of aging in place are that it improves perceived
quality of life and is cost–effective, whereas the challenges include declines in cognitive and
functional abilities of older adults, as well as time pressures on formal and informal caregivers who
must visit older adults in their homes throughout the community (Connelly, Laghari, Mokhtari, &
Falk, 2014).
Fortunately, there are technologies that can assist with aging in place. These technologies produce
better health outcomes, lower caregiver burden, and save money over the life of the individual.
There are several types of technologies which will be discussed in this paper, which include
technologies that provide education and support social networking, technologies that support
monitoring and management of health and well–being, and chronic conditions, and finally
technologies that support interactions with the healthcare system (Marchibroda, 2015). This research
paper will show that the use of technology will greatly benefit the elderly population in helping
them to age in place.

Aging Population In Canada
A rapidly aging population and declining birth rate present a problem to policymakers as far as
dynamic demand drivers in the economy, increase in health care costs, reduction in the working age
population and unsustainable pension commitments are concerned (Beaujot, & Ravanera, 2013).
This is the major socio–economic problem that is being witnessed in the province of Quebec,
Canada. The standards of living of the people in the province have been greatly affected as the issue
intensifies. Aging population has significantly affected economic development in the province as the
government tends to focus more resources on tackling the issue instead of concentrating on more
progressive projects. This paper provides an opinion based analysis on the problem of aging
population and declining birth rate in the province of Quebec in Canada.
Low population in Quebec has been something that the province has been facing. This is because of
the continuous drop in the number of births coupled with the rapidly aging population. According to
the provincial statistics bureau, 1.6 children per woman was witnessed in 2015 which is a drop by
one percent compared to the 2014 statistics. The birth rate of the province has been going down
from the year 2009. The fertility rate of the province was 1.60 in the year 2016 (Beaujot, &
Ravanera, 2013). This problem of low birth rate puts the future generation at risk and it has already
affected the economy of the province.

The Importance Of The Aging Population In The United States

population has become one of the most worrying issues in THE UNITED STATES. Their progress,

some fear not only in the political field but also at the academic level. With a background dominated
by medicine, economics, psychology, demography, sociology and other sciences (social and health)

Social definition of aging and the elderly It is considered 'senior' to any person who is 65 or older.
However, it is necessary to warn about the arbitrariness of this decision: why are not estimated 60
years, or 70, as the lower limit when classifying this population group?. The relieved exercise of
combining from the age of 65 to the elderly with the retirees cannot be taken as a solid criterion
since it has become a common practice in our societies to invite many workers to leave the labor
market at a later age early; not forgetting that there are plenty of people who never retire because,
either materially or formally, they have never been inserted in such a market. In any case, does
anyone who has 65 years of age respond to the same sociological profile (characteristics such as his
health, educational level, economic position, family network, even his appearance) than the one who
had the same age a couple of decades ago ?. Absolutely. In addition to being arbitrary, it is an
artificial decision because no one gets up one–morning being 'adult' and the next 'older' for the mere

Aging Population Issues Paper
I believe the most pressing issue facing the aging population on a daily basis is financial security
while living on a fixed income. Aging individuals' sources of income include Social Security,
employment, private pensions, and assets. The median household income for those 65 and older in
2007 was only $27, 798 (Hooyman & Kiyak, 2011). I chose financial security as the most pressing
issue facing the older population because it influences several other areas. Sources of income for the
aging population are sometimes insufficient to maintain proper housing, may cause health problems,
and restricts access to nursing homes and assisted living facilities. The difficulty that the lack of
financial security can pose for an aging individual leads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A variety of long–term care options are available to those who require more assistance. Assisted–

available options for seniors. Living in these residencies may address several other issues such as
isolation, transportation, and mobility. These types of facilities focus on providing assistance with
daily living activities for the elderly while still allowing them to be independent. Residents also have
ample opportunities to socialize in common spaces such as dining rooms and living rooms.
However, these facilities are often expensive and must be paid for privately. As a result, the option
for living in these helping facilities may be out of reach for the elderly with a fixed income (Hash,

The Demography Of Aging Population In China
Demography of aging
In 2017, the world population is at 7.5 billion people. China is the most populated country in whole
world. It has "1.379 billion" (Google) people making it the largest populated country. China is also
the most largest aging population making it have a high life expectancy and the high accelerating
aging rate in the world (Zheng, 2012). China has advanced with technology and also with age. Only
"three decades ago, only 5 percent of the populations was over 65; today, 123 million people, or 9
percent of the population, are over this age which a report released by the government states that
China will be the world's' most aged society in 2030" (Huang, 2013). Since, China is the most
largest aging population this means that less people are dying and more are living. Since, more
people are living this means that need of long–term care, health insurance, adjustment of policies
and how to make everyone comfortable living. China is the only country that has an older
population exceeding 100 million and annually increases at a rate of 3.2. A dependent territory of
China is Hong kong that has "7.347 million people" (Google). Hong kong also has a fast growing
aged population. Hong kong is also trying to adjust their long–term care system, pensions system
and policies to accommodate everyone living situation.
` The aging population creates a demographic shift. Since, China has a high aging population it has
affected China culturally, socially and family. Families most important social support is family and
the kin system that helps functioned family roles. As aging increases, fertility decreases due to
families looking for more work and to live their lives doing other things rather than having babies. It
will have a dramatic demographic transition in twenty years. Growing old before affluent. Birth
control has also helped with lowering the birth rate. The demographic structure has also changed. In
1950 it held a perfect pyramid but as time goes on it shows how the youth became a shrinking
population. One strategic solution is the one child policy which helps balance out the rapidly
growing population and to help stimulate development. It restricts family size which help the aging

