1. QUESTION 6: WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT
TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF
CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?
ABBIE WAITE
2. Photoshop
When I first started media last year, I didn’t know how to use any of the programs
such as photoshop. But I learnt quite quickly and I was surprised how easy it was
to edit photos. Learning how to use the different tools was very interesting. It was
a good skill to have. My skills and confidence grew as I got into the coursework.
Photoshop has many different tools such as blur, quick selection, gradient,
horizontal text and custom shapes. My favourite tool was the quick selection as it
was so quick and easy to select and move around, you had to be patient with this
tool as you had to be really careful to select the whole outline, not missing any
parts.
3. Camera
I finally learnt how to use a high technology camera properly. Using a high tech
camera was great for taking pictures for my magazine as they have such a great
quality finish. It was fun using the camera in the studio as well as outside. I felt like
a professional photographer telling my models how to pose/act.
4. Lighting and Studio Experience
Having a studio set up in our school was very beneficial as we could have lots of
practice taking our photo's. We practiced using the studio lighting by doing genre
photoshoots. We adjusted the lights to suit the genre and use props to make our
models represent the genre. Also in the studio we used the tripod to balance the
camera on, to keep a steady hand, while taking the photo's. Then we positioned
the camera in different ways to work with the model, for example tilting the
camera up/down and zooming in/out.
5. Blogging
At the beginning of the course work, I thought blogging was hard, I didn’t know
how to create a post and use the heathen media website. I thougth blogging was
going to be boring writing lots of different paragraphs for each post. But I found
out you can use many different websites to make your work seem interesting and
be created in different ways. I used some great websites such as Prezi, slides,
emaze, pixton and pow toon. These websites were easy to use and present, I
would use them again to present any other work.
6. InDesign
I first started using InDesign when creating my double page spread. Like
photoshop, I had no idea how to use any of the tools. I learnt how to use InDesign
quicker than photoshop as it had less tools to use.
InDesign has tools such as smooth, scissors, gradient swatch and eyedropper. I
found it easy to be able to draw a text box and text wrap my text around my
image for my magazine. This took patience as you had to create a path using the
pen tool, to get your text to wrap around.
7. Internet
Without the internet I wouldn’t of found any inspiration of different magazines to
help me get started with creating my own magazine. I also watched tutorials to
help me use programs like photoshop and indesign, to watch how to use the
different tools and boost my confidence.
