as to why I am interested and passionate about organizing this activity which is line dancing is
because I believe that this activity can help a lot of at risk teenagers. The cape flats is known to be
filled with gangs, violence, drugs and other harmful issues and by organizing line dancing I hope
that it will help teenagers have a choice in their lives other than violence, drugs etc. Line dancing is
a healthy alternative which teaches many skills and lessons. I would love if Easy–Save Supermarket

Ballet Research Paper
What would the world do without dancing? Many styles of this art form are spread from different
cultures around the world, and are performed all over. Cha Cha, samba, ballroom, swing, disco, and
break dance are all unique forms of dance that are performed, but the one with the most class and
rich history is ballet. The elements the combine to form a dance culture include the origin, the music
involved, and the classes of dancers. These dance styles contain different components, but ballet is
an older, more moving, art form that contains graceful dances set to classical music versus break
dancing, which is more modern with sharp movements set to hip hop. Ballet has many defining
characteristics which include the origin, dancer styles, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Breakdancing is a much newer style that has been around for less than a century. It originated in the
1970s in the Bronx, New York with the streets as a stage. Afrika Bambaataa was credited for
forming one of the earliest dance crews entitles the Zulu Kings (From Street to Dance). They earned
a reputation with their breakdancing circles, and then more people joined in, and from there, the
style started to evolve. More well known groups such as the Rock Steady Crew of New York City
helped in surging the popularity of breakdancing in low income communities and urban areas. In
pop culture, many interpretations such as youth alternative and violent gangs have evolved to merge
into a R&B funk classification. It is less planned out, and more improvised based on the rhythm to
where there is a named style entitled "freestyle" (Art of Funk). Short, sharp motions make up the
majority of the terms derived from slang. Hip–hop music is used, and unlike classical, it has lyrics
that can be used to convey a message. Living below the poverty line used to the main theme, but as
it evolved, dances became more about drugs, partying, how amazing the artist is. The original
meaning was driven out by pop culture and the desire for validation. Starting from the streets of the
Bronx, breakdancing has evolved to a less meaningful art form that has grown in widespread

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Revelations
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, who was later also known as Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, was born in 1840
in Russia. He was the first Russian who got an international fame due to his music in the classical
repertoire. Regarding our essay, we have chosen the song which is originally composed by
Tchaikovsky and then later in 1895, Ivanov along with Petipa revised the Swan Lake.
The choreography of Swan lake–The Kirov Ballet basically focuses on is the Revelations and
Bacchanale. Revelation is the dance that I like the most, however, Baccanale is my least favorite
dance. To me, the dance symbolizes the parson's socialization in western civilization concerning
roles of gender. In the past era, there was a gesture that was separated from full–embodiment and
emotion, but with the passage of time, those gestures become more recognizable and meaningful.
People move with the rhythm of the music, which is known as Dance. It is also known as art
performance that contains organized and selected movements of the human body. There are several
kinds of dance such as informal, professional performance, and ritual performance. The dance
involves several moves of the body with the music in the specific space to express emotions,
feelings of joy or an idea to get delighted by the body movements and also with the purpose to
release energy.
Revelations
"Revelations" is my most favorite dance and it was first performed by the Alvin Ailey in American
Dance Theatre and is known as three–section dance. The reason why it fascinates me a lot is that
each section of this dance focus and display distinct factors that the people (Africans Americans)
affected since the era of slavery and it is still present to fight for their rights. The theme of this dance
is a unity that is showcased in every piece that was controversial in America because of racial
discrimination. "Pilgrim of Sorrow" is the first section of this dance that is opened with a group of
dancers. The dancers are in harmony using their arms in alegato tempo to create angular shapes. The
dancers constantly moved and separated separately, but in the other step they would come back as
one unit and become coordinated where they extended their long arms upwards. Their hands in the
air seem

Asante and Samoan Dancing
Two dances that I chose to compare and contrast were Asante and Samoan. These two cultures are
very interesting to learn about and both of their dances were very entertaining to watch. They had
their similarities and differences, but ultimately had one goal when performing and that was to
exude joy and entertain those who were watching while they performed with their cultures
throughout their dance. While wearing their detailed costumes, they both had very fast movements
along to the beat of a drum mainly. When they were both dancing for the videos that I watched, they
were having fun while performing and that is what made the crowd enjoy it even more because ...

It is also part of their culture to pass down the dances and music to the next generations so that they
can perform it for their culture and then pass it down to their generations to come.
Samoans believe there are three main components to life: faith, family and music. This is often
reflected in their dancing, which aims to keep tradition alive while still involving the ever–changing
viewpoints of younger generations (Warta). Today in North America, most dance originating from
Samoa is found in traditional competitions. Many are hosted by the Polynesian Cultural Center in
ocean–bordering states like Hawaii and Florida (Warta). This I found interesting and very fun that
we can still see Samoan dances still being performed and displaying their culture while making it
competitive. Samoans base their culture on a hierarchy as well and the highest would be the chief
which they call the "Matai". Then it goes down from their and based on their family reputation and
role within the village as well. Samoan dances are most often large, group dances with many women
and men (Siva). In group dances, the performers are generally arranged in rows and columns,
although different arrangements are becoming more common and are entirely up to the different
style or dance for that specific time. Performers are both male and female and they can perform
most dance types in mixed company or in distinct gender groups (Warta). However,

As part of "Dance Houston 2013", the "Ndani" was performed on April sixth of the year two
thousands and thirteen at the Wortham center. The dance executed by a group of eight young
dancers, among which Otis Berry, was choreographed by Shaté Edwards. Miss Edwards has an
engaged, skillful, and powerful style. Her background includes jazz, tap, stepping, modern and
more. She is a Houston, Texas native, who attended college in Atlanta, Georgia, and has performed a
lot in the U.S and China and has participated in numerous productions. The "Ndani" is performed by
a group of eight dancers composed of seven females and one male. The dancers are all wearing
shirts with sleeves rolled up to the elbows and pants also with the bottom rolled up to about the
middle of the tibia; females are wearing a tie while the male has a waistcoat on. The dance is
executed without any soundtrack; the rhythm is given by the taps of the dancers on the floor of the
stage and on their own body; some words are often sporadically pronounced with or without
forming a complete sentence. The dance begins with a dark stage, and only the taps and claps of ...

Bandari Dance In Persian Culture
The Persian culture, one of the most prominent cultures in the world, has gone through many phases
throughout the history. Their largest empire in the history of the world, their extraordinary
engineering capabilities, and their inventions in arts and science are some of the most remarkable
qualities that have made what the Persian culture is today. Art of dance has been a part of this
ancient culture for a long time and it plays a significant role even until this day. There are countless
different Persian dancing styles such as the Baba Karam, Bandari and Choob Bazi. My research will
be focused on specifically Bandari dance. I'll be providing information on the history of this
particular dance style and how it plays a role in the art of dance of the Persian culture. Bandari
dance is a very well–known dance in the Persian culture that and has been a part of it for a long
time. Bandari dance is performed alongside Bandari music. The term "Bandari" in Farsi means
harbor or port, which is why this type of dance and music stem from Southern Iran and around the
Persian Gulf, where this type of dance is also more common. Due to the exposure of this area to
trade with the neighboring countries, this dance has been influenced by the African and the Arab
culture. Because I am personally from the Capital of Iran, Tehran, this type of dance wasn't as
common as other styles of dancing. Bandari was mainly performed at special events such as
weddings where I'm from, whereas in the South

