2. Top Tips for taking a photograph
• 1)Look your subject in the eye. In media it is also known as direct
mode of address. It looks like the person on the cover is looking at
the audience directly. This will draw them in. Could also make them
think they have a closer relationship with the cover model, this
could encourage them to want to read about them in the magazine,
so they buy the issue.
3. • 2) Use a plain background. This is handy for magazine as it causes
the cover model(s) to stand out more. If you have a busy
background, this may take away focus that is suppose to be on the
cover model(s). Some magazines has a lot of taglines and inset
images on the cover, having a plain background allows them to be
readable and stand out.
4. • 3) Use flash outdoors. The best lighting you could use is sunlight.
However it is unreliable. You want the image on your magazine to
stand out, this means for it to my bright and clear. If I was to take
photos outside, using a flash would be a good way to add any extra
light onto the photograph.
5. • 4) Close-up images. This is a good technique is there is one person on the
cover of the magazine. It allows you to get a clear, close-up photo of
them. It causes the image to stand out more on the shelf in a shop. If the
person is famous, they will stand out straight away.
6. • 5) Lock the focus. To ensure the photo is sharp and clear it has to
has focus. If it doesn’t them then the photo will not be high quality.
This will make my magazine look less professional and less people
will be willing to buy it.
