The Issue Of Popular Support
The issue of popular support is further connected to terrorist group's specific objectives, or goals. In
general, terrorists motivated by a religious component are often associated with 'apocalyptic' like
goals. Hoffman notes that these 'apocalyptic' goals, are in nature more violent when compared to the
often more tangible political based goals of many secular groups. The association between
religiously motivated terrorist groups and apocalyptic like goals is well known throughout
academia. Jessica Stern's book, Terror in the Name of God further references this connection. She is
particularly careful not to equate these general end–of–time beliefs to one religion in particular.
Instead she notes how such beliefs often span across multiple religions by noting their presence in
various sacred texts across all three of the major Abrahamic faiths. She further ties back to
Hoffman's work when discussing how apocalyptic like goals often allow for more violence and
destruction when compared to other terrorist objectives (such as forming a new government, or
expelling a foreign nation from perceived territory). While Hoffman notes the specific constituency
that secular terrorists must appeal to, Stern ties the lack of a needed supportive constituency back to
religious terrorist goals. Because religiously motivated groups often seek the complete destruction
of society, these groups are less concerned with long–term popular support, (beyond basic funding
and recruitment needs.)

Strength Of Women In The Bean Trees
The strength of the female population is constantly increasing. Women are gaining the courage to be
stronger and more independent. Women are proving that they are just as strong as men, they are
becoming CEO's and running for president. Barbara Kingsolver wrote these three main supporting
characters going through difficult events, but making it through them with the strength they have as
single females. The female strength in these three women is one of the main themes in the book The
Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver.
In the book Mattie is definitely a strong character. When Taylor meets Mattie she is surprised. Back
in Pittman, where Taylor is from a woman would never own and run a tire store all by herself.

Strength is really hard to obtain with a lack of confidence. Lou Ann is upset with herself so Taylor
tries to make her feel better, "If you say one more word about being fat I'm going to stick my fingers
in my ears and sing 'Blue Bayou' until you're done" (135). Taylor is a bigger support for Lou Ann
than Angel could ever be. Even if what Taylor does isn't the most supportive, just being there for
someone is really all that's needed. When Esperanza tries to kill herself, Taylor sits with her. She
doesn't do much but just being there is enough support for Esperanza. Taylor just has to be there
with intentions to support and it would make all the difference. Support isn't just comforting by
speaking to them, but also being there to help in a time of need. Taylor takes Esperanza and Estevan
to Oklahoma, to go to the Cherokee nation. That's the most helpful and supportive thing Taylor
could do for them. One of the main personality traits from Taylor is the empowerment she gives to
others and the strength she shows
The females in The Bean Trees are so strong and that's a main theme that Barbara Kingsolver
portrays in the book. Lou Ann becomes so strong as the book progresses, she even supports Taylor
who supported her the most. Taylor and Mattie are even willing to break the law in order to support
others. Now that females are getting stronger and feminism is such an important topic, it's good to
read about strong females. It helps recognize how much females are doing especially to read
something so focused on

Social Support P4
Social Support:
Social Support means having emotional support from people that you know, such as family, close
friends and your birthing partner. They can support you using approval, praise, and
physical/psychological comfort. For example, if the client has antenatal depression, social support
from the healthcare professionals would include being referred to counselling, generally being there
to talk to and listen to and give advice, and reassure them.
Social support in general is important as health professionals like midwifes and nurses will need to
give the clients social support throughout their illness/pregnancy. This provides emotional security
to the clients and helps them know that people are there for them throughout their pregnancy, ...

Physical safety is especially important for pregnant women, as there is an unborn baby in their
womb. One way of keeping clients physically safe is after having blood taken, or injections given, to
use sterile needles, and then only use them once and dispose of them straight away. This is so the
client does not get infected; throwing the needle away will stop infection spreading and stop it from
accidentally piercing someone else's skin. Another way of keeping clients physically safe is, for
example, if the floor is wet and slippery, either dry it up or put up a 'wet floor' sign. Otherwise, a
pregnant lady could slip and injure herself or her baby. Also, an example is on higher floors, if the
antenatal ward is on a high floor, windows should only open slightly. This is so nobody can fall out
of the window and seriously injure themselves. Hygiene is also an important physical life quality
factor, because if health professionals (or clients) have poor hygiene, diseases could be spread
throughout the ward and hospital. Ways for the professionals to keep hygienic is washing and
sanitising their hands before coming into contact with the client. This stops spreading diseases
around and also stops infections going into the client if they are using needles or syringes. For the
clients to keep hygienic there are hand sanitizers in the ward for them to use. Also, on every floor

Introduction:
The Alice Saddy Caring for the Community a non–profit agency located in London, Ontario, was
established to support individuals with developmental disabilities by assisting them to live
independently rather than an in a group home. Via various programs and services offered by the
association, they provided opportunities for individual with developmental disabilities to become
active, "contributing members of the community". As a nonprofit, community–based organization,
the Alice Saddy Association is committed to promoting independence and building an inclusive
community where all individuals with disabilities can lead full and gratifying lives.

Main Issues/Challenges:
As the company continues to grow at a tremendous rate, the organizational structure became more
complicated for the managers to maintain. Additionally, the Association is unsure of how to deal
with the growth, and continue to preserve their company philosophy of "people supported first" at
the same time. When the company was small their informal way managing the support service was a
great fit, however, with more people constantly being supported, a more structural way of
overseeing the expanding support service infrastructure needed to be established.
Causes:
The association philosophy, "people supported first", forced the organizational structure to be one
that works for the benefit of the people it supports. Their structure is very informal. Every time an
individual supported needed a change or a person supported was added to the Association the whole
team would adjust so that the person supported had the best supporter for their needs.
Inability of supervisors to adequately provide for clients without putting them at risk brought on
when the number of risk clients are steadily rising
Managerial problems due to absence of successful correspondence causing communication
breakdown issues. Additionally no feedback when individuals expanded or transferred to another
support manager.

Popular Support In Julius Caesar Essay
Popular support and the distribution of power are two intertwining concepts that are prominent in
Nicolo Machiavelli's 16th century treatise, The Prince, and Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare,
of the same era. While Machiavelli's treatise served to provide a practical guide to a reigning prince
and Shakespeare's play served to entertain an Elizabethan audience, both composers examine
different perspectives of popular support and the distribution of power.
The Prince similarly suggests that popular support is essential in achieving power, but prioritises the
importance of gaining support from the citizens over the support from nobles. Machiavelli critically
analyses the advantages and disadvantageous concerning monarchy and popular support ... Show

Caesar's power is distributed amongst characters including Antony, Brutus and Octavian, and as
such, his own individual power is weakened, giving Brutus and the conspirators the opportunity to
rebel against him. Brutus' power is conveyed in Cassius' speech in Act 1 Scene 2, where he utilises
rhetorical questions including, 'Why would that name [Caesar] be sounded more than yours?' and
sarcasm by referring Caesar as 'Immortal', to undermine Caesar's authority as a ruler. However,
while Brutus and the conspirators successfully murder Caesar, Antony and Octavian emerge as the
victors at the Battle at Philippi, suggesting that ultimately Caesar's spirit and rule lives in the
noblemen who support him. The recurring supernatural imagery of Caesar's spirit in both Brutus'
tent prior to the battle in Act 4 Scene 3 and on the battlefield conveyed by Brutus in Act 5 Scene 5,
suggests that Caesar's spirit not only metaphorically perpetuates but also literally appears in front of
Brutus. The fact that the play is named after him despite his death early in the play and not after
Brutus, further enhances the idea that the distribution of power from the leader to his noblemen
allows the leader's rule to continue beyond his

Supportive Relationships Essay
Supportive Relationships
Task 1 – (P6, M3)
In this part of the assignment I will be discussing the extent to which supportive relationships with
adults can reduce the risk of abuse and neglect, making references to the case studies of Carla,
Denzil and Rafeyia, detailing how such relationships would reduce the risk of abuse for them in
particular. A supportive relationship involves the, care and support from those around you such as
friends, family and care workers. Supportive relationships affect our health and well–being in a very
positive way, having the support from people around us gives us confidence and makes us feel better
about ourselves.it also means that we build trust in people to help look after us, and when something