The group that I have chosen to identify with is the Franklin and Marshall Dance Company. The
company is comprised of over 50 dancers and is supervised by three authoritative professors. Each
fall, new choreographers are recruited by the company to each their choreographies, or
reconstruction works of other choreographers, in the Fall Dance Concert. Each spring, the students
have the opportunity to choreograph their own pieces for the Spring Dance Concert. These student
choreographed pieces either presented in the concert, which runs for three days, or in the Show case,
held only on a Sunday. During the spring choreography, each choreographer contends with the
corresponding choreographers to secure a spot in the concert, which galvanizes competition,
hostility, and tension. Conclusively, however, akin to any other campus organization, we, the
members of the company, share solidarity with each other with regards to certain ideas and
acceptable behaviors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an underclassmen, compliance runs throughout the company; complying with the orders and
mentalities of those who serve as the agents. The notion of compliance creates an inequitable

expulsion if the compliance is disobeyed. For example, a dancer I performed with last year for a
senior piece refused to comply with her senior dancer by constantly castigating her style of dance
and movements. She was eventually excluded from the group, in the form of expulsion, and
consequently faced both informal and formal sanctions; informal sanctions by the dancers in the
company and formal sanctions by the head executive board of the company who regulates, oversees,

Comparing Two Types Of Samoan Sasa And Turkish Dance
Dancing is popular around the world, especially the minorities, they love using dance to express
their feeling. This essay will compare and contrast two types of dance: Samoan Sasa and Turkish
folk dance. It will discuss what these dances are, who dances them, where, when and why they
dance. Samoan Sasa and Turkish folk dance are both filled with a variety of people that dancing as a
group. However, Turkish folk dance has more women than men, and the costumes that people dress
are beautiful and colorful. On the contrary, Samoan Sasa has few women than men, and their
costumes are not bright color, they generally only wear shorts. So where do so many people dance?
Turkish folk dance is origin from Turkey. Samoan Sasa is origin from Samoa. The places of two
dances are similar. People dance on the stage, school field, sport filed, even everywhere. We can

Samoan Sasa use their hands to clap heavily on the ground, legs, arms. People normally performed
sitting down, but there are parts of the dace which require the group to stand up. Also, they will
always use their hand through the air. For example, the movement will look like the fish swimming
in the water, the bird flying in the air, people cooking in the kitchen, cleaning the house, and so on.
Samoan loves to combine their daily life with their dance. It is really interesting. People also sing
and shout loudly and energetically to make their dance more powerful. Turkish folk dance is
completely different with Samoan Sasa. People will not stop kicking their feet through the whole
dance. They jump, shake, move and communicate all the time. Sometimes they dance as a group,
sometimes they dance as a line. It looks more complex, changeable and sophisticated than Samoan
Sasa. Although the movements and styles of two dances are totally different, people look very happy

Sjdanceco's Dance Concert Report
As a beginner dancer at MHS, it is really important to go to dance concerts because it will help us
improve our dancing. The concert I went to was known as SJDanceco, and this concert was located
at Santana Row's park. This event had started at 10 am and had ended around 5 pm. I had went at 10
am and left around 2pm because it was a really fun experience. I had seen many cool and different
choreographies with different types of dances. On the other hand this concert has occurred on
4/23/2017, which is on a sunday. There were approximately 88 – 91 performance groups that had
gathered and performed on this special day. This was SJDanceco's 15th anniversary, so this could be
a reason why there were so many groups. Even though there were too many choreographers to
name, all of their choreographies were all amazing. Their choreos showed us how much work and
effort they put in, and I believe all of them put in lots and lots of hard work and effort. ... Show more

more than they were before. I personally believe that every single costume that the performers had
worn fit their dances really well. For example, the song "Better When I'm Dancing" was performed

The Ghost Dance & Cargo Cults
The Ghost Dance of the Plains Indians and the Melanesian Cargo Cult are both Revitalization
Movements. Each of these movements has sprung up due to contact with the broader, outside world.
Inevitably, contact with groups of people you didn't realize existed creates immediate challenges,
questions and inspires novel thought. There are several different types of revitalization movements,
and each of these respective ones falls under the branch of a specific kind. The Ghost Dance group
is essentially a Millenarian movement, but in another sense, it is also a Nativistic movement. The
Cargo Cult group is most certainly a Nativistic movement, with little to no aspects that would
categorize it under any other branch of Revitalization Movements. In the following paragraph, I'm
going to describe the main features of each group and explain how they reacted and handled the
moral conflicts created by the arrival of the foreigners.
The Ghost Dance movement was a Nativistic/Millenarian movement that arose amongst the Plains
Indians in North America. The Plains Indians taught peace, prosperity, and unity. This particular
group employed the use of a Prophet, who served as a charismatic leader who led dances, received
revelations and visions and acted as the mouthpiece of God. These people engaged in a series of
'ghost dances' that were designed to reunite the living with the ... Show more content on

Parkinson's Dance Therapy
As children, people are often encouraged to pick up hobbies related to physical fitness to maintain
their health and keep them active. As aging occurs, sometimes involvement in sports and physical
activities weans off. Dancing is an activity that many partake in, whether it be on the professional
stage or in the comforts of the home. To many, dancing brings joy and studies have shown that
dancing can reduce anxiety.
There have also been studies that indicate that physical activity, particularly dancing, can help
improve aging–related brain health by aiding with Parkinson's disease. Parkinson's afflicts millions
and affects that nervous system causing loss of movement. While there is no known cure for
Parkinson's, dance therapy can help.

Definition And History Of Line Dancing
Definition and History:
Many people don't know what line dancing even is! Line dancing is a form of country and western
choreographed dance where a group of people dance in a line without partners and perform
repetitive dance steps in a set formation. It is considered to be a form of 'popular' dance which
means it is a dance done for fun and entertainment. It is however becoming a form of 'performance'
dance as more people are doing it in competitions and for audiences. Line dancing is exciting and
mysterious as nobody is actually sure where it started. It is widely believed to have originated from
folk dancing and had started in Europe but was then changed throughout the course of the 18th and
19th century in the USA and around Europe. More ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

start by first teaching the basics as the children will not likely have ever been involved in lessons of
this nature. The gym will include all the necessary equipment needed for line dancing training. The
lessons will be over a period of 10 weeks and in each week the children will be evaluated and
guided. The lessons will be taught by myself – Saskia Wagner, and another two volunteers. At the
end of the course the teenagers should be able to do the dances and possibly teach it to any of their

The Choreographer For Pendulum By Nisha Jackson
1. Pendulum
The choreographer for Pendulum is Nisha Jackson. This dance had a mood of life, living and the
emotional stages throughout life. The music, lighting and costumes helped in the aid of conveying
the theme. I believe that the dancers were split up into family like groups because only certain ones
wore the same outfits and others had different ones. Also, throughout the dance the groups would
each do their own thing, which would point out the differences between people. The connection
between our class and the concert was when they all had to do their own different dance parts and
interpret what the others were doing.
2. Rememory
The choreographer for Rememory is Raquelle Pollock. Rememory had a mood of carrying people
along in our memories. This dance poked out the most to me because in the beginning of the dance
they dance with no music and they were all in sync. Then the music turned on in the middle of the
dance and made it more interesting and then at the end of the performance with maybe a minute left
the music turned off again and then they were all in sync again. The lighting was a yellowish color,
and their costumes were simple and flowy. The connection between this dance piece and our dance
class was when how we all would start in sync with one another, the would be given a few counts to
make up our own 8 count of dancing and then we would all become in sync with the same dance
again. This happened multiple times throughout the dance, which is

