FMP Development Diary
Harry Adkins-Pennington
Pre-proposal
This is my pre-proposal from the Initial
Plans section from my Final Major Project
• I used Microsoft Word to create the
table and write down everything before
copying everything onto PowerPoint
Online
This is my skills audit which explains what
I want to do for my FMP and what I might
do to achieve that
This is a table that shows what I
am confident at, okay with and
not very confident with
• Each main part is split into at
least 4 different tasks which
has a highlight in different
sections
• Most of the boxes are
highlighted in orange which
means I am okay with the task
but not very confident
Mood Board
This is my mood board for my FMP:
• Some of the images are from my original video
game project because my FMP is going to be a
completed version of the game
• The mood board contains different images like
the Five Nights at Freddy's 7 teaser image which
has hidden clues both in the image and in the
original images source code
Production Week 1:
This is my first draft of my character selection screen
for my video game project:
• I used a similar pixel art style to create the profile
pictures of each of the three characters
• I plan on creating the logo of each of the characters
for the bottom of the profiles
• I originally planned on having the background to be
the signature colours of each of the YouTubers but
after creating the background, it had made me and
some of the other students uncomfortable
• I chose to give the background a dark green so
everything can be seen clearly
• I removed the black outline from PewDiePie's white
hair to make it stand out more but it ended up
blending with the blue background too much and it is
harder to see the hair
Production Week 1:
This is my second draft of my character selection screen:
• I separated each of the YouTubersand made the
backgroundsthe signature colour of them
• I created the logos for each of the characters at the bottom
of each of the characters to further show the player who
each of them are without revealing too much about them
• I added a darker shade of the main colour of the characters
so then they can stand out more
• I added a black outline around PewDiePie's hair so then it
doesn't blend in too much into the background
• I plan on creating a "Choose Your Character" voice effect
using a voice recorder and premier to change how the voice
sounds instead of a title to make it more interesting
• I plan on changing "Pewds" name to Felix because unless my
audience knows who PewDiePie is, the name makes no
sense and it does not match with how Jack and Mark have
common, known names
Production Week 1:
These are my rough designs for Blood Sonic and the Blood
Emerald:
• Both Blood Sonic and the blood emerald are my own
original designs
• I chose this design for Blood Sonic and Blood Emerald
because they are intimidating
• I recreated Sonic from the classic games and made his
quills darker, made his pupils black and his irises bright red
• I made his skin more pale and sickly to make him look
more intimidating
• I added a dripping blood effect to the eyes and mouth of
Blood Sonic to make him further intimidating and scary for
the audience
• I plan on adding some extra dark red lines to the emerald
so it looks more detailed
Production Week 1:
This is a second draft of the blood emerald and Blood
Sonic:
• I added slightly more dark red to make the emerald
more detailed
• I also removed the white spots from Blood Sonic
because they were slightly distracting
• I chose to add more detail to the emerald because I
wanted to make the game look and feel more
professional without adding too much and causing
problems
Production Week 1:
These are my third drafts of Blood Sonic:
• I removed the lightest shade of blue as they were
distracting and from a distance, Blood Sonic looks more
intimidating without the light blue than with it
• I will change the colour of some parts of his skin
because when I look at the grey sections, it is incredibly
distracting and doesn't make him look sickly
• I plan on making the irises a more dark red so it looks
more like blood which could make him more scary
• I chose this design for Blood Sonic because it looks
intimidating by having his skin look sickly and having
blood dripping down it's face
Production Week 2:
These are first drafts of the standing and first step animation for my main character (Jacksepticeye):
• I used the Scott Pilgrim game as inspiration for how I designed Jack
• I re-created the basic outline for the character and coloured the character in an over the top
version of Jack by having all his hair green instead of trying to colour the top part of his hair the
same colour
• I also coloured the character in in the same colour scheme from the game so then I know where
each colour goes without getting colour spots in the background
• I added green pupils to further go with the emphasis on green
• I changed the skin colour to a highly light cream colour because Jack has been known to have an
extremely light skin colour
• I coloured the shirt light grey with dark grey stripes to match one of the outfits jack wears which
I plan on adding sleeves to the shirt to make it look similar to Jacks shirt
• Outlining the character was not easy as I had to take a screenshot from the game itself in order
to get a good view of the image without too much of the background getting in the way and
distracting me
• I plan on removing the weird bracelets around Jack's wrist because they do not look correct with
the rest of the outfit
• I will change his hair style slightly by removing some of the strands at the front and back of his
head so he looks even less like Scott Pilgrim
• I also did one last redesign for Blood Sonic, changing the grey areas of his skin to a more dark
cream colour so he still looks sickly and intimidating while looking more realistic compared to
the original design
Production Week 2:
These are some of my images for Jacksepticeyein when he is moving through levels in
the game:
• I copied the outlinefrom Scott Pilgrim then recolouredthe image and removed some
of his hair so it looks more like Jack
• When I was removing, the hair, how it looks changes on each step which shows that
when Jack is moving, the wind moves his hairaround, making the game more
realistic
• I changed the colourof the shirt from light and dark grey to a light blue as it is easier
to animateand colour
• I removed the bracelets from my previousversion of Jack and replaced them with
proper sleeves because the braceletslooked weird in my opinion
• I might remove Jacks pupilsbecause during later steps, they end up further up
towardshis head and I think that when animated,it will look strange to the audience
so I will remove the pupilsand keep the eyes as black
• I will remove the beard because when I get to the laterstages of the movement, it
becomes more difficult to draw the beard correctly and during steps four and five
(bottom two images), I can barely see Jacks mouth because of the beard which I do
not want for my audience
• I chose this originaldesign for the main character because it fits well with how
Jacksepticeyelooks in some of his videos, with his green hair and blue shirt
