College Narrative
It was roughly five fifteen in the morning when the sun began to crest its golden crown over the
awakening Hudson River and the far off New Jersey Palisades. A starless night sky seemed
deliberately transformed with pink, orange, purple and red gauzy stripes, casting a warm wash over
the sleeping earth. I gazed skyward as I stood near the medieval bell tower at the Cloisters, and my
eyes reflected the awe–inspiring beauty. That dawn was one of many, when I found myself tramping
deliberately up the forested hills of Fort Tryon Park. As I stood at the summit, I inhaled the sanctity
of my surroundings and felt my soul being cleansed by the peaceful soundscape. Gazing at the vast
canvas that was the sky, the predictable chimes of the church bells ... Show more content on

I avoided all eye–contact with my fellow riders, as was the unspoken rule of subway survival. The
monotony of the dirty, silent underground tunnels was only interrupted by pre–recorded
announcements of the various stops, the screeching of wheels and the rushing of harried passengers.
At the Wall Street stop, I pried myself out of the subway car, shoving through the hoards of people
queuing at the turnstiles. Arriving at World Financial Center, I passed through security and rode the
metallic, grey elevator up to the 32nd floor where my office resided. I mentally steeled myself for
the brutally wearisome hours ahead of me, slaving away on the computer in a dimly–lit, carpeted

Summary Of Bank Of America Acquisition Of Merrill Lynca
Case Analysis; Bank of America Acquisition of Merrill Lynch
Executive summary
Bank of America acquired Merrill Lynch in 2008. There were challenges that followed the
acquisition. The following paper is an analysis of some of the challenges that transpired at the time.
There is the statement of the problem and a proposition on how the management can handle it. The
paper then outlines what could have caused the problem and goes ahead to give solutions to those
problems. There are the recommendations of how to permanently solve those problems at the end of
the paper (Grant, 2016).
Background
Between the 13th and 14th of September 2008, the Bank of America and Merrill Lynch entered a
deal which would see the former acquire the latter. It was one of the biggest deals to have ever
happened in the corporate world. Despite the signing of the deal, there was a host of problems that
followed it (Davis, 2008). There are questions that emerged later, and they still demand answers.
The current paper seeks to identify the problems that emerged as a result of the acquisition and
propose solutions.
Statement of the problem
Unhappy and unsatisfied employees of the two entities who feel they were not involved. Angry
shareholders who want an explanation as to why things are the way they are. They do not
understand why the share price is falling in the stock market (Davis, 2008).
The main cause of the problem was the hasty acquisition of Merrill Lynch. Both the employees of
the two entities

Alfred As The Master Of Suspense In The Climbing Frame Scene In The Film The Birds
'The Birds' is a film made in the 1960's based on the short story 'The Birds' by Daphne Du Maurier.
The film was directed by Alfred Hitchcock, a British born director who is known for other tense,
suspense filled films such as 'Psycho' and 'Vertigo'. Due to the extensive special effects of the film, it
took three years to make. During the film Hitchcock created several suspense filled, tense scenes.
Including the 'Climbing Frame' scene. Alfred Hitchcock tries to live up to his title 'The Master Of
Suspense' whilst creating scenes like this and the following essay looks at if he achieved this.

The weather is sunny and it is quiet. From this single camera shot we see Melanie in her car driving
down the road with the Bodega Bay School in the distance. Here, Hitchcock is trying to give the
impression that everything is normal. The sky is blue and the roads are clear. Nothing indicating
anything out of the ordinary is shown.
Melanie arrives at the school, parks her car and gets out. We hear young voices singing and innocent
children's song. We can see, with the camera behind Melanie, her car and the entrance of the Bodega
Bay School Melanie walks up the stairs and enters the school.
The sound in this early part of the scene is very direct –by the means of everything is given to the
audience. We ear the young children's voices singing an innocent school song. Immediately, when
we hear the young children singing it gives the children naivety, by using the song as a symbol of
innocence.
As she opens the door of the school we find out it is the school children who are singing this song.
Melanie opens the inner door of the school and volume of the song increases. This increases the
symbolism of innocence on the children.
When Melanie looks into the classroom, she distracts a few children from their singing. Melanie
looks up, and we see Annie – the schoolteacher at the front of the class directing the children. Annie

Surviving birth
Life in the womb was getting tiring for a certain fetus. "Soon to be expected" was considered too
long of a wait for her. One January day, Jessica decided it was time to pop out of the womb. This
caused many complications between her mother and her. She was born premature and had trouble

As little Jessica began to go to school, she was somewhat introverted. Fellow pupils were gravitated

assured. This led to Jessica to become comfortable with giving speeches in class and having random
conversations with strangers.
Effortless driving? Now at the age of sixteen, Jessica is ready to start learning how to drive. She was
always fascinated by how people drove and how they parked in narrow spaces. It's finally her turn to
be behind the wheel. The first time she drove on the road was pretty good and her vertical parking
was perfect. The real challenge was learning to parallel parking. Parallel parking was not her forte
on the first try. After taking a month break of parking; she tried again and managed to perfectly

I am twenty years old and currently attend Illinois Central College (ICC). I have a mother, a father,

moved into a different home. Both of my parents have taught in the past and are both currently
coaching at Metamora Township High School. They pushed me to excel in school and sports during
my high school career. My passion during high school was football and wrestling. Unfortunately, I
got injured multiple times and could not continue participation in them. It was very difficult to go
through that, and it still is hard for me to contend with my injuries. After getting injured, my primary
focus became my grades and pushing myself to do the best as possible. During my last semester in
high school, I received a 4.1 GPA. During that time, I was on the Student Council Board and was the
Class President all four years. I enjoyed helping my school, but I would do anything to be a part of

Analysis Of The Article 'The Private Jessica Lynch' By...
The article "The Private Jessica Lynch" by Nancy Gibbs, from Time, is a retelling of Jessica's
capture. Jessica's strength and faith is admirable. Everything we take for granted is a victory for her.
Walking forty steps by herself is a victory. She was captured and beaten within an inch of her life,
yet her spirit remained unbroken. Jessica remained undefeated as she stood up against the media,
questioning every mistake made during her tour. She keeps her spirits high, for all those soldiers
who couldn't come home, who weren't given a chance to recover. Gibbs gave the world a new
perspective on Jessica Lynch, a view of the Jessica no one knew, the private version, the one that
was hidden away from years of being in the service, the version of herself that was reserved only for
her family and friends. The world met the real Jessica Lynch through this article. The author tried to
make Lynch by originally calling her Jessica, and then shifting her name to Jessi, giving her a more
human aspect. The author gathered her information from primary sources, such as Jessica and her
family. By using a primary source, her information is correct. She went right to the place where all
the action was happening, Jessica's hometown, Palestine. The author's most successful writing
strategies were visualization and description. Gibbs writes that, "Old women press ... Show more

her she has a two–year window; after that, what has't healed probably won't," (Gibbs). Jessica Lynch