Creating And Developing A Group Dance Performance With A...
Demonstrate an understanding of the processes involved in creating and developing a group dance
performance with a particular focus on choreography
Introduction
Choreography is the act of creating movement to produce dance. It is a creative process that requires
knowledge of how the process functions (Minton, 2007). Smith–Autard (2010) believes there is a
vast difference between dancing and choreographing. Dancing can be enjoyed for pleasure and the
expression of feeling– but to choreograph movement is to 'create a work of art' (Smith–Autard,
2010: 3). According to Smith–Autard, (2010) a work of art has to be created with the composer's
intention to communicate a theme or emotion. The movement content is an abstraction from actual
feelings of the choreographer, or the character of the dance that is being portrayed, which creates a
representation of the work that is significant to the dance idea as an entity.
Composition is the bringing together of smaller sections that can be worked on to create one overall
piece. The process of refinement and reflection to develop choreography demonstrates how
composition begins as small sections of movement. Basic compositional elements include space,
time and theme (Lambert, 2015).
Improvisation is a way of exploring new methods of movement– it is a method of self–expression
and discovery. Improvisational dance movements came during the 1960′s and 1970′s– where an
artistic revolution, known as the post–modern movement, made the dancer

Physical Benefits Of Line Dancing
Section B
Line Dancing is fun, sociable and beneficial for the Youth
Line Dancing is an activity that I recommend and encourage the youth to get involved with. Line
dancing is a dance done to country music by a line of people (dancers) without partners, following a
choreographed pattern of steps.
Line dancing has been around, in one form or another, since before Christ. The type of dancing we
do today evolved from the "Contra" dance that is an old style and was very popular from the early
1800's in the New England States. The style in the 1800's was that two lines of dancers would form
with women on the one side and men on the other. The men from the one side would partner with
the women from the side between the two lines and usually do their own routine down the middle
and when that pair was done and reached the end of the lines, they would separate and move back
into their respective line, then the next pair would do the same and so on. Then in the 1970's, the
style of line dancing we do today was formed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

As this semester is coming to an end in DAN 130, we were given our final assignment. For this
project we were asked to get in groups of 4–5 students and create a two–minute dance incorporating
the movement styles we have been taught. Since we are approaching the Christmas holiday we
decided to incorporate that into our dance by choosing the song "Drummer Boy," by Justin Bieber.
We applied ballet, jazz, hip hop, and a few moves we learned on studio days into our routine. We
also recorded ourselves for practice and spent time outside of class perfecting this performance. If I
were to categorize our dance into a genre I would label it as hip–hop, jazz. Since Justin Bieber is
more of a pop artist, the beat is faster than a contemporary or ballet piece. The reason we chose this
song was because the tempo was both fast and slow allowing us to incorporate more movements.
The song begins with a slower beat and 50 seconds into the song speeds up immensely. This is
where we change our tempo and range of movements. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and not develop some type of relationship. Our methods of intercommunication qualifies my group
a discourse community. The third reason why my group is a discourse community is because we
have multiple forms of feedback to improve performance. The most utilized form of feedback are
the videos that are recorded of our performances. By recording our performances, the choreographer
and the rest of the team can view items that need to be fixed. Some examples of fixable items
include technique, counts or count structure, and performance. To "perform" means the dancer is
engaging with the audience, smiling (or portraying the character assigned), and having their chin up.
Even if the dancer is nervous during a performance, having their chin up can give off the illusion
that they are confident in what they are doing. Another form of feedback that is utilized are the
judges. The judges

Los Matachines
Every Step is a form of Prayer Intricate costumes, rhythmic movement, expression of culture, and
religious backgrounds all make up the art form of the dance of los Matachines. The traditional
dance–drama of los Matachines is danced by both men and women of all ages. Essentially, every
costume and instrument used by los Matachines is self–made by the dancers and can be created from
many different materials such as rocks, sand, feathers, etc. To begin their dance, these dancers will
form two lines facing each other with enough space in between, while the two main dancers at the
moment move along through the middle of those lines performing their specific piece in the dance.

These two dancers are selected depending on their experience which includes their skills and
maturity in dance. The main characters consist of El Monarca Montezuma, his bride La Malinche,
El Abuelo, and El Toro followed by the rest of of the group of Matachines. Like I mentioned before,
every group of Matachines will have their own story to tell depending on the event however, they all
dance for the same religious purpose. One of the main stories ever told by any group of Matachines
is typically about one of the main characters, Malinche, whose only desire is for El Monarca to
murder El Toro who is represented by a man with horns on his head running around and through the
dancers. El Toro threatens Monarca, Malinche, and anyone else in his way. The evil then is finally
overpowered, killed, and castrated. There will be times when a Torito comes in the act, played by a
young boy who represents the bull being reborn. Last but not least, El Abuelo and La Vieja are the
characters meant for comic relief summing up a brief performance done by los

Mark Morris Dance Group Spring Dance Analysis
What do you think the dance was about?
I watched "Mark Morris Dance Group Spring,Spring,Spring (excerpt 1)" and I thought the dance
was about spring and each person represented a flower or plant blooming in the season. All of the
colorful pants men were wearing could have represented the different colored leaves on the trees.
There was a part in the dance where they were all spinning in a circle and there was a gap between
two girls. I found this part interesting because it could have represented how in spring, nothing is
ever set in stone and things are always changing and the hole in the circle may have represented the
gap for change and improvement.
What did you like and/or dislike about the dancing?
I liked how they weren't always doing

College Admissions Essay: My Pursuit Of Dance
At an early age, my parents enrolled me in dance and piano lessons. They wanted me to be a "child
prodigy" that had numerous talents. Since, both my parents were foreigners, they never had the
opportunity to do activities such as this. Therefore, it was important to them that I did the things that
never got to do. I never liked the idea but, as my father always told me "No knowledge is wasted".
So, I just went along with it. As I grew, I dropped piano lessons but stuck with dance. However, I
had bigger passions than dance, and that was science.
Nonetheless, I discontinued dance after high school to focus on my passion for science. Although,
dance is something that I am appreciative of; it is what has made me the person that I am today. It

Katherine Dunham: Activist, Anthropologist, Dancer
Katherine Dunham not only significantly contributed to the rise of modern dance, but she was also a
pioneer in the field of dance anthropology; and a staunch political and social activist. Dunham was
born in Chicago, Illinois and primarily raised in nearby Joliet, Illinois. Dunham first became
interested in dance when she was a teenager and trained with Ludmilla Speranzeva, formerly of the
Moscow Theatre, Vera Mirova, Mark Turbyfill and Ruth Page in Chicago before and during her
college education. She even started her own private dance school, Ballet Négre, in 1930, while at the
University of Chicago where she first began to cultivate her own technique that would change
modern dance. At the University of Chicago, Dunham decided to study ... Show more content on

segregated South, and after a very well–received performance in Louisville, Kentucky, Dunham
stated, "It makes me very happy to know that you have liked us . . . but tonight our hearts are very
sad because this is a farewell to Louisville. ...I have discovered that your management will not allow
people like you to sit next to people like us. I hope that time and the unhappiness of this war for

Additionally, in 1944, Dunham opened the Dunham School of Dance and Theater in New York in
Isadora Duncan's former studio but later moved to a new location still in New York. Dunham and
her company continued performing throughout the U.S. in the 1940s, and in 1950, they performed a

A Tahiti Fete is a cultural dance competition. It is used to gather those whose passion is presenting
their own interpretation of what the traditional dance portrays and allows them to present their
creations. Tahitian dance, similar to all Polynesian dance, is used to tell stories through motion and
sound. Body movement of each individual as well as movement of the group as a whole is carefully
planned to tell the story in the most realistic way possible. Although Tahitian dance is indigenous to
Polynesia, it has been introduced and performed elsewhere–San Jose for example. San Jose holds a

Life Orientation Line Dancing Portfolio
10 August 2015
Section B:
Definition: a type of country and western dancing in which dancers line up in a row without partners
and follow a choreographed pattern of steps to music.
History: Line dancing originated before Christ and it originated from another kind of dance called
"Contra" dancing which was done in the New England states in the early 1800s. The "Contra" was
set up in such a way that there would be two lines facing each other one line would be men and the
other line would be woman. A couple would then step into the middle and do their own routine
down the line and then the next couple would come forward and so on and so forth.