economically and socially because in order to support the growing number of seniors– we have to

aging state in the country according to the Billing's Gazette. In addition to an already aging state,
Wyoming has been named by national publications as a top place of retirement due to its tax
structure and climate. In an article from the Wyoming Tribune–Eagle, it is predicted that by the year
2020 Wyoming will have the highest percentage of residents over the age of 65. With the rapidly

Medicare is a government program and unlike private insurance companies, it must pay the costs of
any beneficial medical care. From an example in USA Today, they point out that the type of
defibrillator put in Vice President Dick Cheney is expected to become standard care for cardiac
patients. The instillation of the defibrillator, which regulates the heart's electrical rhythms, currently
cost about $30,000. This is expected to cost Medicare $14 billion by 2015, if only half of those
suffering from heart failure received this treatment. This is a major national concern, but due to
Wyoming's rapidly aging population, Medicare will also become a major cost to the state.
Economically, Wyoming is not very diverse. The state's economy is unable to absorb a range of
young or old workers. Natural resources and mining have been the fastest growing jobs in the state,
with an increase of 15.5% according to the Casper Star–Tribune. These jobs require hard physical
labor and are unable to provide significant work to an aging population. According to AARP
economist Clare Hushbeck, people are choosing to work past the customary retirement age of 65.
This is due in part to increased knowledge based jobs instead of hard labor. If Wyoming is able to
follow this national shift toward knowledge based work, the aging residents and influx of retirees
could possibly benefit the state's economy.

Ethical, as defined by Merriam–Webster online dictionary (2016), means right or wrong, or
"following acceptable rules of behavior." The primary concern for many, who oppose scientific
research such as this, is the notion that the scientists are "playing god." In other words, scientists are
messing with the natural process of the world. It could even be argued that if scientists had left well
enough alone, this increase in of individuals in the late adulthood stage of life would not have
occurred; implying that nature or God would have naturally controlled the population. Others, like
myself, might counter that it goes against God to deny the scientific gift of discovery blessed on
some people; that if given the ability to aid people, then it is ones duty to do just that. Some perhaps,
in the middle of the road, could simply question where we drawl the line? Referring back the
definition of ethical (Merriam–Webster online dictionary, 2016), this middle of the road view, may
simply propose the question on if this is acceptable behavior, in other words, what are we willing to

Analysis Of Canada's Aging Population
Canada is experiencing a rapid growth in aging population and it is not going to slow down anytime
soon. In 1851 there were about 65, 000 seniors in Canada and the number in 2014 is 5.57 million.[1]
In 2036 the elders will be over ten million and by 2051 one in every four Canadians will be a senior
[2].
Many believe that the aging population is a big crisis. Aging population does put pressure on the
government limiting financial resources particularly in the healthcare system. Half of the healthcare
system is used by seniors and it is expected to grow. (In–text citation) Another economic impact is
the rise in taxes. If the retirement age doesn't change the people are exceeding the life expectancy

Though average length of hospital stays has decreased for those over 65, their visits to physicians
are over twice as frequent as those under 65. With increases in age, the intensity of using health care
resources increases: Those over 75, though only 5.5 percent of the total population in 1993,
accounted for 28 percent of all hospital days. At the same time, the caregiver population comprised
of both the elderly and non–elderly will be impacted by these changes.
Aging is also an aspect of population dynamics that affects the level of poverty also. As fertility
declines and the population ages, traditional family–based systems for providing old–age care may
weaken, leaving the elderly vulnerable. The income security of older persons is a policy concern not
only in developed countries but increasingly as well in developing countries such as China that have
passed through the demographic transition. Between 2000 and 2050, the proportion of the
population aged 65 and older will have doubled in most developing regions. This exponential
increase in the aging populous could leave that generation drastically vulnerable. Not only would
the health standard be effected but also the income producing majority. Forecasts show that policy
makers must address the impact of our aging population in the next decade to stay ahead of the

