How Bowling Came To Be A Sport
Have you ever wondered how bowling came to be a sport? With just a little research one can find
the answer. Bowling dates back to 3200 B.C. this means that it is over 5,000 years old!
Anthropologist concluded that they found objects that resemble the modern day ball and pin. There
next was evidence of bowling in 300 AD in Germany. However, bowling had been outlawed in
England because it was taking archery target practice time away from the king's troops. The first
time the term "bowling" was used in the U.S. was in 1812 by an author by the name of Washington
Irving. Different immigrants brought their own versions of bowling to America to help form the
nine–pin game. This nine pin game had been outlawed and had been seen as gambling and as a ...

The other side of bowling is competitive and a person is usually on a four or five person team while
they compete in leagues. There are some adult leagues that are less serious than others but most of
them offer a cash prize for whichever team is the best. There are also youth leagues where some of
them are harder to join than others, these leagues have teams compete against other teams within the
league as well. Many youths start off in these leagues and then bowl in high school and tryout for
college bowling. Once they hit college bowling things start changing. Normally at the alley there is
an oil pattern known as a house shot, which is what the majority of people bowl. Once they get to
collegiate level and beyond to professional bowling, the oil patterns change. The bowlers do not
know what the pattern is beforehand and this is called sport shot. It changes from tournament to
tournament and it is very difficult even for professional bowlers. Not only is it difficult to adjust to
the lanes, but when a bowler has been doing bad they start to not believe in their ability which just
makes the situation worse. Bowling is a mental sport as well, it is all about thinking and not
overthinking

The Pastoral Institute Research Paper
Agency Paper: The Pastoral Institute
Introduction
Pastoral counseling is a significant and important part of the counseling field, which is what sparked
my interest when choosing an agency. It was important to me to find out how they used their
spiritual basis in counseling to help their clients and the community, and whether or not they are
able to help and reach culturally diverse groups effectively. Also, due to the strict nature of religion,
I also wanted to find out whether their counseling practices placed any restrictions on their clients
and those they choose to affiliate themselves with. Initially, I spoke with an intake coordinator at the
facility who gave me a brief overview of the agency's mission, goals, and history, as well as the
services they provide both directly and indirectly. However, due to her limited knowledge of these
subjects, she suggested that I speak to the clinical director, Ms. Donna Plummer, who she felt could
provide me with more detailed information. Ms. Donna Plummer is Licensed Professional

The mission of The Pastoral Institute is to care for the emotional, relational, and spiritual needs of
people. The mission falls in line with the vision of The Pastoral Institute, which is to help inspire
and empower people to love, serve, and live meaningfully. When discussing the goals and objectives
of The Pastoral Institute from a counseling aspect, the most important goal is to restore emotional,
mental, spiritual, and family well–being. The objective is to holistically solve the client's problems
by integrating science, religion, and humanistic values. Recent studies show that religious beliefs
and practices are supportive to cope with stresses in life and are beneficial to mental health

Barrel Racing Research Paper
So, you think barrel racing is easy? Barrel racing, a rodeo event for women in which a rider runs
thirty miles per hour towards a barrel to go around it and run to the next. Even though you can have
a horse that teaches you, you should pick the horse that matches your riding style. The experience of
the rider is how you know whether you and the horse are going to be a good match. (Lisa Thomas)
The conformation of the horse, and having a horse with more muscle makes the picking process

With barrel horses, we focus on endurance to make sure they can keep up with the fast pace of the
race. Setting goals such as 6–8 miles at a fast pace at least three times a week to be able to open
there lungs up. (Robb Fowler) Laney Robinson does the same with her horses to help them
throughout the season. The horses heart is what makes the horse want to run without it, they are just
like any other horse. The competition of barrel racing starts out in the gate. You sit in the gate
waiting for your name along with your horse's name to be called. Once called you get ready. Most
horses get excited and do a little "happy" dance and you hold back on the reins. When your ready to
go you let him run. You run past a small timer on a tripod that starts and stops when you go past it.
(Stevee Casey) Depending on what your horse likes the most, either left or right you go that way.
(Stevee Casey) You then run around the barrel and off to the second one which is straight across

the arena, then running as fast to the entrance to get the fastest time that you can get. You try and do

Techniques to Boost Employee Morale Without Increasing...
In almost every industry, employers are trying to do more with less. Educational facilities
throughout the United States are working hard to deal with budget cuts and growing demands on
limited resources. Additionally, trade schools, college campuses and Universities across the nation
are witnessing that student enrollments are at an all–time high. Simply put, more is expected to be
done with less. Hard working educators are working to meet the expanding demands in their
classrooms and laboratories. Davis Applied Technology College in Kaysville, Utah is certainly no

As student needs spike, they are asked to do more with less. In addition, they are coping with
personal pressures: rising costs in college tuition and healthcare; shrinking values in assets like
homes and retirement funds; and increased responsibility for jobless family members. Fifty–four
percent of workers plan to look for another job when the economy improves, according to a survey
released in June by the Adecco Group, a company that helps businesses find temporary and
permanent workers (Watson, 2009). Seventy–one percent of 18 to 29 year olds say they are likely to
look for new jobs once the economy turns around, according to the same survey. Expecting workers
who are under stress to radiate enthusiasm and continually express gratitude for their jobs in

ineffective short–term strategy and will contribute to long–term problems (Watson, 2009).
Conversely, according to Hewitt Associates' Best Employers in Asia survey of 305 Asian companies,