Due to the fact Dave sees Denzil every day it also means that he would be able to notice quite easily
any changes in his behaviour, such early detection minimises any chance or risk of exploitation; it
also means that Denzil knows he is being watched supportively which spurs him on to avoid risks of
abuse that may come his way. He feels empowered that the hostel worker would notice and be there
to help if temptation did make an appearance. Care work has to be based on person centred care, this
means putting the service user at the heart of all decisions and care. What choices are made has to be
based upon what is believed to be best for them, as well as taking in to account what they want from
you, this is where their individual rights need to be respected.by taking in to account the rights of
other people and respecting them it minimises the risk of abuse taking place in the first place. In the
case study, it tells of Rafeyia, a 30 year old girl with learning disabilities. She attends a day centre
and her support worker noticed shed become quite withdrawn, suspecting a male individual has
been bothering he. Because of the supportive relationship Clare (her support worker,) has with
Rafeyia, she is going to have a chat with her. In this case it is clear that within the boundaries of
their relationship, they have managed to build up a high and secure level of trust between them. It is
this trust that makes Clare believe Rafeyia will

Unit 525 Inter Professional Working Essay
1.Understand the principles of inter–professional working within health and social care or children
and young people's setting.
1.1 Analyse how inter–professional working promotes positive outcomes for individuals.
Inter professional working is formed from different health and social care professionals working
together towards a common goal to meet the needs of a service user. It is about developing
relationships within and between organisations and services involved in planning and delivering
care and support to the service users we support. By working collaboratively it brings together
different types of professionals to share their particular knowledge, experience, skills, occupational
values and perspectives to improve service ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Good working relationships are built over time, this creates trust, respect and smooth running of the
service. This is apparent at reviews and other meetings when everyone involved with an individual
will be brought up to date with any progress or issues. Then any decisions or agreements can be
made because everyone involved has an opportunity to voice their opinions/concerns. This leads to a
positive outcomes supported by all involved. If there have been previous agreed actions not carried
out then this environment makes it easier to remind others of the things that need completing. Also if
others are having difficulties in fulfilling their agreements then they will find it easier to ask for
help. Respect for each other should be maintained, remembering that we are all working for the best
possible outcome for the individual.
There is a need to monitor and review working relationships, if conflict or lack of communication is
a problem there is a need to establish a reason for this and look for a resolution acceptable to all
parties and identify areas for improvement. One way to maintain a good working relationship is to
have regular contact not only verbal but face to face contact through meetings at least monthly, this
provides opportunity to discuss any concerns or maybe just have a chat about things in general, also
keep in touch via email and telephone. It can create problems if the only contact they have is when
there are problems as this may give

Significant Relationships In Pat's Life
Significant Relationship An important aspect of life is being able to establish a strong network of
support through the development of significant relationships. A network of support can be anyone
from a friend, to a family member, or even a colleague (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2017). The network of
support is those who ultimately help guide an individual during the good and bad moments in life.
Two significant relationships in Pat's life are with his father Patrick Solitano Sr. and with a recently
gained friend, Tiffany Maxwell.

with establishing relationships and regulating emotions. Although Tiffany has her own challenges,
she still tries to pull it together to help support Pat. One way she tries to help is by opening up about
her past. By doing this Tiffany is revealing some shameful secrets, but her vulnerability allows a
strong connection to start to form. Another way she tries to help Pat is by stalking him during his
running routine. While it might be a bit peculiar for her to stalk his runs, she is just trying to
motivate and join him. Another way she tries to help support Pat is by forcing him to dance with her
in an upcoming competition. Once again forcing him to dance might seem like an odd form of
support, but it truly got Pat out of his comfort zone and allowed him to view himself in a light
without his ex–wife. The support Tiffany is showing to Pat has a strong influence on the decisions

Slacktivism : The Causes Of Social Media
How do we show we support a topic nowadays? Through social media right? Millions of users on
Facebook, Youtube, Twitter and Instagram all are outlets for supporting causes. But is this a good or
bad thing? Clicking like or share so people see you support it does something, right? Wrong. These
people are "slacktivists". Slacktivism is defined simply as doing something to show you support a
cause without having to simply "act on it". I do not support "slacktivism" but this argument is
controversial.
"Slacktivism" can be the first step to acknowledging a cause. Social media has been described by in
"someones essay" "as the government's soft weapon". This basically states that social media is the
basis of how people access information on a certain topic. The internet is literally like an open book.
You can access information everywhere. But this is where the problem arises. Does simply viewing
and sharing, or re–tweeting a tweet really do something? Surely there have been tons of successful
online campaigns to solve issues. For example, in Pfeifle's essay, "Changing the face(book) of
Social Activism", the brutal Ugandan guerilla leader was an issue in Africa. How did people know
about this? The answer is YouTube. What resulted from that was the deployment of 100 U.S
advisors and 5,00 African Union troops. Social media only solves the issue of awareness.
"Slacktivism" is a disease. It spreads like a wildfire among many Americans and other people
around the world. Online image is

Compression Stockings Benefits Edema
Compression Stockings Edema
Overview
Edema is the abnormal accumulation of fluid under the skin, which most commonly effects the
lower legs, ankles, and feet. Compression stockings are used to help improve blood flow that is

including, but not limited to, varicose veins, sports injuries, standing or sitting for prolonged time
periods, pregnancy, or surgery.

The Study Of Popular Culture
The study of popular culture is useful in many ways. To specify, this course has reached its three
intended main ideas: what it means to be an American, how to be consumption–conscious, and how
to apply these studies in our own lives. Jim Cullen puts this in a less specific sense, arguing that the
study of popular culture can "afford valuable clues – about collective fears, hopes, and debates"
(Cullen, The Art of Democracy, 2). We study these clues to understand the world around us, as well
as why we do what we do as Americans and as humans. I will be touching on themes that relate to
this quotation by Cullen, escapism, exploitation, and globalization, and how these themes relate to
the course goals.

These illustrated novels gained popularity during World War II. Comic book writers would
incorporate real–world concerns into their work, proposing ideas of how a post–World War America
should function. For example, in one story, Superman crushes "a plot by wealthy American
financiers working for a foreign power to manipulate the stock exchange and plunge the nation into
another depression" (Comic Book Nation, 12). In this case, the writers are appealing to a worried
nation that jumps into a story where superheroes put greedy corporations to rest, and the nation is
stable. Escapism also manifested itself in the 'Beatlemania' craze. "In a highly sexualized society ...
teen and preteen girls were expected to be not only 'good' and 'pure' but to be the enforcers of purity
within their teen society ... To abandon control – to scream, faint, dash about in mobs – was, in form
if not in conscious intent, to protest the sexual repressiveness, the rigid double standard of female
teen culture. It was the first and most dramatic uprising of women's sexual revolution"
(Beatlemania, 85). Young girls are seeking an escape from a critical society that expects them to be
pure and perfect, when in reality, that is too much of a standard for a teenager to uphold. Some
psychologists at the time of the craze even believed that girls

Characteristics Of A Friend Who Falls Under All Of These...
We all have friendships with everyone. To some people, they have deep friendships while others just
use and abuse their friends. We shouldn't abuse our friends, we should care for our friends. They're
all important! Friends can provide support, comfort, and help and even have fun with each other.
When I look for friends, I make sure that they possess many qualities. Some traits I look for in a
friend is that they're kind, honest, trustworthy and accepting of my unique ideas. I have many people
that fall under this category, but for this essay, I have decided to write about one who stands out. Her
name is Aria.
Aria is a friend who falls under all of these qualities. She's kind, trustworthy and provides support
and comfort. Aria and I have a deep friendship.
Aria is a kind person. She cares for each and every one of her friends. An example is when she
provides food for me and others. I remember in kindergarten when she brought me a slice of pizza
for lunch. More specifically, a tomato–basil slice of pizza. Anyways, I remember feeling strange and
weird as this had never happened to me. Before this, I had never gotten food, or any item, from
anyone. It was a new experience. Another example is that Aria puts her peers before herself. A
couple weeks ago, we were playing Volleyball. Aria would set up her peers for spikes, a move that is
hard to accomplish in this sport. Usually, people only care about themselves, and only ask people to
set them up. Aria could easily become one of

My Love Of Family
American journalist Charles Kuralt said, "The love of family and the admiration of friends is much
more important than wealth and privilege." What he is saying is that even if you have many

family is very supportive of me. They always encourage me to do what makes me happy, and what I
think is right. Even if we sometimes disagree, I know that I will always have them for guidance. I
also have support and love from my friends, who are always there for me. I know that when I go

It can also be good to have a friend with you when you start doing something new, so you will not
be completely on your own. However, if you do start on your own, it can be a good opportunity to

dance (although I do not do those anymore), as well as activities I still take part in, like drama club.
I have made many friends through drama club, and most of them are in different grades, so I do not
think I would have gotten that opportunity if I had never done drama club.
A big part of my identity and what has shaped me into who I am is musical theatre and Broadway.

