Personal Power Research Paper
Sources of Power in my Life
Experience is a key to knowledge. It is a type of power one can simply acquire by observing,
encountering, or either undergoing an event. It is a type of power that I have used throughout my
life. Expert power. The process of experiencing is when one obtains a skill or a piece of knowledge
from an event in their life which can later be utilized in their life. As we gain experience, we
become experts in a specific role to which we can help others meet their goals. Experience doesn 't
just mean being someone for an extended period of time, it could mean having to go through
struggles in their life or just by making a small mistake that they have been through already.
Experience is something that we all have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have freedom of speech so therefore, we have the rights to fight for ourselves using personal
power. We handle our emotions and feelings through emotional intelligence that we develop as we
grow up. As a matter of fact, this type of power is actually more innovative than other forms of
power because it comes from our own energy. People use personal power as an advantage such as
possessing good traits and characteristics to influence and lead others and gain their trust. For
example, we would want to vote for a president who has the most personal power. This power is a
combination of coercive and empowerment. It 's empowerment because it comes from our own
energy and coercive because we have the ability to persuade others using personal power.
Comparatively, positional power also has a great significance use in our daily lives. Police officers,
lawyers, teachers, parents, managers and even just a normal person has some sort of positional
power. This common power is specified as having authority and influence over another person. A
person with positional power is coercive, which means they have power over others. For example,
parents can make their children do something that they don 't want to do since the child wouldn 't
have any choice. A police officer can also use their title as an advantage to have authority over us
which means if we disobey them, there will be consequences, simply because of their positional
power. The difference

Personal Narrative: My Near Death Experience
I have never had a near death experience. I know that many people my age haven't, though they
claim that they did. I've always wondered what one would be like and hearing stories in class about
them made me feel so excited. It also made me feel that I would never put myself in a situation
where I was in danger. It made me think about if I ever had an experience what it would be about.
This is some of my basic thoughts about near death experiences.
I got excited about the near death stories because sometimes they have twists or they have
electrifying details that add to the suspense. When you sit on the sidelines it doesn't seem as scary,
and it almost looks appealing. The story about going down a water slide and running into an
overweight woman seemed hilarious at the time, but if I was in the situation I wouldn't know how to
act. It is the whole "Every rose has its thorns." That is something that I will probably have to learn
the hard way because I'm stubborn and I don't like people telling me what I can and can't do. My
only hope is that I don't hurt someone else while doing it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I believe that I am a very responsible person, so something like that ever happening to me seems
impossible. The story about the man who fell asleep at the wheel and almost ran head on into a car
doesn't seem like something that would happen to me, but I know one day I will think that I can
make it home and not have to stop and that day I fall asleep at the wheel. I would hope that I would
stop the situation from occurring, but there is a chance that I will overestimate my skill

Personal Experience And My Experience
Being a first–time freshman is exciting and intimidating at the same time, for me it is higher than
the average because I do not usually adventure beyond the set path. This is why I appreciate my
friends, who are thrill seekers and tag me along with them. At the California State University of
Bakersfield, I have found the freedom to break away from the set path by following the trail on an
Outdoor Adventure and experiencing the Piedra Blanca Formation Hike. My friend Ana* had
invited me to accompany her on this hike because of the accessibility of the trip. The trip was priced
ten dollars which is a bargain compared to the amazing excursion my friends and I were on. *(I am
changing my friend's name for their privacy) This trip included the transportation from the
University to the Piedra Blanca Formation, and lunch. The day of the trip I was feeling sick and I
did consider canceling but I decided I was not feeling too sick and the fresh air would help. I was
waiting for my friend Ana and as she picked me up she invited me to grab a special Starbucks drink
called the medicine ball, it is a mix of different herbal teas, which surprisingly did help me feel
better. We arrive at the university parking lot and there are around ten other people ready to head out
and we are all adrenalized and nervous to go on the trip. My friend Ana and I were preparing our
snacks to head out and as we are boarding the van we meet the two other passengers, who were the
trip leaders. Both were

Not In Touch With Personal Power
It doesn't take much effort to notice that some people are more empowered than others. But while it
may appear that empowered people have something empowered people don't, inherently we all have
the same power.
The defining factor is that some people are in touch with and connected to this power and some
people are not.
Reasons
And there are many reasons as to why someone is or is not in touch with their personal power. This
can relate to: the kind of childhood one has experienced; how one responded to their childhood; the
friends that one has and the people they have come across; how resilient one is and many other
factors.
There is also the social aspect here and how mainstream society's often discourage ones personal
power and actively foster dependence on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One can then end up being caught up in their feelings or thoughts and react to them. And how they
behave will then depend on these internal aspects and not conscious decisions.
Consequences
When this sense of personal power hasn't been realised it can lead to all kinds of consequences. The
desire to control others is one of these consequences and one of the more common examples.
Another thing that can happen is the idealisation and elevation of other people. To admire another
human being and to respect their achievements is one thing. It is another to see someone else as
being superior and as having something that one does not have themselves. When this takes place,
one is giving their own power away and denying what they have within them.
Certain societal figures can then feed on this power that is being given to them by people. This can
explain how authority figures, such as those in the political arena, often have so much power; it's
because so many people have renounced their own.

Personal Narrative: My Experiences In High School
People can face many challenges in life from good to bad and it is the way in which one chooses to
overcome them that they can succeed. I have had a challenge in school that I needed to work on in
order to overcome the barrier. I have not always been the best but also not the worst in my classes
academically speaking. I have faced times in which I struggled in certain courses specifically in my
math classes. I am not the math type of guy, I have always found numbers and everything math
related not interesting to me at all.
Throughout high school Geometry and Algebra 2 have been the courses in which I have found
myself struggling the most. Knowing that I needed to pass those classes in order to graduate I would

College And Personal Experience : My Experience In College
College, from what I heard from people say, is a time that you would not forget. From coming from
such a far away place I did not really know what to expect. I was expecting some changes, but not
the changes that I experienced over the past semester. I have changed as a person with greater
openness of others' ideas and topics. I have changed with more independent from my parents and I
have changed with more knowing of determining who I want to be, and I have changed by being
more understanding that a person has to ask questions or otherwise, when in doubt people will not
communicate with you. This past semester has been a time of self growth, which in turn has caused
me to be a much different person that I had started out with.
There were multiple times where I saw and heard other people's experiences and ideas. One of these
times was in our Perspectives class, because of the many discussions from the class, as a whole, and
of the specialty group focusing on political ideology. I changed with the moderation of views
regarding economic policies, however, I am still fervent on my current views on social issues.
Another time I have broadened my outlook is when I normally walk around with some friends and
then they occasionally they open up about themselves. Prior to SU, I felt there was no person out
there who had experienced or understood what I had to deal with my mother and my secluded life.
Every person in SU that I have met had something with them that had a direct

Personal Narrative Experience : A Personal Experience
The night before I thought about just saying I went to a meeting and watching one on Youtube. This
idea gave me more anxiety than actually going. I set my alarm for 6am to make it to the 7am–8am
meeting at Narragansett Town Beach. My friend was over the night before and he also grew up in
Narragansett and lived here for 30 years as well. He gave me worst anxiety, talking about I am
going to see all the "townies", teachers and neighbors. This made me extremely nervous, but it is the
only time I can get to a meeting this week that 10 mins down the street. I woke up before my alarm
with the felling of someone sitting on my chest and vomit sitting in my throat. I was having a panic
attack before I even got up. I sat in my car for a few minutes before talking the hardest step;
Walking through the doors. I immediately felt discouragement, when their was no meeting going on.
I later found out the meeting was at chair one at the town beach and probably was canceled because
of the rain. I ended up going to a meeting Saturday morning at the St. Augustine church down in
campus before work at 10am. It made me feel more comfortable to go to one on school campus,
assuming everyone would think that I was from the school. I sat in the back of the small church,
watching everyone exchanges hugs and pour themselve a cups of coffee. Sticking out like a snore
them, everyone glanced at me with a welcoming vibe. The meeting commenced with two ladies
sitting in front of all of us, announcing other meetings going on around town. A guest speaking
started the meeting. It immediately surprised when she said that she has been clean since 1986 and
stopped when she was twenty–two years old. She used the terminology of minimizing and denial
during her story. She explained that she never thought that she was an alcoholic. She did not feel
like she gave in willingly but instead she felt that she was captured by her family and forced. The
speaker told herself that tomorrow she would stop but tomorrow never came. She smashed up
companies cars and lost a few jobs in Las Vegas and Miami. She banged for money and even
people's canio chips. When she did not get the chips she thought, "man those are people are cheap".
She explained to everyone