Pros And Cons Of The Conservation Corps
My previous experiences with the Conservation Corps taught me so much. Not only did it help me
learn the importance of hard work, communication, and teamwork, but it opened my eyes to many
other vital skills. The Conservation Corps gave me perspective. I learned to look at people not as
their stereotypes, but for the individuals they were. When I was in immersed in nature, I never felt
so connected to who I am. I built life long friendships, learned to trust others even when it was
difficult, and found parts of myself that I'd never seen before. I want to return to the corps because
other, easier, jobs wouldn't offer me the same opportunities to grow the skills I originally learned. I
would be honored to become a Conservation Corps of MN and IA Wilderness Crew Member.
My biggest strength is my adaptability. I always try to have an open mind when I meet others who
have different views than me. I see the option for learning in my failures, and always keep in mind
my end goal when things don't always go as planned. My biggest weakness is that I always like to
be in control. I like to have a plan, and stick to it. I will overcome this weakness by trusting others to
take lead, and stop worrying about things I have no control over.
I have always been passionate about the environment and especially conservation. I would love to
learn about more ways to put conservation into action. I am a PADI Open Water Certified Scuba

Life Essay : What Is The Meaning Of Life
What is the meaning of life? For some people, it is to live for another person. For others, it is to live
for themselves. Personally, I believe that people live to achieve goals that they have set in their
lifetime, either if it is short or long term. I joined a gymnastics class when I was eight years old, and
enjoyed being there for almost a year. At the beginning, I was in the third grade and to me, every
subject was a piece of cake and there were no heaps of homework given from school, so I had an
abundance of free time on my hands. Then I transitioned into fourth grade, and I suddenly had a pile
of homework everyday that I couldn't do, because I had gymnastics class everyday for two hours.
During fourth grade, I had a sudden passion to become a doctor in the future, and with my grades
that are considered almost failing, my parents would lecture me about how my grades will not allow
me to become a doctor. Because of that, I had to choose to either stay in gymnastics, or to spend
more time on school work to improve my grades. When reaching their dreams, people must sacrifice
factors that distract them from achieving their goal and by doing so, they become more determined
to reach their dreams as shown in the play, A Raisin in the Sun, and by the professional tennis
player, Roger Federer.
In the play, A Raisin in the Sun, by Lorraine Hansberry, Walter Lee Younger, Lena Younger's son,

Equality Now ! Let Us Get Loud And Be Heard Essay
Equality Now! Let Us Get Loud and Be Heard Equality is a sensitive topic. We all heard it all
during the past elections. There are only few politicians who lobby for equal pay, equal rights,
equality across the board specifically if you are a woman. In April of 2016, Hillary Clinton a
Democratic Presidential Candidate said in an interview with New York Times she would "use every
tool" to close the wage gap. "It's something that is long overdue, but I know we've just got to keep
moving forward." Here is an example of a wage gap. To become an associate lawyer, one needs to
have four–year Bachelor Degree and three–year Juris Doctor Degree and pass the Bar Exam. Once
licensed, you can apply to any firm as an associate. New York Times writer, Elizabeth Olson wrote
in her article that a female partner earns an average of $659,000 annually compared with an average
of $949,000 for male partners, this was according to the latest survey big–firm partners released
October 2016 by the legal search firm Major, Lindsey & Africa. That is 44% wage gap between
genders. The survey company was monitoring the gender wage gap since 2010, which plummeted
down from 47% in the previous years. This made me wonder, what other fields does gender gap
exists? While doing my research, I found out that not only in the legal field does gender wage gap
exists. In fact, female athletes are paid less than their male counterparts. Female sports are less
popular and is not televised as opposed to male

The Transformation Of The Practice Of Hr
Human Resources has evolved from an area that would support the organizational needs to handle
the paper work of its employees into a robust department that plays a vital role in an organization's
growth. The transformation of the practice of HR has been phenomenal, from an order taker and
support for all the employees to a department that plays a key role in driving organizational
strategies with the invent of best places to work, creation of a family first environment and other
benefits catered towards employee retention. The idea that talented employee would like to work in
a high–freedom environment has seen a great impact with the organization growth and profits. Apart
from majors, there are profession associations and certifications in the area of HR that helps this
profession evolve further.
The role of human resources is a vital source of success for business. In early days when there was
no HR department, employees did not know how to act when difficult times strikes or how to solve
critical/ethical issues. After World War II, many soldiers were returning home; employers needed
help in recruiting workers. This was the time when HR evolved; a small group of managers came
together to build a professional society that served the purpose of the duties of HR department.

