2. SOURCES OF OXYGEN
Photosynthesis or the process of making
food in plants requires the use of water,
carbon dioxide, and sunlight.
As the process is done they produces food
and oxygen.
The food is stores within the plants while
the oxygen is released into the air, that will
be used by animals and humans.
Thus, plants plays an important and major
role in the production of oxygen that will
be needed by the animals and humans.
Oxygen sustain life of living things.
3. SOURCES OF FOOD
• Plants provide food for the people and animals.
• Consumable plants are grouped into: fruits, vegetables, root crops, cereals, and
seeds.
Fruit Vegetable Root crop Cereal Seed
atis broccoli cassava corn bean
banana cabbage gabi oats munggo
guava malunggay kamote rice patani
kalamansi pechay ube wheat
mango saluyot
4. ANIMAL SHELTERS
• Plants provide homes to many animals.
• Trees are one of the excellent habitats of animals because of their strong trunks that
can support the weight of a number of animals that sit and move around the tree
branches.
• Leaves of plants protect them from strong rains and winds.
5. Monkeys, tarsiers, pandas,
raccoons, and squirrels
live in trees
Birds use tree branches
for nesting and perching,
woodpeckers builds nest
in tree trunks
Honeybees build
honeycombs on the
branches of trees
6. SOURCES OF MATERIALS
• Trunks turned into lumbers (wood that
is produced from cut trees).
• Lumbers is used for constructing houses
and other structures, and also used in
making furniture and paper products
Building Materials
7. SOURCES OF MATERIALS
• Plant fibers are fine threadlike materials
that come from the stems, leaves, seeds
or fruits of some plants is used in
making clothes (some of what we wear)
• Ex: leaves of pineapple plant used to
make barong Tagalog
Clothing Materials
8. SOURCES OF MATERIALS
• Medicinal plants like ginger, guava, lagundi,
and oregano plants used to treat certain
problems or conditions.
• Root of ginger – use to soothe sore throats
and relieve heavy coughing
• guava leaves– used to remedy diarrhea,
nosebleed, and toothache

Related Products
9. Lagundi leaves – used to treat cough and
relieve pain from wounds
Oregano leaves – remedy throats sore from
coughing
10. Plants used to produce
essential oils used in making
different fragrances for
perfumes.
Ex: ilang-ilang, rose, and
sampaguita plants
11. SOURCES OF FUEL
• Plant buried for thousand years are
converted into coal (fuel used in
generators to produce electricity)
• Twigs and trunks are cut into smaller
pieces are used for cooking food.
• Small logs used in stone ovens for
baking bread
• Smaller piece of wood made into
charcoal used for roasting fish and
meat.
12. POLLUTION, FLOOD, AND EROSION
CONTROL
• Plants contribute toward keeping the
environment clean and in reducing air
pollution because they filter dust and
other air pollutants,
• Roots of the plants absorb water from
the soil, thus, helping to prevent soil
erosion ad floods.
