DENGUE FEVER
THE DENGUE FEVER
Dengue virus (DENV) belong to the Flavivirus genus of the Flaviviridae family.
Transmitted by Aedes Aegypti.
The disease:
Dengue fever.
Dengue hemorrhagic fever ( DHF).
Dengue shock syndrome.
Threats:
50 million infections per year.
500000 develop DHF.
22000 deaths per year.
Current treatment :
No vaccine.
Limited efficiency of antiviral drugs.
Treatment for DHF is blood transfusion.
Dengue serotypes
There are 5-dengue virus serotypes Den1- Den5.
All dengue i.e flaviviruses have common group epitopes on the envelope proteins.
Results in extensive cross- section of Ag and Ab complex.

Global warming
Virus unable to transmitted at <26c
Peak season is 15 April---15 Oct
Source is infected person
Incubation period: 4---7 days

NS1: it is imp for viability of den V. And is present in high conc, in blood of patient.
NS3: it is a serine protease and RNA helicase and its co factor is NS2B.
NS5: it codes for RNA dept RNA polymerase.
NS4B: it is hydrophobic protein located in a association with ER. It blocks phosphorylation of
STAT1 (Signal transducer and activator of transcription) after induction by IF a, beta.
NS2A, NS4A are cofactors.

Symptoms of Dengue fever
Diagnosis and treatment:
Dx: CBC,LFTs
Dengue serology,PCR(Ns1)
Treatment: panadol only, no antibiotics NSAIDs etc
Fresh juices of fruits and papaya leaves are better to give.