Production Week 2:
These are my first drafts of the first and second level in the
game
• The "JACK:" is to show that the bottom of the screen is also
a text box, I plan on having the colour of the text be
different based on who is speaking
• I plan on changing the "JACK" to the profile picture of each
of the characters that is speaking
• By the end of the level, I plan on having Blood Sonic's eyes
flash and a sudden flash to black which will be the
transition to the second level
• I plan on adding dying trees to the background as the level
will be part of the second level
Production Week 2:
These are my improved versions of Jacksepticeye
• I removed the beard because during later stages of
the movement, I wasn't able to draw the beard as
Jacks mouth moved towards where he is moving
• Unfortunately due to time restrictions and being
forgetful, I ended up forgetting to remove the sleeve
outline from the Scott Pilgrim game which doesn't
look very good and professional
Production Week 3:
These are my jump animation images for
Jacksepticeye
• I used images from the Scott Pilgrim game as my
canvas which helped me create each of the
animation images
• I recoloured each part of each image so they still
look similar to the standing and running images
• I plan on using the final jumping image, the
bottom image, as the image for when Jack is in
the air however, it makes Jack taller which might
cause him to go beyond the screen
• I also plan on changing the colour of the second
images neck from blue to skin cream because it
doesn't match the first image
Production Week 3:
This is a second draft of my RPG battle level at
the end of the game animation
• I created the fist and ki blast icon using images
on the internet
• I also created the selection border for both
icons so during the animation, it'll look like the
player is trying to choose which action to take
during the fight
• I plan on adding the Jacksepticeye profile
picture to the far left hand side as well as both
Jacksepticeye and Blood Sonic and each of
their animation images
Production Week 3:
This is my completed version of the title screen
• I made the background completely black because I
wanted to make it look like space, including adding
the stars and the moon in the top left hand corner
• The hardest part of this was creating the portals at
the top and bottom of the text because creating
oval shaped objects is harder when creating in pixel
art
• The "press start" fades out and back into the image
when no button is pressed but when start is
pressed, the text flashes a couple of times then the
whole screen fades to black to transition to the
character selection screen
• If I was given slightly more time to further improve
the product, I would create a selection sound effect
so it further looks and feels like a video game
Production Week 4:
This is my completed firstlevel of my video game project
• The level starts with Jacks profile picture appearing in the bottom left
hand corner of the screen with text saying "Where am I?"
• The animation continues with Jack running underneath the first
platform then jumping on top of it which will allow Jack to get to the
next platform with the dragon ball
• The whole screen moves further down so Jack is back at the left side
of screen before Jack starts moving again
• Jack then jumps down from the platform and runs towards the end of
the level, with the screen moving to the left so Jack is back on the left
side of the screen with Blood Sonic appearing in front of him
• I placed each movement step so then it looks like the main character is
moving
• I placed each movement step for both Jack and Blood Sonic and
decreased the size of them so they fit more easily into the game levels
• My biggest challenge when finishing off this level was the jump
animation because the way I had designed the final jump image has
Jack raising his arms at full length which causes his arms to go beyond
the screen
Production Week 4:
This is my completed second level of my video game project
• The level starts with Jack in a dark red area with dying
trees, Jack asking "what's going on?"
• Jack then starts running down the forest to confront
Blood Sonic who fades into the area, starting the RPG
fight
• I removed the timer from the game because the
animation is too short for the timer to have a good effect
on the player
• If given more time to improve on this, I would tween the
frames between when Jack gets to the right hand side of
the screen and gets back to the left hand side before
Blood Sonic reappears so then the transition looks more
fluid and smooth
• I wish I added some burning sound effects during this
level because there is no sound during the level which
doesn't work very well
Production Week 4:
This is my completed RPG fight in my video game project
• The fight starts with jack and Blood Sonic on either side of the screen with
Jacks profile picture and the fist and ki blast icon at the bottom of the screen
• The selection border appearsbetween the fist icon and ki blast icon to make
it look like the playeris trying to choose between either of the two
• After the playerselects the fist icon, Jack quickly lunge towardsBlood Sonic
which I had done by moving Jack 3cm per frame until he gets to Blood Sonic
then quicklymove back to his side of the screen
• After Jack takes his turn in the fight, Blood Sonic flashes a couple of times to
indicatehim taking damage but Blood Sonic flies straight into Jack, causing
the screen to go straight to black and cause the game over screen
• I made this level as a losing battle for Jack where he tries to attack Blood
Sonic but Blood Sonic attacks and killsJack, causing the game over and
finishing the animation
• I added the movement images of both characters and decreased the size of
each image so then they fit in the level
• When doing the movement of Jacks punch, I moved the image 3cm every
frame which took a whole day of lessons before I found out that I could
tween the animationframes which would make the movement easier, faster
and more accurate than doing the movement myself
Production Week 4:
This is my final version of the character selection screen
• The selection border appears before the player, showing them
that they can choose between the three selectable characters
• After the player selects a character, for the animation they choose
Jacksepticeye, the selection border flashes faster to show that a
character has been selected before the scene fades to black
• I created the logos of each of the YouTubers to show the players
who each of the characters are since I had to shorten the names
so that they fit more easily underneath the pictures of each of the
characters
• If I had more time to improve the product, I would either add a
title or a "choose your character" voice effect so it looks more like
a character selection screen
• I would change "PEWDS" to Felix because despite all the
characters have shorten versions of their YouTube names for
example, Jack is short for Jacksepticeye and Mark is short for
Markiplier, however despite Pewds is short for PewDiePie, it does
not work very well but if I changed it to Felix, it might have
worked better than before