The Work Of Belbin And My Personal Experiences
The work of Belbin and my personal experiences
The Financial Post (2015) stated teamwork is key to success; this is true in the context of building
careers as at some point you will have to work in a team, which is sometimes challenging. Steve
Jobs also believed in the importance of teamwork "Great things in business are never done by one
person they're done by a team of people." (BusinessNewsDaily, 2013). There are many different
aspects of teamwork for example; skills, team conflict and group size. This essay reflects on my
personal experiences of working in a team. First I will talk about the literature of Belbin, describing
key elements about teamwork. Then I will assess how accurately the literature reflects my
experiences of teamwork. Lastly, I will look at what I have learned from the experience, by putting
the literature and my experiences into context. I have various experiences in team projects, which I
will be relating to the project that I recently took part in regarding leadership.
Belbin's 1993 book concludes that an effective team has members covering all 9 key roles. It is
beneficial to have a dynamic team that contributes a wide range of skills, whereby people will be
appointed on the basis of their functional roles as and when their skills would be needed (Belbin,
1993). Managing team conflict is also important as Belbin, (2002) argues that if a team were to
reach mutual grounds on each member's goals prior to starting tasks this would ensure the

My Personal Experience : My Journey To College
I came to college to explore the world and learn more about myself. In a small town, there's never
much to do. In the country surrounded by corn fields there's even less. As a little girl college had
always been the dream. For the obvious reasons of getting a good education, finding a job, and
making money. As I matured my reasons for attending college became more complex. Things at
home were never very good and most of time I usually found myself held prisoner in the house.
Exploring the world and learning new things had always been my passion. But, as time went on I
began to lose my purpose in life. I soon realized that college could help me find that purpose that I
was searching for. Growing up I was always one of those weird kids that ... Show more content on

It had always been my dream to travel all over the world instead of staying in the same one street
town all of my life. I knew that college would bring me on step closer to that dream. Since coming
to Upper Iowa University I've looked into all of the possible chances to study abroad. Along with
traveling I've always loved to try new things from food to new activities. Being at college there has
already been so many opportunities that I never would have gotten the chance to do. Here I'm able
to go out and socialize with new people every day. I probably would have never gotten the chance to
play laser tag or go paintballing. I am surrounded by people from different cultures, who were raised
in all different raise. People here think in ways and ideas that I never would have thought of. Even
though while I'm in college I still have a routine everyday isn't the same for me. In my home town,
it was the same thing day after day. I would wake up, go to school, then go back home just to start
all over again. I began to get lost in my conventional, everyday life. I couldn't see the meaning in
my life anymore. It felt as if I was a robot just going through the motions that someone had laid out
for me. Getting stuck in the same routine day to day made it feel as if I was losing my purpose in
life. All I did everyday was go to school and then go back home and do homework. I was giving no
actual contribution to the world.

Personal Experience : My Experience
Although I was raised in a globally aware family of travelers, nothing could have prepared me for
the experience of living in another country with an unfamiliar culture. The idea that I would be
separated from everything I knew and dropped into a new way of life was not unfamiliar to me,
however, as I had been raised with the expectation that I would one day become an exchange
student like my mother had. Both of my parents had travelled their share of the world before getting
married, and understood and instilled in me the importance of understanding other cultures. They
also made a point to incorporate aspects of other countries in our daily lives and bring me along on
business trips overseas before I can even remember. Travelling abroad alone at the age of 16 was an
incredible experience, and one that will forever impact the way that I look at the world. Despite my
upbringing, I still had been impacted by the culture of America, which although containing people
from all around the world still contains some extensive pride and cultural superiority. Being in a
different environment surrounded by people who were all raised differently than myself and who in
general thought differently awakened me to my previously closeminded view of the world. I had to
think differently there, and be more aware of my actions in fear of making a mistake, despite
constant reassurance that I was allowed to mess up.

Personal Essay : My Personal Experience, And Passion For...
My guiding question was formed from my personal experience and passion regarding sports.
Throughout my youth years leading into my senior year of high school, I have played the sports of
football, basketball, soccer, baseball, and wrestling as well. I had gone through countless failures,
successes, and experiences that have altered my character and identity, contributing to the person I
am today. Failures notably consist of playing poorly during a game, leading to letting my teammates
down or failing to win a wrestling match. Successes notably included winning football games,
making a great play or and winning a wrestling tournament. With those successes and failures, came
with experiences that shaped me to become resilient and wiser in life. Coaches and teammates that I
have played with and for, have taught and guided me to become a better athlete and student than I
was before. I was very fortunate in my life to be named the captain of my wrestling and football
teams, and a coach/mentor for my town's youth football and wrestling programs as well. My
perspective is vast, from actually playing in countless games on the court, field, to looking from the
outside as a coach or part of the crowd. Upon high school graduation, my tenure of playing sports
came to an end, which gave me an opportunity to reflect on my character in the past, to the present.
At this point in my life, I can fully understand how sports have positively influenced me through all
aspects of my life.

Transitioning from a teacher in training to a student was possibly one of the hardest things I have
done. I really struggled with keeping my mouth closed when a child was not behaving. In my math
class, I noticed that though there wasn't a lot of physical activity most of the other students were
eager to participate. My math teacher kept us engaged by having us walk through the homework and
constantly walking around. Because she had the students walk through each of the problems, it was
easy to follow as a student. When anyone had a question she would have us walk her through what
we did and find the discrepancy. My teachers flow was smooth and she made sure we understood
her expectations for the Unit One math exam. It has been a while since I took a math test, and so
when she handed out the Unit One test I felt a clench at the pit of my stomach. As I moved through
my exam, I felt fatigue and starvation overcome me. It was early in the morning, but by the end of
the test I was exhausted and hungry. I can only imagine what some of my other students were
feeling, especially if they had missed breakfast or did not get enough sleep. And even after, I felt the
fatigue because we were only able to head to the bathroom before heading back to the class for our
guidance counselors lesson on careers.
As I observed and experienced recess, I saw that most of our students take this time to talk to their
friends instead of playing or running. They enjoy walking around and

Personal Experience: Lessons Learned From Hurricane Katrina
We all have our problems in life, whether it's lack of friends, food, or even money. That's one thing
that makes us all similar. We're all struggling in some way or another. What's important is that us
human beings are all here to help each other. That makes handling our problems much easier, right?
Wrong. It may seem trivial, but my crisis is identity. I don't know which clothes to wear, when to
wear them, or how my actions should reflect on my group of friends. I know that I have people
around me who can provide help, but what's the point of even asking? If there are young children
dying of hunger in some countries, my problem is nothing. "They are always around, and they are
always here to help," the television echoes back at me, as if answering my question. "If you happen
to get caught in this storm, try your best to find the closest wood shop center. There are quite a few
in the Couturie Forest." It was the news reporter warning everyone about a storm. Apparently, it's
supposed to be Louisiana's worst nightmare. "...It'll be strong," he continues. "With winds at around
seventy–four miles per hour, this storm will have breezes of the average hurricane. We definitely

Because of the move, I've landed in the position I'm in now. Out of all the students I could've

Personal Narrative: A Near Death Experience
Surviving a near death experience can have a lasting impression on an individual. The sheer
unpredictability of the event as well as the immediate danger that is presented in front of the person
are two. Unfortunately, as a nine–year old, I had an unexpected encounter with a Rottweiler dog as I
was coming home from school on a rainy day. It was an experience that made me change my
outlook on life and how I perceived danger in general.
I could recall my near death experience as if it were yesterday. It was a very bleak Thursday
afternoon as the sun was completely obstructed by the formation of dark clouds. The forecast for
that day was predicted to be heavy showers which was surprisingly accurate considering that the

