Q2 How effective is the
combination of your main
product and ancillary tasks?

Across all three products I created for my artist
‘Blair’ I made sure they all linked together and had
a strong visual identity. I did this by ensuring that
the digipack contained the single ‘Thinking bout
you' on the track list, and also the advert for the
new album ‘Nostalgia’.
I linked them all together using media language, the colour scheme
across all products is a tinted colour, to connote its in the past. I did
this to link to the album name ‘Nostalgia’. Blair was wearing a orange
jumper to relate to the colour scheme of when the music video is in
the past as the tinted colour has orange in it. I also used a pop of
colour like pink and purple to suggest the artist’s femininity. As pink
and purple tend to stereotypically be feminine colours. Also to make
it clear the artist is feminine I put her in a skirt and a bikini.
Also across all three products i created a positive representation of my
artist, I did this as many other female artist have a strong positive image
and become role models to their fans. I’ve made sure Blair’s representation
is positive by not using any taboo language, and not wearing revealing
clothing across all my products. To make my artist representation different
from other mainstream artists i made sure her style was unique. I did this by
putting my artist in more realistic clothing and normal day to day makeup,
which a young female would wear on a daily basis. Also having no tattoos
and being healthy, makes Blair more relatable, which I think is key to
success. I made sure I kept a strong positive representation across all three
products so the target could see the style and attitude of my artist on each
product.
The theorist Andrew Goodwin proposed certain conventions of
music videos, and i think these conventions e.g use of close ups
determine and portray the artist’s representation. I made sure I
used notions of looking in all my products to make the audience
feel included and so they can see her emotions and relate to her.
In conclusion, I think the combination of my main product and
ancillary tasks were successful because all three products
represented my artist coherently and positively through the
media language to appeal to a young fan base. As I compared
mine with other female pop artist such as Ariana Grande, I found
that the conventions they used to be successful I used too, such
as notions of looking and a narrative in a music video.