Bowling Report
Bowling Report History of Bowling Bowling has a long and rich history, and today is one of the
most popular sports in the world. A British anthropologist, Sir Flinders Petrie, discovered in the
1930's a collection of objects in a child's grave in Egypt that appeared to him to be used for a crude
form of bowling. If he was correct, then bowling traces its ancestry to 3200 BC. A German historian,
William Pehle, asserted that bowling began in his country about 300 AD. There is substantial
evidence that a form of bowling was in vogue in England in 1366, when King Edward III allegedly
outlawed it to keep his troops focused on archery practice. And it is almost certain that bowling was
popular during the reign of Henry VIII. By this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No longer did a proprietor have to rely on "pinboys". Television embraced bowling in the 1950's,
and the game's popularity grew exponentially. NBC's broadcast of "Championship Bowling" was the
first network coverage of bowling. Coverage proliferated with shows like "Make That Spare",
"Celebrity Bowling", and "Bowling For Dollars." And in 1961, ABC became the first network to
telecast competition of the Pro Bowlers Association. Successful promoter, agent and entrepreneur
Eddie Elias founded the PBA, and with his leadership, the Pro Bowlers Tour became a hugely
popular stalwart of ABC sports broadcasting. Joined later by telecasts of the Ladies Pro Bowlers
Tour (now the Professional Women's Bowling Association, PWBA) millions of Americans
witnessed and became interested in the sport. Today, the sport of bowling is enjoyed by 95 million
people in more ninety countries worldwide. Under the auspices of the Federation Nationale des
Quilleurs (FIQ) bowling's top athletes regularly compete in Olympic Zone and worldwide
competitions. Rules of Bowling The rules of bowling are fairly simple. What has been explained
above is the essence of the entire game. But of course there is slightly more to it than that. The
scoring system is one of those things. There are, as the name suggests, ten pins to knock down. How
many a player knocks down in a frame (with one or two balls) counts as the score for that frame. For

New Zealand : Electric Technology 's Professional Bodies
New Zealand: Electric Technology's Professional Bodies [Student's Name] [Institution Title]
Introduction Professional bodies are also known as professional associations, professional
organization or professional society. These are duly recognized institutions whose aim is to further
and promote a given profession to serve the best interest of its members and the general public
(Harvey, 2014). According to the book entitled Role of Professional Bodies in Higher Education
Quality Monitoring, a professional body has three significant roles to play (Harvey, Mason, & Ward,
1995). First, a professional body has the role to protect the best interest of the general public;
second, it also stands to act as a representative of a given profession to stand in behalf of its
practitioners that would pursue their goal towards professional development; and finally, a
professional body acts to protect the self–interest of the organization in aid of securing its personal
privileges and power to control the profession for which it stands to represent (Harvey, Mason, &
Ward, 1995). An online source offers a similar identification of the functions of a professional body.
However, in this source the professional body performs more than three functions. Aside from the
previously identified roles of the professional body, it also serves as regulating body that sets the
standards for a given profession (Total Professions Contributors, 2015). Furthermore, it also issues a

The Hall Of Fame: The Physics Of Bowling
It was the 2012 US Open. Pete Weber needed three strikes to win the title against Mike Fagan. He
threw his first shot, a strike. He knocked down all ten pins for the first strike. He throws another
great shot, and another strike up on the scoreboard for Weber. He needs one more strike to win. How
will he do it? By using the physics of bowling. Bowling is considered a life–long sport, but the
bowling ball, when thrown, has physics that determines the number of pins that fall down.
To start off, the basics of bowling are very simple, yet very important. One of the origins of bowling

The lane is a very important part of bowling– without it, there wouldn't be anything to throw the ball
onto. The distance from the approach to the foul line is 15–16 ft. From the foul line to the dots is 6
ft. The distance from the foul line to the arrows is 15 ft. The length from the foul line to the pins is
60 ft. There are many different types of lane surfaces– wood, synthetic, guardian, and lane shield. A
wood lane with a water based finish is very soft and will have lots of friction. A wood lane with an
epoxy urethane finish is a bit harder than a wood lane with a water based finish, but still will have a
lot of friction. On a lane with a wood overlay, also known as guardian and lane shield, there is a lot
of friction with early backend reaction. The most popular synthetic lane is a Brunswick Pro–
Anvilane. It is the hardest surface and has less friction. You can use more aggressive equipment,
such as a Marvel S and Crux without the ball rolling too early. These lanes also have four range

is a lot of strategy and skill to the game. There are many rules that come with the sport, and they
have changed quite a lot over the years. Bowling has been traced all the way back to the Ancient
Egyptians and the basis of the sport has always been the same throw an object down a "Lane" and

the automatic pin setter and automatic score keeper. In today's modern society the equipment used is

insufficient evidence. A lot of the plays happen so fast and some of the rule violations may be too
fast for the naked eye to see. With that being said, the Major League Baseball association has

As a league they want to grow not only locally, but globally, which is why the society as a whole has
the power to make that possible. Looking at some international countries like India with cricket
being their main sport with rules similar to baseball, but don't have the finances to pay as much as
MLB would be interested in sending some potential pitchers/bowlers to baseball, but if the society is
not properly informed about for example, the level of intensity, recruiting will be at risk. This is why
MLB recently came up with MLB.com Digital Academy similar to Hawk–Eye which basically
brings resources to parents, youth players and coaches informing them about players swing analysis
and professional level–pitch. In terms of globalization this will help countries like India trust the
capabilities of the system and instruct them on what they are expected to do and protect their
investments.
Lastly, an important factor to consider would be the introduction of fantasy sports which is slowly
growing because of fans in the society willing to invest in different sports like Baseball and
Football. Technology such as Hawk–Eye and Digital Academy will encourage fans to place their

are several parts to the vehicle called Employee Assistance Programs, or EAPs. Employee