One of the strengths that I realized while dancing was that I have a good ear for hearing the beat of
the music and find it easy to keep to the rhythm of the dance. I also found it easy to remember the
steps and the order of the steps. I struggled with the technicalities of certain steps. In the beginning I
also struggled with the enthusiasm that was needed in the dance due to a lack of confidence but this
enthusiasm increased as my confidence with the dance increased. I enjoyed learning choreography
and dancing in time to the music but I did not enjoy how some people were singled out and forced to
dance in front of the entire class. Line dancing was very beneficial not only physically but it also
teaches a lot of life lessons that cannot be learned anywhere else such as discipline and to respect
and appreciate women. I would participate in further line dancing activities because it is a good
opportunity to get to know new people and become involved in new thing and learn new skills. Line
dancing can improve confidence and self–esteem so I would therefore do it again if I was struggling
with these things. I personally highly enjoyed going to the line dancing lessons as it was a way for
me to escape from the busy life of a matric student. It gave me a chance to forget about all other

The Kiowa Ghost Dance 1894-1916: An Unheralded...
The Kiowa Ghost Dance, 1894 – 1916: An Unheralded Revitalization Movement, was written by
Professor of Sociology at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma, Benjamin R. Kracht. A fairly
common belief is that the Ghost Dance died out in 1891. Though Benjamin R. Kracht believes that
it did not. That variations of the Ghost Dance survived through other tribes and continued on into
the early twentieth century. Looking at a number of different sources about the different tribes of
this time and looking at letters written at the time Kracht found a number of tribes that revived the
Ghost Dance for purposes that fit their needs. The sources Benjamin R. Kracht found helped him
support the idea that the Ghost Dance did not die out in 1891, but actually lasted until around 1916.
These five groups all had a specific group that participated in the Ghost Dance, these were the five
Ghost Dance headquarters. "Afraid–of–Bears and his followers danced on his land west of
Carnegie; a second group met east of Fort Cobb; the third Ghost Dance group formed in Alden, ten
miles south of Anadarko; the fourth Kiowa group was situated on Sugar Creek, west of Saddle
Mountain; and a Kiowa–Apache congregation was located near modern Apache (p.460)." Thus, this
information showed that these five groups after 1891 kept the Ghost Dance alive in their own ...

How Did Mark Morris Influence The World Of Dance
Dance is an ever evolving form of art; in much the same way that one can categorize and
differentiate between eras and styles of architecture one can also do so with dance. These eras at
times have sharp delineations separating them from their antecedents, other times the distinction is
far more subtle. Traditional forms of dance were challenged by choreographers attempting to expand
the breadth and increase the depth of performance; preeminent among such visionaries was Seattle
born dancer and choreographer Mark Morris. Mark Morris' began as one of the millions of hopeful
individuals attempting to simply make a career in dance; he not only succeeded but managed to have
a lasting effect on the entire landscape of dance.

The piece was inspired by earlier works by George Balanchine and Merce Cunningham whom
Morris claims are the choreographers that have most influenced him. Morris has become so well
respected in his field that he was tasked with planning the ceremonies for the funeral of opera
legend Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, with whom he had worked with many times and had a friendly
relationship.
He is seen today as one of the most enduring forces in modern dance choreography, having
pioneered for decades. One of his most well–known works Gloria has been performed, with
adaptation, since 1981. He has also had the distinction of performing to the playing of world
renowned cellist Yo–Yo Ma on numerous occasions, with Ma remarking that "Mark always manages
to put the perfect movement to even my extemporaneous flourishes." His work on preparing for the
funeral of Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, and his international performances have made him recognizable
around the globe. Having choreographed and or conducted (along with other recognizable
choreographers) special performances for dignitaries such as 3 sitting US presidents, the Emperor of
Japan, the Queen of England and a Premier of the Soviet Union has enlarged his admirers to
superstar levels.
Mark Morris managed to become a successful dancer in spite of several obstacles, though his

RESEARCH PAPER
Liturgical Dance (Ancient Times to the Modern Times)
In the world that we live in today there are many things that has been passed down from year to
year. In the years such as 1400 and 1440 B.C. dancing in which we refer to now as liturgical dancing
was first introduced. Liturgical dance has as its purpose the deepening and focusing of the worship
experience; it is not merely ornamental or decorative. (Branigan). Liturgical dance is a very uplifting
form of art; starting from the biblical times and even up until now. The history of liturgical dance
begins in the Bible. The Bible doesn't mention much about dance. But, it does mention dances of
celebration during two important historical events. The first event was the crossing of the Red Sea.
Miriam, prophetess and sister of Moses brought together several women in song and in praise after
the children of Israel crossed the Red Sea (Exodus 15:20, 21). The second event occurs when David
brings back the arc of the covenant to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6). Both major events showed the
significance of praise dancing in rejoicing and thankfulness for what the Lord have done, even for
your triumphs. (DavenPort). Although the times has changed, the style of liturgical dancing has
changed in some ways, but has also remained the same in other ways. There are many different
attributes that allows this form of art to be so uplifting. The types of attributes that causes this type

Moreover, dance decreases the chances of someone getting a chronic illness involving dizziness.
According to Sam wong, a reporter who writes about brain research. "Around one in four people
experience this condition at some time in their lives" (Wong). A pirouette is a term in dance that
means a turn. When a dancer learns to do pirouettes, they eventually learn to spot, which prevents
them from getting dizzy while doing so many turns in a row. Dizziness comes from an organ in the
ear. There is a fluid within the organ that begins to churn when a person starts to turn and when the
person stops spinning, the fluid continues to move making a person dizzy. Dancers are able to, in a
way, adapt to dizziness. They can just suppress being dizzy. A ... Show more content on

Grade 12: Group Performance Analysis
In November 2014, our grade 9 class went to go see the grade 11's perform their dances they created

In conclusion to this reflection, I did learn a lot about myself and what I need to improve on for the

struggles my group went through together. I felt like our group lacked some communication with

Over Centuries Hundreds Of Years Dance Has Been And Always
Over centuries hundreds of years dance has been and always will be a major part of every culture. It
is used as a form of expression which incorporates many types such as art, prayer, meditation,
fitness, therapy and the list goes on. Dance is not only a resource for such things, but it is also a
lifestyle for many, including it in their everyday lives.
Throughout history dance was used solely for worship reasons. Dance goes as far back as the
ancient Egyptian days; it's possible it could go back even further before the history of it was even
being recorded. What we do know is that there is even written passages in the bible that mention
dance. Some of the verses mentioned talk about dancing with joy of the lord and dancing ... Show

Another impactful woman was Katherine Dunham. Dunham had a serious passion for dance.
Unfortunately, at the time segregation still existed and black people were not allowed into the same
places as white people. When Katherine Dunham preformed at a business that features dancers, the
owners were blown away and wanted her back. Before she came back she told them she wouldn't
preform until black people were allowed to sit in and watch, they liked her so much they agreed to
it. Not only did Dunham break the "norm" by being one of the first black, female performers, but
she also made it possible for other people who aren't white be able to enjoy her show as well. What
Dunham achieved in her lifetime is very important and helped contribute to ending segregation.
These two are only two examples of how dance has helped shape society and influence many. There
are many other instances where dance has played a huge role in the world.
Dances vary depending on the culture. Here in the United states we have various forms of dance,
whether you're doing the chicken dance, "whipping," or "nay–naying," these are all examples of
modern day dances in America. We could even look back to the days where men and women went to
the parlor in their greased hair and poodle skirts and danced to some ol' time rock n' roll. There are

