US Deficit Analysis
According to The U.S. Deficit, "data from the 2006 Programme for International Student Assessment reveal that 15–year–olds in the U.S. ranked fifteen
of twenty–nine nations studied by the Organization for Economic Co–operation and Development on tests of reading literacy, twenty–first on scientific
literacy, and twenty–fifth in mathematics literacy"(1). If the U.S. does not improve their educational system by 2050, implies The U.S. Deficit, then
half of the U.S. population will be considered illiterate; the U.S. won't be as competitive academically as it was before(1). Many people wonder why

Csd Strategic Plan
Site Overview:
The following review of the strategic plan is for the Rye City School District (RCSD) in Rye, New York. This is a high socio
–economic suburban
district that approximately serves 1,750 students. The district is made up of 3 elementary schools, 1 middle school and 1 high school. According to
the 2015 New York State Report Card, Rye has 218 students with disabilities (7%), 87 economically disadvantaged students(3%) and 79 (2%) students
with limited English proficiency.
Purpose:
RCSD has committed itself to long–term planning that focuses on continued student improvement through academic rigor and high expectations for
all. RCSD has a reputation for high quality education in which finds itself in high national and local ranks amongst ... Show more content on

RCSD must really focus on improvement rather than preserving the past. If RCSD continues to evaluate its strategic plan on the basis of sustainment,
the long term effects can stunt the growth of a high performing district. Regardless of your feelings of success, there is always room for growth. The
plan for performance measure has too much ambiguity and very subjective to the evaluator.
Implementation/Action Plan:
RCSD believe that its goals are attainable when they employ the best possible school staff and support them both professionally and personally. There
is a focus on encouraging the development of meaningful and interpersonal relationships among the students, the staff and community. RCSD also
encourages all students to develop skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening and mathematics as well as develop skills in oral and written English in
order to communicate effectively [RCSD].
Inclusion of Roles, Responsibilities, and Timelines:
Roles: Higher administration at the district level will develop strategic priorities to ensure success of the plan each year. Building administration,
teachers and staff will implement plans at the building

Effects of Social Networking to Students
CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
INTRODUCTION
Social Networking is one of the trendiest topics being talked about by the students in Sta. Teresa College. Examples of social networking sites are
Friendster, Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. Social Networking Sites help us to communicate with our friends, classmates, and relatives but they also
allow us to communicate with other people who contribute to common interests with us. For instance a person added another person as a friend on
Facebook since both of them is addicted on playing Restaurant City. Through these social networking sites, we develop virtual interpersonal
relationships. An interpersonal relationship is a relatively long–term relationship between two or more people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Significance of the Study
The researchers determined the role of social networking sites on the social aspects of students.
Students – The result of this study will make the students aware of how does social networking sites influence them and how does it affect their
interpersonal relationships. This will educate the students regarding the proper usage of social networking sites. This will help the students to improve
their social life with the use of social networking sites.
Teachers – This study can help the teachers by suggesting some ways in order for them to relate with student's social activities especially with regards
of using social networking sites. In line with this, teachers, as student's second parents, will know a way how to help the students if they will be
encountering a problem regarding the relationship of their students with other people.
Parents – This study will help parents to understand their child's purpose of using social networking sites and for them to be aware of the influence
from social networking sites that might affect their children. With enough knowledge, parents can think of possible preventive ways if their child is
prone to develop a weak interpersonal relationship with other people because of too much usage and dependence from social networking

Essay On School-Wide Data Analysis
School–Wide Data Analysis Overview
I gathered and analyzed the MAP results for students who took Math, Reading, Science tests in grades k–9 in order to identify percentage of Students
who met or exceeded their projected RIT (Rasch Unit) in 2016–2017 school year. I also analyzed the results by classroom, subject, and teacher. I used
the MAP winter 2016 results, I prepared a projected proficiency summary report for the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortia (SBAC) and ACT
tests in spring 2017. Currently, I am helping the admin team to develop a plan for low performing teachers and students in order to increase student
achievement in the area of concern.

I started my activity by gathering the math results in the fall 2016 term. The results shows "Norms Reference Data", student's RIT score, Projected
RIT score and percentile in Math. I did the same method for gathering the data for reading, and science.
At the end of the MAP fall test, I shared the test results with the classroom teachers and admin. The admin team also had one on one meeting with
some of the teachers to talk about the projected goals and how we can help them to achieve these goals. After the spring test, I gathered the results in
order to compare the growth between fall term and spring term in 2016–2017 school year. The tests results clearly show that 2nd and 4th grade students
struggled with both subjects reading and math. 3rd grade and 6th grade students did not have a good year in Math. Overall all students in 3–8 grades
did well in science except K–2 and 9 grade students because they did not take the test (see Appendix A for more information on The Percentage of
Students who Met or Exceeded their Projected RIT).
I combined all of the test results by teacher, classroom in order to have a deeper understanding of the results in teacher and classroom level. I took the
average of The Percentage of Students who met or Exceeded their Projected RIT for each teacher. I sorted teachers by their performance and presented
it to the admin team (see Appendix B for more information on the teacher performance).
I also prepared projected proficiency report

Freire's Problem-Posing Method
1.Freire's essay provides some powerful points about the classroom situation with the teacher and the student. Throughout my whole high school year,
I have had few teachers, who cared about getting through the day and following their schedule of what the scholars are supposed to be learning. As
students arrive in the class, the teacher has the book number already on the board and expect us to read the book, answer the questions and expect
you to understand it. A prime example would be a math class, the teacher would only show way of getting to a solution, and on the check and quizzes
if a student arrives at the answer using a different system, the student would be penalized. According to Freire,Education thus becomes an act of
depositing, in which the scholars are the depositories and the teacher is the depositor, which they refers to as the Banking idea. However,
"Problem–posing" classes would be very different. The teachers would be very open minded, flexible and they would permit for class discussions and
questions regarding what was taught. Not only do the teachers teach, but students do as well. An example would be a history class where it's all debate
and conferences where communication is back and forth. There is no oppression in this system compared to the banking system. ... Show more content

Students must method it, examine it and create it in order to be actively taking part in the learning method. Schooling has seldom allowed students to
think for themselves, therefore Freire refers to "reflection" as a balanced relationship a teacher and student ought to have. They encourages thinking
freely and development of new theories. Teachers might learn new student experiences and new point of views. Both could learn different learning
techniques, creative ways to present materials to make it fascinating, yet

Vocabulary is the knowledge of words that able us to communicate with others orally, or in writing, and it is acquired through listening or reading. A
learning experience of vocabulary, that is called indirect, is obtained when children engage in daily conversation with family and friends, through read
aloud by adults, or through own reading. Instead, the learning experience of vocabulary, gained through teacher word instruction, it's called direct.
Importance to the Reading Process As children learn new vocabulary words while learning to read, they understand and make connection with the
sounding of the letters already acquired, to the word they see in print. Even though children learn the vocabulary meanings, usually through indirect