Examples Of Non Traditional Families In The Bean Trees

Non–Traditional Families in
The Bean Trees
Families come in many forms, and family may not be considered "traditional" can still have a deep–
seated relationship, much of the time more so than "traditional" families. Barbara Kingsolver's novel
The Bean Trees makes non–traditional families very prevalent, showing their supportive and
functional nature. A traditional family is a family that has a mother, father, and children, whereas a
non–traditional family varies from that set. Barbara shows the reader that non–traditional families
can function and support the members of the family just as well, if not better than traditional
families. Alice and Taylor have a tight–knit and close relationship, one that is supportive at its
nature. Alice has supported Taylor is so many ways throughout her lifetime. On page 2, we are told
that When Taylor was a young child, she would catch small fish, and Alice would act like it was
huge, and cook them up for dinner. This is a great example of how they support each other. Without
anyone else, Alice is boosting Taylor's self–confidence, and supporting her, arguably better than
traditional families, like all mothers should. They function like most families, even though all they
have is each other. On page 5, Alice consoles Taylor on techniques for getting the job at the hospital.

The Danger Of A Single Story Analysis
Popular culture is often a reflection of society; both literature and the media have the capacity to
cement ideas in the minds of readers and viewers. In many cases, the notions and stories glorified by
the media refrain from sharing a true depiction of society and are narrow–minded in their focus.
Recently, the feminist movement has denounced popular culture for its ignorance, fighting for a
more realistic portrait to be painted by those with the power to reach millions. Specifically, both
Roxane Gay's Bad Feminist and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's "The Danger of a Single Story" share
how the classic gender stereotypes seen in popular culture are unable to capture the full spectrum of
stories that define society, and are limiting in their portrayals of women. Moreover, both authors
share personal stories, reference prominent world figures, and cite relevant statistics in their works.
Therefore, in both Bad Feminist and "The Danger of a Single Story", Roxane Gay and Chimamanda
Ngozi Adichie appeal to readers pathos, logos, and ethos in order to construct the argument that the
single story of women in popular culture is stereotypical and restrictive. Within her collection of
essays, Roxane Gay uses personal anecdotes that appeal to reader's pathos, constructing her
argument that women are misrepresented and generalized in popular culture by providing an
emotional tether upon which readers can latch on. For example, Gay writes of her experiences as a
struggling adolescent

Rhetorical Analysis Of ' Here 's Why Suspensions Won Not...
Rhetorical Strategies in "Here 's Why Suspensions Won 't Deter PED Users Like Maria Sharapova"
The use of PED (performance–enhancing drugs) is always a popular topic especially since the
Olympic game passed by. Author Zach Petersel's article: Here 's Why Suspensions Won 't Deter
PED Users Like Maria Sharapova claims that punishment for taking PED is incremental, while the
benefits are exponential. After carefully reading the article, I think the article would be great to be
printed in the Shorthorn of the University of Arlington. First of all, Zach made a clear and strong
claim. He also builds his credibility by using one of the most famous cases that happened on the
famous athletics to make the article, and he addresses an issue that lots of the college student will be

In the article, the author, Zach claims that suspensions will not deter PED users like Maria
Sharapova. Zach reasons that although the highest–paid female athlete Sharapova received a
suspension of about a year because of her use of PED, she still owns some sponsorships and aids,
and her net worth is about $125 million a year. Sharapova' reputation might be untarnished because
of her play to the public. Zach states that the behaviors like Sharapova's will cause a negative effect
to the society and we need to find a way to solve this problem. The article would be great to many of
the readers and highly recommend it to be published in the Shorthorn because first of all, this article

may protect against the potential of stressful events to elicit psychological distress, depression, and
anxiety. Cohen asserted that possible explanation for the buffering effect of being hugged is that
hugs might be exchanged between individuals involved in a situation involving tension and conflict
either as a means of resolving that conflict or as a counter to associated emotional aftereffects (138).
Cohen summarized that these findings suggest that people who regularly receive hugs are more
protected than those who do not (144). Several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In terms of cognitive mechanisms loneliness in people is affiliated with higher tonic vascular
resistance, blood pressure and hypothalamic pituitary adrenocortical (HPA) activation, and lower
inflammatory control, immunity, and sleep salubrity. The causal role of loneliness on neural
mechanisms is difficult to test conclusively in humans, so animal studies to evaluate the causal
effects of being a member of a social species living chronically on the social perimeter, deprived of

size of the primary visual cortex, and low NGF and weight of the visual cortex; and low cell

Child Support: A Case Study
The United States Census in 2013 showed that 45% of custodial parents are receiving full payment,
28% partial payment, and 25% of no payment out of about million custodial parents with child
support. The three most popular reasons for legally not paying child support include child(ren) were
too old, a noncustodial parent had died, or that the family lived together for part of the previous
year. Custodial parents that paid the full child support, 62% had at least a bachelor's degree, 58%

Answer: Yes, although it depends on the other things the noncustodial parent may be contributing.
One of my children's fathers contributes health insurance through his job, which is a huge benefit to
the son and daughter we share. Sometimes money isn't enough by itself.
Question: Do you feel that current penalties for not paying child support are fair? Answer:
Absolutely not. The penalties don't seem to be logical, and may make the situation worse in some
circumstances. There is one law which will revoke driving privileges for the noncustodial parent
once they far enough behind. This doesn't makes any sense. They can't drive to work, which means
they can't earn money, which means they can't pay their child support. The law makes absolutely no
sense.
Question: What penalties would you like to see instead? Answer: Garnishing wages, or deducting
their support that they owe from their welfare.
During the interview, the South Dakotan mother also added that even though she is raising her

Supportive Family Goals
Having a supportive family is the most important thing that you can have when you are trying to
achieve goals. Without the supporting family, it will be likely that you won't or can't achieve the
goals. Many things can help/hinder your progress in achieving these goals such as financial status,
social class, levels of education, or even family tradition. Though these things do affect the progress
towards these goals, I know that it is still possible to achieve these goals. Race and certain
neighborhoods did hinder a lot of people from achieving success, but my mom grew up in a very
affluent neighborhood where she saw very successful people which led her to believe that success
was easy to obtain. Growing up, my mom had a mom and a dad present in her household, that each
had a job, were very supportive and only wanted success for their daughter. At that time, the
neighborhood they were in was average which allowed her to see how to be successful and make her
strive to be successful. Her parents wouldn't accept anything less than 110% and expected her to be
successful. Living in a nicer neighborhood and having a supportive family made it easier for her to
continue striving for success. My mom's family was middle class and was ineligible for many of the
financial assistance programs, so all of the schooling or programs she took part in she had to work to
put herself through. Being with a successful family, this made her journey to becoming successful
much easier financially.

