Working Title: Classics Collectors
Audience:
My audience is mainly middle-aged men with an NRS Social Grade of A, B or C1. The
Psychographic group targeted would be people who frequently purchase car related products
e.g. models of classic cars. My project appeals to thus type of personas the magazine
advertises popular classic cars straight away on the front cover. Furthermore, the magazine
provides informative text regarding the cars it discusses, meaning people interested in buying
these cars will find the magazine useful and interesting. A balance of imagery and text leads
to my magazine appealing to the middle-age demographic as informative text and appealing
imagery are both provided in an equal ratio. My colour scheme of red and yellow is gender
neutral, meaning men won’t be pushed away from buying the magazine and, although they
aren’t the target audience, women won’t be deterred by the colours either.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Throughout my course so far I have learned many different techniques in Photoshop that may
help me with designing my magazine. For instance, by teaching myself the mask tool I am
now able to easily fade different images into one another, which could help with creating a
fluid background fading from colour to white on the cover. Additionally, I have learned how to
utilise colours that complement each other e.g. red and yellow. This will allow me to create a
consistent colour scheme that entices the target audience. My advergame was set in an
office and utilised a moving background. This background contained additional images of
shelves, bookcases etc. in order to flesh it out. This technique will be helpful in creating the
background for my magazine pages, as I have learned how to fill up vacant spaces whilst not
taking away from the foreground images and text.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
My magazine’s theme will be classic cars targeted mainly towards middle-aged men. The
cover will feature an action shot of a car(s) driving on a road. This will give the cover a more
eye-gripping feel. The title will be simple and not cover any of the important images. This will
simultaneously make the name of the magazine eye-catching without taking away too much
from the images. I will use limited text, with what is there being used to display the names of
some cars as well as what to expect in the issue. Some text will be blue to signify the fact that
it is a special feature e.g. an interview with someone. Furthermore, red will be used frequently
throughout the magazine to highlight important details.
To gather this information, I not only researched car magazines, but magazines in general.
This allowed me to see what would interest my target audience, but also what themes were
common amongst many genres. For example, I found that red was used frequently
regardless of theme, suggesting that it is an eye-catching colour to all people. I also
researched additional pages in car magazines to see what other features I could add to my
own magazine. By doing this, I found pages such as advertisements for events and of
course, the contents page. By adding these to my magazine, I can flesh it out whilst further
experimenting with my colour scheme.
Evaluation
I will make sure to evaluate my project as I am doing it. This will allow me to gather images of the

see how I changed my pieces and why.