Teaching Competencies in Relation to Students' Academic...
Chapter 1
Introduction
Teacher competence and teacher quality are concepts that are often referred to and frequently applied in different educational contexts. Whitty (1996)
identifies professional competence, which includes knowledge and understanding of children and their learning, subject knowledge, curriculum, the
education system and the teacher's role. Professional competence also necessitates skills such as subject application, classroom methodology, classroom
management, assessment and recording and undertaking a wider role.
In America, the teaching competencies of under– certified school teachers were compared to the teaching competencies of regularly certified school
teachers. Results indicate that the student's academic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, it is an aid as a main constituent in making teaching more efficient as well as improving learning situation to become more properly

Scope and limitation of the study
The study will be conducted on the second semester (2011–2012) in SPAMAST–CAS Matti, Digos City. Data on student's academic records were
obtained from selected five faculty five faculty members of the SPAMAST–CAS Institution.
The teaching competencies of selected five faculty members were measured in terms of teaching efficiency, competencies and standards of teacher in
teaching–learning process and role of teachers in learning and were rated by the students.
The level of study habits of the students were measured in terms of the assessment items for the students and were rated by themselves.
Definition of Terms
The following are the operational definition of terms used in the study:
В· Academic Performance–refer to how students deal with their studies and how they cope with or accomplish different tasks to them by their teacher.
It is the ability to study and remember facts and being able to communicate your knowledge verbally or down on paper.
В· Teaching competencies– these are specific items of teaching behaviors of the faculty. In this study, these are categorized into teaching efficiency,

Flippedped Classroom
For as long as many of us can remember, teachers in classrooms would be found lecturing next to the chalkboard with a piece of chalk in hand. In a
time when Smart Boards did not exist, when schools only had a few desktop computers, when most teachers were not even adept at using technology,
chalkboards were the norm. After the teacher introduced or reviewed a concept in class, students were sent home with a worksheet of practice problems
they were expected to complete at home. In 2018, however, the traditional methods of delivering information to students are outdated. Children today
grow up never knowing a world without smartphones, tablets, or computers. In this everchanging, fast–paced world, it is vital that educators adapt to
the needs of today's students and find ways to deliver information that will hold their attention. One of the most effective ways of teaching math to
today's youth is through the use of technology in flipped classrooms. In a "flipped" classroom, students are introduced to new topics by watching
assigned instructional videos at home. Class time is then reserved for practice, collaborative projects, and more meaningful discourse. In this way, the
traditional means of teaching is flipped; instead of learning new concepts in class and then doing practice problems at... Show more content on

The Impact Of Technology On A Student 's Ability
I. BACKGROUND The implementation of technology in the classroom is a pressing topic in education. There are both positive and negative
arguments when discussing the impact of technology on a student's ability to learn. Three parties play a role in the success of technology in the
classroom, including the teacher, student, and parent. Along with the introduction of technology comes new terms that must be understood. II.
TERMS Four terms are commonly mentioned when discussing the implementation of technology in the classroom. A classroom that has transferred
from the traditional teaching model to a virtual classroom conducted via video is known as a flipped classroom. Lessons are sent to students using
resources such as email, Dropbox, and YouTube, which leaves classroom time available for other activities like personalized instruction. This leads
to a second term known as personalized learning, which refers to the use of technology to cater to a student's particular needs. Apps can be used to
assess if a student is understanding the material and allows a student to move as quickly or as slowly through the material to ensure their
comprehension. The way in which a student learns the best can also be identified. The amount of time that students use devices such as tablets,
phones, and laptops is referred to as screen time. Students also have access to programs and extracurricular activities referred to under the acronyms:
STEM, STEAM, and STREAM. STEM stands for Science,

Although the construct, disposition, in teacher education may be redundant now, it is not entirely inadequate as it may provide a pilot hypothesis for
further investigations (Murray, 2007; Windschitl, 2003). The implications from the previous studies provide the groundwork for exploring teacher
dispositions. In order to effectively investigate this, a definition for dispositions by our governing bodies must be identified. "NCATE now defines
Professional Dispositions as: Professional attitudes, values, and beliefs demonstrated through both verbal and non–verbal behaviors as educators
interact with students, families, colleagues, and communities. These positive behaviors support student learning and development" (2007). Institutions
take their own stab at defining dispositions in many ways. The National Association for the Education of Young Children states in order to enact and
examine surface disposition: "All teaching staff evaluates and improve their own performance based on ongoing reflection and feedback from
supervisors, peers and families. They add to their knowledge and increase their ability to put knowledge into practice. They develop an

Transition And Secondary School Secondary Schools
For the majority of young people, transitions or transfers generally occur between nursery and primary school, primary school and secondary school,
and from secondary school to higher education and/or work (Topping, 2011). Sometimes this change is known as transition, sometimes as transfer but
for the purpose of this study we will use the term transition. Transition can be defined as a passage or change from one stage to another. At around the
age of 11, pupils' are required to make that change from primary to secondary school. This typically involves a change of school location, meeting and
forming relationships with new peers, learning to organise and meet deadlines and responding to a number of teachers for different subject areas.
Secondary schools tend to be much larger than primary schools and pupils are often required to move from one location to another for their classes. At
the same time, they need to arrive to each class on time. With this is mind, it is important for the pupils' to learn what organisation involves to meet the
timetable requirements. These challenges are different to those in primary school were pupils' spend the majority of their day in the same classroom
setting with the same teacher and same peer groups (Coffey, 2013). In contrast tosecondary school, all of their personal belongings are located in this
one classroom.

Positive Implications Of Teacher Attrition
Summary It is no secret that teacher attrition or teacher turnover, as it is known in the article by Ronfeldt, Loeb, and Wyckoff, is a major problem for
the United States and it has lasting effects on schools and the individuals in those schools (Ronfeldt, Loeb, & Wyckoff, 2012, p. 5). The authors
continue with the idea that most research done on teacher turnover has correlated it with negative effects and this is one of the reasons for this
research article because few papers and researchers have tried to objectively determine if the effects are beneficial rather than just assuming that most
teacher turnover if not all is negative and has a harmful effect on schools (Ronfeldt, Loeb, & Wyckoff, 2012, p. 5). The effects of teacher turnover can
be many and two words that come up often in this article are compositional explanations which are explanations that help deduce the total effects of the
teacher's quality and effectiveness on student achievement; in simpler terms, compositional explanations are basically the team of teachers that are
already at the school so their skills and quality will strong indicators of student achievement, but are far and away from the only factors (Ronfeldt,
Loeb, & Wyckoff, 2012, pp. 5–6). Examples of the negative and positive implications these explanations will influence student achievement are varied,
but a couple examples are: the revolving door of schools with poor teacher performance and/or low student achievement and the supply and

In the traditional education environments, the duty of the students is to adhere the education activities as a passive receiver and memorize the content
of the lesson (Surmeli 2007: 30). PowerPoint presentations create more powerful sensory alerts when compared with the traditional education materials
(blackboard, overhead projections, etc.)While giving the lessons with PowerPoint presentations, the content of the lesson stays the same, but the form
of transmitting the lesson to the student changes. The PowerPoint presentations which are prepared for lessons have the advantages such as having
strong colors, gradual building of text, simple animation of diagrams, facilities for simple editing and updating (Lowry 1999:19). Thus it can be
mentioned that the PowerPoint presentations provide significant time and force savings. As the popularity of the PowerPoint presentations increase,
the studies concerning the pedagogical results of the usage of this tool increase. The advantages of giving lessons with the PowerPoint presentations
could be generalized as follows in the light of the academic studies till now: * PowerPoint contributes to properly forming the course content and
giving lesson (Sugahara & Boland 2006: 392, Hlynka & Mason 1998: 47, Nouri & Shahid 2005: 55). * It simplifies taking notes