Relational Turbulence Model Essay
Social support is one of the key tenants in anyone's life. Social support proves to be more important
for those who are dealing with mental health issues such as depression. The relational turbulence
model is very important in understanding how the relationship between those with depression and
their families. The relationship turbulence model Knobloch and Delaney (2012) implies that the
model shows how people with depressive symptoms should handle relational uncertainty and
interference from their partners. Relational uncertainty can be defined as how unsure people are
with the status of their relationship with someone (Knobloch and Delaney 2012). It is important to
understand this model in order to comprehend how those with depression are affected by the people
around them. In this paper I will be researching in what ways do relational uncertainty and
emotional support affect younger and older populations with depression. It is important to
understand the difference between age cohorts in terms of dealing with their depression.
According to Stahl et al. (2017) a substantial amount of older adults live on their own, in 2010 it

A. Chief Keef (real name Keith Cozart) is largely known as a rapper from the South Side of Chicago
who brought awareness through his music about the violence and murder going on in Chicago.
Many debate whether this awareness has increased or decreased the violence, and personally I
believe it's a mixture of both. In his well–known hit "I Don't Like" he insults the police, women, and

The music industry has a huge effect on popular culture and people of today. Rappers especially can
tell a story through their music, which is what Keith Cozart (Chief Keef) was hoping to bring
awareness to with his rapping about Chicago. Since his career has progressed many younger
generations have been informed of the violence and crime occurring there, and his most recent
music talks about the dangers of it and the need for change. For older audiences, Spike Lee also
brought awareness to the issue in his movie Chi–Raq, a movie about a girlfriend of a Chicago gang–
leader who persuades other frustrated women to abstain from sex until their men agree to end the
senseless cycle of violence. Most people today spend more time focusing on popular culture than
they do on worldly issues, so it is important to make music, television, and cinema a platform for
important information. Just as Walter Benjamin predicted, popular culture has become a
"democratizing agent of society". The products produced in popular culture have a major influence
in showing us how we should think, feel, and act. Younger audiences are more influenced by Chief
Keef considering that his music is considered "low art form". The lyrics he writes and has younger
audiences listen too certainly draws attention to older audiences for its negative messages and
meaning. In the crisis of Chicago, any attention is good attention. There's still so much work to do in
order to get Chicago's homicide and crime rates down. If a wider audience is turning in, hopefully
more action will be taken before thousands of other men die from senseless

Maggie's Case Study
When evaluating Maggie's situation, it is important to analyse social support networks in the matter
of community connectedness as a protective factor of her health. Many epidemiologists corroborate
that a healthy social network relates to positive health, such as reduced rates of depression.
(Thompson, Teresa. 2014) Social support can be delivered by family, friends, teachers, social groups
and many more. Social support aims to educate through advice, information and resources for a
common goal to improve health.
Maggie's story outlines her struggles; giving birth to her Step–Father's child at 15 years of age,
resulting in her abandonment by her family, then later experiencing physical and emotional abuse in

Later in Maggie's story, she marries a man who is controlling over her social life (forces her to stay
at home rather than work). His urge for dominance eventually leads to a physical assault with
Maggie. It is obvious that this relationship is not emotionally, mentally or physically healthy for
Maggie and her two young children. It is obvious that healthy social relationships have positive
effects on physical and mental health. (Berklan, L & Glass, T & Brisette, I. 2000) For the duration of
their relationship, Maggie records her social circle consisting of her family only. This is not
acceptable as two young children are not experienced enough to be giving Maggie social support,
neither is her abusive husband. Social support groups may have encouraged Maggie to leave her
husband, providing her with temporary accommodation or even legal advice regarding a divorce or
a restraining order. This advice can stem from social support groups such as mothers groups,
community support groups and even work colleagues. A study of 60 women revealed that lack of
institutional and informal social support were related to low self–esteem and severe depressive
symptoms. Upon further analysis, this study suggested violence related stress may have indirect
effects on social support. (Re, M. 1983) It is also important to note Maggie's restricted social circle,
absence of social relationships and dearth of affection in her marriage may have caused her to
experience loneliness. A study on the relationship loneliness has on physical health discloses
loneliness is experienced by 80% of people below 18 years of age with a common risk factor of
being female and substandard social sources. Inherently, the study summarised lonely people are

Feminism And Mad Max : Fury Road
Feminism and Mad Max: Fury Road
George Miller's action packed film Mad Max: Fury Road, shines a new light on the role of women
in contemporary culture. Mad Max takes place in what is called the "The Citadel", a post
apocalyptic wasteland, where an infamous tyrant by the name of Immortan Joe rules all women and
war boys as servants. As the fourth installment in the Mad Max trilogy and an honorable rating of
8.1/10 (Imbd.com), what really makes the film one of a kind is that the movie, usually lead by the
vengeful male protagonist, Max Rockatansky, is actually centered on a female cast this time around.
By centering the film around a female cast, it alone challenges the views of feminism in popular
culture because it portrays women in successful leadership roles, otherwise given to men in a
notable action film and popular media. Miller provides the film with the reoccurring role of Max
Rockatansky but this time focuses on a new strong and willing female cast, led by a determined
Imperator Furiosa who is played by the talented Charlize Theron. In the film, Furiosa and the fives
wives are obligated to serve Immortan Joe as slaves and breeders, so the five wives put their lives on
the line and with the assistance of the Vulvani, challenge male authority in hope of winning back
their freedom. By closely examining feminist ideologies and the actions of the female heroines in
the film, the audience can determine the feminist tendencies and message Fury Road is sending

Essay On Teenage Moms
Being a mom is hard, and being a teenage mom is even harder. Most teen moms will drop out and
not continue further with their careers. "By age 30, only 1.5 percent of women who had pregnancies
as a teenager have a college degree"("Teen Pregnancy Statistics"). Nowadays, schools like Santa
Ana College can help these young mothers attain a profession and raise their kids at the same time.
Now thanks to colleges like SAC, that percentage can increase, and young mothers can strive to
better themselves. Giving them support is essential because it will give them a place where they feel
secure and supported; it will help them realize that it's never too late. In our postcard for Santa Ana
College, we use the strategy of support to attract teen moms.
We use three colors to show support for teen moms in college. The first color we picked is pink.
This color is used as the background of the postcard. We used pink as our background because it is a
color that signifies the huge amount of support mainly for women. For example, the color pink
represents support for women struggling with breast cancer. Pink is a sign of hope. It's a positive
color giving a sense that everything will be okay. We also picked pink because pink is known to be a
very feminine color. Ever since birth, girls are usually adorned in pink. Another color we used was
white. It is used in the lettering of the school, which is "Santa Ana College". These teen moms
attending SAC are entering into a new chapter of their

Social Support-Giving Communication
A communication approach to the study of social support views it as an interactive process
involving support–seeking behavior, the giving of support, and a response to support by the receiver
(Barbee, 1990; Burleson et al., 1994; House, 1981). Support–giving communication includes "any
behaviors with altruistic intent directed toward another individual" (Dunkel–Schetter, Blasband,
Feinstein, & Herbert, 1992, p. 90), such as providing advice or comfort. Those who receive effective
social support may experience benefits such as feelings of well–being, a sense of being accepted and
understood, and an improved ability to control and cope with stressful events (Burleson, 1994).
Many types of social support have been examined in the literature.

My Reflective Web Media Creation
My Reflective Web Media Creation (RWMC) project was nearly exactly as I envisioned it in the

lawyer. However, I changed it in the final video making him the plaintiff, a company lawyer saying
the defendant ('Punisher') stole their content and he is not protected by 'Fair Dealing'. I changed it to
this as I believed it would make the video more narratively engaging, making the 'Punishers'
outburst more provoked and meaningful. I also removed the self–referential element where the
'Punisher' was going to comment on how the video was flipped and colour graded so it would not
come up on 'YouTube' copyright detection system. I changed this element as I believed it would
make my RWMC more focused and comedic in a serious way. The elements I changed after I
presented my RWMC piece were both things the markers and classmates commented on. They said
some of the subtitles in the first half went by too fast, so they struggled to read everything being said
before the subtitle changed. To remedy this I changed the subtitles from the first half of the video to
make it more concise and easier to read, removing words and rewording/rephrasing the subtitles. I
did this as it was the main criticism that both my classmates and markers told me. I also fixed the

Reflection Essay #2: The Bechdel Test
Bechdel test is used to test that, first, whether there are two or more women have names in a same
movie, second, whether they talk to each other, and third, whether they talk to each other about
something other than a man. When the first time that Bechdel test was moved into mainstream
criticism, this test was described as "the standard by which feminist critics judge television, movies,
books, and other media" (Steiger). People like to use this test to evaluate a movie for a particular
purpose; if a movie passes this test, people may say that this movie is woman–friendly, and consists
of diversity. Although many movies did not pass this test, people would not criticize those movie as
sexism (Romano).
However, even though a movie or other media that does not pass this test would not be criticized as
sexism, such failure still proves the women characters' relatively weak position in that movie or
other media. In addition, many other explanations of failure to pass the ... Show more content on

