Project Phases:
■ The Batumi Project is divided into four phases, each of which is implemented by the Municipality of Batumi:
 Phase I consisted of rehabilitation measures for the water and sewer supply facilities in parts of the old
town of Batumi. Phase I had an investment cost of 18.5 million EUR and was implemented from 2007
until 2012.
 Phase II extends the rehabilitation measures of phase I to more parts of the city and also to nearby
coastal villages south of Batumi. This phase also builds a new waste water treatment plant for Batumi.
At a cost of 47 million EUR, phase II has been implemented between 2009 and 2013.
 .
 Phase IV concerns the rehabilitation and extension of the water supply network and the rehabilitation of
the sewer system in Batumi (new city boundaries). The Project covers the continuation of Project
Phases I-III that aim at a continuous and demand-oriented supply of the population with hygienically
sound water as well as an ecological and hygienically sound disposal and treatment of the wastewater
of Batumi. The estimated total investment cost of the Project Phase IV amount to approximately EUR
30 m.

Phase III of the Batumi municipal water project focuses on rehabilitating the rest of Batumi’s
water and sewer facilities. It continues to expand into surrounding rural coastal areas. At a
projected cost of 43.5 million EUR, phase III began in 2012 and expected to be finished in 2018.
Project Background & Scope
■ Project background - previous sewage disposal principle
comprised of individual & high rise residential buildings
being discharged to existing rainwater channels taking the
sewage directly into the Sea.
■ Project scope – environmental protection, prevention of
further Black Sea coast pollution, separation of sewage from
storm water collectors, abortion and prevention of further
sewage influx into Black Sea, improvement of quality of
coastal, bathing waters through rehabilitation and
construction of new sewerage systems within dense city
areas as well as surrounding coastal villages.
■ Lot 4-1 / Wastewater component:
 In total ~41km of sewerage pipelines, 690nr inspection
manholes, 2,190nr of house connection manholes.
 Gravity collectors L=32,8km (PP SN10, DN200-400mm, GRP
PN10 DN500, 800, 1000mm), with 661nr manholes, 2,184nr
house connection manholes.
 5.4km of pressure main (Steel PE/cem.mortar, DN1000mm)
with associated valves & washouts, combined type air valves
 One WW Shaft Pumping Station “Back Pull-Out” type (Q3=
2x57.3l/s @ 6,4m).

Objectives & Benefits
■ ObjectivesThe Batumi MunicipalWater Project aims to:
 Ensure a continuous supply of safe drinking water for the population of Batumi
 Reduce water losses and ensure efficient use of resources
 Guarantee a controlled and improved wastewater collection treatment system
 Provide regular testing and analysis of public drinking water so it is up to EU standards
 Cover operation and maintenance costs for BatumiTskali Utility by service fees
 Protect the water ecosystems of the Black Sea and Chakvi RiverWatershed
 Benefits:
 Prevents costly and pointless water loss
 Constructs a new low energyWWTP that has a solar drying system
 Achieves EU water quality standards

– 2,3bars.
 Collector B as trunk main is the most
important component of System B & System
C and hence its backbone as it conveys
collecting major lateral collectors and will
carry all the sewage from these areas to the
existing PS B and from there – to the WWTP
Adlia.

DN1000mm sewer trunk main with invert
levels from 1,8m to 4,5m;
 Construction of 47 concrete manholes
with depths between 1,8 – 4,5m;
In-lining of existing collector:
 Rehabilitation of ~1,1km of existing
DN1000, 1200mm sewer trunk main by
trenchless technology with depths
varying between 4,0 & 8,0m
 Construction of 20nr manholes with
depths btw.4,0 & 8,0m
 Due to deteriorated status of existing
collector, in-lining was abandoned, new
DN1200 collector to be installed under
future project!

Project Phases: ■ The Batumi Project is divided into four phases, each of which is implemented by the Municipality of Batumi:  Phase I consisted of rehabilitation measures for the water and sewer supply facilities in parts of the old town of Batumi. Phase I had an investment cost of 18.5 million EUR and was implemented from 2007 until 2012.  Phase II extends the rehabilitation measures of phase I to more parts of the city and also to nearby coastal villages south of Batumi. This phase also builds a new waste water treatment plant for Batumi. At a cost of 47 million EUR, phase II has been implemented between 2009 and 2013.  .  Phase IV concerns the rehabilitation and extension of the water supply network and the rehabilitation of the sewer system in Batumi (new city boundaries). The Project covers the continuation of Project Phases I-III that aim at a continuous and demand-oriented supply of the population with hygienically sound water as well as an ecological and hygienically sound disposal and treatment of the wastewater of Batumi. The estimated total investment cost of the Project Phase IV amount to approximately EUR 30 m. It continues to expand into surrounding rural coastal areas. At a projected cost of 43.5 million EUR, phase III began in 2012 and expected to be finished in 2018.

Project Background & Scope ■ Project background - previous sewage disposal principle comprised of individual & high rise residential buildings being discharged to existing rainwater channels taking the sewage directly into the Sea. ■ Project scope – environmental protection, prevention of further Black Sea coast pollution, separation of sewage from storm water collectors, abortion and prevention of further sewage influx into Black Sea, improvement of quality of coastal, bathing waters through rehabilitation and construction of new sewerage systems within dense city areas as well as surrounding coastal villages. ■ Lot 4-1 / Wastewater component:  In total ~41km of sewerage pipelines, 690nr inspection manholes, 2,190nr of house connection manholes.  Gravity collectors L=32,8km (PP SN10, DN200-400mm, GRP PN10 DN500, 800, 1000mm), with 661nr manholes, 2,184nr house connection manholes.  5.4km of pressure main (Steel PE/cem.mortar, DN1000mm) with associated valves & washouts, combined type air valves  One WW Shaft Pumping Station “Back Pull-Out” type (Q3= 2x57.3l/s @ 6,4m). Lot 4-1  Remaining System A (RSA) – dense city area sewerage system remaining for construction from Phase II of the Project;  Swamp & South Swamp Area Sewage Network (SSA) – located at the South-East part of the city center with a high population density, sewage previously discharged to existing rainwater channels taking the sewage directly into the Sea;  Sewage Pumping Main B connecting main WW PS B with WWTP Adlia; max. pressure 1,7 – 2,3bars.  Collector B as trunk main is the most important component of System B & System C and hence its backbone as it conveys collecting major lateral collectors and will carry all the sewage from these areas to the existing PS B and from there – to the WWTP Adlia.