Corporal Punishment And Its Usage
Introduction The topic of whether or not parents and teachers should use corporal punishment in the name of discipline had caught my eye for
several reasons. One of the most important reasons is that I was beaten by a wooden paddle while I was growing up. I was about 12 years of age
when my teacher beats all of my classmates including me just because one of us was misbehaving. That was in Baghdad, Iraq, where teachers and
parents are allowed to use corporal punishment freely without any fear. Another reason is that I was born in a Catholic well–educated family that
showed me what love and respect actually is. Hence, my parents didn't accept what that teacher did and went to tell on her. They thought that a
teacher should never do any kind of physical harm to their children, even if they used to do so. Therefore, I chose this topic to read more about
corporal punishment and its usage in the United States. The key terms that are important in this paper are defined to give a full understanding of the
issue. The term corporal punishment is defined as "the act of disciplining a child through physical means" ("Corporal Punishment", 2006, p.1).
However, there is a legal definition that most states use, which says, "Parents are allowed to use reasonable force in physically disciplining their
children" ("Corporal Punishment", 2006, p.3). Later on, I will also talk about the effective ways of disciplining a child that is nonphysical methods.
One of them is "timeouts" which is

Preschool Programs And The Universal Preschool
Preschool programs are designed specifically to make sure that children are ready for kindergarten and will be able to succeed in school by third
grade. All preschool programs have three characteristics in common. They are governed by high program standards, are open to 3 and 4 year–olds, and
focus on school readiness. The term universal preschool means that preschool programs are available to any child in a given state, regardless of
family income, children's abilities, or any other factors (Colker). Like Kindergarten in most states, the concept of the Universal Preschool Movement
is to have a voluntary program, unlike compulsory elementary. Universal preschool would make preschool programs available to any child in a
given state, regardless of family income, children's abilities, or other factors. Several states are on the path to funding universal preschool currently.
Some states have preschool programs that are not universal and have targeted audiences, either children from families with low incomes or children
from families with various risk factors that could affect their learning. In Arkansas, for example, in addition to family income level, eligibility is based
on children having risk factors including placement in foster care, a parent on active military duty, or family violence (Arkansas DHS). Many states
have similar programs intended to help high risk children attend preschool. Universal preschool would give every family the opportunity to send their
children to

Background Information: George is a 13 year 1 month old (13;1) English speaking male. George is currently attending 6th grade at Abrego Elementary
School, where he as attended since kindergarten. George will begin middle school in the Fall, and was assessed using the Clinical Evaluation of
Language Fundamentals– Fourth Edition (CELF–4) in order to obtain a profile that addresses his communicative strengths and weaknesses. This
profile will help to begin planning his transition into middle school and the appropriate interventions that will be required. Utilizing school records
and interviews with George's maternal grandparents and teachers, the following information was obtained: George currently lives with and is taken
care of by his maternal grandparents. His father is in the military and is deployed overseas; his mother is deceased. George's mother drank alcohol
and smoked cigarettes while pregnant and did not receive prenatal care. George's birth weight is unknown, but was reported to be a small baby, per
his grandparents. Additionally, the grandparents reported that as an infant he had difficulty eating and sleeping, food allergies (not specified), and that
he had many colds and middle ear infections (otitis media). George's third grade teacher first expressed a concern with his academics, and referred him
for testing. Consequently, George was diagnosed with having a learning disability (LD) and began receiving special education services for reading,
writing, and math.

Diversifying Teaching Styles to Meet the Needs of All...
Diversifying Teaching Styles to Meet the Needs of All Learners When researching about education, one often finds a great deal of literature and
information about learning styles. Educators spend countless hours studying their students in order to find out how they learn best. All students have
needs when it comes to how they learn and educators must be able to meet those needs in order to promote successful learning in their classrooms. This
(paper/article) will focus on teaching strategies and how to vary them so that each learning style preference is addressed, therefore increasing the level
of achievement of each student and making learning a successful outcome in the classroom. Strategies, or methods of instruction,... Show more content

These suggestions will increase the amount of learning for students in your classroom. There have been several publications written on the topic of
teaching styles and sifting through all the information can be tedious. The first, and most obvious, place to start would be to discuss a little about how
learning occurs. The brain is a complex organ that scientists are still studying. Much has been learned about the brain, but much more needs to be
researched. One thing that has been studied a great deal is memory and how it works. All human beings use their memory to learn. Information that has
been learned was processed in the short–term memory and stored in the long–term memory. We retrieve the information through recall, recognition,
and encoding specificity. Recall is a simple retrieval of information. Recognition involves a set of "pre–generated stimuli presented to learners for a
decision or judgment" (Driscoll, 2000). For example, when one hears the words "Oh say can you see..." one automatically recognizes it as the
opening line to the national anthem. The encoding specificity principle states that whatever cues are to facilitate encoding will also serve as the best
retrieval cues for remembering (Driscoll, 2000). For example, wearing the same clothes to take a test as when studying for the test will increase the
likelihood of recalling the information

Classroom Strategies Research Paper
Classroom Strategies
Clear strategy teaching is at the ultimate of good comprehension teaching. "Before" strategies inspire students' previous understanding and set a
willpower for reading. "During" strategies benefits students in creating connections, monitor their understanding, create questions, and also stay
motivated. "After" strategies offer students a chance to review, question, reflect, debate, and reply about text.
Teachers should aid students to identify why a strategy is valuable, how it is used, and at what time it is suitable. Teacher demonstration and emerging
are desperate aspects for achievement, and student conversation following strategy course is also beneficial. The most frequently researched strategies

Teachers provide students with a list of terms or concepts from reading material. Students place words into another category based on each word's
meaning. Categories can be outlined by the teacher or by the students. When used before reading, concept sorts present a chance for a teacher to see
what his or her students already know about the particular content. When used after reading, teachers can evaluate their students' understanding of the
concepts portrayed.
Benefits
This technique is useful when there is a lot of specific vocabulary to introduce. Concept sorts increase reading skills by recommending the content to
which students can select new oral terminology. This method has been shown to be predominantly effective for ELL students. Teachers can use
concept Sort strategy with the entire class, small groups, independently. Observing each student's sorting process offers teachers with evidence about
how much the students previously know about the topic. This permits teachers to modify instruction consequently.