Summary Of The Glass Mengotie And The Glass Menagerie
"Free as a bird. It's the next best thing to be... What ever happened to the life we once knew? Always
made me feel so free!" This song, by the Beatles, shares the well known idea of being free as a bird.
Since the beginning of time, mankind has wondered what it would feel like to fly, to travel around
the world, and to be free. Humans have idolised the talents of birds for this reason. They can go
wherever, whenever, and always seem happy soaring through the sky at their own leisure. While
birds used to all roam free, now, approximately 3,700,000 of the 8,300,000 birds are being kept as
household pets in the United States according to www.avma.org. That's about 44% of the birds in
the United States that are kept in cages. Naturally, these birds yearn to fly free and be happy, but
instead they are trapped in tiny cages, or, for the lucky ones, some are thrown in a cage as big as a
living room television. This feeling of being trapped is how Tom Wingfield from The Glass
Menagerie and Mamie from the poem "Mamie" feel.
In the Glass Menagerie and the poem "Mamie," respectively, Tom Wingfield and Mamie both feel
trapped in their horrible, hated lives. All Tom and Mamie want is to be happy and feel free, but they
can't because they are trapped in their society's social disadvantages.
In the Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, Tom Wingfield is living the disadvantageous life of
the 1930s. At this time, the Great Depression has begun and WWII is on the way. Tom Wingfield, a

The Glass Menagerie – Amanda Wingfield If there is a signature character type that marks
Tennessee –Williams's dramatic work, it is undeniably that of the faded Southern belle. Amanda is a
clear representative of this type. In general, a Tennessee Williams faded belle is from a prominent
Southern family, has received a traditional upbringing, and has suffered a reversal of economic and
social fortune at some point in her life. Like Amanda, these women all have a hard time coming to
terms with their new status in society–and indeed, with modern society in general, which disregards
the social distinctions that they were taught to value. Their relationships with men and their families
are turbulent, and they staunchly defend the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike them, she is convinced that she is not doing so and, consequently, is constantly making
efforts to engage with people and the world outside her family. Amanda's monologues to her
children, on the phone, and to Jim all reflect quite clearly her moral and psychological failings, but
they are also some of the most colorful and unforgettable words in the play. The essence of
Amanda's character is caught in her first speech. She seems to need to nag at her children, especially
Tom, and she is not even aware that she is nagging. Essentially, she must have something to talk
about, and she nags at Tom about little things because she fears that she has lost or is losing him as
far as the big things, the significant things, in life are concerned. Amanda's sense of unreality is
caught in these first episodes as she lives in a world of servants and gentlemen callers. Always her
language suggests another time and place. Note that all of Amanda's so–called gentlemen callers
either came from the wealthy or became wealthy. The question will arise as to whether she actually
had these callers or not. Amanda might have been somewhat popular, but it is almost inconceivable
to believe that she actually did have as many as seventeen gentlemen callers. But what is important
is that Amanda now believes this story so strongly that the gentlemen callers have become a reality
for her. The scene ends again on

Kubrick And Lynch On The Patriarchy
Kubrick and Lynch on the Patriarchy
Stanley Kubrick's great breadth of work spans over forty–eight years, and due to both his longevity
and skill, he has influenced filmmakers from several generations. Kubrick has been named as a
creative influence for a myriad of filmmakers, including Steven Spielberg, Woody Allen, Terry
Gilliam, the Coen Brothers and Christopher Nolan [2,3]. Kubrick presents sensitive events in an
unbiased manner, withholding an opinion on the topic. By not offering a resolution or a stance, he
forces viewers to see the evils of man objectively. There is usually no punishment for the morally
corrupt acts, because that offers a more accurate portrayal of reality. Characters often do not fully
develop in Kubrick films, again as if to replicate reality. These unsettling techniques have left a clear
impression on the filmmaker David Lynch. His films often share a sense of amorality that goes
unpunished or unaddressed. Their respective world views are equally cynical, criticizing
traditionalism in society.
Arguably one of the most consistent links between Stanley Kubrick and David Lynch is their
portrayal of women in film. Stanley Kubrick does not choose to emphasize the struggles of being a
woman in a patriarchal society. Instead, he shows women through the patriarchal gaze. In A
Clockwork Orange, women are literally objectified, as plastic statues of naked women are used as
coffee tables in the Korova Milk Bar. This introduces the viewers to the protagonist,

Women in Combat
"I 'm an American soldier too"
Can a woman handle fighting in combat? Should women be able to come face to face with the
enemy? Will women be able to control their emotions and take the horror that war inflicts? Should
women be grateful that they are not included in such a terrible thing as combat, or is it wrong to
exclude them just because they are women? I say if a woman chooses this kind of challenge, then
she is more than capable.
During the daring rescue of prisoner of war Jessica Lynch from an Iraqi hospital, the first
commando to reach Lynch identified himself as a United States soldier. The 19–year–old Army
private replied, "I 'm an American soldier, too."

If a woman is not taken seriously, then how could she possibly achieve a role of leadership?
Excuse No. 3: Women have an adverse effect on male bonding and cohesion in a unit. People were
afraid the women might fall in love, or even get pregnant. However, Time has shown that military
units of mixed sexes have quietly maintained order, accomplished missions, and passed operational
readiness inspections with flying colors. They 're too busy doing their jobs to worry about who uses
which latrine. Desert Storm is a classic example of mixed units performing as cohesive and effective
teams even under fire.
Excuse No. 4: Captured women possibly will be raped and tortured. Women who choose to join the
military are already fully aware of this possibility. They become informed and prepared before they
complete basic training. Every soldier understands that becoming a POW means the possibility of
abuse and torture. As the experiences of Lynch and Spec. Shoshanna Johnson highlight, keeping
women out of combat positions — both were with the 507th Maintenance Company when captured
— does not protect them from becoming POWs and possibly facing this danger. Rape, of course, is
not a torture restricted by gender, nor is the determination to withstand whatever the enemy dishes
out. The qualities that are most important in all military jobs, things like integrity, moral courage and
determination, have nothing to do with gender.

