The document provides details on the pre-production for a game, including the target audience, art style, and contingency planning. The target audience is older teens to young adults, and the game will feature combat and a mature art style. Character designs will be 16-bit to allow for animations while maintaining a retro style. Sound effects and dialogue will be created using software like BeepBox. Contingency plans are outlined to address potential issues like not having enough time or work getting corrupted. Health and safety concerns are also considered.
2. Audience Profile
• Target audience is older teens to young adults. To adhere to this
demographic, my game will feature combat throughout it as well as an
artstyle and colour scheme that doesn’t feel immature. Although the main
gender that the game will appeal to is male, it doesn’t particularly distain
from females. To appeal to both genders, playable characters of either
gender are available. Furthermore, the colour scheme of the game is
gender neutral, meaning nobody will feel that the game isnt’ meant for
them due to it.
• Games such as Hollow Knight appeal to their target audience using
memorable and appealing designs, so I will ensure to incorporate this into
my own work.
3. Style sheet
16-bit esque character designs allow for
simple designs that still allow for plenty of
different movements. This prevents any
limitations in terms of animations and
expressions from occuring whilst still
maintaining the retro art style.
By using different colour schemes for
different characters, I create solid
differences between their looks to make
them stand out against eachother, resulting
in more memorable designs.
Level setting focuses on creating a
darker more Hollow Knight esque
ambience. Darker backgrounds give the
level depth whilst maintaining this feel.
Greens, yellows and blues of different
tones give the level a more appealing
look whilst not taking away from the
gothic feel.

7. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
Not enough time to create all the animations I
want
Focus on more necessary animations first. Use
time outside of lessons to create more and add
extra detail and fluidity.
Work gets corrupted Create backup saves
Different drawings of characters don’t match Create character sheets to show character
from different angles in different animations
Can’t make all the SFX required Use BeepBox to create backup SFX that I can
use
Internet turning off Have any necessary references saved to
computer.
Power cutting out Save work regularly
8. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
Staring at a screen for too long may damage
eyes
Look away from screen at regular intervals
Ear damage Don’t listen to audio too loudly
Spilling drink on equipment Keep drinks way from electronics
Back-pain issues Sit properly in chair. Get up and walk at
intervals.
Neck Pains Ensure top of screen is at eye-level
Blood clots in legs Stand up and walk around at regular intervals.