Aging Population
There are many key factors that have contributed to the aging of the U.S population. Some of these
factors include the size and composition of the population 27 years and over in 2012 (The U.S
Census Bureau, 2014). Fertility and mortality rates are also determinants of the aging of the U.S
population (The U.S Census Bureau, 2014). This means that the mortality rates will determine the
size of the population and the rate at which population at the older age declines. Immigration is also
another factor, but it has less impact on increasing the population over age 65 as it is shown that
most immigrants are projected to be under age of 40 when they arrive in the United States (The U.S
Census Bureau, 2014). Age and sex composition have also impact

Aging Population : A Global Phenomenon
Introduction
Population aging can be defined as the median age of the population increasing over time. Aging
population is becoming a global phenomenon as the baby boomers are hitting the 65–year mark and
fertility rates are declining. An aging population has become an issue that many countries are having
to face with significant impacts in economic areas. The Canadian population has changed drastically
over the last several years. As the baby boomers (the segment of the population born post World War
II approximately 1946 to 1964) have grown older and become more dependent on health care and
social programs to support their living. The Canadian government has become increasingly
concerned with this global phenomenon as they now must invest more money in health care and
pensions. This trend will continue in time as in 1971 8% of the population was 65 or older compared
to today's statistic of 14.4% of the population being 65 or older. The industrial revolution played a
huge role in the demographic transition of societies and has impacted fertility rates; we have seen a
large decline in fertility within Canada. On the global scale the natural rate of increase is 2.1 births
per women whereas; Canada's current fertility rate is 1.2. This, too, will have implications on
society for the dependent older age sector. Furthermore, the implications of an aging population in
Canada are taking great tolls on the health care sector as many of the demographic require medical
support. In