Sources of stress and professional burnout of teachers of special educational needs in Greece
Antoniou, A.S. University of Manchester

Abstract
According to recent international research, Special Educational Needs (SEN) teachers serve one of the most stressful occupations. Special working
conditions such as the high ratio of teachers and pupils, the limited progress due to the various problems of the pupils with special needs and the high
workload exert an additional psychological pressure on the personality and the work performance of SEN teachers. The aim of this study was to
investigate the specific sources of stress which make the work of Greek SEN ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examples include excessive paperwork requirements, increasing caseloads, low salaries, lack of administrative support, challenging student behaviours
and lack of visible student progress (Cooley & Yovanoff, 1996).
Teachers' stress and especially the SEN teachers' stress is likely to include medium or low levels of job satisfaction and high levels of turnover.
Three measures have been widely employed as response correlates or indices of occupational stress generally: job satisfaction, absenteism and
intention to leave (Kyriacou and Sutcliffe, 1979). In a study carried out in 1996, it has been found that 80% of the headteachers of special schools of
the sample, believed that the teaching profession was a very stressful occupation and more than 50% of the sample did not plan to continue this
occupation in the future (Male & May, 1997). American studies have demonstrated the critical staff shortages in specialeducation, due to declining
enrollments in special education teacher preparation programmes in effect reducing the available supply of new teachers (Cooley & Yovanoff, 1996).
On the other hand, the growing demand for special educators owing to the increasing population of children who require special educational needs
services, contributes to the problem of the short supply.
Relevant research evidence derived from studies conducted in mainstream schools (primary and secondary ) showed that for secondary school teachers

Describe 2-3 Strategies For Preventing Bullying In Schools
1. How are bias and bullying related?
Bias and bullying are directly related. Most bullies have prejudice or are bias towards a subject matter. For example, if a certain individual believes
males are the dominate gender, then it will be easy for that male to bully females. To end bullying means to end bias, because generally the two are
connected.
2. Describe 2–3 strategies for preventing bullying in schools. Which do you think is most effective?
There are many strategies to discourage and prevent bullying. The three suggestions that stuck out to me the most were giving a bullying quiz, mixing
up a lunch day, and watching a movie. Mixing up a lunch day refers to the idea of encouraging students to step out of their comfort zones and to sit
with new students. This generates a friendly environment which helps stop early clichГ©s from forming. The third idea is watching the movie,
"Bullied." The movie illustrates the perspective of bullying by the person being bullied and the negative effects that bullying causes. The theme of the
movie is to end bullying and to encourage students to care for their fellow classmates. Overall, the bullying quiz is a best choice to prevent bullying,
because it is a way to focus on a subject matter, and show students the importance of the information. Testing is a great... Show more content on

Teachers must examine their classroom environments daily and encourage students to report bullying, as well as feel comfortable to talk to teachers.
Additionally, teachers need to be sober–minded about the significance of terms such as "there was drama" or "he was messing with me." These are
major clues that indicate bullying and need to be dealt with immediately. Personally, I have not seen these signs in my fellow peers. Overall, teachers
need to be very attentive to any signs that indicate bullying and encourage students to not bully their fellow

in OU, 2017), as such, the names of all participants have been changed.
Developing Myself
I have developed an array of skills throughout my life experiences which I will be able to bring to my studies. One of my strongest strengths is my
ability to read analytically and to pick out relevant information from a given extract or section in a book. I have developed this skill throughout my
years of studying up to A Level and now degree level, with my studies in English Literature being particularly helpful in developing this skill. I am a
naturally helpful and caring person, and have wanted to be a primary school teacher since my early teenage years. My passion to be a primary school
teacher led me to complete work experience in a junior school. This has given me a good understanding of primary aged children and will enable me
to link course materials to real life experience which will benefit me and help me to understand certain concepts.
In addition to the skills I will bring to my studies from my life experiences, I have developed several skills from my work life. I have worked in a
variety of office roles from finance to customer services and, during these roles, I have developed my skills in data analysis, time management, and
organisation. Time management and organisational skills will be important skills for my study as

legal bases of education and the programs and projects of the department. It must also be clarified about the rights, responsibilities, and accountabilities

the program for teachers with 0–3 years experience. Related studies reviewed by the Council reinforced the need for a structured teacher support.
There was the consensus that the beginning teacher should not develop a "curve of disenchantment" especially in their first three years of teaching. In
an interview of 20 teachers in a small public high school in Cavite City, the researcher found out that none of them have a formal induction when they
first started to work in the school. They all found out their rights, responsibilities, expected tasks, the history of the organization and many more by
hearsays or stories of their fellow employees which sometimes brought them confusion, anxiety stress, and worst burn–out. The situation might have
caused teachers to think of quitting their jobs and find other careers somewhere else. The major thrust of this study was to identify the relationship of
the induction program to the performance and morale of teachers in DepEd, Cavite City. The findings of this study will

affected in the short term, teachers can modify their responses to the target behaviors in order to decrease their power. Knowing that Joe's behavior is
rarely a person attack will help the teachers to maintain their equanimity. Not only will this response avoid behavior reinforcement, but also it will
provide the student a model of respect. Teaching of alternative skills. In order to replace inappropriate behaviors, teacher can teach alternative skills.
Recommended strategies are (1) bolstering appropriate social and play skills, (2) encouraging the student to use effective self–control strategies, (3)

momentum among scholars and practitioners in the past 20 years (Sendjaya & Sarros, 2002). Twenty–first century scholars presented the servant leader
as one moving beyond being transformational. These servant leaders possess the intent of transforming those served to grow personally and
professionally, become more autonomous, and increase the likelihood of becoming servants themselves (Spears & Lawrence, 2004). Studies have
shown a relationship between implementing principles of servant leadership and positive organizational climate (Ehrhart, 2004; Hunt, 2002; McCowan,
2004).
In Good to Great, Jim Collins (2001) describes the highest level of leadership as a Level 5 leader, who is a servant leader. Collins also contends the
companies that evolved from good to great had Level 5 leaders and that the transformational power of the servant leader and the effect that he/she has
on a group of employees and colleagues to lift an organization from mediocrity to greatness is astounding.
Greenleaf (2002) defined servant leadership as leaders who are servant leaders who aspire to serve first, and then choose to lead. Greenleaf identified
some common servant leadership characteristics as being love, humility, altruism, vision, trust, empower and service. Shaw & Newton (2014) made a
statement that the practice of servant leadership in schools could have a similar impact, particularly as it relates to teacher satisfaction and retention.

MISCONCEPTIONS ON LEARNER AUTONOMY: A METHODOLOGICAL AND CONCEPTUAL RENEWAL
Asuman AЕћIK (*)
Abstract Learner autonomy emerges as the result of many methodological innovations in second/foreign language teaching over the last dec1ades,
especially in communicative language teaching and learner–centered approaches. As the learner has become the center of the foreign language
teaching, autonomy has been attributed to the learner as one of the essential capabilities that a learner should have. Learners are the ones who are in
charge of learning. To motivate learners inlanguage education can happen only if the learners can learn on their own as well as the cooperation with ...