  • 1. FMP Development Diary Harry Adkins-Pennington
  • 2. Pre-proposal This is my pre-proposal from the Initial Plans section from my Final Major Project • I used Microsoft Word to create the table and write down everything before copying everything onto PowerPoint Online This is my skills audit which explains what I want to do for my FMP and what I might do to achieve that
  • 3. This is a table that shows what I am confident at, okay with and not very confident with • Each main part is split into at least 4 different tasks which has a highlight in different sections • Most of the boxes are highlighted in orange which means I am okay with the task but not very confident
  • 4. Mood Board This is my mood board for my FMP: • Some of the images are from my original video game project because my FMP is going to be a completed version of the game • The mood board contains different images like the Five Nights at Freddy's 7 teaser image which has hidden clues both in the image and in the original images source code
  • 5. Production Week 1: This is my first draft of my character selection screen for my video game project: • I used a similar pixel art style to create the profile pictures of each of the three characters • I plan on creating the logo of each of the characters for the bottom of the profiles • I originally planned on having the background to be the signature colours of each of the YouTubers but after creating the background, it had made me and some of the other students uncomfortable • I chose to give the background a dark green so everything can be seen clearly • I removed the black outline from PewDiePie's white hair to make it stand out more but it ended up blending with the blue background too much and it is harder to see the hair

