  3. 3. We have studied in Class I & Class II about: • Parts of Plants, • Types of Plants • Uses of Plants & • Taking Care of Plants We will refresh in short about them in next few slides. Detailed Study Material is available at: Class I: http://theeducationdesk.com/t/environmental-science-evs-plants-and-trees/33 Or http://www.slideshare.net/theeducationdesk/environmental-science-evs-plants-and-trees-class-i Class II: http://theeducationdesk.com/t/environmental-science-evs-plants/12 Or http://www.slideshare.net/theeducationdesk/environmental-science-evs-plants-class-ii Recap
  4. 4. Plant Parts of Plant Leaves, flowers, buds, fruits, stem and roots are main parts of a plant. Flower Stem Roots Bud Leaves Fruit
  5. 5. Types of plants Climber plants have weak and soft stem. They need support to stand and grow straight. Money plant Pea plant Bean plant Pumpkin Watermelon Muskmelon Creeper plants have soft green stem. They grow along the ground. Herbs are very small plants with soft green color stem. Their leaves, flowers, seeds are used for flavoring, food, cooking, medicines or perfumes. Coriander Spinach Mint
  6. 6. Shrubs have many branches and they grow near to the ground. Their stem is woody and thin and doesn’t have main trunk. Wild plants grow naturally for many years. They do not need any person to take care of them. Wild plants can be grass, trees and small plants. Water plants grow in water and their stem stays underwater. Some water plants have big floating leaves. Plants like Hydrilla grow completely underwater. Cotton plant Rose plant Mums plant Lotus Duckweed Hydrilla Types of plants Banyan tree Grass Periwinkle plant

Uses of plants Potato - Stem Radish - Roots Apple - FruitsSpinach - Leaves Chopsticks Wooden Pencils Wooden Door Paper Food Wood Medicine Tulsi Juice of Tulsi leaves is used for cough and cold Turmeric Turmeric is used in cooking & also as anti inflammatory Amla Amla juice is good for stomach Aloe Vera Juice of aloe vera plant is good for skin.
  8. 8. Uses of plants Plants make the air clean and fresh. They give shadows. Plants also help to make the soil more nutrient. Sweet smelling flowers like rose and jasmine are used to make Perfumes. Fiber: Cotton, Jute, Coconut coir
  9. 9. Different Climates and Plants • Desert • Plains • Grasslands • Mountains • Rainforests • Temperate Deciduous Forests • Taiga • Tundra We Will Learn
  10. 10. Grasslands are also the plains. They are found in places with heavy rainfall or sunlight. Grass plants have soft stems and narrow leaves which reduces the water loss. Grasslands are useful for agriculture. Grass - Narrow leaves Grass - Soft stems
  11. 11. Mountains
  12. 12. Mountains are large landforms stretched very high from land. Mountains are steeper than hills. In the mountains with heavy snow fall trees like Pine, Willow grow well. Their leaves have needle shape to shed down the snow easily. Willow Tree Pine Tree Pine Tree Leaves
  13. 13. Rainforest
  14. 14. Tropical rainforests grow in hot and heavy rain places. Temperate rainforests grow in the places with mild winter and cool summers. Rainforests are generally very thick and sunlight can't reach the lands. Tropical Rainforest Temperate Rainforest
  15. 15. Temperate Deciduous Forest
  16. 16. Temperate deciduous forests or temperate broad-leaf forests are found in areas with warm, moist summers and mild winters. Trees have broad leaves to capture sunlight. In autumn the trees sheds their leaves to reduce the water loss. Forest during Spring Forest during Autumn
  17. 17. Taiga
  18. 18. Taiga is also known as snow Forest. Trees grow in extreme winter and heavy snow fall. They are also known as conifers. Trees grow in cone shape and it helps them to shed the snow easily. Leaves remains green while snowfall is occurring. Larch Taiga or Snow forest Spruce
  19. 19. Tundra
  20. 20. Tundra is a extreme cold place. It has very short summers and long harsh winters. Tundra plants are very small and dark in color. Three type of Tundra are: • Arctic Tundra is located at northern hemisphere. •Alpine Tundra occurs in mountains worldwide at high altitude. •Antarctic Tundra is located at Southern hemisphere Tundra Plants - Small Tundra Moss
  21. 21. Orchards and Groves Fruits And Vegetables Transported To India We Will Learn
  22. 22. Orchards & Groves Orchards are the group of trees or planned large gardens. They always grow in warm places. Orchards are generally the fruit gardens, like Apple orchards. Groves are also known as group of trees or small orchards. For example: Mango grove.
  23. 23. Fruits And Vegetables Transported To India Red and Green Grapes StrawberryKiwi Apple Some fruits and vegetables are transported to India from other countries by air and ship. Also, due to improved farming technology new types of fruits and vegetables can now be grown in some parts of India. Fruits like kiwi, Apple, Strawberries, red and green seedless grapes are brought to India from different countries.
  24. 24. Red grapes PlumRaspberry Pear Fruits are imported to India from New Zealand, Australia, Turkey, Malaysia, Thailand etc. Fruits And Vegetables Transported To India
  25. 25. Fruits And Vegetables Transported To India Magic mushroom BroccoliRed and yellow pepper Vegetables like broccoli, asparagus, red and yellow capsicum or pepper and magic mushrooms are imported to India from different countries. Asparagus
