2. Research
To improve my research, I would spend time
looking at magazines that were released at the time
of the cars’ production. This would have allowed
me to compare the differences between a magazine
released in the actual time and a modern magazine
looking back at said time. This would tell me what
methods have been added, taken out or how
already present ones evolved. Furthermore, I would
be able to see if there had been any change in
target audience. By doing this, I could have used
features present in the older magazines and added
them to mine in order to appeal to an older
demographic , or vise-versa.
By researching various magazines of differing genres, I was able to see what similarities
and differences there were between them. This in turn allowed me to see if any features
were common amongst the varying genres (e.g. use of the colour red). When I was
certain of what genre I was going to create a magazine on, I conducted further research
into many different covers and interiors of car magazines. This told me what could be
used to entice my target audience of 35-60 year old males.
3. Planning
I created detailed mind-maps of what I could possibly do for my magazine. My first
contained information for three different genres- music, 2D Art and Classic Cars.
After deciding to make the theme classic cars, I made a separate mind-map
dedicated to that topic alone. This allowed me to add more in-depth detail for the
magazine. As well as to see what influences I could take from other genres to put
into my magazine, and what to leave out. Furthermore, I planned out what days I
would be working on certain parts of the project. This prevented any of my work
from overlapping and gave me a deadline for every piece I worked on, which in turn
made it sure that I would finish work in plenty of time.
To improve my planning I would continue to add more and more information to the
second mind-map. By doing this, I would lessen the chance of getting stuck at some
point in the production as well as vary my options as to what features I could add,
therefore lessening repetitiveness.
5. Time Management
• I didn't find time to be as issue at all, as I planned out what days I would
be doing certain work and made sure to finish what I had intended to
finish. This prevented me from overlapping what I was working on e.g.
prevented me from working on proposal and research at the same time. I
don’t think I would have benefitted from additional time as adding
anything else to my work would have made it too cluttered and I found
what I had already put down to be sufficient.

11. Aesthetic Qualities Overview
I believe my project was overall successful aesthetically. The colour scheme remains
consistent throughout the magazine. Furthermore, by using yellow and red in the
colour scheme, I prevent gender bias towards the target audience. As previously
mentioned in my research, red is a colour frequently used in magazines of various
genres, meaning that it is a colour that is enticing to many different people.
By ensuring the background of my cover is mainly dark, the text is never disrupted by
the background colours. However, due to a small point of the background showing
vivid light from the setting sun, text in that area of the page was repeatedly moved in
order to not be drowned out by the bright light. This resulted in the title being forced
to change layout as well as it being slightly cluttered amongst some other text.
The images, which I mostly took myself, were varied in size in order to give different
importance to different images. On the cover, multiple different models of cars are
used to make the page and widely interesting as possible in order to entice people
with different tastes. On the other hand, the internal pages only use images of the
same car on the single or double-page spread. This maintains the colour scheme in
the images of that page whilst maintaining focus on that certain model. Furthemore,
in order to keep the strength of the colour in the images constant, I altered their
saturations via Photoshop.