Gus could be having financial problems resulting from his excessive drinking. He may be inclined
to take work materials from his job in order to do some things on the side, or even sell the
merchandise he stole for extra money. If Sharon is having problems with child care or home
responsibilities, her work performance may be significantly affected. Studies show that this type of
stress on a woman in the workforce contribute to the high rate of alcoholism among working women
(Myers 7). It is suspected that this stress contributes to higher rates of drug use as well. Also on the
list of troubles are gambling, legal problems, violence and mental illness. 80 to 100 million people
in the United States gamble regularly. Of that number, 6 percent ( six million people) have a
problem with compulsive gambling (Myers 6). Violence is a serious issue in the workplace. As
many as 20 workers a week are murdered (Cascio 589). On–the–job violence may be the effect of
any number of stressors on an employee who feels there is no other way to vent his frustration.
There could be any number of reasons, previously stated and otherwise, that might precipitate legal
problems also. Legal problems and gambling debts are two additional stressors that an otherwise
outstanding employee may have to tackle, causing him to be violent or in some other way troubled.
An employee may have other issues that may not be as obviously dangerous and alcoholism or
violence.

Organizational Behavior At First Alabama Bank
Introduction The paper explores organizational behavior at First Tennessee Bank (FTB), which is
under the First Horizon National Cooperation (FHNC). FHNC is a financial organization that is
located in Tennessee in the US. The products and services offered by the organization include
checking and savings accounts, financial planning, asset, management, trustee services, investment

for at least a hundred and fifty years (First Tennessee, 2015). Therefore, it is a well–established
community based financial service provider. Organizational behavior is an integral aspect of various
successful businesses. "The study of organizational behavior is primarily concerned with
psychological, interpersonal, and behavioral dynamics in organizations. However, organizational
variables that affect human behavior at work are also relevant to the study of organizational
behavior." (Nelson, & Quick, 2012) For a more precise understanding of the organizational behavior
at FTB, it is important to identify certain norms and characteristics that determine the aspects of the
regional bank. Some of these characteristics of organizational behavior include, firstly, attitudes and
values of employees for example company culture, social responsibility and others. Secondly,
motivation and performance, which encompass factors like, job security, bonuses, raises, and

Zachary Crockett Bowling
Zachary Crockett published the article "The Rise and Fall of Professional Bowling" in March of
2014 in order to inform readers about the history of professional bowling. Currently, the
Professional Bowlers Association, or PBA, is facing an extreme decline in popularity mainly due to
low funds. Even though there are many people who love the sport of bowling and support the
professionals, the sport as a whole is on a decline. In the article, Crockett basically talks about the
entire history of bowling. In the second half of the article though, he heavily analyzes the fall of
bowling starting in the 1980s and what the professional tour needs to succeed again. This article is

Barrel Racing Problem
Fixing a problem is never easy, that's why everyone calls it a problem. My problem certainly wasn't
easy, especially considering it focused around a fifteen hundred pound animal that has an attitude.
My problem actually has a name; his name is Preacher. Having a powerful, sorrel colored Quarter
Horse, who towers over everything, you wouldn't believe he would act like an adolescent; but he is
indolent and temperamental. Like I said, the process of fixing a problem to be difficult, but like my
trainer says "The hardest part is figuring out how to solve the problem without creating another
one." Solving one problem and creating another at the same time is really easy to achieve. Riding a

Learning how he stops with the bit, how he responds to pressure, what he does if I approach the
barrel in different ways was essential to the retraining process. The first week of retraining, I tried
different bits, and not once did I approach a barrel; I wanted to observe how he stopped, how he
responded to each bit. If he reacted inadequately to a bit, I didn't want him to associate it with
barrels. How he moved, how he responded to each queue that I gave him accordingly was a
important part of the learning process. Slowly, but surely we started connecting, and learning
together. I studied how he worked and he was learning who was in charge. Learning all of the
objectives, took some time, nevertheless, we had trouble getting connected but once we did, we
started figuring out how to correct our problems quickly and efficiently. After five attempts I tried
something new... I pushed him as tremendously as he could run towards the first barrel, and not
letting him have the time to even contemplate the thought about stopping, I wanted him to listen to
my queues, "You require him listen to you, you are his brains and he is your feet, they need to be

Professional Counseling Focuses on Development, Wellness...
Professional counseling is different from other counseling and psychology related fields. The desire
of social work is to help the destitute. Psychology wants to understand the nature of a person.
Psychiatry deals with medical interventions. Professional counseling which officially grew out of
the vocational counseling movement of the twentieth century (Neukrug, 2014) tends to focus on
development, prevention and wellness (Mellin, Hunt, & Nichols, 2011). It is this focus on
development, prevention and wellness that brings challenge to the role and identity of the
professional counselor at times, but also gives the professional counselor direction, especially in the
area of specialization (Mellin, Hunt, & Nichols, 2011). Professional Counselors are clinical mental
health counselors that have graduated from an accredited university with a degree in clinical mental
health counseling or a similar degree in counseling. The Master's level degree at Liberty University
for the professional counselor is a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling. The degree is
maintained by accreditation requirements and most schools offering degrees in professional
counseling are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational

hour requirement) and the graduate student has the opportunity to join various professional