Some people hypothesize the reason of surviving a near death experience as a stroke of blind luck,
while others view it as a sign of being given a second chance at life. However, I have another
explanation which is rather out of the ordinary. When my great aunt passed from cancer, which was
two years before the incident, my mother told me that she would watch over me even when I was
not around in person. Ever since her death, my family and I would always pay a visit to the
Buddhist temple every Chinese New Year to pay her respect.
Having been a part of these Buddhist customs for most of my childhood, I was taught that the dead
do not actually pass away but instead ascend into a higher place, similar to heaven. Although the
incident with the dog was the only near–death experience, I was able to overcome tough obstacles
such as passing my driver's test at the D.M.V with a low success rate. Taking the miraculous
outcome of my incident to account, I still wonder if what my mother had originally said was true
and if the supernatural do exist. Needless I am very thankful of my

My Personal Experience
Although we've all experienced any degree of disappointments in our lives, there are a select few
that tend to stick with us. They act as assets in our lives, tools to use help us grow. The way a person
deals with disappointment speaks volume about who someone is. Personally, I am the kind of
person who likes to have constants in my life; commodities that won't change and those that I can
depend on when everything else is unstable. When I was in my second year of middle school, one of
my biggest constants was my band director, Ms. Palmer. The way my school district operated, all

This shattered all confidence I had for going to high school, all hope for comfort I previously had.
All of a sudden, my main constant dissolved. The only thing that I had going for me, the safety net
in my life ceased to provide comfort. From this event, I feel that I learned a great deal about how I
personally coped with disappointment and major changes in my life. After tears had been shed and
the questions were answered, I had an opportunity to develop and to mature from this. After
adequate contemplation, I realized that it wasn't the best idea to depend on other people so deeply.
In my youth, I had been raised and taught how to be independent and to care for myself, making
sure that I could give myself all I needed to become successful. This loss of someone turned out to
be invaluably important in my life and further reinforced my idea that the only person you should
depend on is yourself. Though this sounds grim, I am able to attribute much of my success to my
personal independence. I've learned how to set goals for myself, how to motivate myself to try and
rise above negative situations and develop from them. Ms. Palmer leaving sparked my first internal
revision that has thus led to a personal reflection resulting in the mindset I possess now. Several
years later, I have the ability to reflect upon myself in a more timely and constructive manner.
Looking at situations like these in a useful light, disappointments are a fantastic

My family and I just arrived at Dunroamin Park in Caledonia, Minnesota. We attend our annual
family reunion campout here every year. My siblings and I went straight to the pool after we
finished setting up the camper. I was playing in the pool with a bunch of my cousins and having a
good time when my older brother tapped me on the shoulder. "Do you want to go to the arcade with
me and some of our cousins?" he asked. I jumped out of the water in one swift move. "Yes!" I

give me a piggyback ride?" I asked my brother. Reluctantly he agreed and I hopped on to his back.
We proceeded out of pool gate and back down the hill to our campsite. We met up with our sister

The Real Life Example Of Shared Knowledge And Personal...
How do you gain shared knowledge? Let us take a cake for example; the cake is made up of many
different ingredients. A recipe may be said to be knowledge because it tells you how to make the
cake step by step. Looking at this shared knowledge shapes your personal knowledge and next time
you might not need the recipe because the recipe would be part of your own personal knowledge. If
shared knowledge is knowledge that has been received from people or sources around you then
personal knowledge is knowledge that is gained directly through firsthand experience or observation
.
Shared knowledge usually shapes personal knowledge. Even when an inexperienced cook has a
recipe, they might still not be able to make a good cake. Looking at this example we can see that the
shared knowledge being the recipe can shape the personal knowledge of both the cooks and because
the experienced cook has more personal knowledge, he is able to come up with a better cake than
the inexperienced cook.
Let use an example from cooking to illustrate how shared knowledge can shape personal knwledge.

"Last Night" Versus "Seniors" What does love have to do with sex? Sex is always considered a
taboo and controversial topic, whereas most think they know something about love, and they're
more than willing to give others "unwanted" free advice. However, very few people talk about both
in depth together. "Last Night" by Sharon Olds and "Seniors" by Alberto Rios cover a variety of
topics, but most importantly they both cover love and sex. More specifically, they cover both what
the male and female thoughts are about sex, what their expectations are during the act, and where
love comes into play. Both speakers are memorializing their past experiences, the experiences
between the two are exceedingly different. Both poems have very similar intentions, ... Show more

Personal Narrative Experience : A Personal Experience
Sitting on top of the highest peak for miles, I feel the winter air whipping my face. The bitter cold
makes my skin prickle and my breath, rapid and heavy after climbing to the top, freeze into my hair
in beautiful, intricate flakes. They melt against my hot skin, leaving tear like drops spilling down
my face. The cold feels wonderful, comforting even, after the strenuous climb. In this moment, I
think of nothing but the air moving in and out of my body, like a river flowing quickly through a
shallow stream; quick, yet quiet and relaxed. Just an hour before I had been swallowed up in the
hustle and bustle of the Giants Ridge Lodge. I had walked in the enormous, beautifully crafted oaks
doors, and could smell the familiar scent of homemade cookies, which they set out for their guests
each day. For a moment, the scent almost took me back to my own kitchen, where my mother often
made delightful treats like the ones left here to welcome us in. Looking around, I was always taken
aback by the high ceilings which looked as if they just might bump into the sky if they extended just
a couple feet further. The walls were painted a comforting shade of green with orange accents to
accentuate. Even in the deep of winter, the colors somehow made you feel as if you were coming in
from a gentle fall day. The deep greens and oranges somehow made you forget the bitter cold which
had just been grabbing at you, pulling every bit of warmth away. Moving forward through the

Chewing Gum: Personal Experience
Distracting myself from the idea of chewing gum has been successful. I have had a lot of work and
studying to do, which can increment the need to chew gum, however, I have managed to concentrate
on what I was doing and not pay much attention to that. Stress can increase the temptation, that is
why I went to a yoga class at FIU. It is a combination of yoga poses and Pilates, which left me
feeling very tired. However, I felt very good because it means I was doing something to stay healthy
physically and mentally. I hope I can continue going despite the Miami's fast life. In here there is not
much time for hobbies unless you make it a priority. In addition, writing about what I feel and think
about this exercise is helping me share my ideas and accomplishments. It also serves as a way of
keeping a record of my progress, so any day that I feel tempted, I can look at these entries and see
that this has helped me and what my thoughts are. It feels good being able to be in control of my
decisions when it comes to that habit of chewing gum. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have to admit that I thought it was not going to be a big deal to taste it, so to avoid feeling pain I
decided I was going to chew for a little while and throw it away. The point was just tasting it. I did
and then threw it away. After doing that, I did not feel proud of myself, because even though I did
not do it based on the necessity of chewing as a habit, the goal was not tasting it. The goal was to
stop chewing gum even for a few seconds. I know it was different purpose but still the same product
that I have been trying to avoid. However, if I think about it, I controlled the situation in the way
that I decided when to throw it away, and I respected that. I did not just put it in my mouth and
thought of just chewing until my jaw hurt. At least, I was in control during my

What WAAS and LAAS means for the future of air travel?
WAAS, the Wild Area Augmentation System is an air navigation system developed by the FAA to
Augment GPS satellites. WAAS is used to track aircraft in flight to better improve its accuracy and
ability to locate aircraft within 25 ft. actual measurements of the system have shown accuracy as
precise as 3 ft 3 in. laterally and 4 ft 11 in. vertically throughout most of the United States and

What is the upcoming deployment of the "Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast" System?
The Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast (ADS–B) is a cooperative surveillance technique
for air traffic control and related applications being developed as part of the Next Generation Air
Transportation System.
Instead of using radar data to keep aircraft at safe distances from one another, in the future, signals
from the Global Navigation Satellite System will provide air traffic controllers and pilots with much
more accurate information that will help keep aircraft safely separated in the sky and on runways.
Eventually, with ADS–B, some of the responsibility for keeping safe distances between aircraft will
shift from air traffic controllers on the ground to pilots who will have displays in the cockpits
pinpointing all the air traffic around them, along with local weather