The Role Of An Aging Population In The United States

  • 1. The Role Of An Aging Population In The United States The United States' population over 65 years of age is increasing as the baby boomers reach retirement age. Greater life expectancy is a result of people living longer with better nutrition, healthcare, and management of chronic diseases. In the primary care setting, where I work, we have a large patient population of older adults. Caring for middle–aged and elderly patients requires greater time and intensity than caring for most younger patients. It is not unusual for an elderly patient to have six or more chronic conditions and twelve or more prescription medications which require coordination and monitoring. Updated HIPAA consents and Health Care Proxy documents are essential to providing seamless care. Since primary care involves repeated encounters with patients over time, I am quite familiar with many of my patients and their families and, when appropriate, assist families to assure that these are documents are current. Additionally, I have had personal experience caring for an aging family member. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We constructed an in–law apartment for her which allowed her to maintain a sense of independence and privacy. Ma, as everyone called her, remained with us for four years before spending her last few months in a skilled nursing facility. Demographics of the Aging Population Running head: DEMOGRAPHICS OF THE AGING POPULATION Demographics of the Aging Population University of Phoenix Health Care Consumer – Trends and Marketing HCS–490 Ann Fairchild July 31, 2011 Demographics of the Aging Population The aging population is one the most rapidly increasing issue across the nation today. According to demographic data, it has been gradually developing over the last two hundred years. It has become a factor in many countries. The aging population is a result of declining humanity, longevity, and decreasing fertility with fewer young people. As the population ages there will be a major strain on the budget of the government, because more health care service are being used by people of sixty– five than ... A wellness program can be done at home costing very little to nothing extra, whereas, without the wellness program the diabetic would end up on expensive medication and needing to see their doctor on a regular basis and may even be hospitalized or result in having a limb removed or loss of vision. This means, without the wellness program, a chronic illness can become very costly. When it come to the demographics of the aging population on the marketing needs and service, patient access to care and satisfaction sometimes suffers. Providing refined services to the patients brought on new pressure for advancement. Unlike health care, the cost of production decreased with technology improvements in other industries. Health care organization has been faced with large capital expenditures in order to keep up with technology to provide better health care services. Physicians and hospitals have had to find ways to provide services and technologies that is more cost effective. There have been times that a patient has been handed off from department to another and from one specialist to another with little regards to the patient's understanding. Patients have had to wait longer to see the doctor. Addressing the challenges that the aging population is facing has become more signification as time expands. • 9. Ageing Population And The Aging Population Introduce the topic of the aging population and the ways in which people are trying to look and feel younger and healthier. The world is ageing rapidly. People aged 60 and older make up 12.3 per cent of the global population, and by 2050, that number will rise to almost 22 per cent according to the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF). In the United States of America, the older population defined as persons 65 years or older numbered 46.2 million in 2014.They represented 14.5% of the U.S. population, about one in every seven Americans. By 2060, there will be about 98 million older persons, more than twice their number in 2014. • 13. Modern Society : Aging Population Singh–1 Sunil kumar singh Professor – Khodayar Farpour College English, EAC 150 FO Date – Dec 3rd, 2014 Over the past few decades, vantage point of our modern society has been changed about aging population. There are huge differences between past and present social view of point for aging population. In modern society, people have thought about aging population that they are burden for their present as well as future life. There are many facts such as country economy, health care issue, economic challenge, social changes and so on, which support these modern thinking of society. But, this is universal fact that after twenty four hours, each present day (today) become past day (yesterday). It is also true that because of aging people like grandparent and parents, young generations are here. In their young age if older people have thought like this, its result something else and might be young generation do not get what they have now. So, as a human being, modern society must give as well as show respect to aging population like how older society gave and also show respect to their aging population. • 17. The Problem Of Aging Population An aging population is a population with an increased median age due to an increase in life expectancy, accompanied by a decrease in fertility rates. This phenomena is already occurring in other countries, and the United States is expected to undergo a similar demographic shift. The population of citizens aged 65 and over is projected to double in the next few decades, from 43.1 million in 2012, to 83.7 million in 2050, and life expectancy is expected to rise at the same time (Ortman, Velkoff, Hogan, & others, 2014). The most important consequence of this is an increase in the percentage of older people from 13% to 20%. An increase of these amount while seemingly insignificant is going to pose a significant burden on the societal support systems set in place to help older individuals. These burden while widespread across different departments, is poised to heavily impact a healthcare climate that is already stretched to the brink. It is essential for adequate preparation to be made in form of public policies that plan for the future. The three most important public policy issues facing the United States are reauthorizing the Older Americans Act, ensuring long–term services and supports, and health coverage for older individuals. The Older Americans Act of 1965 was the first comprehensive federal policy directed towards ensuring increased care for older citizens. It created the Administration on Aging (AoA), National Eldercare Locator Service, National Family Caregiver ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Europe's Aging Population : Europe Europe's Aging Population Europe provides a well–documented example of a developed region experiencing an aging population. Carone et al. (2005) say that over the coming decades, the number of people aged 65 and over in the EU is predicted to double, as a result the old age dependency ratio will change to 2:1, meaning that for every two people of working age there will be one aged 65 or older. The scale of the aging population is compounded by the region's low fertility, with member states averaging 1.5 children per childbearing woman in 2004, well below the replacement rate. Carone, et al. (2005) point out that there are cultural and structural