main religions. What is now called Hinduism began in India around 2000 years before the birth of

its followers from all over the world not just limited to the traditional geographical locations.

Oprah Winfrey's television series, Belief Buddhism has become something I wished to look into on
a deeper level. Therefore, On October 9, 2016, I visited Wesleyan college East Asian studies
facilities to participate in their Sunday meeting of Practice and Talk. During this hour and a half
meeting, individuals who are exploring Buddhism will learn the surface practice of Buddhism more
specifically shin Buddhism. Shin Buddhism or the teachings of Shinran (1173–1262), teaches us the
importance of humility, the most important universal virtue. Many people think that the ultimate
goal in Buddhism as well as human life is to become good. But according to Shinran, it is to become
humble.
During the meeting, the instructor welcomed us into a calm, relaxing room with a view of a Zen
garden as we removed our shoes before entering the room. At first the removed of my shoes was a
huge culture shock because I have only removed my shoes to enter my home and never for a
meeting. This instant shock in my normal religious experience opened my mind to what was to
occur in the next hour and a half of the meeting. As we proceeded to sit down in the room a

The story of the Buddha has become myth over the great span of time since Buddhism's founding in
the 6th century BCE. The birth of Siddhartha reads like fable. His mother is said to have had visions
of a lotus bared by a white elephant the night before Siddhartha's conception, and to have given a

Buddhism made its way into China during the Han dynasty which existed during the years 206 BCE
to 220 CE. The period in which Buddhism was introduced into China was a trying one, a time where
China was "(forcibly unified)...by the Ch'in." The emperor of the Han dynasty was the heir to this
new China. Despite this situation, the Han dynasty was an "era of rapid economic development...and

Buddhism is a religion that about 300 million people around the world follow. The word comes from
'budhi ' which means 'to awaken '. It has its roots about 2,500 years ago when Siddhartha Gotama,
known as the Buddha, was 'awakened' at the age of 35. To many people in the world that follow
Buddhism, Buddhism goes beyond religion and is more of a philosophy or 'way of life ' for the
people that follow it. It is a philosophy because philosophy 'means love of wisdom '. The Buddhist
path can be basically explained as:
(1) leading a moral life
(2) being mindful and aware of thoughts and actions
(3) developing wisdom and understanding Siddhartha Gotama was born into a royal family in
Lumbini, now located in Nepal, in 563 BC. At 29, he realised that money and luxury did not
guarantee happiness, so he explored the different teachings religions and philosophies of the day, to

Buddhists believed in birth, rebirth and Karma which is the cause and effect in making an action.
Every action has its effect and this actually links to the cycle of rebirth which resulted in endless
suffering. Buddhists then seek a way to be free from this endless suffering which is to understand
the teaching of Buddha; which consists of the three universal truths, the four noble truths, the noble
Eightfold path, the triple Jewel and the five precepts which together are known as Dharma.

Since the Buddha had lived in a life of luxury and poverty, neither of it brings happiness to him
which makes him suffer. He, therefore taught that middle way is the way to overcome between the
two extremes of life. He actually spent most of his life to learning about the nature and the cause of
suffering which cause The Noble eightfold path to exist.

treatment to be free from suffering. This can only work if the person takes full responsibility and

understand the truth, we can see the world without delusion, hatred and greed. It is one of the factors
that constitute wisdom.
Next, is the right thought. This taught about determining and resolving our suffering by paying
attention our action to others. If our intentions are full with anger and greed, we are likely to cause

Buddhism is one of the major religions of the world; it was founded in India and is based on the
teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, Buddha, or the Enlightened One/Awakened One. Buddhism is
non–theistic and is not based on any concept of a supreme or one ruling God. A Buddhist approach
is a naturalistic one and the sole purpose of the followers is to end or reduce suffering (dukkha) and
attain a state of liberation or enlightenment and the freedom from the cycle of death and rebirth
(Nirvana). Buddhist are their own Buddha and the answers of the world will not end their suffering
but within themselves they are capable of reaching nirvana. Buddhism has two major points of view
that differ in their telling of Buddha and claim to be the "correct" story.1 Theravadin is considered
the more conservative view and Mahayana is considered the more creative view, these two views
tell the story of Buddha and the followers believe their version is the correct version. These differing
views make up the religion of Buddhism and the followers carry out the word of their branch. The
view of Theravadin Buddhism is the more conservative view and it follows more firmly the original
teachings of Buddha it is often referred to as the "path of the elders". 1 Theravadin Buddhists
believe Buddha is an inspirer and supreme teacher not a God but the very highest human. Buddha
believed that the human experience included great suffering, nothing is permanent and nothing in
