Navigating The Csu Global Library
Option #1: Navigating the CSU–Global Library
ProQuest and Business Source Complete (EBSCO) are the two databases that are being compared in
this article. Initially ProQuest seems easiest to navigate and provides a wide range of topics. EBSCO
was also chosen due to the focus on business related articles. Comparing these databases on a
business–related topic will prove which one has the best outcome. Searching, navigating, narrowing
the scope and using the article tools are all important parts to identifying the right research. Badke
(2014) states in reference to searching databases that "if you want results that reflect what you are
seeking in your research question, then use such terminology that comes out of your research
question" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When reviewing the EBSCO help tools it explains that even in a basic search there are still search
options. Help tools similarly explain, options for selecting phrases, choosing AND/OR, and even
turn on a smart text search, which leverages technology to conduct the best results. Without limiting
the search a basic search of mobile banking turns up 11,081 items. This is a much smaller pool than
what ProQuest brought up, however, EBSCO seems to be more business focused and also lists,
newspapers, magazines, trade publications and videos.
Narrowing the Scope of the Search Results
Advanced search seems like the way to go when narrowing down the scope of the research. As you
start typing it provides the user with word suggestions. While typing mobile banking it suggested
consumer and mobile banking and mobile banking adoption. There are also AND, OR and NOT
options. Selections for full text, peer reviewed and scholarly journals are also available. There is
even an option to select all kinds of publication dates. Using suggested topics, plus using the AND
feature (consumer adoption of internet banking) AND (mobile banking adoption) within the past
three years seems like the best bet. The advanced search only narrowed down the results to 710
articles. 710 articles, is still too many and needs to be narrowed down even more. The publication
chart on the side showed the majority of the articles were published in 2015 and 2016. Knowing that

School Searches of Students' Lockers Essay
According to the National Education Association, at least 100,000 students bring guns to school,
160,000 students skip classes because they fear physical harm, 40 students are killed or hurt by
firearms, nearly 6,250 teachers are threatened with bodily injury, and 260 teachers are physically
assaulted. These facts are not based on once year, but as every single school day. Could one even
imagine what the numbers might look like on scale for a month of school, let alone a whole year? So
would starting with searching lockers really be a step to far to try and lower the numbers? Some
may think yes due to the school invading the students' privacy. The majority of people though will
say no, doing searches of student's lockers is not a bad ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Where as others may believe that this will make the school system more of a bureaucracy. Further
more those would also argue that most of the time lockers are hardly involved in the keeping of
contrabands. If students have contraband items they are more likely to keep it on them and therefore
randomly searching lockers it not as important. The time and energy which would be spent
searching lockers could be used in more efficient way. If schools didn't have to ability to perform
random searches, those who bring banded objects to school will know that they could just hide it in
their lockers without having to worry. Although when random searches are be conducted it will
make students think twice about bring such things to school. When students are given a locker, most
schools will have the students sign a policy, which will include something notifying that random
searches may be conducted. Schools are not conducting the searches to just go through student
belongings but to show they are doing them, which they are hoping will deter the students from
bring contrabands to school. For the students who still bring things to school, and get caught make
an example for others. That if you bring things that don't belong, eventually you will be caught.
Though by doing the searches, schools also hope eventually students will give up trying and just
stop bringing things, which will also save everybody

Ebsco Describes Itself As ‘The Leading Discovery Service
EBSCO describes itself as 'the leading discovery service provider for libraries worldwide with more
than 8,000 discovery customers in over 100 countries. EBSCO Discovery Service™ provides each
institution with a comprehensive, single search box for its entire collection, offering unparalleled
relevance ranking quality and extensive customization.' (EBSCO, 2015) This all sounds very
impressive but how does it stand up in comparison to other databases and just how easy is it use?
This review will set out to show the advantages and disadvantages of using EBSCO Host and what
it has to offer.

A quick keyword search using the term 'business' brought up 8,952,111 results as you can see in the
accompanying screenshot. The impressive date range stretches from the year 1644 to 2016. This is
of course too much information to sort through but on the left hand side of the page, EBSCO offers
a range of refining features to narrow your search term. However not all of the refining features
work as they should. For example, the geography filter is not the most accurate, there is uncertainty
if geography is categorised by topic, publisher or author. Furthermore when a geographical location
is selected, the results are inaccurate, although this is mainly because the databases which EBSCO
searches through do not always accurately define the article's location. (EBSCO Host, 2016)
One of the advantages of this platform is its thesaurus and predictive search terms which allow you
to search at ease. Other databases for example Passport are only capable of searching an exact
phrase in an exact term. EBSCO Host manages to predict your search, or similar searches which
helps those who may lack confidence. EBSCO states that its 'neutral relevance ranking strategy uses
numerous criteria, including term frequency, field weighting, exact title matching and content
attribute boosting, to provide users with the most relevant results for each query' (Kelley, 2013). I
feel that this is something that EBSCO Host does successfully. Each search I

Creating An Effective Search Strategy
The first step to creating an effective search strategy for this particular search strategy would be to
go over what kind of subjects we will be covering as we work to complete the search strategy
together. Providing him with this information will help him to understand why we are going through
these steps and help him to stay on track while we are completing them. As we go through this
search strategy we are going to cover formulating an effective research question, virtual reference
collections, finding sources, Google search , website evaluation, and plagiarism. Once we have
discussed our plan for completing this search strategy the next step would be to formulate their
research question. Formulating an effective research ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next step would be to show the student how where they access this collection and how to search
for materials. I demonstrate how to use these collections by searching for some materials that have
organized into the grade 5 age appropriate category. Once in this category I can show him how to
search through this material in order to find items that contain information about his chosen subject.
The next research tool that will be discussed is the Google search. Since the student is in grade 5 he
probably already knows a great deal about using Google since it is a very popular tool for people of
all ages. What I will be teaching him is how to find the best results using Google search. I will show
him that refining your search using key terms can help you to find the most useful information faster
and with ease. After providing this explanation I will encourage the student to try searching for
some research materials by using the key words we came with together in his Google search.
Unfortunately though using the internet as a research tool does have its dangers. After the student
has finished his Google search using the key terms I will take some time to talk to him about the
importance of evaluation. Some websites present opinion as fact and using this kind of information
can have damaging effects on your research and your finished product. After we have talked about
the importance of website

Street Culture Paper
In the following paragraphs, I will describe a Street Culture organizational policy, how and when the
policy is applied in practice, develop recommendations for improving the policy, and discuss how I
would evaluate the implementation of my recommendations.
I decided to collect policy information on Street Culture Project's search protocol at Downtown
Browne's Emergency Shelter. The youth search protocol is integral to service delivery and sets the
guidelines regarding what personal belongings are allowed in the Shelter (Street Culture Project
Inc., n.d.). In applying a youth–centred approach, the protocol is developed with an emphasis on
creating awareness for the participants of what items are allowed (SCPI, n.d.). Although a youth

The policy is applied various ways at Downtown Browne's Emergency Shelter. Two of the ways the
policy is applied are when a participant enters the Shelter or during daily room checks. When a
participant enters the Shelter, they must empty all pockets, conduct a self pat down, and empty
bag(s) of all belongings. During daily room checks, staff members utilize a comprehensive room
checklist to search for contraband or anything that may jeopardize the safety of everyone at the
Shelter. To improve the policy, I would recommend that Street Culture Project's board members
ensure that staff know how to conduct a thorough search of each youth's room at the Shelter and that
all staff be provided with a list of what is considered contraband. To evaluate the implementation of
the above recommendations, appropriate guidelines of the youth search protocol at the Shelter
should be implemented, staff are required to provide the board members' with regular feedback and
ideas to improve safety at the Shelter, and regular reviews of the youth search protocol should be
performed (McNamara,

Search Strategies
A search strategy is used to guide a researcher in using databases to find information such as
keywords, subject headings, and criteria for inclusion or exclusion of material (Melnyk & Fineout–
Overholt, 2015). After much discussion, a group PICOT question was identified: In adult patients on
a medical–surgical unit who meet sepsis criteria (P) does the use of a nurse–driven sepsis protocol
(I), compared to usual care (C), affect the time of initiating sepsis protocol (O) over the span of three
months (T)? The purpose of this paper is to describe the search strategy and process that was used to
obtain pertinent articles for evidence that are directly related to the established PICOT question.