reasons for this, including high usage of birth control; higher female education attainment and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over the last 10–15 years, this has become an issue as Europe's elderly population has grown substantially. In 2014, the over 65's accounted for 18.5% of a 506.8 million EU total (Eurostat, 2015). In 1960, the share of the population aged over 80 was only 1.5%, however, it had risen to nearly 5% by 2010 (OECD, 2013). Inward migration is put forward as a potential solution to filling the labour deficit left by aging populations. For the EU, proposals for a quota of migrants adjusted for each member state's circumstances could help alleviate the challenges of an ageing population (Ellyatt, 2015). Through bringing in migrants of working age, Denton and Spenser (2014) suggest that gross domestic product (GDP) will increase; they note additionally that bringing in families will help boost fertility rates and therefore mitigate the challenges of an aging population over time. However, these proposals have been met with criticism. Despite being dated, Coleman (2000 and 2001) said that encouraging migration is only a short term fix. In order to ease the issues of population aging, the rates of immigration would have to be so high that the cultural, social and political side effects of altering the composition of the host population would outweigh any potential benefits. For example, it is noted by Kassam, et al. (2015) that Germany would need an average of 533,000 imigrants every year to offset its shortage of workers. The likely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Canada's Aging Population Canada is on the verge of running into a large increase in the number of elderly people who will need quality health care in the next few years. In fact, in the report "Canada's population estimates: Age and sex, 2014", (Statistics Canada Demography Division 2014) it states that, "on July 1, 2014, 15.7% of Canada's population (nearly one in six Canadians) was aged 65 and older... Furthermore, seniors would account for between 24% and 28% of the population by the year 2063". This report targets the challenges the elderly population in Canada face in their health care system, how these issues are going to get worse with the expected aging population, as well as some possible improvements that will prepare the health care system of Canada to meet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the article "Don't Seniors Deserve Better?" (MacQueen, K. 2011), MacQueen writes that many elderly patients in the midst of a medical crisis go straight to the hospital and stay there, tied to machines, consuming high–tech resources to little effect, growing weaker until the dim hope of a nursing home bed is made available. He also continues by saying that elderly citizens suffer a five percent functional decline for every day in hospital. This is a great issue; the fact being that Canada does not have enough long term facilities for the elderly population to stay in nursing homes is not being fair to the seniors of Canada. In fact, (MacQueen K. 2011) remarks, that each day in Canada, 7550 hospital beds are filled with the elderly who should be in long–term care nursing homes or in rehabilitation, yet they cannot get this option. Also, outside of the hospital, many elderly people run into the financial crisis of caring for their medical needs without the help of the Canadian Government. In the article "The unexpected costs of caring for your elderly parents" (Leong, M. 2014) Peter Silin says, "People think the government will pay for home care and nursing homes which they will, but that help is really limited." In fact, "Seven in 10 caregivers were providing some sort of financial assistance to their parents or aging relatives, a 2012 BMO survey suggested, and half of these individuals said they had to adjust their own retirement plans as a result." (Leong, M. 2014). With that, it costs $1,000 to keep a person in a hospital bed for a day, long term care costs $130 a day, and home care costs $55 dollars a day. (Simpson, C., Caissie M., Velji, K. 2015). After looking at the negative impacts of keeping our elderly in the hospitals, as MacQueen stated earlier, "elderly citizens suffer a five ... Population aging means the ratio of 65 years or above is over 7%, or the ratio of 60 years old or above is over 10%. Japan has the most serious aging problem in the world, and as predicted, after several decades there will be no Japanese populations without taking response measures. Australia also faces with the population aging problem during recent several years. Aging will lead to the declining of economic growth and the increasing of pension burden. Those aged above 65 have enlarged from 26.5 million in 2006 to 29.47 million in 2011 (Yoshiko, 2015). By the end of this decade, for each child under 15 years old, he has to support three pensioners (Patrick, 2010). The birth rate of Japan drops a lot since the 21st century, so the children and working–aged cohorts experience a sharp decrease, and the elder experience a sharp increase. Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (2011) believes that after a few years, the first group of the baby boomers will reach their retirement age, which will cause a great increase in the debt, deficits, and deflation of Japanese government. In order to support its aging population, Japan has to increase its workforce and productivity. With Japan losing its workforce gradually, it is hard to keep its status as an economic superpower. The aged 65 and older population in Australia is about 2.5 million in 2002, which covers about 12 percent of the total population of Australia. However, the number is predicted to increase to about 4.2 million in 2021, which covers about 18 percent of the total Australian population (Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development, 2005). Now, 14.3% of Tasmania population is over 65 years old and 14.9% of South Australian population is over 65 years old (ABS, 2010). As predicted in 2014, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. The Aging Of Population Aging Sarah Bolduc SOC 438– Aging in Society Prof. Brasher 11/11/2015 Population Aging Population aging is a term used to describe a country that has rising life expectancy and declining fertility rates. Populations age when both fertility and mortality rates are low, less people are being borna nd less people are dieing. This phenomenon of a larger proportion of older population is happening in many countries and placing a burden on the younger population to support them. One of the country's experiencing this is Italy. Italy lies on the southern part of Europe, like it's capital Rome it is home to many ancient ruins and landmarks. Population aging is important to study because it raises concerns about health care can affect the society economically. In this paper we will look at different tables and figures to show how Italy is undergoing population aging. Population pyramids are often used to show age and sex structure of a country's population. It shows the distribution of age groups within a population which forms the shape of a pyramid. The population is along the horizontal axis, with males on the left and females on the right. The gender population are in 5–year age groups represented as horizontal bars along the vertical axis, with youngest age groups at the bottom and the oldest at the top. The shape of the pyramid changes over time based on a few trends like fertility and mortality. In this paper these pyramids will