Editor's Notes
Instructions on how to use this PowerPoint can be found on p.18-19 of the Teaching Guide, copies of which can be downloaded from www.getinthezone.org.uk.
Children choose 6 of the body parts listed on this slide, and write them in a grid. Make a statement about one of the words, e.g. ‘This protects the end of your finger’. Those with ‘fingernail’ in their grid cross it off. The first to cross off all six body parts and shout ‘Body!’ is the winner.
Read this email with the children.
Children should discuss how the bodies in the photographs vary and how these differences make the bodies suited to different sports. Encourage them to think about differences in muscle size and stature in particular.
Discuss the three different types of jump shown in the photographs (long jump, triple jump and high jump). What do the children know about the differences between them? See p.19 of the Teaching Guide for details of the following activity.