Film Analysis: Mulholland Drive
In this essay, I will offer up my analysis on the film Mulholland Drive directed by David Lynch. The
best way to describe this film would be that it is an enigma. I had no idea what to make of this film
on my first viewing. After watching the film a few more times I believe I cracked the code. Lynch is
known for not speaking about the meaning of his films. He believes you should interpret the film
like you would interpret a work of art. Now I shall delve deep into the nightmare noir that is
Mulholland Drive. Mulholland Drive's plot is about a woman named Diane Selwyn who is having
some sort of emotional breakdown. The reason why she is in this horrible state become clearer as
the film moves forward. Her life has reached a breaking point that ... Show more content on

It involves two men that have nothing to do with Diane, but at the same time they have everything to

dusk or "half–night" as the man calls it. He tells his friend that in the dream, his friend is standing

prays he never sees outside of a dream. The friend then takes the man outside to get rid of his "god
awful feeling". As they approach the dumpster, the man sees the face of a horrifying hobo and then
falls down. It is implied that he suffered a heart attack. We never see those two men again, but the
hobo makes another appearance at the end. This sequence means that dreams can be a really good

Critique Of Characters In Cobalt Blue By Sachin Kundalkar
I put down Sachin Kundalkar's Cobalt Blue a couple of days ago and the characters continue to
haunt me. Kundalkar has so vividly painted them into my mind that they seem to have made a home
for themselves in there. Over the next couple of days, I have found myself reaching out for the book,
re–reading paragraphs at random and with every read I feel like I have opened a whole new world. I
have been musing at the simplicity and the beauty of the story, and I have concluded that no review
could ever do justice to the gem that is this work.
Cobalt Blue was originally written and published in Marathi by Sachin Kundalkar when he was only
22 years old (his age is of no importance, until you put down the book and realise that someone
wrote a book so profound and meaningful when he was at the same age as you). For almost ten
years the book remained a treasure to only those who spoke Marathi, till Jerry Pinto, at Shanta
Gokhale's request translated it into English. A lot is lost in translation, a fact that is acknowledged by
Pinto in his afterword. However, Pinto took extra care to retain the essence of the novel, which is
something that those who are not fluent in Marathi would appreciate. Teresa Lavender Fagan,
translator, says, "A translator must absorb the essence of a work, feel the author's soul and do what
she can to minimize what must necessarily be lost. The paradox of translation: the desire to replicate

Bank Of Americ An Ethical Dilemma
An ethical dilemma plays an important role in business. Ethical dilemma – moral situation where a

The same applies goes to Thain who deluded shareholders about financial problems in Merrill

Stranger Things Argumentative Essay
I Would Definitely Stay: Episodes 1–4 of Stranger Things Claim Evidence Warrant The poster child
of the Netflix originals is the show Stranger Things. Part of the appeal is nostalgia; like Happy Days
before it, the show is set in the childhood of the now middle–aged crowd. This group looks fondly at
this period in their lives, a sentiment reflected in the warm yellow–tinted lighting and the soundtrack
of 1980's Top 40. Another part of Stranger Things' appeal is the variety of elements to attract a
variety of viewers. While some may find the teenaged love triangle charming, others may be more
fond of the camaraderie between the boys or the overlying mystery. For such a good show, it does
have some flaws. One element that I believe is lacking,

PTL Club–The Harbinger of Things to Come?
1) To see how similar the cause of collapse of both Laventhol & Horwath and Andersen, let's
examine these two cases from two perspectives. a. From the clients' side
The last straw which led to the demise of these two CPA firm were PTL club to L&H and
Enron to Anderson. PTL Club had a very weak internal control. As it is pointed out in the case,
whenever Jim Bakker needed money, he could just simply make a board member introduce a
resolution for a bonus. Auditors could not find necessary documents to support expenses and
revenue. Compensation was excessive far beyond the regulation of IRS. (Louwers, 867–872) Enron

In the PTL Club case, red flags were obvious which included but not limited to hazards internal
control, far–beyond–reasonable lavish lifestyle of Jim and Tammy, and secret account. These red
flags were enough to trigger an in–depth investigation or extensive auditing procedures. However,
nothing was done until Mr. Baker's extramarital tryst. In this case, the only way to prevent such
behavior is to keep to the 10 basic Auditing Standards and improve the ethical awareness of the
profession.
4) AU Section 560 defines Subsequent Events as "events or transactions occur subsequent to the
balance–sheet date, but prior to the issuance of the financial statements, that has a material effect on
the financial statements and therefore require adjustment or disclosure in the statements."(AU
Section 560)
The time line of H&L's audit of PTL Club is: End of fiscal year (May 31, 1984), Audit
Completion Date (Dual dated as August 31, 1984 and October 24, 1984). Based on the timeline and
the above definition of subsequent events, I believe that it is a subsequent event. But whether
Deloitte needed to evaluate the sales occurring after the balance sheet date of May 31, 1984 depends
on the materiality of the over sales occurring during May 31, 1984 and October 24, 1984. It was said
that over sales occurred shortly after May 31, 1984. Then how big was the over sales between May
31, 1984 and October 24, 1984? Was the number material enough to subject to

Descriptive Essay About A Runaway Bird
The Runaway Bird
I stood there looking in through the bars on the cage, watching the birds fly around their cage. I
rested my hands on one of the metal bars on the cage as I watched my favorite bird, Sky , she was
the bird I got for my 12th birthday that year. Sky was a bird with blue feathers and white areas on its
stomach that looked like clouds. I loved to watch the birds play with each other. I was aloud to hold
them but I was not aloud to take them out of the cage without an adult around And my mom was
taking a nap. My mom has black curly hair and brown eyes. I stood there watching and listening to
the birds tweet, chirp, and play. I really wanted to hold one Sky to be exact. "I can hold Sky for a
few minutes and no one will know," I thought to myself, "I just have to be quiet and I can't tell
anyone." So I quickly scanned the room to make sure no one was there. As soon as I knew no one
was there I walked up to the cage. I put my hand on the cage lock and I looked up to find Sky so I
could get her. I slowly unlocked the cage and I quickly opened the door. As soon as I opened the
door a bird flew out. I shut the door as fast as I could and turned around panicking looking for the
bird. I searched every where and once I couldn't find it I panicked even more but just when I was
about to get up I heard a sound. CHIRP CHIRP. It was the bird sitting on top of the big, tall
bookcase.
I looked up at it panicking because the bookcase was too tall for me to reach the bird. I

Movie Analysis : Blue Velvet
The camera descends from a picture–perfect blue sky to a bed of red roses before a white picket
fence, opening with the lush colors of America. A fire engine rolls down an idyllic suburban street as
the firemen wave in slow–motion, a crossing guard directs schoolchildren, and a man waters his
front lawn, all to the tune of chirping birds and Bobby Vinton's romantic "Blue Velvet" song. This
could be the opening sequence to a convincing infomercial inviting American families to suburbia,
until something bizarre occurs. We close in on the man's hose mysteriously gargling and tangling,
and we witness him collapse from a brutal stroke. The camera then penetrates the slick grass and
reveals the teeming and voracious insects chewing away at a saturated version of small–town
America.
Lynch meets the conventions of Hollywood cinema within Blue Velvet, but transforms them all to
discover new truths. In what could have been a tired Hollywood cliché, the opening sequence
becomes a mutated vision of America with illness, insects, haunting noises, and a soundtrack
exploited of its innocence. A straightforward detective story, which could've been mistaken for
1950's film–noir, becomes a perverted exploration in which the detectives become participants in the
sordid underworld.
David Lynch's twisted use of visual motifs, as well as his disrupted narratives and dream logic easily
classify him as a surrealist, following in the tradition of Luis Buñuel or Salvador Dali. The severed