Personal Narrative: Certified Open Water
The terrifying possibilities that come with facing one's greatest fears are often enough to keep one
from facing what truly horrifies them but also inspires and intrigues them. Fear can be the anxiety
inducing emotion but it can also be the catalyst for one's greatest achievements. Many of us question
whether the decisions and risks we take will result in a grounding breaking idea, or whether the path

As a teenager, my passion for marine biology ran rampant in all parts of my life. I went as far as

However, obtaining the certification wasn't as simple as putting on a diver's suit. Gliding through the

BEAR CREEK GOLF RANGE
CURRENT SITUATION:
Established by Dan Shay and George Patton on May 1, 1993, Bear Creek Golf Range was to be a
professional golf range whose goal was to "establish an image as the 'professional golfing center',
run by professionals." The company emphasis was on its ability to provide top quality training and
service to experienced serious golfers. It also hoped to provide its golfers with first–class amenities
that would have established itself as an upscale facility far above average facilities. Unfortunately,
Bear Creek experienced a few financial issues early in its development which prevented it from
achieving its initial plans. These issues along with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will produce an initial increase in expenses and drain on revenues but in the long term
profitability will increase.
3. Targeting the college golf teams market should increase Bear Creek's usage rate.
a. (Pro) Expansion to college golf teams would make sense because Bear Creek would be able to
maintain a serious golfing atmosphere due to the fact that college sports are highly competitive and
many teams have athletes who have received full–ride scholarships to play golf. Colleges have both
men's and women's teams which means this solution also will tap into the women golfers market.
Most college students practice during the week which will increase Bear Creek's customer traffic.
All of these facts will increase Bear Creek's revenues, daily usage and profitability.
b. (Pro) Reaching out to the various coaches of the local colleges would give Bear Creek the
opportunity to increase the number of lessons it will perform. This solution would utilize Bear
Creek's existing expertise and with success would increase its reputation and visibility which will
increase revenue and profitability.
c. (Con) Building relationships with the local colleges will take time. Due to this fact this solution
may not generate immediate revenue.
RECOMMENDED SOLUTION:
It is recommended Bear Creek expand its target market to include college golfing. This solution
would maintain its

Roller skating rinks and bowling alleys are two places that people visit for recreational purposes.

people do go by themselves, while others take along a friend or family member(s). I visited both of
these facilities in order to conduct field research and do a micro–level analysis so as to gather
primary data from the natural environment about society and patterns of social behavior. While in

This is the local bowling alley in Ellicott City, MD. It is considered to be more than just a bowling
alley as it has a billiard table, lounge, snack bar, and arcade. It is quite large and has over 30 lanes.
There were several employees along with league bowlers and people who walked in when I visited.
The first thing that I noticed was the variety of people who were there. The ages of the people were
approximately 20 to 60 years old. The ethnic makeup of participants was primarily Caucasian and
African American. The social groups at this location included couples, families, people who belong
to bowling leagues, and groups of friends. They all varied in age and gender. Most were dressed in
pants and other casual clothing items. All were required to wear bowling shoes. There was a lot of
cheering and bantering going on amongst the groups. Some people were quite loud and gave each
other high fives (a form of symbolic interactionism), especially if they or someone they know
bowled a strike where all of the pins are knocked down. This is acceptable behavior at a bowling
alley. Some of the formal norms posted at the bowling alley are not eating food, beverages and
substances near the approach area and not bowing when a bowler is bowling in the next lane. Most
people were eating and drinking in appropriate places in between taking a turn to bowl. There was a

Barrel Racing Essay
Barrel racing is a timed event in rodeos where a rider and horse try to complete a clover leaf pattern
in the fastest time. It takes skills from the rider and the horse to make a good run. It takes good
athletic ability from the horse and good horsemanship from the rider to take a horse safely through
the barrels. The judges set up the barrels in a triangle in the center of the arena. There is normally a
flagger in the ring that waves a flag when you start and waves it again when you cross the finish
line. There is a person that starts and stops the timer when that flag is waved.
This event was originally made for women. When barrel racing first started the pattern fluctuated

The fastest time gets a half of a second added onto it to make the 2D division. Then the fastest 1D
time gets a whole second added to it to make the 3D division. The 4D division is one and a half
seconds added to the fastest time of the whole event.
There are some rules in barrel racing. Number one is the fastest time wins. The rider and horse aren't
judged on anything but that. If the rider and horse run past a barrel and get out of the pattern, they
get a "no time" score or they get disqualified. If the racer or her horse knocks a barrel over, they get
a five second penalty which normally gives them a time that is to slow to win or place. There is a
sixty second time limit to complete the course. The barrels have to be fifty five gallons, they have to
be metal, and they have to be at least two colors. Most competitions also require the rider to wear a
long sleeve western shirt that is tucked in, western cut pants or jeans, a western hat, and western
boots. The contestant has to be dressed like this one hour before the event.
There is also special tack that is used for barrel racing. Bits are one thing. There isn't any rule that
says what type of bit you have to use but there are bits that are more common to riders than others.
The type of bit used is determined by the riders based on the horses needs. Bits with longer shanks
cause the horse to stop faster and bits with shorter shanks are used for more lateral work. Other