The hardness part is that dancers have to compromise with the live musician. Nothing like run your
music on a cd and be able replay for many times. It has to depend on the experience of the musician
and good collaboration of the dancers in order to run a complete choreograph piece.
The second dances, called "Distort" choreography by courtney. The reason I like this pieces because
the dance just like the choreographer's note: "There is no truth, there is only perception" famous
quote by gustave flaubert. When I think about this quotes is perception reality? Is perception wrong?
One man 's trash is another man 's treasure. For every fearful seller of stocks there is an

reminded me of my childhood. Therefore, I really like Courtney pieces has really demonstrate the

Institutions such as schools, community groups, sporting clubs, and religious groups are able to help
shape positive attitudes to sport and physical activity athletes (Hede et al, 2010, pg. 300). An
additional reason as to why I have not danced except for in school arranged programs is due to the
lack of facilities and know ballroom dance studio within the Redlands. This is evident as unlike
Tennis where there is five Tennis Centre's within the Redlands there is only two ballroom dance
studios. Due to my failure to succeed in dance this affected my self–esteem need and made it hard to

inequitable. Trips to a local studio were needed where we were able to have the use of professional

Music And Music
What makes music and dance recognizable by the English spears those are the concepts are not
cross culturally shared? Some societies lack the common names for dance and music either. So as to
cover this gap specific names are used to give a description of both music and dance. This is
different from the other communities whereby the same name may be used to refer to the
construction of music, dancing, singing and also it may be used in rituals and also in the ceremonies
too. This does not change the fact that each and every social group has its own music and the music
resembles the identity of the group as well. In this we will take a look on how observing this will get
an explanation from a cross cultural type of perspective.
There is a suggestion that goes that participation in music and dance has a more further influences
than aesthetic principles that may follow it may have an effect on the founding cultural schemas also
it would have an effect on the most of the domains which are cultural in nature. This includes
political organizations, gathering techniques, architecture style, hunting and also cosmology
(Reichard GA. Ypg 45–90). This way of music and participation in dance makes culture not to
resemble any of the rules set or the texts but the aesthetic motivations remains firm. The
foundational schemes which are in the cultural stage can be understood when named as orientations
which are aesthetic in nature. These brings an influence intro our day to day life by

Dance Evaluation
Dance is significant to our society; the aspects of Modern/Contemporary Dance have adjusted the
viewpoint of the society to view it as a perpetual embryonic form of art. The evaluation exhibited in
this document will contain concise interpretations of the pieces performed by the "Mark Morris

Items", "Serenade", and "Dancing Honeymoon."
The first performance piece was "A Forest", which the title featured a particular image at the
beginning of the piece. At the beginning, the performers arms and fingers were stretched out over
their heads, corresponding to the branches of a tree. Moreover, the piece resembled a modern
method of dance because it contained a clear majority of the dancers running like they were animals,
then walking like were they hunters, and then jumping like they were deer throughout the piece.
Also, my interpretation of the piece resembled the performers as deer's when they pranced around
the stage shifting from toe, ball, and heel repetitively. Another example of my ... Show more content

The performance Dancing Honeymoon was based on dance movements that contained the tossing of
folded chairs on the stage, energetic movements, properly 20th century music with lots of strong
beats. The bright yellow, beige, and white costumes accompanied the visual aspect of the piece. The
analysis of the costumes represented happiness and contentment. Also, enthusiastically shifting the
lighting throughout the performance to resemble the outdoors was a noticeable feature presented in
the piece. This piece theme of happiness was clearly stated throughout the performance. All the
fundamentals of lighting, costume, music, and movements seemed to transport the theme proposed
by the heading, "Dancing Honeymoon". This dance was a piece that primarily demonstration the