The Importance Of Beauty In Popular Culture
Question? How do you define yourself as an individual? Through your style, through your mind,
through the way that you curl your tongue or even toes? We all have a unique way about who we are
and how we carry about ourselves, and it can't simply be defined through the manikins that you see
in stores or with the false reality that many media corporations have shown to their audience through
poster ads, TV commercial, and products they sell, sets a barrier between the reality and fantasy of
beauty standards. Sadly, with programs like Photoshop and SkinneePix, the media helps create the
illusion that corporations want their audience to see. These television, magazines, newspapers, and
billboard advertisements that different corporations create, are not the only thing that influences
standards of beauty in popular culture. But, when shopping online, many companies only put the
products that they want to sell and give the consumers the freedom and the right to choose whatever
product that they want without the judgment others and/or an advertisement, which is why buying
online is personally called my safe place!
Popular culture places a large amount of emphasis on the "ideal model look." Which consist of a
slender build, perfect hair style, a certain style of makeup, and always dressed in the latest style of
fashion. These images are captured and are published in many different magazines such as Vogue,

Three Perspectives On Social Support
There are various social support approaches from which to draw from, for the purpose of this paper,
I will adopt and briefly introduce the "three social support perspectives on social support research"
outlined by Lakey and Cohen (Cohen, Underwood & Gottlieb, 2000, p. 29). The three perspectives
on social support are the (a) stress and coping perspective, (b) the social constructionist perspective
and (b) the relationship perspective (Lakey & Cohen, 2000). The first perspective suggests that
social support acts as a buffer for the effect of stress (Cohen, Underwood & Gottlieb, 2000). The
second proposes that our health is influenced by confidence in oneself, which is a consequent of
social support (Cohen, Underwood & Gottlieb, 2000). The third perspective however focuses on the
foundations of relationships built within social support systems and how the relationships are also
considered to have an effect on health (Cohen, Underwood & Gottlieb, 2000). ... Show more content

Analysis Of White And The New Yorker
Furthermore, In Warshow's review of E.B White and the New Yorker, experience again is at the
forefront of his critique, along with a bit of his ever present political views. He makes a very
important point at the begging of this review, "The New Yorker has always dealt with experience not
by trying to understand it but by prescribing the attitude to be adopted toward it." (warshow 2001,
75) This becomes an interesting argument, even today, as we think about what trends we have seen
in popular culture. Do we ever ask ourselves if this is something that has been prescribed to us,
instead of by us? Journalism, especially from writers of a certain stature, can often dictate where the
culture shifts. If we are able to look at the writing with an objective eye then we are simply learning
about another facet of the experience. All to often, though, it is hard for us to be objective. This
could be why we, as Americans, have popular culture at all. A journalist tells us what is cool, and we
subscribe to that idea as an entire culture. There are always outliers, but when talking about popular
culture most Americans are in it for the collective effervesces. I think this point would be highly
debated by Warshow. As he says at the end of this review, unable to keep his political feelings at
bay, "The purpose of this writing is not to say anything about democracy ...but only to arouse certain
familiar responses in the liberal middle–class reader." (warshow 2001,78) Moving forward in the

Description Of A Literature Search
Planning
To achieve the above aims, a literature search was done to check to see if there is any innovation
similar to this. My findings shows that there were some spoons that were designed like the one the
service user was using, but there was none that had a link strap at the base of the spoon that the
service users could use. I came up with the idea of linking the strap to the base of the spoon in a way
that the service users could use the spoon, and at the same time drop the spoon when he wants to
without the spoon falling on the floor.
The advantage of this is that the service user could take back the spoon without any support because
the spoon is still within reach; therefore, the service user could continue eating with any
interruption. This promotes the service user's independence, inclusion and dignity. This was
reinforced by the (DH, 2009) three year strategy Valuing People Now. In addition, the strap is
available in different colours; therefore, the service user has the opportunity of choosing their
favourite colour. This idea promotes the service user's involvement in their care and choices (DH,
2009).
Figure 2 and 3 (below) shows the diagram of the spoon and the strap. The price of the spoon on
Amazon at the time of writing this essay was £3.54, and the strap cost £2.50. Ryrie and Anderson
(2011) argue that nurses need to know how to do an economic assessment of their innovation in this

Pop Culture in 1960's and 1990's Essay
Pop Culture in 1960's and 1990's
In comparing the sixties and the nineties, my first thought was how much popular culture has
changed since then and how different society is today. The strange thing is, the more I tried to
differentiate between them, the more similarities I found. Both the sixties and the nineties were
about youth, creativity, free–thinking, and expression. With the nineties coming to a close and the
popularity of anything ?retro," I decided to compare the fashions, people, music, and issues that
defined pop culture in the 1960?s and its influence on pop culture in the 1990?s.
In the 1960?s, society was changing by the minute and fashion was ?anything goes?. In the early
sixties, Jackie Kennedy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As fashion in the 60?s influenced fashion in the 90?s, the spirit of music in the 60?s is present in the
music of the 90?s. Many of the artists popular in the sixties are still major forces in music today.
There is no one genre of music that can define either decade. After the appearance of the Beatles and
the British invasion in the early sixties, music changed and everything before it was all but swept
away. There was surf music from the Beach Boys; folk music from Bob Dylan; R&B influenced
music from Motown and the Rolling Stones; and psychedelic music from Jefferson Airplane and the
Doors. In the nineties, many new types of music evolved. These include rap music and hip–hop
which came from urban dissatisfaction and unrest, while underground alternative rock became
mainstream. In 1969, the Woodstock music festival embodied the spirit of peace and love. It was
repeated in 1994 and 1999, but unfortunately, the festival in 1999 ended in violence, marring the
essence of the original Woodstock.
Racial tensions, civil rights disturbances, and deeply divided opinions over the American presence
in the Vietnam war, all served to give the sixties a radical edge. People were passionate about what
they believed in and were willing to give their lives, if necessary, to the cause. Young people became
increasingly opposed to the Vietnam war and had a tendency to express their opinions more

