CREATIVE DANCE
History of Creative Dance
Creative dance is perceived differently by different sectors of the education system. In many provinces, creative dance is part of the physical education
curriculum. More recently, two provinces– British Columbia and Saskatchewan– have considered placing dance under the rubric of arts education. The
aspect of creative dance that is emphasized reflects the position creative dance is assigned in the curriculum. When in the physical education
curriculum, creative dance lessons typically focus on development of the motor skills involved, with little concern for the experience's aesthetic
potential. In arts education, the primary focus is creative dance's aesthetic potential. Advocates view creative dance...show more content...
The creative arts help students to: * gain confidence and a positive self–esteem * learn problem solving skills * make discoveries about themselves,
their friends, and the world around them * learn cooperation by working together as a group * learn to respect each other's unique style * learn
spontaneity, leadership, and self–control * develop creativity * gain physical strength, flexibility, and stamina * develop good posture, balance, and
coordination through dance exercises and yoga postures Combining dance technique with the art of expression gives students the necessary tools to
express their feelings through movement. Students develop dance skills, through traditional modern and ballet exercises, providing them with a strong
foundation in dance technique. They develop creative skills as they are encouraged to explore the different qualities of movement in relation to space,
time, force, and flow. As they explore, they become aware of their different body parts and how they can move them, discover new ways of moving,
create designs, and express feelings. Yoga postures and stories and relaxation techniques are integrated into the class to connect body, mind, and spirit.

What Is Dance Essay
Dancing was my first love. As a little kid, I always enjoyed dancing. I was always chosen to join dance performances in school. But, my family did
not really notice my passion for dancing.
When I was in third grade, I was asked to join a performance on our community wherein my friends and I were to perform an interpretative song and
dance number. That experience was bliss and priceless to me. Little did I know, that would be the start of something great.
After our performance, a new door opened to me. I was asked to join the choir in our church. Even though that did not involve dancing, I wanted to
join so bad because my friends are on it. But, unfortunately, my parents did not allow me to. I was saddened because again, my parents did not
appreciate what I wanted to do. There will always be a point wherein you will come to...show more content...
I am afraid that I would still be eaten by my frustrations and insecurities, but when I was reminded of that scene, I immediately had the courage. And
so when I started again from the basic and forgetting all my frustrations and insecurities, I was able to gain my confidence and I was able to learn how
to play piano. I think I had a new life. My music gained its life. That was just the start of great things. Now, I can play not only the piano, but violin
and guitar as well. I am using my talents for the greater glory of God and I am sharing those talents with others. In this experience, I was able to find
and enhance not just my talent, but also my character.
Through the years, music has been my refuge and my best friend. Whenever I am sad, happy, disappointed, or angry, I create music– I play, I sing, I
write. What had caused me stress once is now my stress reliever. I never thought that something that I once hated the most will be the same thing that I
will not be able live without. I once danced with music. Now, I am the one who is creating

jazz dance Essay
The varieties of jazz dance reflect the diversity of American culture. Jazz dance mirrors the social history of the American people, reflecting ethnic
influences, historic events, and cultural changes. Jazz dance has been greatly influenced by social dance and popular music. But, like so much that is
"from America", the history of jazz dance begins somewhere else.
The origins of jazz music and dance are found in the rhythms and movements brought to America by African slaves. The style of African dance is
earthy; low, knees bent, pulsating body movements emphasized by body isolations and hand–clapping. As slaves forced into America, starting during
the 1600's, Africans from many cultures were cut off from their families, languages and...show more content...
Just when social dancing was at its height, World War 2 put a stop to its popularity. Lack of attendance, plus the intricate rhythmic patterns of modern
jazz music, which were too complex for social dancing, led to the closing of dance halls and ballrooms. With the demise of social dance, the growth of
jazz dance as a professional dance form began. During the 1940's, jazz dance was influenced by ballet and modern dance. By blending the classical
technique of ballet with the natural bodily expression of modern dance, jazz developed a sophisticated artistic quality. Unlike early jazz dance, which
was performed by talented entertainers without formal training, modern jazz dance was performed by professionals trained in ballet and modern dance.
It was during this time that man who later came to be known as the "Father of Theatrical Jazz Dance", Jack Cole, was busy developing his
technique. Jack Cole had studied modern, ballet, and ethnic dance, had been a student at Denishawn and had done choreographic work in the
nightclub scene. In the 1940's there was a serious demand for groups of trained dancers for film work and Jack Cole was the one who started
developing these trained jazz dancers for the Hollywood movie musicals. Also, during this time Gene Kelly, began making his mark as a dancer in
Hollywood musicals. His impact on jazz was his individual, energetic dance style that combined athletic, gymnastic qualities with jazz and tap.