Tazbir (2012) and Schorr, Odden, Evans, Escobar, Bandi, Townsend, and Levy (2016) developed
articles that are specific to the medical–surgical unit and defined several factors as to what may play
into the higher mortality rate of the patients that are diagnosed there. Schorr et al. (2016) further
examined and compared emergency department (ED) versus medical surgical treatment of sepsis.
Kleinpell, Aitken, and Schorr (2013) gave thorough, in–depth knowledge of nurses' role, sepsis, and
treatment guidelines describing initial, three–hour, and six–hour bundles. Medley O'Keefe,
Gatewood, Wemple, Greco, Kritek, and Durvasula (2015) gave interesting statistics to support
nurse–driven testing and sepsis–specific goal–directed therapy. Lopez–Bushneil, Demaray, and Jaco
(2014) and Kleinpell (2017) defined sepsis screening tools with complete sepsis protocols and
identified studies in which nurses are authorized to identify signs and symptoms, order necessary
blood testing, and initiate protocols. Additionally, Kleinpell (2017) identified studies in which
nurses completed "Sepsis Power Hour" in which blood cultures, lactate, and fluid boluses were
independently initiated by the nurse. All articles were chosen because they appeared to have a strong
hierarchy of evidence. For example, Lopez–Bushneil, Demaray, and Jaco (2014) report testing
evidence to show a change in practice due to the exceeded goals and successful treatment of

INITIAL POST – Week 4 Discussion
Database searching experience
Looking for the articles, journals, and books are easy to find in the physical library where librarian
helps, suggest and find material. Having the first time user experience of the online library was
entirely different. For the database search, I went step by step. Firstly, I learned about scholarly
journals, that they are academic, peer–reviewed or refereed. A group of researchers conducts the
research, and their peers from similar expertise give them feedback before the publication.(Cornell
University library, 2010). Secondly, I review the video to how to use the database search engine. I
selected Nursing as a subject and chose CINAHL with full text for the article search (Walden
University, 2013). I limited the search to peer–reviewed journals and ... Show more content on

Finally, I got more than 100 journals related to the topic. Out of that, I found one which was related
to my area of practice i–e, home health as I experience the similar situations every day. Moreover, I
took help from a librarian to make sure that I am in a right direction. She mentioned about another
useful database called Ulrich to verify the chosen article as a peer–reviewed article. I did verify the
article through the Ulrich directory after reviewing the video. I put the journal name in the search
area in quotation mark and found the result on the left side of the page which showed that the article
was peer–reviewed (Walden University, 2012). By doing different steps to find the article once again

All The Light We Cannot See Quotes
"I'm only trying to make sense of this war inside my head." This quote relates to the characters in
All The Light We Cannot See because everyone is battling with love, truth, or identity while battling
the war in Europe. Marie–Laure is living in Saint–Malo with her crazy great uncle while the war is
raging on outside the city. Werner was accepted into the Hitler Youth School and was sent out into
the war to track resistance radio signals. Sergeant von Rumpel is also on the search for the Sea of
Flames diamonds, and what Marie–Laure doesn't know about her father can greatly hurt her. In this
novel, three of the characters are searching for either truth, love, or identity.
Knowing the difference between the truth and lies is a very common theme in All The Light We
Cannot See. Many characters are lied to by their loved ones and about things that can affect them
greatly, and von Rumpel wants to know the truth about the location about the Sea of Flames.
Sergeant von Rumpel is in dire need of the Sea of Flames diamond, so he can showcase it in his new
museum. He will do whatever is needed to locate the diamond among the vastness of Europe and the
war. Before Paris was invaded, the Museum of Natural History made three replicas of the diamond
and gave the replicas and the real diamond to four trustworthy employees. The catch: none of them
knew if they had a replica of the real diamond. Von Rumpel was in Paris and found the shop of
Dupont, which the owner later admitted to making replicas and dispersing them in many locations.
Once von Rumpel found out the locations, he was even more determined to find all four
"diamonds". Especially because he recently found out that he had been diagnosed with a tumor, and
the stone is known to help a person live forever. He has visited many places in search for the
replicas or the diamond: "Three replicas. Plus the real stone. Somewhere on this planet among its
sextillion grains of sand." Von Rumpel has visited the museum, a jeweler, multiple homes, and
Marie–Laure's house in Paris in search of the Sea of Flames. His main struggle is knowing if the
stone is a replica or real. He is putting a great amount of trust in the people he has confided in, and
he hopes that they have given

Evaluation Of The Research And Creative Work
UROP Application Spring 2016
Christopher Jones
Mentor: Trafton Drew
Department of Psychology Statement of the Problem/Topic of the Research or Creative Work Visual
Search is important in our everyday lives, and search relies on cues from the environment and uses
object similarity to guide search. While much research has been done to see how visual similarity
between objects affects visual search (Duncan and Humphreys 1989), very little research has been
done to see how different types of similarity between objects compare in their effects on visual
search. Specifically the proposed project would investigate how semantic similarity and visual
similarity influence visual search using real world objects. The usage of real world objects is
important because many laboratory visual search tasks are not reflective of visual search in a real
world setting. Neural measures gathered from EEG (Electroencephalogram) data in the form of ERP
(Event–Related Potential) components can be used to measure onset of attentional processing, as
well as how distracting certain objects may or may not be. Specifically the N2PC reflects a shift in
attention to a visual target. Using this ERP component, the neural differences between visual and
semantic similarity in objects can be evaluated and compared between participants. While research
shows there is a behavioral effect between visual and semantic similarity among distractors in visual
search (De Groot, Huettig, and Olivers 2016),

There are several items that a checkpoint can confiscate, as long as the items are negatively affecting
the workplace or pose a risk to other employees, such as guns or adult entertainment. What gets a bit
trickier is when they can take electronic devices at checkpoints, such as cell phones and hard drives.
For a checkpoint to take these items they has to be a policy in place that forbids these types of
devices onsite, the same way cellphones are not allowed in classified meetings. Additional, this is
the only time the company can search an employee's body, consisting of a pat–down to ensure there
are no weapons on the subject. However, if the security staff takes any items from MR. Yourporp,
they cannot begin searching thought the information contained on his electronic devices and they
must be held in a designated location for confiscated items. Not following these procedures could
lead to jail time as was the case with an incident at the O'Hare Airport (Hilkevitch, 2001). One
exception depends on if the devices are company owned or not, if the device is company owned then
they have every right to collect their devices in order to search the device during a security check.
Searching the device at this time would be unwise, so many companies would have the item taken to
their forensic team to search the

The, An Eye Opening Book By Nicholas Carr
The Shallows, an eye opening book written by Nicholas Carr, discusses the detrimental impacts of
technology on the process of learning. Specifically, in Chapter Eight, Carr analyzes the evolution of
technology that has led to the invention of an efficient, revolutionary organization of knowledge: the
search engine. For example, Google provides an online outlet to a seemingly infinite amount of
information for internet users worldwide. Google is widely known as a necessity for everyday life:
an incredible tool for searching the vast expansions of the world–wide web. Carr, frightened by the
technological change that Google brings, describes how we are perpetually stuck between two
modes of thinking. The online organization of knowledge that Google provides carries both positive
and negative arguments; A database of that capacity allows individuals access to knowledge that
would otherwise be inaccessible but Google also has a certain control over knowledge which is
alarming. Google was created by two young men, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. They combined
skills to create the perfect search engine they both envisioned. The now efficient, popular search
engine built its image through internet traffic and economically through AdWords. A company as
large as Google needs to be efficient, Frederick Winslow Taylor and his idea of the "one best
method" of work, otherwise known as Taylorism, was the perfect fit for the company. Carr painted
the picture for his readers by writing,