be used to illustrate how Italy is undergoing population aging. In figure 1 below the 35–54 cohort has the largest age structure and will eventually be more dependent than the generations before them. This creates a burden placed on the younger generations that will have to provide economically for a larger cohort than themselves. The shape of figure 1 at the bottom , shows a small cohort of people ages 0–25, this age group is one of the smallest in the age structure. This is evidence of population aging, this shows that the majority of the population is older than the age of 25, so the population is clearly aging. The pyramid shows ... Population Of The Aging Workforce Executive Summary Population of the aging workforce will continue to increase and it is important to understand the advantages of older workers in an oragnisation and the implications (Bockman & Sirotnik, 2008). Many employers regard older workers as hinders or obstacles to growth and development of organisations (Kunze, Boehem & Bruch, 2013). This report firstly introduces the perceptions of older workers and discuses the stereotypes that older workers are less productive than younger workers. This report addresses the common issues of the aging population in the workforce and its misconceptions of older workers in a telecommunication oragnisation that callout and call–ins customers and door to door sales. In addition, demonstrates possible solutions and implications to reduce misconception and poor performance from older workers by creating supportive and encouraging environments that also allows older workers to participate in learning, training and development. The findings of this report revealed that the misconception of younger workers were more productive and performed better than older workers were proven false. Furthermore, the results revealed that older workers were as capable in performing as effectively as younger workers. Further recommendations were needed to ensure that practical implementation and methods are taken to improve the quality of the work environment for older workers by following the S.M.A.R.T principle. With the advances in economics and medical development as well as better health systems, Singaporeans now are having longer life expectancy than they used to have in the past. This is to provide a complete and affordable health care system for the elderly. These care systems or places can be easily accessed, afforded and directed to many different needs faced by the elderly. For example, building more hospitals so that they can be easily accessible and topping up of the Medisave accounts, when there is a surplus, for the less well–off Singaporeans as the priority (Sadasivan and Osman, 2006). Research has shown that most seniors will want to live independently. These improvements will enable them to move around freely and easily and they will find it easier to gain ace to public amenities with the elderly– friendly transport system. From the researches done, it can be seen that the problem of ageing is a norm for economic developed countries. The shift in age structure will have an effect on the country's economy. However, this problem can be solved by having policies that benefit both the elderly as well as the country. This segment of Canada's population is growing due to demographic factors such as births and deaths rates, health and immigration, and will continue to grow for the next 50 years. Because of advances in medicine, health and nutrition, Canadians are living longer and are more active. Many of them too, have more disposable income than earlier generations of aged population. They see themselves as "alive, active and accomplishing", and higher percentage of are working into older age. They have significant and varied, current, new and changing needs for services, some age specific, in the areas of sports, exercise, activity and active recreation. To date, there has not been an adequate focus on addressing the sporting and activity needs of the aged in Canada by federal or provincial governments nor by professional sports organizations. Why is that? What can be done to change it? What is aging anyway? The term "aging" refers to a complex process of biological, physical, psychological and social changes in a person as he/ she ages over their lifetime. Typically, the term refers to older adults and takes on the meaning of the process of "getting old" and "being old". In this article, Radka Minarechová addresses the growing challenges associated with the fastest aging population in one of the European Union countries, known as Slovakia. As the elderly population increased, the productive working age deceased, which caused the country to suffer greatly based on their involvement in employment, society, independent living and aging prevention. It becomes clear that the country was not prepared to solve problems dealing with aging. As a result, it is shown that discrimination towards the elderly by the others within the population is discovered within specific areas such as health care and employment. With the retirement age at 62, the more individuals requesting for pensions, the greater the effect on the contribution to the funds necessary for the benefit of the recipient, especially healthcare. The subject of aging is highly relevant to Zimmerman's article. The need to improve the aging phases every individual experiences is a serious issue that can be resolved or reduced. Although Minarechová's argument does not focus directly on the health concerns dealing with aging, but the author touched the important subject of how it can affect our population rather than benefit us as a society. This is a major advancement since 1900, when the average life expectancy in the U.S. was around 47 years old, and from 47 to today's 78.1 years (Hooyman and Kiyak, 2011). When Hooyman and Kiyak (2011) examined the life expectancies from 1990 and 2005, they noticed a decline in the older population mostly because of low birthrates experienced during the 1920s and 1930s; however, they expect a rise in this age population because most of the baby boomers will be turning 60 in the years following. • 89. The Benefits Of Aging Population It is suggested that at the rate we are going now we won't be able to accommodate the needs of an aging population as it continually grows. I argue that this is true based on the numbers from the research I have done. I argue for the reasons of manning in health care, money, health and the economy with a large population getting older and ready to retire that we are going to potentially face some serious problems. At the rate our aging population is growing I believe we will not have enough people and facilities to take care of the aging population once they need health care for things that come with old. The populations of most western countries are getting older, mainly the Baby Boomers, born in the 1950s and 1960s. They live longer and had fewer children than previous generations. (Irman, 2017). Population aging of this dimension is unique in world history. Because of this it will pose serious challenges for the health care systems, pension schemes, and public debt management of modern societies. (Irman, 2017), "The problem is that population aging is itself a cause for a decline in both GDP and per–capita GDP". (Irman, 2017, p. 3). If you have less people in the workforce than before that's less people paying taxes and buying goods and services. In Canada seniors are the fastest growing age group and make more then half of the population. And the numbers of older adults are higher