4. Storyboards / Lyrics
• A crucial stage of the
planning process has
been storyboarding
and annotating the
lyrics. After coming up
with the ideas, I
needed to make sure
they would fit with the
song and the lengths
of the verses allowed
enough time to explore
the ideas. This will also
help during production
to make sure I have got
enough footage during
filming to cover the
length of the song.
5. Narrative Summary
• The idea behind my music video is based on the lyrics and theme of
the song Pretty Hurts.
• The song is based on the extent people go to fit society’s ‘perfect’
image but ultimately Beyonce is stating how we still never feel good
enough, closing the song with repition of ‘are you happy with
yourself?’
• My music video will continue this theme by showing the ways the
protagonist tries to change the way she looks. The chorus however
will focus on the line ‘perfection is a disease of a nation’ by including
people from all around the country/world. The music video will end
with the protagonist trying to get away from the pressures of society
and how you are supposed to look.
6. Narrative Stages
Begins with montage
of footage showing
how protagonist tries
to change the way she
looks.
Chorus displays a montage
of still images of people
holding up signs infront of
their face saying ‘too ……..’
depending on something
they see as a flaw.
The second verse will
follow a similar theme as
the first verse but what
is on-screen will mirror
the lyrics. The chorus will
also remain the same.
In the bridge, the tempo
changes and so there will
be images of the
protagonist running mixed
in with previous shots and
images from the chorus.
The ending will show
how the protagonist –
a representation of
females – cant win, you
cant escape the
pressures of society.