Without institutionalised teaching, a human being can learn many issues through his/her life. Children may learn through observing or experiencing
other children, adults or their parents. Without forcing someone to learn something, a person can learn so many things in life if s/he wants to learn.
The term 'autonomy' starts to be used within language teaching due to those innovations in foreign language teaching. Learner autonomy, in its
broadest sense, puts the learner at the focal point of all attention and it endows him/her with responsibility for his/her actions. Each student can learn
himself/herself. No one can learn anything for somebody else. Thus, each learner should have the responsibility for his/her learning if s/he really wants
to learn. For the last three decades the significance of autonomy in language teaching has been discussed a lot. However, 'autonomy' may be confused
in terms of its definitions, its characteristics and its implementetation in teaching/learning process with so many other terms. There has been many
attempts to relate autonomy with self–access learning, individualized learning or self–directed learning etc. Autonomy should not be misinterpreted by
relating it through other concepts that put the learner into foreground in language teaching/learning process or as for its implementation it should not
be applied as the learning without a teacher or learning outside

The Effectiveness of Mobile Computing Devices in Classroom...
The Effectiveness of Mobile Computing Devices in Classroom Instruction
Most schools, both local and international, are now venturing into using mobile computing devices for classroom instruction. Thus, La Salle Green
Hills (LSGH) pioneered the use of tablets in the classrooms at the later part of 2012 and named this endeavor as the PERsonal Learning device
(PEARL) program. During its initial stage, students of the honors classes were selected as its participants. On the following year around eight to nine
sections in the High School level opted to join the said program. However, during the course of the said program implementation, certain issues have
been raised that needed to be addressed by the school especially in the area of student learning. Based on a study made by a group of LSGH High
School teachers last February 2014 on the effectiveness of using tablets in Grade 10 English classes, it has been observed that there is no distinct
difference between the non–tablet and tablet classes in terms of student performance. This may be attributed to the following: 1). there is no definite
strategic plan made except for the roadmap on how the PEARL program will be implemented. 2). the infrastructure set–up was not carefully taken into
consideration. 3). teachers have not been given enough training prior to its implementation. 4). the policies and guidelines drafted on the students' use
of tablets were vague or lacking in terms of giving sanctions to erring students.

The Practice Of Questioning Within Formative Assessment
1. Introduction
With recent changes and reform to primary education assessment and removal of standard levels, assessment is the subject of great discussion in
education. In this assignment I will be investigating the practice of questioning within formative assessment; the theory behind it, strategies and
evidence I have seen in the autumn term of my 'Home' placement. I have chosen to investigate this aspect of formative assessment in mathematics, as
this is the subject in which I have had most teaching practice and opportunities to formatively assess children's progress and implement Assessment for
Learning. It has also been an area I have found challenging, in particular how to question children to promote higher order thinking in mathematics, a
subject that many children find challenging.
Andrew Pollard (2014) suggests in his book of reflective teaching to take elements of teaching from the classroom that you think will work for you.
He explains three elements underpin teaching; craft, science and creativity. Throughout my first term of placement and the research and literature I
have submerged myself in, I have come to appreciate the context he means these three areas in and how they are all interwoven to develop a personal
pedagogy. In this assignment I will reflect upon the literature I have digested and explain the strategies and philosophies I have taken from leading
educational academics and their research to develop my own approach to primary mathematics

The Possibility Of Integrating Critical Thinking For...
Chapter Two: Investigating the Possibility of Integrating Critical Thinking in English Language Teaching Introduction Montaigne views that "saying is
one thing; doing is another thing" (qtd. in Robson 191). This insinuates that what one says might be different from what s/he does, hence the necessity
when enquiring about the possibility of integrating critical thinking in English Language Teaching. This chapter is devoted to the investigation of the
hypothesis of the study, whether critical thinking could be incorporated in English Language Teaching. This chapter is undertaken with this spirit, we
will start our investigation by introducing the population of the study. Then, we describe, analyze and interpret the questionnaires results. It will help us
confirm or disconfirm our hypotheses about possible correlation between critical thinking and language teaching. We provide two sections, first, we
deal with the students' questionnaire followed by its analysis, and then, we will move to do the same with teachers' questionnaire. 2.1.Methodology
2.1.1.Hypothesis It is worth to reiterate our research hypothesis: Incorporating the teaching of critical thinking skills may enhance EFL students'
mastery of the field, and raise their awareness about their own learning, thereby, they become autonomous. 2.1.2.Population What is worth being
mentioned is that the reason behind opting for master students to be the case of our study is their level of mastery

3. Go over the new vocabulary the following lesson. It is very important for the students not to lose touch with what comes as novel information.
Assigning homework tasks where learners will supposedly use the new words is not sufficient because not all of the learners do homework regularly.
Thus, the teacher should begin each new lesson with a small retrospection of what was covered in class before and engage all the students in this
activity, which can be turned into a game. This technique is also known as "schemata activation". 4. Motivate students to spend more time exposed to
the target language. The best and the only way for learners to use vocabulary correctly is to be exposed to the foreign language. Ideally, students would
achieve the native–like pronunciation and accuracy the best if they live in the target language country. Yet, we know that this situation is not always
possible, so we as future teachers should inform students of the all the possibilities that would easily enable them to get in touch with the foreign
language. Apart from watching movies and reading books, one very useful activity is to transcribe TV news on paper and present them in class. By
doing this, students encounter many new words in their real–life context and by presenting them, they will memorize the words better. Another
possible option is to change the language option of the social networks such Facebook, Twitter or their Google accounts in the

The Bill Will Help American School Systems Improve Schools

It is interesting how the United States is seen as one of the world's strongest economies while their school systems are so inefficient. The United States
spends such a small amount of time improving and updating their education system which molds the minds of their future generations. American
education is falling behind because the Nation refuses to make changes on helping schools get up–to–date while the rest of the Nation is evolving and

The reason why a neighborhood is dangerous, dirty and rundown is because schools are not educating the children in that area effectively. There are
three main flaws with our current school system, and the first is that children who face more challenges academically are alienated and categorized
as a lost cause. The second issue is that the world is changing but school systems have stayed the same. Finally, the third problem is that teachers do
not get timely feedback or get properly evaluated on the progress they make as a teacher. One of the problems is that students who are having
trouble in school are not getting the attention and help they need. For generations, the failure of American education has been pushed aside and
ignored because people refused to believe that there was a problem.[2] This society has a tendency to isolate the children who see no point in going
to school. We, as a society, wait to watch their future crumble instead of inspiring them to get back on track. Once we begin to categorize them as
"hopeless", we start to give up on more children that need help, and the numbers will continue to rise. The No Child Left Behind program is not
sufficient in bringing all students up to standard. One of the reasons for this is the misallocation on education funding. In 2014, the allocated federal
funding for education was roughly 1% of the total federal budget.[3] In order to have education reform, we must create more relevant