Essay about dance class reflection
Dance Class Reflection
Over the course of the semester, I have learned about different types of dances including hip hop, dance hall, and contemporary, Bhangra, street jazz,
Latin, zumba and more. In the beginning, I believed that I danced well and dance was easy to do but once I figured out how much effort, practice,
coordination, and preparation for a dance, I thought differently. Dance is all about expressing your emotions by using your body, having fun, gaining
strength in my muscles and developing a balance not only for dance purposes but for my inner self. I learned that dance is more complex than I
believe. There were elements I should consider in my movements like posture, timing, poise, musicality and expression, presentation,...show more

I really loved doing group dances because it got a chance for me to understand my classmates a lot more. For the flash mob, I really felt like we
finally connected and worked together as a group because I believed the Bhangra show was disastrous because no one was working together, everyone
skipped classes, they didn't take it seriously but in the flash mob, everyone worked together to practice the dancing, put our full ability into the
movement and we successfully entertained our crowd.
I'd like to focus a lot more on dancing instead of warm–ups and workouts. Although dancing requires a lot of working out, I believe that our ISU
should have focused on dancing as it is a dance class. I thought the ISU was going to be choreographing your own dance or learning a dance on
YouTube and performing the dance to the class where we can be critiqued on dance criteria. When I found out that we're doing a warm–up for a big
portion of the dance ISU, I felt disappointed because I really wanted to show my dancing creativity and culture to the class that they haven't seen. I
found that since we were limited to equipment like, getting hooked up to the internet to watch dance videos, we were unable to really extend our
knowledge in dance which was unfortunate.
I believed I did pretty well over the course. I didn't want to slack in the course to be honest. I felt like I was influenced by other classmates and I guess

Dance Concert Critique
My overall response to the dance concert is spectacular because each dance piece was moving, remarkable, and motivational. Each dance had an
astounding affect on me and allowed to me repelled into the performance. These impressions came from me analyzing the dance pieces, "A Brief
Study of Recent History and "One Heart, Two Worlds", for the Spring 2016 Studio 115Dance Concert Series at USM's Dance and Theatre Building on
May 4th. The first performance, "A Brief Study of Recent History" was choreographed by Elizabeth Lentz–Hill and introduced by the dancers Jennifer
Alafat, Megan Bradberry, Shaquille Hayes, etc. While the second piece, "One Heart, Two Worlds", was choreographed by Dejonelle Gleeton and the

75). Modern dance is all about the concentration on innovation. The dance, "One heart, Two worlds" has a huge connection with the choreographers,
Doris Humphrey, and Charles Weidman, a technique of "music visualization". When it came to creating dances, Humphrey was interested in group
dynamics. She also had a strong connection with music, therefore, music visualization is "a way to see the music through the dance, sometimes
having the dances follow rhythmic patterns (pg.81). Also, the choreographer, Isadora Duncan, created dances centered on the emotion of Mother,
depicting a sorrowful and broken figure. This emotion relates to the duo dance scene, the girl connecting with the world of dreaming and the harsh
world of reality; however, in the end, she appears to be broken when separated from her dream. Also, Duncan went against the traditional form of
ballet by creating dances in ways that were more natural, like movements of the trees or ocean as well as being inspired by not restricting movement
by providing the dancers with loose costumes. The dance "One Heart, Two Worlds" also depicts movements in a more natural way such as the nature of