  • 3. Ballet Research Paper What would the world do without dancing? Many styles of this art form are spread from different cultures around the world, and are performed all over. Cha Cha, samba, ballroom, swing, disco, and break dance are all unique forms of dance that are performed, but the one with the most class and rich history is ballet. The elements the combine to form a dance culture include the origin, the music involved, and the classes of dancers. These dance styles contain different components, but ballet is an older, more moving, art form that contains graceful dances set to classical music versus break dancing, which is more modern with sharp movements set to hip hop. Ballet has many defining characteristics which include the origin, dancer styles, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Breakdancing is a much newer style that has been around for less than a century. It originated in the 1970s in the Bronx, New York with the streets as a stage. Afrika Bambaataa was credited for forming one of the earliest dance crews entitles the Zulu Kings (From Street to Dance). They earned a reputation with their breakdancing circles, and then more people joined in, and from there, the style started to evolve. More well known groups such as the Rock Steady Crew of New York City helped in surging the popularity of breakdancing in low income communities and urban areas. In pop culture, many interpretations such as youth alternative and violent gangs have evolved to merge into a R&B funk classification. It is less planned out, and more improvised based on the rhythm to where there is a named style entitled "freestyle" (Art of Funk). Short, sharp motions make up the majority of the terms derived from slang. Hip–hop music is used, and unlike classical, it has lyrics that can be used to convey a message. Living below the poverty line used to the main theme, but as it evolved, dances became more about drugs, partying, how amazing the artist is. The original meaning was driven out by pop culture and the desire for validation. Starting from the streets of the Bronx, breakdancing has evolved to a less meaningful art form that has grown in widespread ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Revelations Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, who was later also known as Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, was born in 1840 in Russia. He was the first Russian who got an international fame due to his music in the classical repertoire. Regarding our essay, we have chosen the song which is originally composed by Tchaikovsky and then later in 1895, Ivanov along with Petipa revised the Swan Lake. The choreography of Swan lake–The Kirov Ballet basically focuses on is the Revelations and Bacchanale. Revelation is the dance that I like the most, however, Baccanale is my least favorite dance. To me, the dance symbolizes the parson's socialization in western civilization concerning roles of gender. In the past era, there was a gesture that was separated from full–embodiment and emotion, but with the passage of time, those gestures become more recognizable and meaningful. People move with the rhythm of the music, which is known as Dance. It is also known as art performance that contains organized and selected movements of the human body. There are several kinds of dance such as informal, professional performance, and ritual performance. The dance involves several moves of the body with the music in the specific space to express emotions, feelings of joy or an idea to get delighted by the body movements and also with the purpose to release energy. Revelations "Revelations" is my most favorite dance and it was first performed by the Alvin Ailey in American Dance Theatre and is known as three–section dance. The reason why it fascinates me a lot is that each section of this dance focus and display distinct factors that the people (Africans Americans) affected since the era of slavery and it is still present to fight for their rights. The theme of this dance is a unity that is showcased in every piece that was controversial in America because of racial discrimination. "Pilgrim of Sorrow" is the first section of this dance that is opened with a group of dancers. The dancers are in harmony using their arms in alegato tempo to create angular shapes. The dancers constantly moved and separated separately, but in the other step they would come back as one unit and become coordinated where they extended their long arms upwards. • 7. Asante And Samoan Dancing : Similarities And Differences Chloe Tripp Professor Rogers Dance 105 18 July 2017 Asante and Samoan Dancing Two dances that I chose to compare and contrast were Asante and Samoan. These two cultures are very interesting to learn about and both of their dances were very entertaining to watch. They had their similarities and differences, but ultimately had one goal when performing and that was to exude joy and entertain those who were watching while they performed with their cultures throughout their dance. While wearing their detailed costumes, they both had very fast movements along to the beat of a drum mainly. When they were both dancing for the videos that I watched, they were having fun while performing and that is what made the crowd enjoy it even more because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also part of their culture to pass down the dances and music to the next generations so that they can perform it for their culture and then pass it down to their generations to come. Samoans believe there are three main components to life: faith, family and music. This is often reflected in their dancing, which aims to keep tradition alive while still involving the ever–changing viewpoints of younger generations (Warta). Today in North America, most dance originating from Samoa is found in traditional competitions. Many are hosted by the Polynesian Cultural Center in ocean–bordering states like Hawaii and Florida (Warta). This I found interesting and very fun that we can still see Samoan dances still being performed and displaying their culture while making it competitive. Samoans base their culture on a hierarchy as well and the highest would be the chief which they call the "Matai". Then it goes down from their and based on their family reputation and role within the village as well. Samoan dances are most often large, group dances with many women and men (Siva). In group dances, the performers are generally arranged in rows and columns, although different arrangements are becoming more common and are entirely up to the different style or dance for that specific time. Performers are both male and female and they can perform most dance types in mixed company or in distinct gender groups (Warta). However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The dance executed by a group of eight young dancers, among which Otis Berry, was choreographed by Shaté Edwards. Miss Edwards has an engaged, skillful, and powerful style. Her background includes jazz, tap, stepping, modern and more. She is a Houston, Texas native, who attended college in Atlanta, Georgia, and has performed a lot in the U.S and China and has participated in numerous productions. The "Ndani" is performed by a group of eight dancers composed of seven females and one male. The dancers are all wearing shirts with sleeves rolled up to the elbows and pants also with the bottom rolled up to about the middle of the tibia; females are wearing a tie while the male has a waistcoat on. The dance is executed without any soundtrack; the rhythm is given by the taps of the dancers on the floor of the stage and on their own body; some words are often sporadically pronounced with or without forming a complete sentence. The dance begins with a dark stage, and only the taps and claps of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the movements executed by the dancers are similar to those executed by dancers in a stepping performance and also in a tap dance presentation. This presentation falls into the group of the new trends of modern dance, in which the choreographer are taking more and more liberty with various dance combinations, and including strong messages in their work. I would definitely attend other dance performance, not only from this company, but also by other companies; and would also recommend this performance, especially to people going through a dark period in their life. • 11. Bandari Dance In Persian Culture The Persian culture, one of the most prominent cultures in the world, has gone through many phases throughout the history. Their largest empire in the history of the world, their extraordinary engineering capabilities, and their inventions in arts and science are some of the most remarkable qualities that have made what the Persian culture is today. Art of dance has been a part of this ancient culture for a long time and it plays a significant role even until this day. There are countless different Persian dancing styles such as the Baba Karam, Bandari and Choob Bazi. My research will be focused on specifically Bandari dance. I'll be providing information on the history of this particular dance style and how it plays a role in the art of dance of the Persian culture. Bandari dance is a very well–known dance in the Persian culture that and has been a part of it for a long time. Bandari dance is performed alongside Bandari music. The term "Bandari" in Farsi means harbor or port, which is why this type of dance and music stem from Southern Iran and around the Persian Gulf, where this type of dance is also more common. Due to the exposure of this area to trade with the neighboring countries, this dance has been influenced by the African and the Arab culture. Because I am personally from the Capital of Iran, Tehran, this type of dance wasn't as common as other styles of dancing. Bandari was mainly performed at special events such as weddings where I'm from, whereas in the South ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The company is comprised of over 50 dancers and is supervised by three authoritative professors. Each fall, new choreographers are recruited by the company to each their choreographies, or reconstruction works of other choreographers, in the Fall Dance Concert. Each spring, the students have the opportunity to choreograph their own pieces for the Spring Dance Concert. These student choreographed pieces either presented in the concert, which runs for three days, or in the Show case, held only on a Sunday. During the spring choreography, each choreographer contends with the corresponding choreographers to secure a spot in the concert, which galvanizes competition, hostility, and tension. Conclusively, however, akin to any other campus organization, we, the members of the company, share solidarity with each other with regards to certain ideas and acceptable behaviors. ... For example, a dancer I performed with last year for a senior piece refused to comply with her senior dancer by constantly castigating her style of dance and movements. She was eventually excluded from the group, in the form of expulsion, and consequently faced both informal and formal sanctions; informal sanctions by the dancers in the company and formal sanctions by the head executive board of the company who regulates, oversees, and organizes the undocumented set of rules and laws that operate the ... This essay will compare and contrast two types of dance: Samoan Sasa and Turkish folk dance. It will discuss what these dances are, who dances them, where, when and why they dance. Samoan Sasa and Turkish folk dance are both filled with a variety of people that dancing as a group. However, Turkish folk dance has more women than men, and the costumes that people dress are beautiful and colorful. On the contrary, Samoan Sasa has few women than men, and their costumes are not bright color, they generally only wear shorts. So where do so many people dance? Samoan loves to combine their daily life with their dance. It is really interesting. People also sing and shout loudly and energetically to make their dance more powerful. Turkish folk dance is completely different with Samoan Sasa. People will not stop kicking their feet through the whole dance. They jump, shake, move and communicate all the time. I had went at 10 am and left around 2pm because it was a really fun experience. I had seen many cool and different choreographies with different types of dances. On the other hand this concert has occurred on 4/23/2017, which is on a sunday. There were approximately 88 – 91 performance groups that had gathered and performed on this special day. This was SJDanceco's 15th anniversary, so this could be a reason why there were so many groups. Even though there were too many choreographers to name, all of their choreographies were all amazing. Their choreos showed us how much work and effort they put in, and I believe all of them put in lots and lots of hard work and effort. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I personally believe that every single costume that the performers had worn fit their dances really well. For example, the song "Better When I'm Dancing" was performed by three girls who wore hawaiian style clothing, and it totally fit the music's beats, lyrics, and personality ... • 19. Ghost Dance Research Paper The Ghost Dance & Cargo Cults The Ghost Dance of the Plains Indians and the Melanesian Cargo Cult are both Revitalization Movements. Each of these movements has sprung up due to contact with the broader, outside world. Inevitably, contact with groups of people you didn't realize existed creates immediate challenges, questions and inspires novel thought. There are several different types of revitalization movements, and each of these respective ones falls under the branch of a specific kind. The Ghost Dance group is essentially a Millenarian movement, but in another sense, it is also a Nativistic movement. The Cargo Cult group is most certainly a Nativistic movement, with little to no aspects that would categorize it under any other branch of Revitalization Movements. In the following paragraph, I'm going to describe the main features of each group and explain how they reacted and handled the moral conflicts created by the arrival of the foreigners. The Ghost Dance movement was a Nativistic/Millenarian movement that arose amongst the Plains Indians in North America. The Plains Indians taught peace, prosperity, and unity. This particular group employed the use of a Prophet, who served as a charismatic leader who led dances, received revelations and visions and acted as the mouthpiece of God. • 23. Definition And History Of Line Dancing Definition and History: Many people don't know what line dancing even is! Line dancing is a form of country and western choreographed dance where a group of people dance in a line without partners and perform repetitive dance steps in a set formation. It is considered to be a form of 'popular' dance which means it is a dance done for fun and entertainment. It is however becoming a form of 'performance' dance as more people are doing it in competitions and for audiences. Line dancing is exciting and mysterious as nobody is actually sure where it started. It is widely believed to have originated from folk dancing and had started in Europe but was then changed throughout the course of the 18th and 19th century in the USA and around Europe. More ... These lessons will start by first teaching the basics as the children will not likely have ever been involved in lessons of this nature. The gym will include all the necessary equipment needed for line dancing training. The lessons will be over a period of 10 weeks and in each week the children will be evaluated and guided. The lessons will be taught by myself – Saskia Wagner, and another two volunteers. At the end of the course the teenagers should be able to do the dances and possibly teach it to any of their other friends. At the end of the 10 weeks we will hold a concert for all friends and families to watch. This show will hopefully also encourage more children to want to join this course. • 25. The Choreographer For Pendulum By Nisha Jackson 1. Pendulum The choreographer for Pendulum is Nisha Jackson. This dance had a mood of life, living and the emotional stages throughout life. The music, lighting and costumes helped in the aid of conveying the theme. I believe that the dancers were split up into family like groups because only certain ones wore the same outfits and others had different ones. Also, throughout the dance the groups would each do their own thing, which would point out the differences between people. The connection between our class and the concert was when they all had to do their own different dance parts and interpret what the others were doing. 2. Rememory The choreographer for Rememory is Raquelle Pollock. Rememory had a mood of carrying people along in our memories. This dance poked out the most to me because in the beginning of the dance they dance with no music and they were all in sync. Then the music turned on in the middle of the dance and made it more interesting and then at the end of the performance with maybe a minute left the music turned off again and then they were all in sync again. The lighting was a yellowish color, and their costumes were simple and flowy. The connection between this dance piece and our dance class was when how we all would start in sync with one another, the would be given a few counts to make up our own 8 count of dancing and then we would all become in sync with the same dance again. • 27. Creating And Developing A Group Dance Performance With A... Demonstrate an understanding of the processes involved in creating and developing a group dance performance with a particular focus on choreography Introduction Choreography is the act of creating movement to produce dance. It is a creative process that requires knowledge of how the process functions (Minton, 2007). Smith–Autard (2010) believes there is a vast difference between dancing and choreographing. Dancing can be enjoyed for pleasure and the expression of feeling– but to choreograph movement is to 'create a work of art' (Smith–Autard, 2010: 3). According to Smith–Autard, (2010) a work of art has to be created with the composer's intention to communicate a theme or emotion. The movement content is an abstraction from actual feelings of the choreographer, or the character of the dance that is being portrayed, which creates a representation of the work that is significant to the dance idea as an entity. Composition is the bringing together of smaller sections that can be worked on to create one overall piece. The process of refinement and reflection to develop choreography demonstrates how composition begins as small sections of movement. Basic compositional elements include space, time and theme (Lambert, 2015). Improvisation is a way of exploring new methods of movement– it is a method of self–expression and discovery. Improvisational dance movements came during the 1960′s and 1970′s– where an artistic revolution, known as the post–modern movement, made the dancer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Physical Benefits Of Line Dancing Section B Line Dancing is fun, sociable and beneficial for the Youth Line Dancing is an activity that I recommend and encourage the youth to get involved with. Line dancing is a dance done to country music by a line of people (dancers) without partners, following a choreographed pattern of steps. Line dancing has been around, in one form or another, since before Christ. The type of dancing we do today evolved from the "Contra" dance that is an old style and was very popular from the early 1800's in the New England States. The style in the 1800's was that two lines of dancers would form with women on the one side and men on the other. The men from the one side would partner with the women from the side between the two lines and usually do their own routine down the middle and when that pair was done and reached the end of the lines, they would separate and move back into their respective line, then the next pair would do the same and so on. For this project we were asked to get in groups of 4–5 students and create a two–minute dance incorporating the movement styles we have been taught. Since we are approaching the Christmas holiday we decided to incorporate that into our dance by choosing the song "Drummer Boy," by Justin Bieber. We applied ballet, jazz, hip hop, and a few moves we learned on studio days into our routine. We also recorded ourselves for practice and spent time outside of class perfecting this performance. If I were to categorize our dance into a genre I would label it as hip–hop, jazz. Since Justin Bieber is more of a pop artist, the beat is faster than a contemporary or ballet piece. The reason we chose this song was because the tempo was both fast and slow allowing us to incorporate more movements. The song begins with a slower beat and 50 seconds into the song speeds up immensely. This is where we change our tempo and range of movements. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "A 'discourse community' is a group of people who share certain language–using practices... to extent 'discourse community' borrows from the literacy–critical concept of 'interpretive community'" (Swales 29). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Social media plays an immense role in our communication between the group. Facebook is used to view pictures and videos of the performances, and to view the itinerary for the day. Twitter is used for the teammates to ask questions to fellow teammates if they either deem it too personal or "embarrassing" for the group texts. The team uses group texts for information, to ask general questions, send funny pictures, and basically to get to know each other and talk. We are like a second family so it would be a bit bizarre to be around each other for at least fifteen hours a week and not develop some type of relationship. Our methods of intercommunication qualifies my group a discourse community. The third reason why my group is a discourse community is because we have multiple forms of feedback to improve performance. The most utilized form of feedback are the videos that are recorded of our performances. By recording our performances, the choreographer and the rest of the team can view items that need to be fixed. Some examples of fixable items include technique, counts or count structure, and performance. To "perform" means the dancer is engaging with the audience, smiling (or portraying the character assigned), and having their chin up. Even if the dancer is nervous during a performance, having their chin up can give off the illusion that they are confident in what they are doing. In the beginning I also struggled with the enthusiasm that was needed in the dance due to a lack of confidence but this enthusiasm increased as my confidence with the dance increased. I enjoyed learning choreography and dancing in time to the music but I did not enjoy how some people were singled out and forced to dance in front of the entire class. The Kiowa Ghost Dance, 1894 – 1916: An Unheralded Revitalization Movement, was written by Professor of Sociology at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma, Benjamin R. Kracht. A fairly common belief is that the Ghost Dance died out in 1891. Though Benjamin R. Kracht believes that it did not. That variations of the Ghost Dance survived through other tribes and continued on into the early twentieth century. Looking at a number of different sources about the different tribes of this time and looking at letters written at the time Kracht found a number of tribes that revived the Ghost Dance for purposes that fit their needs. The sources Benjamin R. Kracht found helped him support the idea that the Ghost Dance did not die out in 1891, but actually lasted until around 1916. These five groups all had a specific group that participated in the Ghost Dance, these were the five Ghost Dance headquarters. "Afraid–of–Bears and his followers danced on his land west of Carnegie; a second group met east of Fort Cobb; the third Ghost Dance group formed in Alden, ten miles south of Anadarko; the fourth Kiowa group was situated on Sugar Creek, west of Saddle Mountain; and a Kiowa–Apache congregation was located near modern Apache (p.460)." He is seen today as one of the most enduring forces in modern dance choreography, having pioneered for decades. One of his most well–known works Gloria has been performed, with adaptation, since 1981. He has also had the distinction of performing to the playing of world renowned cellist Yo–Yo Ma on numerous occasions, with Ma remarking that "Mark always manages to put the perfect movement to even my extemporaneous flourishes." • 60. Liturgical Dance In Modern Times LAQUISHA WILLIAMS HUMN 1101 MRS. FOWLER RESEARCH PAPER Liturgical Dance (Ancient Times to the Modern Times) In the world that we live in today there are many things that has been passed down from year to year. In the years such as 1400 and 1440 B.C. dancing in which we refer to now as liturgical dancing was first introduced. Liturgical dance has as its purpose the deepening and focusing of the worship experience; it is not merely