Search Techniques Used By Google Scholar
When searching the above four databases the search techniques I used were: After selecting a topic
the next step is to identify, in a structured way, the appropriate and related information. A systematic
approach is most likely to generate a beneficial review. Searches for literature reviews are attempted
most ordinarily utilizing PCs and electronic databases. PC databases offer access to immense
amounts of data, which can be recovered more effortlessly and rapidly than utilizing a manual hunt.
(Younger, 2004) There are various electronic databases, a large portion of which manage particular
fields of data. It is vital along these lines to recognize which databases are applicable to the theme.
Google scholar has latest information available and is freely accessible to all as compared to the
other sources. I for myself chose to search from google scholar for my review as it provides a wider
and richer database than others. It searches a wide variety of sources, including academic publishers,
universities, and preprint depositories looking for: Peer–reviewed articles, Thesis, Books, Technical
reports etc. is easy to search as it provides some basic and advanced search options, like a database

Josh Waitzkin In Searching For Bobby
In the movie, Searching for Bobby Fischer, the main character, Josh Waitzkin, had many exemplary
moments that defined his character. Determination, humbleness, and empathy are few of the many
words that can be used to describe Josh. With these values embedded within the young chess player,
Josh began to show everyone who he really is. One of the many challenges that Josh faced and
overcame was the constant pressure from his father and his chess teacher. After learning that his son
was quite the chess player, the father signs Josh up with a teacher to further enhance his abilities.
While this may seem harmless, it began to take a toll on Josh. The boy no longer wanted to
participate in chess due to new ideas and systems implemented by his teacher. Furthermore, the
father's exaggerated desire to win put even more strain on Josh. However, throughout the whole
ordeal, Josh ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is where Josh's humbleness contradicted that supposed mindset. Throughout the film, Josh ends
up playing a numerous amount of opponents in chess. One game in particular really emphasized his
value of humbleness – the game against his own father. It was evident from the beginning that the
father had no chance to beat his son. However, Josh did not want to hurt his feelings and held back,
allowing his dad to win. When asked for a rematch with no holding back, Josh won without even
being present at the chessboard – his opponent was too easy. Another example of humbleness would
be the final battle of the movie: Josh vs Jonathan. In the final scene, Josh ends up finding a way to
beat Jonathan and offers him a draw before carrying out his final attack. These two scenes
successfully represented Josh's value of humbleness. He does not insult his opponents or think lowly
of them, he respects each and every one of them to the fullest

Analysis Of All The Missing Girls
Is it monsters from the dark, mysterious woods, jealous ex–boyfriends, or ditching town? These are
all theories as to why two teenage girls from the, supposedly, postcard–worthy town have
disappeared in the past ten years. In All the Missing Girls, Nic is back in her hometown, for a
sojourn for the first time since her friend, Corrine, disappeared ten years ago, and now Annaleise
Carter is missing. The memories of Corrine's case begin to resurface as alibis, motives, and
connections between the cases are questioned. In a small town like Cooley Ridge, rumors are the
plague, spreading everywhere not caring whose lives they ruin. (☺ Metaphor) I finished reading
The Woman in Cabin 10, and the resolution is that Richard commits suicide after killing his real
wife, and his fake wife and Lo both survive. The three most important searches in All the Missing
Girls are the search for connections between the two cases of the missing girls, the search for
Corinne, and Tyler's search for love.
The search for connections between the cases leads to Tyler being questioned as a suspect, and Nic
going on a mission to solve the cases. Tyler is suspected because he is dating Annaleise. He claims
they broke up the night before she disappears, which heightens suspicions. He also ditches town
after Annaleise goes missing. Nic thinks, "Tyler was starting to feel like a ghost, like if I blinked for
too long, he might slip away for good" (Miranda 171). He is fleeing the investigation. By

Modelss And Approacheses: Theories, Models And Approaches
Theories, Models and Approaches Adolescent information–seeking activities contribute to daily
problem solving and the "mastery of life (Foss et al., 2013, pp. 44). Everyday Life Information
Seeking (ELIS) refers to "the ways in which people acquire information in non–work contexts"
(Gauducheau, 2016; Koh, 2013; Foss et al., 2013). In relation to adolescents, ELIS concerns "their
engagement with information to address everyday life concerns, such as growing up, identity,
relationships, careers, and life style choices" (Koh, 2013, pp. 1828). Kuhlthau claims there are six
stages in an information seeker's search process in their Information Search Model. Each stage
represents a task in the search process: "task initiation, topic selection, pre–focus exploration, focus
formulation, information collection and search closure" (Bowler, 2010, pp. 1334). Adolescents are
just beginning to think conceptually through reflection and metacognition (Meyers et al., 2009;
Bowler, 2010). Vygotsky states that adolescence is a critical time in the development of mental and

This information is what people who use Splunk to provide the required answers use. In the machine

Google And Bing 's Search Tools
Title of Your Report
"Google it!". No, but really, Google it.
After analyzing both Google and Bing's search tools, I've come to the conclusion that Google just
has more to offer. The tool that stands out the most and gave the best results was the "Verbatim"
option under "All results". When using it, Google will only display results specific to the user 's
search term or phrase. For example, when I search "Gerrymandering", no results containing
synonyms, similar terms, previously used websites, or words from the same stem will appear in my
results. When searching for a phrase such as "Gerrymandering in Maryland", the verbatim tool will
only show the user results with that exact phrase. No results containing those words separated
should appear. Another great search tool Google has to offer is the "Advanced search", found in the
upper right hand corner under the options button. This tool offers the user many ways to narrow
down their search to find the the exact result their looking for. Some Advanced search allows users
to search by language, region, last updated, file type, usage rights, site or domain name, where the
phrase appears on the site, ranging numbers, and exact words or phrases. This tool is extremely
beneficial to a searcher who knows exactly what they're looking for, but can't find it in a general
search.
While I find that Google offers a more efficient search engine, Bing has some unique search tools
itself. To start, when I search "Gerrymandering", I see

Company Analysis : Loblaw Companies Limited
1.0 Introduction
Loblaw Companies Limited is the leader of Canada's food and pharmacy, their independently–
operated stores, food and household products as well as pharmacies can be found in every
Canadian's neighborhoods.
Loblaw used to save store and vendor information in different types of Legacy systems, for
example, the vendors' sales data is stored in the system called Bi–query, and the vendor stores
payment records can be found in Customer Information Control System (CICS). However, given the
size and complexity of Loblaw, it is hard to remain competitive without a system that can integrate
information from all business areas and provide real–time information updates of critical
information so that an entire enterprise may function as one. Therefore, Loblaw starts to transfer
store and vendor data from Legacy systems, into a more efficient and powerful system called SAP.
Legacy system is the general designation of all the system Loblaw used before adopting SAP. Each
Legacy system has its own database so that different departments in Loblaw are using different
Legacy system to upload and maintain the data they are using. One of the most commonly used
Legacy is CICS, which allows employees to upload and maintain transaction and payment document
at Loblaw. Whereas, SAP is an enterprise resource planning software that integrates a company's
core business function in a seamless and efficient manner. It also links function through a central

