For question3,we createda focusgroup to show people ourmediaproduct,where theythen
answeredquestionsregardingthe musicvideo.

Do youunderstandthe conceptof the narrative?
Whenaskingour focusgroupwhethertheyunderstoodthe narrative of ourmediaproduct,we had
a mix of responses.Majorityof the peoplesaidhow theyunderstoodthe narrative tothe video,
expandingtothisexplaininghowtheycangatherthe ideaof the younggirl has gottenherself
involvedwithabadcrowd.People alsosaidhow itwasclearthat these youngadultswere
developingapartyor hedonisticlifestyle,whereasthe mainprotagonistisn’tquitesure whattodo
aboutthe situationsthatherfriendisputtingherthrough.The focusgrouptoldus that the narrative
of the videofitswellwiththe lyricsof the song,andtheycouldunderstandhow we have
representedthe indie genre,withthe characters,butalsothe waythat the narrative isnot
straightforward,due tothe crosscuts in betweenscenes.
Althoughthe majorityof the responseswere positiveaboutthe narrative,the focusgroupgave us
tipson howwe couldhave improvedourmediaproduct.Membersof the focusgroupsuggested
that we couldpossiblyaddmore performance clips,howeversome peoplesuggestedthatthe
narrative wasnot as clearas it could be,as theywere leftconfusedastowhat the mainprotagonist
was sufferingwith,due tothe wordssuchas ‘pain’inthe bath.
2. Was youable to followthe narrative frombeginningtothe end?
Whenaskingour focusgroupwhetherthe narrative waseasyto follow,majorityof the peopleasked
explainedhowtheycouldunderstandthe narrative throughoutthe musicvideo,whichtheywere
keptinterestedandthe clearnarrative graspedtheirattention.The narrative wasdescribedwith
wordssuch as ‘enthralling,’andrepresentativeof the indie genre,andalthoughone personsaidit
wasn’tnecessarilystraightforward,due tothe crosscuts, itwasn’ta badthingas it wasa good
representationtowardsthe indiegenre.
3. What attracted youmost to the video?
As a thirdquestion,we askedourfocusgroupwhatattracted themthe mostto the musicvideo.The
overall style toourmusicvideowasengagingforourviewersastheyfoundthe indie style tothe
videointeresting.Anothermaintheme inourmusicvideowhichattractedthe viewerswasthe
editingtechniqueswhichwe have used.Ourfocusgroupcommentedonthe effectsof ourvideo,
and the waythat certainclipshad beenplacedtogethertofitintime withthe song.The footage was
alsocommentedon,beingdescribedas‘strongconteptually,’andthe footage inthe nightclubbeing
describedas‘holdingapleasingaesthetic.’
4. When we questionedthe focusgrouponwhether
or not the videorepresentedthe alternative/indie
genre one of the member’sstatedthe videowell
representedthe musicgenre wellthroughthe use of
character and mise enscene while the othersstated
it wasdue to the constructionof narrative typical
conventionsof the alternative/indie musicvideos.
The feedbackfromall five memberswere takeninto
account and establishedthatthe audience
understoodthe narrative andwhatgenre the video
was whichwe wantedfromthe start of production.
5. for thisquestion focusedonwhatcanbe improved
to the musicvideohow itcan more successful toattract
wideraudiences.Whencollectingthe feedbackbackthree
out of five membersof the focusgroupstatednothing
needtobe changedall to fill inthe minorgapswhichwe
had takenintoaccount andwe filledthe missingfootage to
make the videocomplete,howevertwomember’sstated
that theywantedmore performance inthe video,however
eventhoughthese comments weretakenintoaccountthe
purpose of the videowasto create a narrative as we wasn’t
focusedoncreatinga performance basedvideosowe
didn’tfeel likeaddingmore footage tothe video,we did
include some performance clipsof the artistbuttheywere
part of the narrative.
To conclude,we are happywiththe overall
feedbackfromthe focusgroup,as we gathered
mixedopinionsthatwe tookintoaccount.This
allowedustoimprove ourvideobyquestioning
people of ourtargetaudience.Accordingthe
people askedwe successfullyconstructeda
narrative enigmathroughcharacter,mise en
scene andediting.Eventhoughsome didn’t
grasp the narrative,thiswasour intentionto
create a fragmentedmusicvideo.