ATLANTA Critique
Ever heard of the show ATLANTA? Probably not, on the spectrum of things, it's a show on FX that
not many people knew about. And, if you did it was because Donald Glover was the main star of it.
Not to say that is the sole reason why people appreciated and watched the show, but it is a part of the
reason why.
Glover has not only played a part in COMMUNITY, but directed and produced the show itself. He
even has an "alter ego," as you would call it, called Childish Gambino who raps under the hip–hop
genre. Glover's life is in tip–top shape as far as his resume goes and he has had no issues with
finding a job. He recently, this year in fact, announced his new show ATLANTA. First thoughts
were confusing; the trailers did not tell much and maybe that was for the best thinking back on it
now.
The first episode premiered September 6th on FX at 9PM and from the beginning of the first
episode I knew this show was going to be something special. The show's minimalistic style, mixed
with the rap songs in the background make this show what it is. And, that is a minimalistic
masterpiece. The show adapted the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

ATLANTA makes a name for making this show about more than just race, and more than just being
black in America. This show depicts what it is to be an outcast, similarly to what TWIN PEAKS has
brought to the table in 1990. TWIN PEAKS brought to the table some of the most oddball characters

Movie Review : ' Daddy '
Jessica sat on the motel couch with her short legs dangling over the edge. She sat there watching
cartoons on the tv, which was secretly monitored by Cas. Jess's eyes brightened as soon as she heard
the door knob jiggle. Her uncle Dean stalked into the room and went straight to the mini fridge
without even a 'hey, kid'. Dean pulled out a beer. Sammy came in soon after. "Daddy!" Jess yelled,
then jumped off the bed to meet her father. Sam dropped his bags at the door and picked her up just
as she jumped into his arms. "Hi, sweetie!" He said and kissed her forehead. "You came back! Uncle
Dean and you were gone a LONG time!" Sam's mouth formed a slight frown. "I'm sorry, baby. We
had a BIG job. But it's all over now." He placed one more kiss on Jessica's head. Sam put his
daughter down. "Oh, guess what daddy!" She said. "What, sweetie?" He asked looking down at her.
"A nice lady came to visit while you were gone. She brought me ice cream!" Dean set his beer down
and turned around, giving Sammy a look, an "oh, shit" look. "What do you mean?" He asked in a
beyond concerned voice while crouching down to become eye level with his six year old, who put
her small hand up to her chin in her "thinking face". "She had brown hair, black eyes, and she said
her name was Ruby! She said you used to be friends, daddy." "She said her name was... Ruby?" Jess
nodded. "Yeah! She was really nice, daddy!" Sam looked over at his brother, Dean, who raised his

Lynch mob
After the news of the rustling of Drew's cattle and the murder of one of the rancher, Kinkaid, the
mob gets infuriated and decides to catch the culprit and hence, do justice. Though, aware of the
consequences of such posse, they agree to be a part of it because now they had someone to blame on
if something went wrong. There were people in the posse who opposed the lynching but any way
went ahead with due to the fear of rejection form the society or because they lacked the conscious to
keep a check on such an act.
Lynch mob as a literal concept is self–evident. Clark uses the mob as a form of criticism against the
lynching that occurred in 1870's to 1960's in the southern United States against the African–
American citizens. He also uses it to symbolise the corruption and the power play of the white in

He feels that law and justice are important to sustain a society and they must reflect the moral
conscience of the individuals. Conclusion The novel, The Ox Bow Incident, can be read at many
levels.
At one level, it deals with the inadequacies of the law in addressing to the question of justice and at
the same time highlights the importance of the law in a society as even in presence of inadequacies,
law is needed as it is better than a state of lawlessness.
Another interesting view put forth is that justice may not necessarily mean taking revenge and
punishing those who go against the society but it means that in doing so, the innocent must not
suffer and that every accused must be given an opportunity to fair trial and fair procedure in
determination of their guilt.
It also deals with the questions of morality and psychology of a person who assumes the position of
the judge while offering to judge the innocence or guilt of the accused and how the final holding is

Part One Of Red Roses and Pink Lips Taeyeon sunk herself into the waiting chair as she waited for
her turn to get styled. They had another photo shoot for Elle today, but somehow things moved
slower this time. There were no warm touches or cute giggles distracting her from all the waiting.
All she was left with was a makeup artist with a face too smug and unfriendly touches as she played
with the soft features of Taeyeon's skin, dabbing on the foundation a bit too roughly. She was left
alone with two other loud members in the dressing room, taking selcas of themselves, probably to be
posted online. Taeyeon resisted the urge to roll her eyes, not wanting to ruin her eye makeup. If
Tiffany was here, she would probably be taking selcas too, she thought. Tiffany is always taking
selcas. Either using her own phone or Taeyeon's. A soft smile quickly crept up at the curves of her
lips as she unlocked her phone, laughing at the display picture. It was a cross–eyed picture of a pre
debut Stephanie. Tiffany has beaten her over countless times to take down the picture, but it was too
precious. Her mischievous smile quickly turned into a bashful one as she remembered Tiffany
straddling her, revealing too much of her skin as she innocently tickled Taeyeon. "Kim Taeyeon, the
photographer's waiting for your close up shot." a bony woman called, pressing her lips into a
forceful smile. Taeyeon just answered with a curt nod before making her way to the set. Countless

Case Study: The Trial of Martha Stewart
Central Issue: Were Martha Stewart, Faneuil, and Peter Bacanovic actions of disclosing clients
confidential information and lying to the SEC proven to be ethical?
Recommended Course of Action: I recommend that Martha Stewart, Faneuil, and Peter Bacanovic
revisit Merrill Lynch Ethical Policy. That way they can better understand the meaning of employee
confidentiality and the security of client information. Also they can better establish the difference
between business professional and the friendship in which they had.
Basis for Recommendation: By familiarizing themselves with the ethical policy established by
Merrill Lynch, Martha Stewart, Faneuil and Peter Bacanovic would have been able to avoid the
course of action in which the case centered upon. It would have also prevented Martha Stewart from
having to pay the SEC, avoid the media frenzy and Peter Bacanovic would have still had his job

Science Fiction, Melodrama and Western Intersect in David Lynch's Dune
A genre is a grouping of works, in this context a grouping of films, that are somehow similar or
related in content or style. Genres are not strictly uniform over a period of time and do allow for
growth and adaptation of their definitive characteristics. As the film industry has developed through
the past century, various genres of films have emerged and are still evolving. Aspects of genres have
been redefined and intermingled through the history of film. There have also been, throughout the
progression of filmmaking, films which do not strictly fall into one genre or which combine
elements of several genres. David Lynch's 1984 film Dune is a fascinating case ... Show more