A bull rider's basic gear he uses is a helmet, vest, rope, bell, and chaps. The helmet and vest are used
for protection, the rope is what you tie on the bull and what you use to hang on with, the bell goes
on the bottom of the rope so when you fall off the rope does to ita also agitates the bull and makes
him buck harder, and the chaps are just for looks. In bull riding to even be scored you must stay on
for 8 seconds, which is a lot harder than it may seem. People think well its only 8 seconds how hard
can that be well there is one thing you have to keep in mind you are getting strapped on to 2,000

Celebrity Puppets Essay
Celebrity Puppets
The concept of using sports stars to market non–sport items has soared to new heights. Every
corporation in the world is trying to get the edge over their competitors. The classic example is that
of the "Cola Wars." During the 1980s, Pepsi and Coca Cola began an advertising slugfest, in which
Pepsi emerged victorious by using Madonna and Michael Jackson as puppets in their commercials.
These two companies, as well as thousands of others, have taken advantage of exposing celebrities
in their commercials and advertisements. This is done as a means to persuade the public that these
products are worth buying.
As the years went by, marketers began to realize that in America, sports imagery constituted the

This is how companies view their celebrity endorsers and partners: the companies see that it can
bring in a profit from the celebrities on field successes. To make it look as though these celebrities
are not being used, the companies pay them a small dividend as a thank you. In essence, the
companies are controlling said celebrities. In the case of Mr. Owens, by dangling him in front of the
public eye, the company holds him by the strings to make him do as they wish through a pay–off.
The last decade has seen the emergence of a new breed of celebrities onto the marketing scene.
These celebrities are not involved in sports that society easily recognizes. Instead, they are the
bowlers of the PBA Tour and the drivers of the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. As late as the early
1990s bowling tournaments were named after their specific location and bowlers were viewed as
just that, bowlers. Advancements in bowling ball technology created a more competitive field of
bowlers and a new and younger generation of marketers has realized that these bowlers are a great
source of advertising for their products. As a result, today's PBA bowlers wear patches with their
sponsors on them. Some have even gone as far as placing their major sponsors' logo on their spare
balls. These sponsors include Odor Eaters, Pepsi, Miller High Life, Holiday Inn, and Baby Ruth, to
name a few.
NASCAR, the nation's fastest growing sport, has received sponsor money since its creation.

Rodeo arenas need a good surface. It does not need to be too soft or too rough. If the soil in the
arena is too soft or too muddy, it can mess up the rider´s time. If the soil for the arena is too rough or
slick, it is dangerous for a running horse. If the soil for the arena is loosely packed, it is just right for
rodeos and barrel racing. There are certain rules and ways that has to be followed to make the good

the alleyway into the arena and starts for the first barrel. Before the rider and horse get to the first
barrel, they trigger the timer. Usually the contestant goes for the right barrel first. Others go to the
left barrel first. When they get to the first barrel, if their first barrel is on the left then they turn left
around the barrel, but if their first barrel is on the right then they turn right around the barrel. On to
their second barrel they make a right if they went left on their first barrel, but they make a left
around the second barrel if they went right on their first one. Then they run down to the third barrel
and make a right if they made a right on the second