The Collection That I Am A Building Essay
The collection that I am going to be building will be focusing on children's books that feature
racially diverse main characters and or themes. The focus of this collection proposal is to bring
books with diverse characters onto the shelves and make them easily accessible and visible to young
children and families. I was provided with an allocated 5,000 dollars Canadian to spend on this
special collection. My initial goal was to select books with people of colour as the main characters
exclusively. The issue with this plan is there are lots of books about African Canadian children but
not very many about Indigenous children. Due to this, I expanded my search criteria to include
books featuring diverse characters where there were also people of colour featured as secondary
characters. By expanding my search, I was able to feature more racially diverse characters. The first
step in my selection process was searching online for lists of books published by organizations,
schools and blogs that featured racially diverse main characters. I used Amazon extensively once I
had found titles of interest. Amazon provided me with the ISBN numbers to search as specifically as
possible and offered similar title suggestions. I cross referenced the titles through the Halifax Public
Libraries Discover Catalog to see if they were already owned. My goal was to select new titles so I
was not building a collection that already existed somewhere else. I paid particular attention to

Finding Research Related To Emerging Topics Related To
Finding research related to emerging topics related to information technology (IT) can be a
challenge. The more recently a book or article is the more likely it is to have current perspectives
according to Leedy & Ormrod (2014). When performing a database search word phrases, keyword

A prime wellspring keywords in the search engine is the way I explored the topics of exploration
and interest in a thesis research on topics previously mentioned hacktivism and network security.
Emphasizing a search on hacking and conceivable reasons why hacking and its consequences is a
continued issue with repercussions that affect everyone, phrases were used. Clear catchphrases for
this theme along with associated connections of security, law, and the internet is added to the
keyword search. Network security or even hacking are extremely broad areas. Focusing on these
topics are a good starting off point. Obtained this way will lead to an increased numbers of potential
articles and information, which is why it is critical become familiar with appropriate keywords. As
the search is undertaken for books, articles, Internet sites, on hacking or network security themes, it
may be necessary to change phrases, add additional keywords and incorporate different databases.
Modified with different areas in social themed, education, business, management not necessarily

Personalizaton through Searches on Google and Facebook is...
Worldwide there is an underlying issue within search engines and social media. This issue is
becoming evident as the number of people retrieving their news through Google and Facebook
increases. Personalisation through searches is evolving to only show the consumer what they want
to see not what they need to see. Online Organiser and Author of 'The Filter Bubble', Eli Pariser
argues in his TED Talk about the unreliability of not being exposed to information that could
broaden our worldwide view and possibly resolve pivotal democratic issues. This cycle of trying to
consistently please the users is becoming evident within search organisations and has evolved with
technology as algorithmic filters were introduced having an unbalanced and unethical filter. This
invisible filter is now generating a "personal unique universe of information" (Pariser, 2011), for
every individual user, enforcing the inability to have a functioning democracy because of the public
not receiving accurate and most importantly balanced information. The Filter Bubble's motive is to
create a personalised environment online through the search engine, by getting to know the source
of sites it thinks it's consumer is interested in. The filter then only provides their subject with
specific 'relevant' information. The continuous flow of information being shown on google and
Facebook revolves around the commonly visited sites rather than things that benefit the users
worldwide view and get them thinking (Eli

The Night Circus Research Paper
Why would a person fall in love with their life long adversary? That is the case between Celia and
Marco in The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, but Celia and Marco do not realize the
consequences. Many of their coworkers at the circus die because of their reckless relationship. Also,
Celia and Marco put the competition, the circus, in jeopardy because their relationship can ruin the
circus. The novel The Night Circus has three essential searches, and those are the search for
acceptance, affection, and answers ☺ (Alliteration). Marco and Bailey are both on separate searches
for acceptance. They are on different searches, but they both want to be accepted because both of

Both of them question the mysteriousness of the circus, so they have become serious. Poppet is able
to gaze into the future when she looks at people. Poppet uses that information that she collects to
find answers to who is going be in the circus in the future. Tara is also curious about the circus, but
for another reason. "She does her best to explain her concern. That there is more going on with the
circus than most people are privy to" (Morgenstern 262). The book then continues to explain Tara's
skepticism, and then Tara decides to investigate. Poppet and Tara both been affected by their
investigations of the circus. Poppet wants to find more answers to not be depressed, but she does not
like that she invades people's privacy to get her answers. Tara's search affected her way differently
than Poppet's, and Tara's search lead to her being careless. Her carelessness eventually led to her
demise because she was investigating and then got hit by a train. Poppet and Tara Burgess are two of
the large amount of people who are on a search for answers.
The search for acceptance, affection, and answers are all key parts to The Night Circus. All of those
searches were eventually problematic because of Celia and Marco's relationship. Any of those
searches should not allow you to fall in love with a life long adversary.
I would give myself a 9.2/10 because I improved my transitions, but I could have made less

The Impact Of Internet On Public Opinion On Society
Today, the Internet is where society can find any type information, including the news worldwide.
Companies, advertisers and online systems have personalized Internet experiences to draw in users.
In other words, users are forced to read certain topics based on their search history and are
recommended more of the same topics. This causes a large impact on public opinion in society, but
the ability to find diverse content is more of an issue. The challenges to overcome diversity include,
the user 's motivation, awareness and ability to seek for diverse content (Hoffman et al. 1). With the
obstacles of filtering and web programming, are users receiving all the different viewpoints? Media
content with filtering, personalization and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on the user's search history, filtering is applied in the system. Programming would find a way
to determine the search, in some way, similar to previous searches. Hoffman discusses more that,
"The awareness challenge lies in users ' inability or difficulty in experiencing diversity due to a lack
of knowledge about the production, filtering, and consumption mechanisms at play" (3). This forces
users to view only what they are given. It will have viewers looking at stuff based on their previous
searches. With this in mind, users awareness of different content is becoming nearly impossible if
filtering is applied.
The media is becoming more specific from large companies such as Google or Facebook, that can
draw us to different sides with filtering technology for profit benefits. In Engin Bozdag's 2013
article, he shares that personalization is a major aspect for advertisers, and can be used for online
targeting for potential customers (107). There are more online product purchases than ever before,
and advertisers design these online personalization systems to persuade customers (Li and Unger
623). Advertisers collect customer data to design recommendations. Bozdag also adds, "Facebook
uses various profile elements to display targeted advertising including age, gender, marital status,
and education" (98). These companies earn large profit with advertisements because of filtering and
personalization. In addition, it

Strip Searches Persuasive Essay
Strip Searches Should Be Illegal Ontario police officers often search civilians for evidence of a
crime and they employ various methods to do so. However the method of using a strip search has
become outdated and unnecessary in modern society. It is time for the practice of strip searching
people to be stopped by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), even if it is a justified search. The
people of Canada should be protected from these searches as they have the right to privacy and
protection from invasive search practices. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms even has a section on
protecting against "unreasonable searches", found in section 7 of the charter. If that is the case, why
should the OPP be allowed to infringe on our rights through strip searches? The fact that in a
modern society an illegal method of searching civilians is still being used is ridiculous. We have the
technology to find and use less invasive methods of searching people that also abide by the law. The
strip search, being such an invasive form of searching someone is humiliating and subjecting people
to it should be stopped. There was a ruling in 2001 by the Supreme Court of Canada, which said that
it was humiliating. The exact quote was "Strip searching is "inherently humiliating and degrading,"
the Supreme Court of Canada ruled in a landmark case 15 years ago, and should only be done when
there are reasonable grounds" (Jacques). The fact that a strip search is humiliating means that as a

Abstract
In this paper, the main focus will lie on the differences that the librarians and students have when
they tend to retrieve or manage the information that they search through online databases.
Furthermore, we will discuss the importance of the knowledge management and controlled
vocabulary as the main distinction between those librarians who are successful at information
retrieval and teaching it and those students that aren't. We will discuss this under the light of some of
the large search engines or web portals that are available to the librarians and the students as part of
their search archives like Google; highlighting some of the facts that should be known and/or taught
about these web portals before they can be used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, comparisons of librarians and students showed that the overall advantage of the
accurate collection and retention of data was with the librarians because of the methodologies that
they used top collect the information. The question then remains whether these librarians can
efficiently and effectively teach these students the techniques that they use to gather information and
allow them to exercise the same skills of knowledge management and controlled use of vocabulary
and words within and outside the environment of the libraries (Gadzella and Baloglu, 2003).
There are many academic psychologists and practitioners who have focused on this difference of
success between the librarians and the students when it comes to understanding, retracting,
managing and using the data that they gather fore a topic. Some researches chose to focus on the
behaviors, characteristics, mental abilities and overall skill sets of the two entities to analyze the
foundation behind the differences. There is a generalized belief among the researchers that the
differences between the success of librarians and students does lie in the overall approach to the
retrieval of information and the foundation, mental and personal, behind that approach. Furthermore,
many researchers believe that the ability to retain the facts is also highly dependent upon the value
or worth associated with them search (Gadzella and Baloglu, 2003).