Melodrama, as a film genre, is deeply rooted in the institution of the family and various incarnations
and evolved states of the family unit. Familial issues arise more often in science fiction than has
been widely acknowledged. The futuristic universe of Dune and all of the action of the film is
motivated by inter– and intra familial conflicts and resolutions. Science fiction, at times, appears to
be merely a scientific or futuristic setting for the same kind of melodrama film that has been made
for years. However, according to Westfahl, "science fiction reconstructed melodrama in a manner
which complicated and undermined its traditional clarity" (193). Thus whereas in a melodrama such
as The Cobweb, the initial conflict of the narrative is merely left unresolved (but on an optimistic
beat), in the science fiction melodrama, the film is ended with "a hopelessly compromised happy
ending" (Westfahl, 203). Such is the case with Dune: as the film closes, rain pours down on the
desert planet. The rain is meant to represent a positive miracle and something that is desirable, but
the fact that rain would turn the desert sand to mud, potentially drowning and killing the giant
worms and thus ending all spice production is ignored. The ending leaves the film on a happy note,
but the ending has not resolved the film: it had added more conflict to be resolved. Dune is

Epistolary Novels and Mimetic Devices
CHAPTER FIVE: Epistolary Novels And Mimetic Devices
We have seen how the use of mimetic devices contributed to Still Alice and Turn of Mind. In
Chapter FIVE I explore the possibility of using Facebook, (a twenty first century mode of
communication), as a mimetic device to augment conventional prose fiction. In this chapter I want
to show how mimetic devices such as letters, bank statements and reports have already been used in
epistolary fiction so that I can consider their use as models for my own work.
I touch briefly on the history of the use of mimetic devices in the epistolary novel and go on to
discuss how mimetic devices in So Much For That , House Mother Normal and Flowers for
Algernon allow us to hear different voices and create texture. In SMFT chapters are headed with a
bank statement showing how illness drains people's savings. In HMN, each character is preceded by
a clinical report which includes their cognitive ability. FFA uses a diary or "progris report" to tell the
story. I discuss how these mimetic devices contribute to the story.
In the 18th century, letter writing took on great importance as a new mode of communication.
(Studying the Novel 2001) In Pamela by Richardson, letters between Pamela and her family are
used to tell the story of Pamela's resistance to seduction by her employer. The reader is puzzled by
the sudden cessation of Pamela's family's replies to her letters, only to find that this is because

Jessica begins the novel with power and independence, but slowly fades into the background after

Film Analysis Of The Birds
Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 thriller, The Birds, is known as an apocalyptic masterpiece. Advertising
campaigns screamed, "The Birds is Coming" to entice the people into watching the movie. The
reason for birds all of species flocking together to kill and to cause chaos still goes unknown today.
Tippi Hedren and Rod Taylor star in this disastrous horror film that throws the viewer for a loop at
the end of all the slaughtering and disorder in a small ordinary town in California. Through choosing
a specific setting and dynamic characterization, Alfred Hitchcock shows that nature cannot be
controlled and can lead to your own demise.

She turns off the engine as she gets close to the Brenner house and sneaks in while Mitch is outside.
The lovebird and a note to Cathy is left in the living room. The camera shows Melanie crouched

through binoculars searching for the person who left the gift. Mitch sees Melanie, begins waving,
and jumps into his truck to meet her back at the dock. Melanie is almost at the dock when a gull

progresses and worsens through the rest of the movie.
The setting, Bodega Bay, California, is a small city north of San Francisco, where mostly everyone
knows each other. In 1963, the town was somewhat remote which made for a perfect reason to use.

residents adding to the horror. Being that the town is a beach town, it gave an open sky view and flat

ones), and then Abigail with all of the code black situations she's a trauma surgeon (her job is
complex).

as I was at the library I meet this girl named Susan, I and her talked for hours she stayed in 131, and
I could tell something was wrong with her, but I wasn't quite sure what but I was determined to find
out.
"what wrong it looks like something is bugging," I asked hoping for an answer
"yeah it's my stupid boyfriend my sister and her ex and my friend Jan," Susan said with a sad look
on her face.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"it's just that my sister blames me for her and her boyfriend breaking up and my boyfriend thinks I'm
cheating on him with my sister's ex–boyfriend and my friend can think is being over dramatic." She
explained to me
"where are you sister and boyfriend staying?" I asked in the most sincere voice. My sister is staying
132 and my boyfriend is staying in 145 and where are you staying?" Susan asked
"Oh I'm in 300 and who is you sisters ex"
"Christopher Glenn" she answered
"hey I know him, but not at a personal level, " I said
"Yeah well it was really nice meeting you," Susan said.
"Yeah I'll see you later," I said.

Who Is Winston In 1984
There are always two sides to every story and that's either the truth or the false of a story, you can't
always predict that the Government is saying the truth because now the Government can tell a story
that is completely the opposite from the actual story. In the novel 1984 by George Orwell , the
character Winston is part of the outer party and he works for Big Brother he is in charge to remove
every information that is incorrect or the info that Big Brother doesn't want the proles to see.
Winston then creates Comrade Ogilvy and considered him to be an admiring person. Pat Tillman
and Jessica Lynch both serve in the military and where in an major accident that the Government
considered them a hero for what they did.

"At the age of three Comrade ogilvy refused all toys except a drum, a submachine gun, and a model

Pat Tillman was born to Mary and Patrick Tillman on November 6 1976 in San Jose, California.
Tillman excelled at football while attending Leland High School, where he led his team to the
Central Coast Division I Football Championship. Tillman's considerable talent landed him a
scholarship to Arizona State University. Tillman then decides to put his football career on a break to
join the U.S military with his younger brother Kevin.(Pat Tillman) The Government has made of a
false story of Pat Tillman's death saying that he was killed on April 22,2004 in action while in a
canyon in eastern Afghanistan. The first reports indicated that he was shot during a clash with
enemy forces during an ambush. The military didn't want to answer many questions that his family
would ask at the time that Tillman had died until a week later they began to say the official story of
Pat Tillman. In addition he was recognized to his Purple Heart and Silver Star from the military. (Pat

