Influencing someone is easier if we have a sound relationship with that person. Within the work
environment, we have to build those relationships with other people.
You need to create a clear two-way communication link.
This helps us to understand another person’s point of view.
In our personal life we have these strong relationships with family members, partners, friends and
some colleagues.
Signals that you have good relationships with people:
They seem to understand you and easily accept your way of thinking.
You share the same views, beliefs, values
They speak in a way that you find easy to understand
They are easy to listen to
They make eye contact when they are speaking to you
You feel comfortable in their presence
They frequently use your name when they speak to you
We have relationship that work very well. In these relationships we feel at ease and conversation flows
easily. Looking more closely to how you can consciously build relationships:
1. Building relationships is not always easy but it is an important element within our ability to influence
other people.
2. Certainly, it is more difficult to influence people where no relationship exists.
3. Excellent communicators build relationships partly by paying attention to the behavior of the person
they are communicating with and then “matching” that behavior.