How Bowling Came To Be A Sport

  • 1. How Bowling Came To Be A Sport Have you ever wondered how bowling came to be a sport? With just a little research one can find the answer. Bowling dates back to 3200 B.C. this means that it is over 5,000 years old! Anthropologist concluded that they found objects that resemble the modern day ball and pin. There next was evidence of bowling in 300 AD in Germany. However, bowling had been outlawed in England because it was taking archery target practice time away from the king's troops. The first time the term "bowling" was used in the U.S. was in 1812 by an author by the name of Washington Irving. Different immigrants brought their own versions of bowling to America to help form the nine–pin game. This nine pin game had been outlawed and had been seen as gambling and as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The other side of bowling is competitive and a person is usually on a four or five person team while they compete in leagues. There are some adult leagues that are less serious than others but most of them offer a cash prize for whichever team is the best. There are also youth leagues where some of them are harder to join than others, these leagues have teams compete against other teams within the league as well. Many youths start off in these leagues and then bowl in high school and tryout for college bowling. Once they hit college bowling things start changing. Normally at the alley there is an oil pattern known as a house shot, which is what the majority of people bowl. Once they get to collegiate level and beyond to professional bowling, the oil patterns change. The bowlers do not know what the pattern is beforehand and this is called sport shot. It changes from tournament to tournament and it is very difficult even for professional bowlers. Not only is it difficult to adjust to the lanes, but when a bowler has been doing bad they start to not believe in their ability which just makes the situation worse. Bowling is a mental sport as well, it is all about thinking and not overthinking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Pastoral Institute Research Paper Agency Paper: The Pastoral Institute Introduction Pastoral counseling is a significant and important part of the counseling field, which is what sparked my interest when choosing an agency. It was important to me to find out how they used their spiritual basis in counseling to help their clients and the community, and whether or not they are able to help and reach culturally diverse groups effectively. Also, due to the strict nature of religion, I also wanted to find out whether their counseling practices placed any restrictions on their clients and those they choose to affiliate themselves with. Initially, I spoke with an intake coordinator at the facility who gave me a brief overview of the agency's mission, goals, and history, as well as the services they provide both directly and indirectly. However, due to her limited knowledge of these subjects, she suggested that I speak to the clinical director, Ms. Donna Plummer, who she felt could provide me with more detailed information. (Lisa Thomas) The conformation of the horse, and having a horse with more muscle makes the picking process easier. Looking at breed along with the size is important. (Robb Fowler) Laney Robinson does the same with her horses to help them throughout the season. The horses heart is what makes the horse want to run without it, they are just like any other horse. The competition of barrel racing starts out in the gate. You sit in the gate waiting for your name along with your horse's name to be called. Once called you get ready. Most horses get excited and do a little "happy" dance and you hold back on the reins. When your ready to go you let him run. You run past a small timer on a tripod that starts and stops when you go past it. (Stevee Casey) Depending on what your horse likes the most, either left or right you go that way. (Stevee Casey) You then run around the barrel and off to the second one which is straight across from the first. Educational facilities throughout the United States are working hard to deal with budget cuts and growing demands on limited resources. Seventy–one percent of 18 to 29 year olds say they are likely to look for new jobs once the economy turns around, according to the same survey. Expecting workers who are under stress to radiate enthusiasm and continually express gratitude for their jobs in unrealistic. Relying upon the recession and fear of job loss to maintain worker productivity is an ineffective short–term strategy and will contribute to long–term problems (Watson, 2009). Not only did it help me learn the importance of hard work, communication, and teamwork, but it opened my eyes to many other vital skills. The Conservation Corps gave me perspective. I learned to look at people not as their stereotypes, but for the individuals they were. When I was in immersed in nature, I never felt so connected to who I am. I built life long friendships, learned to trust others even when it was difficult, and found parts of myself that I'd never seen before. I want to return to the corps because other, easier, jobs wouldn't offer me the same opportunities to grow the skills I originally learned. I would be honored to become a Conservation Corps of MN and IA Wilderness Crew Member. My biggest strength is my adaptability. I always try to have an open mind when I meet others who have different views than me. I see the option for learning in my failures, and always keep in mind my end goal when things don't always go as planned. My biggest weakness is that I always like to be in control. I like to have a plan, and stick to it. I will overcome this weakness by trusting others to take lead, and stop worrying about things I have no control over. • 7. Life Essay : What Is The Meaning Of Life What is the meaning of life? For some people, it is to live for another person. For others, it is to live for themselves. Personally, I believe that people live to achieve goals that they have set in their lifetime, either if it is short or long term. I joined a gymnastics class when I was eight years old, and enjoyed being there for almost a year. At the beginning, I was in the third grade and to me, every subject was a piece of cake and there were no heaps of homework given from school, so I had an abundance of free time on my hands. Then I transitioned into fourth grade, and I suddenly had a pile of homework everyday that I couldn't do, because I had gymnastics class everyday for two hours. During fourth grade, I had a sudden passion to become a doctor in the future, and with my grades that are considered almost failing, my parents would lecture me about how my grades will not allow me to become a doctor. Because of that, I had to choose to either stay in gymnastics, or to spend more time on school work to improve my grades. When reaching their dreams, people must sacrifice factors that distract them from achieving their goal and by doing so, they become more determined to reach their dreams as shown in the play, A Raisin in the Sun, and by the professional tennis player, Roger Federer. There are only few politicians who lobby for equal pay, equal rights, equality across the board specifically if you are a woman. In April of 2016, Hillary Clinton a Democratic Presidential Candidate said in an interview with New York Times she would "use every tool" to close the wage gap. "It's something that is long overdue, but I know we've just got to keep moving forward." Here is an example of a wage gap. To become an associate lawyer, one needs to have four–year Bachelor Degree and three–year Juris Doctor Degree and pass the Bar Exam. Once licensed, you can apply to any firm as an associate. New York Times writer, Elizabeth Olson wrote in her article that a female partner earns an average of $659,000 annually compared with an average of $949,000 for male partners, this was according to the latest survey big–firm partners released October 2016 by the legal search firm Major, Lindsey & Africa. That is 44% wage gap between genders. The survey company was monitoring the gender wage gap since 2010, which plummeted down from 47% in the previous years. This made me wonder, what other