1. Evaluation Question 4
How did you use new media technologies
in the construction and research, planning
and evaluation stages?
2. Websites/Online Applications
Throughout the process of researching and planning, there were many websites and online
applications that we used. For example, in many of the research posts we uploaded to our
blogs, we used google docs to create our presentations (E.g. Pitch presentation, editing and
sound research) and then uploaded these into slideshare which we could then embed into
our blogs.
In tasks that involved us mind-mapping our ideas, the best online application we could find
was ‘Popplet’ which allowed us to create detailed mind maps and include both images and
YouTube clips as well- this was especially helpful when comparing the trailers of Legend and
Black Mass. Other research posts such as our poster analysis were presented through the
use of ‘Prezi’. This particular website allows you to make a slideshow and embed it into your
blogs straight away, and use a variety of colourful themes and fonts.
In the later part of editing our trailer, we needed to include our own voiceovers. These were
made via the mic in class and then the sounds imported onto soundcloud so that we could
then transfer these into Final Cut Pro. The use of Soundcloud made it easier to access our
sounds whenever we needed them, or if we needed to return to them later on.
The final evaluation was produced using a variety of slideshow applications, with ‘emaze’
being another one.
3. Software
There was a wide range of software we used in the process of editing and producing
our products. The majority of our time was spent uploading shots and then editing
them in Final Cut Pro. The tools we mainly used within this software were the blade
tool which meant that we could cut down the shots to the necessary lengths. We
also used Garage Band in the editing process as it enabled us to create our own
soundtrack to fit with the suspense and tension in the trailer.
Producing the other two promotional products was more of a challenge as the
software was new to us and took a while to understand. When producing our poster
and magazine, we used photoshop to erase the background around the images we
took which meant we could then have the image of Gemma on her own to then
import into Adobe Illustrator. Within the software of photoshop, the main tool we
used was the background eraser which enabled us to get rid of the existing
background. The majority of our poster and magazine production used Adobe
Illustrator.
4. Computer Equipment
Computer equipment included the use of the
Mac computers we have in class. These are very
beneficial to our work as it means we have a
direct and quick access to the internet, and they
have all of the editing software already
downloaded which means we could start editing
straight away.
We also used a separate microphone which plugs
into the computer via USB. This was used to
create the voiceovers we produced.
5. Digital Camera Equipment
The camera we used to shoot our trailer was
a Canon DSLR. The quality of the camera and
its HD feature enabled us to capture the best
quality images and shots for our
promotional products.