ornamental or decorative. (Branigan). Liturgical dance is a very uplifting form of art; starting from the biblical times and even up until now. The history of liturgical dance begins in the Bible. The Bible doesn't mention much about dance. But, it does mention dances of celebration during two important historical events. The first event was the crossing of the Red Sea. Miriam, prophetess and sister of Moses brought together several women in song and in praise after the children of Israel crossed the Red Sea (Exodus 15:20, 21). The second event occurs when David brings back the arc of the covenant to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6). Both major events showed the significance of praise dancing in rejoicing and thankfulness for what the Lord have done, even for your triumphs. (DavenPort). Although the times has changed, the style of liturgical dancing has changed in some ways, but has also remained the same in other ways. There are many different attributes that allows this form of art to be so uplifting. The types of attributes that causes this type of dance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 62. Dance And Dementia Essay Moreover, dance decreases the chances of someone getting a chronic illness involving dizziness. According to Sam wong, a reporter who writes about brain research. "Around one in four people experience this condition at some time in their lives" (Wong). A pirouette is a term in dance that means a turn. When a dancer learns to do pirouettes, they eventually learn to spot, which prevents them from getting dizzy while doing so many turns in a row. Dizziness comes from an organ in the ear. There is a fluid within the organ that begins to churn when a person starts to turn and when the person stops spinning, the fluid continues to move making a person dizzy. Dancers are able to, in a way, adapt to dizziness. They can just suppress being dizzy. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 64. Grade 12: Group Performance Analysis In November 2014, our grade 9 class went to go see the grade 11's perform their dances they created with each other. After the show, on the bus, I remember talking with Isobel about what our grade 11 Arts Court project would be like, thinking grade 11 was so far away. This year, in rehearsals for round 2, all the grade 12's were talking about how their Dances For Youth By Youth project was probably one of their favorites group compositions they've done at Canterbury. Honestly, I was pretty excited to do this group composition. During the creative process and rehearsals leading up to the performances, there were a few rough patches our group (and me individually) went through. For the final performances at the theater, I thought our group came ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I don't know if it was being with my friends all day or if it was the thrill of performing in front of an audience three times in one day. I just simply had a fun time getting ready, warming up with my class, and just relaxing in between performances. I didn't feel rushed as I normally do when about to go on stage because I knew I had people around me who could help me out. We also shared a dressing room with students from De La Salle who I had some conversations with. We shared our thoughts about Dances for Youth by Youth and how are programs are different. I found out that they don't have nearly as many people as we do in our program, so I found that interesting and amusing. In conclusion to this reflection, I did learn a lot about myself and what I need to improve on for the next group composition. There were definitely some difficulties I went through by myself and struggles my group went through together. I felt like our group lacked some communication with each other and didn't listen to what other people had to say. This for sure wasn't one of my favorite compositions that I've done at ... For example, countries such as Haiti, The United Kingdom, North India, China and many African countries were represented during the performance. Between both their representation of typical music and dances performed, the concert accurately depicted what a typical scenario in each country would look like. The atmosphere of the performance can be described as exciting and optimistic. I was interested to see what the concert would entail; I was pleasantly surprised with what I witnessed. The first performance was titled Mande Medley. The musical performance was extremely upbeat and fast paced, and it captured the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is used as a form of expression which incorporates many types such as art, prayer, meditation, fitness, therapy and the list goes on. Dance is not only a resource for such things, but it is also a lifestyle for many, including it in their everyday lives. Throughout history dance was used solely for worship reasons. Dance goes as far back as the ancient Egyptian days; it's possible it could go back even further before the history of it was even being recorded. What we do know is that there is even written passages in the bible that mention dance. Some of the verses mentioned talk about dancing with joy of the lord and dancing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another impactful woman was Katherine Dunham. Dunham had a serious passion for dance. Unfortunately, at the time segregation still existed and black people were not allowed into the same places as white people. When Katherine Dunham preformed at a business that features dancers, the owners were blown away and wanted her back. Before she came back she told them she wouldn't preform until black people were allowed to sit in and watch, they liked her so much they agreed to it. Not only did Dunham break the "norm" by being one of the first black, female performers, but she also made it possible for other people who aren't white be able to enjoy her show as well. What Dunham achieved in her lifetime is very important and helped contribute to ending segregation. These two are only two examples of how dance has helped shape society and influence many. There are many other instances where dance has played a huge role in the world. Dances vary depending on the culture. Here in the United states we have various forms of dance, whether you're doing the chicken dance, "whipping," or "nay–naying," these are all examples of modern day dances in America. We could even look back to the days where men and women went to the parlor in their greased hair and poodle skirts and danced to some ol' time rock n' roll. There are so many countries that have their own known dances, just like we do in the US. In one of the links ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The reason I like this pieces because the dance just like the choreographer's note: "There is no truth, there is only perception" famous quote by gustave flaubert. When I think about this quotes is perception reality? Is perception wrong? One man 's trash is another man 's treasure. For every fearful seller of stocks there is an opportunistic buyer on the other end of the trade. Who is wrong and who is right? Constructed over five separate levels: Individual, Interpersonal, Institutional, Structural and Cultural, these areas are used to investigate the ways in which inequities challenge the area of sport and physical activity (Weeblycom, 2016). The two most prominent levels that impact my decision are the Structural Level being policies, funding, media, development programs, marketing and secondly the Institutional Level encompassing my community, school, facilities, rules and religion (Hede et al, 2010, pg. 299). Institutions such as schools, community groups, sporting clubs, and religious groups are able to help shape positive attitudes to sport and physical activity athletes (Hede et al, 2010, pg. 300). An additional reason as to why I have not danced except for in school arranged programs is due to the lack of facilities and know ballroom dance studio within the Redlands. This is evident as unlike Tennis where there is five Tennis Centre's within the Redlands there is only two ballroom dance studios. Due to my failure to succeed in dance this affected my self–esteem need and made it hard to enjoy it. Participating in dance was also made difficult to partake in at school, as Carmel only has one classroom with the suitable wooden floor and numerous classes needing to use it makes it inequitable. Trips to a local studio were needed where we were able to have the use of professional dance teachers making it advantageous. Having the professional advice and help made it easier to choreographed our own dance routine. Carmel is also a school that does not succeed highly in dance and therefore does not invest as much time and money into dance compared to other sports like Touch, Rugby 7's or Netball. • 74. Music And Music What makes music and dance recognizable by the English spears those are the concepts are not cross culturally shared? Some societies lack the common names for dance and music either. So as to cover this gap specific names are used to give a description of both music and dance. This is different from the other communities whereby the same name may be used to refer to the construction of music, dancing, singing and also it may be used in rituals and also in the ceremonies too. This does not change the fact that each and every social group has its own music and the music resembles the identity of the group as well. In this we will take a look on how observing this will get an explanation from a cross cultural type of perspective. There is a suggestion that goes that participation in music and dance has a more further influences than aesthetic principles that may follow it may have an effect on the founding cultural schemas also it would have an effect on the most of the domains which are cultural in nature. This includes political organizations, gathering techniques, architecture style, hunting and also cosmology (Reichard GA. Ypg 45–90). This way of music and participation in dance makes culture not to resemble any of the rules set or the texts but the aesthetic motivations remains firm. The foundational schemes which are in the cultural stage can be understood when named as orientations which are aesthetic in nature. These brings an influence intro our day to day life by ... • 76. Abby Lee Dance Analysis Being a psychology major, I tend to enjoy dances that appeal to emotion through stories. The dance that I decided to write this paper on is a small group contemporary piece performed by the Abby Lee Dance Company. This dance has a sad theme to it, as it deals with the topic of suicide. They use props including a table and three telephones to add creativity to the piece. This dance is interesting to me because of the affiliation it has to mental illness, which is personally important to me. This dance, called "Suicide Hotline," features a dancer in a white costume who is going through a tough time, she is the focus of the group dance. Three other dancers, dressed in black, are there to help her and in a sense "hold her up", literally, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other times, they could all be on the floor, but one girl could be standing and the others are lying or sitting on the floor. Throughout the entire dance, they are moving around on the floor, table, or standing up on either one. • 78. Dance Evaluation Dance is significant to our society; the aspects of Modern/Contemporary Dance have adjusted the viewpoint of the society to view it as a perpetual embryonic form of art. The evaluation exhibited in this document will contain concise interpretations of the pieces performed by the "Mark Morris Dance Group", followed by a comprehensive examination of the pieces "A Forest", "Pure Dance Items", "Serenade", and "Dancing Honeymoon." The first performance piece was "A Forest", which the title featured a particular image at the beginning of the piece. At the beginning, the performers arms and fingers were stretched out over their heads, corresponding to the branches of a tree. Moreover, the piece resembled a modern method of dance because it contained a clear majority of the dancers running like they were animals, then walking like were they hunters, and then jumping like they were deer throughout the piece. Also, my interpretation of the piece resembled the performers as deer's when they pranced around the stage shifting from toe, ball, and heel repetitively. Another example of my ... Also, enthusiastically shifting the lighting throughout the performance to resemble the outdoors was a noticeable feature presented in the piece.