College Narrative

  • 1. College Narrative It was roughly five fifteen in the morning when the sun began to crest its golden crown over the awakening Hudson River and the far off New Jersey Palisades. A starless night sky seemed deliberately transformed with pink, orange, purple and red gauzy stripes, casting a warm wash over the sleeping earth. I gazed skyward as I stood near the medieval bell tower at the Cloisters, and my eyes reflected the awe–inspiring beauty. That dawn was one of many, when I found myself tramping deliberately up the forested hills of Fort Tryon Park. As I stood at the summit, I inhaled the sanctity of my surroundings and felt my soul being cleansed by the peaceful soundscape. Gazing at the vast canvas that was the sky, the predictable chimes of the church bells ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I avoided all eye–contact with my fellow riders, as was the unspoken rule of subway survival. The monotony of the dirty, silent underground tunnels was only interrupted by pre–recorded announcements of the various stops, the screeching of wheels and the rushing of harried passengers. At the Wall Street stop, I pried myself out of the subway car, shoving through the hoards of people queuing at the turnstiles. Arriving at World Financial Center, I passed through security and rode the metallic, grey elevator up to the 32nd floor where my office resided. I mentally steeled myself for the brutally wearisome hours ahead of me, slaving away on the computer in a dimly–lit, carpeted grey ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Summary Of Bank Of America Acquisition Of Merrill Lynca Case Analysis; Bank of America Acquisition of Merrill Lynch Executive summary Bank of America acquired Merrill Lynch in 2008. There were challenges that followed the acquisition. The following paper is an analysis of some of the challenges that transpired at the time. There is the statement of the problem and a proposition on how the management can handle it. The paper then outlines what could have caused the problem and goes ahead to give solutions to those problems. There are the recommendations of how to permanently solve those problems at the end of the paper (Grant, 2016). Background Between the 13th and 14th of September 2008, the Bank of America and Merrill Lynch entered a deal which would see the former acquire the latter. It was one of the biggest deals to have ever happened in the corporate world. Despite the signing of the deal, there was a host of problems that followed it (Davis, 2008). There are questions that emerged later, and they still demand answers. The current paper seeks to identify the problems that emerged as a result of the acquisition and propose solutions. Statement of the problem Unhappy and unsatisfied employees of the two entities who feel they were not involved. Angry shareholders who want an explanation as to why things are the way they are. They do not understand why the share price is falling in the stock market (Davis, 2008). The main cause of the problem was the hasty acquisition of Merrill Lynch. Alfred As The Master Of Suspense In The Climbing Frame Scene In The Film The Birds 'The Birds' is a film made in the 1960's based on the short story 'The Birds' by Daphne Du Maurier. The film was directed by Alfred Hitchcock, a British born director who is known for other tense, suspense filled films such as 'Psycho' and 'Vertigo'. Due to the extensive special effects of the film, it took three years to make. During the film Hitchcock created several suspense filled, tense scenes. Including the 'Climbing Frame' scene. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The weather is sunny and it is quiet. From this single camera shot we see Melanie in her car driving down the road with the Bodega Bay School in the distance. Here, Hitchcock is trying to give the impression that everything is normal. The sky is blue and the roads are clear. Nothing indicating anything out of the ordinary is shown. Melanie arrives at the school, parks her car and gets out. We hear young voices singing and innocent children's song. We can see, with the camera behind Melanie, her car and the entrance of the Bodega Bay School Melanie walks up the stairs and enters the school. The sound in this early part of the scene is very direct –by the means of everything is given to the audience. We ear the young children's voices singing an innocent school song. Immediately, when we hear the young children singing it gives the children naivety, by using the song as a symbol of innocence. As she opens the door of the school we find out it is the school children who are singing this song. Melanie opens the inner door of the school and volume of the song increases. This increases the symbolism of innocence on the children. When Melanie looks into the classroom, she distracts a few children from their singing. Melanie looks up, and we see Annie – the schoolteacher at the front of the class directing the children. Annie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Personal Narrative : Effortless Driving Surviving birth Life in the womb was getting tiring for a certain fetus. "Soon to be expected" was considered too long of a wait for her. One January day, Jessica decided it was time to pop out of the womb. This caused many complications between her mother and her. She was born premature and had trouble breathing. She was kept in an intensive care unit for a couple of days. After a week she was healthy and able to go home to meet her family. Confidence As little Jessica began to go to school, she was somewhat introverted. Fellow pupils were gravitated towards her. She was considered popular, although she rarely spoke. One day she convinced her parent to let her join cheerleading. In cheer, you have to have confidence on the floor, in the field, and in front of hundreds of people. This forced her to come out of her shell and made her feel self– assured. This led to Jessica to become comfortable with giving speeches in class and having random conversations with strangers. Effortless driving? Now at the age of sixteen, Jessica is ready to start learning how to drive. She was always fascinated by how people drove and how they parked in narrow spaces. It's finally her turn to be behind the wheel. The first time she drove on the road was pretty good and her vertical parking was perfect. The real challenge was learning to parallel parking. Parallel parking was not her forte on the first try. After taking a month break of parking; she tried again and managed to perfectly parallel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am twenty years old and currently attend Illinois Central College (ICC). I have a mother, a father, and two older siblings. I have lived in Germantown Hills, Illinois my entire life and have never moved into a different home. Both of my parents have taught in the past and are both currently coaching at Metamora Township High School. They pushed me to excel in school and sports during my high school career. My passion during high school was football and wrestling. Unfortunately, I got injured multiple times and could not continue participation in them. It was very difficult to go through that, and it still is hard for me to contend with my injuries. After getting injured, my primary focus became my grades and pushing myself to do the best as possible. During my last semester in high school, I received a 4.1 GPA. During that time, I was on the Student Council Board and was the Class President all four years. I enjoyed helping my school, but I would do anything to be a part of ... • 11. Analysis Of The Article 'The Private Jessica Lynch' By... The article "The Private Jessica Lynch" by Nancy Gibbs, from Time, is a retelling of Jessica's capture. Jessica's strength and faith is admirable. Everything we take for granted is a victory for her. Walking forty steps by herself is a victory. She was captured and beaten within an inch of her life, yet her spirit remained unbroken. Jessica remained undefeated as she stood up against the media, questioning every mistake made during her tour. She keeps her spirits high, for all those soldiers who couldn't come home, who weren't given a chance to recover. Gibbs gave the world a new perspective on Jessica Lynch, a view of the Jessica no one knew, the private version, the one that was hidden away from years of being in the service, the version of herself that was reserved only for her family and friends. The world met the real Jessica Lynch through this article. The author tried to make Lynch by originally calling her Jessica, and then shifting her name to Jessi, giving her a more human aspect. The author gathered her information from primary sources, such as Jessica and her family. By using a primary source, her information is correct. She went right to the place where all the action was happening, Jessica's hometown, Palestine. The author's most successful writing strategies were visualization and description. • 13. Summary Of The Glass Mengotie And The Glass Menagerie "Free as a bird. It's the next best thing to be... What ever happened to the life we once knew? Always made