My College Experience : My Personal Experience In My Life
A week and a half before Thanksgiving break I found myself overwhelmed in an instant after
learning the sheer amount of events and work that would come up. Leading to November sixteenth
and seventeenth, the deadline for all my assignments, I was given my first college research paper to
due, an important essay for my connections class, a midterm for my calculus two class, and two
quizzes and a test for my Japanese class, all due in the span of those two days. I additionally had
individual issues around then that affected me further, they include the stress of registration,
roommate issues and the knowledge that my mom would not be home for Thanksgiving due to her
visiting my grandma to stay with her through the sickness. At that moment I felt a multitude of
emotions, which prompt my mental breakdowns and crying consistently. I felt insufficient and
futile, how would I complete this work on time and with good marks? I had to keep my composure
and try to push through by first, making a goal to take as much time as necessary and complete one
thing at a time, and second to take away my spare time and club time to put my work as my need,
which would give me more opportunities to finish my work. These goals, many late nights and two
all–nighters got me through the majority of the work, but eventually deteriorated my sanity, my
physical and mental well being. Some issues that arose from these late nights were me oversleeping
and missing a very important calc review class, the

Reflection Of My Paintings
My paintings are a reflection of my personal experiences and my imagination. My aim to paint is
not just to master the technique but to feel and connect with the subject.
By balancing the art of memory and personal experience, I create works that narrate a story. I
believe my works are just like novels. Each painting is a different chapter from my life. These visual
compositions may not be the exact representation of the particular event but they do symbolize the
incident. I create with daily, recognizable elements, a situation in which the viewer is also a part of
the work and he is confronted with the conditioning of his own perception and has to reconsider his
biased position.

Personal Narrative: A Personal Experience
I struggled to identify a personal experience that impact my life as the topic for this paper. After
days of thought about the assignment, I sat down to write, but I ended up staring at a blank
computer screen for a long time. I thought to myself, I am struggling. This thought prompted me to
think of all the times that I had struggled in my life. I remembered struggling in basketball, school,
and everyday life. As I thought about them, I realized that I got through them and benefitted from
the experiences. Pushing myself to my limits, looking for ways to get better, and refusing to quit had
produced some good results in my life. People tend to associate struggling as a bad thing because it
is a difficult experience usually filled with frustration. That can be true, but it can also lead to
positive changes in life. I wanted to show how struggling with something can have positive results.

The problem with that strategy was that it did not allow me to dive deep enough into the experience
to allow the reader to gain the knowledge of my feelings. After receiving feedback on my that draft,
I knew that I had to go in a different direction. I picked just one experience and really went into
depth with it. This allowed me to be able to share with the reader a true sense of nervousness,
frustration, satisfaction, relief, and joy. I was able to take the reader on the journey from the start to
the end. After reading my paper, I wanted the reader to realize that everyone struggles in many
ways. It is how a person reacts to the struggle that matters. It was through this experience that I
became a better student and person. As a reader, did this cause you to think of your own experiences
with struggle? Do you see how struggling could benefit a person? Did you feel my emotional
struggle and personal growth throughout the

Poverty In A Thousand Splendid Suns
An experience is a personal involvement or observation of an occurrence by a person. Every day,
various people experience different events of their lives and learn from these many undertakings.
People, however, cannot experience everything, but rather only experience what they undergo.
Nevertheless, for others to distinguish different accomplishments that they cannot be a part of, many
learn from the experiences of others. In the book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, written by Khaled
Hosseini, characters are exposed to life changing events that affect themselves and the ones around
them. In the text, the characters help readers in becoming familiar with the experiences that they are
not accustomed to, as it demonstrates the vast affection people ... Show more content on

Firstly, the novel displays the effects poverty has on the characters' well–being. For example, in the
book, "Aziza's ribs [begin] to push through the skin [...] and her complexion [turns] the color of
weak tea. [...] [Furthermore,] Zalmai [lies] around the house, eyes dulled and half closed, or in his
father's lap limp as a rag" (Hosseini 272). This exhibits the change in the characters' health as
poverty distresses them. As there is an insufficient amount of needs to support the family, the novel
shows that the children begin to become weak and skinny and lose the vitality they had beforehand.
After scarcity, readers view the harsh circumstances poverty brings upon the family with the
absence of necessities. Readers are able to understand the experience of poverty as they grasp on
how the children's well–being has altered. In addition, the stress of living in scarcity collapses
personal relationships. For instance, "after the fire, Rasheed [is] home almost every day. "He [is]
fired from the kebab house [...] because he and a customer [get] in a scuffle" [...] [After he is home],
he [finds] fault with Laila, the way she [dresses], the way she [combs] her hair, her yellowing teeth"
(Hosseini 271). Ultimately, Rasheed presents the opportunity to receive money for the family, but
fails to work in a mannerly way. Once Rasheed is home, he believes Laila is unkempt. This shows
an unfair conviction because they cannot afford to maintain a pleasant appearance, and it is his fault
they cannot pay for things because he is the only one that can obtain a job, as women cannot work.
This shows an effect on personal connections as readers are able to observe an experience of a
personal relationship weakening because of poverty and Rasheed's unfair thoughts due to lack of
money. Overall, the book displays the experience of being affected by poverty through the change of
the characters' health and the breakdown of

that if I do not expose myself to situations or people then I will not gain the lesson or experience.
The experience that I had this semester that has to do with this mantra was on Thursday July 30th
and it was my boyfriend's cousin Winston birthday who invited me to join them at the Auld Shebeen
club in Fairfax, VA. I don't go to clubs in–fact, this was only the third club I've ever been to so I was

Personal Narrative: My Experience At Mt. Zion Baptist Church
In addition, going to the baptist church made me realize that no matter what your culture is, humans
all want the same things. People want a sense of meaning and purpose, and to feel inspired, hopeful,
unconditionally loved, accepted, and uplifted. People want to have an understanding of who they
are, and what that entails. When people are feeling scared and insecure about the present and future,
they demand explanations for the unknown, or the difficult elements of their life. Furthermore,
people need order, structure, and security in their lives by being told what they should think/believe,
how they should behave. People also seek a sense of belonging and community. Overall,it doesn't

Summary Of Bilingual Childhood By Richard Rodriguez
Approximately 37 million people speak both English and Spanish in the United States and have
experienced a feeling of discrimination or rejection. Richard Rodriguez's memoir called "Aria: A
Memoir Of A Bilingual Childhood" demonstrates this with a personal experience. This memoir was
taken from the book "Hunger Of Memory" which was originally published in "1982". The events in
this memoir occur specifically in the 1900s, when the author was a young boy, entering an American
school for the first time. One of the main issues displayed in his memoir is when Rodriguez recalls
being labeled as a "problem student" being a Hispanic–American student in an all–white school.
Another issue displayed in this memoir is the difficulties he had had to learn English meantime he
felt more comfortable with Spanish. Being discriminated and not being able to adapt to two different
languages is a struggle more than half of the world deals with. This is truly a serious issue because
this could potentially be the origin of socially feeling uncomfortable. The purpose of this memoir
was to tell the reader that individuality can come from both one's private and public communities,
but that does not mean that one loses himself. The audience attracted to this memoir are foreigners
in America. This memoir is directed to immigrants and other foreign people who have experienced
the same difficulty of learning a new public language in America. Rodriguez wrote in his memoir
about the struggles he