The Issue Of Popular Support

  • 1. The Issue Of Popular Support The issue of popular support is further connected to terrorist group's specific objectives, or goals. In general, terrorists motivated by a religious component are often associated with 'apocalyptic' like goals. Hoffman notes that these 'apocalyptic' goals, are in nature more violent when compared to the often more tangible political based goals of many secular groups. The association between religiously motivated terrorist groups and apocalyptic like goals is well known throughout academia. Jessica Stern's book, Terror in the Name of God further references this connection. She is particularly careful not to equate these general end–of–time beliefs to one religion in particular. Instead she notes how such beliefs often span across multiple religions by noting their presence in various sacred texts across all three of the major Abrahamic faiths. She further ties back to Hoffman's work when discussing how apocalyptic like goals often allow for more violence and destruction when compared to other terrorist objectives (such as forming a new government, or expelling a foreign nation from perceived territory). While Hoffman notes the specific constituency that secular terrorists must appeal to, Stern ties the lack of a needed supportive constituency back to religious terrorist goals. Because religiously motivated groups often seek the complete destruction of society, these groups are less concerned with long–term popular support, (beyond basic funding and recruitment needs.) ... • 3. Strength Of Women In The Bean Trees The strength of the female population is constantly increasing. Women are gaining the courage to be stronger and more independent. Women are proving that they are just as strong as men, they are becoming CEO's and running for president. Barbara Kingsolver wrote these three main supporting characters going through difficult events, but making it through them with the strength they have as single females. The female strength in these three women is one of the main themes in the book The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver. In the book Mattie is definitely a strong character. When Taylor meets Mattie she is surprised. Back in Pittman, where Taylor is from a woman would never own and run a tire store all by herself. Mattie may not be gaining much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Strength is really hard to obtain with a lack of confidence. Lou Ann is upset with herself so Taylor tries to make her feel better, "If you say one more word about being fat I'm going to stick my fingers in my ears and sing 'Blue Bayou' until you're done" (135). Taylor is a bigger support for Lou Ann than Angel could ever be. Even if what Taylor does isn't the most supportive, just being there for someone is really all that's needed. When Esperanza tries to kill herself, Taylor sits with her. She doesn't do much but just being there is enough support for Esperanza. Taylor just has to be there with intentions to support and it would make all the difference. Support isn't just comforting by speaking to them, but also being there to help in a time of need. Taylor takes Esperanza and Estevan to Oklahoma, to go to the Cherokee nation. That's the most helpful and supportive thing Taylor could do for them. One of the main personality traits from Taylor is the empowerment she gives to others and the strength she shows The females in The Bean Trees are so strong and that's a main theme that Barbara Kingsolver portrays in the book. Lou Ann becomes so strong as the book progresses, she even supports Taylor who supported her the most. Taylor and Mattie are even willing to break the law in order to support others. Now that females are getting stronger and feminism is such an important topic, it's good to read about strong females. It helps recognize how much females are doing especially to read something so focused on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Social Support P4 Social Support: Social Support means having emotional support from people that you know, such as family, close friends and your birthing partner. They can support you using approval, praise, and physical/psychological comfort. For example, if the client has antenatal depression, social support from the healthcare professionals would include being referred to counselling, generally being there to talk to and listen to and give advice, and reassure them. Social support in general is important as health professionals like midwifes and nurses will need to give the clients social support throughout their illness/pregnancy. This provides emotional security to the clients and helps them know that people are there for them throughout their pregnancy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Physical safety is especially important for pregnant women, as there is an unborn baby in their womb. One way of keeping clients physically safe is after having blood taken, or injections given, to use sterile needles, and then only use them once and dispose of them straight away. This is so the client does not get infected; throwing the needle away will stop infection spreading and stop it from accidentally piercing someone else's skin. Another way of keeping clients physically safe is, for example, if the floor is wet and slippery, either dry it up or put up a 'wet floor' sign. Otherwise, a pregnant lady could slip and injure herself or her baby. Also, an example is on higher floors, if the antenatal ward is on a high floor, windows should only open slightly. This is so nobody can fall out of the window and seriously injure themselves. Hygiene is also an important physical life quality factor, because if health professionals (or clients) have poor hygiene, diseases could be spread throughout the ward and hospital. Ways for the professionals to keep hygienic is washing and sanitising their hands before coming into contact with the client. This stops spreading diseases around and also stops infections going into the client if they are using needles or syringes. For the clients to keep hygienic there are hand sanitizers in the ward for them to use. Also, on every floor there are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alice Saddy : Caring For The Community Alice Saddy: Caring For the Community Case Study Darryn Sydnor Introduction: The Alice Saddy Caring for the Community a non–profit agency located in London, Ontario, was established to support individuals with developmental disabilities by assisting them to live independently rather than an in a group home. Via various programs and services offered by the association, they provided opportunities for individual with developmental disabilities to become active, "contributing members of the community". As a nonprofit, community–based organization, the Alice Saddy Association is committed to promoting independence and building an inclusive community where all individuals with disabilities can lead full and gratifying lives. Main Issues/Challenges: As the company continues to grow at a tremendous rate, the organizational structure became more complicated for the managers to maintain. Additionally, the Association is unsure of how to deal with the growth, and continue to preserve their company philosophy of "people supported first" at the same time. When the company was small their informal way managing the support service was a great fit, however, with more people constantly being supported, a more structural way of overseeing the expanding support service infrastructure needed to be established. Causes: The association philosophy, "people supported first", forced the organizational structure to be one that works for the benefit of the people it supports. Their structure is very informal. Every time an individual supported needed a change or a person supported was added to the Association the whole team would adjust so that the person supported had the best supporter for their needs. Inability of supervisors to adequately provide for clients without putting them at risk brought on when the number of risk clients are steadily rising Managerial problems due to absence of successful correspondence causing communication breakdown issues. Additionally no feedback when individuals expanded or transferred to another support manager. Working with high–needs individuals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Popular Support In Julius Caesar Essay Popular support and the distribution of power are two intertwining concepts that are prominent in Nicolo Machiavelli's 16th century treatise, The Prince, and Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, of the same era. While Machiavelli's treatise served to provide a practical guide to a reigning prince and Shakespeare's play served to entertain an Elizabethan audience, both composers examine different perspectives of popular support and the distribution of power. The Prince similarly suggests that popular support is essential in achieving power, but prioritises the importance of gaining support from the citizens over the support from nobles. Machiavelli critically analyses the advantages and disadvantageous concerning monarchy and popular support ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Caesar's power is distributed amongst characters including Antony, Brutus and Octavian, and as such, his own individual power is weakened, giving Brutus and the conspirators the opportunity to rebel against him. Brutus' power is conveyed in Cassius' speech in Act 1 Scene 2, where he utilises rhetorical questions including, 'Why would that name [Caesar] be sounded more than yours?' and sarcasm by referring Caesar as 'Immortal', to undermine Caesar's authority as a ruler. However, while Brutus and the conspirators successfully murder Caesar, Antony and Octavian emerge as the victors at the Battle at Philippi, suggesting that ultimately Caesar's spirit and rule lives in the noblemen who support him. The recurring supernatural imagery of Caesar's spirit in both Brutus' tent prior to the battle in Act 4 Scene 3 and on the battlefield conveyed by Brutus in Act 5 Scene 5, suggests that Caesar's spirit not only metaphorically perpetuates but also literally appears in front of Brutus. The fact that the play is named after him despite his death early in the play and not after Brutus, further enhances the idea that the distribution of power from the leader to his noblemen allows the leader's rule to continue beyond his ... • 11. Supportive Relationships Essay Supportive Relationships Task 1 – (P6, M3) In this part of the assignment I will be discussing the extent to which supportive relationships with adults can reduce the risk of abuse and neglect, making references to the case studies of Carla, Denzil and Rafeyia, detailing how such relationships would reduce the risk of abuse for them in particular. A supportive relationship involves the, care and support from those around you such as friends, family and care workers. Supportive relationships affect our health and well–being in a very positive way, having the support from people around us gives us confidence and makes us feel better about ourselves.it also means that we build trust in people to help look after us, and when something goes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the fact Dave sees Denzil every day it also means that he would be able to notice quite easily any changes in his behaviour, such early detection minimises any chance or risk of exploitation; it also means that Denzil knows he is being watched supportively which spurs him on to avoid risks of abuse that may come his way. He feels empowered that the hostel worker would notice and be there to help if temptation did make an appearance. Care work has to be based on person centred care, this means putting the service user at the heart of all decisions and care. What choices are made has to be based upon what is believed to be best for them, as well as taking in to account what they want from you, this is where their individual rights need to be respected.by taking in to account the rights of other people and respecting them it minimises the risk of abuse taking place in the first place. In the case study, it tells of Rafeyia, a 30 year old girl with learning disabilities. She attends a day centre and her support worker noticed shed become quite withdrawn, suspecting a male individual has been bothering he. Because of the supportive relationship Clare (her support worker,) has with Rafeyia, she is going to have a chat with her. In this case it is clear that within the boundaries of their relationship, they have managed to build up a high and secure level of trust between them. • 13. Unit 525 Inter Professional Working Essay 1.Understand the principles of inter–professional working within health and social care or children and young people's setting. 