2. HOW DID I ACCUMULATE MY
AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
To gather my audience feedback I used various different
ways, the main two were questionnaires and interviews. We
used Google forms to hold questionnaires to a wider
audience as well as taking polls from peers. The feedback we
got was crucial in pleasing the demographic, which is the
desired aim. After hosting an interview where I showed
people different styles of video I found that narrative videos
were preferred. This shaped my video and I then evaluated
the pros and cons of performance based and narrative and
decided on a narrative as it gained a great positive response
from the audience.
3. FEEDBACK GAINED
The questionnaire gained an understanding of the target
audience for me, asking specific questions to get a narrowed
demographic helping with aspects of the video like casting
choices so the audience could relate to the video. From this I
found that younger people spend more time online watching
media or on a social media platform and so this is where our
focus was aimed.
The interview was more focused than the questionnaire as
the basis of the target audience was found. The interview
focused on the actual content of the video. I found that more
people enjoyed narrative music videos to performance based
ones, especially if they did not know they artist. They felt that
the narrative gave the song a deeper meaning and greater
scope for creativity.
4. FEEDBACK GAINED
PART2
There was mixed opinions about whether the artist was
important within the video. Some felt that the artist was
important as the song is personal to them as well as being
their work so their face should be put to it, also some felt that
they face is needed to associate them to their music for the
sake of the audience and ‘star’ status. However, some
disagreed; they felt as though the songs meaning is more
important than the artist and so they should be allowed to
create whatever moving picture that want that relates to their
song. This was especially thought of as an association to the
indie genre.
There was criticism towards the performance video as they
felt dethatched from the meaning of the song and felt the
editing to be too jumpy and confusing.
5. FEEDBACK FROM THE
PROMOTIONAL PACKAGE
Throughout the production and post-production I asked peers to give me feedback on
my work.
Positives:
• Eye opening and closing- people enjoyed this aspect as they felt it gave a clear
beginning and ending to the narrative.
• Locations- they comment on how many locations were used and the transitions
between them. They felt that it kept the pace of the piece up and made it more
interesting.
• Actors and genre- our peers felt that the actors were professional and didn't’t look
awkward neither out of place. They also commented on how all the aspects of the
video matched the indie genre well.
• Digipak- people felt that this was creative and eye-catching as well as original. This
was our aim for the digipak. They liked the main image and the colour scheme of
black and white so that this picture stood out.
• Poster- everyone agreed that the poster matched the rest of the promotional
package well, they liked the concept of the band looking at the main album image as
a piece of art and felt that all the needed information was included. People also said
that they way we incorporated the actors was clever and innovative.
6. FEEDBACK FROM THE
PROMOTIONAL PACKAGE
PART 2
Negatives:
• Split screen- there was a clear problem throughout our editing
process to do with the split screen, people commented on the fact
the middle line was moving and said it was off putting and looked
unprofessional.
• Argument- There were comments that the argument part of the
narrative did not make sense and looked out of place. They felt that
it ended too abruptly and so felt as though it needed to be included
by using jump cuts throughout the flashback section. This would
then also help to emphasise the idea that they are flashbacks.
• Digipak- our peers said that our band’s name should be put onto the
CD and the album title needed t be slighly bigger but other than that
they liked it.
• Poster- There was only one negative which was very easy to fix
which was the ‘available now’ needed to be bigger and bolder.
7. WHAT I HAVE LEARNT
FROM THE FEEDBACK
Audience feedback is one of the if not the most important
and useful way to develop our promotional package. It
helped me to feel confident about certain aspects of the
video that were good and also helped to see where errors
have occurred or alterations to make to have the most
professional video possible. Conveying the message of the
song was most important to us and receiving feedback
saying they understood elements and not so much others
helped us to portray young love and the ups and downs of
relationships. As we spent a lot of time editing the
promotional package we became slightly blinded to aspects
of it as we had viewed it so many times so an outside
perspective really helped.