Production Week 1: This is my second draft of my character selection screen: • I separated each of the YouTubersand made the backgroundsthe signature colour of them • I created the logos for each of the characters at the bottom of each of the characters to further show the player who each of them are without revealing too much about them • I added a darker shade of the main colour of the characters so then they can stand out more • I added a black outline around PewDiePie's hair so then it doesn't blend in too much into the background • I plan on creating a "Choose Your Character" voice effect using a voice recorder and premier to change how the voice sounds instead of a title to make it more interesting • I plan on changing "Pewds" name to Felix because unless my audience knows who PewDiePie is, the name makes no sense and it does not match with how Jack and Mark have common, known names

Production Week 1: These are my rough designs for Blood Sonic and the Blood Emerald: • Both Blood Sonic and the blood emerald are my own original designs • I chose this design for Blood Sonic and Blood Emerald because they are intimidating • I recreated Sonic from the classic games and made his quills darker, made his pupils black and his irises bright red • I made his skin more pale and sickly to make him look more intimidating • I added a dripping blood effect to the eyes and mouth of Blood Sonic to make him further intimidating and scary for the audience • I plan on adding some extra dark red lines to the emerald so it looks more detailed

Production Week 1: This is a second draft of the blood emerald and Blood Sonic: • I added slightly more dark red to make the emerald more detailed • I also removed the white spots from Blood Sonic because they were slightly distracting • I chose to add more detail to the emerald because I wanted to make the game look and feel more professional without adding too much and causing problems

Production Week 1: These are my third drafts of Blood Sonic: • I removed the lightest shade of blue as they were distracting and from a distance, Blood Sonic looks more intimidating without the light blue than with it • I will change the colour of some parts of his skin because when I look at the grey sections, it is incredibly distracting and doesn't make him look sickly • I plan on making the irises a more dark red so it looks more like blood which could make him more scary • I chose this design for Blood Sonic because it looks intimidating by having his skin look sickly and having blood dripping down it's face

Production Week 2: These are first drafts of the standing and first step animation for my main character (Jacksepticeye): • I used the Scott Pilgrim game as inspiration for how I designed Jack • I re-created the basic outline for the character and coloured the character in an over the top version of Jack by having all his hair green instead of trying to colour the top part of his hair the same colour • I also coloured the character in in the same colour scheme from the game so then I know where each colour goes without getting colour spots in the background • I added green pupils to further go with the emphasis on green • I changed the skin colour to a highly light cream colour because Jack has been known to have an extremely light skin colour • I coloured the shirt light grey with dark grey stripes to match one of the outfits jack wears which I plan on adding sleeves to the shirt to make it look similar to Jacks shirt • Outlining the character was not easy as I had to take a screenshot from the game itself in order to get a good view of the image without too much of the background getting in the way and distracting me • I plan on removing the weird bracelets around Jack's wrist because they do not look correct with the rest of the outfit • I will change his hair style slightly by removing some of the strands at the front and back of his head so he looks even less like Scott Pilgrim • I also did one last redesign for Blood Sonic, changing the grey areas of his skin to a more dark cream colour so he still looks sickly and intimidating while looking more realistic compared to the original design

Production Week 2: These are some of my images for Jacksepticeyein when he is moving through levels in the game: • I copied the outlinefrom Scott Pilgrim then recolouredthe image and removed some of his hair so it looks more like Jack • When I was removing, the hair, how it looks changes on each step which shows that when Jack is moving, the wind moves his hairaround, making the game more realistic • I changed the colourof the shirt from light and dark grey to a light blue as it is easier to animateand colour • I removed the bracelets from my previousversion of Jack and replaced them with proper sleeves because the braceletslooked weird in my opinion • I might remove Jacks pupilsbecause during later steps, they end up further up towardshis head and I think that when animated,it will look strange to the audience so I will remove the pupilsand keep the eyes as black • I will remove the beard because when I get to the laterstages of the movement, it becomes more difficult to draw the beard correctly and during steps four and five (bottom two images), I can barely see Jacks mouth because of the beard which I do not want for my audience • I chose this originaldesign for the main character because it fits well with how Jacksepticeyelooks in some of his videos, with his green hair and blue shirt
  • 12. Production Week 2: These are my first drafts of the first and second level in the game • The "JACK:" is to show that the bottom of the screen is also a text box, I plan on having the colour of the text be different based on who is speaking • I plan on changing the "JACK" to the profile picture of each of the characters that is speaking • By the end of the level, I plan on having Blood Sonic's eyes flash and a sudden flash to black which will be the transition to the second level • I plan on adding dying trees to the background as the level will be part of the second level
  • 13. Production Week 2: These are my improved versions of Jacksepticeye • I removed the beard because during later stages of the movement, I wasn't able to draw the beard as Jacks mouth moved towards where he is moving • Unfortunately due to time restrictions and being forgetful, I ended up forgetting to remove the sleeve outline from the Scott Pilgrim game which doesn't look very good and professional