  • 1. US Deficit Analysis According to The U.S. Deficit, "data from the 2006 Programme for International Student Assessment reveal that 15–year–olds in the U.S. ranked fifteen of twenty–nine nations studied by the Organization for Economic Co–operation and Development on tests of reading literacy, twenty–first on scientific literacy, and twenty–fifth in mathematics literacy"(1). If the U.S. does not improve their educational system by 2050, implies The U.S. Deficit, then half of the U.S. population will be considered illiterate; the U.S. won't be as competitive academically as it was before(1). If RCSD continues to evaluate its strategic plan on the basis of sustainment, the long term effects can stunt the growth of a high performing district. Regardless of your feelings of success, there is always room for growth. The plan for performance measure has too much ambiguity and very subjective to the evaluator. Implementation/Action Plan: RCSD believe that its goals are attainable when they employ the best possible school staff and support them both professionally and personally. There is a focus on encouraging the development of meaningful and interpersonal relationships among the students, the staff and community. RCSD also encourages all students to develop skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening and mathematics as well as develop skills in oral and written English in order to communicate effectively [RCSD]. Essay On School-Wide Data Analysis School–Wide Data Analysis Overview I gathered and analyzed the MAP results for students who took Math, Reading, Science tests in grades k–9 in order to identify percentage of Students who met or exceeded their projected RIT (Rasch Unit) in 2016–2017 school year. I also analyzed the results by classroom, subject, and teacher. I used the MAP winter 2016 results, I prepared a projected proficiency summary report for the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortia (SBAC) and ACT tests in spring 2017. Currently, I am helping the admin team to develop a plan for low performing teachers and students in order to increase student achievement in the area of concern. Theme The program assessment activity is aligned with "Standard 4. Curriculum, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I started my activity by gathering the math results in the fall 2016 term. The results shows "Norms Reference Data", student's RIT score, Projected RIT score and percentile in Math. I did the same method for gathering the data for reading, and science. At the end of the MAP fall test, I shared the test results with the classroom teachers and admin. The admin team also had one on one meeting with some of the teachers to talk about the projected goals and how we can help them to achieve these goals. After the spring test, I gathered the results in order to compare the growth between fall term and spring term in 2016–2017 school year. The tests results clearly show that 2nd and 4th grade students struggled with both subjects reading and math. 3rd grade and 6th grade students did not have a good year in Math. Overall all students in 3–8 grades did well in science except K–2 and 9 grade students because they did not take the test (see Appendix A for more information on The Percentage of Students who Met or Exceeded their Projected RIT). I combined all of the test results by teacher, classroom in order to have a deeper understanding of the results in teacher and classroom level. I took the average of The Percentage of Students who met or Exceeded their Projected RIT for each teacher. I sorted teachers by their performance and presented it to the admin team (see Appendix B for more information on the teacher performance). I also prepared projected proficiency report ... • 8. Freire's Problem-Posing Method 1.Freire's essay provides some powerful points about the classroom situation with the teacher and the student. Throughout my whole high school year, I have had few teachers, who cared about getting through the day and following their schedule of what the scholars are supposed to be learning. As students arrive in the class, the teacher has the book number already on the board and expect us to read the book, answer the questions and expect you to understand it. A prime example would be a math class, the teacher would only show way of getting to a solution, and on the check and quizzes if a student arrives at the answer using a different system, the student would be penalized. According to Freire,Education thus becomes an act of depositing, in which the scholars are the depositories and the teacher is the depositor, which they refers to as the Banking idea. However, "Problem–posing" classes would be very different. The teachers would be very open minded, flexible and they would permit for class discussions and questions regarding what was taught. • 15. Flippedped Classroom For as long as many of us can remember, teachers in classrooms would be found lecturing next to the chalkboard with a piece of chalk in hand. In a time when Smart Boards did not exist, when schools only had a few desktop computers, when most teachers were not even adept at using technology, chalkboards were the norm. After the teacher introduced or reviewed a concept in class, students were sent home with a worksheet of practice problems they were expected to complete at home. In 2018, however, the traditional methods of delivering information to students are outdated. Children today grow up never knowing a world without smartphones, tablets, or computers. In this everchanging, fast–paced world, it is vital that educators adapt to the needs of today's students and find ways to deliver information that will hold their attention. One of the most effective ways of teaching math to today's youth is through the use of technology in flipped classrooms. In a "flipped" classroom, students are introduced to new topics by watching assigned instructional videos at home. Class time is then reserved for practice, collaborative projects, and more meaningful discourse. In this way, the traditional means of teaching is flipped; instead of learning new concepts in class and then doing practice problems at... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 16. The Impact Of Technology On A Student 's Ability I. BACKGROUND The implementation of technology in the classroom is a pressing topic in education. There are both positive and negative arguments when discussing the impact of technology on a student's ability to learn. Three parties play a role in the success of technology in the classroom, including the teacher, student, and parent. Along with the introduction of technology comes new terms that must be understood. II. TERMS Four terms are commonly mentioned when discussing the implementation of technology in the classroom. A classroom that has transferred from the traditional teaching model to a virtual classroom conducted via video is known as a flipped classroom. Lessons are sent to students using resources such as email, Dropbox, and YouTube, which leaves classroom time available for other activities like personalized instruction. This leads to a second term known as personalized learning, which refers to the use of technology to cater to a student's particular needs. Apps can be used to assess if a student is understanding the material and allows a student to move as quickly or as slowly through the material to ensure their comprehension. The way in which a student learns the best can also be identified. The amount of time that students use devices such as tablets, phones, and laptops is referred to as screen time. Students also have access to programs and extracurricular activities referred to under the acronyms: STEM, STEAM, and STREAM. STEM stands for Science, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the construct, disposition, in teacher education may be redundant now, it is not entirely inadequate as it may provide a pilot hypothesis for further investigations (Murray, 2007; Windschitl, 2003). The implications from the previous studies provide the groundwork for exploring teacher dispositions. In order to effectively investigate this, a definition for dispositions by our governing bodies must be identified. "NCATE now defines Professional Dispositions as: Professional attitudes, values, and beliefs demonstrated through both verbal and non–verbal behaviors as educators interact with students, families, colleagues, and communities. These positive behaviors support student learning and development" (2007). Institutions take their own stab at defining dispositions in many ways. The National Association for the Education of Young Children states in order to enact and examine surface disposition: "All teaching staff evaluates and improve their own performance based on ongoing reflection and feedback from supervisors, peers and families. They add to their knowledge and increase their ability to put knowledge into practice. They develop an Disposition & Early Childhood Teachers 5 annual individualized professional development plan with their supervisor and use it to inform their continuous professional development". The