in rural areas than in urban areas (Menec et al., 2015). Rural communities exist throughout Canada where there are large aging populations and higher number of children, but there are fewer working individuals as compared to urban communities (Menec et al., 2015). Many rural areas are aging more quickly than its urban counterparts as many choose to move to a rural community for the slow pace of life, attractive scenery and smaller community areas (Spina & Menec, 2015, Menec et al., 2015). Aging Population In Canada A rapidly aging population and declining birth rate present a problem to policymakers as far as dynamic demand drivers in the economy, increase in health care costs, reduction in the working age population and unsustainable pension commitments are concerned (Beaujot, & Ravanera, 2013). This is the major socio–economic problem that is being witnessed in the province of Quebec, Canada. The standards of living of the people in the province have been greatly affected as the issue intensifies. Aging population has significantly affected economic development in the province as the government tends to focus more resources on tackling the issue instead of concentrating on more progressive projects. This paper provides an opinion based analysis on the problem of aging population and declining birth rate in the province of Quebec in Canada. Low population in Quebec has been something that the province has been facing. This is because of the continuous drop in the number of births coupled with the rapidly aging population. According to the provincial statistics bureau, 1.6 children per woman was witnessed in 2015 which is a drop by one percent compared to the 2014 statistics. The birth rate of the province has been going down from the year 2009. The fertility rate of the province was 1.60 in the year 2016 (Beaujot, & Ravanera, 2013). The relieved exercise of combining from the age of 65 to the elderly with the retirees cannot be taken as a solid criterion since it has become a common practice in our societies to invite many workers to leave the labor market at a later age early; not forgetting that there are plenty of people who never retire because, either materially or formally, they have never been inserted in such a market. These types of facilities focus on providing assistance with daily living activities for the elderly while still allowing them to be independent. Residents also have ample opportunities to socialize in common spaces such as dining rooms and living rooms. However, these facilities are often expensive and must be paid for privately. As a result, the option for living in these helping facilities may be out of reach for the elderly with a fixed income (Hash, Jurkowski, & Krout, 2015). Without these residential facilities as an option, aging adults with lower incomes who must remain in their homes may face challenges related to their health, mobility, and ... • 117. The Demography Of Aging Population In China Demography of aging In 2017, the world population is at 7.5 billion people. China is the most populated country in whole world. It has "1.379 billion" (Google) people making it the largest populated country. China is also the most largest aging population making it have a high life expectancy and the high accelerating aging rate in the world (Zheng, 2012). China has advanced with technology and also with age. Only "three decades ago, only 5 percent of the populations was over 65; today, 123 million people, or 9 percent of the population, are over this age which a report released by the government states that China will be the world's' most aged society in 2030" (Huang, 2013). Since, China is the most largest aging population this means that less people are dying and more are living. Since, more people are living this means that need of long–term care, health insurance, adjustment of policies and how to make everyone comfortable living. China is the only country that has an older population exceeding 100 million and annually increases at a rate of 3.2. A dependent territory of China is Hong kong that has "7.347 million people" (Google). Hong kong also has a fast growing aged population. Hong kong is also trying to adjust their long–term care system, pensions system and policies to accommodate everyone living situation. ` The aging population creates a demographic shift. Since, China has a high aging population it has affected China culturally, socially and family. Families most important social support is family and the kin system that helps functioned family roles. As aging increases, fertility decreases due to families looking for more work and to live their lives doing other things rather than having babies. It will have a dramatic demographic transition in twenty years. Growing old before affluent. Birth control has also helped with lowering the birth rate. The demographic structure has also changed. In 1950 it held a perfect pyramid but as time goes on it shows how the youth became a shrinking population. One strategic solution is the one child policy which helps balance out the rapidly growing population and to help stimulate development. It restricts family size which help the aging population ... • 121. Canada's Aging Population Analysis This graph is showing the percentage of Canada's population that's over 65 years of age– the unit(s) is percent, and 10 year intervals are used; from 1971–2011 are 'real'/historical years, and also the projected/predicted aging pop. growth from 2012–2061 (but general= from 1971–2061). The largest number of Canadians over 65 is in the year 2061 as projected, but historically it was in the year 2011. The smallest/lowest number of Canadians over 65 years of age was in the year–historically– 1971, and as projected, in the year 2021. There are no obvious outliers– but, if there were, it would probably be the number of Canadians over 65 in the year 2021 because that's when the population increased the most drastically (historically and projected). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Canada's aging population is increasing due to 3 main reasons– one being that the baby boomer generation is "ending" or "retiring"– they're aging; and with decreased fertility rates and longer life expectancies, there ends up being a larger population over 65 years of age. This impacts us economically and socially because in order to support the growing number of seniors– we have to improve the quality and frequency of financial planning for retirement, make retirement a choice (not mandatory), assist the seniors in the labour force and being versatile with work conditions (telecommuting) and encourage youth (and even foreign workers)into the ... The Effects of Wyoming’s Aging Population Essay examples The Effects of Wyoming's Aging Population With new medical technology and improved knowledge about health and wellness, American's life expectancy is longer than ever, with a better expected quality of life as well. Wyoming is the fastest aging state in the country according to the Billing's Gazette. In addition to an already aging state, Wyoming has been named by national publications as a top place of retirement due to its tax structure and climate. In an article from the Wyoming Tribune–Eagle, it is predicted that by the year 2020 Wyoming will have the highest percentage of residents over the age of 65. With the rapidly rising elderly population, Wyoming faces many challenges and difficulties in its future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Medicare is a government program and unlike private insurance companies, it must pay