1. Unit G321
Evaluation
Who would be the audience for your
media product and how did you
attract your audience?
Olivia Ahmadi
2. Demographics
I took into consideration
certain factors such as...
White/Caucasian
16 - 30
Uni-sex
Lower – Middle Class
3. My music magazine is targeted towards people aged between 16 – 30. I chose this age
range due to the current understanding of popularity towards Indie/Rock bands and
their fan bases, as well as the interests of the general public. The younger generation
will be familiar with the new up and coming bands featured within this magazine, and
the top end of the age range will be very invested in the more traditional old school
bands we feature, however, the mix of both the new and the old will inform the whole
target audience of the everything the genre has to offer. We will do this by making
regular features of new music, and well as interviewing bands who have been
successful within the music work for an extended period of time. My main focus will
be to keep this magazine viable to both male and females, and by doing this I will also
keep the colour scheme of the magazine to traditional Indie-Rock colours, such as
Black and Red. I will also make sure cover stories appeal to both sexes.
4. My genre attracts its target
audience by selecting a specific
house style, use of photo shots,
models, props, and of course the
articles within the magazine.
5. For the selection of images within my magazine, I have a mixture of medium close ups and
long shots so that the reader can get a good look at the people in the image,. The models
in my images are dressed stereotypically, in dark clothing, however, all clothing worn by
the models is accessible for the reader, as it is nothing overly lavish or glamorous. I have
made this choice, so that the reader is able to admire those in the images, and will be able
to relate to them without feeling like they models are above them due to their physical
exterior.
My magazine also includes images of festivals and consumer pictures, therefore the
reader is aware that this is a magazine for the people, just as much as the musicians, as it
offers information about events, and gigs related to the genre also, which is reflected
through images also.
6. The contents of my magazine, I have
split it into sections, which allow the
reader to be able to quickly decipher
what it is they are particularly
interested in. All of the sections have
direct information regarding the Indie-
Rock genre, and is accessible for
everyone within the age range, keeping
readers up to date with the latest of
gigs, musicians, and music.
I have included articles that will appeal
to the higher end of the age spectrum,
such as ‘Serena Thomas: On her return
to Music’, and the cover story, ‘The 2
Dead-Arms’, which will be of interest to
those who like to keep up to date with
the newest musicians in the industry.
7. Forms of
Advertisement
I will advertise on Radio
stations playing similar music
to my chosen genre, for
example: Kerrang and Classical
Rock
I will also advertise on TV
music channels, such as
Kerrang, and MTV
Leaflets and flyers are a
traditional and successful form
of promotion which I will
distribute at music events and
festivals.
Social Media is currently the most
successful form of marketing and is also
free. It is a great platform to also reach
the young end of the target audience on
and is completely accessible to almost
everyone.