Personal Narrative : Search And Rescue
Search and Rescue My life's vocation has been one of search and rescue. If it weren't cattle, it was
people from all walks of life who had lost their way or did not know there was a better alternative
than the lifestyle they felt fate had dealt to them. It was logical that sooner or later searching and a
passion for flying would come together. I vividly remember my first flying experience. During
spring break in my high school years, I happened to stop by the local hanger located on a hill that
overlooked the cemetery in Russell. The approach for landing was a good reminder that one needs to
be intentional about all life's decisions because each decision brings with it either more "life" or
more "death." Decisions are never neutral. The decision to fly that day at the invitation of a local
private pilot was not right or wrong in itself; it is just that I was not dressed appropriately for what
turned out to be our actual destination and mission. What originally was planned as a flip around the
town in a little two passenger J3 Piper Cub on a warm spring day turned into an unfiled excursion
into the Riding Mountain National Park south of Dauphin, Manitoba looking for moose. It was
winter in the park, and as we circled a small lake both of us caught sight of what seemed like a
trapper in distress. His hand waving appeared much more urgent than a friendly acknowledgement.

Similarities Between Gilgamesh And Oedipus
Heroes are extraordinary characters who carry human qualities that reassure followers of the heroes'
limitations. A hero is commonly considered a god, a being with great power that is brave enough to
save whole cities. The human qualities are always their greatest fault, it comes in the image of pride,
ego, selfishness, and even denial. These flaws are represented by the heroes Gilgamesh and
Oedipus. Gilgamesh and Oedipus undertake journeys in search of a truth that will preserve their
glory. While Gilgamesh searches for immortality, Oedipus searches for a different fate, both, fearing
death. However, only one reaches their their goal. Similarly, both figures are kings; rulers of
communities which reflect their ruling. In Gilgamesh's epic, the people knew of his endeavors and
had to live with his sporadic acts because he was their ruler and accepted him as so. As declared,
"Day and night his behavior became overbearing. He was their shepherd, yet powerful, superb,
knowledgeable and expert, Gilgamesh would not leave young girls alone,"(199), and it is a positive
reflection of his ruling due to the community accepting his antics through their approval of his
leadership. On the other hand, Oedipus' ruling was a negative concept on the fate of the people. The
people see his flaws and have their doubts of his rule once they realize he is the root of their
suffering, yet do not fully accept the reality of the situation. "This god of plague guts our city and

John's Journey In Search For Truth By C. S. Lewis
Throughout history, many people have dedicated their lives to search for the truth. Consequently,
this has resulted in many different philosophies and religions. Likewise, C.S Lewis writes a book
dealing with his conversation and spiritual journey in search for the truth. He uses a character named
John and this boy's journey to represent his own journey through life. The first way John searches
for the truth is in his search for happiness. He searches for happiness in many forms, but eventually
finds the true source. Another way that John searches for the truth is through the different
philosophies that various people present to him along his journey. Though at the time the different
philosophies may have seemed correct, after closer examination ... Show more content on

Mr. Enlightenment is the first person that John meets on his travels. Accordingly, he introduces John
to the philosophy of modern science and rationalism. According to Mr. Enlightenment, modern
science and rational thinking can explain anything. Moreover, he tells John that, "the Landlord is an
invention of those Stewards" (Lewis 1–2), and many people believe them because they lack
scientific training. This leaves John with the notion that the landlord is a fake. Soon after, the Spirit
of the Age captures John and holds him prisoner in a cell for many days. While he is imprisoned the
Spirit of the Agee attempts to convince John and the rest of the prisoners, that they are nothing more
than their internals. Nevertheless, a woman named Reason comes and rescues John. She tries to
reach John that to find the truth, reason must be used. Reason explains to John that he is more
knowledgeable than he perceives. It is just a matter of bringing, "dark part of your mind into the
light part of it" (Lewis 2–4). Likewise, she talks about the importance of not making a decision
without proof and how it is not bad to stay in wonderment. John meets History sometime after his
encounters with Reason. He explains to John the nature of man in a relationship with the Landlord
and the Island. He proposes that the Island is a means to attract us to the true source of happiness
which is the landlord. Additionally, he proposes that the only way to truly reach the Landlord is
through mother Kirk. This helps John come to realize the truth about what he was searching for and

The Pros And Cons Of The Internet
Many people believe that the internet is harming our young developing minds, and not letting us
reach our full potential. In some ways the internet has disadvantageous but, the internet is also very
useful for everyone all around the world. Everything will always have disadvantageous but that
doesn't mean we should stop using it all together. You need to take to consideration if the good
outweighs the bad, and in the case of internet it does outweigh it. We are able to search anything
from anywhere and at anytime we want, all we need to do it pull out anything that has internet and
search what you want. We will have results within seconds, not having to wait around reading
through books to find exactly what you are looking for. With a few clicks of buttons you can pull up
thousands of sources all at once. We are simply using the resources we have able to us, that is not
harmful.
Questions pop up at anytime and you can't always have a book about it or have the library available,
leaving your question unanswered. The internet is always at your disposal anytime you need an
answer. To research things without the internet you would have to go to a place that has more than
one book, a library. Libraries aren't always open, and you can't always have access to a library. "The
company has declared that its mission is "to organize the world's information and make it
universally accessible and useful." With the improving of the internet everyday people all around the
world are able to access what they need. There is no waiting for a library, there is only pulling out a
phone or a computer and searching it up. Now people would argue that you could pull out a book
and get the answer. While that being true does just one book have the answer to all the question you
have. You can be anywhere you want and get the exact answer you needed, at any given time.
Spending hours upon hours searching for what you need in books, when you can have the answer to
all your troubles within seconds of hitting the search button. Taking the shorter way out doesn't hurt
anyone, it gives them more time to do other things. "Research that once required days in the stacks