  • 19. Transition And Secondary School Secondary Schools For the majority of young people, transitions or transfers generally occur between nursery and primary school, primary school and secondary school, and from secondary school to higher education and/or work (Topping, 2011). Sometimes this change is known as transition, sometimes as transfer but for the purpose of this study we will use the term transition. Transition can be defined as a passage or change from one stage to another. At around the age of 11, pupils' are required to make that change from primary to secondary school. This typically involves a change of school location, meeting and forming relationships with new peers, learning to organise and meet deadlines and responding to a number of teachers for different subject areas. Secondary schools tend to be much larger than primary schools and pupils are often required to move from one location to another for their classes. At the same time, they need to arrive to each class on time. With this is mind, it is important for the pupils' to learn what organisation involves to meet the timetable requirements. These challenges are different to those in primary school were pupils' spend the majority of their day in the same classroom setting with the same teacher and same peer groups (Coffey, 2013). In contrast tosecondary school, all of their personal belongings are located in this one classroom. пїј2 пїјDespite the many obstacles that pupils' face, there is much to look forward to. • 20. Positive Implications Of Teacher Attrition Summary It is no secret that teacher attrition or teacher turnover, as it is known in the article by Ronfeldt, Loeb, and Wyckoff, is a major problem for the United States and it has lasting effects on schools and the individuals in those schools (Ronfeldt, Loeb, & Wyckoff, 2012, p. 5). The authors continue with the idea that most research done on teacher turnover has correlated it with negative effects and this is one of the reasons for this research article because few papers and researchers have tried to objectively determine if the effects are beneficial rather than just assuming that most teacher turnover if not all is negative and has a harmful effect on schools (Ronfeldt, Loeb, & Wyckoff, 2012, p. 5). The effects of teacher turnover can be many and two words that come up often in this article are compositional explanations which are explanations that help deduce the total effects of the teacher's quality and effectiveness on student achievement; in simpler terms, compositional explanations are basically the team of teachers that are already at the school so their skills and quality will strong indicators of student achievement, but are far and away from the only factors (Ronfeldt, Loeb, & Wyckoff, 2012, pp. 5–6). Examples of the negative and positive implications these explanations will influence student achievement are varied, but a couple examples are: the revolving door of schools with poor teacher performance and/or low student achievement and the supply and ... • 23. Corporal Punishment And Its Usage Introduction The topic of whether or not parents and teachers should use corporal punishment in the name of discipline had caught my eye for several reasons. One of the most important reasons is that I was beaten by a wooden paddle while I was growing up. I was about 12 years of age when my teacher beats all of my classmates including me just because one of us was misbehaving. That was in Baghdad, Iraq, where teachers and parents are allowed to use corporal punishment freely without any fear. Another reason is that I was born in a Catholic well–educated family that showed me what love and respect actually is. Hence, my parents didn't accept what that teacher did and went to tell on her. They thought that a teacher should never do any kind of physical harm to their children, even if they used to do so. Therefore, I chose this topic to read more about corporal punishment and its usage in the United States. The key terms that are important in this paper are defined to give a full understanding of the issue. The term corporal punishment is defined as "the act of disciplining a child through physical means" ("Corporal Punishment", 2006, p.1). However, there is a legal definition that most states use, which says, "Parents are allowed to use reasonable force in physically disciplining their children" ("Corporal Punishment", 2006, p.3). Later on, I will also talk about the effective ways of disciplining a child that is nonphysical methods. One of them is "timeouts" which is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Preschool Programs And The Universal Preschool Preschool programs are designed specifically to make sure that children are ready for kindergarten and will be able to succeed in school by third grade. All preschool programs have three characteristics in common. They are governed by high program standards, are open to 3 and 4 year–olds, and focus on school readiness. The term universal preschool means that preschool programs are available to any child in a given state, regardless of family income, children's abilities, or any other factors (Colker). Like Kindergarten in most states, the concept of the Universal Preschool Movement is to have a voluntary program, unlike compulsory elementary. Universal preschool would make preschool programs available to any child in a given state, regardless of family income, children's abilities, or other factors. Several states are on the path to funding universal preschool currently. Some states have preschool programs that are not universal and have targeted audiences, either children from families with low incomes or children from families with various risk factors that could affect their learning. In Arkansas, for example, in addition to family income level, eligibility is based on children having risk factors including placement in foster care, a parent on active military duty, or family violence (Arkansas DHS). Many states have similar programs intended to help high risk children attend preschool. Universal preschool would give every family the opportunity to send their children to ... There have been several publications written on the topic of teaching styles and sifting through all the information can be tedious. The first, and most obvious, place to start would be to discuss a little about how learning occurs. The brain is a complex organ that scientists are still studying. Much has been learned about the brain, but much more needs to be researched. One thing that has been studied a great deal is memory and how it works. All human beings use their memory to learn. Information that has been learned was processed in the short–term memory and stored in the long–term memory. We retrieve the information through recall, recognition, and encoding specificity. Recall is a simple retrieval of information. Recognition involves a set of "pre–generated stimuli presented to learners for a decision or judgment" (Driscoll, 2000). For example, when one hears the words "Oh say can you see..." one automatically recognizes it as the opening line to the national anthem. The encoding specificity principle states that whatever cues are to facilitate encoding will also serve as the best retrieval cues for remembering (Driscoll, 2000). For example, wearing the same clothes to take a test as when studying for the test will increase the likelihood of recalling the information ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

