2. Christina Perri - Human
Key Features: Close ups, mid shots, birds eye, high angle.
Story Line: with a setting of a plain white room several girls will sit and express their
body and talents.
Aesthetic: Contemporary theme of isolation.
In this still from Christina Perri’s video for the song Human the singer is shown
through a mid shot with low lighting behind her so that she is simply a silhouette.
When looking closer at the shot, you realise there are links to the lyrics of the
song as her arm has transformed into transparency to show bones, linking to
concepts of everyone being of equal value and at the core we are all the same. To
apply this to our possible idea for a music video, showing different girls expressing
their talents will contrast with how individual everyone is.
3. The Fray – You Found Me
Key Features: Reverse filming, time lapse, dissolve shot, close ups.
Storyline: hidden meaning that is revealed at the end of the music videos. Imagery
and concepts are conveyed through the lives of different individuals.
Aesthetic: Urban, buildings, people.
In this exterior establishing night time shot the main singer of the band is seen
standing on a roof of a building, a very urban setting lit with lights of an office block.
To interpret this in my own way I have decided a possible way to shoot and create
similar effects I could film the a time-lapse of London streets at night where the
lights would create an atmosphere of city life.
4. Jaymes Young – I’ll Be Good
Key Features: Flashback, bokeh, close ups, mid shots, hand held shots.
Storyline: a young man will reflect on the relationship with his dad. Scenes of
flashbacks and hand held shots.
Aesthetic: Black and white theme.
In this shot from the I’ll Be Good music
video it is a mid shot of the singer shown at
a side profile, the effect of the shot means
the viewer is able to see the extent of his
emotion. To interpret this we have chosen
to use a black and white based music video
and have flash backs of home videos.
