 Description: This free app available for download off of iTunes which can be used with
smart phones and tablets, and allows the user to not only track his/her own physical
activity level, but allows them to compete with friends and to track physical activity over
time.
 Credibility: this application was created by a team of doctors from the Mayo Clinic
Department of Endocrinology, Nutrition and Diabetes after researching physical activity
habits of leaner individuals’ vs. those individuals who are overweight or obese. The study
found that leaner people are more physical active even when they are not moving (the
study found they stand for about 2 more hours a day than overweight/ obese individuals).
 Meets Written Objectives: students can use their own smart phones or tablets (or those
provided by the instructor) to download the free Walk n’Play application. They can then
use the application to monitor their level of physical activity during the class period and
throughout the day. This application also allows them to compare their physical activity
history to see how they performed today compared to yesterday or sometime last week.
The “history” aspect of this application will allow students to analyze and make inferences
about their physical activity behaviors and their own personal fitness plan.

they eat/day as well as their level and amount of
physical activity and then generates charts and graphs
based on the entered data.
Credibility: this site was created by the USDA and is
updated and maintained by that agency.
Meets Written Objectives: Students are being asked
to analyze and evaluate their own physical activity
levels in the form of a personal fitness plan. By
recording data and being able to see it in chart and
graph form will assist student in making accurate and
reasonable conclusions about their individual level of
fitness and progress with their personal fitness plan.

the key training principles being taught in the unit
 Credibility: The BBC (British Broadcasting Cooperation)
is major news and broadcasting company abroad. Their
information is credible and this site is designed specifically
for a high school aged audience to use as a study
reference for their general certificate of secondary
education.
 Meets Written Objectives: Students are being asked to
apply their knowledge of these training concepts to a
personal fitness plan, as well as to analyze aspects of
their own workouts and exercises. Knowing what the
principles are and how they relate to exercise it a key
point within this unit.

 Desciption: this device can be used to record and play-back
movements and activities taking place in the physical education
classroom. Students can record one another while performing
different exercises and then watch that video to check for correct
form and performance.
 Credibility: The device is produced by a large, well-known
technology company and comes with a two-year warranty.
 Meets Written Objectives: students ar asked to use training
principles throughout this unit. By recording themselves and/or
classmates, students will be able to determine if the training
principles are performed correctly and safely; these can also be
viewed by the instructor at a late date for the purposes of grading.

 Desciption: this is a video game that requires players to move their
feet in time and rhythm while following the prompts of the game’s
avatar; The player can choose own level of difficulty.
 Credibility: This game was created by Konami and has been
adapted to be able to run on a variety of gaming formats including
the PS3, Xbox and Wii.
 Meets Written Objectives: students are required to work within a
certain heart rate zone for 40% of the class period. While
performing this activity while wearing a heart rate monitor, students
will be able to determine if they are truly working within that target
zone.

How I Would use this technology in
my own classroom
 I would use slideshare, as a way to post information for
students to see and use outside of school. I would post
lectures and notes, resources used in class,
assignments, ect. I think that this is a great way to share
large amounts of information in a manner that is easy to
both upload and navigate. I also think that I would have
students create their own short mini lectures on a chosen
topic, which I could then post for the entire class to see.
Peers could then read/see those slide shows and then
make comments on them. These lectures could be a
complex project, or just something simple related to the
unit or the lesson of the day. Researching and
commenting would also be a form of review for students
as well, always an added bonus!

While performing this activity while wearing a heart rate monitor, students will be able to determine if they are truly working within that target zone.   • 8. How I Would use this technology in my own classroom  I would use slideshare, as a way to post information for students to see and use outside of school. I would post lectures and notes, resources used in class, assignments, ect. I think that this is a great way to share large amounts of information in a manner that is easy to both upload and navigate. I also think that I would have students create their own short mini lectures on a chosen topic, which I could then post for the entire class to see. Peers could then read/see those slide shows and then make comments on them. These lectures could be a complex project, or just something simple related to the unit or the lesson of the day. Researching and commenting would also be a form of review for students as well, always an added bonus!