the costs of any beneficial medical care. From an example in USA Today, they point out that the type of defibrillator put in Vice President Dick Cheney is expected to become standard care for cardiac patients. The instillation of the defibrillator, which regulates the heart's electrical rhythms, currently cost about $30,000. This is expected to cost Medicare $14 billion by 2015, if only half of those suffering from heart failure received this treatment. This is a major national concern, but due to Wyoming's rapidly aging population, Medicare will also become a major cost to the state. Economically, Wyoming is not very diverse. The state's economy is unable to absorb a range of young or old workers. Natural resources and mining have been the fastest growing jobs in the state, with an increase of 15.5% according to the Casper Star–Tribune. These jobs require hard physical labor and are unable to provide significant work to an aging population. According to AARP economist Clare Hushbeck, people are choosing to work past the customary retirement age of 65. This is due in part to increased knowledge based jobs instead of hard labor. If Wyoming is able to follow this national shift toward knowledge based work, the aging residents and influx of retirees could possibly benefit the state's economy. Wyoming lacks a younger population ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aging Population Burdens A significant population growth occurred between 1946 and 1964; approximately 76 million people were born in the United States; this group of individuals is known as the "Baby–boom" generation (Dohm, 2000). These individuals now average between the ages of 51–70, and make up a vast majority of those in American whom fall in the late adulthood period of their lives. According to Boyd and Bee (2015, p 418), young old is defined at ages 60–75, old old is 75–85 and oldest old is 85 and older. In the United States in 2010 there were approximately 40,267,984 adults over the age of 65; in 2014 there was an estimated 46,243,211 adults over the age of 65 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2016). Ethical, as defined by Merriam–Webster online dictionary (2016), means right or wrong, or "following acceptable rules of behavior." The primary concern for many, who oppose scientific research such as this, is the notion that the scientists are "playing god." In other words, scientists are messing with the natural process of the world. It could even be argued that if scientists had left well enough alone, this increase in of individuals in the late adulthood stage of life would not have occurred; implying that nature or God would have naturally controlled the population. Others, like myself, might counter that it goes against God to deny the scientific gift of discovery blessed on some people; that if given the ability to aid people, then it is ones duty to do just that. Some perhaps, in the middle of the road, could simply question where we drawl the line? Referring back the definition of ethical (Merriam–Webster online dictionary, 2016), this middle of the road view, may simply propose the question on if this is acceptable behavior, in other words, what are we willing to do scientifically, for human life. Whether a person is all for scientific advancement or completely opposed, at the end of the day it is important to ask is this advancement truly beneficial to society and the people it affects? In 1851 there were about 65, 000 seniors in Canada and the number in 2014 is 5.57 million.[1] In 2036 the elders will be over ten million and by 2051 one in every four Canadians will be a senior [2]. Our society has become effected by this in all areas and walks of life. It is unknown what the future holds for America, but the statistical trends in an aging population may shed some light. The rate of aging in the United States will increase dramatically in the second and subsequent decades of the century. Though average length of hospital stays has decreased for those over 65, their visits to physicians are over twice as frequent as those under 65. With increases in age, the intensity of using health care resources increases: Those over 75, though only 5.5 percent of the total population in 1993, accounted for 28 percent of all hospital days. At the same time, the caregiver population comprised of both the elderly and non–elderly will be impacted by these changes. Aging is also an aspect of population dynamics that affects the level of poverty also. As fertility declines and the population ages, traditional family–based systems for providing old–age care may weaken, leaving the elderly vulnerable. The income security of older persons is a policy concern not only in developed countries but increasingly as well in developing countries such as China that have passed through the demographic transition. Between 2000 and 2050, the proportion of the population aged 65 and older will have doubled in most developing regions. This exponential increase in the aging populous could leave that generation drastically vulnerable. Not only would the health standard be effected but also the income producing majority. Forecasts show that policy makers must address the impact of our aging population in the next decade to stay ahead of the demand on resources required by a population ... • 149. Aging Population There are many key factors that have contributed to the aging of the U.S population. Some of these factors include the size and composition of the population 27 years and over in 2012 (The U.S Census Bureau, 2014). Fertility and mortality rates are also determinants of the aging of the U.S population (The U.S Census Bureau, 2014). This means that the mortality rates will determine the size of the population and the rate at which population at the older age declines. Immigration is also another factor, but it has less impact on increasing the population over age 65 as it is shown that most immigrants are projected to be under age of 40 when they arrive in the United States (The U.S Census Bureau, 2014). • 153. Aging Population : A Global Phenomenon Introduction Population aging can be defined as the median age of the population increasing over time. Aging population is becoming a global phenomenon as the baby boomers are hitting the 65–year mark and fertility rates are declining. An aging population has become an issue that many countries are having to face with significant impacts in economic areas. The Canadian population has changed drastically over the last several years. As the baby boomers (the segment of the population born post World War II approximately 1946 to 1964) have grown older and become more dependent on health care and social programs to support their living. The Canadian government has become increasingly concerned with this global phenomenon as they now must invest more money in health care and pensions. This trend will continue in time as in 1971 8% of the population was 65 or older compared to today's statistic of 14.4% of the population being 65 or older. The industrial revolution played a huge role in the demographic transition of societies and has impacted fertility rates; we have seen a large decline in fertility within Canada. On the global scale the natural rate of increase is 2.1 births per women whereas; Canada's current fertility rate is 1.2. This, too, will have implications on society for the dependent older age sector. Furthermore, the implications of an aging population in Canada are taking great tolls on the health care sector as many of the demographic require medical support. In ...