The Importance Of Education In Mike Rose's Why School
Beyond the Classroom Education means something different for everyone. According to Mike Rose,
"a good education helps us make sense of the world and find our way in it" (33). The truth to this is
that education affects us in every aspect of our lives. Rose emphasizes the value in the experience of
education beyond the value of education for the purpose of custom or intelligence; he explores the
purpose of going to school in terms of how he defines himself and his personal growth in the stages
of his academic career. In Rose's exploration of the purpose of school, he also reflects on his
personal experiences and how those experiences gave him tools that are applicable to his daily life.
Mike Rose's Why School?: Reclaiming Education for All of Us persuades his audience of the
importance of education beyond the classroom, emphasizing how those experiences become crucial
to one's personal growth and potential. Rose elaborates on the significance of education by
reflecting on his own perspective on and how that shaped his identity. His childhood gave him the
opportunity to experience the contrast between a positive learning environment and a negative one.
This also shaped him to have an evident positive outlook on education. He expresses, "I've
experienced classrooms as both places of flat disconnection and growth and inspiration, and this
mix has proved invaluable as I myself have gone on to teach" (Rose 35). He further goes onto to
discuss how this affected him when he was

that there will be both good times and bad. And how you handle the bad determines how many good

Personal Narrative: My Experience With Aramark
My experience working with Aramark was amazing. They have a great system in place here at
James Madison University. I not only learned about the food and beverage industry of hospitality
but also the got real world experience in the back house and front house of the areas I worked. From
the experience I gained here, I can say that I am better prepared and more knowledgeable about the
food and beverage sector.
There were many things I enjoyed while I worked at Aramark. One of the aspects I enjoyed was that
I was able to learn how to use new equipment such as the fryer and the grill. I had never used
equipment like this before, but after working at E–Hall and PC Dukes, I had some first hand

really like fried food too much to begin with, and I had to make it, which gave a really weird and

the rush hour. Even though I got a lot of experience from it, I didn't not enjoy rush hour. I would get
so anxious when my station would have a long line, which I found out that I don't like. Another
aspect that's not so positive about working at PC Dukes was that after cooking the same food in
Sliders for a while, you find it hard to go back to that place and eat there again, which I found to be
really funny. I have not eaten at Sliders since I have started to work at Dukes. Another negative
aspect about working was that there was a language barrier between some of the workers and I. I
felt that I was unable to perform some of the tasks correctly the first time because I didn't
understand them when I was being told due to the language barrier. This was not a big problem
because the people I worked with were really friendly and were willing to help me. To be honest, I
don't have any more negative aspects to tell of my work experience.
After working for higher education in food and beverage, I would consider to work there in the
future. However, I would not work in the fast food locations that they would have. During my
experience, I have come to the conclusion that I do not enjoy being in any fast food environment.
Through Aramark I was able to see what I liked and don't like in this industry. I am really proud that
I had a chance to broaden my knowledge through them because I have honestly learned new things

It would be a good thing to move because my mom and I would now live with my brothers and we

Mexico would probably lower my grades and make things more complicated. It was all about taking
the risk.
Decision time was near. After I analyzed everything, I understood that the best thing I could was to
move to Monterrey with my mom. This was a very significant experience because it really impacted
me. The first semester was very hard as I felt all alone. As soon as I began making friends, however
I realized I couldn't have made a better decision. People in Monterrey are very humble and caring.
They taught me many things, enabling me to become a better person with better feelings. These
friends were the ones who pulled me closer to God when I most needed Him. There was no better