Navigating The Csu Global Library

  • 1. Navigating The Csu Global Library Option #1: Navigating the CSU–Global Library ProQuest and Business Source Complete (EBSCO) are the two databases that are being compared in this article. Initially ProQuest seems easiest to navigate and provides a wide range of topics. EBSCO was also chosen due to the focus on business related articles. Comparing these databases on a business–related topic will prove which one has the best outcome. Searching, navigating, narrowing the scope and using the article tools are all important parts to identifying the right research. Badke (2014) states in reference to searching databases that "if you want results that reflect what you are seeking in your research question, then use such terminology that comes out of your research question" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When reviewing the EBSCO help tools it explains that even in a basic search there are still search options. Help tools similarly explain, options for selecting phrases, choosing AND/OR, and even turn on a smart text search, which leverages technology to conduct the best results. Without limiting the search a basic search of mobile banking turns up 11,081 items. This is a much smaller pool than what ProQuest brought up, however, EBSCO seems to be more business focused and also lists, newspapers, magazines, trade publications and videos. Narrowing the Scope of the Search Results Advanced search seems like the way to go when narrowing down the scope of the research. As you start typing it provides the user with word suggestions. While typing mobile banking it suggested consumer and mobile banking and mobile banking adoption. There are also AND, OR and NOT options. Selections for full text, peer reviewed and scholarly journals are also available. There is even an option to select all kinds of publication dates. Using suggested topics, plus using the AND feature (consumer adoption of internet banking) AND (mobile banking adoption) within the past three years seems like the best bet. The advanced search only narrowed down the results to 710 articles. 710 articles, is still too many and needs to be narrowed down even more. The publication chart on the side showed the majority of the articles were published in 2015 and 2016. Knowing that technology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. School Searches of Students' Lockers Essay According to the National Education Association, at least 100,000 students bring guns to school, 160,000 students skip classes because they fear physical harm, 40 students are killed or hurt by firearms, nearly 6,250 teachers are threatened with bodily injury, and 260 teachers are physically assaulted. These facts are not based on once year, but as every single school day. Could one even imagine what the numbers might look like on scale for a month of school, let alone a whole year? So would starting with searching lockers really be a step to far to try and lower the numbers? Some may think yes due to the school invading the students' privacy. The majority of people though will say no, doing searches of student's lockers is not a bad ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Where as others may believe that this will make the school system more of a bureaucracy. Further more those would also argue that most of the time lockers are hardly involved in the keeping of contrabands. If students have contraband items they are more likely to keep it on them and therefore randomly searching lockers it not as important. The time and energy which would be spent searching lockers could be used in more efficient way. If schools didn't have to ability to perform random searches, those who bring banded objects to school will know that they could just hide it in their lockers without having to worry. Although when random searches are be conducted it will make students think twice about bring such things to school. When students are given a locker, most schools will have the students sign a policy, which will include something notifying that random searches may be conducted. Schools are not conducting the searches to just go through student belongings but to show they are doing them, which they are hoping will deter the students from bring contrabands to school. For the students who still bring things to school, and get caught make an example for others. That if you bring things that don't belong, eventually you will be caught. Though by doing the searches, schools also hope eventually students will give up trying and just stop bringing things, which will also save everybody ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ebsco Describes Itself As ‘The Leading Discovery Service EBSCO describes itself as 'the leading discovery service provider for libraries worldwide with more than 8,000 discovery customers in over 100 countries. EBSCO Discovery Service™ provides each institution with a comprehensive, single search box for its entire collection, offering unparalleled relevance ranking quality and extensive customization.' (EBSCO, 2015) This all sounds very impressive but how does it stand up in comparison to other databases and just how easy is it use? This review will set out to show the advantages and disadvantages of using EBSCO Host and what it has to offer. Content EBSCO Host acts as a platform for a varied collection of databases. This resource allows the user to browse across multiple databases with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A quick keyword search using the term 'business' brought up 8,952,111 results as you can see in the accompanying screenshot. The impressive date range stretches from the year 1644 to 2016. This is of course too much information to sort through but on the left hand side of the page, EBSCO offers a range of refining features to narrow your search term. However not all of the refining features work as they should. For example, the geography filter is not the most accurate, there is uncertainty if geography is categorised by topic, publisher or author. Furthermore when a geographical location is selected, the results are inaccurate, although this is mainly because the databases which EBSCO searches through do not always accurately define the article's location. (EBSCO Host, 2016) One of the advantages of this platform is its thesaurus and predictive search terms which allow you to search at ease. Other databases for example Passport are only capable of searching an exact phrase in an exact term. EBSCO Host manages to predict your search, or similar searches which helps those who may lack confidence. EBSCO states that its 'neutral relevance ranking strategy uses numerous criteria, including term frequency, field weighting, exact title matching and content attribute boosting, to provide users with the most relevant results for each query' (Kelley, 2013). I feel that this is something that EBSCO Host does successfully. Each search I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Creating An Effective Search Strategy The first step to creating an effective search strategy for this particular search strategy would be to go over what kind of subjects we will be covering as we work to complete the search strategy together. Providing him with this information will help him to understand why we are going through these steps and help him to stay on track while we are completing them. As we go through this search strategy we are going to cover formulating an effective research question, virtual reference collections, finding sources, Google search , website evaluation, and plagiarism. Once we have discussed our plan for completing this search strategy the next step would be to formulate their research question. Formulating an effective research ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next step would be to show the student how where they access this collection and how to search for materials. I demonstrate how to use these collections by searching for some materials that have organized into the grade 5 age appropriate category. Once in this category I can show him how to search through this material in order to find items that contain information about his chosen subject. The next research tool that will be discussed is the Google search. Since the student is in grade 5 he probably already knows a great deal about using Google since it is a very popular tool for people of all ages. What I will be teaching him is how to find the best results using Google search. I will show him that refining your search using key terms can help you to find the most useful information faster and with ease. After providing this explanation I will encourage the student to try searching for some research materials by using the key words we came with together in his Google search. Unfortunately though using the internet as a research tool does have its dangers. After the student has finished his Google search using the key terms I will take some time to talk to him about the importance of evaluation. Some websites present opinion as fact and using this kind of information can have damaging effects on your research and your finished product. After we have talked about the importance of website ... Street Culture Paper In the following paragraphs, I will describe a Street Culture organizational policy, how and when the policy is applied in practice, develop recommendations for improving the policy, and discuss how I would evaluate the implementation of my recommendations. I decided to collect policy information on Street Culture Project's search protocol at Downtown Browne's Emergency Shelter. The youth search protocol is integral to service delivery and sets the guidelines regarding what personal belongings are allowed in the Shelter (Street Culture Project Inc., n.d.). In applying a youth–centred approach, the protocol is developed with an emphasis on creating awareness for the participants of what items are allowed (SCPI, n.d.). Although a youth may choose ... During daily room checks, staff members utilize a comprehensive room checklist to search for contraband or anything that may jeopardize the safety of everyone at the Shelter. To improve the policy, I would recommend that Street Culture Project's board members ensure that staff know how to conduct a thorough search of each youth's room at the Shelter and that all staff be provided with a list of what is considered contraband. To evaluate the implementation of the above recommendations, appropriate guidelines of the youth search protocol at the Shelter should be implemented, staff are required to provide the board members' with regular feedback and ideas to improve safety at the Shelter, and regular reviews of the youth search protocol should be performed (McNamara, ... Schorr et al. (2016) further examined and compared emergency department (ED) versus medical surgical treatment of sepsis. Kleinpell, Aitken, and Schorr (2013) gave thorough, in–depth knowledge of nurses' role, sepsis, and treatment guidelines describing initial, three–hour, and six–hour bundles. Medley O'Keefe, Gatewood, Wemple, Greco, Kritek, and Durvasula (2015) gave interesting statistics to support nurse–driven testing and sepsis–specific goal–directed therapy. This quote relates to the