Production Week 3: These are my jump animation images for Jacksepticeye • I used images from the Scott Pilgrim game as my canvas which helped me create each of the animation images • I recoloured each part of each image so they still look similar to the standing and running images • I plan on using the final jumping image, the bottom image, as the image for when Jack is in the air however, it makes Jack taller which might cause him to go beyond the screen • I also plan on changing the colour of the second images neck from blue to skin cream because it doesn't match the first image

Production Week 3: This is a second draft of my RPG battle level at the end of the game animation • I created the fist and ki blast icon using images on the internet • I also created the selection border for both icons so during the animation, it'll look like the player is trying to choose which action to take during the fight • I plan on adding the Jacksepticeye profile picture to the far left hand side as well as both Jacksepticeye and Blood Sonic and each of their animation images

Production Week 3: This is my completed version of the title screen • I made the background completely black because I wanted to make it look like space, including adding the stars and the moon in the top left hand corner • The hardest part of this was creating the portals at the top and bottom of the text because creating oval shaped objects is harder when creating in pixel art • The "press start" fades out and back into the image when no button is pressed but when start is pressed, the text flashes a couple of times then the whole screen fades to black to transition to the character selection screen • If I was given slightly more time to further improve the product, I would create a selection sound effect so it further looks and feels like a video game
  • 17. Production Week 4: This is my completed firstlevel of my video game project • The level starts with Jacks profile picture appearing in the bottom left hand corner of the screen with text saying "Where am I?" • The animation continues with Jack running underneath the first platform then jumping on top of it which will allow Jack to get to the next platform with the dragon ball • The whole screen moves further down so Jack is back at the left side of screen before Jack starts moving again • Jack then jumps down from the platform and runs towards the end of the level, with the screen moving to the left so Jack is back on the left side of the screen with Blood Sonic appearing in front of him • I placed each movement step so then it looks like the main character is moving • I placed each movement step for both Jack and Blood Sonic and decreased the size of them so they fit more easily into the game levels • My biggest challenge when finishing off this level was the jump animation because the way I had designed the final jump image has Jack raising his arms at full length which causes his arms to go beyond the screen
  • 18. Production Week 4: This is my completed second level of my video game project • The level starts with Jack in a dark red area with dying trees, Jack asking "what's going on?" • Jack then starts running down the forest to confront Blood Sonic who fades into the area, starting the RPG fight • I removed the timer from the game because the animation is too short for the timer to have a good effect on the player • If given more time to improve on this, I would tween the frames between when Jack gets to the right hand side of the screen and gets back to the left hand side before Blood Sonic reappears so then the transition looks more fluid and smooth • I wish I added some burning sound effects during this level because there is no sound during the level which doesn't work very well

Production Week 4: This is my completed RPG fight in my video game project • The fight starts with jack and Blood Sonic on either side of the screen with Jacks profile picture and the fist and ki blast icon at the bottom of the screen • The selection border appearsbetween the fist icon and ki blast icon to make it look like the playeris trying to choose between either of the two • After the playerselects the fist icon, Jack quickly lunge towardsBlood Sonic which I had done by moving Jack 3cm per frame until he gets to Blood Sonic then quicklymove back to his side of the screen • After Jack takes his turn in the fight, Blood Sonic flashes a couple of times to indicatehim taking damage but Blood Sonic flies straight into Jack, causing the screen to go straight to black and cause the game over screen • I made this level as a losing battle for Jack where he tries to attack Blood Sonic but Blood Sonic attacks and killsJack, causing the game over and finishing the animation • I added the movement images of both characters and decreased the size of each image so then they fit in the level • When doing the movement of Jacks punch, I moved the image 3cm every frame which took a whole day of lessons before I found out that I could tween the animationframes which would make the movement easier, faster and more accurate than doing the movement myself

Production Week 4: This is my final version of the character selection screen • The selection border appears before the player, showing them that they can choose between the three selectable characters • After the player selects a character, for the animation they choose Jacksepticeye, the selection border flashes faster to show that a character has been selected before the scene fades to black • I created the logos of each of the YouTubers to show the players who each of the characters are since I had to shorten the names so that they fit more easily underneath the pictures of each of the characters • If I had more time to improve the product, I would either add a title or a "choose your character" voice effect so it looks more like a character selection screen • I would change "PEWDS" to Felix because despite all the characters have shorten versions of their YouTube names for example, Jack is short for Jacksepticeye and Mark is short for Markiplier, however despite Pewds is short for PewDiePie, it does not work very well but if I changed it to Felix, it might have worked better than before
