Evaluation Q2
1. How effective is the combination of
your main product and the ancillary
texts?
2. • What we were mainly trying to achieve was to create a short film about a
gang of drug dealers, that have a major deal that has gone wrong with a
twist ending as well. The primary objective we all wanted to achieve was
for the film to be entertaining and not so conventional that it seems like
just another non-standout film. I believe we have achieved this in our film,
but also through the use of a Radio Trailer and also a Poster.
3. • The Radio Trailer is a short piece of audio where we used certain quotes
from the film with background music used from the film as well. Dan did
voiceover for the radio trailer, this was basically stereotypical voiceover
quotes; “Coming soon”, name of producer, name of film etc. This works
well with the film as the music and quotes heard in the trailer will be
heard in the film as well, this will create a sense of familiarity.
4. • The posters we have made for the film are to some extent complying with
previous posters of the crime/thriller genre. The poster shows half of
Sam’s face (as he is the main actor) on a grey background with quotes
from reviewers and critics (as it is independent). Having the effect on the
poster makes it look more gritty, the use of half of his shows he may have
a split personality, which in a way he does as he is an undercover police
man, but also pretending to be part of the gang.
5. • I believe the two advertising products will be very successful in the selling
of our product. The poster is in some way intriguing as when looking
at/reading the poster the title “Risk” is in a font with what appears to be
gunshots surrounding it, the font and title will make people think, what is
he risking or what is the risk. Also the quotes at the top of the poster
basically say if you miss it you will regret it, with these critics saying this it
makes people think that it must be a really good film. Using half of the
face in an aggressive pose the potential audience instantly see that; he
may be in trouble, he may be a criminal etc. The poster has a website for
the film, so when the general public look at the poster they will hopefully
think it looks interesting and as a result go and check out the website. This
will then lead them onto the radio trailer, the trailer will give them the first
insight to the film. The use of the radio trailer (audio) and not a
conventional trailer (visual) will give another sense of intrigue, they will
think who are these people and what is this deal they are doing.
6. • Real advertising products that already exist are; trailers, posters, viral
adverts, merchandise etc. We mainly focussed on posters for inspiration
for our own. A good poster should have a clear title, information on who’s
in it/made it. The main feature of a film poster is to make you want to
watch the film, so any poster that doesn’t make you think “I’m interested
in that” then it isn't a successful poster design. Some films have various
sets of posters for the same film, this would be using different characters
or just different poses of the same one. The last Harry Potter film had lots
of different posters with various characters in them.