characters in All The Light We Cannot See because everyone is battling with love, truth, or identity while battling the war in Europe. Marie–Laure is living in Saint–Malo with her crazy great uncle while the war is raging on outside the city. Werner was accepted into the Hitler Youth School and was sent out into the war to track resistance radio signals. Sergeant von Rumpel is also on the search for the Sea of Flames diamonds, and what Marie–Laure doesn't know about her father can greatly hurt her. In this novel, three of the characters are searching for either truth, love, or identity. Knowing the difference between the truth and lies is a very common theme in All The Light We Cannot See. Many characters are lied to by their loved ones and about things that can affect them greatly, and von Rumpel wants to know the truth about the location about the Sea of Flames. Sergeant von Rumpel is in dire need of the Sea of Flames diamond, so he can showcase it in his new museum. He will do whatever is needed to locate the diamond among the vastness of Europe and the war. Before Paris was invaded, the Museum of Natural History made three replicas of the diamond and gave the replicas and the real diamond to four trustworthy employees. The catch: none of them knew if they had a replica of the real diamond. Von Rumpel was in Paris and found the shop of Dupont, which the owner later admitted to making replicas and dispersing them in many locations. Once von Rumpel found out the locations, he was even more determined to find all four "diamonds". Especially because he recently found out that he had been diagnosed with a tumor, and the stone is known to help a person live forever. He has visited many places in search for the replicas or the diamond: "Three replicas. Plus the real stone. Somewhere on this planet among its sextillion grains of sand." Von Rumpel has visited the museum, a jeweler, multiple homes, and Marie–Laure's house in Paris in search of the Sea of Flames. His main struggle is knowing if the stone is a replica or real. • 21. Evaluation Of The Research And Creative Work UROP Application Spring 2016 Christopher Jones Mentor: Trafton Drew Department of Psychology Statement of the Problem/Topic of the Research or Creative Work Visual Search is important in our everyday lives, and search relies on cues from the environment and uses object similarity to guide search. While much research has been done to see how visual similarity between objects affects visual search (Duncan and Humphreys 1989), very little research has been done to see how different types of similarity between objects compare in their effects on visual search. Specifically the proposed project would investigate how semantic similarity and visual similarity influence visual search using real world objects. The usage of real world objects is important because many laboratory visual search tasks are not reflective of visual search in a real world setting. Neural measures gathered from EEG (Electroencephalogram) data in the form of ERP (Event–Related Potential) components can be used to measure onset of attentional processing, as well as how distracting certain objects may or may not be. Specifically the N2PC reflects a shift in attention to a visual target. Using this ERP component, the neural differences between visual and semantic similarity in objects can be evaluated and compared between participants. While research shows there is a behavioral effect between visual and semantic similarity among distractors in visual search (De Groot, Huettig, and Olivers 2016), ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Specifically, in Chapter Eight, Carr analyzes the evolution of technology that has led to the invention of an efficient, revolutionary organization of knowledge: the search engine. For example, Google provides an online outlet to a seemingly infinite amount of information for internet users worldwide. Google is widely known as a necessity for everyday life: an incredible tool for searching the vast expansions of the world–wide web. Carr, frightened by the technological change that Google brings, describes how we are perpetually stuck between two modes of thinking. The online organization of knowledge that Google provides carries both positive and negative arguments; A database of that capacity allows individuals access to knowledge that would otherwise be inaccessible but Google also has a certain control over knowledge which is alarming. Google was created by two young men, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. They combined skills to create the perfect search engine they both envisioned. The now efficient, popular search engine built its image through internet traffic and economically through AdWords. A company as large as Google needs to be efficient, Frederick Winslow Taylor and his idea of the "one best method" of work, otherwise known as Taylorism, was the perfect fit for the company. A systematic approach is most likely to generate a beneficial review. Searches for literature reviews are attempted most ordinarily utilizing PCs and electronic databases. PC databases offer access to immense amounts of data, which can be recovered more effortlessly and rapidly than utilizing a manual hunt. It is vital along these lines to recognize which databases are applicable to the theme. Google scholar has latest information available and is freely accessible to all as compared to the other sources. Determination, humbleness, and empathy are few of the many words that can be used to describe Josh. With these values embedded within the young chess player, Josh began to show everyone who he really is. One of the many challenges that Josh faced and overcame was the constant pressure from his father and his chess teacher. After learning that his son was quite the chess player, the father signs Josh up with a teacher to further enhance his abilities. While this may seem harmless, it began to take a toll on Josh. When asked for a rematch with no holding back, Josh won without even being present at the chessboard – his opponent was too easy. Another example of humbleness would be the final battle of the movie: Josh vs Jonathan. In relation to adolescents, ELIS concerns "their engagement with information to address everyday life concerns, such as growing up, identity, relationships, careers, and life style choices" (Koh, 2013, pp. 1828). The tool that stands out the most and gave the best results was the "Verbatim" option under "All results". For example, when I search "Gerrymandering", no results containing synonyms, similar terms, previously used websites, or words from the same stem will appear in my results. The focus of this collection proposal is to bring books with diverse characters onto the shelves and make them easily accessible and visible to young children and families. I was provided with an allocated 5,000 dollars Canadian to spend on this special collection. My initial goal was to select books with people of colour as the main characters exclusively. The issue with this plan is there are lots of books about African Canadian children but not very many about Indigenous children. Due to this, I expanded my search criteria to include books featuring diverse characters where there were also people of colour featured as secondary characters. By expanding my search, I was able to feature more racially diverse characters. The first step in my selection process was searching online for lists of books published by organizations, schools and blogs that featured racially diverse main characters. • 56. Personalizaton through Searches on Google and Facebook is... Worldwide there is an underlying issue within search engines and social media. This issue is becoming evident as the number of people retrieving their news through Google and Facebook increases. Personalisation through searches is evolving to only show the consumer what they want to see not what they need to see. Online Organiser and Author of 'The Filter Bubble', Eli Pariser argues in his TED Talk about the unreliability of not being exposed to information that could broaden our worldwide view and possibly resolve pivotal democratic issues. This cycle of trying to consistently please the users is becoming evident within search organisations and has evolved with technology as algorithmic filters were introduced having an unbalanced and unethical filter. This invisible filter is now generating a "personal unique universe of information" (Pariser, 2011), for every individual user, enforcing the inability to have a functioning democracy because of the public not receiving accurate and most importantly balanced information. The Filter Bubble's motive is to create a personalised environment online through the search engine, by getting to know the source of sites it thinks it's consumer is interested in. The filter then only provides their subject with specific 'relevant' information. The continuous flow of information being shown on google and Facebook revolves around the commonly visited sites rather than things that benefit the users worldwide view and get them thinking (Eli ... That is the case between Celia and Marco in The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, but Celia and Marco do not realize the consequences. Many of their coworkers at the circus die because of their reckless relationship. Also, Celia and Marco put the competition, the circus, in jeopardy because their relationship can ruin the circus. The novel The Night Circus has three essential searches, and those are the search for acceptance, affection, and answers ☺ (Alliteration). Marco and Bailey are both on separate searches for acceptance. They are on different searches, but they both want to be accepted because both of them have been rejected. Marco just wants to spend time with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both of them question the mysteriousness of the circus, so they have become serious. Poppet is able to gaze into the future when she looks at people. Poppet uses that information that she collects to find answers to who is going be in the circus in the future. Tara is also curious about the circus, but for another reason. "She does her best to explain her concern. That there is more going on with the circus than most people are privy to" (Morgenstern 262). The book then continues to explain Tara's skepticism, and then Tara decides to investigate. Poppet and Tara both been affected by their investigations of the circus. Poppet wants to find more answers to not be depressed, but she does not like that she invades people's privacy to get her answers. Tara's search affected her way differently than Poppet's, and Tara's search lead to her being careless. Her carelessness eventually led to her demise because she was investigating and then got hit by a train. Poppet and Tara Burgess are two of the large amount of people who are on a search for answers. The search for acceptance, affection, and answers are all key parts to The Night Circus. All of those searches were eventually problematic because of Celia and Marco's relationship. Any of those searches should not allow you to fall in love with a life long adversary. I would give myself a 9.2/10 because I improved my transitions, but I could have made less