2. WHAT IS INTEGRATED CIRCUIT?
• An integrated circuit (also known as an IC, a chip, or a microchip)
is a set of electronic circuits on one small flat
piece of semiconductor material, usually silicon .
• Large numbers of miniaturized transistors and other electronic
components are integrated together on the chip.
• This results in circuits that are orders of magnitude smaller, faster,
and less expensive than those constructed of discrete components,
allowing a large transistor count
3. WHAT IS FABRICATION?
• Fabrication is the construction of items from different parts using at
least one of a range of processes and materials such as metal,
laminates, wood and other solid surface materials.
4. FABRICATION OF INTEGRATED CIRCUITS
• The fabrication of semiconductor devices is the process used to fabricate
integrated circuits devices, typically metal oxide
semiconductor MOS devices used in integrated circuits chips in any
electrical and electronic devices. The starting material for integrated
circuits fabrication is single crystal silicon wafer. The fabrication
operation has many steps. They are:
LAYERING
PATTERNING
DOPING
HEAT TREATMENT