Personal Power Research Paper

  • 1. Personal Power Research Paper Sources of Power in my Life Experience is a key to knowledge. It is a type of power one can simply acquire by observing, encountering, or either undergoing an event. It is a type of power that I have used throughout my life. Expert power. The process of experiencing is when one obtains a skill or a piece of knowledge from an event in their life which can later be utilized in their life. As we gain experience, we become experts in a specific role to which we can help others meet their goals. Experience doesn 't just mean being someone for an extended period of time, it could mean having to go through struggles in their life or just by making a small mistake that they have been through already. Experience is something that we all have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We have freedom of speech so therefore, we have the rights to fight for ourselves using personal power. We handle our emotions and feelings through emotional intelligence that we develop as we grow up. As a matter of fact, this type of power is actually more innovative than other forms of power because it comes from our own energy. People use personal power as an advantage such as possessing good traits and characteristics to influence and lead others and gain their trust. For example, we would want to vote for a president who has the most personal power. This power is a combination of coercive and empowerment. It 's empowerment because it comes from our own energy and coercive because we have the ability to persuade others using personal power. Comparatively, positional power also has a great significance use in our daily lives. Police officers, lawyers, teachers, parents, managers and even just a normal person has some sort of positional power. This common power is specified as having authority and influence over another person. A person with positional power is coercive, which means they have power over others. For example, parents can make their children do something that they don 't want to do since the child wouldn 't have any choice. A police officer can also use their title as an advantage to have authority over us which means if we disobey them, there will be consequences, simply because of their positional power. • 2. Personal Narrative: My Near Death Experience I have never had a near death experience. I know that many people my age haven't, though they claim that they did. I've always wondered what one would be like and hearing stories in class about them made me feel so excited. It also made me feel that I would never put myself in a situation where I was in danger. It made me think about if I ever had an experience what it would be about. This is some of my basic thoughts about near death experiences. I got excited about the near death stories because sometimes they have twists or they have electrifying details that add to the suspense. When you sit on the sidelines it doesn't seem as scary, and it almost looks appealing. The story about going down a water slide and running into an overweight woman seemed hilarious at the time, but if I was in the situation I wouldn't know how to act. It is the whole "Every rose has its thorns." That is something that I will probably have to learn the hard way because I'm stubborn and I don't like people telling me what I can and can't do. My only hope is that I don't hurt someone else while doing it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that I am a very responsible person, so something like that ever happening to me seems impossible. The story about the man who fell asleep at the wheel and almost ran head on into a car doesn't seem like something that would happen to me, but I know one day I will think that I can make it home and not have to stop and that day I fall asleep at the wheel. I would hope that I would stop the situation from occurring, but there is a chance that I will overestimate my skill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Personal Experience And My Experience Being a first–time freshman is exciting and intimidating at the same time, for me it is higher than the average because I do not usually adventure beyond the set path. This is why I appreciate my friends, who are thrill seekers and tag me along with them. At the California State University of Bakersfield, I have found the freedom to break away from the set path by following the trail on an Outdoor Adventure and experiencing the Piedra Blanca Formation Hike. My friend Ana* had invited me to accompany her on this hike because of the accessibility of the trip. The trip was priced ten dollars which is a bargain compared to the amazing excursion my friends and I were on. *(I am changing my friend's name for their privacy) This trip included the transportation from the University to the Piedra Blanca Formation, and lunch. The day of the trip I was feeling sick and I did consider canceling but I decided I was not feeling too sick and the fresh air would help. I was waiting for my friend Ana and as she picked me up she invited me to grab a special Starbucks drink called the medicine ball, it is a mix of different herbal teas, which surprisingly did help me feel better. We arrive at the university parking lot and there are around ten other people ready to head out and we are all adrenalized and nervous to go on the trip. My friend Ana and I were preparing our snacks to head out and as we are boarding the van we meet the two other passengers, who were the trip leaders. Both were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Not In Touch With Personal Power It doesn't take much effort to notice that some people are more empowered than others. But while it may appear that empowered people have something empowered people don't, inherently we all have the same power. The defining factor is that some people are in touch with and connected to this power and some people are not. Reasons And there are many reasons as to why someone is or is not in touch with their personal power. This can relate to: the kind of childhood one has experienced; how one responded to their childhood; the friends that one has and the people they have come across; how resilient one is and many other factors. There is also the social aspect here and how mainstream society's often discourage ones personal power and actively foster dependence on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One can then end up being caught up in their feelings or thoughts and react to them. And how they behave will then depend on these internal aspects and not conscious decisions. Consequences When this sense of personal power hasn't been realised it can lead to all kinds of consequences. The desire to control others is one of these consequences and one of the more common examples. Another thing that can happen is the idealisation and elevation of other people. To admire another human being and to respect their achievements is one thing. It is another to see someone else as being superior and as having something that one does not have themselves. When this takes place, one is giving their own power away and denying what they have within them. Certain societal figures can then feed on this power that is being given to them by people. This can explain how authority figures, such as those in the political arena, often have so much power; it's because so many people have renounced their own. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Personal Narrative: My Experiences In High School People can face many challenges in life from good to bad and it is the way in which one chooses to overcome them that they can succeed. I have had a challenge in school that I needed to work on in order to overcome the barrier. I have not always been the best but also not the worst in my classes academically speaking. I have faced times in which I struggled in certain courses specifically in my math classes. I am not the math type of guy, I have always found numbers and everything math related not interesting to me at all. Throughout high school Geometry and Algebra 2 have been the courses in which I have found myself struggling the most. • 6. College And Personal Experience : My Experience In College College, from what I heard from people say, is a time that you would not forget. From coming from such a far away place I did not really know what to expect. I was expecting some changes, but not the changes that I experienced over the past semester. I have changed as a person with greater openness of others' ideas and topics. I have changed with more independent from my parents and I have changed with more knowing of determining who I want to be, and I have changed by being more understanding that a person has to ask questions or otherwise, when in doubt people will not communicate with you. This past semester has been a time of self growth, which in turn has caused me to be a much different person that I had started out with. There were multiple times where I saw and heard other people's experiences and ideas. One of these times was in our Perspectives class, because of the many discussions from the class, as a whole, and of the specialty group focusing on political ideology. I changed with the moderation of views regarding economic policies, however, I am still fervent on my current views on social issues. Another time I have broadened my outlook is when I normally walk around with some friends and then they occasionally they open up about themselves. Prior to SU, I felt there was no person out there who had experienced or understood what I had to deal with my mother and my secluded life. Every person in SU that I have met had something with them that had a direct ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Personal Narrative Experience : A Personal Experience The night before I thought about just saying I went to a meeting and watching one on Youtube. This idea gave me more anxiety than actually going. I set my alarm for 6am to make it to the 7am–8am meeting at Narragansett Town Beach. My friend was over the night before and he also grew up in Narragansett and lived here for 30 years as well. He gave me worst anxiety, talking about I am going to see all the "townies", teachers and neighbors. This made me extremely nervous, but it is the only time I can get to a meeting this week that 10 mins down the street. I woke up before my alarm with the felling of someone sitting on my chest and vomit sitting in my throat. I was having a panic attack before I even got up. I sat in my car for a few minutes before talking the hardest step; Walking through the doors. I immediately felt discouragement, when their was no meeting going on. I later found out the meeting was at chair one at the town beach and probably was canceled because of the rain. I ended up going to a meeting Saturday morning at the St. Augustine church down in campus before work at 10am. It made me feel more comfortable to go to one on school campus, assuming everyone would think that I was from the school. I sat in the back of the small church, watching everyone exchanges hugs and pour themselve a cups of coffee. Sticking out like a snore them, everyone glanced at me with a welcoming vibe. The meeting commenced with two ladies sitting in front of all of us, announcing other meetings going on around town. A guest speaking started the meeting. It immediately surprised when she said that she has been clean since 1986 and stopped when she was twenty–two years old. She used the terminology of minimizing and denial during her story. She explained that she never thought that she was an alcoholic. She did not feel like she gave in willingly but instead she felt that she was captured by her family and forced. The speaker told herself that tomorrow she would stop but tomorrow never came. She smashed up companies cars and lost a few jobs in Las Vegas and Miami. She banged for money and even people's canio chips. When she did not get the chips she thought, "man those are people are cheap". She explained to everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Work Of Belbin And My Personal Experiences The work of Belbin and my personal experiences The Financial Post (2015) stated teamwork is key to success; this is true in the context of building careers as at some point you will have to work in a team, which is sometimes challenging. Steve Jobs also believed in the importance of teamwork "Great things in business are never done by one person they're done by a team of people." (BusinessNewsDaily, 2013). There are many different aspects of teamwork for example; skills, team conflict and group size. This essay reflects on my personal experiences of working in a team. First I will talk about the literature of Belbin, describing key elements about teamwork. Then I will assess how accurately the literature reflects my experiences of teamwork. Lastly, I will look at what I have learned from the experience, by putting the literature and my experiences into context. I have various experiences in team projects, which I will be relating to the project that I recently took part in regarding leadership. Belbin's 1993 book concludes that an effective team has members covering all 9 key roles. It is beneficial to have a dynamic team that contributes a wide range of skills, whereby people will be appointed on the basis of their functional roles as and when their skills would be needed (Belbin, 1993). Managing team conflict is also important as Belbin, (2002) argues that if a team were to reach mutual grounds on each member's goals prior to starting tasks this would ensure the ... • 9. My Personal Experience : My Journey To College I came to college to explore the world and learn more about myself. In a small town, there's