grammar errors. • 62. The Impact Of Internet On Public Opinion On Society Today, the Internet is where society can find any type information, including the news worldwide. Companies, advertisers and online systems have personalized Internet experiences to draw in users. In other words, users are forced to read certain topics based on their search history and are recommended more of the same topics. This causes a large impact on public opinion in society, but the ability to find diverse content is more of an issue. The challenges to overcome diversity include, the user 's motivation, awareness and ability to seek for diverse content (Hoffman et al. 1). With the obstacles of filtering and web programming, are users receiving all the different viewpoints? Media content with filtering, personalization and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based on the user's search history, filtering is applied in the system. Programming would find a way to determine the search, in some way, similar to previous searches. Hoffman discusses more that, "The awareness challenge lies in users ' inability or difficulty in experiencing diversity due to a lack of knowledge about the production, filtering, and consumption mechanisms at play" (3). This forces users to view only what they are given. It will have viewers looking at stuff based on their previous searches. With this in mind, users awareness of different content is becoming nearly impossible if filtering is applied. The media is becoming more specific from large companies such as Google or Facebook, that can draw us to different sides with filtering technology for profit benefits. In Engin Bozdag's 2013 article, he shares that personalization is a major aspect for advertisers, and can be used for online targeting for potential customers (107). There are more online product purchases than ever before, and advertisers design these online personalization systems to persuade customers (Li and Unger 623). Advertisers collect customer data to design recommendations. Bozdag also adds, "Facebook uses various profile elements to display targeted advertising including age, gender, marital status, and education" (98). These companies earn large profit with advertisements because of filtering and personalization. In addition, it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. Strip Searches Persuasive Essay Strip Searches Should Be Illegal Ontario police officers often search civilians for evidence of a crime and they employ various methods to do so. However the method of using a strip search has become outdated and unnecessary in modern society. It is time for the practice of strip searching people to be stopped by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), even if it is a justified search. The people of Canada should be protected from these searches as they have the right to privacy and protection from invasive search practices. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms even has a section on protecting against "unreasonable searches", found in section 7 of the charter. If that is the case, why should the OPP be allowed to infringe on our rights through strip searches? The fact that in a modern society an illegal method of searching civilians is still being used is ridiculous. We have the technology to find and use less invasive methods of searching people that also abide by the law. The strip search, being such an invasive form of searching someone is humiliating and subjecting people to it should be stopped. There was a ruling in 2001 by the Supreme Court of Canada, which said that it was humiliating. The exact quote was "Strip searching is "inherently humiliating and degrading," the Supreme Court of Canada ruled in a landmark case 15 years ago, and should only be done when there are reasonable grounds" (Jacques). The fact that a strip search is humiliating means that as a society we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 66. Googlization Abstract In this paper, the main focus will lie on the differences that the librarians and students have when they tend to retrieve or manage the information that they search through online databases. Furthermore, we will discuss the importance of the knowledge management and controlled vocabulary as the main distinction between those librarians who are successful at information retrieval and teaching it and those students that aren't. We will discuss this under the light of some of the large search engines or web portals that are available to the librarians and the students as part of their search archives like Google; highlighting some of the facts that should be known and/or taught about these web portals before they can be used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, comparisons of librarians and students showed that the overall advantage of the accurate collection and retention of data was with the librarians because of the methodologies that they used top collect the information. The question then remains whether these librarians can efficiently and effectively teach these students the techniques that they use to gather information and allow them to exercise the same skills of knowledge management and controlled use of vocabulary and words within and outside the environment of the libraries (Gadzella and Baloglu, 2003). There are many academic psychologists and practitioners who have focused on this difference of success between the librarians and the students when it comes to understanding, retracting, managing and using the data that they gather fore a topic. Some researches chose to focus on the behaviors, characteristics, mental abilities and overall skill sets of the two entities to analyze the foundation behind the differences. There is a generalized belief among the researchers that the differences between the success of librarians and students does lie in the overall approach to the retrieval of information and the foundation, mental and personal, behind that approach. Furthermore, many researchers believe that the ability to retain the facts is also highly dependent upon the value or worth associated with them search (Gadzella and Baloglu, 2003). • 70. Personal Narrative : Search And Rescue Search and Rescue My life's vocation has been one of search and rescue. If it weren't cattle, it was people from all walks of life who had lost their way or did not know there was a better alternative than the lifestyle they felt fate had dealt to them. It was logical that sooner or later searching and a passion for flying would come together. I vividly remember my first flying experience. During spring break in my high school years, I happened to stop by the local hanger located on a hill that overlooked the cemetery in Russell. The approach for landing was a good reminder that one needs to be intentional about all life's decisions because each decision brings with it either more "life" or more "death." Decisions are never neutral. The decision to fly that day at the invitation of a local private pilot was not right or wrong in itself; it is just that I was not dressed appropriately for what turned out to be our actual destination and mission. What originally was planned as a flip around the town in a little two passenger J3 Piper Cub on a warm spring day turned into an unfiled excursion into the Riding Mountain National Park south of Dauphin, Manitoba looking for moose. It was winter in the park, and as we circled a small lake both of us caught sight of what seemed like a trapper in distress. His hand waving appeared much more urgent than a friendly acknowledgement. • 72. Similarities Between Gilgamesh And Oedipus Heroes are extraordinary characters who carry human qualities that reassure followers of the heroes' limitations. A hero is commonly considered a god, a being with great power that is brave enough to save whole cities. The human qualities are always their greatest fault, it comes in the image of pride, ego, selfishness, and even denial. These flaws are represented by the heroes Gilgamesh and Oedipus. Gilgamesh and Oedipus undertake journeys in search of a truth that will preserve their glory. While Gilgamesh searches for immortality, Oedipus searches for a different fate, both, fearing death. However, only one reaches their their goal. Similarly, both figures are kings; rulers of communities which reflect their ruling. In Gilgamesh's epic, the people knew of his endeavors and had to live with his sporadic acts because he was their ruler and accepted him as so. As declared, "Day and night his behavior became overbearing. He was their shepherd, yet powerful, superb, knowledgeable and expert, Gilgamesh would not leave young girls alone,"(199), and it is a positive reflection of his ruling due to the community accepting his antics through their approval of his leadership. On the other hand, Oedipus' ruling was a negative concept on the fate of the people. The people see his flaws and have their doubts of his rule once they realize he is the root of their suffering, yet do not fully accept the reality of the situation. • 74. John's Journey In Search For Truth By C. S. Lewis Throughout history, many people have dedicated their lives to search for the truth. Consequently, this has resulted in many different philosophies and religions. Likewise, C.S Lewis writes a book dealing with his conversation and spiritual journey in search for the truth. He uses a character named John and this boy's journey to represent his own journey through life. The first way John searches for the truth is in his search for happiness. He searches for happiness in many forms, but eventually finds the true source. Another way that John searches for the truth is through the different philosophies that various people present to him along his journey. Mr. Enlightenment is the first person that John meets on his travels. Accordingly, he introduces John to the philosophy of modern science and rationalism. According to Mr. Enlightenment, modern science and rational thinking can explain anything. Moreover, he tells John that, "the Landlord is an invention of those Stewards" (Lewis 1–2), and many people believe them because they lack scientific training. This leaves John with the notion that the landlord is a fake. Soon after, the Spirit of the Age captures John and holds him prisoner in a cell for many days. While he is imprisoned the Spirit of the Agee attempts to convince John and the rest of the prisoners, that they are nothing more than their internals. Nevertheless, a woman named Reason comes and rescues John. She tries to reach John that to find the truth, reason must be used. Reason explains to John that he is more knowledgeable than he perceives. It is just a matter of bringing, "dark part of your mind into the light part of it" (Lewis 2–4). Likewise, she talks about the importance of not making a decision without proof and how it is not bad to stay in wonderment. John meets History sometime after his encounters with Reason. He explains to John the nature of man in a relationship with the Landlord and the Island. He proposes that the Island is a means to attract us to the true source of happiness which is the landlord. Additionally, he proposes that the only way to truly reach the Landlord is through mother Kirk.