me feel so free!" This song, by the Beatles, shares the well known idea of being free as a bird. Since the beginning of time, mankind has wondered what it would feel like to fly, to travel around the world, and to be free. Humans have idolised the talents of birds for this reason. They can go wherever, whenever, and always seem happy soaring through the sky at their own leisure. While birds used to all roam free, now, approximately 3,700,000 of the 8,300,000 birds are being kept as household pets in the United States according to www.avma.org. That's about 44% of the birds in the United States that are kept in cages. Naturally, these birds yearn to fly free and be happy, but instead they are trapped in tiny cages, or, for the lucky ones, some are thrown in a cage as big as a living room television. This feeling of being trapped is how Tom Wingfield from The Glass Menagerie and Mamie from the poem "Mamie" feel. In the Glass Menagerie and the poem "Mamie," respectively, Tom Wingfield and Mamie both feel trapped in their horrible, hated lives. All Tom and Mamie want is to be happy and feel free, but they can't because they are trapped in their society's social disadvantages. In the Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, Tom Wingfield is living the disadvantageous life of the 1930s. At this time, the Great Depression has begun and WWII is on the way. Tom Wingfield, a ... • 15. The Glass Menagerie The Glass Menagerie – Amanda Wingfield If there is a signature character type that marks Tennessee –Williams's dramatic work, it is undeniably that of the faded Southern belle. Amanda is a clear representative of this type. In general, a Tennessee Williams faded belle is from a prominent Southern family, has received a traditional upbringing, and has suffered a reversal of economic and social fortune at some point in her life. Like Amanda, these women all have a hard time coming to terms with their new status in society–and indeed, with modern society in general, which disregards the social distinctions that they were taught to value. Their relationships with men and their families are turbulent, and they staunchly defend the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike them, she is convinced that she is not doing so and, consequently, is constantly making efforts to engage with people and the world outside her family. Amanda's monologues to her children, on the phone, and to Jim all reflect quite clearly her moral and psychological failings, but they are also some of the most colorful and unforgettable words in the play. The essence of Amanda's character is caught in her first speech. She seems to need to nag at her children, especially Tom, and she is not even aware that she is nagging. Essentially, she must have something to talk about, and she nags at Tom about little things because she fears that she has lost or is losing him as far as the big things, the significant things, in life are concerned. Amanda's sense of unreality is caught in these first episodes as she lives in a world of servants and gentlemen callers. Always her language suggests another time and place. Note that all of Amanda's so–called gentlemen callers either came from the wealthy or became wealthy. The question will arise as to whether she actually had these callers or not. Amanda might have been somewhat popular, but it is almost inconceivable to believe that she actually did have as many as seventeen gentlemen callers. But what is important is that Amanda now believes this story so strongly that the gentlemen callers have become a reality for her. The scene ends again on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Kubrick And Lynch On The Patriarchy Kubrick and Lynch on the Patriarchy Stanley Kubrick's great breadth of work spans over forty–eight years, and due to both his longevity and skill, he has influenced filmmakers from several generations. Kubrick has been named as a creative influence for a myriad of filmmakers, including Steven Spielberg, Woody Allen, Terry Gilliam, the Coen Brothers and Christopher Nolan [2,3]. Kubrick presents sensitive events in an unbiased manner, withholding an opinion on the topic. By not offering a resolution or a stance, he forces viewers to see the evils of man objectively. There is usually no punishment for the morally corrupt acts, because that offers a more accurate portrayal of reality. Characters often do not fully develop in Kubrick films, again as if to replicate reality. These unsettling techniques have left a clear impression on the filmmaker David Lynch. His films often share a sense of amorality that goes unpunished or unaddressed. Their respective world views are equally cynical, criticizing traditionalism in society. Arguably one of the most consistent links between Stanley Kubrick and David Lynch is their portrayal of women in film. Stanley Kubrick does not choose to emphasize the struggles of being a woman in a patriarchal society. Instead, he shows women through the patriarchal gaze. In A Clockwork Orange, women are literally objectified, as plastic statues of naked women are used as coffee tables in the Korova Milk Bar. This introduces the viewers to the protagonist, ... • 19. Women in Combat "I 'm an American soldier too" Can a woman handle fighting in combat? Should women be able to come face to face with the enemy? Will women be able to control their emotions and take the horror that war inflicts? Should women be grateful that they are not included in such a terrible thing as combat, or is it wrong to exclude them just because they are women? I say if a woman chooses this kind of challenge, then she is more than capable. During the daring rescue of prisoner of war Jessica Lynch from an Iraqi hospital, the first commando to reach Lynch identified himself as a United States soldier. The 19–year–old Army private replied, "I 'm an American soldier, too." Jessica Lynch is more than a soldier, she 's a symbol, too — one who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a woman is not taken seriously, then how could she possibly achieve a role of leadership? Excuse No. 3: Women have an adverse effect on male bonding and cohesion in a unit. People were afraid the women might fall in love, or even get pregnant. However, Time has shown that military units of mixed sexes have quietly maintained order, accomplished missions, and passed operational readiness inspections with flying colors. They 're too busy doing their jobs to worry about who uses which latrine. Desert Storm is a classic example of mixed units performing as cohesive and effective teams even under fire. Excuse No. 4: Captured women possibly will be raped and tortured. Women who choose to join the military are already fully aware of this possibility. They become informed and prepared before they complete basic training. Every soldier understands that becoming a POW means the possibility of abuse and torture. As the experiences of Lynch and Spec. Shoshanna Johnson highlight, keeping women out of combat positions — both were with the 507th Maintenance Company when captured — does not protect them from becoming POWs and possibly facing this danger. Rape, of course, is not a torture restricted by gender, nor is the determination to withstand whatever the enemy dishes out. The qualities that are most important in all military jobs, things like integrity, moral courage and determination, have nothing to do with gender. On the day of March 23rd, 2003, the 507th ... • 21. Film Analysis: Mulholland Drive In this essay, I will offer up my analysis on the film Mulholland Drive directed by David Lynch. The best way to describe this film would be that it is an enigma. I had no idea what to make of this film on my first viewing. After watching the film a few more times I believe I cracked the code. Lynch is known for not speaking about the meaning of his films. He believes you should interpret the film like you would interpret a work of art. Now I shall delve deep into the nightmare noir that is Mulholland Drive. Mulholland Drive's plot is about a woman named Diane Selwyn who is having some sort of emotional breakdown. The reason why she is in this horrible state become clearer as the film moves forward. Her life has reached a breaking point that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He tells his friend that in the dream, his friend is standing over by the cashier while he is sitting down. He then says that he sees a horrifying face outside. He prays he never sees outside of a dream. The friend then takes the man outside to get rid of his "god awful feeling". As they approach the dumpster, the man sees the face of a horrifying hobo and then falls down. It is implied that he suffered a heart attack. We never see those two men again, but the hobo makes another appearance at the end. This sequence means that dreams can be a really good thing, (Diane's dream of being an actress) but they can also get you killed or lead to pain and misfortune. The hobo represents the ... Use an example of a real–life firm and discuss how its corporate culture blends with its organizational architecture. Organizational architecture and corporate