1.1 Analyse how inter–professional working promotes positive outcomes for individuals. Inter professional working is formed from different health and social care professionals working together towards a common goal to meet the needs of a service user. It is about developing relationships within and between organisations and services involved in planning and delivering care and support to the service users we support. By working collaboratively it brings together different types of professionals to share their particular knowledge, experience, skills, occupational values and perspectives to improve service ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Good working relationships are built over time, this creates trust, respect and smooth running of the service. This is apparent at reviews and other meetings when everyone involved with an individual will be brought up to date with any progress or issues. Then any decisions or agreements can be made because everyone involved has an opportunity to voice their opinions/concerns. This leads to a positive outcomes supported by all involved. If there have been previous agreed actions not carried out then this environment makes it easier to remind others of the things that need completing. Also if others are having difficulties in fulfilling their agreements then they will find it easier to ask for help. Respect for each other should be maintained, remembering that we are all working for the best possible outcome for the individual. There is a need to monitor and review working relationships, if conflict or lack of communication is a problem there is a need to establish a reason for this and look for a resolution acceptable to all parties and identify areas for improvement. One way to maintain a good working relationship is to have regular contact not only verbal but face to face contact through meetings at least monthly, this provides opportunity to discuss any concerns or maybe just have a chat about things in general, also keep in touch via email and telephone. It can create problems if the only contact they have is when there are problems as this may give ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Significant Relationships In Pat's Life Significant Relationship An important aspect of life is being able to establish a strong network of support through the development of significant relationships. A network of support can be anyone from a friend, to a family member, or even a colleague (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2017). The network of support is those who ultimately help guide an individual during the good and bad moments in life. Two significant relationships in Pat's life are with his father Patrick Solitano Sr. and with a recently gained friend, Tiffany Maxwell. Tiffany also has problems with establishing relationships and regulating emotions. Although Tiffany has her own challenges, she still tries to pull it together to help support Pat. One way she tries to help is by opening up about her past. By doing this Tiffany is revealing some shameful secrets, but her vulnerability allows a strong connection to start to form. • 17. Slacktivism : The Causes Of Social Media How do we show we support a topic nowadays? Through social media right? Millions of users on Facebook, Youtube, Twitter and Instagram all are outlets for supporting causes. But is this a good or bad thing? Clicking like or share so people see you support it does something, right? Wrong. These people are "slacktivists". Slacktivism is defined simply as doing something to show you support a cause without having to simply "act on it". I do not support "slacktivism" but this argument is controversial. "Slacktivism" can be the first step to acknowledging a cause. Social media has been described by in "someones essay" "as the government's soft weapon". This basically states that social media is the basis of how people access information on a certain topic. The internet is literally like an open book. You can access information everywhere. But this is where the problem arises. Does simply viewing and sharing, or re–tweeting a tweet really do something? Surely there have been tons of successful online campaigns to solve issues. For example, in Pfeifle's essay, "Changing the face(book) of Social Activism", the brutal Ugandan guerilla leader was an issue in Africa. How did people know about this? The answer is YouTube. What resulted from that was the deployment of 100 U.S advisors and 5,00 African Union troops. Social media only solves the issue of awareness. "Slacktivism" is a disease. It spreads like a wildfire among many Americans and other people around the world. Online image is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. The Study Of Popular Culture The study of popular culture is useful in many ways. To specify, this course has reached its three intended main ideas: what it means to be an American, how to be consumption–conscious, and how to apply these studies in our own lives. Jim Cullen puts this in a less specific sense, arguing that the study of popular culture can "afford valuable clues – about collective fears, hopes, and debates" (Cullen, The Art of Democracy, 2). We study these clues to understand the world around us, as well as why we do what we do as Americans and as humans. I will be touching on themes that relate to this quotation by Cullen, escapism, exploitation, and globalization, and how these themes relate to the course goals. Comic book writers would incorporate real–world concerns into their work, proposing ideas of how a post–World War America should function. For example, in one story, Superman crushes "a plot by wealthy American financiers working for a foreign power to manipulate the stock exchange and plunge the nation into another depression" (Comic Book Nation, 12). In this case, the writers are appealing to a worried nation that jumps into a story where superheroes put greedy corporations to rest, and the nation is stable. Escapism also manifested itself in the 'Beatlemania' craze. "In a highly sexualized society ... teen and preteen girls were expected to be not only 'good' and 'pure' but to be the enforcers of purity within their teen society ... To abandon control – to scream, faint, dash about in mobs – was, in form if not in conscious intent, to protest the sexual repressiveness, the rigid double standard of female teen culture. It was the first and most dramatic uprising of women's sexual revolution" (Beatlemania, 85). We shouldn't abuse our friends, we should care for our friends. They're all important! Friends can provide support, comfort, and help and even have fun with each other. When I look for friends, I make sure that they possess many qualities. Some traits I look for in a friend is that they're kind, honest, trustworthy and accepting of my unique ideas. I have many people that fall under this category, but for this essay, I have decided to write about one who stands out. Her name is Aria. Aria is a friend who falls under all of these qualities. She's kind, trustworthy and provides support and comfort. Aria and I have a deep friendship. Aria is a kind person. She cares for each and every one of her friends. An example is when she provides food for me and others. I remember in kindergarten when she brought me a slice of pizza for lunch. More specifically, a tomato–basil slice of pizza. Anyways, I remember feeling strange and weird as this had never happened to me. Before this, I had never gotten food, or any item, from anyone. It was a new experience. Another example is that Aria puts her peers before herself. A couple weeks ago, we were playing Volleyball. Aria would set up her peers for spikes, a move that is hard to accomplish in this sport. • 36. The Danger Of A Single Story Analysis Popular culture is often a reflection of society; both literature and the media have the capacity to cement ideas in the minds of readers and viewers. In many cases, the notions and stories glorified by the media refrain from sharing a true depiction of society and are narrow–minded in their focus. Recently, the feminist movement has denounced popular culture for its ignorance, fighting for a more realistic portrait to be painted by those with the power to reach millions. Specifically, both Roxane Gay's Bad Feminist and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's "The Danger of a Single Story" share how the classic gender stereotypes seen in popular culture are unable to capture the full spectrum of stories that define society, and are limiting in their portrayals of women. Moreover, both authors share personal stories, reference prominent world figures, and cite relevant statistics in their works. Therefore, in both Bad Feminist and "The Danger of a Single Story", Roxane Gay and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie appeal to readers pathos, logos, and ethos in order to construct the argument that the single story of women in popular culture is stereotypical and restrictive. Within her collection of essays, Roxane Gay uses personal anecdotes that appeal to reader's pathos, constructing her argument that women are misrepresented and generalized in popular culture by providing an emotional tether upon which readers can latch on. For example, Gay writes of her experiences as a struggling adolescent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is obvious that healthy social relationships have positive effects on physical and mental health. As the fourth installment in the Mad Max trilogy and an honorable rating of 8.1/10 (Imbd.com), what really makes the film one of a kind is that the movie, usually lead by the vengeful male protagonist, Max Rockatansky, is actually centered on a female cast this time around. By centering the film around a female cast, it alone challenges the views of feminism in popular culture because it portrays women in successful leadership roles, otherwise given to men in a notable action film and popular media. Miller provides the film with the reoccurring role of Max Rockatansky but this time focuses on a new strong and willing female cast, led by a determined Imperator Furiosa who is played by the talented Charlize Theron. In the film, Furiosa and the fives wives are obligated to serve Immortan Joe as slaves and breeders, so the five wives put their lives on the line and with the assistance of the Vulvani, challenge male authority in hope of winning back their freedom. By closely examining feminist ideologies and the actions of the female heroines in the film, the audience can determine the feminist tendencies and message Fury Road is sending popular ... • 58. Essay On Teenage Moms Being a mom is hard, and being a teenage mom is even harder. Most teen moms will drop out and not continue further with their careers. "By age 30, only 1.5 percent of women who had pregnancies as a teenager have a college degree"("Teen Pregnancy Statistics"). Nowadays, schools like Santa Ana College can help these young mothers attain a profession and raise their kids at the same time. Now thanks to colleges like SAC, that percentage can increase, and young mothers can strive to better themselves. Giving them support is essential because it will give them a place where they feel secure and supported; it will help them realize that it's never too late. In our postcard for Santa Ana College, we use the strategy of support to attract teen moms. We use three colors to show support for teen moms in college. The first color we picked is pink. This color is used as the background of the postcard. We used pink as our background because it is a color that signifies the huge amount of support mainly for women. For example, the color pink represents support for women struggling with breast cancer. Pink is a sign of hope. It's a positive color giving a sense that everything will be okay. We also picked pink because pink is known to be a very feminine color. Ever since birth, girls are usually adorned in pink. Another color we used was white. It is used in the lettering of the school, which is "Santa Ana College". These teen moms attending SAC are entering into a new chapter of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. Social Support-Giving Communication A communication approach to the study of social support views it as an interactive process involving support–seeking behavior, the giving of support, and a response to support by the receiver (Barbee, 1990; Burleson et al., 1994; House, 1981). Support–giving communication includes "any behaviors with altruistic intent directed toward another individual" (Dunkel–Schetter, Blasband, Feinstein, & Herbert, 1992, p. 90), such as providing advice or comfort. Those who receive effective social support may experience benefits such as feelings of well–being, a sense of being accepted and understood, and an improved ability to control and cope with stressful events (Burleson, 1994). Many types of social support have been examined in the literature. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 62. My Reflective Web Media Creation My Reflective Web Media Creation (RWMC) project was nearly exactly as I envisioned it in the pitch with only a few changes. In the pitch I discussed how the lead character (Matt Murdoch) would be explain to the Jury why 'Fair Dealing' is not stealing and he would be the 'Punishers' lawyer. However, I changed it in the final video making him the plaintiff, a company lawyer saying the defendant ('Punisher') stole their content and he is not protected by 'Fair Dealing'. I changed it to this as I believed it would make the video more narratively engaging, making the 'Punishers' outburst more provoked and meaningful. I also removed the self–referential element where the 'Punisher' was going to comment on how the video was flipped and colour graded so it would not come up on 'YouTube' copyright detection system. I changed this element as I believed it would make my RWMC more focused and comedic in a serious way. The elements I changed after I presented my RWMC piece were both things the markers and classmates commented on. They said some of the subtitles in the first half went by too fast, so they struggled to read everything being said before the subtitle changed. To remedy this I changed the subtitles from the first half of the video to make it more concise and easier to read, removing words and rewording/rephrasing the subtitles. I did this as it was the main criticism that both my classmates and markers told me. I also fixed the spelling and grammatical errors that were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. Reflection: The Bechdel Test Liu Jiongnan 101922271 Reflection Essay #2: The Bechdel Test Bechdel test is used to test that, first, whether there are two or more women have names in a same movie, second, whether they talk to each other, and third, whether they talk to each other about something other than a man. When the first time that Bechdel test was moved into mainstream criticism, this test was described as "the standard by which feminist critics judge television, movies, books, and other media" (Steiger). People like to use this test to evaluate a movie for a particular purpose; if a movie passes this test, people may say that this movie is woman–friendly, and consists of diversity. Although many movies did not pass this test, people would not criticize those movie as sexism (Romano). However, even though a movie or other media that does not pass this test would not be criticized as sexism, such failure still proves the women characters' relatively weak position in that movie or other media. In addition, many other explanations of failure to pass the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ellie and Lex have their only conversation consisted of two lines in the movie during their escape in a room, which are "We can call for help?" said Lex and "We gotta reboot the system first." from Dr. Ellie. Since each of the two female characters has their own name in the movie and they also conduct a conversation about a topic other than man, this movie, Jurassic Park, passes the Bechdel Test. However, based on the fact that they only have only one conversation with two lines during two hours, and most importantly, they do not even watch each other's face during their conversation, I would not consider the pass of Jurassic Park in this test meaning too much in popular culture and feminist, and I personally suggest more standards to be introduced in this test for a deeper evaluation of a movie from the perspective of no matter feminist and trends of popular ... • 66. The Importance Of Beauty In Popular Culture Question? How do you define yourself as an individual? Through your style, through your mind, through the way that you curl your tongue or even toes? We all have a unique way about who we are and how we carry about ourselves, and it can't simply be defined through the manikins that you see in stores or with the false reality that many media corporations have shown to their audience through poster ads, TV commercial, and products they sell, sets a barrier between the reality and fantasy of beauty standards. Sadly, with programs like Photoshop and SkinneePix, the media helps create the illusion that corporations want their audience to see. These television, magazines, newspapers, and billboard advertisements that different corporations create, are not the only thing that influences standards of beauty in popular culture. But, when shopping online, many companies only put the products that they want to sell and give the consumers the freedom and the right to choose whatever product that they want without the judgment others and/or an advertisement, which is why buying online is personally called my safe place! Popular culture places a large amount of emphasis on the "ideal model look." Which consist of a slender build, perfect hair style, a certain style of makeup, and always dressed in the latest style of fashion. • 68. Three Perspectives On Social Support There are various social support approaches from which to draw from, for the purpose of this paper, I will adopt and briefly introduce the "three social support perspectives on social support research" outlined by Lakey and Cohen (Cohen, Underwood & Gottlieb, 2000, p. 29). The three perspectives on social support are the (a) stress and coping perspective, (b) the social constructionist perspective and (b) the relationship perspective (Lakey & Cohen, 2000). The first perspective suggests that social support acts as a buffer for the effect of stress (Cohen, Underwood & Gottlieb, 2000). The second proposes that our health is influenced by confidence in oneself, which is a consequent of social support (Cohen, Underwood & Gottlieb, 2000). The third perspective however focuses on the foundations of relationships built within social support systems and how the relationships are also considered to have an effect on health (Cohen, Underwood & Gottlieb, 2000). ... • 70. Analysis Of White And The New Yorker Furthermore, In Warshow's review of E.B White and the New Yorker, experience again is at the forefront of his critique, along with a bit of his ever present political views. He makes a very important point at the begging of this review, "The New Yorker has always dealt with experience not by trying to understand it but by prescribing the attitude to be adopted toward it." (warshow 2001, 75) This becomes an interesting argument, even today, as we think about what trends we have seen in popular culture. Do we ever ask ourselves if this is something that has been prescribed to us, instead of by us? Journalism, especially from writers of a certain stature, can often dictate where the culture shifts. If we are able to look at the writing with an objective eye then we are simply learning about another facet of the experience. All to often, though, it is hard for us to be objective. This could be why we, as Americans, have popular culture at all. A journalist tells us what is cool, and we subscribe to that idea as an entire culture. There are always outliers, but when talking about popular culture most Americans are in it for the collective effervesces. I think this point would be highly debated by Warshow. As he says at the end of this review, unable to keep his political feelings at bay, "The purpose of this writing is not to say anything about democracy ...but only to arouse certain familiar responses in the liberal middle–class reader." (warshow 2001,78) Moving forward in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 72. Description Of A Literature Search Planning To achieve the above aims, a literature search was done to check to see if there is any innovation similar to this. My findings shows that there were some spoons that were designed like the one the service user was using, but there was none that had a link strap at the base of the spoon that the service users could use. I came up with the idea of linking the strap to the base of the spoon in a way that the service users could use the spoon, and at the same time drop the spoon when he wants to without the spoon falling on the floor. The advantage of this is that the service user could take back the spoon without any support because the spoon is still within reach; therefore, the service user could continue eating with any interruption. This promotes the service user's independence, inclusion and dignity. This was reinforced by the (DH, 2009) three year strategy Valuing People Now. In addition, the strap is available in different colours; therefore, the service user has the opportunity of choosing their favourite colour. This idea promotes the service user's involvement in their care and choices (DH, 2009). Figure 2 and 3 (below) shows the diagram of the spoon and the strap. The price of the spoon on Amazon at the time of writing this essay was £3.54, and the strap cost £2.50. Ryrie and Anderson (2011) argue that nurses need to know how to do an economic assessment of their innovation in this era of government cuts and savings. They proposed the use of an economic ... • 78. Pop Culture in 1960's and 1990's Essay Pop Culture in 1960's and 1990's In comparing the sixties and the nineties, my first thought was how much popular culture has changed since then and how different society is today. The strange thing is, the more I tried to differentiate between them, the more similarities I found. Both the sixties and the nineties were about youth, creativity, free–thinking, and expression. With the nineties coming to a close and the popularity of anything ?retro," I decided to compare the fashions, people, music, and issues that defined pop culture in the 1960?s and its influence on pop culture in the 1990?s. In the 1960?s, society was changing by the minute and fashion was ?anything goes?. In the early sixties, Jackie Kennedy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As fashion in the 60?s influenced fashion in the 90?s, the spirit of music in the 60?s is present in the music of the 90?s. Many of the artists popular in the sixties are still major forces in music today. There is no one genre of music that can define either decade. After the appearance of the Beatles and the British invasion in the early sixties, music changed and everything before it was all but swept away. There was surf music from the Beach Boys; folk music from Bob Dylan; R&B influenced music from Motown and the Rolling Stones; and psychedelic music from Jefferson Airplane and the Doors. In the nineties, many new types of music evolved. These include rap music and hip–hop which came from urban dissatisfaction and unrest, while underground alternative rock became mainstream. In 1969, the Woodstock music festival embodied the spirit of peace and love. It was repeated in 1994 and 1999, but unfortunately, the festival in 1999 ended in violence, marring the essence of the original Woodstock. Racial tensions, civil rights disturbances, and deeply divided opinions over the American presence in the Vietnam war, all served to give the sixties a radical edge. People were passionate about what they believed in and were willing to give their lives, if necessary, to the cause. Young people became increasingly opposed to the Vietnam war and had a tendency to express their opinions more violently than Martin Luther King, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