never much to do. In the country surrounded by corn fields there's even less. As a little girl college had always been the dream. For the obvious reasons of getting a good education, finding a job, and making money. As I matured my reasons for attending college became more complex. Things at home were never very good and most of time I usually found myself held prisoner in the house. Exploring the world and learning new things had always been my passion. But, as time went on I began to lose my purpose in life. I soon realized that college could help me find that purpose that I was searching for. Growing up I was always one of those weird kids that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It had always been my dream to travel all over the world instead of staying in the same one street town all of my life. I knew that college would bring me on step closer to that dream. Since coming to Upper Iowa University I've looked into all of the possible chances to study abroad. Along with traveling I've always loved to try new things from food to new activities. Being at college there has already been so many opportunities that I never would have gotten the chance to do. Here I'm able to go out and socialize with new people every day. I probably would have never gotten the chance to play laser tag or go paintballing. I am surrounded by people from different cultures, who were raised in all different raise. People here think in ways and ideas that I never would have thought of. Even though while I'm in college I still have a routine everyday isn't the same for me. In my home town, it was the same thing day after day. I would wake up, go to school, then go back home just to start all over again. I began to get lost in my conventional, everyday life. I couldn't see the meaning in my life anymore. It felt as if I was a robot just going through the motions that someone had laid out for me. Getting stuck in the same routine day to day made it feel as if I was losing my purpose in life. All I did everyday was go to school and then go back home and do homework. I was giving no actual contribution to the world. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Personal Experience : My Experience Although I was raised in a globally aware family of travelers, nothing could have prepared me for the experience of living in another country with an unfamiliar culture. The idea that I would be separated from everything I knew and dropped into a new way of life was not unfamiliar to me, however, as I had been raised with the expectation that I would one day become an exchange student like my mother had. Both of my parents had travelled their share of the world before getting married, and understood and instilled in me the importance of understanding other cultures. They also made a point to incorporate aspects of other countries in our daily lives and bring me along on business trips overseas before I can even remember. Travelling abroad alone at the age of 16 was an incredible experience, and one that will forever impact the way that I look at the world. Despite my upbringing, I still had been impacted by the culture of America, which although containing people from all around the world still contains some extensive pride and cultural superiority. Being in a different environment surrounded by people who were all raised differently than myself and who in general thought differently awakened me to my previously closeminded view of the world. I had to think differently there, and be more aware of my actions in fear of making a mistake, despite constant reassurance that I was allowed to mess up. • 11. Personal Essay : My Personal Experience, And Passion For... My guiding question was formed from my personal experience and passion regarding sports. Throughout my youth years leading into my senior year of high school, I have played the sports of football, basketball, soccer, baseball, and wrestling as well. I had gone through countless failures, successes, and experiences that have altered my character and identity, contributing to the person I am today. Failures notably consist of playing poorly during a game, leading to letting my teammates down or failing to win a wrestling match. Successes notably included winning football games, making a great play or and winning a wrestling tournament. With those successes and failures, came with experiences that shaped me to become resilient and wiser in life. Coaches and teammates that I have played with and for, have taught and guided me to become a better athlete and student than I was before. I was very fortunate in my life to be named the captain of my wrestling and football teams, and a coach/mentor for my town's youth football and wrestling programs as well. My perspective is vast, from actually playing in countless games on the court, field, to looking from the outside as a coach or part of the crowd. Upon high school graduation, my tenure of playing sports came to an end, which gave me an opportunity to reflect on my character in the past, to the present. At this point in my life, I can fully understand how sports have positively influenced me through all aspects of my life. My ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Personal Experience : My Experience My Experience Transitioning from a teacher in training to a student was possibly one of the hardest things I have done. I really struggled with keeping my mouth closed when a child was not behaving. In my math class, I noticed that though there wasn't a lot of physical activity most of the other students were eager to participate. My math teacher kept us engaged by having us walk through the homework and constantly walking around. Because she had the students walk through each of the problems, it was easy to follow as a student. When anyone had a question she would have us walk her through what we did and find the discrepancy. My teachers flow was smooth and she made sure we understood her expectations for the Unit One math exam. It has been a while since I took a math test, and so when she handed out the Unit One test I felt a clench at the pit of my stomach. As I moved through my exam, I felt fatigue and starvation overcome me. It was early in the morning, but by the end of the test I was exhausted and hungry. I can only imagine what some of my other students were feeling, especially if they had missed breakfast or did not get enough sleep. And even after, I felt the fatigue because we were only able to head to the bathroom before heading back to the class for our guidance counselors lesson on careers. As I observed and experienced recess, I saw that most of our students take this time to talk to their friends instead of playing or running. They enjoy walking around and ... • 13. Personal Experience: Lessons Learned From Hurricane Katrina We all have our problems in life, whether it's lack of friends, food, or even money. That's one thing that makes us all similar. We're all struggling in some way or another. What's important is that us human beings are all here to help each other. That makes handling our problems much easier, right? Wrong. It may seem trivial, but my crisis is identity. I don't know which clothes to wear, when to wear them, or how my actions should reflect on my group of friends. I know that I have people around me who can provide help, but what's the point of even asking? If there are young children dying of hunger in some countries, my problem is nothing. "They are always around, and they are always here to help," the television echoes back at me, as if answering my question. "If you happen to get caught in this storm, try your best to find the closest wood shop center. There are quite a few in the Couturie Forest." It was the news reporter warning everyone about a storm. Apparently, it's supposed to be Louisiana's worst nightmare. "...It'll be strong," he continues. "With winds at around seventy–four miles per hour, this storm will have breezes of the average hurricane. We definitely advise all individuals to stay in their homes. The storm should occur at ... That's why when my mom told me that we were moving to Louisiana, I was thrilled. It was my one chance to alter my identity, not to mention start fresh. I could finally fit in with everyone else and be normal. Because of the move, I've landed in the position I'm in now. Out of all the students I could've associated myself with, I decided to sit at a table with the 'rebellious' kids. I knew in my gut that it was a bad decision, but what other choice did I have? • 14. Personal Narrative: A Near Death Experience Surviving a near death experience can have a lasting impression on an individual. The sheer unpredictability of the event as well as the immediate danger that is presented in front of the person are two. Unfortunately, as a nine–year old, I had an unexpected encounter with a Rottweiler dog as I was coming home from school on a rainy day. It was an experience that made me change my outlook on life and how I perceived danger in general. I could recall my near death experience as if it were yesterday. It was a very bleak Thursday afternoon as the sun was completely obstructed by the formation of dark clouds. The forecast for that day was predicted to be heavy showers which was surprisingly accurate considering that the weatherman is not as reliable as you would had expected. Not wanting to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some people hypothesize the reason of surviving a near death experience as a stroke of blind luck, while others view it as a sign of being given a second chance at life. However, I have another explanation which is rather out of the ordinary. When my great aunt passed from cancer, which was two years before the incident, my mother told me that she would watch over me even when I was not around in person. Ever since her death, my family and I would always pay a visit to the Buddhist temple every Chinese New Year to pay her respect. Having been a part of these Buddhist customs for most of my childhood, I was taught that the dead do not actually pass away but instead ascend into a higher place, similar to heaven. Although the incident with the dog was the only near–death experience, I was able to overcome tough obstacles such as passing my driver's test at the D.M.V with a low success rate. Taking the miraculous outcome of my incident to account, I still wonder if what my mother had originally said was true and if the supernatural do exist. Needless I am very thankful of my ... • 16. My Personal Experience Although we've all experienced any degree of disappointments in our lives, there are a select few that tend to stick with us. They act as assets in our lives, tools to use help us grow. The way a person deals with disappointment speaks volume about who someone is. Personally, I am the kind of person who likes to have constants in my life; commodities that won't change and those that I can depend on when everything else is unstable. When I was in my second year of middle school, one of my biggest constants was my band director, Ms. Palmer. The way my school district operated, all the middle school directors would also help in the mornings at the high school band class. As a result of this, once my brother and sister left our middle school, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shattered all confidence I had for going to high school, all hope for comfort I previously had. All of a sudden, my main constant dissolved. The only thing that I had going for me, the safety net in my life ceased to provide comfort. From this event, I feel that I learned a great deal about how I personally coped with disappointment and major changes in my life. After tears had been shed and the questions were answered, I had an opportunity to develop and to mature from this. After adequate contemplation, I realized that it wasn't the best idea to depend on other people so deeply. In my youth, I had been raised and taught how to be independent and to care for myself, making sure that I could give myself all I needed to become successful. This loss of someone turned out to be invaluably important in my life and further reinforced my idea that the only person you should depend on is yourself. Though this sounds grim, I am able to attribute much of my success to my personal independence. I've learned how to set goals for myself, how to motivate myself to try and rise above negative situations and develop from them. Ms. Palmer leaving sparked my first internal revision that has thus led to a personal reflection resulting in the mindset I possess now. Several years later, I have the ability to reflect upon myself in a more timely and constructive manner. Looking at situations like these in a useful light, disappointments are a fantastic ... A recipe may be said to be knowledge because it tells you how to make the cake step by step. Looking at this shared knowledge shapes your personal knowledge and next time you might not need the recipe because the recipe would be part of your own personal knowledge. If shared knowledge is knowledge that has been received from people or sources around you then personal knowledge is knowledge that is gained directly through firsthand experience or observation . Shared knowledge usually shapes personal knowledge. Even when an inexperienced cook has a recipe, they might still not be able to make a good cake. Looking at this example we can see that the shared knowledge being the recipe can shape the personal knowledge of both the cooks and because the experienced cook has more personal knowledge, he is able to come up with a better cake than the inexperienced cook. The bitter cold makes my skin prickle and my breath, rapid and heavy after climbing to the top, freeze into my