3. WHAT IS MOTIVATION ?
It is the INNER DRIVE that energizes you to do
something.
It is an inner drive that causes you to do something
and persevere at something.
It elicits, controls and sustains certain goal-directed
behaviors. For Example , hunger is a motivation that
elicits a desire to eat
6. Theory X :-
This theory assumes that most people prefer to be
directed are not interested in assuming responsibility
and want safety above all.
Accompanying this type of philosophy is the belief
that work is inherently distasteful to most people and
people are motivated by money and threat to
punishment.
Managers who accept this theory, attempt to structure,
control and closely supervise their subordinates.
7. Theory Y:-
This Theory assumes that people are not by nature
lazy and unreliable. Man can be self-directed and
creative at work, if properly motivated.
Mangers who accept this theory, attempt to help their
employees mature, by exposing them to progressively
less control, allowing them to assume more self-
control.

9. Herzberg
Theory
Motivational
Factors:- The presence
of these factors motivates
workers and at the same
time, absence of these
does not cause job
dissatisfaction.
Hygiene Factors:-
The presence of these
factors maintains
motivation at zero level,
but absence of these
factors causes serious
job dissatisfaction.

12. Maslow’s Hierarchy Theory:-
Basic Assumptions:-
All human needs cannot be satisfied because if one
need is satisfied another arises.
A satisfied need does not motivate behaviour.
Some needs are innate(natural/inherent) i.e. food and
water while some are acquired from social experiences.
Human beings attempt to satisfy their needs in a
specific order based on hierarchy.