fields does gender gap exists? While doing my research, I found out that not only in the legal field does gender wage gap exists. In fact, female athletes are paid less than their male counterparts. Female sports are less popular and is not televised as opposed to male ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A British anthropologist, Sir Flinders Petrie, discovered in the 1930's a collection of objects in a child's grave in Egypt that appeared to him to be used for a crude form of bowling. If he was correct, then bowling traces its ancestry to 3200 BC. A German historian, William Pehle, asserted that bowling began in his country about 300 AD. There is substantial evidence that a form of bowling was in vogue in England in 1366, when King Edward III allegedly outlawed it to keep his troops focused on archery practice. The scoring system is one of those things. There are, as the name suggests, ten pins to knock down. New Zealand : Electric Technology 's Professional Bodies New Zealand: Electric Technology's Professional Bodies [Student's Name] [Institution Title] Introduction Professional bodies are also known as professional associations, professional organization or professional society. These are duly recognized institutions whose aim is to further and promote a given profession to serve the best interest of its members and the general public (Harvey, 2014). According to the book entitled Role of Professional Bodies in Higher Education Quality Monitoring, a professional body has three significant roles to play (Harvey, Mason, & Ward, 1995). First, a professional body has the role to protect the best interest of the general public; second, it also stands to act as a representative of a given profession to stand in behalf of its practitioners that would pursue their goal towards professional development; and finally, a professional body acts to protect the self–interest of the organization in aid of securing its personal privileges and power to control the profession for which it stands to represent (Harvey, Mason, & Ward, 1995). An online source offers a similar identification of the functions of a professional body. However, in this source the professional body performs more than three functions. • 30. Workplace Observation Paper Roller skating rinks and bowling alleys are two places that people visit for recreational purposes. Although I have gone bowling a couple of times, I have never gone roller skating at a rink. Some people do go by themselves, while others take along a friend or family member(s). I visited both of these facilities in order to conduct field research and do a micro–level analysis so as to gather primary data from the natural environment about society and patterns of social behavior. While in public, there are certain rules of behavior that are generally followed, which are considered acceptable by the members of society (McLeod, 2008). Individuals who do not follow these norms may be shunned or suffer some type of ramification (McLeod, 2008). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the local bowling alley in Ellicott City, MD. It is considered to be more than just a bowling alley as it has a billiard table, lounge, snack bar, and arcade. It is quite large and has over 30 lanes. There were several employees along with league bowlers and people who walked in when I visited. The first thing that I noticed was the variety of people who were there. The ages of the people were approximately 20 to 60 years old. The ethnic makeup of participants was primarily Caucasian and African American. The social groups at this location included couples, families, people who belong to bowling leagues, and groups of friends. They all varied in age and gender. Most were dressed in pants and other casual clothing items. All were required to wear bowling shoes. There was a lot of cheering and bantering going on amongst the groups. Some people were quite loud and gave each other high fives (a form of symbolic interactionism), especially if they or someone they know bowled a strike where all of the pins are knocked down. This is acceptable behavior at a bowling alley. Some of the formal norms posted at the bowling alley are not eating food, beverages and substances near the approach area and not bowing when a bowler is bowling in the next lane. Most people were eating and drinking in appropriate places in between taking a turn to bowl. There was a good deal of conversation happening among the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Barrel Racing Essay Barrel racing is a timed event in rodeos where a rider and horse try to complete a clover leaf pattern in the fastest time. It takes skills from the rider and the horse to make a good run. It takes good athletic ability from the horse and good horsemanship from the rider to take a horse safely through the barrels. The judges set up the barrels in a triangle in the center of the arena. There is normally a flagger in the ring that waves a flag when you start and waves it again when you cross the finish line. There is a person that starts and stops the timer when that flag is waved. This event was originally made for women. The 4D division is one and a half seconds added to the fastest time of the whole event. There are some rules in barrel racing. Number one is the fastest time wins. The rider and horse aren't judged on anything but that. If the rider and horse run past a barrel and get out of the pattern, they get a "no time" score or they get disqualified. If the racer or her horse knocks a barrel over, they get a five second penalty which normally gives them a time that is to slow to win or place. There is a sixty second time limit to complete the course. The barrels have to be fifty five gallons, they have to be metal, and they have to be at least two colors. Most competitions also require the rider to wear a long sleeve western shirt that is tucked in, western cut pants or jeans, a western hat, and western boots. The contestant has to be dressed like this one hour before the event. There is also special tack that is used for barrel racing. Bits are one thing. There isn't any rule that says what type of bit you have to use but there are bits that are more common to riders than others. The type of bit used is determined by the riders based on the horses needs. Bits with longer shanks cause the horse to stop faster and bits with shorter shanks are used for more lateral work. Every corporation in the world is trying to get the edge over their competitors. The classic example is that of the "Cola Wars." During the 1980s, Pepsi and Coca Cola began an advertising slugfest, in which Pepsi emerged victorious by using Madonna and Michael Jackson as puppets in their commercials. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is how companies view their celebrity endorsers and partners: the companies see that it can bring in a profit from the celebrities on field successes. To make it look as though these celebrities are not being used, the companies pay them a small dividend as a thank you. In essence, the companies are controlling said celebrities. In the case of Mr. Owens, by dangling him in front of the public eye, the company holds him by the strings to make him do as they wish through a pay–off. The last decade has seen the emergence of a new breed of celebrities onto the marketing scene. These celebrities are not involved in sports that society easily recognizes. Instead, they are the bowlers of the PBA Tour and the drivers of the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. As late as the early 1990s bowling tournaments were named after their specific location and bowlers were viewed as just that, bowlers. Advancements in bowling ball technology created a more competitive field of bowlers and a new and younger generation of marketers has realized that these bowlers are a great source of advertising for their products. As a result, today's PBA bowlers wear patches with their sponsors on them. Some have even gone as far as placing their major sponsors' logo on their spare balls. These sponsors include Odor Eaters, Pepsi, Miller High Life, Holiday Inn, and Baby Ruth, to name a few. NASCAR, the nation's fastest growing sport, has received sponsor money since its creation. ...