hair in beautiful, intricate flakes. They melt against my hot skin, leaving tear like drops spilling down my face. The cold feels wonderful, comforting even, after the strenuous climb. In this moment, I think of nothing but the air moving in and out of my body, like a river flowing quickly through a shallow stream; quick, yet quiet and relaxed. Every day, various people experience different events of their lives and learn from these many undertakings. People, however, cannot experience everything, but rather only experience what they undergo. Nevertheless, for others to distinguish different accomplishments that they cannot be a part of, many learn from the experiences of others. In the text, the characters help readers in becoming familiar with the experiences that they are not accustomed to, as it demonstrates the vast affection people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, the novel displays the effects poverty has on the characters' well–being. For example, in the book, "Aziza's ribs [begin] to push through the skin [...] and her complexion [turns] the color of weak tea. [...] [Furthermore,] Zalmai [lies] around the house, eyes dulled and half closed, or in his father's lap limp as a rag" (Hosseini 272). This exhibits the change in the characters' health as poverty distresses them. As there is an insufficient amount of needs to support the family, the novel shows that the children begin to become weak and skinny and lose the vitality they had beforehand. After scarcity, readers view the harsh circumstances poverty brings upon the family with the absence of necessities. Readers are able to understand the experience of poverty as they grasp on how the children's well–being has altered. In addition, the stress of living in scarcity collapses personal relationships. For instance, "after the fire, Rasheed [is] home almost every day. "He [is] fired from the kebab house [...] because he and a customer [get] in a scuffle" [...] [After he is home], he [finds] fault with Laila, the way she [dresses], the way she [combs] her hair, her yellowing teeth" (Hosseini 271). Ultimately, Rasheed presents the opportunity to receive money for the family, but fails to work in a mannerly way. Once Rasheed is home, he believes Laila is unkempt. This shows an unfair conviction because they cannot afford to maintain a pleasant appearance, and it is his fault they cannot pay for things because he is the only one that can obtain a job, as women cannot work. This shows an effect on personal connections as readers are able to observe an experience of a personal relationship weakening because of poverty and Rasheed's unfair thoughts due to lack of money. Summary Of Bilingual Childhood By Richard Rodriguez Approximately 37 million people speak both English and Spanish in the United States and have experienced a feeling of discrimination or rejection. Richard Rodriguez's memoir called "Aria: A Memoir Of A Bilingual Childhood" demonstrates this with a personal experience. This memoir was taken from the book "Hunger Of Memory" which was originally published in "1982". The events in this memoir occur specifically in the 1900s, when the author was a young boy, entering an American school for the first time. One of the main issues displayed in his memoir is when Rodriguez recalls being labeled as a "problem student" being a Hispanic–American student in an all–white school. Another issue displayed in this memoir is the difficulties he had had to learn English meantime he felt more comfortable with Spanish. Being discriminated and not being able to adapt to two different languages is a struggle more than half of the world deals with. This is truly a serious issue because this could potentially be the origin of socially feeling uncomfortable. The purpose of this memoir was to tell the reader that individuality can come from both one's private and public communities, but that does not mean that one loses himself. • 34. The Importance Of Education In Mike Rose's Why School Beyond the Classroom Education means something different for everyone. According to Mike Rose, "a good education helps us make sense of the world and find our way in it" (33). The truth to this is that education affects us in every aspect of our lives. Rose emphasizes the value in the experience of education beyond the value of education for the purpose of custom or intelligence; he explores the purpose of going to school in terms of how he defines himself and his personal growth in the stages of his academic career. In Rose's exploration of the purpose of school, he also reflects on his personal experiences and how those experiences gave him tools that are applicable to his daily life. Mike Rose's Why School?: Reclaiming Education for All of Us persuades his audience of the importance of education beyond the classroom, emphasizing how those experiences become crucial to one's personal growth and potential. Rose elaborates on the significance of education by reflecting on his own perspective on and how that shaped his identity. His childhood gave him the opportunity to experience the contrast between a positive learning environment and a negative one. This also shaped him to have an evident positive outlook on education. He expresses, "I've experienced classrooms as both places of flat disconnection and growth and inspiration, and this mix has proved invaluable as I myself have gone on to teach" (Rose 35). He further goes onto to discuss how this affected him when he was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Personal Experience Personal Experience 2:35 a.m. Even though it was something that I had experienced before, the pain still took me my surprise. And it was only the beginning. I had finally fallen asleep around midnight. My parents had come down to Indiana for a weekend visit and we had stayed up a little late enjoying our visit with each other after the boys had gone to bed. There were two bedrooms in my little apartment and I had given them the use of mine, deciding to sleep with my two children in the other room. Being two weeks overdue with my third child and still working full–time as a waitress, I practically passed out when my head finally touched the pillow. That is, until a bad cramp woke me from my peaceful slumber. Still groggy from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And that's the time when everything suddenly becomes clear. No matter what happens to me in this world I have wonderful parents who will always be there for me. My children, whether with me or their father, will always want and need me. It doesn't really matter where they live, or who they live with. They will always need their mother, just as I still need mine. Nothing in life is certain, except that there will be both good times and bad. And how you handle the bad determines how many good times there will be. I finally realized that I didn't need a man to make me complete, for I could do that all on my own. All I need is my family and God and all else will eventually fall into ... • 36. Personal Narrative: My Experience With Aramark My experience working with Aramark was amazing. They have a great system in place here at James Madison University. I not only learned about the food and beverage industry of hospitality but also the got real world experience in the back house and front house of the areas I worked. From the experience I gained here, I can say that I am better prepared and more knowledgeable about the food and beverage sector. There were many things I enjoyed while I worked at Aramark. One of the aspects I enjoyed was that I was able to learn how to use new equipment such as the fryer and the grill. I had never used equipment like this before, but after working at E–Hall and PC Dukes, I had some first hand experience on how to use these appliances. Another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first thing I didn't like so much was that I worked with fried food a lot in PC Dukes. I don't really like fried food too much to begin with, and I had to make it, which gave a really weird and greasy feeling after working with it for a few hours. The second aspect that I didn't like so much was the rush hour. Even though I got a lot of experience from it, I didn't not enjoy rush hour. I would get so anxious when my station would have a long line, which I found out that I don't like. Another aspect that's not so positive about working at PC Dukes was that after cooking the same food in Sliders for a while, you find it hard to go back to that place and eat there again, which I found to be really funny. I have not eaten at Sliders since I have started to work at Dukes. Another negative aspect about working was that there was a language barrier between some of the workers and I. I felt that I was unable to perform some of the tasks correctly the first time because I didn't understand them when I was being told due to the language barrier. This was not a big problem because the people I worked with were really friendly and were willing to help me. To be honest, I don't have any more negative aspects to tell of my work experience. After working for higher education in food and beverage, I would consider to work there in the future. However, I would not work in the fast food locations that they would have. During my experience, I have come to the conclusion that I do not enjoy being in any fast food environment. Through Aramark I was able to see what I liked and don't like in this industry. I am really proud that I had a chance to broaden my knowledge through them because I have honestly learned new things about myself as well as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Personal Experience Life is full of adventures and experiences. The key to living well is making these experiences as meaningful as possible. I went through a very significant experience, which was actually more of a risk, about two years ago. I was 15 years old and I had to decide whether I would stay in my hometown or move to Monterrey, Mexico. As in every dilemma faced, there are pros and cons that will try to sway you. Time wouldn't stop and the day of my decision was getting closer and closer; the less time I had to decide, the more confused and undecided I became. All I could do was imagine myself living the future in my hometown or in Monterrey. But, why was I put into this situation? Should I have stayed where I was born and where I'd lived my whole ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It would be a good thing to move because my mom and I would now live with my brothers and we would all be united like we were before. This new beginning would help us overcome the death of my dad. The bad part was that, as I was about to enter high school, moving to Monterrey without knowing anyone would be very difficult. I had always studied in the USA, so attending a school in Mexico would probably lower my grades and make things more complicated. It was all about taking the risk. Decision time was near. After I analyzed everything, I understood that the best thing I could was to move to Monterrey with my mom. This was a very significant experience because it really impacted me. The first semester was very hard as I felt all alone. As soon as I began making friends, however I realized I couldn't have made a better decision. People in Monterrey are very humble and caring. They taught me many things, enabling me to become a better person with better feelings. These friends were the ones who pulled me closer to God when I most needed Him. There was no better feeling than getting home and seeing my brothers living with me again. My family was once again united, and I am very grateful for all of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Personal Narrative: My Life Changing Experiences Everyone will undergo a life altering experience at some point. It may only change a small aspect of everyday life, or it may change everything. Sometimes it is a surprise, other times it can be panned for; either way, no one is ready for the changes that are soon to follow. A lesson is always taught by these life altering experiences, but not always learned. I realize tragedy is inevitable, I remember that when I think about cancer taking my best friend, my mother. I was young at the time, but never young minded! I knew well beyond my years, but I learned more than any teacher could ever teach me when that awful disease won the battle. My momma was always my favorite person, my confidant, and ultimately my ride or die. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On January 20, she received a call that I was on the way; that was not her first rodeo though, she had already been involved in four other adoptions with my brothers Eddie and Bryan, and my sisters Candy and Nicole. At the age of 18, after her first born child, she got news that she had a brain tumor and would soon have undergo surgery. For most, that would have ended dreams about having a big family, but not her, she saw this as an opportunity to help more people. She knew children needed a home and she had one to give. That is the type of person she was, if there was a way to help she would find and pursue it. She had the biggest heart, I have ever had the privilege of being a part of. My mother had many honorable traits that include: being humble, honest, and reliable. She gloated of her success or material items or rub it in people's faces nor did she think she was better than any other soul. My mother was brutally honest, she definitely was not a person I would want to insult because she had no problem calling someone out in front of a crowd. She had the ability to make someone feel like they were either on top or completely under the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