culture should be intertwined within any successful company or organization. • 25. Critique Of Characters In Cobalt Blue By Sachin Kundalkar I put down Sachin Kundalkar's Cobalt Blue a couple of days ago and the characters continue to haunt me. Kundalkar has so vividly painted them into my mind that they seem to have made a home for themselves in there. Over the next couple of days, I have found myself reaching out for the book, re–reading paragraphs at random and with every read I feel like I have opened a whole new world. I have been musing at the simplicity and the beauty of the story, and I have concluded that no review could ever do justice to the gem that is this work. Cobalt Blue was originally written and published in Marathi by Sachin Kundalkar when he was only 22 years old (his age is of no importance, until you put down the book and realise that someone wrote a book so profound and meaningful when he was at the same age as you). For almost ten years the book remained a treasure to only those who spoke Marathi, till Jerry Pinto, at Shanta Gokhale's request translated it into English. A lot is lost in translation, a fact that is acknowledged by Pinto in his afterword. However, Pinto took extra care to retain the essence of the novel, which is something that those who are not fluent in Marathi would appreciate. Teresa Lavender Fagan, translator, says, "A translator must absorb the essence of a work, feel the author's soul and do what she can to minimize what must necessarily be lost. She was kept in an intensive care unit for a couple of days. After a week, they deemed her healthy enough to be able to go home with her parents to meet the remainder of her family. I rested my hands on one of the metal bars on the cage as I watched my favorite bird, Sky , she was the bird I got for my 12th birthday that year. Sky was a bird with blue feathers and white areas on its stomach that looked like clouds. I loved to watch the birds play with each other. I was aloud to hold them but I was not aloud to take them out of the cage without an adult around And my mom was taking a nap. My mom has black curly hair and brown eyes. • 45. Movie Analysis : Blue Velvet The camera descends from a picture–perfect blue sky to a bed of red roses before a white picket fence, opening with the lush colors of America. A fire engine rolls down an idyllic suburban street as the firemen wave in slow–motion, a crossing guard directs schoolchildren, and a man waters his front lawn, all to the tune of chirping birds and Bobby Vinton's romantic "Blue Velvet" song. This could be the opening sequence to a convincing infomercial inviting American families to suburbia, until something bizarre occurs. We close in on the man's hose mysteriously gargling and tangling, and we witness him collapse from a brutal stroke. The camera then penetrates the slick grass and reveals the teeming and voracious insects chewing away at a saturated version of small–town America. Lynch meets the conventions of Hollywood cinema within Blue Velvet, but transforms them all to discover new truths. In what could have been a tired Hollywood cliché, the opening sequence becomes a mutated vision of America with illness, insects, haunting noises, and a soundtrack exploited of its innocence. A straightforward detective story, which could've been mistaken for 1950's film–noir, becomes a perverted exploration in which the detectives become participants in the sordid underworld. David Lynch's twisted use of visual motifs, as well as his disrupted narratives and dream logic easily classify him as a surrealist, following in the tradition of Luis Buñuel or Salvador Dali. She was left alone with two other loud members in the dressing room, taking selcas of themselves, probably to be posted online. Recommended Course of Action: I recommend that Martha Stewart, Faneuil, and Peter Bacanovic revisit Merrill Lynch Ethical Policy. That way they can better understand the meaning of employee confidentiality and the security of client information. Also they can better establish the difference between business professional and the friendship in which they had. Basis for Recommendation: By familiarizing themselves with the ethical policy established by Merrill Lynch, Martha Stewart, Faneuil and Peter Bacanovic would have been able to avoid the course of action in which the case centered upon. It would have also prevented Martha Stewart from having to pay the SEC, avoid the media frenzy and Peter Bacanovic would have still had his job with Merrill Lynch. ... • 59. Science Fiction, Melodrama and Western Intersect in David... Science Fiction, Melodrama and Western Intersect in David Lynch's Dune A genre is a grouping of works, in this context a grouping of films, that are somehow similar or related in content or style. Genres are not strictly uniform over a period of time and do allow for growth and adaptation of their definitive characteristics. As the film industry has developed through the past century, various genres of films have emerged and are still evolving. Aspects of genres have been redefined and intermingled through the history of film. There have also been, throughout the progression of filmmaking, films which do not strictly fall into one genre or which combine elements of several genres. David Lynch's 1984 film Dune is a fascinating case ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Melodrama, as a film genre, is deeply rooted in the institution of the family and various incarnations and evolved states of the family unit. Familial issues arise more often in science fiction than has been widely acknowledged. The futuristic universe of Dune and all of the action of the film is motivated by inter– and intra familial conflicts and resolutions. Science fiction, at times, appears to be merely a scientific or futuristic setting for the same kind of melodrama film that has been made for years. However, according to Westfahl, "science fiction reconstructed melodrama in a manner which complicated and undermined its traditional clarity" (193). Thus whereas in a melodrama such as The Cobweb, the initial conflict of the narrative is merely left unresolved (but on an optimistic beat), in the science fiction melodrama, the film is ended with "a hopelessly compromised happy ending" (Westfahl, 203). Such is the case with Dune: as the film closes, rain pours down on the desert planet. The rain is meant to represent a positive miracle and something that is desirable, but the fact that rain would turn the desert sand to mud, potentially drowning and killing the giant worms and thus ending all spice production is ignored. The ending leaves the film on a happy note, but the ending has not resolved the film: it had added more conflict to be resolved. Dune is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Epistolary Novels and Mimetic Devices CHAPTER FIVE: Epistolary Novels And Mimetic Devices We have seen how the use of mimetic devices contributed to Still Alice and Turn of Mind. In Chapter FIVE I explore the possibility of using Facebook, (a twenty first century mode of communication), as a mimetic device to augment conventional prose fiction. In this chapter I want to show how mimetic devices such as letters, bank statements and reports have already been used in epistolary fiction so that I can consider their use as models for my own work. I touch briefly on the history of the use of mimetic devices in the epistolary novel and go on to discuss how mimetic devices in So Much For That , House Mother Normal and Flowers for Algernon allow us to hear different voices and create texture. In SMFT chapters are headed with a bank statement showing how illness drains people's savings. In HMN, each character is preceded by a clinical report which includes their cognitive ability. FFA uses a diary or "progris report" to tell the story. I discuss how these mimetic devices contribute to the story. In the 18th century, letter writing took on great importance as a new mode of communication. (Studying the Novel 2001) In Pamela by Richardson, letters between Pamela and her family are used to tell the story of Pamela's resistance to seduction by her employer. The reader is puzzled by the sudden cessation of Pamela's family's replies to her letters, only to find that this is because Pamela's employer has insisted on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I groggily opened my eyes to a woman in a lab coat standing in the doorway, speaking with someone who's face I could not see. I tried to sit up, but all I felt was a distant pain. I laid back down. My chest felt like it was closing in, and a weight was sitting on my throat. My knee was covered in gauze and an assortment of other bandages. A taped cotton ball covered up a bruise on my left wrist, with a white bracelet on the other. I took in my surroundings: a pale blue curtain, half opened around the bed, a chair, and a small window, indicating it was morning from the sun peaking through into the room. I couldn't remember what had happened that brought me here, but everything before that was crystal clear. ✦✦✦ It was just like any other start–of–summer vacation for our family.