University of Manchester Polychroni, F.University of WalesAthens Campus Walters, B.University of Manchester Abstract According to recent international research, Special Educational Needs (SEN) teachers serve one of the most stressful occupations. Special working conditions such as the high ratio of teachers and pupils, the limited progress due to the various problems of the pupils with special needs and the high workload exert an additional psychological pressure on the personality and the work performance of SEN teachers. Examples include excessive paperwork requirements, increasing caseloads, low salaries, lack of administrative support, challenging student behaviours and lack of visible student progress (Cooley & Yovanoff, 1996). Teachers' stress and especially the SEN teachers' stress is likely to include medium or low levels of job satisfaction and high levels of turnover. Three measures have been widely employed as response correlates or indices of occupational stress generally: job satisfaction, absenteism and intention to leave (Kyriacou and Sutcliffe, 1979). In a study carried out in 1996, it has been found that 80% of the headteachers of special schools of the sample, believed that the teaching profession was a very stressful occupation and more than 50% of the sample did not plan to continue this occupation in the future (Male & May, 1997). American studies have demonstrated the critical staff shortages in specialeducation, due to declining enrollments in special education teacher preparation programmes in effect reducing the available supply of new teachers (Cooley & Yovanoff, 1996). On the other hand, the growing demand for special educators owing to the increasing population of children who require special educational needs services, contributes to the problem of the short supply. • 31. Describe 2-3 Strategies For Preventing Bullying In Schools 1. How are bias and bullying related? Bias and bullying are directly related. Most bullies have prejudice or are bias towards a subject matter. For example, if a certain individual believes males are the dominate gender, then it will be easy for that male to bully females. To end bullying means to end bias, because generally the two are connected. 2. Describe 2–3 strategies for preventing bullying in schools. Which do you think is most effective? There are many strategies to discourage and prevent bullying. The three suggestions that stuck out to me the most were giving a bullying quiz, mixing up a lunch day, and watching a movie. Mixing up a lunch day refers to the idea of encouraging students to step out of their comfort zones and to sit with new students. This generates a friendly environment which helps stop early clichГ©s from forming. The third idea is watching the movie, "Bullied." The movie illustrates the perspective of bullying by the person being bullied and the negative effects that bullying causes. The theme of the movie is to end bullying and to encourage students to care for their fellow classmates. As a beginning professional teacher, it is advantageous to know the legal bases of education and the programs and projects of the department. It must also be clarified about the rights, responsibilities, and accountabilities as a teacher. It is important that the beginning teacher must internalize their roles, rights, obligations, and accountability that must be performed as a professional teacher. The results of the consultations further validated the findings of the Third Elementary Education Project (TEEP) that induction programs were conducted in the division and school levels but there was a need to "systematize, structure and organize" 3 the program for teachers with 0–3 years experience. Related studies reviewed by the Council reinforced the need for a structured teacher support. There was the consensus that the beginning teacher should not develop a "curve of disenchantment" especially in their first three years of teaching. In an interview of 20 teachers in a small public high school in Cavite City, the researcher found out that none of them have a formal induction when they first started to work in the school. They all found out their rights, responsibilities, expected tasks, the history of the organization and many more by hearsays or stories of their fellow employees which sometimes brought them confusion, anxiety stress, and worst burn–out. The situation might have caused teachers to think of quitting their jobs and find other careers somewhere else. The major thrust of this study was to identify the relationship of the induction program to the performance and morale of teachers in DepEd, Cavite City. The findings of this study will ... • 35. The Role Of Servant Leadership And Positive Organizational... momentum among scholars and practitioners in the past 20 years (Sendjaya & Sarros, 2002). Twenty–first century scholars presented the servant leader as one moving beyond being transformational. These servant leaders possess the intent of transforming those served to grow personally and professionally, become more autonomous, and increase the likelihood of becoming servants themselves (Spears & Lawrence, 2004). Studies have shown a relationship between implementing principles of servant leadership and positive organizational climate (Ehrhart, 2004; Hunt, 2002; McCowan, 2004). In Good to Great, Jim Collins (2001) describes the highest level of leadership as a Level 5 leader, who is a servant leader. Collins also contends the companies that evolved from good to great had Level 5 leaders and that the transformational power of the servant leader and the effect that he/she has on a group of employees and colleagues to lift an organization from mediocrity to greatness is astounding. Greenleaf (2002) defined servant leadership as leaders who are servant leaders who aspire to serve first, and then choose to lead. Greenleaf identified some common servant leadership characteristics as being love, humility, altruism, vision, trust, empower and service. Shaw & Newton (2014) made a statement that the practice of servant leadership in schools could have a similar impact, particularly as it relates to teacher satisfaction and retention. As the learner has become the center of the foreign language teaching, autonomy has been attributed to the learner as one of the essential capabilities that a learner should have. Learners are the ones who are in charge of learning. To motivate learners inlanguage education can happen only if the learners can learn on their own as well as the cooperation with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without institutionalised teaching, a human being can learn many issues through his/her life. Children may learn through observing or experiencing other children, adults or their parents. Without forcing someone to learn something, a person can learn so many things in life if s/he wants to learn. The term 'autonomy' starts to be used within language teaching due to those innovations in foreign language teaching. Learner autonomy, in its broadest sense, puts the learner at the focal point of all attention and it endows him/her with responsibility for his/her actions. Each student can learn himself/herself. No one can learn anything for somebody else. Thus, each learner should have the responsibility for his/her learning if s/he really wants to learn. For the last three decades the significance of autonomy in language teaching has been discussed a lot. However, 'autonomy' may be confused in terms of its definitions, its characteristics and its implementetation in teaching/learning process with so many other terms. There has been many attempts to relate autonomy with self–access learning, individualized learning or self–directed learning etc. Autonomy should not be misinterpreted by relating it through other concepts that put the learner into foreground in language teaching/learning process or as for its implementation it should not be applied as the learning without a teacher or learning outside ... The Effectiveness of Mobile Computing Devices in Classroom Instruction Most schools, both local and international, are now venturing into using mobile computing devices for classroom instruction. Thus, La Salle Green Hills (LSGH) pioneered the use of tablets in the classrooms at the later part of 2012 and named this endeavor as the PERsonal Learning device (PEARL) program. During its initial stage, students of the honors classes were selected as its participants. On the following year around eight to nine sections in the High School level opted to join the said program. However, during the course of the said program implementation, certain issues have been raised that needed to be addressed by the school especially in the area of student learning. Based on a study made by a group of LSGH High School teachers last February 2014 on the effectiveness of using tablets in Grade 10 English classes, it has been observed that there is no distinct difference between the non–tablet and tablet classes in terms of student performance. This may be attributed to the following: 1). there is no definite strategic plan made except for the roadmap on how the PEARL program will be implemented. 2). the infrastructure set–up was not carefully taken into consideration. 3). teachers have not been given enough training prior to its implementation. 4). the policies and guidelines drafted on the students' use of tablets were vague or lacking in terms of giving sanctions to erring students. ... • 38. The Practice Of Questioning Within Formative Assessment 1. Introduction With recent changes and reform to primary education assessment and removal of standard levels, assessment is the subject of great discussion in education. In this assignment I will be investigating the practice of questioning within formative assessment; the theory behind it, strategies and evidence I have seen in the autumn term of my 'Home' placement. I have chosen to investigate this aspect of formative assessment in mathematics, as this is the subject in which I have had most teaching practice and opportunities to formatively assess children's progress and implement Assessment for Learning. It has also been an area I have found challenging, in particular how to question children to promote higher order thinking in mathematics, a subject that many children find challenging. Andrew Pollard (2014) suggests in his book of reflective teaching to take elements of teaching from the classroom that you think will work for you. He explains three elements underpin teaching; craft, science and creativity. Throughout my first term of placement and the research and literature I have submerged myself in, I have come to appreciate the context he means these three areas in and how they are all interwoven to develop a personal pedagogy. In this assignment I will reflect upon the literature I have digested and explain the strategies and philosophies I have taken from leading educational academics and their research to develop my own approach to primary mathematics ... Chapter Two: Investigating the Possibility of Integrating Critical Thinking in English Language Teaching Introduction Montaigne views that "saying is one thing; doing is another thing" (qtd. in Robson 191). This insinuates that what one says might be different from what s/he does, hence the necessity when enquiring about the possibility of integrating critical thinking in English Language Teaching. This chapter is devoted to the investigation of the hypothesis of the study, whether critical thinking could be incorporated in English Language Teaching. This chapter is undertaken with this spirit, we will start our investigation by introducing the population of the study. Then, we describe, analyze and interpret the questionnaires results. It will help us confirm or disconfirm our hypotheses about possible correlation between critical thinking and language teaching. We provide two sections, first, we deal with the students' questionnaire followed by its analysis, and then, we will move to do the same with teachers' questionnaire. 2.1.Methodology 2.1.1.Hypothesis It is worth to reiterate our research hypothesis: Incorporating the teaching of critical thinking skills may enhance EFL students' mastery of the field, and raise their awareness about their own learning, thereby, they become autonomous. 2.1.2.Population What is worth being mentioned is that the reason behind opting for master students to be the case of our study is their level of mastery ... It is very important for the students not to lose touch with what comes as novel information. Assigning homework tasks where learners will supposedly use the new words is not sufficient because not all of the learners do homework regularly. Thus, the teacher should begin each new lesson with a small retrospection of what was covered in class before and engage all the students in this activity, which can be turned into a game. This technique is also known as "schemata activation". 4. Motivate students to spend more time exposed to the target language. The best and the only way for learners to use vocabulary correctly is to be exposed to the foreign language. Ideally, students would achieve the native–like pronunciation and accuracy the best if they live in the target language country. Yet, we know that this situation is not always possible, so we as future teachers should inform students of the all the possibilities that would easily enable them to get in touch with the foreign language. Apart from watching movies and reading books, one very useful activity is to transcribe TV news on paper and present them in class. By doing this, students encounter many new words in their real–life context and by presenting them, they will memorize the words better. The United States spends such a small amount of time improving and updating their education system which molds the minds of their future generations. The reason why a neighborhood is dangerous, dirty and rundown is because schools are not educating the children in that area effectively. There are three main flaws with our current school system, and the first is that children who face more challenges academically are alienated and categorized as a lost cause. The second issue is that the world is changing but school systems have stayed the same. Finally, the third problem is that teachers do not get timely feedback or get properly evaluated on the progress they make as a teacher. One of the problems is that students who are having trouble in school are not getting the attention and help they need. For generations, the failure of American education has been pushed aside and ignored because people refused to believe that there was a problem.[2] This society has a tendency to isolate the children who see no point in going to school. We, as a society, wait to watch their future crumble instead of inspiring them to get back on track. Once we begin to categorize them as "hopeless", we start to give up on more children that need help, and the numbers will continue to rise. The No Child Left Behind program is not sufficient in bringing all students up to standard. One of the reasons for this is the misallocation on education funding. In 2014, the allocated federal funding for education was roughly 1% of the total federal budget.[3] In order to have education reform, we must create more relevant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
