• Bauer Media is a publishing company that was set up in
Hamburg, Germany is 1875. Managed by 5 generations by the
Bauer family, the company now operates in 19 countries, such
as the UK, Germany, Australia and the USA, employing over
11,000 people. The company manages over 600 magazines,
50 radio and TV stations and 400 other digital projects. It has
become the UKs 3rd biggest publishing company, and it has
over 25 million consumers in the UK. Some of their most well
know magazines include Kerrang ,Grazia ,Closer and Heat
magazine.
3. Kerrang Magazine
• Kerrang magazine is a weekly rock
magazine that was first published
in 1981. It was brought by Bauer
Media in 2008 after being owned
by EMPA. Focused on the rock
genre, Kerrang aims to keep its
audience up to date will all the
news in the rock/punk/metal
scene. Their audience is mostly
teens with an interested in music
and to appeal to this audience
they use informal language, as
well as swear language, as this is
what they audience will relate to
the most.
4. Heat Magazine
• Heat magazine is a weekly woman’s
magazine was first published in 2009.
Since 2004, it has been one of the
biggest selling woman’s magazine in
the UK, with its headquarters in the
UK. Heats Magazines target audience
is mid 20s to middle aged woman,
who are interested in celebrities
gossip and style tips. This magazine
also uses informal language to
connect to their audience better. This
magazine also uses “feminine”
colours, such as purple and red to
appeal to their target audience.
6. Future PLC
• Future PLC is a English publishing company, founded in 1985
in Somerset. Future has a portfolio of over 200 projects,
including several types of magazines, for example music
magazines, gaming magazines and film magazines. They
employ around 500 people across the 3 countries they are
active in, The UK, The USA and Australia.
7. Total Film
• Total Film is a monthly
magazine published by
Future PLC for film fans. It
was first published in 1997
and is an English magazine.
The films target audience is
film fans, who are interested
in the popular upcoming
blockbusters. The colours
are appropriate for the cover
image, in this case star wars,
hence the grey and yellow.
The language would be
informal, but use a lot of key
terms.
8. Guitarist
• Guitarist Magazine is a monthly
magazine published by future
PLC. First published in 1984 the
magazine is targeted towards
guitar players as well as fans. It
includes guitar lessons for fans
learning how to play, as well as
interviews with guitar heroes. The
magazine is aimed at 20 – 40 year
olds, who are the most likely to
play the guitar. The language used
is technical, however would be
informal to connect with readers.
